You and Harry have been dating for almost 2 years. Both of you never felt so much love, comfort and connection in any of your previous relationships, so that I was easy for you to say that the both of you belong together. For the past few days, Harry and his band mates had been writing new music for his second album. Obviously, they felt a lot of pressure, as he wanted his next song to be just as good and adored as his previous and everyone knows how much of a perfectionist H is. Thats one of the things you adore about him, he always puts so much love into everything he does, making sure it turns out just fine. Usually, he would always talk about their writing sessions as soon he came back to your shared home, but for the last few days it’s been awfully quite. But not in a bad way! It felt like he was watching every breath you took carefully, blessed to have you in his life, smirking and laughing quietly when you felt back in your habits he loved so much about you. In some ways you were wondering whats going on with your babe but on the other hand it was something new and interesting. Little did you know what his actions were all about. Not until he came back from work with a tiny vinly in his hands. “I wrote this song and I want you to be the first one to hear it before it gets sent off.” was all he said before giving you a short kiss on your mouth. Smiling and feeling loved, you went to the old vintage record player in your living room, that you adored so much and put the vinley on. Soft guitar sounds started to fill the room and Harry came up to you, hugging you from the back. Slowly, moving to the amazing sound you were resting the back of your head on this chest. When he started to sing you immediately knew what all past few the silent days were about, he was writing a song about you. About the way you moved, the way you live life the fullest about how you wrap him around your fingers, everyday. As the new favorite song of yours came to an end, tears of joy were running down your cheeks. “I love you so much (Y/N), please don’t ever leave me!” he kissed your neck.

Harry Styles: the gay icon gay women deserve.

If you walk into an arena to watch a Harry Styles concert, you might think you came to a pride parade instead of a concert. His fans bring pride flags (all kinds of them: the gay, the lesbian, the bisexual, the transgender and the asexual have all been spotted) and wait excitedly for the moment when Harry snatches the flags for himself and runs around on stage with them. To understand the Harry Styles that his LGBT fanbase knows and love, it is crucial to know both his path to a successful solo artist and how he is perceived by the general public. Before his solo career, he was a member of the boyband One Direction. Boybands (and their members) have historically occupied in a curious position in popular culture. These groups, mostly composed of early twenties men, have been openly marketed towards a young female audience (who is presumed to be straight). The magazines write about the perfect date for each member and which actress the cute one is dating - all in a clear effort to sell them as romantic/sex icons for teenage girls. However, despite all of these efforts, these boybands are also adored by the LGBTQ community. While the appeal to gay men is more understandable, the bulk of the LGBTQ fans, at least in Harry Styles’ case, is composed of lesbian and bisexual women. Through analyzing four of his songs, I will shed a light on why this appeal exist and how he has become one of the iconic gay icons of the 21st century.

The first two songs that have become an important gay anthem for his LGBT fans were written by Harry Styles during his time in One Direction. The song “Happily” is featured in the third album of the band and “If I Could Fly ” is part of the fifth album. To understand the importance of these songs, some context is needed. A significant part of the One Direction fandom (the word used to describe the collective of fans) believes that Harry Styles was/is on a long term relationship with another bandmember, Louis Tomlinson. This belief is held mostly by the LGBT fans and it has shaped the fandom from the very beginning (this video - which has been watched over five million times - provides a good introduction on the topic). Many LGBT fans were introduced to the band by hearing about this belief. In different, and often controversial and unconvincing ways, both Harry and Louis have denied this relationship. However, the fans, including myself, even after four years of the band break, still believe in the existence of their relationship (the dynamics of this group are extremely interesting but are unfortunately outside of the scope of this essay).

