#hanzo is now a child

Ever since I found out what happened to Hanzo, I've been really upset, not just as a Subscorp fan, but also as a huge Hanzo fan.

When I saw Smoke's ending, I was very disappointed. In fact, Kuai Liang's ending made me sad too. First of all, I would like to ask NRS why Kuai married Harumi if, since her introduction into the story, she has always been Hanzo's wife. If the intention was to give Kuai a love interest, wouldn't it be better to create an entirely new character or let him have a relationship with a playable character?

If they specifically chose Harumi because she is part of the Shirai Ryu, wouldn't it be better to put Hanzo in her place? After all, he was the grandmaster of Shirai Ryu in the previous timeline.

I don't understand why they assigned this role to Harumi, when it could easily be given to Hanzo, who has been a playable character in the franchise since launch. I also didn't understand why Harumi married Kuai Liang. Harumi was Hanzo's wife, this was literally his only role in the story, she was part of Hanzo's construction as a character.

I can't like the fact that they excluded Hanzo from the creation of Shirai Ryu, as the clan revolved exclusively around him.

It may seem silly, but to me Hanzo was disrespected in every way possible. He is one of the 7 original characters and received an animated film dedicated to him. You might think "but all that attention wasn't necessarily given to Hanzo, that attention was given to Scorpion". Yes, I understand your point, but that Scorpion is intrinsically Hanzo. The development of Scorpion stemmed from Hanzo's story about losing his family and clan. In Mortal Kombat X, he stops being a wraith and returns to being completely Hanzo Hasashi. In Mortal Kombat X comics, he restores his clan (and unfortunately sees his clan massacred again). In Mortal Kombat 11, he has an excellent redemption arc as he fights alongside the good guys and tells his past self to give up undisciplined revenge.

So, I ask: why give everything that made Hanzo Hanzo to another character?

I have no problem with Kuai Liang being Scorpion. He can have Hanzo's gameplay, weapon and powers, that's okay. But why erase Hanzo from his clan creation and not allow him to have Harumi and Satoshi?

For example, Mileena was finally able to have a family, now she is loved by her sister. But why can't Hanzo have everything he wanted most (Harumi as his wife and Satoshi/Jubei as his son)?

This seems unfair to me. They gave Kuai Liang characteristics of another character. I know that in the new era, the characters have new origins, but they simply gave everything Hanzo had to Kuai Liang. They could create a really new origin for Scorpion Kuai Liang, but they simply discarded elements of Scorpion Hanzo's lore and gave it to him.

Hanzo became a homeless teenager, probably an orphan, he probably continues to suffer, when he could be happy next to Harumi and their son, commanding the Shirai Ryu side by side.

As someone who has been following Mortal Kombat for years and dreams of seeing Hanzo finally happy, it hurt my heart to realize that having what he always wanted is impossible even in Liu Kang's timeline.

If they don't want to change too many things, they can just say that Hanzo and Harumi are a couple and are friends of Kuai Liang's family. Hanzo and Harumi welcome Kuai and Tomas to Japan and help found Shirai Ryu. The boy that Smoke finds on Harumi's property could be Takeda, who was born from an affair between Kenshi and Suchin, just like in Mortal Kombat X comics.

I understand that a new era shows new perspectives and is different from the previous era, but what happened to Hanzo was disrespectful, it was a disregard for the character.

Kitana is still daughter of Sindel & Jerrod, Kuai Liang & Bi-han remain brothers, Tomas grew up with them like in the previous timeline, Mileena is still dating Tanya, Suchin is still Kenshi's love interest (he mentions her in intro dialogues)... So why can't Hanzo marry Harumi and be Satoshi's father? Why they hate him so much?

I'm indifferent to Hanzo and Harumi as a couple (there's not much to think about them, Harumi is an NPC and all her appearances before MK1 were just flashbacks or mentions). The point is that Hanzo suffered for eons over the death of his lover and his son, he would do anything to get them back, this has been demonstrated so many times. I just want him to have the life he always wanted.

And honestly, was it really necessary to give Kuai Liang a completely sudden love interest? He spent 30 years single, why is this out of the blue?

I'm very frustrated with all of this. Hanzo was reduced to an insignificant role in the story (even though he assumed the mantle of the most famous character in the franchise for 30 years), the writers decided to shove Kuai Liang into a random and unnecessary romance, we will probably never have Subscorp again (yes, I know we have a lot of content from them, there have been three decades of many interactions and moments between Kuai and Hanzo, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't looking forward to having more of them in the new era).

