OKAY let’s get into this. 🎉

This is a note from the future after writing this. I fear I got very deep into all the details and possibly went off track- you probably wanted just a list…

So I actually have a kind of (potentially) weird view on this. I will cover the boys first so this is maybe not a most to least scale (hence potential weirdness) but it’ll answer your question. I’d like to clarify that when I say possessive I don’t mean in a way that develops into toxicity, I hope this still applies. Maybe I’m leaning more into protective, clingy and straight up down bad. I just don’t want this to lead anyone to believe any of the characters are toxic or anything, maybe I’m rambling. OKAY

Jungkook is absolutely the most possessive. Outwardly. HOWEVER- Believe it or not, Hoseok and Jin will rival that possessiveness but you don’t quite see it as much because it isn’t so blatantly obvious. I’m a firm believer that it is similar with the rest of the boys but they’ll be more subtle or on and off about it. These headcanons mostly push on the future of SCSC because at this moment in the released chapters, they aren’t in an established relationship and so if you feel like this is a spoiler of any kind STOP READING NOW 💜

Jungkook - OH YOU DONT EVEN KNOW WHATS IN STORE- ahem. As we have seen… he’s bound to be possessive- not in a concerning kind of way but he’s so blatantly obvious, really damn touchy, literally any moment he gets he is touchy and while I don’t particularly cover it in much detail in chapter 7, he is very possessive over the nest MC (and he) made, isn’t fond of the rest of the boys even going in his room simply because he feels it’s so special and DAMN RIGHT, Jin is allowed, to an extent because MC initially invited both him and Jungkook in. While he isn’t (and would never be) aggressive about them coming into his room with MC’s nest there, he does find every opportunity to not have anyone in there, if they want to borrow some of his clothes- stay right there he will get them. Oh hyung what are you doing here- WAIT- uh I heard Jimin calling you… literally such a dork about it and he knows it’s possessive, they all catch on sooner rather than later and begin to tease and prod at him for it too. Let me clarify that he is very much possessive over the nest based on what he takes MC would want (the other boys hadn’t been invited in so he was pretty adamant on them not being anywhere near it, it’s MC’s, his and at a push… maybe Jins…) I mean we did see him tackle Jimin and just lay on him because he smelt like MC so… if that was your guess, you would be very correct. I don’t want to give too many spoilers about the future of SCSC of course but he is very touchy, very very obsessed with attention from MC and yeah possessive.

Hobi - NEXT UP. Oh now this man is very much so. But like I said, it’s more so the little things. MC is walking next to him but a little bit further away than he’d like? Straight up pulling her in, hand around the waist, pulled into his side. Maybe he’d excuse it with oh there was something on the path. He kind of looms over MC whenever he has the chance, very observant like VERY when they are together (like we saw in the cafe with the half-nesting after MC and Tae danced) and he will happily act accordingly to whatever he thinks is best. Simple tasks? Hand hovering MC’s lower back the entire time KEY WORD HOVERING he is subtle. Someone walks past them and glances up at MC? Pulling her closer OR putting himself closer. He isn’t the touchiest of the members by far, that’s what makes his behaviour all the more noticeable and why he’s high on this list. Yk that thing where people put there hands on your waist to slip behind you or move you to the side? Yeah that’s Hobi. Hoseok is also more possessive and claiming in ways other than just touching, when it comes to courting there is a specific gift he absolutely LOVES to give MC and it will be a constant and frequently mentioned topic and trust me you will understand when we get there, you’ll KNOW. I can’t give much more info on that gift because if I say one word too much you’ll instantly know BUT feel free to speculate. He has a unique scent, he uses that to his advantage, it’s so different to Mc’s that it sticks and can overpower MC’s, sometimes he will just push it out to subtly claim MC.

Jin - we already know this man is so handsome it can be intimidating and he KNOWS IT. He uses that to his advantage, he doesn’t have to do more than put himself just an inch closer to MC to assert himself and like I said he KNOWS THAT. That’s a constant, continuously putting himself closer to MC and she often doesn’t even realise it’s because he’s getting a bad vibe from someone or simply is feeling more possessive. Jin once again isn’t the most touchy but he is more so with MC, will go out of his way to find opportunity to guide her into things (hand around waist, lower back, on thigh, TRACING OVER HER SCENT GLANDS LIKE ITS NOTHING) When it comes to being touchy otherwise, he absolutely never stops MC, infact if she lets go, he will bring her hand back, will gently brush over her hands with his fingers encouraging and ALWAYS gets a little cocky when he makes her blush. She even glances at his lap? Sitting even more invitingly. He isn’t even possessive in the sense of public claiming, he is more possessive in a self indulgent way if that makes sense? Loves to put his hand on MC’s thigh when he’s driving. Loves to stand behind her when she’s baking and act busy. He’s very much an acts of service lover, washing, brushing and drying Mc’s hair just the way she likes it, cooking and feeding her, adjusting her clothes for her all the time just as an excuse to touch her, always having a hoodie on hand for her because she is colder than he is. HES A MASSIVE FLIRT TOO.

Now. Joon, Yoongi, Tae and Jimin don’t sit on a scale in my opinion, they all kind of vary in what they do, very much on and off it’s just that Jin, Jungkook snd Hobi’s behaviour is so starkly different to their usual that they sit higher on the list. Tbh maybe they all kind of level out around the same place- lmk what you think after you read!

Yoongi - you know how he’s always fluffing and ruffling his own hair like mid talk? He does that, to MC, just over and over for no reason, doesn’t matter if they’re alone or with others. He doesn’t care what other people really think, he’ll happily pull MC onto his lap without a second thought even if they are with other people. He’s not the jealous type but he makes himself known, silently. Once again, he’s EXTREMELY nonchalant about his touching, rubbing his hands up and down MC’s thighs, swiping his fingers over her lips, readjusting her position, maybe her face, maybe her body. Tugging her clothes into place, resting his hand and touching MC’s scent gland in her neck just casually, he’s like NOT SUBTLE but he’s so casual about it that it seems subtle- the kind of casual pda and attention that makes other people lose their train of words and just KNOW that MC is his and he is MC’s.

