I read many opinions about the panel so here's my take as well.

I was left with such good vibes honestly. Seeing them together and seeing their friendship being as wholesome as it was back then, really made me happy. Their dynamic is genuinely something that I needed this month and I think all my nerves and anxiety and 5.99$ were worth it even tho we didn't get a season 4 announcement.

I still haven't given up on a possible announcement, just like they haven't either. Like, I am looking forward to the future panels but not essentially because of an announcement but because their dynamic is chef's kiss.

I wish we got more hannigram crumbs and more on their relationship and I wish it was a longer discussion indeed. I could have listened to them for hours. Well, there are always gonna be some bad parts but it's important not to turn them into the main point. I was really excited about it and it met my expectations. And that says a lot since everyone here knows I was expecting s4.

It genuinely felt like catching up with some old friends and my conclusion is that I am very happy for them and I am very happy that we got to watch them being themselves and giving us a few insights. Mads saying that Hannibal was finally thinking about his future because of Will is really everything to me!!

Now all I do is scream and cry internally, miss hannigram and madancy 24/7. Binge watch HEU stuff. Stare at Mads's and Hugh's pics and videos, call Mads Daddy, ask everyone whether they believe s4 will happen or not, sign petitions, make up scenarios in my head about how exactly I'm gonna lose my mind when they give us s4 where they finally fuck. !! HUGE HANNIBAL S3 ENDING SPOLIERS !!

I see so many people complaining about the ending. " we want a S4 where both of the are alive 🥺!!" Yeah, I want an s4 too but here is my take om the ending.

It almost couldn't have been more perfect in my opinion. Here are the reasons:

1. THEY DIED TOGETHER. Will would've died anyway. Wether he would've gotten killed by the weird dragon man or some other creepy killer who was out to get him or maybe he would've gone insane or smth idc but, he would've died soon I think. So, better he broke hannibal out and they got their little kiss kiss moment before they died.

2. Hannibal did not harm Will. It was 110% Will whom pushed Hannibal, Hannibal didn't kill Will, and he didn't force him to anything.

3. Will wanted them both of them gone together, as they were gonna be found by the FBI any day. Rather both of them be gone together FOREVER than hannibal going back in the cell or one of the dying alone.

4. Hannibal was like 10 minutes earlier talking about how suicide was horrible, BUT knowing wholeheartedly that Will wanted it at that moment he would give anything for it. He called it the perfect moment, which allowed Will to execute their perfect escape from that world TOGETHER.

when I say that Will being canonically gay in stranger things is the biggest proof we need for byler it’s not simply because we know he is gay and that’s it - there is context that comes from being in fandoms for something like 12 yrs or more. 

first of all, I’ve started watching ST because of people talking about will and byler on twitter (in july), as a person who barely knew anything about it (I didn’t even know mike and el were a couple, so I was super surprised they decided to make it romantic in s1 when I didn’t really feel like it would happen). 

i was a sherlock fan who shipped sherlock/john. i’ve shipped non-canon couples for a long time (fandom spaces are queer spaces a lot of times). i know what it feels like to read things from a text that could imply things - a text that could be queercoded, depending on interpretation. i know what it feels like to have fun with fanon and ship things that are potentially there, but not textually canon (like steddie or ronance, imo). it’s fun and it’s mostly harmless, until the writers decide to use it as queerbait to make their fandom stay with them for a long time because they’re rooting for their queer ship (i think supernatural is the worst example of this, as they confirmed the one-sided love and then killed the queer character and sent him to hell LMAOOO). those are milking the fandoms, knowing the strongest core of a fandom is the hardcore ones (many queers) and not the casual public.

i’m a big fan of hannibal, yuuri!! on ice and she-ra, three shows that are mostly queercoded until they aren’t (and they confirm the queer ship to be canon). i swear, people CAN tell. you can see when there is a creator and writer and team who truly wants to tell a queer story/relationship, even when they can’t show it openly (like hannibal or yoi). as a person of the community myself, i’ve been able to tell it was canon. it’s different from fans just shipping things, or queerbaiting, there is care and intention and writing and parallels and romantic framing and so many things that make you see that it is there.

