Should I disguise myself as a somber old-fashioned girl, gawky Mlle Humbert, and put up my tent on the outskirts of Camp Q, in the hope that its russet nymphets would clamor: "Let us adopt that deep-voiced D.P.," and drag the sad, shyly smiling Berthe au Grand Pied to their rustic hearth. Berthe will sleep with Dolores Haze!

i should be asleep and instead i am thinking about the sdv villagers and making up full government names for them. there's so much story in a name....... nicknames, middle names, maiden names, married names....... the hyphenated last names...... who has a middle name they never tell anyone, who's a junior or a senior...... many thoughts :3
maru is xiomara eloïs pineda freeman. her mom is robin felicity devries and her dad is demetrius pineda freeman iii. our boy sebby is sebastian nathaniel devries. in my head, devries is robin's late first husband's last name, and she kept it even after marrying demetrius
harvey? harvard gregory mcclintock
dear sweet penny is penelope marcia miller, and pam is pamela marie miller. miss pam and her girl have the same initials <3
sam is canonically named samson, so i imagine something like samson nicholas barclay. maybe his brother is vincent alexander barclay. samson and vincent are good, strong, traditionally masculine names. i headcanon that kent chose their first names and jodi chose their middle names. kent is kendall william barclay, jr, named after his war hero father, and jodi is josephine victoria barclay

Does art make a difference?
Aw, sure. Of course there are degrees of extremity to the potential change that art can effect, depending on how many people are able to engage with it. The Beatles made a huge difference in the world. But Henry Darger, Jeff McKissack, Karen Dalton, Pauline Oliveros, Kenneth Patchen – there are so many folks who have made great art and not gotten massively famous for it, yet I think there are all sorts of ways their work informs and shapes other people’s work, and brains, and decisions.
Should politics and art mix?
Well, everything mixes, the New Statesman! That’s like asking if a knee-reflex hammer and a quadriceps tendon should “mix”.
Is your work for the many or for the few?
That’s for the many/few to say. I just crank out the hot jams.
If you were world leader, what would be your first law?
Gravity. I feel like we need to tighten up the constitutional protections that particular law enjoys. It’s a ticking time bomb, if you ask me.
Who would be your top advisers?
Cute angel on one shoulder, cute devil on the other.
What, if anything, would you censor?
Maybe we could all agree to not bust each other’s chops all cut-dang day.
If you had to banish one public figure, who would it be?
Don’t know, banishment might be a little extreme, but I’d sure like to take that Stephen Hawking dude down a notch or two. Right? Are you with me?
What are the rules that you live by?
Basically, “bros before hos”. I feel like if you stay true to that, everything else just kind of falls into place.
Do you love your country?
I love William Faulkner, Dolly Parton, fried chicken, Van Dyke Parks, the Grand Canyon, Topanga Canyon, bacon cheeseburgers with horseradish, Georgia O’Keeffe, Grand Ole Opry, Gary Snyder, Gilda Radner, Radio City Music Hall, Big Sur, Ponderosa pines, Southern BBQ, Highway One, Kris Kristofferson, National Arts Club in New York, Ruth Crawford Seeger, Joni Mitchell, Ernest Hemingway, Harriet Tubman, Hearst Castle, Ansel Adams, Kenneth Jay Lane, Yuba River, South Yuba River Citizens League, “Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore”, “Hired Hand”, “The Jerk”, “The Sting”, “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid”, clambakes, lobster rolls, s’mores, camping in the Sierra Nevadas, land sailing in the Nevada desert, riding horseback in Canyon de Chelly; Walker Percy, Billie Holiday, Drag City, Chez Panisse/Alice Waters/slow food movement, David Crosby, Ralph Lauren,San Francisco Tape Music Center, Albert Brooks, Utah Phillips, Carol Moseley Braun, Bolinas CA, Ashland OR, Lawrence KS, Austin TX, Bainbridge Island WA, Marilyn