Ronald Knox -- Personal HCs

˗ˏˋ ★ ˎˊ˗ Specific things I give to Ronnie-Boy in my canon ˗ˏˋ ★ ˎˊ˗

✧ In life, Ronald was the eldest son of six kids, and grew up rather poor. His mother, Tweedie, tried to earn extra funds by having Ron deliver meat pies and bread to the working class.

✧ Ronald committed suicide when he was 22, by jumping from the roof of a factory. He got into legal trouble from gambling, and decided that taking his life would be much, much better than: Getting murdered, going to jail, or disappointing his mother. It was rash- He didn't think it through at ALL, and ended up regretting it right before he hit the ground. Adrenaline is a hell of a drug.

✧ Popular tumblr headcanon, but I'm a FULL supporter of the Knoxcliffe sibling agenda. Ron was Grell's first mentee!! He got to be the younger sibling for once, instead of the firstborn son that has to do everything to protect his family, no more 'man of the house'. Nah, he got trained by the biggest baddie around, and decided 'Man, this is nice, I'm going to annoy the shit out of her.'

✧ Graduated the Academy with decent grades, passed the Final Assessment with flying colors, and was So, So, So excited to finally be able to get his own, custom glasses. Ended up shaking Grell so much from excitement he fainted, and she had to drag him to Medical.

✧ While work is the main focus of his second chance at life, the reason he's so cheerful/prideful/arrogant (depending on who you ask) is because he finally gets to Live Life. No more worrying about if there's enough food on the table, no more worrying about helping to pay rent, no more avoiding simple things like going out, or avoiding buying nice things for himself!

✧ I think the reason he's a playboy is because he wants to experience Everything relationships have to offer before settling down. If he settles down. Ronald doesn't believe he'll settle down anytime soon, though. Give or take 300 years (or retirement!! whatever comes first--). Or, The One, but true love at first sight is ridiculous to him.

✧ His arrogance and pride are his biggest weaknesses. It was arrogance that got him into gambling debt, it was arrogance that got his ass kicked on the Campania, it was arrogance that got his ass kicked by a CHILD. He is talk shit while getting hit. Ronald doesn't know when to SHUT HIS MOUTH. Losing a fight, bloodied and beaten, but still managing a witty one-liner and a wink.

✧ Since reapers, in my canon, are at least 80 years to a century ahead technology wise- Ronald was immediately fascinated on what was possible. On how much more efficient things could be. This ended up with Ronald tinkering with mechanics a lot!! In my modern AUs, he's all 'high trends' and pop culture until you look at Bessie. A beat up, red(?) truck he doesn't want to scrap, so he constantly tinkers with it.

✧ The mower was his pick, solely because it's extremely efficient for collecting Cinematic Records. The blades spin fast enough to cycle through multiple at once, and since observing the records are just protocol at this point, he figured it'd be the best for avoiding OT. Oh, and he doesn't have to walk. The lawnmower was made to carry him. He cares for it 'Like his only child'- William and Grell tease him whenever it gets jammed.

✧ There's a fear of insects/arachnids somewhere. That's a secret surprise for later, though.

✧ Ronald is neurodivergent, we all accept this /j. BUT, in a more serious note, I think one of his specific tics is sharing food/lunches, solely because it's a 'safe' way of sharing affection with those he cares about. Grell makes sure to keep extra room on her tray for when Ron passes half a sandwich or dessert to her. On a rare occasion, and he will NEVER admit this, William let Ronald share a grapefruit during lunch. This was a big sign of trust for their friendship, since William is extremely specific about his lunches and can't let anyone touch them, and Ronald didn't know how exactly to show his feelings.

William was minding his own business yelling at Grelle one time because she had chased Undertaker around London declaring that the coffin he sleeps in was the perfect ride to the next world, so long as he continues to humour demons. This yelling was interrupted, however, when Ronald ran into the room with a flaming towel screaming "I fucked up, I fucked up, I fucked up!"

