#BookReview It Happened One Summer (Bellinger Sisters #1) by Tessa Bailey ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 #ItHappenedOneSummer is amazing, entertaining, very hot and sexy romance that follows LA socialite, Piper, being sent to a small fisherman’s town, Westport, as a punishment to learn responsibility by running her late father’s dive bar but unexpectedly she finds herself getting connected to her roots and falling for not just the town but grumpy bearded sea captain. The story is about self-discovery, connecting with roots, belongingness, trust, faith, and love. I didn’t exactly like Piper in first few chapters but as story progressed we see many layers in her character and then it’s hard not to love her. What I loved most is it’s not just Piper who developed in this story but also Braden. Supporting characters are also amazing. Hanna and Fox are my favorite. I also loved the sibling relationship. Romance is super sexy, hot, and swoon-worthy and so so perfect. It is well balanced with rest of the story. It’s not just sexy scenes that are in abundance but also emotions, hilarious moments, lovely and romantic moments, and many surprises not like twist and turns but more like characters surprising me. Overall, this is delightful, fun, touching, and swoon-worthy romance with lots of emotions and hot sexy scenes. The stereotype of "the helpless woman"

I don't know why TikTok is trying to punish me but I'm constantly seeing authors trying to sell their "romance" books showing pieces of dialogue between the two main characters and it's always painfully cringe.

It's without exception the same vulnerable, insecure type of woman who either needs to be saved by the "bad boy", gets involved in some weird mafia sh*t similar to 365 days (god those movies are awful) or she's getting pregnant by the male love interest without intending to (and he always wants to get her pregnant for some reason?) Most of the time all three of these events happen.

This stuff grosses me out, I've seen hundreds of these books and there's nothing interesting about them. I've been reading since i was a little kid and I've been writing too and usually that's just the kind of stuff you'll find on wattpad for free.

For clarification, write what you want, read what you wish, this is just my personal opinion.

What I've been thinking about are the problematics that come up by romanticising the stereotype of "the helpless woman" who is always reliant on someone else. Usually the relationship between the main characters in question is also containing abusive or toxic patterns.

Pregnancy also gets glorified a lot. I honestly don't get what's making it this romantic, and frankly it's weird to read how the male protagonist is so obsessed with getting her pregnant after just meeting her a few weeks ago. Oh yeah i forgot to mention the time span of the events that happen are usually rather short. Sure, a baby ideally is the product of the love between two people but in that context…

Dear authors, i know it's hard to find unique plot points, i really get it.

After all, books aren't meant to portray every shred of reality but to be an escape of our daily lives, I'm aware of that.
