My Gothic Vampire painting and the inks.
Watercolors and Inks on 11x20 inch Arches Hot Press Paper
The painting came about by doing thumbnails during a live on Youtube and we were talking about the different ways this lovely photo by Grimilde Malatesta could be used to tell different stories based on the aspect ratio and composition.

Something about the bookshelf one in the middle stuck with me... and I decided to explore it more.
I get SO much of my inspiration from other artists. I love that artists from all over the world can share their art and, in doing so, inspire other art.
You can see more of Grimilde's beautiful dress designs and photography here

PS. Yes. I got permission and paid for the rights to use her art for my painting. Artists should always be credited and paid if possible.

Hi friends! If you love the costuming of Game of Thrones and Star Wars, please check out this phenomenal costumer! She recently posted several pictures of her interpretation of what Daenerys’ crown would be. A crown of dragon bones! Please give her a follow because she deserves all the support and love!

One of my favorite dresses in art of all time is the sheer striped chemise gown from Antoine Vestier's 1785 "Portrait of a lady holding a book." I just love the puffed upper and narrow lower sleeves and the sheer chemise showing above the neckline. This dress has also received love from the historical dressmaking community, with beautiful versions made by @freshfrippery and @grimildemalatesta⠀ -⠀ -⠀ -⠀ ⠀ #fashiondrawing #historicalclothing #periodclothing #historicalfashion #art #digitalart #dresshistory #costumedesign #clothingdesign #vintage #vintagefashion #style #fashion #historicalfashiondrawing #historicalfashiondesign⠀ #eighteenthcenturyfashion #eighteenthcentury #18thcentury #18thcenturyfashion #1785 #1780s #chemisedress #chemisealareine #antoinevestier #sheerdress https://www.instagram.com/p/B96t9h7AOy4/?igshid=1rcazkn8yuzxm

When it comes to low necklines, the modern public seems to be outraged. 😤
A few weeks ago @magdalena_regina was accused of making a certain video just to show the décolleté. And it has happened to me a lot of times too. 😩
Remember that every time you think such things, you show yourself as someone who doesn't know about 18th century fashion in depth 😁
First of all, in the 18th century nipples and bosoms weren't sexualised as they are today. After all, interest in breasts is paraphilia, something not really sex related. As the primary reason for women to have breasts is nursing. 👼
Moreover, lower necklines were extremely fashionable, and 18th century people, especially if european, weren't nearly as prude as we're today.🙈
Enter Fanny Murray.
She was one of the greatest courtesans of her century, and surely the 18th didn't lack such figures. 💄
She was so fashionable that when she had her nipple barely showing through the necklines, the rich women of the fashionable élite demanded their necklines to be as low as to bare the full globe, to keep pace with her. 😮
According to The Sentinel, 30th of July, 1757.
I translated the quote from an italian post of the author of "Guida pettegola al Settecento francese", Francesca Sgorbati Bosi.
I recommend following her page on facebook to dive in depth in the real 18th century. It's in italian, but you can get a pretty decent translation of the posts. 😉