Joon - OH LORD THIS MAN HAS MC AND ALL OF US FOLDING, he always finds an excuse to have his hands on MC, shoulders, waist, thighs, sides of her neck, ankles, in her hair, you name it his hands are there. He loves to hold hands, he also loves to hold MC’s waist, not even hard his hand is just THERE, rubbing small circles through or under her shirt. The thing is he does it so nonchalantly like- as if he’s not doing anything and honestly who wouldn’t be stuttering and blushing at that. While the maknae line make their touching so obvious and intentional, the hyung line DO NOT- but it’s just as affective. He’s slightly more bold in more public settings; going to a party for someone? He’s got one hand around MC’s waist and the other handing her a drink, making it very obvious that he’s there but also NOT. It’s that balance that is literally maddening. Like in chapter 6 when he puts his hand on MC’s knee to stop her bouncing it- EXCUSE ME SIR?! He’s extremely attentive, tugging MC’s clothes back into place if they even slightly rise up or slip out of place, her necklace is the wrong way around? He’s moving it back into place like it’s nothing and swiping his hands over her scent glands at the same time.

Jimin - In contrast to the hyung line this pretty boy is so obvious. He literally will drape himself all over MC- and she eats it up. Considering he’s actually pretty shy, he doesn’t act like it when it comes to showing off their relationship- Constant tight hugs, burying his face in MC’s neck and nuzzling into her scent gland like LORD YOU CANT DO THAT- his hands wander so casually it is just like what- hands repeatedly going up and down waist to thighs waist to thighs over and over, nuzzling into MC’s hair- even when he’s just with the other members, if he want’s MC’s attention he just inserts himself, redirecting her hands onto him, into his hair, distracting her. While the others will pull MC’s clothes to cover, Jimin will slip his hands under even just a little or just put his hands where her skin’s showing and his smirk speaks louder than a thousand words like yeah she’s mine and what? Also- buying clothes for MC and pointing it out like oh this is nice who got you this? Knowing DAMN WELL. He will HAPPILY scent MC in semi-public like it’s nothing- another member who uses his scent as a claim like WHEW CALM DOWN THERE- Holding MC’s hand all the time too, it’s a subtle claim but it’s enough, a lot more subtle than his other methods-

Tae - AGAIN- touchy asf. Back hugging just to look over MC’s shoulder when they are at the cafe and she just laughs it off prying his hands away because she’s at work but he’s staring directly around, hands rubbing MC’s stomach, splaying his hands all over it, covering it and rubbing the scent glands in his wrists over it until MC is blushing and slipping away but he’s satisfied- The thing is though, he’s NOT the jealous type, he’s just very touchy and knows MC is his, confident in that too so he doesn’t often get jealous and doesn’t act on things as if he is jealous. He flirts a lot, subtly, raising his eyebrow, winking, playing with his tongue in his jaw so you can see it and that is more than enough because MC struggles to focus even if she was deep in conversation and then he breaks into big smiles, a hand wrapped around her waist knowingly and that is enough for him. That kind of reaction just sates any kind of possessive thoughts. He’s very very touchy but in an almost sweeter way than some of the other members, even if his touch is firmer than say Namjoon for example, it’s somehow just even sweeter. He likes to buy MC pretty jewellery as part of courting, sees her wearing it, gushing to her friends about it and that is once again enough to sate his possessiveness and WE KNOW he has good taste in jewellery.

NOW. Moving on. To the MC

I fear I have just went into all of the ways they are touchy and kind of gone off on one about nothing to do with the ask IM SORRY 😭💖💖

MC - I’d say the MC isn’t all that possessive, there ARE moments though… sometime in the future Tae was being flirted with when they were on a walk (obviously have you seen this man.) she was a little bit further away, Tae clearly wasn’t entertaining it, just being polite but MC came over, a little pretty flower in hand, slipped right infront of Tae and put it in his hair, finished off with a smooch to his cheek and this man gets all blushy and red and does not for a second even think about moving that flower. The people flirting with him got the idea. It’s more the subtle things but also… scenting. Once she gets started with scenting them, she never wants to stop- like never, she’ll quite gladly scent them so heavily they are dizzy and dopey and can hardly think when they get to the practice room or especially right before they go on tour or have to do a trip, everything in that suitcase absolutely reeks of MC and the boys eat it up. Ontop of that, they wear scent blockers to hide their own scent from the public mostly but MC will take her blockers off just to scent them, so heavily that it’s all you can smell on them because it doesn’t block the scents put on them only their own. Another thing she does when they go on tour is she’d got them all a little present for courting which I WONT CLASSIFY BECAUSE SPOILER but it’s reusable, they take it everywhere and they LOVE THEM. You’ll understand when your older kids. MC isn’t jealous/ possessive when it comes to yk the millions of people in their fan base at all because these are all very emotionally mature characters, sure they have their moments, no one’s perfect but at the end of the day that would be silly, they only have romantic love in their eyes for MC and she knows that (eventually)

The twin girls getting into readers makeup and giving Buggy a girly makeover before a cross guild meeting? The girls also wanting to give uncle Mihawk and uncle Crocodile a girly makeover as well, who are they to say no?

Make Up Time

• "He's late-" Crocodile grumbled, Sitting back in his chair as he took a puff from his cigar in irritation.

• The men had been waiting for nearly half an hour for their other Member Buggy to actually make an appearance. Typically the man showed up on time- However it seemed today he wanted to slack off..

• Mihawk was leaned back with his hat covering his gaze as he just decided to rest.

• Crocodile got ready to stand, figuring just leaving was better then staying in a empty room. That was till the door finally slammed open-

• "About time-"

• There walked in Buggy- The typically flashy dressed man with a large hat seemed to be missing that day- instead a exhausted blue haired man- his hair in a messy bun and simple trousers strained with something and a baggy button up that also had some either food or paint stains- As well as carrying a big bag.

• "Fuck- What happened to you?" Mihawk questioned- genuine sympathy in his gaze as he looked at the clearly exhausted father who looked like is he got into a fight with a eviler clown that likes pinks, purples and glitter.

• Crocodile raising a brow as well, that was till he saw the two little girls trailing behind Buggy giggling and beginning to run around with thwir toys. They hadn't seem then since they were sick and Buggy clearly needed the assistance-

• "Is the Misses sick again?" Crocodile mused, earning a glare from the exhausted father who took a seat at his chair. "No- My wife doesn't need to be sick for me to watch our kids.. She's just taking a day to herself"

• He sighed as laid back, clearly tired already.

• "And you're tired already?" Crocodile said with a roll of his eyes.