Please do not take this as a criticism of Kuai. I think he was also a victim in all of this. They didn't need to discard elements from Hanzo's old lore and give it to him, Kuai is already a well-written enough character, I even think that his part in MKX comics, where he destroys the cyber initiative and takes leadership of his clan, is the most amazing thing I've ever seen, his transition from a boy who lost his brother to a Grand Master is sensational. He didn't need it. Each character has their individuality, no matter what mantle they take on. For example, when Kuai became Sub-zero after Bi-han's death, he had his own story. Bi-han, now Sub-zero again, appears to have his own story as well, quite different from Kuai Liang's and quite different from his own in Mortal Kombat (1992), Mortal Kombat II and Sub-zero Mythologies.

Anyway, that was just a rant. I have a lot of attachment to Hanzo as a character, so seeing what happened to him is something that really frustrates me.

You’d think he’d get annoyed easily by the crying of the baby, but he simply will just scoop up the small human and cradle them ever so gently.

His nickname for his baby? “puawai iti” (little flower in the Māori language)

He’ll put his baby on his stomach with a hand on them and omg it so adorable.

You catch him staring at you while holding the baby, he’ll lie if you ask if he was smiling. (He 100% was)

Hanzo watches you silently, dark eyes narrowed. You’re talking to an old coworker, giggling about something he had said about your old manager. There’s a bitter taste in his mouth at the sight that he couldn’t explain.

He couldn’t quite remember when he had started to feel this way—maybe it was when he shifted closer to you during the conversation? He wasn’t sure. He was sure that this man had feelings for you, though. It was clear as day by his body language.

You didn’t seem to notice, though. He sighs. That was typical. You were so friendly and loving towards the people you cared about, you had tunnel vision when it came to these things. 

“That’s so funny!” You choke out between giggles, face turning pink from lack of air.

Hanzo suppresses an eye roll. The joke wasn’t even that funny. Just some stupid impression of a character he knew you liked. Not even a good impression, at that.

You shoot a look his way, giving him a big smile. Hanzo tries to return it, but even he knows it looks more like a scowl. His ears perk up when he hears what your friend says next, though.

“So, are you doing anything tomorrow?”

You tilt your head to the side, thinking for a second. “I don’t think so.”

“What if we went to dinner?”

You raise an eyebrow. That seems a little strange—just the two of you? You look over at Hanzo, who’s now scowling clear as day. Oh, you realize. Oh. He’s been flirting with you this whole time, hasn’t he? And Hanzo is clearly jealous.

“I have a boyfriend, actually,” you admit sheepishly.

Hanzo has to bite his lip to keep from smiling. Your friend apologizes, and feeling the awkward tension between the two of you now, decides it's time to leave. You wave him goodbye, waiting until he’s out of earshot to return to your beaming boyfriend.

“What are you so happy about?”

“Nothing, nothing,” but he can’t seem to hide his smile anymore. 

You jab him in the ribs. “Don’t act like you weren’t jealous.”

“Jealous? That man is an idiot.”

“So if I did want to go to dinner with him…?” You tease.

“Not a chance.”

You’re at the bar, ordering drinks for you and the boys. He was hesitant to go out tonight, but with some light convincing from you and Cassidy, he agreed. Of course, now the boys were in a heated battle of who was better at darts. No, not the game of darts. Just the theoretical topic of who would beat who.

That left you to get the next round, grateful to be away from their testosterone for a minute.

“Those all for you, honey?” 

You roll your eyes at the man who had just sidled up to you. “Yeah, I’m actually a binge drinker. Hoping it’ll make this interaction more enjoyable.”

“Damn,” mischief flashes in the man's eyes. “Too bad I like them sassy.”

You hate the way his eyes scan over you, like you’re some sort of prey. You silently wish that Genji was at your side just so this asshole would leave you alone. Hell, you would even settle for Cole at this point.

The bartender gives you your drinks and you hand her a twenty. While you wait for your change, the man tries to chat you up more. You stick to giving him one worded answers, and ignore the passes he’s making at you. It’s not worth it.

Meanwhile, Cassidy had wandered off to the bathroom, leaving Genji to wonder where you were. You had said you were getting drinks, but that was at least ten minutes ago. He scans the crowd, eyes falling on you at the bar next to a tall, burly looking man.

He’s chatting you up, and you just sit there and take it. Genji shoots silent daggers his way, even though you clearly look disinterested. He wants to step in and save you, but he knows you can defend yourself. His chest tightens at the sight.

It isn’t until you try to leave and the man grabs your shoulder tight enough that you wince that Genji decides to get involved. He’s at your side instantly, ripping the man’s hand off of you.

“Back off,” he glowers at him.

The man’s eyes widen in fear at the sight of your cyborg boyfriend, and he raises his hands in defeat. You wrap your arms around Genji’s waist tightly, mumbling your thanks into the fabric of his sweatshirt.

