Almost 2/3 of zayn's songs are explicit and about sex, niall has songs about sex too, I don't even need to explain Liam's, 1d also has so many things that in a subtle way are about sex eg BSE, love you goodbye, temporary fix and etc, it's so hypocritical of this fandom that harry got so much hate for watermelon sugar, cause it's actually a very beautiful heartfelt song???? Like I don't get all the fuss, when for example for medicine the entire fandom loved it.

Ohhh okay i get what you mean, i hope i can articulate my thoughts well on this because i have thought about it before, and because it's not something that i really enjoy usually. for WS in particular form what i've seen ppl didn't really hate the song at first? Like the hate for the most part came after the music video and was mostly directed at it. imo this is because people gave it a more vague meaning at first and them the mv came out and really pushed the oral sex metaphor and kinda 'forced' people to see the song that way, which brings me to my second point:

I think the main reason why people react so differently to the sex references depending on who is making them is because of how those references/content is presented and because of the way it is tied to that specific person. For example as you said, zayn makes very explicit songs yes, but you don't see anywhere things like 'icarus falls is about having sex and feeling sad' , the sex is not there to reinforce an image, it's not pushed in your face, it's just there because it's there, because zayn probably wanted it to be there. The same with niall, HW is more fun and sexy than flicker but you can tell niall himself is presenting himself like that too for this new era, and again, it comes across as natural and organic, and not overpowering because articles are not so focused on it and neither is niall. There are a lot of 1d songs about sex but most of the discussion/jokes/talk about it comes FROM the fans, it wasn't pushed ON us, WE decided how to engage with this content. I think that's the main difference, at least for me, when engaging with sexual content coming from the members of 1d, i don't really like when it comes from harry because it's always so pushed, this doesn't mean that i think they're forcing him to do it or that he doesn't like it, i'm just talking about how i feel about it. And it's not only this song in particular or the mv but it's the piling up of all these little things, like the articles talk about the songs, the way the media around harry sees harry and his fans, etc... the whole thing makes me feel like there are things that i'm supposed to feel and ways that i'm supposed to engage with this type of content coming from him and that is the main thing that annoys me and prevents me from enjoying it. I like no control, temporary fix , wolves, because i feel like I'M the one deciding what to do and think!

Also with harry in particular i think people are also tired in general of his womanizer/ sex crazy kinda image, which i get because honestly i find it boring and annoying.

Ultimately i think what i personally dislike the most is the feeling that i'm supposed to react to things in a certain way and that i'm supposed to engage with content in a determined way and it's all very annoying and also can feel kinda isolating if you're just not feeling like that you know?

I've seen a lot of ppl here trying to escape that by forcefully putting their interpretations on songs which i think it's totally great! Or just flat out ignoring everything, nothing wrong with it! I just wish that wasn't needed.

This is all very personal to me so i don't know if many people can relate but i hope i made sense!

I’m not sure that the show will move the needle for Harry’s public image very much. Being Executive Producer on the show lends Harry’s tacit agreement to the show’s premise. One can sell as many “Treat People With Kindness” t-shirts as one wants (again— a commodification of a good moral principle). It still doesn’t negate the damage done with dated, misogynistic humor.

Ben’s body of work isn’t promising for coherence, originality, or creativity, but he isn’t writing or directing the show, so we should reserve judgment, despite the show’s tepid trailer. We can give Harry the benefit of the doubt, too— but money does change things.