• "They are just High energy" He said calmly as he set the bag down. When he did the girls decended onto it like a pack of hounds, pulling out more toys and what was more noticable makeup-

• Mihawk looked down and saw one of the little girls- Ari if he remembered correctly tugging on his pants leg and doing grabby hands to be picked up which he complied to.

• "Have them sit then for the meeting-" The man grumbled.

• "Thats now how kids work. They either play or scream their lungs out for the next few hours-" Buggy explained- Ali saying 'Up Up' to Crocodile as she tapped his leg and tried to climb up with a makeup pallet in her hands.

• "Why not discipline them to sit still-?" Crocodile asked genuinely a bit surprised as he picked up Ali finally and set her in his arm. Their understanding of younger children clearly lacking.

• "They're three asshole- They dont need to be disciplined for wanting to play-" Buggy said quite irritated by Crocodile's line of thinking-

• Crocodile looked to Mihawk to back him up but saw the man with his eyes clothes as Ari was already applying something to his eyelids- "Just suck it up and let her do the makeup-"

• For Fucks Sakes-

• "So our monthly take home has increased by- Okay no makeup in the mouth" Crocodile said calmly- Ali sitting on his arm as she dabbed a healthy amount of purple lip gloss on the brush and pressed it to his lips- sure some getting on his teeth.

• Ali giggling up at him cutely as the man sighed, Taking the brush and applying it himself to show how it's done.

• "Pretty!" She squealed, clapping her hands as Crocodile grumbled something and nodded. Letting her have the tools back to absolutely destroy his face in more makeup.

• "Let's continue-"

• For the next hour the men crawled through their meeting, while trying to handle the two toddlers in their care once more. Buggy reaching into the large bag he brought to get them snacks and drinks- both of which were forcibly shared by the toddlers as well.

• Nothing like floor cereal for a bunch of dangerous pirates-

• Once the meeting was over- all three men were exhausted beyond belief, like they all had their asses beaten thoroughly and humbled just ever so slightly.

• When they walked out the meeting hall no one expected the rather weird sight. Mihawk holding Ari who was asleep tucked into his side, his had removed and his face decorated with red lipstick, far to pink blush and a smear of blue, red and orange around his eyes and brow- paired with what seemed to be a purple bow in the front of his messed up hair.

• Crocodile holding Ali who was talking to him in her broken array of words. The man supporting her on his shoulder, his own hair apart in two pink tails with non matching hair ties, purple lip gloss on his lips and eyelids, blush on his cheeks and nose- something blue on his chin and gold glitter on his cheeks.

• No one dared to look at the group- both from fear and fear of laughing at the leaders.

• "I will say this- I am impressed" Crocodile said- Buggy staring at the man in surprise but didn't press further. Just smiling with bubbling pride-

• "Honestly. It wasn't as bad as I though, They are cute" Mihawk said calmly. Adjusting Ari on his shoulder who mumbled something in her sleep-

• "It's typically pretty nice ac-" He stopped as he heard shouting from the other side of the lobby doors. The three men stopping in their tracks as they just stared at the closed doors.

• A loud crash could be heard paired with a pair of cackling as matching small feet could be heard scampering around as sound of Galbido yelling could be heard and Cabaji trying to tame whatever destruction was taking place-

• "Please tell me there are no more-" Mihawk deadpanned, staring at his peer who sighed heavily already knowing that those were his boys-

magery hello,,!! i hope this isnt too forward but i discovered you via _maiqo on twitter a long while ago and have been absolutely enamored by your works ever since — your writing is an enormous inspiration to me and i sincerely hope that my works can one day match the same level of excellence.

you absolutely dont have to indulge me at all, but is there any advice you can give in terms of writing character studies? :’D if not its totally ok !! and anything works !! i just figured it’s worth a shot haha

In an attempt to answer your question, I'll talk about how I think about and approach character studies. It may be that much of what I say fails to be useful to you, but I hope to be of some small aid regardless!

To begin, I think the most fundamental element of writing a character study—as a piece of fanfiction, though much of this can be applied without significant difficulty to orginal works—is to have a firm vision of who the character is to you.

This is separate from having a firm vision of who the character "really" is. Nobody can have that—every way we engage with media is coloured by our own values and perspectives, and that bleeds into the way we think about and write characters. This is sometimes a difficult dichotomy to balance against the principle of "they would not fucking say that", but to borrow some old and too-simplified physics, I think it can be useful to consider that a character is in many ways like an electron in an electron cloud. Their precise and perfect characterisation is not something that we can ever truly locate, but we can identify the area of narrative space it is most likely to be in.

The task of the character study, I feel, is to hammer down on the part of that narrative space that you find most compelling. To take the meat of their character and cook it the way you would want it served to you. A character study is not to please anyone else. A character study—or, at least, the kind of character study I write—exists for you to get your feelings out about the character you have been rotating in your brain onto the page. It also exists, of course, so that you can try to show those feelings to other people and hope they feel them too, but you will never succeed in actually capturing those feelings in the first place if you don't allow yourself to write your authentic vision of the character.

They don't have to be your blorbo, or your problematic fave, or your three corners of the OC design triangle, or whatever, but when you write them, for that space and time they do have to be yours. Otherwise, what's the point?

Once you have that vision, you can put them in practically any situation you like and as long as there's something in it for them to bounce off, you're going to be able to tell a story that reveals something about the character. If you look at the "plots" of a selection of my character studies, we have "one guy folds sheets, another guy asks him questions" as a plot, we have "a pair of exes talk across a tabletop after a party", we have "oh LAWD they FAWKING" like four and a half times, we have "retelling the plot of something else" twice, and we even have "two people on a helicopter flight for an hour". It's not really complicated stuff. It doesn't need to be. The character, or characters, just need to be in a situation where they're going to have some reason to think about, and maybe even talk about, whatever conflict or idea or relationship you find most compelling about them.

With that said, it should be noted that it's... well, for me, with the way I do things, it's very very difficult to conceive of writing a character study in any situation without a clear and central conflict the character or characters are grappling with. All of my character studies revolve around a problem a character has and how they react to it. And yes, "having a conflict" is, like, the quiddity of a story, the most basic plot diagram there is. But what I'm trying to say here is that even in the story I mentioned where two people sit in a helicopter and talk to each other, the story is intensely focused on the internal struggle one of those characters is having with the choices that led to her sitting in that helicopter and how much they do, or don't, make her like the person she's sitting opposite (both more and less than she knows). And that's the sort of thing that I think is key. The conflict, in my eyes, needs to be philosophically central to the way you view the character and what you want to say about them. It needs to be tightly intertwined into what you find most compelling about them—the thing that you just want to sink your hands into and squeeze, for good or ill. That's how you get to really show the world who they are and why you care about that.

