According to Hellenion's calendar, the Athenian Anthesteria festival in honour of Dionysos was this week. In antiquity it lasted three days, from the 11th to the 13th of the month of Anthesterion. A revival has been celebrated in Athens last weekend. The Anthesteria festival celebrates the beginning of Spring and in particular the maturing of the wine stored at the previous vintage, whose pithoi (storage-jars) were now ceremoniously opened. If you want a fun and entertaining introduction to the Anthesteria (with some brief strap-on action no less!), I highly recommend the comic Anthesteria by @a-gnosis. Beginning with let's start living dangerously (Twilight/Yor, rated T, complete) this snippet is from the first chapter, after something happens which puts Twilight in the position of confronting feelings he may or may not be having for Yor, and how he decides to navigate that...

This is actually the second fic I started in SxF, springing off from a discarded idea from my first. Twilight conceiving of something akin to Plan B/Plan C, to manage events in his own life, naming it The Avoidance Protocol, made me laugh! It also felt fitting: for a man whose successful spywork was predicated on extreme organisation and analytic skill, it seemed natural he would try to deal with unsettling (but ultimately, eventually, good) revelations within himself and his life in the same way. I wanted to aim to be close to canon in tone: no less serious for being wholesome and a bit comedic, and I’m pretty happy with it! Most of my stuff ends up being a character study to a greater or lesser degree and this is definitely no different. Exploring how Twilight might navigating being abruptly confronted with feelings he’d been avoiding was fun and really satisfying.

My dearest Liz, I don’t know if you’ve seen it, but I’m hosting a little blossoms of appreciation for fanfic writers this spring (I can’t link it for some reason but it’s my pinned post on my writing blog just so you can see what I’m referencing!!), so I've come to give you a bouquet of appreciation because you deserve it!! 💐🩷🩷

🌷- I could compliment so many parts of your writing, but for now I just want to give you so much credit for your dialogue and world building. Liz, teach me your ways please 😭🩷🩷 because I’m in awe of how natural your dialogue flows and how real it makes all your characters feel like!!! You have me so immersed and hooked on every word you write!! 🫶🏼🫶🏼 And your creativity with world building is sooooo goood, I love being transported to other universes and you do it so perfectly, as a writer and reader I admire you so much!! 🥺❤️❤️

🌸 - Since we’ve established chapter seven of DHTN is both of our favorites 😌💖 I would love to know any behind the scenes tidbits you would want to share about that chapter 💕 (and my full thoughts will be coming soon, I promise!! 🫶🏼)

🪻- I need you to picture this for a second. Me sitting on a little bench in front of a bonfire in the middle of the woods. A cozy cabin behind me while my family around me chats amongst themselves. Me reading the YOU MAKE ME HAPPY scene on my phone and proceeding to bawl my eyes out at how beautiful it was. Which then proceeded to my entire family asking me if I was okay and all I could do was sob out a no because Jake isn’t real 😭🩷🩷 That scene right there was so beautiful, so emotional, you had me in shambles Liz like this scene is my absolute favorite and you stole my heart with that one officially. 💗💗💗 I will forever be thinking about it, it will be living rent free in my head 24/7, and if there was a way for me to permanently etch the scene into my brain I would do it in a heartbeat!!!! 💞💞💞

💐 - I wish I could give all my favorite writers a real bouquet for all the happiness they bring me and others, and if I could I’d send you the biggest bouquet of all!! ❤️ Your DHTN story has brought my heart so much comfort and happiness in a time where I’ve been going through a lot in my personal life and I appreciate it a million and more times, Liz, truly. ❤️ Thank you for being you and for writing such wonderful stories we have the privilege to read!! 🩷🩷 I’m sending you lots of love, hugs, support, and whatever else you may need!! 🫂🩷

First world of world building? You are god, and you make the rules. Second rule? Doesn’t matter what the rules are as long as you’re consistent and keep track of the rules you’ve established.

Dialogue is super easy imo if you’ve ever had an actual conversation with someone. I write dialogue how I would respond to people if I were in the same situations, keeping in mind any historical or universe context. My biggest piece of writing advice is if you get stuck on dialogue, you need to go back and reevaluate your scene and previous dialogue. Dialogue should ALWAYS flow smoothly (especially if you know your characters as well as you should. That’s why knowing your characters is so important), and if it doesn’t? That probably means that somewhere along the way a character said something that didn’t fit their personality or you haven’t established something enough.

Anyway, as for Chapter Seven, there was so much I wanted to do with it, and I actually cut it a tad shorter than I wanted (saying something for it already being 7k long), but it WAS already pretty long and I wanted it to be one chapter, so….soo la voo as the French say. I really wanted to establish just how much Jake feels for Scout, and while he knows that she’s struggling with choosing between what she thinks her parents would have wanted (duty) and what she actually wants (happiness), he needs her to choose. He can’t wait around for her for forever, especially if she doesn’t choose that happiness in the end. Idk dude, their whole dynamic makes me feel so many emotions all at once, and I can’t WAIT to hear your thoughts on the whole chapter!

Honestly, DHTN is such a special piece to me too because I started writing it during a pretty dark time in my life too, and they helped me through it. Sometimes I do think about rewriting it, if only to flesh it out a little more (especially in the beginning. You can DEFINITELY tell I was struggling with learning how to write fanfic after only writing OG fiction for forever lol).

But anyway, yeah! I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on everything!! 💛
