Stardew valley rant:

I’ve recently been really getting into the life of spouses after you marry them, because for the majority of them, they kinda just stick at home, occasionally visiting family or friends. And those who do still do stuff, it never changes. Maru always works with Harvey at the clinic, Emily always works for Gus at the saloon, nothing really changes in their lives besides a new, much more sedentary lifestyle. I really would like for the spouses to get new hobbies and stuff when they marry you, so here’s my little ideas/headcannons, bachelorettes first!

Abigail: She begins to work on her adventuring skills in the mines and you’ll find her on every fifth floor, going further and further. She’ll give you gems from her travels, and eventually, when she reaches the bottom of the mines, she’ll start going to the skull caverns where she’ll give you iridium and the occasional prismatic shard. Something cool that could happen would be the addiction of an elevator to the skull caverns as she travels further down, every 25 floors. She would also become a member of the adventurer’s guild and serve as Marlon’s apprentice, taking over the guild on some days or opening a branch in the Calico desert that she mans sometimes.

Maru: Maru never really branches out beyond her personal inventions, so I think there could be a quest where she asks you for a new wing of the house that she could use as a workshop. This wing would be constructed by Robin, would be unlocked at 20 hearts, and would cost 750,000 gold, 250 hardwood, 10 iridium bars and 10 battery packs. Then, you could accept quests from Maru every once in a while and unlock new inventions that she made that would increase qol. Maybe she could give you a crafting recipe for auto-petters, she could make a device that automatically plants grass in meadows for your animals, a machine that can increase the quality of items by using a resource or something, the possibilities are endless!

Penny; Penny is always caring for the children of the valley, and I think it would be great if when you marry her, like Maru, you eventually get a quest that allows you to build a school for the kids, possibly utilizing the space to the left of the community center. Maybe then we could have another mini-festival where you can see the children of stardew valley show off their work, maybe unlock a “Talent Show” cutscene where Jas, Vincent, and Leo show off their skills fr. This idea is more underwhelming than my first two and could definitely be improved.

Emily: I think as you progress your post marital relationship with Emily you could help her convince Sandy to move to the valley and have someone else take over the Oasis, learning Sandy’s real name, unlocking special cutscenes with her, etc. I also feel like Emily would have a little workshop where she makes clothes and you could unlock a system where she takes your gems and a clothing item and combines them, giving your clothes a buff, like combining Topaz with a shirt gave the shirt a +1 defense buff, etc. Emily could even start a clothing line and you could gift these clothes to townspeople and get new sprites and portraits for them :D

Haley: After marriage, Haley does literally nothing but see Emily once a week. This needdsss to change, so I think she could discover her passion for photography again and start a blog about the valley, which would unlock a building to the right side of the Bus Stop: the Tourist Center. You could open a tourist center with Haley and occasionally get tourists that come to the valley, similar to the tourists at the Stardew Valley Fair. These tourists could roam around the town for a bit, and you could unlock new dialogue with the townspeople about the tourists, like “These tourists are really boosting the community economy!”

(Cc specific) Leah: Leah would start hosting art classes in the community center every Wednesday! Every month, the group of people who decided to attend could make a new painting that could be hung up in the community center, orrrr you could unlock a new building between the Blacksmith and the Movie Theater/JojaMart, where you could see the different art pieces and could have a new festival, the stardew valley fine arts conference, where the Famous Painter Lupini could host a talk with the artsy people from the valley and Zuzu City, and you could get new clothing items, a cutscene, dialogue, new paintings and sculptures, etc.

Ranking Stardew NPCs by how likely they are to commit a felony

The Dwarf. Upon entering custody of the CIA, his only public statement was “It was just a prank bro.”

Sandy. She definitely has a shady past, why else would she change her name and work in the desert? My bet is she killed 14 men and was a professional con artist.

Morris. Profits is profits. If he has to enslave a work force to get that bigger payday, there is nothing stopping him.

Leo. Doesn’t know what laws are, would commit grand larceny on a regular occurrence.

Mr Qi. Sometimes you have to do the wrong thing for the right reason. He would know what those reasons are, but no one else would.

Shane. If his alcoholism went any further, then perhaps something may have gone wrong. He would regret it immensely, but it doesn’t change the fact that it happened

Kent. He would do anything to protect his family.

Maru. Experiment gone wrong. Dozens wounded, possible fatalities.

Clint. 20 dollars is 20 dollars

Since the granddaughter of the old man moved to pelican town to take care of the farm he passed her on, Haley couldn’t seem to think straight anymore. Literally.

At first she didn’t understand why the fuck this stupid farmer continued to talk to her, even after she always turned her down with an „Ew“ or „You smell“. But the farmer didn’t let herself got irritated by this behavior. Quite the opposite actually. Whenever she went into the dessert for whatever she did there all the time, she collected some coconuts and gave Haley one, just because a little birdie told her she might like them.

That little birdie spoke the truth and Haley was thrilled. Surprised, but thrilled. As summer came around she sowed sunflowers and when they where ready to reap she always brought Haley bouquet. In spring on her birthday the farmer even came around with her favorite cake, baked with own milk and strawberries.