He takes you back to the table, Cassidy still not back from his washroom trip. You wonder if he got his poncho stuck in his fly again.

“Thanks again for the save,” you sip your drink.

Genji shrugs, “I’m here to protect you.”

“How did you even know to come help me?”

“Well,” he says sheepishly, cheeks burning, “I may have been watching him.”

“You were watching us?” You laugh, “were you jealous, Gen?”

He rolls his eyes. “Me? Jealous?” 

You raise an eyebrow.

“I was just looking out for you.”

You giggle, planting a quick kiss to his cheek. It’s clear that he was jealous, but you figured it wouldn’t hurt to let it slide this one time. After all, he did save you.

How exciting! Your first child with your wonderful husband. A sweet baby girl on the way just ready to melt your heart.

If only your husband Tomas could just relax.

He doesn’t have cold feet, thank goodness. He just wants everything to be perfect and for you and the baby to be safe. The thought of losing you scares him to death. Even though you have been keeping yourself in good health and the doctors said you were in perfect conditions he was still being cautious.

He is baby proofing everything and anything. He has a bunch of books on how to support a pregnancy wife and how to be a good father. He went over birthing plans before the first trimester ended. He wanted to be on top of everything after topping you.

Yes, you were nervous as well. You’re becoming a mother. That is a huge commitment. But you took what knowledge you have gained in life and tried your best to stay steady. Drink some raspberry leaf tea, hum to prevent throwing up, exercise and stretch a little to make labor easier, you have tricks and you will use them. If your mama was able to push you out, you can do the same with that baby girl in your belly. You’re a strong woman, you got this mama!

Your due date is soon and Tomas is about ready to scream.

You sit at the table with Harumi, enjoying your breakfast to the best of your abilities. She’s asking how you’ve been feeling and you tell her the same thing about how your back hurts and your feet are sore.

“Ugh, when is this baby gonna come?” You groaned.

Now, the baby will come now. You manifested it.

In that moment your water broke. You thought you had another accident but then you felt a cramp. No, wait, not a cramp, that’s a contraction. Oh lord that is not pleasant.

Harumi was about to run out but you didn’t want to be alone in that moment. She questioned how you will get help then. Then you started to scream,

“THE BABY IS COMING!”

That message went out and into the ears of the many members of the Shirai Ryu.

“The baby is coming!” Kuai Liang yelled

“The baby is coming!” Hanzo screeched

“Oh my baby is coming…” Tomas, did it click in yet?

“MY BABY IS COMING!” There it is.

Tomas sped towards the room you were in. He picked you up with ease and brought you to your bedroom. You were the one who wanted a home birth, this will be interesting.

Tomas is yelling at everybody. Get some towels, get the doctors, get some ice chips, by the elder gods his wife is in labor!

He’s yelling but you really just want him by your side right now. You kept doing your breathing practices to help with the contractions. But breathing won’t help with the feeling that hell itself is opening inside you. You call for him, begging him to come near.

“Oh my sweetest, it will be okay. Just breathe and I’ll make sure you are well taken care of. WHERE ARE THOSE ICE CH-“

You yanked Tomas by the collar of his uniform which cut off his scream. You appreciate everything he is doing but he can tone it down on the screaming.

“Listen, I know everything will be alright. Just please stay by my side. Don’t leave me at all. I really need your support.” You begged him.

Tomas was looking down at you. You are the love of his life and you are about to push out his child. You’re already sweating and panting. He can see that you need him and you need him to stay calm in this moment.

“Alright. I’ll stay here. I won’t move at all. You got this.” He kisses your hand.

You would have smile if it weren’t for the contraction that hit you like a son of a bitch. Better start cursing like a sailor because that will be the only pain relief you can afford right now.

You are so lucky. So very lucky that you were in labor for only an hour. This could have taken a whole day. But now you have a wonderful baby girl in your arms.

This was the most amazing sight to see for Tomas. Now he has two beautiful girls that he loves in his life. He is so grateful to see you well. You luckily didn’t need stitches down there. Just six weeks of rest and it will feel brand new down there.

“See Tomas, everything turned out fine. If you consider having a fussy girl to be fine.” You chuckled as you tried to calm down your somewhat grumpy baby.

“Yeah, everything is fine. Everything is perfect actually.” He kissed the top of your forehead before taking another look at the baby.

A combination of you and Tomas in a seven pound body. She’s gonna grow up with the best dad in the world. Tomas is imagining all he could do with her and how he’s gonna treat her like a princess.

Kuai Liang, Harumi, and Hanzo came in to congratulate both of you. Tomas entrusted Kuai Liang and Harumi to be your baby’s godparents which they were honored.

Tomas placed the baby in the crib so you can finally rest after that struggle. He starts brushing your hair away from your face before you all heard Hanzo say something.

