Moose's Guide to Quick and Easy Gold
So I get the vibes in the community here that a bunch of people don't really know all the tips and tricks to making easy money, so I thought I'd do a writeup on some of the small ways I make gold in Guild wars 2
Trick 1: You have wealth you don't know about
An inportant thing about Gw2 is that a lot of the wealth it gives out isn't in actual gold but in materials that you can then sell for gold. For a lot of people I think its easy to just click 'deposit all materials' and then forget about it. For me personally I have only 100 gold in my wallet but If I were to empty out my material storage I'd gain an additional 300 or so gold. The site GW2 efficiency is really helpful for telling you what high value items you might be holding on to, though It takes a bit of setting up.
Trick 2: Sell Orders!
Admittedly this is something I'm bad about, but if you can delay your gratification, but when you sell something don't fulfill someone elses buy order and instead, set up a sell order. I'll give you up to 10% more gold out of everything you sell
Ok now onto the acutal wealth generation methods
Trick 3: Send your least favorite character to the New Kaineng Jumping Puzzle
Jumping Puzzles in EoD reward jade runestones from their final chest, which go for 80 silver on the trading post.
Find the wiki page to get you through the jumping puzzle here, though there are often commanders on the New Kaineng lfg offering teleport to friend transport to the end of the puzzle. Basically you get a character to the end chest and every reset log in on that character and get your free! runestone, almost a gold for ~30 seconds of work
(as a note you only get the runestone once per day per account so don't send multiple characters there)
Trick 4: Leivas Hands out Gold, make sure to collect it
Ok not actually but he may as well. So this guy who hangs out in Arborstone, once you've gotten the Globalization mastery, will sell you 5 antique summoning stones every week for a grand total of 10 green prophet shards, 10 unusual coins, 100 imperial favours, 7000 karma and 1 gold. The summoning stones can then be sold on for ~3 gold each, netting you a profit of 14 gold for going up to an npc and pressing 'f' (or whatever your interact key is)
Trick 5: fast and profitable metas you should be doing daily
Let me introduce you to my favorite wiki page:
the event timers list
This lists out every meta event and world boss that'll be happening soon and all of them will give you at least something, and the meta's from HoT onwards awards you a hero's choice chest that'll contain at least one of these valuable materials to choose from: amalgamated gemstone (60 silver), jade runestone (80 silver), ancient ambergris (1 gold 70 silver) or an antique summoning stone (3 gold). It should be noted the last 3 only appear in the EoD meta's, for all other times choose the amalgamated gemstone.
With that aside there are 3 events in particular that you should try to get done that'll take 10 minutes or less
first up is the Legendary Ley-Line Anomaly, the naked man. The timer's page tells you which zone it'll spawn in and when it does you have to seek it out and murder it. Mounts are very recommended because this thing dies fast. Anyway when you kill it, it drops 2 things: a mystic coin (1 gold 20 silver) and some vendor trash worth 50 silver, pretty gold for 5 minutes of work
next is Dragonstorm. It happens once every 2 hours starting from the eye of the north and affords you the opportunity to beat up Ryland. If you join the public option you join a crowd of up to 50 other people and its easy enough that you could even afk if you wanted (though that would be very rude). Anyway once you murder the champions and blast the dragons you get to watch them share a passionate kiss as the die and you then get 2 gold straight up, 6 memories of aurene (worth 1.5 gold in total) as well as a chance to win the lottery and get ascended weapons or, even rarer, the very expensive eye infusions
Finally is Tequatl the Sunless, a world boss in Sparkfly Fen that awards you 1 gold straight up as well as a chance at an ascended weapon as well as a bunch of materials and unidentified gear
speaking of which all the other events give unidentified gear too and they aren't actually terrible rewards, you can get a pretty penny from selling them.
Trick 6: Daily Rewards
Firstly, just logging in every day gives you a sadly decent amount of income, mostly in laurels and mystic coins. Coins can just be sold if you're after cold, laurels can be spent on a variety of stuff. And if you're looking to turn a profit, HERE are the best ways to do so.
Also, do your daily achievements people, sometimes they're a pain but the daily completionist gives 2 gold as well as 15 achievement points, more than most other achievements in the game. Also they drive you towards content you wouldn't do otherwise (the daily achievements are the reason why I've done most of the jumping puzzles). Also If you're bad at any of the dailies on offer, usually a bunch of other people are also trying to do dailies and they're often willing to help. I see mesmers porting people through the daily JPs all the time.
Trick 7: Spirit shards can be converted to Gold???
I admit, this isn't something I do myself but if you're accumulating spirit shards like I am there are methods to turn them into gold
They're listed HERE
(again, this isn't something I've tried myself, I can't vouch for how well it works and all the methods require a starting amount of gold. But if you're desperate it might be something to consider
But I want more Gold, how do I get it?
If your looking for serious gold farming there are probably better guides than this but here are a few pointers to start raking in the money
1: As far as I understand, Drizzlewood Coast is the most profitable activity in the game, gold per hour wise. Runs take a while and you kind of have to pay attention to maximise gains but, if gold's what you want this is a good option.
2: Look for meta trains, I notice them happening a lot around reset, basically its a group that goes from meta to meta doing them in sequence. There are a few guilds that do them every day so if you see a train, chances are its on at the same time every day. I find them to be pretty chill, offer some nice variety in content and offer good rewards as well.
3: Fractals. Yeah I know this is getting into endgame content but doing T4 fractal dailies every day gives you around 20 gold straight up, a bunch of materials worth even more gold and a decent chance at ascended armor and weapons (and so many ascended trinkets, seriously at this point they get auto-salvaged if they drop)
Apart from that, pretty much everything in this game gives you some amount of rewards, even if they aren't entirely obvious, so don't stress too much, provided you aren't roleplaying in the serrated blade or whatever (Though good on you for having fun!) you're likely earning some amount of income. Even if it's only in materials