After that, I really think that in a lot of ways it just comes down to the prose. How deeply can you write into your character's head? Are you colouring even your description of the world around them with the way they would see it—or are you taking the opposite path and presenting the character entirely through someone else's eyes, so that you can characterise them through the distance between what the other person thinks about them and how they present themselves? You don't need frame-perfect metaphors or the Inanna-Ishtar LGBTQIA+ sharingan-coloured prose to do that, but you do need to focus on writing in a way that expresses the character.

This does take focus. How much focus depends on how specialised you are into that style of prose, but it is focus nonetheless: you need to think of your sentences, each and every one, as tools to communicate something about your understanding of the character that you want the audience to know. Some of them will inevitably instead become vehicles to reach a point where you can communicate that understanding, but something as simple as what a character notices first when they walk into a room tells you something about them. Lean on that. Lean into that. After all, if you're writing a character study, the writing should study your character.

(Colour this advice with the fact that I am, as you've probably realised from reading my writing, very much a prose-focused writer. I have spent near on fifteen years, since before I even graduated high school, honing my prose for poetry of language and interiority so that I can write in the way I most enjoy reading. That affects what I value in writing, and it affects my opinion on the way people should write. I believe what I am saying is true and good and useful, because I have faith in the way I engage with my art, but my advice does not chart the sole and singular course to the ever-distant utopia.)

To tl;dr myself, my advice for writing character studies fundamentally boils down to to the idea that I think a character study is most potent when it presents a vision of a character that the writer has clearly obsessed over. That they have layered with their thoughts, their perspective, and their heart to the degree that it drips even from their prose. A character study with the confidence to say this is what I think is compelling about this character, and I want you to see it too.

I may not agree with it, I may think "They Would Not Have Fucking Said That", I may even think the writer has just invented an unsustainable interpretation of the character that demonstrates startling reading incomprehension and I can't believe I have to share the same fandom as these people.

But at the same time, I know people have thought and said that about my own works—and I'm still happy that I wrote them.

I have far more respect for someone who's written an entirely committed and deranged interpretation of a character that I think is Flatly Fucking Wrong than I do someone who presents me with the most milquetoast interpretation I can't disagree with. If I choose to read a character study, it's because I want to see you study the character. That's, as the meme goes, why I'm here.

So, really: focus on determining who you think the character is, write them the way you want to see them written, keep your prose tight to who you think the character is (not just "would they say that?" or "would they think that?" but "how would they describe that?" and "what would they see in that?"), and commit to the bit.

Like, that whole thing with Oz conquering the world with Salem and tricking people into worshipping them as gods. Yeah he eventually saw what he was doing was wrong, but that was after he and Salem had 4 kids. So for a long-ass time he was an imperialist god-king

That's very possible, anon! I don't know how many unanswered asks are sitting in this inbox now, but it's not a small number...

Totally agree. I think Oz gets criticized to an unfair degree by the canon and fandom alike (no one is shocked to hear this lol) but part of my issue is what he's criticized for, not just the extent. The show tends to take incredibly weird perspectives like, "How dare you give our uncle cool bird powers with no downside" and "How dare you save group members from a deadly airship crash." The fandom takes stances with larger political implications like, "How dare an abused man 'steal' his daughters away from the mother who wants to use them for a magical form of genocide" or issues that fundamentally break the core concept of the show: "How dare you let teenagers fight dangerous battles / How dare you reincarnate - something you have no control over - into a 14yo boy." The show does engage with some of Ozpin's morally complex choices with no easy answers like, "Is it okay to keep secrets if history has shown severe downsides to revealing that information?"... but then the answer the story decides on - "No it's not" - immediately doesn't apply to half the cast, with no examination of how that changes our perception of Ozpin's choice. And, as you say, the show simultaneously introduces HUGE mistakes - "You positioned yourself as a god! Then a king!!"- that the characters could absolutely mistrust him for... but they don't. Because they're too busy focusing on all of the above.

The only thing I'd push back against here is anyone being mad at Ozpin for "nearly attacking" Ruby. I'd consider that a highly unfair criticism as well given that:

We don't know if he would have attacked. He just charges with his and out-stretched, so Ozpin could just as likely have been intending to snatch the Relic

All these characters have aura and train/hit for funsies on a regular basis. It feels like a stretch - one working to paint Ozpin in an unfair light - to act like Ruby taking a hit is suddenly some horrific event that's worthy getting up-in-arms about

In this same scene the girls pull their weapons on Qrow and Oscar - someone WITHOUT that training/fully unlocked aura - gets punched into a tree. Again, consistent morality. Why is Ozpin in the wrong for charging with an open hand (ambiguous) but the girls are justified in pulling their weapons (clear intent)? Why should Super Fighter Ruby be defended for taking a hit after forcibly stealing secrets from Ozpin, but we should shrug off the newbie farm kid taking a hit for the "sin" of being an unwitting, passive vessel?

Plus... as said above, "forcibly stealing secrets." I'm not saying Ozpin is 100% justified in attacking Ruby over this, but I think he's a HELL of a lot more justified compared to actions like threatening Qrow or attacking Oscar. Ruby ignored his requests to give the Relic back; she ignored how terrified he clearly was. She wasted a wish (which Ozpin knew would happen). She revealed his entire, traumatic history to the group PLUS a total stranger (Maria) which, again, Ozpin knew would happen. Of course he tried to stop her. We will never know what lengths he would have gone to, whether he would have truly fought Ruby or just made a last minute grab, but even if he had fought her... It think that's understandable. We can argue about whether it's right, but it's not the sort of thing the heroes should be holding against him once tempers have cooled, especially when he has stuff like playing God that they have hold as a long term grudge.

Out of everything Ozpin has done, maybe being willing to fight the prodigy fighter to keep her from making one of the stupidest decisions we've seen in the show to date is pretty low on the sin list.

IVE LANDED MYSELF SOMEWHERE KINDA NOT GOOD!