Monroe, Mills College, Elizabeth Cotton, Carl Sandburg, the Orange Show in Houston, Toni Morrison, Texas Gladden, California College of Ayurvedic Medicine, Louis Comfort Tiffany, Saturday Night Live, Aaron Copland, Barack Obama, Oscar de la Renta, Alan Lomax, Joyce Carol Oates, Fred Neil, Henry Cowell, Barneys New York, Golden Gate Park, Musee Mechanique, Woody Guthrie, Maxfield Parrish, Malibu, Maui, Napa Valley, Terry Riley, drive-in movies, homemade blackberry ice cream from blackberries picked on my property, Lil Wayne, Walt Whitman, Halston, Lavender Ridge Grenache from Lodi CA, Tony Duquette, Julia Morgan, Lotta Crabtree, Empire Mine, North Columbia Schoolhouse, Disneyland, Nevada County Grandmothers for Peace; Roberta Flack, Randy Newman, Mark Helprin, Larry David, Prince; cooking on Thanksgiving; Shel Siverstein, Lee Hazlewood, Lee Radziwill, Jackie Onassis, E.B. White, William Carlos Williams, Jay Z, Ralph Stanley, Allen Ginsberg, Cesar Chavez, Harvey Milk, RFK, Rosa Parks, Arthur Miller, “The Simpsons”, Julia Child, Henry Miller, Arthur Ashe, Anne Bancroft, The Farm Midwifery Center in TN, Martha Graham, Alvin Ailey, Jr., Eleanor Roosevelt, Clark Gable, Harry Nilsson, Woodstock, and some other stuff. Buuuut, the ol’ U S of A can pull some pretty dick moves. I’m hoping it’ll all come out in the wash...
Are we all doomed?
If we keep our expectations pretty low I think we might be fine. I mean, we’re definitely all dying at some point. There’s no getting around that. But between now and then, things might start looking up!

Pride Month Movie 20: Capote
I was hesitant to rewatch Bennett Miller's 2005 biopic because I thought it would only strengthen my desire to see Truman Capote vs. the Swans on one of the many streaming services I can't afford. I was right, and I do!
It's worth it, though, because this is such a unique treatment of a historical figure and Philip Seymour Hoffman's incredible portrayal of the titular author. A not small, not gay actor telling small gay man lies for two hours should not be this gripping, but here we are! (Hoffman was over half a foot taller than Capote, a teacup novelist). I love stories about people who are queer that do not focus singularly on their sexual/romantic relationships. Jack is there, accusing Truman of being in a good mood over the men whose crime he's writing about potentially being executed, but so is Nell (Harper Lee), trying to shame him into being a decent person. The relationship between Nell and Truman is the part of the film I enjoy most. They obviously care for each other very deeply, but she absolutely refuses to indulge his bullshit. We should all have a friend like Nell.
The central relationship, though, is between Truman and Perry, one of the two murderers he writes about in his non-fiction work, In Cold Blood. Clifton Collins Jr's portrayal of Perry is also very memorable, his sincerity creating a heartbreaking contrast to Capote's manipulation. I was torn between watching two bio-pics for pride month, and I chose Capote because of convenience; I already own it! The other contender was Milk, Gus Van Sant's 2008 film starring Sean Penn as politician Harvey Milk. Having just looked at the cast list, I may need to watch it anyway, but I think I made the right choice. Harvey Milk may not have been any more of a saint than anyone else fighting for equal rights for marginalized people, but you would not know that from seeing this movie, if memory serves. Capote is much more flawed, and therefore much more relatable.

Batman (vol. 1) #407: [Year One, pt. 4] Friend in Need
Read Date: sometime in 2019
Cover Date: May 1987
● Writer: Frank Miller ● Penciller: Dave Mazzucchelli ● Inker: Dave Mazzucchelli ● Colorist: Richmond Lewis ● Letterer: Todd Klein ● Editor: Dennis O'Neil ●
SYNOPSIS:
James Gordon and Sarah Essen have dinner together. Jim feels guilty over their recent affair, but doesn't have the will to call it off. He even gives Sarah a bracelet – a present that should have gone to his pregnant wife. Finally, Sarah makes the decision to break it off. She puts in a transfer to New York City.