It's possible that most reaper ladies work in the office and front desk positions, though I hope it isn't a systemic sexism thing, because if it is, it will confirm that even the shinigami dispatch society still has a long way to go. >~>

I think so, or at least not in Retrieval (probably something about needing “strength”… as if women like Mey Rin don’t exist). I’m hoping that there are more women in Forensics at least. Unfortunately, the story is set in the late 1800s, so I think the sexism in the human realm extends to the Dispatch :/. Since they constantly misgender Grelle, I don’t think they treat the cis women any better. It kinda makes me sad to think about tbh!

Hello! I adore your family AU and I'm curious about the events that led to Charlotte's birth? Did Undertaker manage to bring back R!Ciel in this AU but it was a less public appearance? Also, do Sebaciel and their baby eventually leave the spotlight to live their immortal lives on their own terms?

And if this prompt idea interests you: Since Charlotte's lover is Grelle's prodege, how about her making a big scene of her and "Bassy" being in laws now and Sebaciel dreading it?

In my head, the whole Undertaker thing was over and done with: o!Ciel proved himself once and for all that he was the one knighted by the Queen, and that he was the one performing all watchdog duty.

It also helps that r!Ciel is already dead. To prove one's alive is easier and it proved also that the dead can be manipulated, thus, can be used as an instrument of lies.

The Phantomhive left the spotlight when they departed from London to America to avoid the Great War in 1914. Afterwards, none really knew where they were, or what happened to them. Funtom continue to grow under regional management, but the owner can only be contacted via mail or telegram. Once, taking advantage of the owner not being around, an executive attempted to funnel company's money into his own pocket. A week later, he's found dead in the office. Reason of death: cannot be determined; his body looked to have suffered no harm. Frozen on his face was an expression of utter terror. On his desk was one single Funtom lollipop.

The Reapers was around when Charlottes was born. The whole dispatch, including Grell, William, Ronald (but not Max though, he hadn't died yet) perched outside the manor on tree branches like vulture, ready to pounce. None had expected Ciel Phantomhive to survive; not even Sebastian. A half-blood child between human and demon had never before existed; her warring natures too might yet not survive the outside world. And seeing as demons drain human life forces, it might very well be that the halfling would kill her mother the moment she was no longer in need of a host body.

But then Sebastian emerged from the manor, in his human form but it looked quite off, beastly even if you looked close enough, followed by his dark tendrils... and a baby girl in his arms.

He showed her off to the prowling death gods:

"She's alive," he said, "and so is her sirer. You are no longer needed here, Grim Reapers."

William adjusted his glasses: "You don't know that, Collapsar. Ciel Phantomhive is not yet out of danger." At this, the demon bares his fang; ill winds picked up; the shadows that enveloped the mansion became impossibly darker:

"He is mine. The boy has been mine ever since our contract. Death hath no claim on his soul."

Will and the Demon exchanged a long look. In the end, Will reluctantly ordered the dispatch to call the mission off. One reaper protested:

“But sir…” “There’s nothing we can do now, or do you fancy being snuffed out of existence by Collapsar?” He spared the speaker a look.

When they all left, Ronald get close and whistled upon seeing the baby, and said: "You sure that adorable babes came from your gene, pop?". And Grell just :)) sighed exasperatedly like when you found out your kpop idol bias is getting married.

I also think the dynamic between the Phantomhive-Michaelis and the Reapers would be like:

Will on a mission in the midst of London > feeling something tugged at his leg > Look down and see Charlotte being tearful mouth quivering: "I lost my papa and dada, Mister. You're their friends right? You're around all the time" > Will reluctantly returned the demon child to her demon parents 🤣

So yes, when they met again in 2020s, there there isn't a lot of animosity left; just a sort of playful annoyance (?)

As I have said before, Max initially hated this grown "Lottie" because of his prejudice against demon and his perception that she deceived him somehow. They had an enemies to lovers arc. The moment it started to shift more toward "lover", Sebastian was horrified. The "Sebas-chan" still makes him shiver even to this day 🤣 meanwhile, Grell is just behind Max giving him (terrible) date gifts ideal and trying to match make.