A month or so ago i had to up and quit my job very short notice for health/safety concerns, this sudden jump and change in income left a huge gap in my financials and i was not prepared to leave a job i had spent two and a half years at but didnt have much of a choice.

Omg congrats on your surgery first of all!!

I’m not sure which specific part of the process you’re curious about but I’m gonna focus on aftercare and recovery since I assume that would be your main focus right now.

I got double incision with free nipple grafts and drains. The moment I saw my chest for the first time I just remember feeling this sort of contentment and relief. Like “Oh, this is how it’s supposed to look.” The hospital I went to required patients to stay overnight so my first ~24 hours post-op were in a hospital bed hooked up to IV. I’m extremely grateful for this because by coincidence (the overnight stay was already planned in advance) I had a bad reaction to the anesthetic. I was entirely safe, nothing scary, but it causes me severe nausea and exhaustion and I didn’t feel loopy at all, just absolutely awful. I didn’t really sleep at all that night, I lay there falling asleep in weird short intervals, waking up, needing to pee, then stumbling back to bed. At one point I walked into the bathroom and it was covered in blood. I was so drugged out of my mind that I couldn’t really process it, it felt like I was dreaming.

After that the healing process was pretty easy though. I was prescribed antibiotics for like 10 days, oxycodone for half that time, and some really strong ibuprofen. They also gave me one of those anti-nausea patches on the back of my neck. I struggled with a bunch of nausea for the first day after getting out of the hospital but never threw up. I was pretty functional right away. I wouldn’t necessarily recommend this but within the first 48 hours out of the hospital I was walking a few blocks to the closest grocery store and carrying groceries back. Felt like shit but survivable. About 4 days post-op I took a train 4-5 hours north to see family on my own then was in a car for another 4ish hours back home a couple days later. Just took a shitload of oxycodone and ibuprofen and played video games and listened to music the whole way, totally survivable. So it really wasn’t all that bad.

About 3 weeks post-op I went back to school and work. At the time I was on a pretty walking-heavy campus with tons of hills. I applied for short term disability just in case I had trouble carrying my textbooks around or walking up hills or something but tbh I never needed to utilize it, it was fine. I was super tired but fully functional. So overall I’d say recovery was pretty easy. I had limited mobility for a couple of weeks, it hurt to raise my arms above my head, needed help reaching some things and showering was a bit tricky, but over time that went away.

I’d say without a doubt the worst parts of recovery were:

Not being able to shower for the first week. This absolutely fucking sucked lol. I was so greasy it’s not even funny. I would try to rinse my hair with Angel’s help over the tub and do like sponge baths basically but it was NOT the same. Definitely recommend dry shampoo (we didn’t think of it until after). 

Sleeping on my back. I am NOT naturally a back sleeper. I really struggled with this. Having a dick piercing now I’ve gotten better at it lol but at the time especially it was so incredibly difficult to sleep this way, I was already crazy uncomfortable from surgery and being greasy and tired and sore and then on top of that I could NOT get comfortable to fall asleep.

I had some weird emotional and hormonal responses to the surgery. My period returned in full force about two weeks after my surgery for the first and only time since it stopped on T. At that time I also experienced some pretty nasty post-op depression. I think it was a mixture of weird dysphoria (mostly a sort of existential frustration that I had to go through the procedure in the first place), hormonal imbalances (again, my period returning…), and just general emotional response to recovering from a surgery and frustration with the minutia of the recovery process. I just felt really, really low. Tired and tired of being tired. This passed over time, but it was not fun.

Pettier complaints: Nipple grafts suck to heal and look disgusting at first. Trust the process lol. Wearing the compression vest is kind of annoying. I was like, dude, I got this surgery so I don’t have to bind anymore! 😭 Anesthetic can (and did) cause constipation. I had to buy laxatives. None of this was unbearable but it definitely all added up and contributed to the post-op depression.

Stay hydrated, eat well, take probiotics, take vitamins and supplements, take vitamin C and zinc, a small amount of exercise/physical movement is good but don’t overdo it, get lots of rest, and listen to your surgeon’s advice. If you’re not sure, ask.

I think my biggest advice is to remember that our bodies are pretty primitive things—Injury is injury to them. You’re getting a surgery you wanted to better your life longterm, your body is purely focused on healing, and is responding to awareness of an injury. It’s hard to feel super excited about the surgery right away, you’ll be too deep in your body’s healing response to physical trauma. It’s exhausting at times and it can almost feel like your body is working against you. It’s NOT. I found undergoing top surgery (and transitioning in general) to be an amazing meditative process in aligning your brain to your body better, but that’s a process, a relationship you form through work the same as any other. You need to trust your body’s natural healing process.

Bodies are weird and healing is messy. I had weird inexplicable symptoms that I’d tell myself I’d contact my surgeon about if they persisted or worsened and they didn’t. I had UTI-like symptoms for a day that went away on their own. I had really uncomfortable weird restless leg syndrome for a night or two. One of my drains came detached from the tape holding it down and it had no negative effect. One of my nipples looked vaguely infected but my surgeon was unconcerned and it healed fine. None of this was serious, try not to worry if things seem a little odd, unless symptoms get progressively worse, show no signs of getting better, or are really, really obvious signs of infection/complication. Just listen to your body and take care of it. 

I felt comfortable going out shirtless after about… a year or so? It took about that much time for things to settle. For a few months it almost looked like I had excess skin sagging on the sides, this went away by the 12ish month mark. Nowadays I don’t do any body building but I try to do some push ups every day to keep my chest somewhat fit. 4 years in and sensation is still minimal, definitely doesn’t have the same sensitivity as the rest of my body, but it also continues to return every day! Literally to this day I notice new shooting nerve sensations growing deep in my chest now and again. A few months ago I had notable nipple sensation for the first time since the surgery. My scars are still fading, although my chest generally seems to pass for cis irl which is awesome.

I could go on and on about all the small details but I think I’ve talked your head off enough for now hahaha. I love my results and I’d do the whole process over again a thousand times if it meant having what I have now. Literally changed (and saved) my life.

The most fun discord servers I've been in have had lots of different kinds of people. Really fun friendly types who were welcoming sure, but also snarky people or shy ones or others who were a little neurotic and rarely talked (me).