In both “Happily” and “If I Could Fly” Harry writes/sings directly to his lover without (or with few) pronouns. Both songs invoke a common theme of certitude about their relationship while facing outside struggles to maintain this relationship. In “Happily”, Harry directly addresses how their relationship is viewed: “I don’t care what people say when we’re together/You know I wanna be the one to hold you when you sleep/I just want it to be you and I forever”. For straight listeners, this verse may not seem like more than a common love declaration in a pop song. However, for LGBT fans this verse is understood as a clear and loud representation of the queer struggle with acceptance for their relationships. Moreover, Harry is sending a strong optimistic message about queer love: “I don’t care what people say when we’re together”. In a pop culture that still often portrays queer love stories as tragedies or unattainable desires, hearing a song showcases a fairly happy queer love story is important for young LGBT people. Later in the song, Harry also plays (as he does in many songs as we will see) with the common listener’s assumptions about his sexuality: “It’s four a.m. and I know that you’re with him/I wonder if he knows that I touched your skin/And if he feels my traces in your hair”. A straight listened will likely assume he is jealous of another man who is with his female lover. However, the lover Harry is talking to is not specified as a woman so these sexually charged lyrics are understood by his fans to be within the context of a gay relationship.

In a distinctively sadder tone, “If I Could Fly” showcases another side of queer love: the understanding that that relationship is often the only social space where LGBT people get to truly be themselves. While many are lucky to have LGBT spaces and friends, it is still not the case for everyone - especially those in the closet. When performed live, this song seems to be personal and even perhaps painful to him. He sings: “For your eyes only, I’ll show you my heart/For when you’re lonely and forget who you are/I’m missing half of me when we’re apart/Now you know me, for your eyes only/For your eyes only.” These verses seem to say that he is himself only when he is with his lover or that only his lover truly knows him. Again, for his LGBT fans this song is undeniably about feelings and experiences that are unique to queer love within the context of our society. During his first tour as a solo artist, Harry performed this One Direction song in a separate B stage alongside one of his own love songs (the small stage was quickly nicknamed “the Boyfriend stage” by fans). During one of his London shows (linked above) the fans used their phones to form a pride flag across the arena. As he sang “I can feel your heart inside of mine”, his fans held a pride flag and sang back to him “I feel it/I feel it.” An incredibly powerful moment to us and to him (as you can see in the video).

In 2017, Harry started his solo career post One Direction. His first album cycle (including album release and tour) lasted until 2018 and it included over a million albums sold and 69 sold out concerts across the world. His career has been marked by his refusal to share anything substantial about his personal life outside of what is said in his songs. Harry talks through his actions and lyrics more than through any interview. Further, his solo career has also been marked by his fashion choices. He is the face of several Gucci fashion campaigns and the first gender neutral perfume. On tour, he was usually on a two piece suit with an extravagant pattern or in a creative variation of it like this prince outfit. But by far the most unique part of any Harry Styles concert is pride flags that flood the audience everywhere he goes. During every concert of his tour he grabbed some of the flags and ran around the stage. This movement to bring pride flags is a culmination of four years of efforts from his LGBT fans. During the One Direction tours a few brave fans brought pride flags, in a movement named Rainbow Direction, and were often met with hostility from other fans. It wasn’t until Harry started grabbing the flags and, in his fashion “saying without saying” that he supported and liked this trend, that the pride flags became accepted by the larger fandom.

Two of his solo songs deserve special attention for their importance for the queer fans. The first one is “Two Ghosts”. This song, like the ones mentioned before, is believed to be about Louis Tomlinson. The song was released as part of his 2017 album but was written in 2013. During that time, the Louis/Harry belief was first partially addressed when Harry and Louis, who were self declared best friends who lived together, completely stopped interacting with each other. This arrangement was in place until the last day of the band almost 3 years later. In a five person group, it was painfully obvious. “Two Ghosts” is believed to address this new public arrangement: “Sounds like something that I used to feel/But I can’t touch what I see/We’re not who we used to be/We’re not who we used to be/We’re just two ghosts standing in the place of you and me.” Styles then goes on to repeat “We’re not who we used to be” multiple times. Regardless of one’s belief on that relationship, when the song was released, Harry’s queer fans were stunned with how raw the song was. While being a celebrity in that situation is a mostly unrelatable problem, the feeling of not being able to express queer love freely is shared by many. In particular the lyric “I can’t touch what I see” shows a sadness and struggle that is known to many, if not all, queer people.