(now, for byler i hope it’s different. every straight couple in ST has at least one kiss and i think byler HAS to have at least one (dramatic, passionate, show-stopping) kiss because it would be totally unfair if they don’t. they have to be totally and utterly canon)

what is different about byler and stranger things, compared to sherlock or other shows for the straights? 

it’s will being canonically gay. bbc sherlock would never do that. bbc sherlock would mock feelings. he would laugh about love. he would probably be even a bit homophobic, just for the sake of it.

and it’s not just will being canonically gay, it’s his love for mike being canon. i’m sure other people have said it, but will’s love for mike is NOT JUST A CRUSH. it’s not ridiculed. sure, it’s used to forward a straight ship (that is sinking), but the story is not finished yet and i want to believe that byler is endgame and the writing in s4 was meant to 1) leave things uncomplete and unseattled between mike and will, between lies and non-confessed feelings; and will being in the middle of a relationship that is sinking. 2) mike responding to will’s feelings of love and to no one else, not even el begging for him to say he loves her. 3) making EVERYONE AND THEIR MOTHERS feel sorry for will. cry for will. pity will. root for will. root for GAY WILL. (people who think he is straight and he loves el don’t count, those are morons) 

will’s love for mike is LOVE in capital letters. it is not a crush. it’s never treated as something to laugh about, or something like a one-sided crush like Dustin’s crush for Max or Steve’s crush for Robin, those feelings are clearly more superficial and you can see that they’re not gonna happen from miles away. will’s love is A LOVE THAT MOVES MOUNTAINS. it’s totally romantic. deeply rooted. it’s like those loves you can see between jancy or lumax or even more jopper in s4, a love that saves one another, that makes people do crazy things, a love that is inherently part of the character, that makes them FEEL and DO and LIVE and you can’t imagine them not being in love with that person. 

these writers know how to write that type of love. each canon ship they made (even s1/2 milkvan in some ways), i’ve loved it. they know what they’re doing, how to make it feel like it’s true love even without writing grand love confessions or making them kiss every other episode. it’s in THE NARRATIVE, the things the characters do and say and imply.

and even more, about byler... something i wrote in a fic i’ll never finish but imo it’s the biggest point we can take away from will’s love and confession in s4. WILL SEES MIKE. will sees mike for who he is and loves him anyways. he sees the best and worst in him and still loves him and knows him and grounds him to reality and tells Mike how he could be the best version of himself, pushing him to fight for it (you are the heart). will’s love is ancient and deep, it’s a love that we don’t even know when it started, it’s always been there, it’s always been part of will (and part of mike, because it IS MUTUAL). it’s like breathing. like the sun every morning, it’s just there. it’s not going away. it’s not even a choice, at this point, there is an helplessness in the love will feels - it’s too big and too much for him he would love to run away from it, but still he can’t deny his heart. 

and that’s why i think byler is endgame. because will is canonically gay, and he is in love, and no one is making fun of him for that. his love for mike is serious, profound, romantic, genuine. it makes you cry and root for him. it’s LOVE. the strongest of forces. and every byler scene is made with care. it’s never taken lightly, not even their fights, they always matter. there is no mocking in there. no sneer. it’s treated genuinely. almost like the creators are telling you: “look here, look at them, it matters. it matters to them and it should matter to you. there is something serious brewing here, and it is romantic love”

it was a collision of things. s4 was a very big disappointment for me and it was also around the time i started disagreeing with a lot of the fandom wide ideas and interpretations (coughsblindfaithcoughs).

the creator's attitude towards the shows (amongst other things) has been iffy. if you want to brag about how many listeners youre gonna lose during your next season then god help me i will make your dream a reality.

just in general the attitude towards the show on all fronts has put me off of listening to part 41. the breaking point was the john is a child take.

that isn't to say i don't care about john and arthur anymore, it's just that i'm choosing to ignore everything past part 31 (which by the way is THE best episode of the show let's be clear s4 delivered with that one)

basically i'm a suffering john stan in an environment inhospitable to john enjoyers. i won't continue listening to the show. i won't be changing my url. you could see this becoming a hoyoverse sideblog (yes i know niche fiction horror podcasts to chinese fantasy gacha games is a big leap to make but you don't even realise this used to be a mcyt and hannibal blog.)

