How about some dr Hauser x reader headcannons. Also aaa so sorry for being mean. Your writing is top notch
I'm sorry but I don't know what you are talking about. I do not recall you being mean, so there is nothing you have to apologize for. As for your request, I hope you enjoy this:
At the beginning of your relationship, Hauser will be a bit reserved. He is a very private person, and it will take him a while to be able to open up to you, but with time and patience, he will begin to tell you more and more about himself and his past.
He is actually a very shy person. Whenever you would try to kiss him and hold his hand in public, his cheeks would redden to the point he looks like a tomato and he would avert his gaze.
Despite having sworn to abandon his job as a surgeon, Hauser will make an exception for you if you get hurt. He is the only doctor in the entire area that hasn’t lost his mind (completely) and he does not want you to walk right into the claws of the monstrous chief doctor.
He is not a jealous person. If you would have friends outside the library, he will gladly tolerate them in order to keep you happy. He only wants to know who these people are and what their problems are. This may seem a bit controlling, but he just wants to keep you save, which is not very easy in the environment you two live in.
You are the only person he allows to take a book from his library. The only thing he expects you to do is to return it in one piece. That is quite reasonable, isn’t it?
When his knee begins to hurt unbearably, he sometimes asks you to fetch his meds or the salve. However, if your relationship has already progressed and you two trust each other unconditionally, it is also possible for him to ask you to massage it.
If you are tired or feel unwell, he has no problem to scoop you up in one arm or hoist you onto his back and carry you to the room he had set up for the both of you to comfortably live in. If you want, he would even make you a cup of tea or cocoa and/or cuddle with you.
He is very observant. Give him one week and he will know you from the inside out. While it may sound creepy, he mostly uses this knowledge to find books you might find interesting to give to you. He knows that Heilwald can be boring at times, and he does not want you to die of boredom.
He is very protective of you when it comes to the staff. He is aware of how dangerous they are and what they would do to you as soon as they would get their hands on you. He’s afraid that you would end up like the others. That is why he will not let you go to dangerous places alone, making sure that you always have company like the Trash Collector or Nurse Hellen. He doesn’t like either of them, but since they are one of the only people who have not lost their minds yet, he knows that you are safe with them.
If you are sick, he does his best to keep you as comfortable and happy as he can. He does not leave your side, bringing you tea and medicine. If you have to vomit, he will pet your back and hold your hair, if it is long enough, out of the bucket or bowl to make sure it doesn’t get dirty.
When he is sick, however, you have to practically tie him down for him to stay in bed and force him to take the medicine to make him feel better. He hates being vulnerable and weak, and it will certainly take a while for you to convince him to rest. Your top argument? “Someone could be stealing right in front of your eyes, and you would be too sick to notice.”
When it comes to sex, Hauser and you have it regularly. He leaves you satisfied and makes you feel loved, doing his best to meet your every need and give you all you could dream of. He does not have any kinks he knows of, as his sex life was almost non-existent before you came into his world and became his significant other, but with you, he feels comfortable enough to explore.
He loves cats. If you are not allergic or hate them, he will gladly take you on his nightly stroll to feed the strays that have been caught in the loophole. If you see and really want one, he might even consider adopting it for you and to create a permanent and loving home for him or her.
On lazy evenings or afternoons, he would take you down to the library. There, he has a room with a large fireplace. He loves to cuddle up with you on the large armchair in front of it, reading a book while you sleep or do the same. Often, this is done with a cup of your favorite drink or a bit of alcohol. Those moments are his absolute favorite and the best way to build an emotional connection with him.
When it comes to children, he is not really fond of them. They are too loud and energetic for someone like him. However, when you want a child or already have one from a previous relationship, he will gladly watch them and teach them things. If the child happens to be into reading or storytelling, he will be able to build a strong bond with them. Regardless of said bond though, the child is just as well-protected as you. Since he or she is a part of you, he’d rather get himself killed than let any harm come to him or her.
If you have “unusual” pets like snakes or spiders or rats, be prepared that they will be used for harmless experiments. Don’t worry, he would never hurt them, he just wants to test their intelligence with labyrinths or similar stuff. Besides, he seems to have a hand for them too, as they seem to love him just as much as they love you, if not a bit more.

I had an idea for rip. It’s kinda like the scene from season 1 where jimmy got beaten up by Fred but instead of Jimmy could it be the reader is rips wife and she’s secretly pregnant with their second child and she protects her stomach and then revel to rip she’s pregnant again. You can easily change bits to the story or even add a little bit of smut that’s fine with me .
The Rule Of Fighting…Especially my Wife
Tumblr media
Threading my fingers through his black hair Rip broke the kiss pulling himself out of me where we laid under the covers naked. Running a hand over my face I began catching my breath. Moving my other hand over my growing pregnant belly until Rip grasped my hand in his. Rolling onto my side I whispered still not awake even though we woke up in a very pleasing way. “Do you have to go to work today. Can’t we just take a day and lay around the house?”
“You’re daddy wouldn’t like that. Besides I owe him everything for letting me work at the ranch.” He responded leaning forward and kissing me on the head gently getting up from the bed. He shrugs his jeans on and grabbed his black jacket with his hat off the hook.
Holding myself up on my elbow I held the sheet up against my chest even though he had seen me naked already. “Yeah you’re probably right, baby. Hey though where do you think our little Georgie is off too?”
“I ain’t too sure. He’s probably trying to sattle a horse or running around with his grandpa John. I’ll see you later tonight Y/n.” He placed his hat on his head coming over giving me one last kiss going to work.