The second song is “Medicine”. This is Harry’s most openly queer song and also his most sexually charged. The second verse of the song boldly states that he is gonna treat his lover like a gentleman - a line that is hard to be interpreted in any other way but that his lover is a man. The song goes on to describe, by using the metaphor of taking medicine, the singer’s sexual desires with this person: “Here to take my medicine, take my medicine/Rest it on your fingertips/Up to your mouth, feeling it out/Feeling it out.” These lyrics are more explicitly sexual than any of his other songs. In a fan loved moment, Harry sings “I had a few, got drunk on you and now I’m wasted/And when I sleep I’m gonna dream of how you -” and the fans complete the (supposed) lyrics by screaming “tasted”. The song then comes to its most talked about verses: “The boys and the girls are in/I mess around with him/And I’m OK with it”. These verses exemplify what queer women love on Harry: in an unprecedented hint on his sexuality Harry is said in the same breath that he says is okay with it. Again, the reassurance that it is okay to feel this way. It is crucial to highlight an unsurprising detail about this song: it was never released as a track, he only performs it live. These lyrics, therefore, are not in the canon of what non fans know about him. Harry constantly seems to want to share his experiences in some contexts but not others - a feeling entirely too familiar to his queer fans.

During his concerts, Harry talks to the fans close to him from the stage and he seems to have talent (perhaps a radar) for choosing gay fans. This video contain most of the moments mentioned here. He helped multiple fans come out during the concert, he helped a girl find a girlfriend and even said that “everyone is a little bit gay”. His connection with his lesbian and bisexual fans is evident to anyone who follows him. In a very tangible way, this connection was not supposed to exist. Harry was, and still partially is, marketed as a sex symbol who girls are supposed to want to sleep with. His fanbase is supposed to be straight women that daydream about having a chance to date him. Of course, this is an incredibly sexist and condescending way to treat women and Harry has never been okay with this framework. Considering his silence on most topics, he has been loud and clear about his respect towards women and his love for his mostly young female fanbase: “Who’s to say that young girls who like pop music – short for popular, right? – have worse musical taste than a 30-year-old hipster guy? That’s not up to you to say. Music is something that’s always changing. There’s no goal posts. Young girls like the Beatles. You gonna tell me they’re not serious? How can you say young girls don’t get it? They’re our future. Our future doctors, lawyers, mothers, presidents, they kind of keep the world going. Teenage-girl fans – they don’t lie. If they like you, they’re there. They don’t act ‘too cool.’ They like you, and they tell you. Which is sick.“ And this sentiment, if his on stage interactions are anything to go by, seem to be even more clear about his gay fans. It is not to say that every straight fan wants to sleep with him or that he loves them any less. But there is a clear understanding by him that there is something special about the LGBT fans that, despite a marketing that was not meant to appeal to gay women, stood by him for now almost a decade. Show after show he has made it abundantly clear that this relationship is just as important and sacred to him as it is to us.

Because I am Jane Eyre and because FEMINISM!👊 Mia Wasikowska/Fassy version is my favorite because they are amazing and the adaptation isn’t shit, but the 1943 version is also my favorite because it is the most bizarre adaptation and Orson Welles and Joan Fontaine are the 2 most attractive people chosen to play unattractive people ever😂

Ok…I love it because this is probably one of the best movies ever to challenge racial stereotypes of the western genre, but can we also talk about how southern gothic it is that Django sees Hilde everywhere and then she dissipates seamlessly into the scenery like asfhflgl DJANGO and SCHULZ are some BAMFs. 9. Moonrise Kingdom

The mother effing dry as the desert witty ass humour in this movie gives me life. Wes Anderson is a visionary …this direction. Ugggg.

Why I ship the shit I ship

So,I know that shipping in general is a fangirl’s main thing.Basically,it’stwo people or characters that have a chemistry, fanon or canon that makes you super happy and giggly. I know that shipping characters is usually fine,because they aren’t real people, though people do fight over differnet characters.Then, there is shipping real people in the real world. I understand why morals are questioned, but if it does not directly affect you, then don’t bother. I realize that it’s hard to avoid people who ship IRL people, but that does not give you permission to be an asshole. 