“Oh she looks so weird.”

“WHAT!” Tomas tells again before running over to the baby’s crib. Kuai Liang and Harumi run as well. There’s nothing wrong with her.

“You’re looking at her upside down.” Kuai Liang said before grabbing Hanzo by the arm and pulling him to the front of the crib.

“Oh yeah you’re right that is a baby.” Hanzo thinks he’s an inspector now.

An exhausted sigh leaves everyone’s lips. That’s enough for the day. Get some rest, Tomas will take care of things while you are out.

After notes: I love that man. I love that man to death. I love maining that man. That man would be a good dad. I’ll make him a dad…BAYBLADE BAYBLADE LET IT RIP. Adiós!

Absolutely, positively heartbreaking that we don’t get to see the Lin Kuei ever act causally or have a light hearted conversation that’s beyond their “duty” or “missions” because it’s always, “Revenge” “Honour” “Cyber initiative” “Clan this” “Clan that”. Like you made them brothers and then 5 minutes later made:

- Bi Han actively treat Tomáš badly (Poor Tomáš)

- Bi Han admitting to letting their father die (“a lie”)

- Bi Han and Kuai Liang fighting with Kuai getting scarred (physically and mentally probably)

- Kuai Liang and Tomáš leaving the Lin Kuei (*crying screaming throwing up* it’s ok, it’s ok, I’m ok)

- Starting the Shirai Ryu after running away from Bi Han to Japan (why is Hanzo a child!?!?)

- Bi Han “starting” the Cyber Lin Kuei (I hope it’s just robots and not putting your essence/soul in a machine)

- Kuai and Tomáš fighting alongside Deadly Alliance and Bi Han is nowhere to be found (what was HE doing?!? How long was my boy out?)

Scorpion and Sub Zero are seemly damned to tragic lives but it’s also to the characters who hold those mantles to also suffer sad fates. They can never JUST be brothers. Deadly assassins or Earthrealm defenders, they can’t have normal lives being brothers that have depth but instead are just “evil brother” and “good brother” and now “adopted brother”.

**Also give us Human Cyrax and Sektor, if they aren’t assassins I would assume Bi Han has somewhat more of friendly relationship with those two for them to be so fiercely loyal, give him some friends he has no friends**

Hanzo Hasashi 🔥

Hanzo is very happy when he knew that his wife is pregnant, he is over the moon when he knew about it. He plans for everything, the baby nursery, safe places for the baby away from training dojos, etc.

But one thing made him worry, that is high-risk pregnancy due to health conditions such as being overweight while pregnant and that is normal, but he decided to help his wife with it, such as making nutritious food, and making sure she drinks a lot of water, until she has a normal pregnancy without high risks or anything similar. Until she began to walk around the temple because it hurts her back when she is pregnant and staying in bed, he made sure that she doesn’t tire herself or carry things around so that she won’t hurt herself or the baby!

“Arigato for helping me~ Boo~” She mused, then she kissed his lips.

Kuai was furious at his wife for eating carelessly while pregnant, he threw all the unhealthy foods in the trash bin, He started to make his wife healthy food because he couldn’t trust her after eating junk food as a silly excuse for “pregnancy cravings”.

The day after throwing the junk food, his wife started to have trouble leaving the bed, due to nutritional deficiency, he made her healthy, nutritious food, making tea for her, and making sure she drinks water. After 2 weeks.

She started to recover from it, and she can walk now, but Kuai is still looking after her, he is still concerned that she will eat junk food again, carry heavy things, or do things that are herself.

Same as the prior men, Liu is Pleased to hear that he is going to have an heir, carrying his name and his legacy. Continuing to protect their home world from otherworldly dangers. But happiness was short-lived when he heard that his wife is having a Pre-existing health condition; like high blood pressure, due to genetic reasons. It got hard at first when his pregnant wife was having trouble leaving the bed or doing her daily activities. So he decided to read about high blood pressure and how to treat it, and he came to several solutions, most important ones are cutting down on salt, doing regular physical activity, taking medicines as described, and having a healthy balanced diet.

He told his wife of these solutions, she nodded and she is working on it, after a while, things started to change for the better. His wife can leave the bed, walk, and do her daily activities! She is thankful to Liu for helping her.

For years Kung Lao thought he wouldn’t have a girlfriend or a wife, but now he has one and she is pregnant too! He is happy as any other man whose wife is expecting a child! But his happiness didn’t last because of the high-risk pregnancy that his wife suffers from, she barely leave the bed most days due to it. Kung Lao started to do his research on high-risk pregnancy, his research didn’t help much but he decided to call the doctor, the doctor arrived and examined his wife, He told Kung Lao that she is having a high-risk of pregnancy and that she needs to change her lifestyle and take meds. Kung Lao listened carefully to the doctor and started to work on it with his wife.