That leads to lots of different conversations and lots of different ideas which I think is a lot of fun for a fandom to have. But in retrospect it feels a little like there was this. Seemingly inevitable march towards division. Like small cracks keep forming as every one branches out. The internet as a whole has become pretty... discourse filled.

that doesn't exactly answer the question since the real Most Rancid Topic is like, problematicness or something. But I think division between friends in fandom hurts the most. I've started to come to the opinion that having a discord server in a fandom is like, a garden, and if you want an excellent community it probably takes some great amount of conscious effort and planning, but I'm not an expert in that

This isn't the 'worst' or anything but something I love about the show is how messy every one's feelings are. Glimmer and Catra practically kiss on screen (in my heart). Adora crushes on like half the girls she sees, Perfuma and Bow go on a date, Entrapta says 'its a date!' super casually. Catra blushes at scorpia etc etc

It's really fun to see the whole cast getting criss crossed in modern au's, but a lot of fanon just has them all destined for their endgame pairings from the start and I'd love to see some genuine glitra or glimmadora or scortrapta that's more than just the initial plot for something else.

Worst Part of Canon:

The worst part of canon is probably either like... Scorpia getting almost no resolution or Glimmer's season 4 plot line pretty much stopping dead in its tracks.

My real curveball opinion is that Spinerella and Netossa got WAY too much screentime in season 5!

They were pretty much entirely absent the first 4 seasons (even when glimmer was suddenly struggling with being queen.) So it was really surprising. Now, I of course loved their scenes. Extremely cute and gay, I absolutely see why they were included. But I feel there was so much to do and so little time setting up an entire arc that didn't necessarily have to be there.

TENSION AND BUILD UP FALLS APART CONSTANTLY!! for me I'm a fight scene writer and I think everyone can benefit from giving these serious attempts. When you write 3000 words of straight combat, you're forced to learn the push and pull and management of the stakes. The characters can't just yell loudly and keep going higher and higher, you need dips and crests and variety

Most fanfics don't have fight scenes (in this fandom anyways), but many have scenarios with the *pacing* of a fight scene. I consider arguments, sex, and reveals to be types of fights. They're great, but using only dialogue or straightforward descriptions will get cumbersome very quickly.

Fights teach you to pace out steps, descriptive variety, build up, all sorts of things!

Unfortunately a lot of she ra fics don't have a 'fight scene' (read: [big] argument, sex, or reveals) until late in the story. I think this causes a lot of authors to fumble their build up, moving too quickly and not lingering for dramatic effect. That's why it's important to practice 'fight scenes' so that you'll be ready for the climactic finish!

bbygirl-aemond, I have thoughts, I will reread chapter 32, but I do have thoughts if you dont mind me asking them. I think initially, my question is, how do you balance the role of Valyria historically with the nature of their colonialism? Only because it seems like the picture presented is that ultimately Valyrianness is a good thing? It seemed like despite the Firstmen not wanting Valyrian conquerors who desecrated their land with fire, Harrenhal did? And that seems off to me? I mean if your pro-valyrian then totally disregard this but I had got the impression that you were rather critical of them but maybe I was conflating your critique of Viserys with your critique of Valyria and the Valyrian Freehold? Also, side note I very much enjoyed the complex relationship everyone had with Viserys and how it wasn't reconciled and that Helaena stood her ground. Your interpretation of her is my absolute favourite because she is a fully fleshed woman with her own motivations, and her distance from Rhaenyra is that wonderful icing on the cake. Coming from someone who doesn't like my own half-sister, it's very understandable Helaenas weariness but also her stubbornness not to forget what Rhaenyra put her and her brothers through. It's just chefs' kiss.

No that's a fair question! Ultimately, I think my answer is that my opinion on morality of canon is separate from what I choose to play around with for fun. For example, I don't think we're meant to read ASoIaF and come away like "yes monarchy is good actually." I'm very anti-monarchist in my everyday life, but it's tons of fun to lean into the grand imagery related to monarchy and divine right in a fantasy world. This applies to the themes of colonialism and feudalism as well.

Stormbreak is, fundamentally, a Targaryen Restoration fic, so it's not going to be doing any heavy lifting related to concepts of monarchy, feudalism, and colonialism. I do address parts of these themes, but not in full, and it shouldn't be taken as a perfect mirror of my own views outside of the Stormbreak sandbox.

As for Harrenhal--I think there isn't necessarily a moral endorsement of the Valyrian magic there. Just because something exists doesn't mean that it's good that it exists, but it is a reality. Jace's Valyrian-ness is useful in its ability to protect the members of House Strong from a curse that would otherwise kill them off. Jace's arc here also isn't finished, and we haven't seen the final form of the agreement(s) he'll have with the land he rules. This is because the First Men are, you guessed it, also originally colonizers! They invaded Westeros, slaughtered the children of the forest in spades, and destroyed their sacred spaces. They were eventually forced to stop and coexist, but only after a massive display of force (the children of the forest literally broke Westeros and Essos into two separate continents), so it wasn't out of realization that their colonizing was wrong, and they still successfully stole most of Westeros from the children of the forest, relegating them to small patches of land here and there where Weirwood trees grew. I can't spoil too much here, but let's just say the Valyrians weren't the first ones to think of imbuing the land with spells to drive out the First Men… and that Stormbreak will ultimately treat the children of the forest as the only true natives of Westeros.

I'm glad that Helaena's characterization has resonated with you! She's been so fun to write. In general, I've had so much fun with the female characters in this fic, particularly ones like Helaena, Baela, and Alys whose personalities were kind of neglected in the book and/or the show. I also have this pet peeve around the idea that women inherently always have to like each other because of girlboss solidarity, so I deliberately called attention to Rhaenyra's mistake in thinking that Helaena would side with her because they were both women. Helaena isn't necessarily always going to agree with Rhaenyra on things, which is understandable. They had vastly different upbringings, and Helaena's experience with dreaming gives her an entirely unique perspective. In this chapter, Helaena doesn't try to stop Aemond and Aegon, because she agrees with them! Regardless of how much fear she personally felt (since I think her dreams provide a lot of reassurance to her that others aren't able to access), she still spent her entire life surrounded by her family, who were very much impacted by that fear.

What are the differences between the book version of boromir vs the movie?

Where to begin babe! I mean the short answer is they are simply not the same character. If something applies to film-boromir then don't apply it to book-boromir and you'll probably have it right, and vice versa.