Getting out of the bed, I ran my hands down my grown belly, looking myself over in the standing mirror we had in the corner of the bedroom. I slide on the pair of jeans that didn't press on my stomach, pairing it with a light orange flannel shirt that was tucked into them. With some light brown boots and a tan cowgirl hat on my head. Heading towards the barn, I grabbed the saddle for my horse about to throw it over until I heard someone make a remark about me entering the room. "Woah, I guess that Wheeler really couldn't let you go, so he just keeps knocking you up."
"I'm sorry do you have a problem with me?" Throwing the saddle over my horse I turned around on my feet with my boots kicking up dust.
My gaze met the appearance of one of the ranch hands who was named Fred if I remember correctly. "I've got a problem with you getting special attention from the boss."
"Your boss is my father, so.." Crossing my arms over my chest, I snipped in a slight tone.
Fred stepped closer towards me, glaring down at me since he was slightly taller than me. "I ain't talkin about your daddy, Dutton. You're sleeping with Wheeler and get off work early and still getting the same pay as we do. That isn't right in my opinion."
"First off, I get breaks more than you because of my five year old son Georgie and are you blind cause at the moment I'm pregnant again. Two, I'm heading to work now Fred - argh!" I screamed when he stomped up grabbing me by my hair yanking me backwards until I elbow him in the face.
He stumbled backwards holding his nose while I spun around on my feet. "You bitch!"
"You don't want to fight me, Fred." I warned him, getting in a fighting stance with my hands into fists ready to go.
Yet the ranch hand refused my warning and came charging straight for me. He tackled me to the dirt before I could really blink. He was throwing punches at me but I was blocking most until he gave a harsh one to my belly and I released a cry of agony. "God damn!" I cursed curling up in a ball for a second with him getting to his feet.
"You need to remember who is stronger here, Dutton girl." He spat down to me.
Sniffing through some tears i glared at him until I swiped my feet underneath his near mine where he topped to the dust. Forcing myself to my feet I held my stomach with one hand landing a good punch on his nose with the other. Fred came back trying to kick my stomach yet I buried my face close against it so he kneed me in the face. My nose begins bleeding where he quickly grabbed my arm throwing me over his back until we heard my son's sweet voice. "Mommy, why are you wrestling?"
"You're boys gonna see how weak you are - ohhh fuck!" Fred groaned in serious pain onto his knees when I kicked him in between his legs giving me the chance to rush to my son.
Grabbing his shoulders I croaked through tears and some pain myself. "Georgie, go find daddy now. Bring him here." He ran off when Fred started getting up until I charged tackling the man even though it was harder when I was pregnant.
Swinging a few punches at Fred I got some of his blood on my knuckles. He grabbed my wrists twisting them behind my back throwing me down again. "I told you I was stronger than you, bitch!" He growled in my ear where he about kicks me in the stomach again until someone harshly shoved his body against the wooden barn stalls.
Gasping for breath and some relief I sat upright seeing my husband Rip had him by the collar where he threw him against the stall and then did it again but it was down in the dirt raising his voice. "What's the rule about fighting, Fred. You wanna fight somebody, come fight me. I'll fight you all damn day!"
"That girl done started it with her saying that she deserves the same pay as we do but cuts out half the work. I guess you'll believe anything when you married a whore." Fred coughed looking at me when Georgie came over by my side.
Rip yanked the guy by his jacket holding him against the wall where he almost couldn't breathe by the choke hold he had on the ranch hand. "What did you call her!"
"She's knows I'm right that's she had to send in the little guy to get the big guns." Fred taunts until my husband kicked him harshly in the gut and he collapsed into the dirt.
He grabbed Fred up one last time against the wall for good measure croaking his deep tone with the words he declared. "If you ever hit or speak to my wife like that again I'll kill you, Fred! Are you okay, Y/n?" He released him from his grasp coming slowly over to me with his gaze softening.
"I hurt a little bit...here especially. But otherwise I think I'll be fine." I mumbled placing my hand in his with my eyes dropping to my pregnant stomach where he tugged me up to stand where he picked me up bridal style when I almost collapsed onto the dirt not able to stand on my own.
He carried me back to our cabin with Georgie following us and opening the door to the cabin, then our bedroom and finally the bathroom. "Georgie, go grab one of my shirts and the shorts off the foot of the bed for mommy." Rip spoke towards our son who quickly came back with what he asked.
"Is mommy going to be okay, daddy?" He asked with worry in his sweet voice.
Rip sat me down on the toilet lowering himself to his knees since I didn't have gotten my balance back yet. "She will be. I want you to go play with grandpa John while I help mommy okay little man." He nodded leaving us alone in the bathroom letting silence into the room.
He slowly tugged on my shirt shrugging it over and off my body giving him perfect view of my belly. "I'm sorry he did this to you..to our baby. I'll take him to the train station tomorrow morning if that's what you want." He placed his on my bump feeling me slightly pull away when he touched the sorest part of my body from the fight.
"Rip, don't blame yourself for this. Fred has always been a jackass from the day my father hired him. I'll go to the doctor and get the baby checked out." Resting my hands on his shoulders I sent him a half smile knowing he would start blaming himself for me getting injured.
He nodded, helping me remove my pants and slide the shorts up. He ran a hand through my hair once I slipped his shirt on that was like a dress on me. "I love you so much, darling. He will never touch you again I swear it." He softly took me into his arms carrying me into the other room laying me down in the bed.
He climbed in on his side and I snuggled up into his warmth knowing he would leave to deal with the rancher when I went to sleep and rested. "I love you, Rip and so will this second child of ours." Whispering up into his brown eyes I intertwined our hands together closing my eyes letting sleep overtake me.