At first it was exhausting for both, but after keep on doing what the doctor told them, things are getting better for them, his wife can leave the bed now and doing her daily things.

MK Lads React To Their Child Fighting Their Bullies At School

Erron Black

Barges into the school's office without knocking, twirling an unlit cigarette in his fingers. "Mr Black, thank you for coming in at such short notice," the headteacher starts, "Cut to the chase." he grumbles, while the headteacher goes onto describe the fight that occurred.

"Whoa, it's not my kid's fault they were all talk!" Erron is quick to dismiss any claims the school tries to make about his child, they'd been bullied for weeks and the school did nothing, the kid deals with it the old-fashioned way and suddenly Erron's a bad parent?

To him, it's obvious that those little shits bullying his kid started a fight they can't finish, and now they certainly won't try it again; problem solved!

Liu Kang

Will walk solemnly into the headteacher's office, politely apologising for this incident taking up their time. He'll carefully listen to the headteacher's explanation but will bring up that his child had been struggling with bullying for some time now, and that Kang had made sure the child told multiple teachers who had apparently done nothing.

Kang will reiterate that he's ashamed that this had ended violently, but that he firmly believes the school could've taken more action to have prevented this outcome.

The meeting goes on much longer than planned as Liu Kang insists that measures be put in place for his child's concerns to be dealt with in the school so that this incident won't become a pattern.

Kung Lao

Strolls into the office late with a coffee, looks at his kid who sits forlornly in the chair opposite the headteacher and casually asks "Did you win?".

"Mr Kung, that's hardly appropriate-" the headteacher stammers. Holding up a silencing finger, Lao continues "Let me finish," turning back to his child "Did you win?". His kid could only nod in confirmation.

"That's all I need to know, thank you for your time." He smirks at the exasperated headteacher and sweeps his child from the office to take them home.

Hanzo Hasashi (Scorpion)

He will drop everything to rush to the school, and will hurry towards his child in the office, checking them over for marks and wounds.

When the administration suggests that it was Hanzo's child that started the fight, he sees red. He and his child have come from a very traumatic and violent background, he has been in situations where he's had to fight for his life.

His concern is why the school had allowed a situation where his child felt threatened enough to have to defend themselves to occur. Clearly, there has been a major failure in their safeguarding and Hanzo will be reporting to the district that his child did not receive adequate protections inside the classroom.

When was the last time you heard Winston's voice through the speaker and the overwatch logo shining in your computer screen? When was the last time you fought alongside the former members? As you embraced your weapon after many years of hardship and training the thrill to join your companions grew within you. The rescue team was already deployed on the streets. From afar you recognized your brothers. They were two formidable forces, just like your remembered. Yet, even the strongest individuals might need the extra help. You deflected one of the shots directed to Hanzo; proudly posing after it. -You're welcome!- You shouted, running forward. The Shimada brothers first looked at the bullet on the concrete, then at your figure leaving them behind. -Wait- Genji took a better look; his eyes noticing the dragon pattern on your clothes -It's really you- Now it was Hanzo's turn to see the weapon you were wielding;an old gift from them- No way...- The brothers exchanged a knowing look and followed you. The amazement in the rised;look at you;all grown up fighting by their side. You were quick, but your siblings, of course, were quicker thanks to the experience on the battlefield and the age. They caught up to you. Your blade was about to strike the next enemy, but it was sliced before your very eyes. -Too slow- You heard Genji's voice behind you -You still have a lot to learn- Hanzo hit a sniper hiding in the balconies who was aiming at you -Ah...thanks- Hanzo put a hand on your shoulder and smiled smugly, in his eyes you could notice how proud he was -How about a race?- -Eh?A race?Right now?!- -Yes. The one that defeats fewer enemies pays for dinner- He didn't finish the sentence; the older brothers advanced in a hurry;leaving you behind -Uh?Oh come on!- You ran after them.

I have returned! With Liu Kang headcanons in tow! Also, this is reallyyy long so no pressure to give an in-depth response.

Liu Kang was born in a small village in Henan Province, China. Due to the small size of the village, home births were common with the only doctor being the local healer. His mother experienced complications while birthing him and ended up dying, leaving his father to raise him alone. His parents had already been struggling with poverty before but now that his mother was gone his father had less time to work. Forcing him to choose between work or raising his son, his father chose to care for him.

Kang’s father was a kind man, the kind to give the clothes off his own back away even if he needed them more. He taught him everything he knew. How to forge and prepare food, how to read and write, the best way to clean, how to fix problems around the house. Have a leak? Don’t know if this mushroom is edible? Liu Kang can help! While he knows the basics of how to do these things he is far from a professional.

