I dont know if its been asked before, but who is your favourite clone?
Also who is your favourite touken ranbu character?
Tumblr media
Thank you so much, Anon, for this ask! I really felt shitty today, and I couldn't form any coherent verbal form of my thoughts about Ordo Skirata and Nikkari Aoe, so I ended up drawing them together in one picture. :)))) And suprisingly their dynamic works well in my head!!! Lately I'm really focused on Ordo Skirata, and yes I think I answered a question before who is my favorite from Repcomm, and my answer to that was also Ordo, so... yeah, my fixation about this character is pretty much the same as it was during the summer. I find easier to talk about Nikkari somehow, probably because Touken Ranbu is not actively in my head, so it's easier to step back and think it through but when I have to think about Ordo it's more like...
Tumblr media
(It also doesn't help that I have "it's muffin time" on loop in my brain.) But I do my best :))) Under the cut.
I usually drawn to characters with issues, especially when those issues resonates with me somehow. And oh boy, these two have issues!!!
Struggles, insecurities and needyness they both try to hide it behind being highly effective and practical surface while both have confidence in their skills to the point they appear cocky.
Why I love Ordo... I love highly competent characters who are also a big mess due to fear of failure, so their whole existence is being overcompensated by constantly pursuit perfection. Not because Ordo is really driven by the love for knowledge, but so nobody will find a questionable trait about him. He has to know everything otherwise he is a failure. And if he actually messes up things, he quickly wants to find a way to do damage control because he is also sure about himself, he can fix it.
But it's only go for the people HE LOVES. And oh he loves obsessively. He doesn't care about strangers opinions and feelings. Abandonment issues strengthening this feeling that if he is no longer useful, the people he cares about would abandon him, and this feeling is especially strong toward Kal'buir. And no matter how many reassurances Kal gives to Ordo, when the "I'm not perfect so I'm good as dead" spiraling goes on, no loving words and caring can ease the pain and the dread of being alone.
Oh boy, this is one stressed out blorbo…
As for Nikkari... My other favorite thing is when a character is an outcast, or treated as an outcast in communities. There were few lines that indicated maybe the residensts of the Citadel are not entirely comfortable with his presence due to his history.
I interpret Nikkari as someone who can be seen as a war veteran due the fact he is one of the few swords actually having fight-exprecience, given he was owned by multiple samurai lords actively waging war. But he used to be SO MANY things! He was forged as a Divine Sword, only his whole existence is tainted by that tale of cutting down the ghost of a mother and her child.
Sometimes I HC the swords having special abilities, the more older they are, the more chance they have, also being a Divine Swords also grants them godly powers, but yeah, because the ghostchild-killing tale is so ingrained into his identity that he is robbed from ever being able to ascend to divinehood. Compared to Ishikirimaru who I HC as a the divine healer of the Citadel. And from that, had a short period where he accompanied many generals to war, and finaly he acted as a guardian spirit of the Kyogoku clan's castle.
According to his lines, he describes himself quite versatile, and encourages the Sage to use him as they see fit, he will "change his colors" according to the wishes of the master. (Mind that, this is all pre-kiwame brainstorming.) But you just have to take a look at his clothes, it's plain, it's practical, no decorations (compared to the kiwame uniform), but in Hanamaru he is pretty much collector of treasures, shiny and soft stuff, loves to eat, so he desires to have nice things. I think this is one of the reason I really love to HC him to be friends with Hachisuka Kotetsu, Souza Samonji and Kasen Kanesada. These guys are so out of his league, he wants to be pretty, elegant, and being in touch with his softer side through arts just like them.
And these two met somehow... Honestly, if Ordo and Nikkari would ever meet, I don't think the communication would be so easy between them at first. Because Nikkari is constantly using puns and innuendos in his speech. Also, Nikkari's facial expression is not always easy to read either due to always smiling (also inherited from the Ghost lady). But hey, Ordo grown to like Fi as well! Fi is just not a pervert - canonically... :DDD But yeah, Nikkari also pretty much knows how to push buttons, and find a way to tease Ordo. Ordo would chase him through the whole citadel for it. But also I think Nikkari would understand him. Burdens of the past are there, Nikkari suffers from the thing he can't change and never was in his control to begin with. Ordo (and his brothers) suffers from mistreating then being labeled as a reject when they didn't meet with the expectations. Also I think a clonefied Nikkari would make an excellent ARC Trooper. Ugh this got so long, I hope I didn't make you bored that much.

Diff anon but what abt touken ranbu? It's got a game and 2 different animes, lots of pretty boys. Hanamaru days is the one I'd recommend watching if you feel like it, it's silly and relaxed. usually.
i got a tiny little bit into it ages ago but simply bc for character design of some (in a very analytical way, i liked the aesthetics of some)
btw pretty boys are not a requirement for me to be interested in a series. for example, ajin is one of my faves and i dont find anyone in there hot except the black ghosts LMFAO
(then on the other side i see one cool lady or a hot guy exactly being my type and i binge a series even tho i prob wouldnt have started it at first at all bc it doesnt fall into my preference/liking for dark fantasy/seinen AHHA)