A few days later, Gordon arrests notorious drug dealer Jefferson Skeevers. Skeevers is a key figure that can link Detective Flass to organized crime, but he's not revealing any information. Assistant District Attorney Harvey Dent allows the court to grant him bail.
Batman sneaks into Skeevers' hotel room and accosts him. That same night, Skeevers approaches Lt. Gordon offering to reveal everything he knows concerning Detective Flass and his illegal conduct. After taking Jefferson's statement, Gordon bypasses Commissioner Loeb and goes straight to Internal Affairs.
Loeb does not appreciate Gordon going over his head. To further illustrate his displeasure, he shows him a surveillance photo of Jim and Sarah kissing one another. Loeb is more than ready to expose Gordon's tryst if he continues pursuing an indictment against Flass.
Later, Gordon and his wife Barbara visit Wayne Manor. Jim interviews Bruce Wayne concerning his suspicious actions, but Bruce dismisses all notions that he could possibly be Batman. As the two leave the estate, Jim confides in Barbara and tells her of the affair.
A few nights later, Gordon and a few loyal officers interrogate Flass at length. At first, he refuses to cooperate, but before long, he agrees to detail everything he knows – including dirt on Commissioner Loeb.
Meanwhile, Barbara Gordon gives birth to her son – James Gordon, Jr.
A few nights later, the Catwoman raids the home of Carmine Falcone. She believes that making a strike against Falcone will help to forge her own legendary status. The Batman arrives and attacks Falcone's men. The Catwoman escapes capture, but not before raking her claws across Falcone's face. The media learns of the incident and reports that the Batman and this mysterious new Catwoman are working in collusion with one another.
Commissioner Loeb makes a telephone call to Falcone. He instructs him to take measures against Gordon. Falcone sends his men to Gordon's apartment where they abduct his wife and infant son. Jim manages to shoot a few of the kidnappers, but Johnny Viti takes off in his car with the baby.
Fortunately for Gordon, Bruce Wayne is present incognito. He follows Jim who takes off after Falcone on a motorcycle. While Gordon deals with Johnny, Bruce rescues baby Jim Gordon.
Days later, news of Commissioner Loeb's corrupt regime hits the media wire. Loeb announces his possible resignation. The incident places Gordon back into the spotlight and he is soon promoted to the rank of Captain. With Sarah Essen gone to New York, Gordon starts working on his marriage to save it. Around this time, a maniac calling himself the Joker has threatened to poison the Gotham Water Reservoir, but Gordon has already contacted Batman, marking the beginning of their longtime collaboration.

'The 77th BAFTA Awards are set to take place on Sunday, Feb. 18, at London’s Royal Festival Hall, with “Doctor Who” star David Tennant serving as the host. Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” leads the pack with 13 nominations, the highest of any film this year.
According to Variety’s projections, “Oppenheimer” is expected to secure 10 BAFTA awards, potentially making it the most awarded film in the history of the event...
Moreover, “Oppenheimer” has the potential to garner additional wins. Given its home-field advantage, Emily Blunt stands a strong chance against Da’Vine Joy Randolph (“The Holdovers”) due to her popularity. Furthermore, the film’s achievements suggest it could also be a contender in the costumes and makeup and hair categories.
Whether “Oppenheimer’s” BAFTA success will translate to the Oscars remains uncertain...

Wang Yibo’s Watch List. 📼📽
Movies & Dramas he enjoyed and mentioned for the past years. Check out his picks and see if you have similar tastes in films.✌🏼
Movies:
1. Spiderman - let’s start with the obvious. The boy dressed up as Spidey. He answered “Spiderman” as a favorite movie in one of his first interview as an Idol. So yeah. Everyone loves Spidey!