Fandom communities are wide, broad and very diverse. You have artists, writers, bloggers, people who do all three, people who spectate, newbies, veterans and crack shippers along with many variations. It’s designed that way so that everyone feels like they have a place in a community. Fandoms are a great way to meet new people, observe writings from young writers and look at incredible art from all kinds of sources. So, why should a ship ruin your time.

I have many ships,as I’ve been in many differnt fandoms. Some, I stayed in a little but left, due to a new interest. Others, I am still in because I am so involved in the fandom or that I can’t get enough of it. Some fandoms I was in or currently are in right now, are: Thomas Sanders, Jacksepticeye, Crankgameplays, Markiplier, Teamiplier, Hetalia, Free!, Attack on Titan, Harry Potter, Supernatural,Sherlock, Doctor Who and at one point, Twilight. As you can see, almost all of them contain real people, whether actors or not. I know for a fact! that YouTube especially, is kinda new in the whole Fandom thing, as it can be hard to create and maintain a captive audiance and keep that audiance to create a fandom around that. But,with it’s growing popularity, YouTube fandoms are growing bigger. And with bigger fandoms, come shipping fangirls. 

C’mon though, there are a lot of collabs and there are quite a few that make you smile, because there is a chemistry between the people. Little chemistries that blossom into amazinga nd pure friendships. These friendships lead to meeting IRL and collabing together in the same location. (I’m mainly talking about gaming channels here). Fangirls love a good chemistry, and they are pretty fricking good at finding a quality chemistry and blowing it out of the water. Soon, there’ll be fanart, fanfictions and posts about these encounters, ranging from fluff, to angst to smut and lemons. We all know it happens, so deal with it. 

Then, come the realists, who start bashing ships with facts. “They aren’t gay”, “They have girlfriends” and “Why are you writing abotu REAL people??” So what?! It’s make believe and for fun anyways! FanFICTION! Fiction is not real / parallel universes, where this stuff can become a reality. Trust me, we know it’s not real. That doesn’t mean we can’t dream and create universes to make it real. 

But, that is not what this is about. You all probably know this, since I’m writing this on Tumblr. This is about my ships (which I will list a majority of them) and then I will (try) to explain why I ship it the way I do without a lot of words.

My ships include the following:

YOUTUBE:

Phan (YT) This ship is one of the most famous, but I don’t ship it as most do. I view this glorious ships as the cutuest and purest brotp ever. I’m talking plaonic I love you’s, forehead kisses and hand holding. This ship for me is fluff! Because they’ve known each other for a long time, I don’t doubt they tried dating, but I can’t see it working out. I feel with their bond, it’d be awkward for them, so they break up, and just stay as incredibly close friends.

Jelix (YT) A semi-rare pair of YouTubers jacksepticeye and Pewdiepie. This is also just an incredible brotp for me. Any collabs they do are super fun and engaging and they almost seem like brothers. The playful fighting and insults remind me of a brotherly feel to their relationship. I know that Jack is dating Signe and she is an incredibly badass girl with killer style, and I ship Septishu so hard! They are absolutely adorable together!!

Septishu (YT / IRL ) Oh. My. God! I can’t even begin to explain this ship. It’s super cute and super canon! Wiishu is an INCREDIBLE person, with the gall to keep up with the loud tennis ball that is Jack / Sean. She has an amazing sense of style and her make-up is always gorgeous. How can ANYONE hate this incredibly adorable Danish badass?! Plus, she has her own YouTube! Any videos she does with Jack are incredibly cute and sweet. 

Tythan (YT) This one will garuntee get me in trouble... Tythan. Oh, the newest (kinda) ship of Ethan from Crankgameplays and Tyler from Teamiplier. Two guys who (maybe?) live(d) together and appear quite frequently on Markiplier’s channel. But, there is a chemistry between the adorable Baby Boy Blue and Stone-Face Tyler. With subtle glances, a couple hovering incidents and a bunch of adorable interactions, how can you not like these two boys. They botha re incredible and sweet people who just wanna spread kindness. How I ship this,I still don’t know. It’s  mixture of lovey-dovey romance with platonic friends who just get along great! I just like seeing my bois together!