Film Boromir's obsessed with Aragorn and his being King? Book Boromir makes one single comment when pressed about how if the King could somehow help them in the war, he'd be welcomed. And he never mentions it again. As for Aragorn himself, Boromir is polite and even amiable with him but really Aragorn has very little impact on him. Brother? Captain? King? Fake words put into film-boromir's mouth, Book Boromir's last words were for his people, to tell Aragorn where Merry and Pippin went, to say he failed. Boromir wasn't frustrated that Aragorn himself was conflicted about going to Minas Tirith or saving 'out people', he was frustrated that the fellowship's decisions were making HIS road home more difficult. He was going to go alone back to Gondor, no matter what Aragorn decided to do, he just didn't care.

Film-Boromir saying his father's rule is failing? Taking Faramir's side in this film-manufactured toxic relationship between him and his father? Boromir and Faramir having an uncomplicated and good relationship where Faramir loves him unconditionally? Absolutely false. Faramir is book-boromir's harshest critic, he cannot put two sentences together about Boromir without making some comment about how reckless or war-loving he was, how he was 'too like the rohirrim' etc. And Boromir supports his father, it's not even in question, it's never even brought up. Of course he does, they've been working together for a decade or more very successfully in the defense of their people.

Film Boromir loudly proclaims 'Gondor will see it done' when he joins the fellowship in this big bravado speech? Boromir in the book doesn't even verbally agree to go with the fellowship. The only thing he's agreed too is to come with them as far as his city, no more, and that agreement is made off camera and told to us by Aragorn at some point. He is literally just trying to get home and that way happens to be the same direction he THINKS the fellowship is going. It's his declared intention the entire way. He JUST needs to go home.

Film Boromir is obsessed with the ring the whole way? Aragorn nearly kills him on Caradhras? Book Boromir asks at the council, calmly, why they dont use it. Elrond answers him and he accepts that answer. He is then completely reliable all the way until Lothlorien. On caradhras he saves them all by insisting on bringing firewood, lighting fires, pulling frodo out of the snow when he collapses and forging a path through the snow for all of them to get down again. It's only after galadriel puts the idea of using the ring in his head that he can't stop thinking about it but that's another post of mine.

Film Boromir is ever loud? Sad? Nervous? Awkward? Absolutely fabricated. Book Boromir never says a single feeling beyond sardonic concern and muted frustration. He is reticent, he is competent, he is confident in his abilities, he is focused on his goals, he is kind and he makes self deprecating and teasing jokes but he is never awkward and the only time he raises his voice is when Gandalf reveals that he doesn't know the way into Moria and the wargs are gaining on them!

Film Boromir makes a SPEECH? About reclaiming Osgiliath for light and music or whatever? Utterly insane firstly, Osgiliath was not reclaimed in an epic triumph just before Boromir left. It was taken entirely by Minas Morgul and Boromir retook the western half, saving Minas Tirith from a siege for that entire year. It was a desperate and pyrrhic victory that left thousands dead and required Boromir to swim the whole damn 3 mile wide river back, who is celebrating this? I hate that scene it robs Gondor of it's desperate struggle so entirely I can hardly breath about it. But also Boromir doesn't care about reclaiming Osgiliath's light and music or whatever! Boromir is interested in people and keeping people alive, history holds no wonder to him. 'Today life is good' no it wasn't! It was an absolutely terrible day! Boromir lost so many friends!

I could actually go on but I have to end here I'm very weak and feeble, the point is Boromir in the books is not the same character as boromir in the films and they simply cannot be melded without major rewrites and fixing the scenarios and relationships that the film made make no sense. Boromir from the books would say and next to none of the things film boromir does, barring that one 'they have a cave troll' line it's the only one that suits him.

the general culture there is rough bc a lot of the prominent powerposters are friends or friends-of-friends of the devs by nature of how they conducted the closed alpha, but bc of the lack of public metrics it’s considered taboo to claim that there ARE powerposters in the first place. and because powerposters are just a few degrees removed from the devs, people who WERENT part of the alpha want to emulate that general vibe. part of which means getting extremely hostile and defensive if anybody says something that could be construed as putting the devs down and claiming they’re “twitterbrained” or whatever and that people who “expect too much” of the devs are going to be the downfall of the site

the most recent incident of this stemmed from a moderating misstep where someone i followed reported a nazi channer who followed her and was part of an antisemitic harassment campaign, but hadn’t posted anything to the site yet. the staff who handled her report said “this is concerning so we’ll wait and see BUT we don’t take action based on offsite behaviour”, despite that being untrue based on previous moderation actions (notably TERFs getting nuked from orbit before they could even start posting). the person who reported them got upset and several of her followers (including me) were like “what the fuck, that’s unexpected and shitty”, some saying that made them feel unsafe in case that ever happened to them. once the decision got traction (and other people started reporting the account) the staff went back on its decision “based on internal review” and suspended the account in question, which is where this story should have ended

except, the day after it happened, i woke up to a post on my cohost dashboard that was someone screaming their head off about people who had said “this is disappointing and makes me concerned”, and kept quoting one specific person who they claimed had overreacted and was symptomatic of the above-mentioned “twitterbrain” and that it was all “bad faith”. like, if THAT is gonna be the community reaction to someone being alarmed about inconsistent moderation, why would you ever publicly bring up moderation concerns at all?

its one thing to ask site members to be considerate of staff (its a small team and half of them were at a con AND it was a weekend AND they eventually backtracked and apologized anyways so it was all good at that point) but its another thing to go off on a rant quoting mostly one specific person while claiming its really “just general you” and claim that they’re the reason the site will go under. if you’re going to claim that you need to bite your tongue over missteps “for the good of the community” that’s a HUGE fucking red flag! bc thats how resentment will grow and eventually explode into something MUCH worse! it wouldnt turn into “intra-community infighting” if everyone was like “cool, thank you, please make sure this doesnt happen again” after the issue is solved instead of dragging it out and turning it into an example of “oooo look how PRO-HARASSMENT twitter has made you, you’re HARASSING the devs by voicing concern”!

a bit of broader context- when a character is described as an (x) of (y), (ei- page of time, thief of rage, mage of space, etc,) that’s their classpect! classpect is a portmanteau of class and aspect, a sort of character role?? assignment system from the video game sburb from homestuck.

