“So you want to be a director then?”

If they don’t ask the “What’s your favourite film” question after finding out I study film, the only other alternative I’ve found, is for them to ask:

“So you want to be a director then?”

Now, for those who don’t know much about the film industry, there are so many other jobs. Hundreds. Even then, film sets needs people from other industries to collaborate with them for the projects.

Here is a pretty standard flow chart of all the positions needed for a large-scale film project:

For smaller projects you would just narrow it down to the more important jobs and they would do all the work a whole department would. Except for smaller projects there’s not nearly as much work needed to be done so just having one person handling it works out fine.

So back to the question.

No, I don’t necessarily want to just be a director. Sure, directing seems fun and I like taking control of my vision and making it happen my way. But I think I’m more into producing, editing, and script writing.

I’m super organised, love planning/handling everything, and overseeing projects. So producing would be something I’d really like to go into.

I’ve written a few scripts and get pretty good feedback from them so that’s also something I wouldn’t mind pursuing. And I like editing videos but for larger scale projects I’m not sure if I’d enjoy it as much as it does get stressful, tiring, boring, and just downright painful. So although I enjoy it now, I’m not sure if I’d want to just pursue editing. 

So no, I don’t want to be a director then. I don’t know what I want to do because there’s so many areas that I haven’t tried or given a chance yet but I do have a few ideas to start me off.

I'm going to ask you something heavy and you don't have to answer out loud...

How much do you really love yourself? No really, aside from the physical shiit, how much are you supportive of your cells (yourself, in other words) and your spirit?

Medical Moms/Special Needs Parents/Siblings/Family/etc., this question is especially for you:

If you had the condition your family member, son, daughter, etc. had, would you still love and treat yourself, more or less, or would you feel angry and neglect yourself, more or less? Would you ACCEPT yourself the same or would it be different? Would you not have the same spirit, if you lost your ability to express yourself, or be independent, if that's what you're used to, or would you find contentment? (just an example of the severity I'm referencing)

There's no wrong answer here. There is no shame in talking about this either. This is some heavy stuff.

The reason I'm asking, is because I had this thought, that if I were any different, physically or mentally, lost a leg or arm, an eye, my vision, my hearing, my intellect or cognitive ability, I'd still try to learn to love and accept myself

.....and if you really think about it, there are some health conditions that cannot be healed or aided, so in some cases, I'd have no other choice😶

That is so hard to think about, isn't it?

That's why I asked the question.

....because a lot of folks dont think outside their comfort zone. It's hard to imagine, right? But it can happen. It's the realest question you might ask yourself, with all the privilege you might have.

There are still plenty of parents and/or family who have a hard time accepting these type of situations. I like to reiterate the "what if it were you?" question.

If it were you, and your life was born with a special condition, that was out of your control, would you still do what you could, in order to live your best life?? Because as a human being, did you know it's your nature to do so?! How lovely is it that it is nature way to love ourselves unconditionally, in order to survive and thrive in this life.

I know for a fact that's all my little Zaza is trying to do, if I don't know anything else.

We are all just working with what we have.

“What’s your favourite film?”

Person: “What do you study?”

Me: “Film.”

Person: “Oh, that’s so cool! That seems like a really fun thing to study.”

“So what’s your favourite film?”

The amount of times I’ve been asked this question...

I never have the right answer either. It’s such a personal question now because what they really want to know is, “who are you” ... “what is your vibe” ... “what kind of films is this girl going to make” ... “who do you want to be”.

The pressure is insane. I’ve gotten so used to being asked this question after people find out what I study, that I come to expect it now. My body tenses up, I take in a deep breath, ready to start answering before they’ve even asked.

My answer is always "I don't have one but here are some of my top ones I really enjoy..." or, to be honest, I feel as though I'm more of a TV show kind of person. So sometimes I'll tell them that and give them my top TV shows. But I always feel like I'm under a big microscope because it's become way more of an important question since I started studying film at university. My answer actually matters more than for just conversation.

If they don’t ask that question after finding out what I study, the only other alternative I’ve found, is for them to ask:

Lecrae Tribute to Ravi Zacharias to be with Him in His Life

Once an atheist, Christian recording artist Lecrae credits Ravi Zacharias, a beloved apologist and preacher, with the resources to answer "hard questions."

“What in the world ties a black kid from hip hop culture to a scholar from Delhi, India?” In a Facebook post published Monday night, the rapper asked this question. Lecrae revealed that he would always end his concerts and go back to his tour bus, where he would spend hours poring over videos and lectures from Zacharias. "As a former atheist and skeptic, now believer, I wanted to have answers to hard questions from my peers in the culture who did not believe," Lecrae wrote. "'Why is the planet doing evil? 'Where is God in the midst of woe and injustice? 'In front of prestigious universities, I will absorb his lectures and establish insight into my own language.' "I had answers to demanding questions because of Ravi Zacharias," he said. "Who would have thought that a tour bus full of young rappin's city kids would go in between watching the political arguments and lectures at the hip hop awards? I just want to give his roses to this guy, while he is still here. I know that God is likely to take him home soon, but I am glad he is been here all my life.

Lecrae's post about Zacharias follows reports that the well-known itinerant speaker was sent home with a grim prognosis after surgeons found a rare type of spine cancer — sarcoma — to repair his back during a March operation.