Eventually, this caught up to him as he had gotten food poisoning from the rotten food, having given the fresh food to Kang. He died when Kang was six. He buried his father next to his mother in the backyard with a wooden stake as a gravestone.

He lived alone for a little over a year before a Shaolin monk passing through town saw no one cared for him and asked if he wanted to come to the monastery. After some convincing (a promise and deal with the village that his home wouldn’t be touched) he agreed.

Kung Lao is a year older than him, being 8 while Kang was 7 when they met. Lao was ecstatic to have someone around his age around and quickly befriended him.

Kang, despite having what he assumed was a normal upbringing, had a lot of unresolved trauma (mostly from his year alone) and didn’t know how to properly navigate social situations. He had unknowingly internalized a lot of his father’s bad behaviors, especially his self-sacrificial tendencies.

Lao being a fairly normal child didn’t realize this and just thought he was a bit strange and quiet. Constantly asking if Liu Kang was going to finish his food Kang, not wanting to disappoint his new friend, would give him what he had. This came to a head when Liu Kang fainted from lack of nutrition and Lao was thoroughly chewed out by a medic for taking food from an obviously malnourished kid.

Liu Kang has stunted growth as an adult only standing 5"6' when he should be around 5"8'. While short, he is very broad. Broader than Kuai Liang despite being a good amount of inches shorter.

He awakened his pyromancy when he was 10 while sparring (read: play fighting) with Kung Lao. Lao had just gotten the upper hand and Kang, in a panic, grabbed his wrist, and the next thing they knew Lao was screaming and clutching his burnt wrist. He got bandaged by a medic and promised Kang he wasn't scared of him and that "a little fire" wouldn't change anything. Even going as far as to encourage Kang to use fire against him.

Kung Lao looks at the burn fondly now, jokingly calling it the one time Liu Kang didn't pull his punches against him.

While both are pyromancy, Liu Kang and Hanzo's fire work very differently. Kang's fire is genetic and is closer to cryomancy in function (but, like with fire instead of ice). Unlike Hanzo, Kang can be burned (though he has a massive resistance) in the same way cryomancers can get frostbite. Also his magic naturally settles in his lower stomach while Hanzo's sits in his chest.

If I were to describe Liu Kang in one word it'd be repressed. He doesn't want to burden others with his feelings and is more than happy to never talk about it. Only ever talking about it once with Lao when they were preteens. And that was because it slipped out, not because he genuinely wanted to breach the topic. He's gotten better with age, but whenever his feelings are singled out he shuts down.

He doesn't believe he should be selfish (even though it's not selfish) and should be grateful for what he has. His father raised him to be grateful and the Shaolin taught him similarly, acting selfishly would be like spitting on their faces. He needs to be grateful to those who helped him, lest they throw him back on the streets.

And that's where the people-pleasing, self-destructive, and sacrificial tendencies come from! I'm moving onto happier headcanons now :)

He has a competitive streak, not that he'll admit it. And not many realize it. Johnny, none the wiser, challenged him to a cook off and Liu Kang took that seriously. An entire event was made with Earthrealm's defenders to judge the food. Honestly, the food was so good it just turned into a vote of whether you like Chinese or Italian food more. Kang won.

For the next few months, Liu Kang would give Johnny this look that he could only describe as smug. He thought he was going crazy because he was the only one who noticed it and everyone he told brushed him off because "Liu Kang's not like that". The only one who believed him was Kung Lao because he too had been on the receiving end of Kang's post-competition smugness.

Accidentally encouraged Sonya's kleptomania and was mortified when he realized it.

He secretly loves dirty jokes, but he never makes them unless he's either drunk, the opportunity is too good to pass up, or he's really comfortable with you. Even then it's rare. If the joke itself doesn't get you, the shock of it coming out of his mouth will.

If you think Hanzo has no brain to mouth filter when he's drunk, then Kang's 10x worse. Worse to the point they started a quote book that includes but is not limited to: "I sometimes wish I could get pregnant, I'd like to experience motherhood." "*Lao explaining something* Lao we literally took each other's virginity-" "*Loudly sighs and walks up to Jax, taking his cigar out of his mouth, then proceeding to smoke the stolen cigar as he walks away without a word.*" He is usually dragged home from the party by Kung Lao or Kitana, because, no, they don't need to know about our sex life.

Loves smoking but rarely does it because he knows it's bad for his health. At this point, he's convinced it's a pyromancer thing because the feeling of smoke in his lungs causes his powers to thrum. Prefers to use a pipe as they create less waste.

His type is long, dark haired, round eyed, people of prestigious descent, with bladed weaponry, who are taller than him. Being dangerous is a fun bonus.