Ignis, the will o' the wisp (it/its)
Ignis is a will o' the wisp turned Sylvari "born" in the Blighted Bog in Dragon's Stand. When Mordremoth died, his loose magic reached a wisp and was absorbed into it, which made it come to life as a sylvari.
(More text and trivia under the read more)
With both the dragon's magic and will o' the wisp nature combined in it, it poses a great danger in the area still, despite the dragon existing no more. It can talk to fellow sylvaries in their minds, luring them to the swamp, promising them a place to rest; which is just a mere deception, as it kills them the moment they reach the bog. It also attacks anyone who sets foot or camps in the swamp, making people believe the place is haunted.
Trivia:
Only it knows its own name and "origin".
It prefers to target lone, lost travelers, who can't live to tell the tale.
It also prefers to "one-shot" people.
Its main method of attack is its own elemental magic; it can manifest in its hands and ignite fire with its mind.
Once it stole a longbow and quiver full of arrows from a fallen traveler and imbued it with its own fire magic; so technically it can fire fiery arrows too.
Since no one can actually approach it and it speaks only within minds, it has no need to talk out loud and so is, in practice, mute.

Quick Guide for a Smooth and Quick Toypocalypse ⛄️
Tumblr media
Just a quick guide so that Toypocalypse can a bit faster and hopefully more enjoyable for everyone involved~
General Strategy
Every player should pick a different zone to focus on, so that there's no need to struggle for resources and the whole map gets covered by clusters of catapults! Here's a map of the best spots:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The areas in red are secondary spots where you can expand or move to if an area is already covered. You CAN cover a whole map with properly built Labyrinth, Hoelbrak and Village, so you can team up to do those!
You want to pick spots that are close enough to be in reach of other people's catapults, but not so close that you have to fight for resources. See what your party is doing and act accordingly.
For your own zone, you want to pick a good spot to build your Catapults (high, good view over the map) and then surround them with a few Snowmen and the occasional Ballista. Soon, your Catapults will be able to nearly one-shot enemy waves that spawn close enough, while the rest will take care of those that get too close during reload.
Properly set up clusters are more effective than randomly placed toys! Clusters focus enemies in a few spots and catapults' barrages can clear them even at their spawn. Stray toys will spread enemies around the map and Catapults may not even reach them :(
There's a cap AND a decay timer for siege toys! Old toys will despawn if you place too many or after 15 minutes with no upgrading! Try to place them with intention from the start, then after round 4 it's best to start upgrading what you've already placed.
Your strategy should be to aggro enemy waves away from the center and clear them fast! While you want to drop a few toys on the central platform to defend the dolyaks (pretty useful in the first waves and for extra security), only place them on the outer edges and don't overdo it! Enemies will aggro on siege toys, and if they're too close to the dolyaks... well, that kinda defeats their defensive purpose, and it'll hurt a lot if it's Toxx's turn.
Focus on Toxx as soon as she spawns (every 2 rounds, after a few waves of regular toys) and try to break her CC bar asap! You don't want her to destroy your hard work, but be careful of her attacks, especially the one where she spins and reflects projectiles (you can get oneshot if you use the rifle).
Siege Toys and Weapons
Catapults are your best friends and Snowmen are their buddies! Let the Snowmen do damage, aggro and chill enemies, so that Catapults can reach them over long distances by firing in an arc. (a full barrage from is extremely satisfying to witness)
Ballistas and Walls are not bad, but should be used sparingly. Ballistas attack faster than Catapults, but unlike them they are single-target and can only hit enemies that are in a straight line in front of them. Walls should be used only as a way to block or bottleneck specific areas, as toys will usually ignore them if something else is around.
Siege toys do more than any weapon skill! Pistol is kinda useless after the very first wave, while Rifle and Smasher are overall better. They mostly matter during Toxx fights.
Remember: a few upgraded toys are better than many base toys.
While you can build in a cluster, you're better off leaving at least some space between them so that you can have an easier time upgrading them later. (This example for the two points above is a bad example: FAR too many toys for one spot + extreme lack of space between them)
Tumblr media
If you know spawn points, you can place a single sacrificial Snowman (you'll have plenty of snow anyway) in there to immediately aggro enemies and give your Catapults extra time to clear the wave where it spawns.
Tips & Tricks
When holding Snow or Scraps, you can use your 3rd skill to run faster!
You can gather extra gifts after every Toxx on the left side of the map! (Round 2, 4, 6 and 8. Round 10 gives its own reward in the bouncy chest.)
You can regen health by hanging out with the dolyaks for a few seconds, and if they're hurt you can heal them using Hay!
If you want extra security for the dolyaks, there are 4 Skritt Mercenaries on the sides of the map that can be hired for 3 Scraps each.
Resources respawn after a few rounds, so do try to use your first round of resources responsibly! If you're doing fine with your numbers, upgrade early or maybe even bring some of your Scraps to party members that are struggling to set up!
Siege toys are built right on the spot your camera/mouse cursor is aiming, and you can take advantage of it to build more precisely! Also, if you're building against a wall, it'll be placed above it! (In this example of my fave Labyrinth configuration: toys are built by aiming on the pole at the intersections and end up on top of them + walls block the entrances)
Tumblr media
As a note, the Wiki has already a pretty decent guide, but I wanted to sum things up and add to it!