The new farmer was a sweetheart through and through and Haley even tried to turn down her bitchy behavior around her.

At first she saw her as a good friend but as the flower dance came around, the farmer already lived there for over a year, Haley noticed that she got unbelievably jealous about the fact that she didn’t asked her to dance. On the other hand Haley was too shy (or too sassy) to make the first step and just sat out silently her anger as she saw Abigail asking you. The fact that you politely turned her down didn’t change anything either.

‚Maybe y/n isn’t even into girls..‘, Haley thought without even realizing that she just admitted to herself that she had a crush on the farmer. She continued to suck it up and to live into the day, giving her best not to think about her.

This plan worked well for about one week, until someone knocked at her door, holding a bouquet of sunflowers into her face.

„For you. The first ones of the season.“ Y/n stood there with a heartwarming smile. „Thanks… I guess“ Haley mumbled, taking the flowers. „You guess?“, y/n mocked her slightly, watching Haley turning. „I’m just messing with you. You’re welcome.“ she laughed, waved and turned around to go. „I still have a lot of work to do. The sheep won’t shave themselves.“

With an awkward chuckle Haley closed the door. She leaned against it, hearing y/n talk to her sister Emily about a wool delivery she ordered and that she could bring it until the next day. Finally, she heard the front door falling into its lock and with a silent sigh she opened her door again.

„Haley. Are you okay? You seem tense“, Emily asked her a little worried. Another sigh, this time a loud one, left her lungs as she walked into the kitchen, grabbing a vase for the flowers.

„Honestly? Not really“, she finally decided to open up. Emily approached her, hopped on the kitchen counter and waited for her to continue. „It’s about y/n“, Haley admitted and placed the vase on the table after filling it with water. Then she turned around again to face Emily.

Nervously she played with a strand of her blonde hair, not quite sure how to say this. It’s a simple sentence, but still so hard to say somehow.

Emily knew that something‘s off as Haley actually answered her. Usually they’re just arguing.

„It feels like I like her or something.“ She almost choked on her words. „Like her in a romantic way?“ Emily asked to make sure she‘s on the same boat as her sister. Haley nods. „I thought I was straight but apparently I’m not.“

With a smile Emily climbed down from the counter and hugged her sister, who surprisingly didn’t try to push her away. „There’s nothing wrong with that.“

Haley was relieved that her sister was fine with that. Emily released her and looked her into her blue eyes. „Go shoot your shot baby.“

„Does she even likes women?“, she asked still insecure about it all. Her sister just nods. With a relieved smile Haley turned around and walked to the door.

„Don’t call me that ever again!“, she shouted at Emily, not having mean intentions, before she left to look for y/n.

Yess let's get it! If some of the gifts given seem vague its bc I'm trying to keep it to where anyone can fill themselves into the farmer's character so less specific gifts since idk everyone's personality and what they like

Da ladies:

Haley: she's a sucker for name brands, she likes to flex her fashion. As for giving, she'd give you something equally as expensive as she expects

Emily: she'll make you something! She'd want something spiritual like crystals or tarot cards, or she'd like something you baked. It doesn't have to be fancy, if you baked her some banana bread she'd probably tear up

Penny: she'd probably take you somewhere instead of buy you something, and she insists she doesn't want anything, but she'll love anything u give her

Abigail: swords. Women love swords, just trust me. Give her a sword. As for your gift, she'll get you a souvenir from attempting to go in the mines. Probably just some copper ore or something

Maru: completely unrealistic present but one that she'd love if money weren't an issue is a star. You know how people pay to have stars named after people? She'd invent something that would help you with your daily life

Leah: unsurprisingly she'd sculpt or paint you something loll. I think she'd like a set of watercolor paints bc they can get mad expensive to keep buying

Da guys:

Harvey: if you made him a photo album of you guys together he'd cry. He'd do the same as penny and take you somewhere instead of buy u something

Elliot: he'd buy you the most beautiful jewelry you've ever seen. He'd tell you that he doesn't want anything but you, but will be so happy to get whatever you give him. He'd especially like if you did something cheesy like write him a poem/song

Sebby: if you ask him what he wants he'll say "i dunno", but i think he'd like a pet frog. He'd name it after you and everything. He's not the best gift giver so he asks robin to help him pick something out for you. He'll probably go with a stereotypical present like a candle from bath and bodyworks or something

Sam and alex: they both look for something as beautiful as they find you. (Yes, you too boys. You can be beautiful too) they've been saving up for a while to get you something amazing

Shane: he'd give you something that took him all season to put together. He might build you something and keep it locked in the shed in secret. He's good at surprises. He'd tell the chickens the progress he's making all month. As for what he'd like, he'd insist that you dont get him anything. If you give him something, he'd prefer something you made or something that didn't cost much or make you spend too much time on it. Honestly you could make him a friendship bracelet and he'd secretly wear it every day tucked under his sleeve