William T. Spears' Character & Personality

William is a Grim Reaper who's part of the Management Division of the Grim Reaper Dispatch. He's an aloof and dignified man. William strictly observes rules and formalities. As such, he expects the same from others. William performs his duties with diligence, precision and impartiality. He doesn't take kindly to those who cause trouble, particularly if said trouble forces him to apologize for their actions and work overtime. Beyond this, William has no qualms about inflicting injuries on others. He deems demons disgusting creatures and calls them a variety of disparaging names. Nevertheless, William's decorum outweighs his distaste for demons.

Grim Reaper Headcanon Blurb

here's just a good chunk of all headcanons I have for general Dispatch shenanigans!! below cut :> ˗ˏˋ ★ ˎˊ-

✧ A general one shared with most of tumblr, but the reapers looking more inhuman. Sharp teeth, glowing eyes, pointed ears, the works! I personally think they carry the smell of decay with them. But I also think they carry physical traits from their deaths as well! A reaper who drowned would look bluish/greenish, a reaper who died of blood loss would be ashen, burned by fire have dryer/leathery skin, etc. etc.

✧ On the list of 'petty things to get written up for', unpermitted scythe modification is probably high on the list. Dispatch, regardless of the staff of the Management Division's own personal thoughts, requires everything and anything to be recorded and reported. Even if it's just a simple blade change. People forget!

✧ When a reaper first 'wakes up', they're treated with cold and clinical detachment. A statistic before anything else. Dying is incredibly traumatic, and 'waking up', a reaper is probably going to be in shock! It's easier faster to go through the paperwork first, before beginning to explain everything. Even then, there's this shitty information pamphlet the doctor hands you, called 'So You Killed Yourself! What Now?', to help explain the role a new reaper now plays.

✧ There's different levels of blindness a reaper can have! While they're all legally blind, some can see more than others! I personally think Grell and Othello can see colored blurbs, and can make out features but to really see specific details they squint, while William is almost-fully blind, only seeing big splotches of color. Like a bleeding watercolor painting.

✧ Birthdays aren't celebrated often. There's either no-time or no purpose to them, because a reaper is 'one age' forever. Death Days, while not celebrated however, are treated with kindness and respect and empathy- The whole shebang. Death Days are reminders of the fact this is a punishment for their suicide, making a reaper feel that anguish that caused them to take their life anyways. In certain, severe cases there's even physical reminders (an old bullet wound beginning to bleed, water being coughed up, feeling like one's burning alive). Calling out and having either your: Mandatory Partner, dear friend, or romantic/queerplatonic other half(ves) spend the day with the affected reaper is MANDATORY, due to how volatile it can be.

✧ Mandatory Partners!! My personal example is William/Grell before Will got 'promoted' to Management. Or Alan/Eric before the Tragedy. A mandatory partner is essentially someone a reaper in Retrievals works extremely well with, and the Higher Ups require reapers to NEVER BE ALONE and have someone else in the area. There's too many dangers to working alone, without backup a skip away. If there isn't anyone a reaper works well with (or their MP is assigned far away), a Mentor or Management position can take the place of the MP. London Dispatch, however, is usually short-staffed and can't supply this often, meaning reapers work alone instead of in pairs.

✧ While most demons can't permanently kill a reaper, they can severely wound one so a Bigger Threat (starving demon, Greater Demon, rogue deserter, Dispatch Itself) can kill them. Lesser-Demons however, can 'attatch' themselves to a healthy reaper, and create a parasitic relationship. A reaper's energy/'lifeforce' gets slowly drained unless they feed the demon the souls they reap, but this is considered low-class and taboo by demons, while reapers have very few cases of this. It isn't impossible though, with the right circumstances (and a bit of manipulation).

✧ Deserters aren't executed or jailed when caught! No, they're put into a 'reformation' process, ESPECIALLY if the Dispatch branch is short staffed. This is done as a 'final chance for redemption', before the brass takes them away forever. No one knows what happens to the ones the reformation didn't help.