Crankiplier- A weird pair, but I like the weird ones. Basically, it’s just Mark and Ethan as their current relationship is. They get along great and Mark has said that Ethan impresses him, with his perservearance of not giving up on his YouTube channel. Plus, thei have great laughs together and their collabs are hilarious! 

Cranksepticeye- Another odd-ball. I don’t know why I like this pair. It’s just, fitting? Both loud bois with colored hair with a dedication to making their fans happy. Plus, they have somewhat similar mannerisms, like constantly brushing hair out of their eyes, and their loud and hyperactive personalities, along with steadfast morals. To me, it’s a mirroring thing and besides, my bois are precious. 

Septiplier-No, THIS one will definitelly get me in trouble... Okay, this originally wasn’t going to be on here, but I ship this. Now, before you get your panties in a twist, let me explain this. I love the friendship of Mark and Jack. The banter and the playful jabs are so funny. They have girlfriends and I only ship them as friends. Much like Tythan. The dynamic chemistry between them, plus the banter, their Prop Hunt videos and general collab videos are hilarious. I did ship it romantically at one point, but not the smutty lemons and that. Eck. I like pure things with dynamic characters that have great chemistry. Septiplier is dead, but their friendship lives on in my heart, because to me, that’s all they ever would be. 

HETALIA: I should say this. All of these ships are based around Fanon only, as I’m not a fan of the show itself. I really love the fanon universe that’s been created.

RusAme- Shut up. I like a good, conflicting pair! A lot of good angst, and headcanons. These two are such a power couple.

FrUK- SIBLINGS!! I don’t ship this romantic. Their pasts are too deep and troubled for them to be romatically in love in my book.

Spamano: A fiesty Italian matched with a lovey-dovey Spaniard who has a great ass? Sign me up! A pair tha’s dynamically opposed, hell yeah!

Drarry- Shut up. I can’t help it! I’m a slut for contradicting characters finally resolving all their hate for love instead, finding out that being gay is okay, and that they are happier. (I’m also a slut for 8th Year Drarry. Huh! be still my beating heart!)

Harmony- Come on! These two get along like brother and sister. Hermione always worrying about Harry, Harry making sure Hermione has some fun. He usually sticks with Ron on arguments, but he does side with hermione when Ron’s being and arse. They watch out for each other, and in thd Deathly Hallows, when Ron leaves and Harry tries to cheer her up? That was super pure and I love their relationship. 

Ginny X Luna- Cute lesbians both underestimated by others? YES!! Luna helps Ginny be a little more girly and Ginny helps Luna with her hexes. Ginny definitely is the protector, but Luna’s in Ravenclaw for a reason. She’s super witty, and exceptionally clever, with music. Plus, Luna and Ginny having sleepovers where they braid hair and just chatter are my achilles heel!

WolfStar- What? Come on! I love Maruaders so much! I would pay a lot of money, to have a Maruader’s universe series, written like Casting Moonshadows. That fic is a blessing on this Earth!! Plus, the YT group, Mishcief Managers have a to die for Marauder’s universe and even a killer Drarry storyline!

 and some general s15 critical thinking 

Took a while to gather up all my thoughts and apparently that’s for a reason because this quickly became longer than expected

As a ot of folks have already pointed out the fight scenes were shall we say, off. And I definitely agree with that.

Obviously it’s really hard to fight with the choreography Monty had and the further away we get from that the more I miss it. (Rest in peace good sir) His style in S8-10 style was exaggerated and fast but still had a lot of weight to it and the environments and assets were used in cool ways. S12-13 on the other hand was a lot more grounded, heavier and slower, but hits still had a good amount of impact and the combatants used their invironment like so ‘twas still cool.

S15? Individual Maya animation shots have been pretty nice and blend in better than during the Chorus arc but for a first fully animated fight sequence this was preeetty baaddd. Very exaggerated, but too slow and way too floaty. Doesn’t know what it wants to be. 