Comments really appreciated ❤️

“So… you’re really goin’ back?”
You look up, meeting his eyes before averting them back down to your duffel bag where you toss the stack of clothes inside. The clothes that have been folded, locked away underneath the bed for the past five years. The clothes you swore you wouldn’t wear again, wouldn’t dare to see until you had kids in the future to explain to them why you had a pile of clothes and photos locked away in some old worn trunk that dusted away underneath your bed.
Unfortunately it didn’t last to reach that day because here you are, packing away the clothes into your tactical duffel bag that was also locked away.
“How long?”
You inhale deeply through your nose before slowly exhaling, still not meeting their gaze you continue packing away, placing the frame photo of you and the boys in the center before zipping the duffel shut.
“Not sure.. too early to say,” You answer as you move the bag to the foot of the bed before sitting down,
“When do you leave?”
You swallow, feeling the way your chest tightens at the thought, “Tomorrow, before sunrise,”
Thick silence hovers the room. Everyone thinking and feeling the same thoughts, emotions.
“And why are you going back again?”
“Will you morons knock it off with the questions,” Lloyd’s husky voice bouncing off the wooden walls brings a small smile and a chuckle from you,
“A buddy of mine needs help,” You still answer Jimmy’s question, which he doesn’t respond with another mostly because he can see the way Lloyd gives him the look,
No other questions were sent your way, neither of them wanting a look from Lloyd as well, nor did they want you to dwell on the heavy mood that hovered. So instead, Ryan and Colby were the first to bring up a farewell party, change of topic. You kindly decline their idea, but of course neither men listens to you.
As Ryan and Colby begin listing items on what to bring for the farewell bonfire, and yelling at one another on who gets to keep your bunk (because it’s the closest one to the bathroom) you couldn’t help the small chuckle that falls from your lips. You were really going to miss every single person in this room. Despite them making you lose a few strands of hair from their idiotic actions, and constant bar brawls, you were surely going to miss them.
They made every other day interesting, every night annoying and fun at the same time with their childlike games that they come up with that sometimes leaves them with bruises or a chipped tooth. Everyday, every night, they made it special and you were definitely gonna miss it.
“Hey I’m not leaving just yet, I still got the whole day and the night before y’all start fighting over my bunk,” You say as you stand from the bed, punching both men on their shoulders,
They both share a laugh with you as they continue listing whatever alcohol they should buy, asking if you preferred hotdogs or burgers as you all walked out the house.
Saying goodbye to them was hard, but not as hard as it’s gonna be when you say it to him. Now that.. that will definitely break your heart. The look in his eyes when you tell him, you can already picture them and from the way your chest tightens, you know it’ll be difficult.
*******
You were currently feeding the rest of the horses inside the stables. Marking down the ones who needed a wash and a trim, which stables needed cleaning. Same old routine before having to check up on the rest of the animals, considering your main job at the ranch was analyzing and tracking the animals health. You weren’t exactly a veterinarian, but you learned a few things throughout the years which John persuaded you to take up on his offer of being in charge of the animals when it came to their monthly health checkups. So of course you took classes to advance your knowledge, to help around the ranch, make it easier for the old timer.
Yes he did have actual trained, experienced, veterinarians working on his animals before, but knowing how you easily picked up the job, how much love and care you gave to the livestock, he knew it was a good investment on both parts. Besides, he trusted you dearly in that department.
Hours had flown by, nearing six o’clock in the afternoon as you were finishing up in the stables before heading out to help Lloyd and the boys to check out some of the cows that were further up in the land. As well as putting up a new fence since the one hanging on was already rusting away due to the weather these past few days, as well as some idiotic trespassers cutting through the fence simply to test the Dutton family.
Just as you throw some fresh hay into one of the stables and patted the horse in its neck as he eats his dinner, the sound of loud rough boots marching against the ground ring in your ears.
“Were you ever gonna tell me?” His loud, rough voice settles behind you, words firm as you dumped hay into the last stable,
You sigh, taking off your gloves and placing them in your back pocket before looking up at him. Eyes wide, angry, betrayal, and fear were written in them. Just like you pictured.
“Yes.. I was,”
“When? Tomorrow? When you leave apparently?” Betrayal can be heard in his voice, blue eyes confirming his tone,
“There hasn’t been a good time to let you know,” You tell him, voice calm, tired, heartbroken,
It wasn’t a lie. When he had gotten back from running an errand with Kayce you were determined to lay it on him, but things got hectic that you weren’t even able to spare him a word. It remained that way for the rest of the day, work after work, problem after problem, when lunch came around he wasn’t at the table eating his supper with everyone else, he was out with Dutton, doing the man a favor, so wanting to talk to him during lunch didn’t happen like you were hoping for.
You told yourself you’d let him know when he came back, but apparently he was out and about with Dutton for the rest of the day. So by the time he had came back was at this very moment, catching you feeding the horses inside the stables. Dutton must’ve told him at some point during their errand runs, who else could have? You weren’t annoyed it was your boss who gave him the news, but you were hoping it’d be you who told him because it came from you, no one else.
“Do you not remember what that place did to you?!” He harshly whispers, taking a step closer to you, “Cause I sure as hell can!”
You lower your gaze to the floor with a faint sigh at his words. Of course you remember. How can one forget something like that? The constant nightmares, the flashbacks, mood swings, not knowing what was real or not, the cold sweats, all of it you remember. The first few weeks of being home after being honorably discharged were rather difficult, your body knew it was home, safe, but your mind was still at war. Constant nightmares played in your in head, bullets flying everywhere, blood stains surrounding you, staining your hands and vest. Screams echoing in your mind on a daily from those who were gunned down, who were injured and were slowly bleeding out in your hands.