2. Big Hero 6 - Baymax!
Robotics prodigy Hiro (Ryan Potter) lives in the city of San Fransokyo. Next to his older brother, Tadashi, Hiro's closest companion is Baymax (Scott Adsit), a robot whose sole purpose is to take care of people. When a devastating turn of events throws Hiro into the middle of a dangerous plot, he transforms Baymax and his other friends, Go Go Tamago (Jamie Chung), Wasabi (Damon Wayans Jr.), Honey Lemon (Genesis Rodriguez) and Fred (T.J. Miller) into a band of high-tech heroes.
3. Minions- He went through a Minion phase so it’s not a secret that he watched the film. and tbh, it was really popular when it came out— and the franchise still is.
3. Fast & Furious - fast cars? Totally his type of movie. He answered this in an interview when he started with UNIQ.
Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) enjoys the adrenaline of street car racing and his fans treat him like a rock star. After a blazing encounter with the ruthless Johnny Tran, Dom decides to take Brian (Paul Walker), a newcomer to street racing, under his wing. Dom's sister Mia sees something she likes in Brian, too. Trouble is, neither of them realize he's an undercover cop, and Dominic and his rival Johnny Tran are both the prime suspects in a case involving dirty money and big-rig hijacking.
4. 比悲伤更悲伤的故事/ More Than Blue - This is what he said is a movie that made him cry.
K was abandoned by his mother after the death of his father, while Cream lost her entire family in a traffic accident. Sharing similar circumstances, the two become best friends and come to share a home.
5. Kimi No Nawa - He uses a scene from the film as his phone wallpaper. So...
Two teenagers share a profound, magical connection upon discovering they are swapping bodies. Things manage to become even more complicated when the boy and girl decide to meet in person.
6. Lost in Russia - he sang the OST for this, “My Mom”
The full movie is available on YT if anyone is interested
Ivan plans to go to America for work purposes. However, his plans are foiled when he decides to follow his mother on a train to Moscow.
7. The Meg - Another one I’m adding here since he sang the OST.
Previously thought to be extinct, a massive creature attacks a deep-sea submersible, leaving it disabled and trapping the crew at the bottom of the Pacific. With time running out, a visionary oceanographer recruits rescue diver Jonas Taylor to save the crew and the sea itself from an unimaginable threat -- a 75-foot-long prehistoric shark known as the Megalodon.
8. Joker - He loves this character and it’s natural that he watched Joaquin Phoenix’s version of it. He also mentioned it as a movie he recently enjoyed in a 2020 interview.
9. Dark Knight - Okay so let me just list some things of why he loves this movie and in particular, Heath Ledger’s ( RIP ) portrayal of it.
- he was saying his lines “why so serious” during Untamed behind the scenes.
- he performed as the Joker. Hello?
- his Wechat pfp (2021) is Heath/Joker photo edit
- Yixing wrote a song for him called ‘Joker’
So. Yes. It is clearly a favorite.
With the help of allies Lt. Jim Gordon (Gary Oldman) and DA Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart), Batman (Christian Bale) has been able to keep a tight lid on crime in Gotham City. But when a vile young criminal calling himself the Joker (Heath Ledger) suddenly throws the town into chaos, the caped Crusader begins to tread a fine line between heroism and vigilantism.
sidenote: this movie is a masterpiece!!!
The next 3 films are the most recent ones we know of and that he mentioned in his Bazaar 2021 interview.
10. The Pianist” [2002] - He said he wants to play a role like this.>> “Looking at a character like this, i desire to act in such a role in my heart.”
In this adaptation of the autobiography "The Pianist: The Extraordinary True Story of One Man's Survival in Warsaw, 1939-1945," Wladyslaw Szpilman (Adrien Brody), a Polish Jewish radio station pianist, sees Warsaw change gradually as World War II begins. Szpilman is forced into the Warsaw Ghetto, but is later separated from his family during Operation Reinhard. From this time until the concentration camp prisoners are released, Szpilman hides in various locations among the ruins of Warsaw.