I'm ready to recive a lot of hate but i'm gonna say it. I want to have Hannibal season 4, but at the same time i don't want it. The 3 seasons are ok like this. I say yes to S4 for an habit now, but rationally i'm not sure i want it. It can be the perfection, but it is just perfection that adds to another 3 seasons of perfection. Or it could be also just a little worse and can ruin it all

Okay gonna make an effort to not repeat myself though I also can’t completely remember what I’ve already said so B)

More emphasis on his time homeless. Like it’s brought up in more when it makes sense and it becomes especially important in ATS and becomes a point of bonding and discussion between him and Gunn.

Dating Buffy is probably his biggest lapse in judgement since wandering into an alley to get laid in the 1700s and it shows. Like he walked in knowing this was a bad idea, saw every red flag and did it anyway. It’s not a reemergence of Angelus behavior it’s Peak Liam Nonsense and it’s left his relationship and feelings towards Buffy very complex and fucked. I think from like BTVS S4/ATS S1 on his primary feeling towards her isn’t really love but guilt. Guilt over how much he fucked up her life and not just as Angelus but you know, as an adult engaging romantically with a teen.

Angelus has more of a Hannibal Lector vibe.

Heavy substance abuse in BTVS as part of coping. When we see him in btvs he’s literally JUST stopped living on the streets in the Depths of Despair. So in btvs S1-2 he’s smoking and drinking heavily to try and make it through another moment on this bitch of an earth. The drinking isn’t as obvious an issue until Buffy’s with him more. Ironically angelus drinks and smokes a normal ass amount because he’s not Lamenting and angel stops doing both in s3 since you know.... fresh outta hell and all that. don’t worry he’s back to chain smoking when he gets into ATS lol. It becomes a Running Issue with him and his Very Human and Lung Dependent Staff.

He listens to the smiths, the cure and similar music. He’s that kinda person. yes. also still listens to barry mannilow. he’s a man of many facets.

He’s Very Normal about Darla. So Normal.

Angel(us) has a Complex around his visual age and how it tends mean that he isn’t given much respect. Part of what fueled his actions back in the day was clout building so he’d get some fucking respect and stop being treated like a baby faced loser.

Circling back to the Buffy thing he realizes in ATS S2 that he perpetuated the cycle of abuse/grooming with her that Darla perpetuated on him. Because Darla 10000% groomed and manipulated him.

Darla and Angel have a Louis and Lestat vibe (but like..... more the new series version of them you know????)

Falls back into Catholicism after his time in hell for the comfort of it. he was born in 1700s Ireland where church was the center of life and Catholicism is like, the most ritualistic version of Christianity. It’s the familiarity and ritual/schedule of it that are comforting/helpful for him, less so the religious stuff. Even so ats needed more catholic stuff in it. Catholic ideology is a staple of angel’s thinking, the bedrock of it really. Literally all this shit about sin and redemption and shit is so aggressively catholic. He’s literally out here looking for a priest who can tell him how many Hail Marys he needs to say to atone for the Atrocities.

Is actually very jealous of Spike later into BTVS/ATS. When Spike’s hanging out with the Scoobies n shit just fine because Spike’s capable of that kind of interaction without a soul while Angel has one and still struggles with it. It’s one of the few things in which he gets jealous of Spike over, how easy it is for him to straddle the soul/morality/dark impulse control chasm. Like it’s very unlikely he’d ever say it out loud or tell the Scoobies but Angel knows just how difficult chip or no chip some vampires would find it to be even remotely civil let alone actually work with them. it frustrates him endlessly that Spike has it so easy.