It was an everyday thing. The boys, Rip, would beg you to get help, to talk to someone, but you’d just shrug them off telling them you were fine, that it’ll pass.
But you were in fact not okay and the nightmares never ceased.
It was after one particular night that everything had changed. The one night that had you finally reaching out for help, the night that had you admitting that you were not okay.
You had been home for two weeks when it had happened. All it took was a hectic, drunken brawl to trigger the episode. One minute you’re enjoying your beer, slightly laughing at a joke that one of the boys shared, letting lose to ease the noise in your head, then the next you’re being pulled off a blonde head who’s face was nearly disfigured beneath you. Blood covering her once fresh face and clean hair, along with your hands that shook from adrenaline, anger, fear, shell shock.
Once Rip got word of what happened he stormed his way to the bunkhouse which is where he had found you staring at your own reflection in the bathroom. The way a cold and lost look was written in your eyes will forever be embedded in his mind. It wasn’t you who stood standing in front of the mirror with tensed shoulders, hair a mess from sweat and dried blood, the real you was trapped in your mind.
It nearly took all night to bring you back, but not once did he give up.
“Rip,” You softly call his name with an exhausted sigh as you close the door to the stable,
“No. You’re not going!” Blue eyes widening more with fear and rage,
“Yes I am,” You respond in a whisper, “They need me,”
“And we need you here!” I need you here.
It was what he should’ve said, but he didn’t. He couldn’t. Wasn’t exactly how he wanted to let you know the truth, wanted to do it the right way, a more intimate, genuine way. But now, he’s out of time. And most likely lost his chance.
He lost you.
“Rip-,” You begin to say but was interrupted by Kacey walking in the stables,
“We’re loaded to fix the fence,” You turn to him before giving him a small nod,
The youngest Dutton switches his gaze from you to the brute man staring intensely at you, knowing then he had walked into something and immediately sensing the tension surrounding the air. He’s felt this mood before, felt tension between you two every so often, but for some reason this time it was stronger, as if one wrong word said would ignite the awaiting flame. So without another word and only a simple nod, he turns to walk away, giving you two privacy. However, you didn’t stick around. Both to just get the day over with and also to postpone the argument.
If you even get a chance to talk about it with him again.
You hear Rip call out to you as you walk out the stables, halting your steps. You glance over your shoulder, meeting his eyes, but no words were said, so instead you let out a sad sigh through your nose as you continue walking out the building. Leaving the brute man alone in the stables with angered thoughts.
*****
Hours had flown by. After fixing the fence, which took nearly the whole day since it was worse than anyone thought, doing daily health checks on the animals, running a quick errand with Beth, everyone was finally able to wash up and spend the remaining hours with you. Everyone sat around the bonfire sharing stories about anything and everything, chatter, laughter and music can be heard in the darkened night.
Empty beer and whiskey bottles, sticks with dried marshmallows and chocolate littered the ground around everyone’s feet. It was a night you’d deeply remember, a night you’d miss, a night you wished would happen every Friday, but you knew it wouldn’t be possible. At least not with you. Not anymore. You tried keeping a strong face, positive thoughts, positive energy, for the sake of everyone around you. They all had high hopes of you coming back home, claiming you’d be home in less than two months because you were tough as a bull, but you knew the truth. The reality of it all.
Obviously you didn’t remind them of the truth, didn’t want to take away the little happiness they held onto for you, the strong faith they had. So all you did was smile at them, raise your glass and down the last bit of your drink. Every so often you’d get lost in your thoughts, thinking of the mission, the serious consequences, the challenges that will come with it, the horror you’ll soon face, but before you can trap yourself in such thoughts they were there to bring you back. Invite you to their conversations, their stories they were sharing, their jokes, which you were thankful for.
What you didn’t notice was the way a pair of blue eyes have been secretly staring at you from across the fire pit. A dark corner where the fire barely illuminated his features. Light or not he didn’t care if he was caught staring at you, everyone was able to read his opinion of the whole situation but no one dared to ask him about it. He was already a fumed bull waiting to be provoked.
There were times where you’d glance up and catch him staring, but not once did you confront him. Making a scene in front of everyone was the last thing you wanted, so you ignored him and his glaring daggers.
Although, at one point during the night, Colby was the one to mention they had ran out of marshmallows, which you volunteered to grab the extra pack from the bunk house. Slightly buzzed you make your way through the Dutton ranch with sluggish steps till you push open the door to the bunks. Walking to the kitchen you grab the new pack of marshmallows sitting on the counter along with another couple chocolate bars. Just as you turn to head back out, your steps come to a stop when you see Rip standing by the couch.
Face emotionless, but eyes dark, red. Was he crying?
“Havin’ fun?” Rip questions, tone cold and firm, yet his blue eyes have another written emotion in them,
You shrug a shoulder, “Tryin’,”
He scoffs, “Yeah I see that.. but it ain’t workin’,”
You knew exactly what he was referring to. The constant lost in thought when the conversation was directed somewhere else. What you didn’t know until now was those same eyes that have been staring at you from the dark were analyzing you throughout the entire night. Watching the way your smile quickly faded as you once again lost yourself in your thoughts, watching the way your fingers peeled off the label from your beer bottle, the way your leg bounced uncontrollably from nerves, fear, and anxiousness. He knew you were afraid, he read you perfectly, but he knew nothing he’d say would change your mind. Not now, not ever.
You were stubborn like a goddamn mule.
