Season 2 - This episode would see Spock being offered the opportunity to try some new Virtual Reality goggles, but oh no! They’ve been sabotaged by Harry Mudd! Now all Spock can see is a Hi-Res photo of Mudd, with no option to close or minimize the picture, AND the goggles have been glued to his head! Kirk and crew must track down Mudd himself and get him to remove the goggles, lest Spock spend the rest of his life staring into that mustachioed face. Those inner-eyelids won’t save him this time.

The idea was canned because at the time, Virtual Reality goggles were deemed just too futuristic for the 23rd Century.

Just watched the newest @startrekcbs #shorttreks episode with @rainnwilson as Harry Mudd. Mudd is easily my favourite parts of STDisco and the new short is well above and beyond my favourite of said shorts. Mudd’s Women is up next, marking the first appearance of the con artist Harcourt Fenton Mudd. Brief Summary: The Enterprise rescues Harry Mudd and three beautiful women who he is transporting to be married off. Thoughts: So Uhura is wearing a gold uniform instead of red and she looks stunning! Omg so Mudd is rescued and beamed aboard and he is damn fabulous with that earring! He’s already lying to them about his name tho lol Anyway, I noticed everyone is calling dilithium lithium in this episode. Also, we get Bones revealing his fear of the transporters. Next, the three women are beamed aboard and all the men on the ship (except Spock) are left drooling like idiots lol Mudd calls Spock “Vulcanian” 🤔 Later, the lie detecting computer exposes Mudd as a smuggler and in need of psychiatric help 😬 The women begin to apparently morph into less attractive versions of themselves and start freaking out that they’re “ugly” now 🤯😠 But don’t worry, Mudd finds and gives them all a pill that makes them beautiful again. The Enterprise is in desperate need of lithium crystals so they go to Rigel 12, a mining planet. The miners come aboard and demand a trade: crystals for the women, to which Kirk refuses. Eventually, Mr. Childress (one of the miners) is lost in the storm on the planet surface while out looking for one of the women, Eve. He finds her and condemns her for being “homely” (I’m cringing) when she reverts back to her original self. In the end, it is revealed that the placebo effect really works (Eve took a fake pill) and beauty is all about confidence 💃🏼 I had a lot of fun with this episode, but I really hate the way women are treated so blatantly like objects or “cargo.” 🖖🏼 Overall Rating: 7/10 Quote: “The sound of male ego.