11. Amadeus
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (Tom Hulce) is a remarkably talented young Viennese composer who unwittingly finds a fierce rival in the disciplined and determined Antonio Salieri (F. Murray Abraham). Resenting Mozart for both his hedonistic lifestyle and his undeniable talent, the highly religious Salieri is gradually consumed by his jealousy and becomes obsessed with Mozart's downfall, leading to a devious scheme that has dire consequences for both men.
12. Pulp Fiction
Vincent Vega (John Travolta) and Jules Winnfield (Samuel L. Jackson) are hitmen with a penchant for philosophical discussions. In this ultra-hip, multi-strand crime movie, their storyline is interwoven with those of their boss, gangster Marsellus Wallace (Ving Rhames) ; his actress wife, Mia (Uma Thurman) ; struggling boxer Butch Coolidge (Bruce Willis) ; master fixer Winston Wolfe (Harvey Keitel) and a nervous pair of armed robbers, "Pumpkin" (Tim Roth) and "Honey Bunny" (Amanda Plummer).
13. Gonjiam Haunted Asylum - he hates horror films but he watched this with the cast of Untamed.
The crew of a horror web series travels to an abandoned asylum for a live broadcast. It soon encounters much more than expected as it moves deeper inside the nightmarish old building
14. 300 - all because his sparta thing in the Happy Camp Episode (2020) 🤣🤣
In 480 B.C. a state of war exists between Persia, led by King Xerxes (Rodrigo Santoro), and Greece. At the Battle of Thermopylae, Leonidas (Gerard Butler), king of the Greek city state of Sparta, leads his badly outnumbered warriors against the massive Persian army. Though certain death awaits the Spartans, their sacrifice inspires all of Greece to unite against their common enemy.
15. Crow’s Zero - he even mentioned that he wants to play a role like that. 🙂
A transfer student attempts to take over the most violent high school in the country, whose students form factions and battle each other for power. Mentored by a yakuza, he strives for what has never been achieved: unification of the school.
16. Black Panther - aside from him being a black panther ( SDC!!! ), one clue we got is him doing the “Wakanda Forever” in a behind the scene clip from GYH.
After the death of his father, T'Challa returns home to the African nation of Wakanda to take his rightful place as king. When a powerful enemy suddenly reappears, T'Challa's mettle as king -- and as Black Panther -- gets tested when he's drawn into a conflict that puts the fate of Wakanda and the entire world at risk. Faced with treachery and danger, the young king must rally his allies and release the full power of Black Panther to defeat his foes and secure the safety of his people.
17. Crystal Sky of Yesterday - an Animated film where Yibo dubbed a character in.
Tu Xiaoyi, Yao Zhetian and Qi Jingxuan are high school students in a small town, Lanxi, in southern China. This is a story about dreams, friendship, family and first love in their youthful days.
18. Rurouni Kenshin - live action. He even posted about it.
19. Brokeback Mountain - based on that joke he made. Thanks @rainbowsky for the tip!
Anime/TV show:
1. One Piece - He loves Roronoa Zoro. He mentioned this in an interview and he also “transformed” as the character in one of his Douyin videos.
2. Spongebob - another obvious one.
3. Goblin ( Korean Drama ) - because he was caught singing part of the OST in a BTS for Gank Your Heart. and since then, we’ve all been dreaming for a full version of it 🥲
In his quest for a bride to break his immortal curse, Dokkaebi, a 939-year-old guardian of souls, encounters a grim reaper and a student with a tragic past
4. My Own Swordsman (2006)
is set during the Ming Dynasty (明代 míngdài) in a fictional town called Qixia Town (七侠镇 qī xiá zhèn). The series focuses on a group of six people, all with different personalities who meet in an inn called “Tongfu Inn”.
5. Samurai X - he was seen imitating Kenshin’s move as well as Sojiro Seta.
This is a short list and I wish we had more. I think it’s partly because he doesn’t often get asked about these. Yibo has alot of other hobbies/interests ( skateboarding, legos, street dance and moto racing ) that people prompt him to talk about in interviews. ✌🏼