“Yeah well, it’s a little hard to have fun when I got two sets of eyes throwing daggers at me all night,” You say, matching his tone as you stare into his eyes,
Heavy tension once again surrounds you two, the muffled music coming from outside was the only thing that can be heard in the room. Neither of you said anything for a good minute or so, just staring at one another with pain written in both your eyes with tears threatening to build. This wasn’t how you wanted to give your farewells to him. Having an argument with him before you left was something you did not want, but yet here you are.
“Can we just..,” You pause, letting out an exhausted sigh before continuing, “Enjoy the rest of the night before I have to catch a flight in a few hours?”
Rip stares deep in your eyes. Hurt, sadness, anger, and fear were written in his blue ones, they were easy to read, especially when he stared at you the way he was staring. He didn’t bother to hide it, yet he didn’t express it to you verbally. Not like he had to or wanted to, it was obvious on how he felt of the whole situation.
“They’re out there celebrating your death..,” He says pointing a long finger at the door then continues with, “.. and I ain’t being apart of it,”
His voice slightly breaks with each word. His blue eyes standing out more when tears begin building, but not one dares to slide down his cheeks, at least not in front of you. Not saying another word, he turns around and heads out the door with a harsh shove that has it banging against the wall.
Whatever string was left holding your heart in place had finally snapped as you watched the door shut behind him. The last memory you’d have of him. This wasn’t how you wanted to leave things with him, he was the only one who could have helped you through it, fought through the dark times, the constant noises in your head. He was the only one who you stayed alive for while you were out in the field, but now that he’s walked away, not wanting any part of it, you didn’t know if it was even worth staying alive once you landed on base. He was your anchor to it all.
And now you’d be stranded in the dark, drowning with nothing to hold you upright. Keep you up float when you felt like sinking, when you felt like the water was too strong for your fighting body. The one person who could’ve saved you from it all was now walking away, leaving you alone.
‘Maybe it was for the best.’
You tell to yourself. You convince yourself. Maybe him not being apart of it, apart of your life would one day guide him to a better life with the love of his life, guide him to someone who can make him happier, stronger, happier.
It was for the best that he left.
*****
4:30 am
Throwing your duffle and backpack in the backseat you shut the door before facing the small crowd. You give everyone a big hug, including the man himself, John Dutton who hugged you for a good long minute before being slightly shoved by Beth who took you in a stronghold as she secretly let the tears fall down her cheeks. You don’t know how, but you kept your own tears from spilling down. Once departing from the woman you go ahead and start hugging the cowboys, sharing a few laughs with them as they joke with you one last time. Which you appreciated their effort in trying to lighten things up, but you knew they knew nothing they can say now will help. But still, you appreciate it.
“So.. who won?” You say when Ryan and Colby stand in front of you,
They both share a look, small smile forming on their lips, “Neither,” Colby says,
You give them a confused look, but Ryan continues with, “We decided to leave it ready for you when you come back,”
Come back. Something you knew was a big word at the moment.
“Can’t have it ready forever,” You say with a sad chuckle,
“We can and we will,” Ryan firmly states, letting you know no one will come near the empty bed unless it’s you,
It was a faint demand from them. They wanted you to come back, no matter how hard it will be, they demanded that you come back to reclaim your bed at the bunkhouse, and that alone brought the ball back in your throat.
“Gonna miss you dorks,” You manage to say before quickly bringing them both for a group hug,
Both men wrap their arms around you, burying their faces in your hair as they cherish the moment. As you go to pull away both their hands on either side of your hip tighten, not wanting the hug to end, but eventually step away from you.
You give them a small smile and then a small wave to everyone huddle in front of you before turning around to climb into the truck where Roscoe patiently waited for you.
“Ready?” The soldier asks as you take one last glance out the window, watching everyone wave at you with saddened smiles, the ranch standing tall and beautifully behind them.
Letting out a small sigh you give him a nod.
In a matter of seconds the truck roars to life before beginning to move down the driveway and out of the Duttons ranch. Silence engulfs the car, only the sound of the radio softly playing in the speakers is heard. Leaning your head against the headrest behind you, you let your mind drift away, thinking about everyone at the ranch, playing their faces in your mind to not forget them, your fingers softly playing with a small deer origami that Tate had made for you last night for good luck. Then thinking about him once again.
Remembering how things were left between you two. Wishing you could’ve fixed things before you left, wished you could’ve said the truth, wished he could’ve have given you the chance to let you show him just how much he meant to you. But he didn’t. None of it happened.
So now, all you’ll think about is What If.
While driving halfway out the ranch and you still being lost in thought, you didn’t capture the moment a large black figure blending in the dark speeding in your direction until the truck comes to an abrupt stop. Causing your seatbelt to lock just in time to catch your body from going forward.
“The fuck?” Roscoe reacts, putting the gear in park as he eyes the figure that is currently blocking his way,
You clench your jaw as you make eye contact with him, even in the dark and with the only source of light from the headlights you both immediately lock eyes.
Of course it’s Rip on top of his horse. Black hat on his head with his black jacket wrapped on his frame.
“I’ll take care of this,” You say, never breaking eye contact with him as you unbuckle yourself and open the door,
“(Y/n) we don’t have time for this,” Roscoe tries arguing back, but you repeat yourself as you hop off the truck,
Shutting the door and standing by it you face him, where he still remained on top of his horse.
“Rip seriously what is your problem? I don’t have time to deal with you right now!” You yell as the brute man climbs off his horse,
A grim look was written on his face as he makes his way towards you. A look he only has when he’s angry about something, and right about now he’s angry at you, you knew that.