Liu Kang's headband is actually a piece of cloth from one of his mother's clothes that his father gave him to keep her close. He has fully burned ppl for trying to take it from him

Once Kung Lao realized how malnourished and self sacrificing Liu Kang was, he made it his mission to ensure that his friend ate. Lao would steal snacks from the kitchen and hand them to Liu whenever he wasn't paying attention and would also glare at anyone who tried to take food from the younger boy.

Because Liu Kang joined the monastery later than most, it took him a while to catch up to their skill, causing some of the other kids to tease him. Lao, once he learned, started fighting anyone who said a bad word about Liu, leading to them both getting in trouble over it.

It did also lead to their first kiss, with them having gotten in serious trouble after Lao broke a kids arm, so he kept trying to apologize to Liu over it, eventually causing Liu to kiss him to shut him up. As much as Liu Kang dislikes hurting the other monks, he can't deny that it feels nice to have someone so determined to protect him, even from their friends.

Lao is taller than him and consistently gloats about it, but he is also leaner which Liu never fails to point out.

Whenever the two are cuddling in bed, Liu will kiss the burn on Lao's hand as both an apology for it (which Lao always waves off) and an affectionate gesture.

Liu never talks about his feelings, even the positive ones, and it is one of the few things he and Lao fight about, with Lao wanting Liu to be more open so that he can support Liu the way Liu supports him

They also fought when Raiden chose Liu as his champion (and pls someone ask me about my Kung Lao hcs I Beg) bc Lao felt that it was unfair to pick one over the other when they where both equally skilled and Raiden could have easily brought both of them (which would be smarter) and Liu, not wanting the last time he saw Kung Lao to be a fight, kept telling him to trust Raiden's judgement and just refused to engage in the argument.

To this day, they both regret that they parted angry before the tournament, without a goodbye kiss or "I love you"

After finding out about Kitana and Liu having their budding romance, Lao pulled back, thinking he was no longer wanted (man is insecure and he hides that under arrogance) which lead to Liu thinking Lao now hated him for being chosen. They were both pining and miserable for months, leading to Kitana being very confused by the situation and not knowing how to handle it (she's not good at people, she's good at murder)

Kitana and Johnny of all people ended up hanging out and she let slip what was going on and why she was confused by it, leading to Johnny dragging Lao and Liu over to his house for the night and making them sit down and talk, acting as a mediator between them. It took several days but they eventually worked it out and then went to talk to Kitana, leading to them all getting together

Kung Lao and Kitana remained platonic, however, though they did start to get along (I am not married to the idea that Kung Lao and Kitana don't ever also get together, but I do think it would take a looooooong time before they did)(if I wrote a Liulaotana story in that vein, would anyone be interested in that? It wouldn't be any time soon but, yknow, still)

Liu Kang also challenged Jax to an arm wrestling competition and lost, which revealed that he is something of a sore loser. He won't say anything and he'll always be really polite, but then afterwards he's grumpy and throws himself into training for days on end.

On those days, Kung Lao and Kitana will usually team up to pull him out of the training yard and back into bed, helping him work his frustration out in a more productive way.

Loves a good dirty joke and is also shockingly good at dirty talk. Once got Kung Lao off with nothing but his voice and some heavy kissing and he remains smug about that. Kitana refuses to believe that story no matter how much Kung Lao blushes in mortification until Liu does the exact same thing to her.

Not only is there a notebook of Liu's lack of filter, the kombat kids have a gc full of videos of him saying various outrageous shit.

he does enjoy smoking, but Kung Jin got him to try a vape once and he threw up from how much he hated it. Sticks to his pipe after that.

Points out that Kitana and Kung Lao are similar and both his type once and neither of them will speak to him for a week bc of it.

The way we see Hanzo in 3 endings and he looks different in each one (in terms of size and details) tells me they actually hadn't decided on his age yet. He doesn't look consistent in Smoke's ending either. He looks bigger when Tomas catches him first than in the final scene.

But his older brother followed. The older Shimada matched his younger’s speed once he took off from his place in one of the training rooms towards the medical bay. Upon turning the corner towards the sterile door, Hanzo had snatched at Genji’s shoulders, yanking him back. Folding the arms at the elbows, Hanzo grabbed Genji’s wrists and pressed him against the wall.

Both panting, Hanzo glared at his younger brother.

Footsteps could be heard follow, the jingle of spurs had followed, along with the calm calls of Genji’s master.

“You need to calm down,” Hanzo scolded. “What good will you running amuck do for them? In the state that they are in? You could distract them! They could slip up! They could die!”

“Let me go, anija!” Genji spat, attempting to yank himself away from the older Shimada. “I need to see them!”

Instead, he only grunted as Hanzo pressed him closer to the wall.