when a character participates in an sburb session, they’re assigned a classpect, which is a title that essentially sort of embodies who they are as a person, from their behavior and reactions to things, to how they view the world around them! (/rp from here on out im not classpecting the ccs lmao)

i’ll start off with connor, since you listed him first: youre half right about my choice of the time aspect being tied to his time traveler-ness, but it extends a bit deeper than that i’d argue. as an aspect, time very much embodies not just the concept of the passage of time, but what time does to things and what changes come of it. time is fate, it’s both the journey AND the destination, never staying still or the same as it was moments ago, but also being malleable enough that a miracle or little alteration could send it careening the other direction. now, when it comes to classes, i specifically read connor as a page of time. especially. the page part. like jesus christ he is a Textbook Fucking Page. pages are characterized as people who start out with very very little of their aspect, and must learn to hone and master it along their journey. which is why they’re called pages; they’re named after a knight’s apprentice from the medieval era! once they have mastered their aspect though, holy shit they are powerful. often described as one of the most powerful classes, in fact.

well, a page of time is someone who will start out on their journey lacking in time, but as they grow more, they will gain much, much more of it. a lack of time could be described as possibly... impatience? a pretend-air of acceptance and understanding when it comes to acknowledging change around them, whether it be in people or places present and past. sound familiar to how connor outwardly treats the idea of schlatt being dead by acting as though he’s moved on entirely? even when he absolutely hasn’t and explicitly states that he misses him in his diary? smells like a page just starting out on their

now, i could also go into how classpect inversion also plays a part in how connor acts in relation to his classpect, but that would take like 3 more paragraphs to even explain and i’ve already typed a ton, so i’ll move on to schlatt now lmao (also to preface this section, i’m a bit rusty on season 1/manberg era, so a LOT of this will be me going off of smplive knowledge more than anything lmao)

starting off with his class this time, i’ve come to the conclusion that schlatt would probably be a thief if anything! thieves are people that uses their aspect to steal things, or steals their aspect outright. thieves are often well meaning, but a bit self-centered as well. they’re naturally very confident and proficient when handling their aspect as a weapon, but often also have insecurities or weaknesses that they refuse to let others witness, for fear of seeming less competent than they really are. their journey will usually culminate in them learning to allow others to use/have their aspect as well, or the thief dying in the process of it being taken from them. so, schlatt is a thief of rage specifically. how does rage as an aspect work? well, while the obvious answer to that is obviously negative emotion and power, rage also manifests itself as chaos, doubt, and the concept of the truth sometimes being an ugly, unhappy type of thing. rage is causing unrest and destruction, if only to prove a point to those who have lied before that they can’t get away with it forever. it is stubborn, unrelenting, and cutthroat; in both the best and worst of ways.

with all of that said, here’s the million dollar question; how does this apply to schlatt?

well, at his core, schlatt’s a con artist that keeps the people in mind. he undermines markets with his own currency, teaching people not to trust every shop they throw their diamonds into at the cost of him growing wildly popular and wealthy. he bends the rules and darts through loopholes to sneak into elections, snatching the victory out from under the noses of those who believed they had omission-of-truth’d their way out of having to play the game fair and square like everyone else. he takes the chance for retaliation, for an equal attack back on him, away from those that are at odds with him, and uses his own wrath to gain more and more of an upper hand. that and hes loud. very. very loud. schlatt is an absolute show stopper. even on his deathbed, he took all of the fighting spirit from not only his enemies, but those allied with him as well, in order to give one last hurrah of a ‘fuck you lol’ to everyone around him.

again, i could go into even more detail about how thieves and pages are natural opposites, and how poetically hilarious that is considering how schlatt and connor are a fucking walking comedy routine, but i will spare your eyes of even more reading just this once

okay uhm this is gonna be hard to explain but i'll do my best. if you need a better explanation just say so and i'll send another anon ask. i'm on anon because i'm too scared to ask on my main blog.

i've been questioning lately if i'm a system. i've started disassociating and derealising more often, and i've realised i have multiple personalities. but not in the way that we're seperate people. it's like... they're just different personas that front depending on the situation. they all have their own pronouns, they all have their own appearance, they speak differently, they handle situations differently, but i just... don't feel like i'm an actual system.

for example, i have a 'true self' alter, a school alter, a 'trauma holder' alter, a punk riot-y alter, a 'cringe' alter, and a 'vent' alter.

i feel more aligned with the term Multiple Personality Disorder because that's all we really are, multiple personalities. i feel more like a work in progress, or still developing system, if that makes any sense. i'm also autistic so i was thinking it might just be masking, but it feels deeper than that. i don't really have a headspace that i can go to, they don't communicate as if they were seperate people, and i'm just so confused.

i don't know where i belong or what's wrong with me. we feel like a singlet in the way we work, but i know from other people that this absolutely isn't normal, and that something is very wrong. i have a decent amount of childhood trauma but i don't remember a lot of it, and i also don't remember ever feeling like this when i was younger. also, the trauma is from multiple sources.

i can't get therapy or any sort of treatment because of my parents, so all i've had to work with is a few systems i've met irl, some systems i follow, and a lot of articles about it.

sorry if this is a bit of an infodumpy rant/vent, and also sorry if i'm being an annoyance or you don't know how to help.

this sounds a lot like experiences ive heard from median systems! i want to preface this post with saying: we are not a median system and can only speak on things we have seen from median terms or things median systems have said. if any median system sees this post please feel free to correct or add things!!

there is definitely a change you could be a "wip system" but you saying "half system" and "my alters dont feel like separate people more like different personas" sounds a lot like facets which are the headmates in median systems (though ive seen they are sometimes still called alters/headmates)

the "true self" is very similar to a definitions of "core". we have a core but it applies to our headmate that was here before we were plural. but the definition that relates to what you described is

now about the trauma memories, it is possible for median systems to not share all memories. we have certain memories that aren't shared, related to our trauma, but most of our other memories are shared. memory sharing is a spectrum and doesn't need to just be all memories shared or all memories split.

about the headspace, not all systems have headspaces. there are systems with vivid headspaces, systems with semi-vivid headspaces, systems with headspaces that they can only access when not in front, systems with no headspaces, etc.

about the communication, i unfortunately dont know really anything about how median systems communication works. i know that in general, systems can have a range of communication that goes from completely closed off to completely open.

i apologize if this was a bit overwhleming! im not at all trying to force median systems onto you or anything but i think it would be really good to look into! it definitely is possible that you just feel like you adopt a different personality in different situations, especially with your autism and masking. but if you feel like it is more than masking then i definitely think you should look into system/plural stuff!