“I swear to god Rip if you don’t get out the way I’m gonna-,” Your words were cut off by a pair of rough lips latching onto yours,
Your eyes grow wide in anger, shock, and confusion. But once you feel the way his hand gently cups the side of your face you realize what exactly is happening and only react back. Your own hands finding their way to his face, fingers slowly tangling themselves in his soft, dark curly hair at the base of his neck. A deep, saddened relieved sigh escapes from you two as you both pour the hidden truth into the kiss. Deepening it and cherishing the moment at the same time, neither one wanting or planning to break it off, but you both knew it had to happen, you had to leave.
Which is why Rip got a little selfish for a second, he deepened the kiss, licking his way into your mouth as he held a tight grip on your hip to not let you out of his hold. Just a few more seconds of this, he had to. If this was the only time he would get this opportunity until you came back home, then he was sure as hell he would take every second that was available to have you in his arms, have your lips molding with his, have your fingers tugging on his hair, have your breath fanning his lips, have both your hot tears smear against his own cheeks. He was taking advantage of the moment because he knew it would be more than a month that he would be able to feel it again. Feel this moment again.
Eventually, you both do break the kiss, but not once did he let an inch form between you two. Leaning his forehead against yours, he lets you both catch a breather from the intense, beautiful moment.
“You come back to me you hear?” He whispers, beautiful blue eyes now searching for your own,
When he finally does find your (E/c) eyes that he has grown to love, he whispers once again, “You come home,”
New tears fall down your cheeks at his words, you knew you couldn’t make such a big promise, especially in your line of work. It was a rule, a rule everyone in the military who serves knew they should never make, because they knew reality was always behind that promise.
You stare into those blue eyes of his that have tears of their own, some finding their way down his rough skin, while the rest build at the brim of his eyes. You knew he knew you couldn’t make that promise, but he knew you’d fight for it no matter what, no matter how impossible it might seem, because he knew you always kept your promise. That’s who you were. Loyal, loving, protective, unafraid, and a true fighter.
You stare into his eyes a little longer, feeling the way another tear slides down your cheeks then feeling the rough pad of his thumb gently wiping it away. The words get caught in your throat, the words where you wanted to tell him to be realistic, to not make you promise anything because disappointment and pain is the only thing he’ll receive, but before you can even force them out you hear your name being called from inside the truck.
“We gotta go,” Roscoe softly says, hating to interrupt the moment, hating to part you from the man you clearly love,
You sniff, looking down at the ground then back up to Rip where he only gives you a small smile.
“C’mon,” Rip whispers as he leads you back into the truck,
Once sitting inside, shutting the door, Rip points at the man behind the wheel before saying, “You look after her you hear?”
Roscoe nods at him, “You’ve got my word man,”
Rip nods back before averting his eye to you. You sat there, tears still slowly sliding down your cheeks, you weren’t ready to say goodbye to him, not after you both finally confessed to each other. Which reminds you, you had to say it, in fear of not being able to ever again.
“Rip I-,” You try but he cuts you off with a shake of his head,
“No. Don’t say it. You say it when you come back,” He demands, small smile tugging on the corner of his lips, “Just know I do too,”
I do too.
You sniff once again, tears falling down as you glance behind him, seeing the ranch and the bunkhouse glow in the background. Memories flash in your mind. All those laughs, tears, injuries that you’ve accumulated over the years with everyone who lives and works at the ranch played in your head, reminding you that you had a family to come back to once again, you had friends who were also waiting for you to come back with open arms. You had a life to get back to.
Come back.
Averting your eyes back to his that had tears of their own falling down his cheeks, you stare at him as you remembered, you had him to come back to. He was your main reason to come back home, he was the reason why you weren’t going to die in the field, he was the reason why you weren’t going to give up when shot down, he was the reason why you weren’t going bleed out. He was your reason why you were coming home.
And if anyone tried stopping you from doing so, then it would be the last thing they ever did.
Because you are coming home.
Reaching a hand out the window, you let your small held cup his bearded cheek before letting your own thumb wipe away the tears that fall down. Looking into his eyes with a firm stare, a promise, you let him hear the words.
“I’m coming home,”

The Dutton Ranch glowed with the beauty of the morning on your very first day there. Determined to make a good impression and avoid any disruptions, you woke up early and headed to the barn to tackle the biggest task on your list. As you stepped inside, the serene and peaceful atmosphere enveloped you, accompanied only by the gentle sounds of the countryside drifting through the open doors. The scent of hay and animals filled the air, creating a comforting and familiar aura. Without wasting a moment, you plugged in your earbuds, queued up an upbeat playlist, and found your rhythm. The music transported you into a world of focus and determination, as you swayed and hummed along, totally absorbed in your work.
Unbeknownst to you, Rip Wheeler had quietly entered the barn, observing your dedication with a mix of curiosity and intrigue. Wanting to catch your attention, he greeted you with a friendly "Hello there." Unfortunately, the music blasting through your earbuds prevented you from hearing his words, and you continued working, oblivious to his presence. Intrigued by your commitment, Rip decided to make himself known in a more direct way. He tilted his head, a mischievous smile forming on his lips, and approached you from behind. Out of the blue, Rip blew a soft puff of air through your hair, successfully startling you. As you turned around, your eyes met his, and a bewildered expression crossed your face as you struggled to process the unexpected interruption.
Your heart raced as you took in Rip's rugged features and piercing gaze. His mischievous blue eyes sparkled, causing a warmth to spread through your body despite the initial shock. It took a moment for words to form, but eventually, you managed to stutter out a greeting, "Oh… uh, hi. Sorry, I didn't hear you." Rip chuckled at your flustered response and took a step back, giving you some space. His deep, confident voice filled the barn as he assured you, "No need to apologize. I couldn't help but notice your enthusiasm. You really know how to put in the work."