All right. So.I wanted to make guides for lab farming builds before the start of Halloween and partway through I got annoyed because of the herald stacking that's been going on. I think the boon loot sharing change from WvW that trickled over into other game modes was unequivocally a good thing but it's had some side effects. So I decided to make a high effort anti herald propaganda film video with strong options for every single class, explanations of the choices, and alternatives for core classes if you don't have elite specs or only have the core game.
The TL/DR about the herald stuff is that in order for giving boons to count as your loot it has to be your buff on someone elses buff bar and if any of the single stack buffs get overwritten by someone else you don't get any credit for the kill which means more people pulsing the same boons and fighting over those tags means you're all interfering with each other's loot. And also that might and to a lesser extent fury are bad for lab unless you're fighting a boss because generally you want to not be selfish and share tags as much as you can. And yet I guarantee that like at least three quarters of heralds are running around with facet of darkness and facet of strength pulsing while also taking the "You apply might when you apply other boons" herald trait (shared empowerment).

idk how to say this without sounding silly but gw2 has helped my mental health so much. like in my early/mid teens it was escapism for me when the world started to become unlivable, and now in my 20s its a push into confidence and self esteem.
i cant just blame it on gw2, i know that ive done massive steps into healing and becoming human all by myself these past two years, but i cant help but notice how much especially trying out endgame has helped me to not underestimate myself anymore.
when i started playing (and raids didnt even exist back then) i had already told myself that id never even bother to try craft a legendary. id never go into pvp or wvw, i would never be able to complete world exploration. thats all too hard.
raids came out and i knew id never try one because im simply not good enough, and i dont have the friends to try them with. and im sure as fuck not going into lfg. same with strikes. just another type of content i wont be able to play.
then came this community and friends and guilds and people that were willing to take people like me and just give them a gentle nudge. a space where i dont have to be afraid of underperforming. where a wipe isnt a loss but a "ouch oops lets try again!". and once you have people willing to ease you into it, suddenly that one thing you were scared of isnt all that scary anymore.
turns out i can do strikes with my friends! we die a bunch of times and have fun! and then it turned out i can do an easy raid boss, and i can finish the rest of the wing while im at it.
maybe this game isnt that hard. maybe i dont suck at this as much as i thought.
in the past half year ive made three legendaries. thats three more than in the last 9 years ive been playing this game. turns out it isnt that hard, i just didnt bother trying look into what i actually need to do, i didnt bother trying making it easier for me, i didnt bother to just try.
and this isnt just about making a cool weapon or beating a boss in a game, in the end this is about having the confidence to try something. about seeing a task that seems hard, but going into it anyways, just to see if maybe it isnt that hard. and if it is that hard? i can ask for help. there are friends that are willing to help. there are strangers that are willing to help. and if nothing helps, at least i tried.
i forgot where i was gonna go with this. anyways. thanks guil war two for 9 years of therapy

I'm terrified of doing group content in gw2 though. I just unlocked my first dungeon and I'm like uh. Wtf scary
I've had a good experience doing an overworld event with some random players, the player base I've seen seems chill so far. But I just have no idea what to expect from the culture of the game or the dungeons or anything and I have no friends to take me through it like I did in ffxiv

the good part of a fresh expac launch: stumbling thru everything for the first time along with everybody else; the chaos of learning new metas and new events where no one else knows wtf to do either; discovering something and getting to answer questions about it in map chat like a learnéd old sage dispensing arcane wisdom, which is both fun and thematically appropriate
the bad part of a fresh expac launch: no guides yet 🫠