“Not until you calm down.”

Cole and Zenyatta had rounded the corner, the cowboy out of breath and grasping at his knees, panting like a wild dog. Zenyatta tilted his head towards his student before humming softly.

Hanzo and Cole alike were both shocked to see the omnic suddenly stand on two feet. In their time of knowing Zenyatta at the base, the omnic always seemed to defy the laws of gravity and float everywhere in a lotus position.

“Let go of his wrists, Hanzo,” he calmly advised, placing his metal hand on top of Genji’s tense shoulder. The older brother hesitated before sighing, releasing Genji’s wrists. “He is right, Genji. You cannot panic now for their safety and health. Miss Ziegler and the other medics are doing what they can to help them.”

Just as Genji opened his mouth, the door opened. Ana Amari stepped out, adjusting her eyepatch as a tear slipped from under the black cover. She was shocked to see the four outside, but eyed Genji the most. Her eyes softened before she sighed.

“Ana?” Cassidy whispered.

“They’ve lost a lot of blood. Angela is doing what she can to save them,” she mumbled. She stepped away from the door. “You can sit in the viewer if you need to, but… I wouldn’t stay long.”

Upon hearing those words, Genji rushed inside only to stop dead in his tracks at the window. One way, bright, crowded. A small screen sat in the corner, a view from above looking down on…

Genji felt Cole’s hand on his shoulder, but paid no mind to it as he watched your face.

Stitches across your face, bruised, bloody still and bandaged to all hell. You had caught in an explosion in Dorado, Los Muertos’ doing. You were in a small building when it had happened.

If you were right outside…

Genji didn’t even want to think about what would’ve happened.

He could already see some equipment that took him back to when he was initiated into Blackwatch. Cybernetics.

You had lost a body part… Maybe more. He remembered how devastating it was for him to lose both of his legs and a whole forearm.

“Genj…” Cassidy murmured, “they’ll be alright.”

He could only imagine how terrified you were, how much you were screaming and crying from the agony. Reinhardt had told him you were strong though, even as he and Morrison dug through the wreckage to find you. He saw how the old German warrior was saddened that even he couldn’t stop this from happening.

He felt like he would vomit right there.

Cole and Hanzo stepped outside after Zenyatta waved them off. The two were left in near silence. They could only hear your faint heartbeat fluttering every now and then.

“I know that this is a hard time for you, Genji,” Zenyatta hummed. He placed a hand on Genji’s shoulder and watched the screen with his student. Precise fingers worked on your body, tools were passed and needles dug in and out of your skin, sealing it closed as other needles numbed your body. “I know that you are suffering, that time is cruel to you as to us all during this tragedy. But know that even as time may take away what we love the most and how it may bring pain and agony, know that time will also heal all wounds and time will allow you both to grow. But sadly, all we can do now is wait.”

Genji said nothing, only letting his shoulders slouch. He was defeated. There was nothing the ninja could do now but wait just as his master had said.

“How about we meditate on this and we can discuss how we can help them after they wake up? Perhaps brightening up your shared quarters with some flowers?”

Genji looked to his master before smiling. Zenyatta, all the wiser, knew despite the faceplates blocking his view, that his student would do so at the drop of a pin.

And so the two sat in the viewing room, listening to your heartbeat slowly growing stronger.

Ok but Hanzo trying really hard to keep his relationship with a young Takeda as being strictly student and teacher, trying so hard to not grow attached to the child he’s suddenly found himself charged with, solely focusing on protecting and training the boy for when his father eventually returns for him. Then one night as they sit by a fire after survival training in the woods, his small appearance dozing off and using him as a pillow, a warmth that he hasn’t felt in such a long time washes over him and he realizes: Fuck, he’s a dad.

This kid is his son, has been for a while, and it scares him. It scares him because the last time he had a son, a family, he failed them. He failed to keep them from harm and he paid the price for it. He vowed to get revenge and failed at that too and now his heart has started replacing them because he can’t remember his son’s laugh or his smile or his voice. Takeda’s is the only thing his mind’s eye can conjure. He feels horrible but at the same time can’t help but think of how much his wife and son would have loved this boy as much as he does. Because he does. He really, truly, does love this kid.

And suddenly Hanzo Hasashi is very human again. He’s terrified and vulnerable and will move mountains and start wars for this small child who has been through so much pain already. He’ll do it because Takeda’s his son and Hanzo’s his dad and he will keep any and all harm from finding the boy ever again because that’s what dads do. And when Takeda does grow up to become the youngest member in Shirai Ryu history to ever achieve the rank of Chujin and goes off to help take down a mad god and falls in love, Hanzo beams with pride because that’s his son. Kenshi is the boy’s father, sure, but Hanzo is his dad.