Blushing, you quickly looked away, feeling a mix of embarrassment and pride at his words. You hadn't expected anyone, let alone the formidable foreman of the ranch, to witness your routine. Gathering your composure, you replied, "Thank you. I wanted to make a good impression." Rip's lips curled into a reassuring smile as the warm morning light streamed through the barn windows, softening his features. "Consider that mission accomplished. You've definitely caught my attention."
Your heart skipped a beat, unsure if his words were meant as a simple compliment or something more. Before you had a chance to dwell on it, Rip continued, his voice filled with genuine interest, "So, what brings you to the Dutton Ranch? Are you planning to stay long?" Pausing to gather your thoughts, you explained, "I just graduated from college, I needed a change of pace and my father just happens to be friends with Mr. Dutton and he thought me getting a job here would be an opportunity I was lucky enough to land a job here."
As you spoke, Rip's unwavering gaze remained fixed on you, intensifying your emotions. His interest felt genuine, and you couldn't help but feel grateful to your father for opening the doors to this incredible opportunity. The Dutton Ranch was a legendary place, and being a part of it was a dream come true. "Your father has excellent taste," Rip expressed, a hint of admiration lacing his words. "Working on this ranch is not just an ordinary job. It requires dedication and a love for the land. Do you have that love?"
You nodded, a small smile gracing your lips. "Absolutely. Nature's beauty and the peace that comes from working the land have captivated me since childhood. The Dutton Ranch provides the perfect opportunity to fully immerse myself in that way of life." Rip's eyes sparkled with understanding as he listened intently to your words. He admired the passion in your voice, knowing firsthand the profound fulfillment that could be found in ranching. As a trusted hand on the ranch and a friend to the Dutton family, he felt a responsibility to ensure that those who joined the ranch possessed the same devotion and connection to the land.
"Good," Rip replied, firmly nodding in agreement. "Working on the Dutton Ranch is more than just a job. It's about preserving a legacy, a way of life that has been passed down through generations." As you stood there, captivated by Rip's passionate speech about the ranch's significance, it suddenly dawned on you the true weight of his role on this land. He wasn't just another worker; he was the foreman, entrusted with overseeing every aspect of the ranch and ensuring its lasting prosperity.
A playful smile danced across your lips as you cast a teasing gaze down at Rip and remarked, "So, you're the foreman, huh? That means you're supervising me right now. And, if I'm not mistaken, you're actually giving me a lecture because you want me to grasp how important this land is to you. Am I close?" Rip couldn't contain his laughter at your playful comment, his ruggedly handsome face breaking into a wide grin. "Damn right you are," he replied, his eyes sparkling with warmth and affection.
You found yourself drawn to Rip's easy smile and genuine laughter, feeling a connection with him that you hadn't expected. His presence exuded strength and determination, but there was also a vulnerability hidden beneath the surface. It was as if he carried the weight of the land on his broad shoulders, shouldering the responsibility of preserving the ranch's heritage. Rip's eyes locked with yours as he leaned in closer, his voice dropping to a low, husky tone. "You have to understand," he began, his voice laced with emotion, "that this land, this ranch, it's more than just a job or a way of life. It's a part of who we are. It's in our blood, our very souls."
You could feel the intensity of his words resonating within you, awakening a sense of purpose that you hadn't yet realized existed. The Dutton Ranch was more than just a dream come true; it was a chance to be a part of something greater, to contribute to a legacy that stretched back through generations. Rip paused for a moment, studying your face with a mixture of curiosity and awe. "You have that fire in you," he murmured, his voice tinged with both admiration and a hint of skepticism. "But it remains to be seen if you have the grit and resilience required to survive in this harsh, beautiful land."
You found yourself lost in Rip Wheeler's deep, intense gaze as you locked eyes with him. There was an indescribable magnetism between the two of you that seemed to draw you closer together. As you continued to stare up into his piercing eyes, your own gaze gradually shifted downwards, causing a slight blush to spread across your cheeks. With each passing moment, you became acutely aware of just how close his face was to yours.
A sudden rush of nervousness and anticipation coursed through your veins, forcing your heart to beat a little faster. The cacophony of thoughts in your head intensified as you desperately tried to regain your composure. Amidst the chaos, one singular thought echoed over and over again like a broken record: keep it professional. Realizing the need to break the tension and refocus your attention, you cleared your throat, the sound cutting through the charged atmosphere. "Yeah, sure," you managed to stammer, attempting to compose yourself. "Whatever you say, Rip… I mean, sir."
The words tumbled out of your mouth in a rushed, breathless manner, betraying your inner turmoil. Despite your attempt to maintain a professional tone, the slip of calling him by his first name did not go unnoticed. Rip's rugged features softened slightly, revealing a hint of amusement dancing in his eyes. A small smirk tugged at the corner of his lips as he leaned in closer, his voice dropping to a low, husky timbre. "You can call me Rip, if you'd like," he replied, his words laden with an unspoken invitation. The sound of your own breath caught in your throat as you processed his unexpected response.
You stood there, face flushed with a mixture of embarrassment and amusement, as you took a step back from Rip Wheeler. The name seemed to have caught your attention, and you couldn't help but flash him a smile. "Rip! That's a really interesting name!" you exclaimed, trying to make conversation and perhaps distract yourself from the awkwardness of the situation. Rip raised an eyebrow at your comment, a hint of amusement playing at the corners of his lips. He studied you curiously, his piercing gaze leaving you slightly flustered. Your attempt to create some distance only seemed to entertain him more, and you couldn't help feeling slightly self-conscious under his scrutiny.
