“The One Direction ones honestly— well, there’s two things: I have certain songs that I like more than others, but what’s been a challenge at times was, [pauses] let’s just take maybe the cheesiest of our songs, What Makes You Beautiful, you kind of have to do that as it was. I couldn’t re-invent that and make it “cool”, I don’t think it really exists in a “cool” realm, a song like that. It’s a slightly different thing. It’s more fun. There’s definitely a process of taking a One Direction song and thinking: ‘which of those could I imagine in my set?’”
So this is my thought. I don’t think Louis was dissing Harry in this answer. He was talking about himself, about his music style, about the vibes of his shows. And what he is saying is that WMYB doesn’t fit his style. Also, to me he is implying that he loves this song so much that it needs to be as it was and he doesn’t want to transform it to make it cool (make it cool = create a more appealing version for his audience), to make it fitting his style. He knows that if he sang WMYB, he should change it and he doesn’t want to (and maybe he wouldn’t know how to do it because he said “I couldn’t re-invent that”). He is not doing an explicit reference to Harry’s version or to something related to Harry’s version.
Also, I don’t find absurd what Louis is saying: when you choose a setlist, you have to make choices and he thinks that WMYB is not the right song for his shows because of the vibes of the song (“It’s a slightly different thing. It’s more fun”). And he doesn’t want to change it, to make it cool to fit his style. Is this a crime? Every artist makes choices, even between the songs that they themselves write.
And let me consider this in a another universe (I don’t think this is the case and this is not my opinion but let me consider it): even if Louis didn’t approve Harry’s version, what would it be the problem? They are two different artists with different styles. It would be totally normal for two different people to think “I would love to make this song in this way” and “No, I don’t like this version”. The world would still spinning, guys. It would be just an opinion (a non disrespectfull opinion).
What Harry did with WMYB is to make it more danceable, more entertaining, more adapted to a live show that is based on the concept “dance and have fun”. But Louis’ shows haven’t got this same concept because they have a different vibe, style and look.
Hello. There’s a video, I believe, on YouTube that’s supposed to be of Louis and Harry kissing on the set of the music video What Makes You Beautiful. It’s dark so you can’t really tell who it is. I don’t know how to link the video here but I’m sure it’s been seen by a lot of people here. Anyways I’m wondering if it’s ever been debunked?
Hi Anon!
I have not seen what you're talking about. If I had to guess, though, I'd guess it's not them. If it was undeniable, it would be a lot more present in 1D lore.
Personally, I'm sure they did do some kissing on that beach, but I can't imagine it was filmed, let alone shared publicly. If anyone knows, please speak up!
