National Take a Walk in the Park Day
Enjoying the outdoors, surrounded by nature's beauty, strolling through serene green spaces, and basking in the tranquility of it all.
When cities are being designed one of the primary things they ensure to make space for is city parks. From small parks the size of just a couple of blocks to large ones that cover acres of land, city planners know the importance of providing green areas for people to go.
National Take a Walk in the Park Day celebrates these small excursions and the differences they can make to our mental, physical, and emotional health.
History of National Take a Walk in the Park Day
This day was founded to help people reconnect with the wilder spaces within our civilized world. Thousands of people all over the country walk in local parks, exploring the wildlife and beauty of the natural world around them.
During these walks many opt to bring cameras so they can take pictures of the beauty they find, others opt to bring a book and enjoy the peace of the natural space. Jogging, playing games, drawing pictures from nature, all of these are things people do when they go out and enjoy time in the park.
Getting out into nature has been proven to have a number of therapeutic effects on those who take the time to do it. Their stress levels go down, their heart and mind feel refreshed, their creativity gets inspired, and they become more productive at work. All of this doesn’t even include the physical health benefits they get from walking in the park.
Keeping our bodies in motion and remaining active are important parts of our long term health. Daily walks help keep joints healthy, our muscles limber, and our hearts beating steadily. Every day you walk walking gets to be just a little bit easier and you’ll find yourself less tired than the day before. National Take a Walk in the Park Day encourages you to get out and do that, every day of the year.
How To Celebrate National Take a Walk in the Park Day
Celebrating this holiday is as simple as doing what it says on the tin, go take a walk in the park! Everyday people take walks as an easy way to get exercise and reconnect with nature, and that’s been proven to have a positive effect on our sense of well-being.
Taking a walk can relieve stress, ease worries, and otherwise make every day just a little bit better. If you’re lucky enough to have multiple parks in your area, why not try a new one every day! While you’re at it, bring a friend!

'Path Wars': Time to park worries about these improvements
CROYDON COMMENTARY: Not everyone shares the concern for the future of a protected public park expressed on these pages last week, as Thornton Heath resident BEN GADSBY, pictured right, explains As a resident of Thornton Heath, I am a keen reader of Inside Croydon – one of the best ways of keeping up to date with everything that’s going on across, around and affecting our area. There was a pond in the park, and to this my friend led the way. It was frozen over, but a single hole was left for the convenience of a solitary swan. Holmes gazed at it and then passed on to the lodge gate.

Mosquito Control Elmwood Park - Dads Against Mosquitoes
Effective Strategies for Controlling Mosquitoes
Controlling mosquitoes effectively requires a combination of prevention, habitat management, and targeted interventions. Here are some of the best practices:
Tumblr media
1. Integrated Pest Management (IPM): An effective approach to mosquito control is through Integrated Pest Management (IPM), which combines various techniques to manage mosquito populations. This includes pest prevention, reduction, and the elimination of conditions that lead to infestations. IPM relies on monitoring mosquito populations and may involve the use of pesticides when necessary
2. Eliminate Standing Water: Mosquitoes breed in standing water, so one of the most crucial steps is to eliminate any sources of stagnant water around your home. This includes regularly emptying and scrubbing items that hold water, such as flowerpot saucers, bird baths, and pet bowls. Even small amounts of water can serve as breeding grounds, so thorough checks are essential.
3. Use Larvicides: In areas where standing water cannot be eliminated, applying larvicides can effectively target mosquito larvae before they mature into adults. This method is particularly useful in water bodies that cannot be drained.
4. Maintain Your Yard: Keeping your yard tidy can deter mosquitoes. This includes mowing the lawn regularly, trimming back overgrown vegetation, and removing debris where mosquitoes might hide. Sunlight can help dry out wet areas, making your yard less appealing to these pests.
5. Install Screens and Use Repellents: To prevent mosquitoes from entering your home, install fine mesh screens on windows and doors. Additionally, using insect repellents on your skin and applying outdoor insecticides can help keep mosquitoes at bay
6. Community Efforts: Mosquito control is often a community issue. Collaborating with neighbors to manage standing water and share effective control strategies can significantly reduce mosquito populations in your area.
By implementing these strategies, you can create a more comfortable environment and reduce the risk of mosquito-borne diseases.

𝙎𝙪𝙢𝙢𝙚𝙧 𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙮𝙘𝙖𝙮 -
The family and I had a lovely time in the sun (and rain) while staying in the caravan at (was has become) one of our annual summer activities.
There was a music festival on too - where my mum grinded up against a fake Robbie Williams - called Grange Fest so it was a whole afternoon and evening of various tribute acts and a DJ Set! Always fun to watch. Other activities wise we went to a kids disco, there was a nearby park to play in, Arcade and a little water area with sand to keep them busy.
On site at The Grange there is a range of on-park activities, including fishing and golf, as well as cafes, bars and even take-away restaurants.
The kids weren't fussed by the evening entertainment as by 8pm after a long day playing they were done in but loved being able to have the freedom to play safely in the sand and park. Featured here are some happy photos but it wouldn't be a typical staycay without kids having their tantrums!
