I really, really want to know more about the secret underground intelligence network Diluc joined in his little murder stunt across Teyvat, but will Mihoyo give it to me? Likely not. But I have so many ideas, so now with little to no context about anything below; The Secret Underground Network Lore! (WIP)

Summary: 

The Secret Underground Network, or SUN, is an international underground information network that is dedicated to Teyvat’s prosperity. With their centuries-long knowledge, SUN is privy to knowledge that even the Archons have and operates in deep secrecy because of it. Should Celestia get wind of their inner workings, they would all be destroyed. 

At its core, SUN’s final objective is to keep Teyvat safe and prospering at all costs. It would keep Teyvat safe from even the Heavens themselves, should it come down to it, for Gods are nothing to the non-believer.

Functions; 

SUN’s objective is one that can be carried out in many different ways. As such, operators typically have their own objectives they carry out, and occasionally the network will assign organization-objective missions. 

The network’s recruiting system is a volunteer-based one. People of interest or like mind to the network’s operators are often scouted and then approached for recruitment. Because recruits and operators willingly give up their time, names, and even lives for their chosen objectives, they are referred to as volunteers. 

Volunteers can climb up the rankings of SUN by completing organization-objective missions, aiding other members, gaining more connections, and proving through time and effort that they are not a flight risk or a possible information leak. 

The rankings only serve to increase how many of SUN’s secrets a volunteer knows and has the bonus effect of earning other operators’ respect and acknowledgment, holding more influence within the organization. Most volunteers can go through their entire careers without learning a SUN secret and still complete their objectives.

SUN Volunteer codes: 

For a long time, SUN was forced to use a number of general codes. Due to the sheer number and widespread locations of volunteers, it was impractical to change these general codes. Thus, these general codes are only used for first contact, security checks, and encoded vague dialogues. Volunteers would then establish second contact with one another and make their own codes to provide another layer of security. 

Now, with the invention of the improved Dodocommunication Devices, or Dodo Devices, SUN volunteers can more easily communicate with one another. 

(Note; Due to the true nature of Sumeru’s Akasha System and Terminals, SUN volunteers are not recommended to use them without a Mirage device. The Volunteers in the Akademiya are tired of wiping the terminals of leaked information.)

Answer 1: “No, my guests are sleeping. I have creaky floors, and I wouldn’t want to disturb them.” (No nothing has come up/My enemies are inactive/nothing new and nothing given or gained.) 

Answer 2: “Yes, they’re quite bright.” (Yes new things have happened) 

Q 1: “Maybe we’ve seen the same stars.” (Does your new thing relate to my objective?)  

A 1: “If the gods are kind, then we have.” (Yes.) 

A 2: “The stars are plentiful, so I doubt we have.” (No.) 

A 3: “The sky is always moving, so eventually, we’ll have seen the same constellation.” (Maybe, lets talk more/trade info to check.)
