despite his appearance, harwin was a worrier. yes, he was able to hide it well but it never stopped his brain from running away with terrible thoughts as to what happened after his death. harwin hoped that in the little time he’d had with his boys, that they knew he loved them. not that he could ever say it to them, he was their mother’s sworn protector after all… he couldn’t be their father. part of him lamented that they weren’t all born here. in this place parentage didn’t matter, he could have been their father from the very beginning… what a thought that was. sometimes, after a long shift, harwin would get lost in thought about the family he could have had… he’d walked through the park for a while, just enjoying the sound of the rain, when he’d spotted a young man seemingly trapped by the rain. he made his way over and smiled “which way are you heading? i don’t mind sharing my umbrella if we’re going the same way.”

just stewing in what jace said....."mongrels" and ironically mentioning aegon's dreams as another tool IN this game of pretend just like rhaenyra calling him her heir. you are a targaryen that's all that matters // i'll never be a son. it just makes so much sense that he would be so alarmed when rhaenyra couldn't be found. "you could've been slain!" because jace is nothing without her. how many times did he lie awake thinking of rhaenyra dying and having to fight his own brothers for their mother's crown, that the lords he's known and has known him for years turn to little aegon and crown him because rhaenyra's words are wind? just like viserys' were. and if just any bastard can ride dragons, then jace is nothing special at all.....the single moment of hope in jace's face when rhaenyra chose the war above him, her heir....

Jaecaerys continues to be the only person with any sort of common sense. Obviously I'm not excusing what he says about people from the lower classes, but he makes a good point about his legitimacy being endangered by clear proof Targaryen bastards can claim dragons. Which is why the book makes SO much more sense bc the entire dragonseed idea is his idea, not Mysaria/Rhaenyra's. We can't know for sure bc of how F&B is written, but with it being Jace's idea it's implied at the very least that he's weighed the benefits versus the consequences to his own legitimacy and their dire need to win the war and decided in favor of having the dragonseeds claim dragons. Taking that idea from him though and having it basically be Mysaria's is a complete insult to him and a politically damaging decision he didn't agree to. And not only does he have to deal with that but also in this version he has to be the one consistently wrangling Rhaenyra's council because she's literally NEVER there. I sympathize more with Jacaerys every week bc I'm frustrated, so I can't imagine being him.

I'm a big fan of Cregan looking like Harwin theories because

1. Hello Jace's daddy issues making him fall for a dude looking like his papa hehehe. Jace looking for his dead father in every man he meets finding only disappointment after disappointment.. and then to find Cregan, to find this wolf born from the same First Men blood as Harwin looking like he could be his twin? Something about Cregan seeing his little brother in Jace and Jace seeing his father in Cregan makes me go feral.

2. It makes Cregan executing Larys so much more poetic. Last thing Larys seeing being a face resembling his older brother who loved him so much.. Harwin who adored Larys, who was so protective and couldn't stand anyone being rude to his little brother, who was perhaps one of the few people who loved Larys genuinely and without prejudice.. only to get burnt alive by him. And it's like Harwin himself is reading out Larys's judgement and Larys doesn't see a wolf, but a ghost that somewhere.. he really missed.

I love the fact that Baela asked Jace about Harwin as his father. Because no matter how much he has to keep up the Velaryon name, he's in truth Harwin's son. I fucking love that Baela and Jace are close enough that they talk about this openly.
