General Grant National Memorial in New York City, #NewYork, is the largest #mausoleum in North America and holds the remains of Union General and 18th President of the United States, Ulysses S. Grant, and his wife, Julia. Grant passed away July 23, 1885 from cancer at the age of 63 in Wilton, #NewYork. The mausoleum was designed by architect John Duncan and took twelve years to build. Its construction was spearheaded by the Grant Monument Association and the world donated over $600,000 toward its construction. It was dedicated on April 27, 1897, the 75th anniversary of Grant's birth. The dedication was attended by thousands of people, including diplomats from 26 countries. The dedication parade was led by President William McKinley. Julia Grant was laid to rest in the tomb after her death in 1902. The mausoleum became a unit of the the National Park Service in 1958. History was made! Congratulations to Chris Meacham, Chris Baccash, and Colin Kelly for representing the Doylestown Bike Works p/b Fred Beans Cycling Team in our first ever men’s elite race. All three place well at the CRCA Roka Grant’s Tomb Criterium p/b Rapha CAT 1/2/3 race in NYC. The CRCA is one of the oldest cycling clubs in America, and Grant’s Tomb is one of only two bike races to happen on the streets of NYC. Thank you to Clemons Richter Reiss, Doylestown Brewing Company, Advanced Sports Chiro, Dr. Rob Riesenberger Dentist 4 Kids, McBrick Building Group, AARCA, Doylestown Wealth Advisory Services, and Giant Bicycles for getting us to the starting line!