Yes even as Angel he DOES have an EGO.

Angel(us) is just a metric ton of complexes in a trenchcoat. ATS is just a guided tour through them.

In my brain he’s a mix of Marcus from Deadly Class, Stefan from The Vampire Diaries and Hannibal Lector from the Movies and Shows. Along with some Columbo and Stock Lovecraft Protagonist for flavor.

He’s so pretentious, so lifeless and pallid. He’s like a drive thru attendant with an MFA in fine arts during a graveyard shift.

i know that the shot of will laying his head against hannibal’s chest in twotl is one of the most iconic images of the show but like…. sometimes i think of it and it takes my breath away bc it’s one of the only times that will seeks physical touch from someone beyond touching a hand and bc i think laying your head on someone’s chest is one of the most tender and romantic things that you can do. it’s pure intimacy, and they really gave of us that between two men on cable television in 2015. it flies in the face of generally socially accepted ways for men to touch each other in american culture, and i know we rage against there being no kiss, but that’s bc to us as lgbtq people it’s obvious what’s between them, but i think it was radical in a way. a kiss would have been a distraction to the general public viewers bc all they’d be able to think about is the fact that it’s two men kissing. but will laying his head on hannibal’s chest, peaceful at last….. that is everything bc hannibal is his everything now, all else has been stripped away, and for the first time, in the entire show will rests without guilt in the only place that can offer it to him. not to go all “their relationship is something deeper than romance and sex” but like it really is. obv i’m of the belief that romance and sex is part of their relationship, but that would be nothing without the simple yet heart wrenching core of it — that they are the only ones who understand and see each other truly for what they are and they are the only ones who can change each other until they fit together perfectly. they made a place for each other there in each other, and the embrace is the physical representation of it. nothing fits like a head against a shoulder or an arm around the waist

no no no bc will asking hannibal, “how do you see me?” in episode one is so insane bc he wouldn’t have asked just anybody that. he was not inviting the scrutiny of anyone and i mean anyone. he didn’t want people to perceive him. the way he dresses, his glasses, his biting wit, his teacher persona… they’re all methods of self-protection to keep people from looking too closely. but he asks hannibal what he sees bc he really wants to know, and hannibal, who he has just met, doesn’t even hesitate to tell will something that no one else ever has before. something dangerous, something powerful said with admiration. with a smile.

I became obsessed way too quickly and I'm gonna do nothing about it. 

except I'm feeding my obsession eagerly. 

and i do know people talked about this for ages now but I'm new to the party and need my ramblings 😭

I need to scream about how in love with Will Hannibal was! he was curious from their first meeting and it got worse quite fast. 

like. Hannibal was intentionally fucking with Will's mind. he was curious what would happen. could he pull it off? and Will was a good fall guy for Hannibal's crimes, right? right. yet he cared. in his own manner... but cared anyway. and he kept invading Will's personal space less and less subtly.

and when he succeeded he was like. shit. Will isn't here and I don't like it. so he did what he could to get his beau out. I do count the judge's murder his first confession btw. 

and what did Will do once he got cleared of all charges?... flirted right back. in the same way as Hannibal. they were complementing each other right in front of Jack.

I think he wanted it to be real. he wanted to be all in. and not as deep down as Will himself would like. but unlike Hannibal he wasn't ready to throw his whole life away just yet.

that's why Hannibal bought the whole act. he wanted Will to be his. partner, friend, murder husband. and he could see it was reciprocated. he just couldn't see it wasn't fully reciprocated. hence he felt so betrayed when he realized it wasn't for real on Will's part. his expression changed when he smelled Freddie on Will. 

and he gave Will another chance! he told Will they could just leave now. rude farewells and all that. he was preparing surprise and fuck I was so heartbroken in that moment. that speech before cutting Will just so damn painful to hear 😭

and then we had season three and everyone and their dog just fucking knew! 

the heart! 

hints from like everyone who knew both of them. 