While the choreography going faster or slower depending on the music was an amusing gag (The Harry Potter bit was so jarring but also hilarious where did that idea even come from jfc) it is hardly enough to mask how sub-par the fighting was compared to what we’ve had before. There were a couple of good shots but for the most part it was pretty :I and unimpressive.

For example Carolina climing on the warthog mid-air needed to be a lot snappier. While throwing Lorenzo was funny, that one was too fast and too Team Rocket-y. Throwing back Cronut’s missile was funny, but made no sense. Dropping a crane kick like a second after being on solid ground made no sense. Then there’s the obvious fact that neither Carolina nor Tex fought the way they usually do and that there was basically zero impact on contact. The fighting styles and the stuff made no sense I guess can be written off as Temple being an exaggerating and/or flat out unreliable narrator but that doesn’t really help the animation issues I’m afraid.

Another thing that I’m also somewhat concerned about is Jax. While I did and I guess still do like his genre-savviness, I really don’t want spouting one-liners to be all he is there for. Boy needs to actually do something with his foresight or his thing goes really stale really fast.

Reading the summary for this ep I was mildly concerned Carolina was going to Desert Gulch with York because while I do love the guy, having him be the only referenced dead freelancer would be sucky. So that issue was averted.. with Tex.

Soooo first of all it’s painfully obvious (and understandable) they didn’t get Kathleen for this which I guess isss.... fine and again, understandable (RT were very lucky Tex’s voice mod was established very early in the series eh?) (Also on that note it also seems like John Marshall Reed wasn’t available either? Shame, but the replacement didn’t do a bad job per se)

Second of all is my bigger grievance with this, which is that if Temple’s story is brought up to Carolina and somehow it was pretty accurate (Carolina was pissed dring PFL, we know, but I’m not gonna take Temple’s narration at face value), this would make it the third time, in succession, throughout three major storyarcs, that Carolina has to deal with her negative emotions towards her own past actions and Tex. Settling her inferiority complex has already been a part of her arc she and something she and Epsilon talked about several times and she already attemped reconciliation with Sharkface in S13 (Sharkface wasn’t up for it and I’m pretty sure Temple ain’t either). Of course letting go isn’t easy (goes in the family that one) but is really recycling it.

I do love how the season recognizes how far Tucker has come over the course of the series. However, that just makes him being dumbed down for the sake of some jokes and especially falling for Temple’s deceit right after Felix happened even worse. Boy better wake up and smell the dirt soon. Maybe if VIC is still on the computer and Tucker notes Dylan hasn’t come back yet?

When it comes to romantical Carwash I’m just gonna reiterate my opinion on it (No shiphate here, just me being critical of the canon writing):

Personally as an ace I’d just love if every now and then a character’s happy ending wasn’t tied to starting/being in a relationship with someone. This goes double in this case because 

a) the two have been on-screen together for 5-6** seasons now without previous romatical implications aside from like one joke-y line by Caboose or Donut can’t remember

b) Carolina being tied to a guy at every point of her story suuuucks

c) Fans can write it better so it doesn’t come out of nowhere and Wash isn’t just a replacement for York

Nevertheless I think I’m going forward cautiously optimistic because there’s still a good amount of time for things to happen.... and more than a lot of things haven’t gone as expected sooo there’s hope yet maybe

Also "But the thing that I love about chess is that sometimes, Pawns kill Kings“ while a bit corny, still a good line to end the ep on and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t going to think about using that in the future

This is hard because sometimes I love movies that I associate them with other people and that’s why I love them. BUT I do have ones that always make me happy and I could watch them all again and again.

Lord of the Rings - Fellowship especially, when we meet all the characters and get ready to go on this big adventure with these tiny hobbits who are so loyal and this huge world aaahhhh it makes me emotional

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban - Sirius, Buckbeak, Time Travel, when the art and direction style changed up and things got a little darker and bigger. I love it.

Beauty and the Beast - I could watch this forever. It makes me so happy, it’s romatic and beautiful. 

DBZ Battle of Gods - Honestly. Best movie.

Coraline - I saw this four times at the cinema becasue I loved it that much. The music, the art, the characters, the story, it’s so magical and unique.