Hanamaru - Spider Lilies
In honor of Ranmaru's event in Shining Live that begins tonight, I thought I would write up a piece on the flower featured prominently in his new card art: spider lilies.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Red spider lilies are known scientifically as lycoris radiata (referenced in another work within Utapri - “Lycoris no Mori” or “Forest of the Lycoris”). They are one of the most popular symbols in Japanese folklore and in hanakotoba they are heavily associated with death and final goodbyes. As such, they are known by a plethora of ominous names including “hell flower” “flowers of the dead” and “ghost flowers.”
Tumblr media
Their most common name, however, is “higanbana” with “Higan” referring to the “Far Shore” in Buddhism (the realm of the dead), as well as the Buddhist holiday of the same name, which takes place in the days surrounding the autumn equinox, the specific time of year in which these flowers always bloom. During Ohigan, it is customary to visit the graves of one’s ancestors and pay your respects. So it is no wonder that they have become heavily associated with loss, death, and separation.
Tumblr media
These blooms are also often grown near temples and graveyards for two reasons. The first is that they are thought to guide departed souls through the cycle of death and rebirth, while the second is that the leaves, bulbs, and flowers of the spider lily are poisonous. In old times, before cremation became the norm in Japan, these deadly blossoms would keep wild animals from disturbing the buried corpses of deceased loved ones. Their crimson pigment around gravesites is also said to be attained by the blooms sucking up the blood of the dead.
Tumblr media
Another interesting piece of Japanese folklore related to spider lilies is one of a mother who died in childbirth, thus abandoning her child, who turned into a lycoris, earning them the name “sugetobana” or “orphan flower.” There is also a superstition that having one of these flowers in your home will cause it to burn down!
Tumblr media
Now while red spider lilies are heavily associated with death and loss, white spider lilies on the other hand are representative of rebirth, new beginnings, and a simple way of life. They are also considered a guiding force, growing along the mythical Sanzu River, on the path to enlightenment.
Tumblr media
Now that you’ve read this far, it’s time to tie all these meanings back to Ranmaru and his character in Shining Live’s Onmyouji series. In this drama, Ranmaru plays the character Ran, a kijin or oni god, who looks over Tokiharu, a half-human half-demon who was orphaned when his parents gave their lives to seal his power. Obviously, as an oni god and a warden of hell, it is only natural for his character to be associated with a flower with so many ominous meanings and connections to Buddhist mythology. As well as the awesome fire powers he seems to possess in the idolized artwork. But beyond the character he plays, these flowers can similarly be related to Ranmaru’s own life experiences.
Tumblr media
Ranmaru’s backstory is one comprised of death and loss. And much of his character arc is about coming to terms with his feelings of abandonment and starting life anew with the person he loves. He cannot allow himself to be weighed down by death and grief; he must move forward on a bright road to the future, leading a simple, uncomplicated life without worry of what tomorrow holds. As he knows that anything can be taken away in an instant, he chooses to live in the present, which is considered a foundation of ultimately reaching enlightenment.
Tumblr media
Anyway, I really love rambling on about Ranmaru and flowers. So I’m happy to have a new one to canonically associate with him. ^^ If there is more information to be shared once the story is released for this event, I will be sure to update this post. And will also add on the symbolic meaning of that juicy pomegranate in his hand~

#if i missed connections between the others remember im a nikkari aoe fixed point view first and foremost.#also despite my Everything i think ive only watched the honpen twice so i do Not have it all memorised (yet)#anyway since i havent seen 2019 yet i was reading repo and a lot of people kept talking about the two wakizashi and#i love how they contrast i love it#bc yes they are both wakizashi and they both act in their role of support (especially to the two uchigatana sengo and ookurikara)#but monoyoshi is a symbol of good luck hence why he spoke to tonbokiri about tadakatsu at the battle#whereas nikkari knows what its like to be 'cursed' and so he at least Tries to connect with sengo#sengo's really awkward around nikkari bc he doesnt really Get him tho......#anyway to expand on the smiles point for the wakizashi:#monoyoshi wants to protect his master's smile right. he literally taught that to ieyasu as a child#and nikkari was there for that!! he was there when monoyoshi taught it and he learned that lesson alongside ieyasu#he tells monoyoshi at the end to smile. bc he got that from him!!!#in addition nikkari's Named after the creepy smile of the ghost woman. he himself says its a weird name#(although whether thats bc it simply Is or if he has complicated feelings around his name idk)#hes Used to being kind of weird and offputting and when you say the name nikkari you remember the ghost woman's smile!!!#eg in hanamaru when the toushirou kids think they see a ghost they immediately go seek nikkari. he and ghosts are inextricably linked#so i think nikkari learning from monoyoshi that you can cheer yourself up just by smiling instead of using it as a mask is just so important#wrt to those two#also sengo wanting to protect monoyoshi's good luck and prevent him from being tainted by the curse of killing the tokugawas is in a similar#vein to that. bc like nikkari sengo is Used to being Cursed#better to own his cursed status and scare people away by being weird than to accidentally hurt people isnt it :^#i just thought of this just now but even if sengo's not actually cursed it doesnt really matter bc its the stories that make the sword.#if you will.#if all the stories and rumours about sengo are that hes cursed then. he is. bc the swords are their histories and their histories are what#is said of them. like imanotsurugi and iwatooshi for example#also the game this is all based on is basically a gacha. :/#gemitus#tkrb#toumyu