I won't search for you.

the look on Hannibal's face when Will bites off a piece of cook/surgeon face was just 😍

I'm like 75% sure Hannibal wouldn't go through with opening Will's skull. 

sending Dolarhyde after Will's family was jealousy. curiosity and jealousy. 

the thing that gets to me most of all though is the final scene. Hannibal at last gets what he wanted all this time. they killed together. they killed for each other. they killed together to save each other. they were both hurt, in pain… and yet Hannibal just couldn't let Will get killed. and Will was talking about killing Hannibal and yet the moment he got a chance to see him dead? he rushes to save him, to help him with the fight. 

and the embrace. if I remember correctly it was the first time Will was invading Hannibal's personal space. was touching first. laid his head on Hannibal's shoulder (my fucking heart almost stopped at that moment). Will was finally accepting who he is and who he truly wants. and what he is capable of to get what he wants.

yeah, that what could have been s4 stuck in my head and added to my thoughts and feelings.

I feel a lot of things about Damon's want to be human.

Vampirism is forever, so being human is not something Damon ever really thought about. Rose pushed it in because she truly didn't want to kill those people in the parking lot. She's a good person. She kept talking about their reality which kept bothering Damon, and you can see that in his body language. She made him miss being human when there's no point, they still have no idea there's a cure. He views his vampirism as an "it is what it is" mentality. Accept your new life because you can't change it, and he has. He would've been fine after burying Rose, but then Elena stopped in. Humanity is a vampire's greatest weakness because to feel is to be human. It would be human of Damon to feel guilty for Rose's death, and he's not human. That's why he ends up killing Jessica in the road. "It is what it is" and Damon accepts that reality by eating her. The soundtrack is hilarious because it's fitting.

When the cure first came into the storyline, it was during the time Elena was sired to Damon. That's why he told her that was different. It was different. Elena didn't stop to consider what he was dealing with then. Doubts that her love was real. Everyone constantly pulling him down to their level. Damon is extremely affected by the words of others. Every time I think about his character, I think about a conversation in Hannibal.

Words are living things. They have personality, point of view, agenda. They're pack hunters.

Damon is affected by words, and every time someone spits a good one at him, it's quite effective. They might as well be cutting him open. Everyone is spitting them during the sire bond storyline, like pack hunters. He won't speculate whether or not he'll take the cure because they have him believing she only loves him because of the sire bond. Love is the ONLY thing that would ever get Damon to become human because he spent so long being a vampire and actually came to enjoy it. So Elena's love has to be real. We're talking about the same guy that became a vampire to be with Katherine, only to be a vampire in love with a woman that didn't love him. So yeah... he's just gonna get mad and push her away because it's easier for him. He considers being human the most miserable thing on earth because he's back in that road with Jessica. "There's only so much hurt a man can take." Their workout scene is effective because they're written opposite each other with their strength/weakness. Damon simply can't deal, so he goes to where he's strong... with Vaughn. Vaughn has absolutely no idea that Damon built a tolerance to vervain, so the ropes aren't as hard to handle. He's taking Damon to the cure.

When the cure came back in the second time, he pulled an impulsive moment. Impulsivity isn't just anger/rage-driven. It's all emotions. I had no doubt that he'd take the cure, but he honestly had to spend a day looking at everything he was giving up. Like I said of him in season 2, this wasn't something he actually thought about. "It is what it is" and Damon accepted his reality. 145 years he lived as a vampire because that was his reality. He didn't think about a cure so he didn't think about being human. There was no point. Elena was his first human life since he became a vampire, so he truly needed to reconsider. Stefan lived one human life after another and hates being a vampire, so it was never a problem for him. And as they've shown, Damon is as he always was. The only thing he found satisfying at that house was love. Only love would get him to become a vampire. Only love would get him to become human. If not for that couple coming home, he would've kept his fangs. He's showing a reality in that season 6 episode. There's no world without Elena, and at the same time, what his world looked like in 1864 when he thought Katherine died. That's why he wanted to die as a human.