Just as you turned to walk away, your foot caught on something unseen, causing you to lose your balance. Before you knew it, you found yourself falling backward, much to your surprise, and landed hard on your ass with a resounding thud. The shock of the impact made you grunt involuntarily, unable to suppress the exclamation that slipped from your lips. "Fuck me running!" you blurted out, wincing at the realization of the inappropriate choice of words. Your eyes widened, mortified that such a phrase had escaped you in the presence of the enigmatic Rip Wheeler. The combination of shock, embarrassment, and pain made you want to sink into the ground as you prayed for it to all just disappear.
As you lay there, your heart racing and your cheeks flaming red, you could feel Rip's gaze on you. You braced yourself for his reaction, expecting him to either laugh or scold you. But instead, he simply smiled and extended a hand to help you up. "You okay there?" he asked, his voice low and soothing. You took his hand gratefully, feeling a jolt of electricity run through you as your fingers brushed against his rough skin. As he helped you to your feet, your eyes locked with his, and for a moment, time seemed to stand still. You could see the amusement in his eyes, but there was also something else there - something that made your heart skip a beat. You tried to look away, but his gaze was too intense, too captivating. And then, without warning, he leaned in closer and whispered in your ear, "I think we're going to get along just fine."
Your heart pounded in your chest as his warm breath caressed your ear, sending shivers down your spine. The world around you seemed to fade into the background, leaving only the two of you in that suspended moment of connection. It was as if an invisible bond had formed between you, drawing you closer together in ways you couldn't quite comprehend. His words hung in the air, the implications both thrilling and terrifying. What did he mean by "we're going to get along?" Was this just a friendly gesture or something more? You could feel the weight of his gaze, the intensity of his presence, and it made your mind race with possibilities.
As you stood there, the intensity of the moment enveloping you, a small smile began to tug at the corners of Rip's lips. It was a smile filled with promises and secrets, a smile that spoke volumes without uttering a single word. It was a smile that suggested this encounter was no mere coincidence. Rip released your hand, but the electric connection between you remained palpable and unbroken. His eyes traced over your flushed face, lingering on your lips for a fleeting moment before meeting your gaze once again. In his eyes, you could see a glimmer of challenge, a silent invitation that stirred something deep within you.
As a surge of adrenaline coursed through your veins, you felt a hitch in your breath. The ground beneath you felt unsteady, defying the laws of gravity. The world around you faded away, leaving only Rip's presence and the cacophony of your racing thoughts. In that moment, the air crackled with an intense energy, an unspoken tension that pulled you closer together. You took a hesitant step forward, unable to resist the magnetic force that Rip exuded. Anticipation spread through your body, mingling with the lingering pain from your recent fall.
Moving closer, your eyes locked once more, drawn to the magnetic pull between you like two celestial bodies in perfect orbit. Rip's gaze bore into yours, intense and unyielding, seemingly capable of penetrating through the barriers you had carefully constructed. It was a vulnerability that both thrilled and terrified you. Without breaking eye contact, Rip reached up, his hand coming to rest gently against your cheek. His touch was surprisingly tender, sending sparks of desire trailing along your skin. The world around you seemed to dissipate entirely, replaced only by the electricity of his touch and the magnetic pull between you.
The weight of his hand on your cheek called for a response, and instinctively, you leaned into his touch. A surge of heat spread through your body, igniting a fire that threatened to consume you. In this suspended moment, time stood still as you savored the tantalizing possibilities that hung in the air. But, as if on cue, the moment shattered with Jimmy's oblivious smile as he entered the barn. The air instantly became tense, disrupted by his presence and breaking the intimate atmosphere between Rip and you.
You tore your gaze away from Rip, feeling a pang of disappointment and confusion as reality crashed back in. It was as if a spell had been broken, and the world rushed back in with all its noise and chaos. Jimmy's obliviousness to the charged atmosphere between you and Rip only added to your frustration. He walked over to you, completely unaware of the connection you had just shared. "Hey, what's going on here? Did I interrupt something?" Jimmy asked, his brows furrowing with genuine concern. You shook your head, trying to clear the fog of desire that still clung to your thoughts. "No, nothing, just lost my footing for a moment. Rip was helping me up."
Jimmy gave a nod of understanding, though you could tell he still had a lingering suspicion that something had transpired. As he began to talk about the day's tasks and plans, you could hardly concentrate. Your mind was still spinning, replaying the intense moment between you and Rip. Were you reading too much into it? Or was there something more between you? Throughout the day, while completing your usual chores around the ranch, your mind kept wandering back to that electric moment in the barn. The memory of Rip's touch lingered on your skin, sending sparks of longing through your veins. You couldn't shake the feeling that there was unfinished business between the two of you.
As the sun began to sink below the horizon, casting hues of orange and pink across the sky, you found yourself standing by the horse stable, lost in your thoughts. Dusk painted a romantic backdrop, amplifying the emotions swirling within you. Suddenly, you felt a presence behind you, and before you could turn around, a deep voice filled the air. "I hope I didn't scare you away earlier," Rip said, his voice rough and soothing all at once. You felt a thrill run down your spine at the sound of his voice, turning around to find Rip leaning against a wooden beam of the stable. His dark hair was tousled from the wind, and his strong arms were crossed casually over his chest. There was a hint of vulnerability in his eyes, as if he too was grappling with the same magnetic pull between you.
A blush stained your cheeks as you met Rip's gaze, unable to form words in response. The electricity between the two of you crackled in the air, making it hard to breathe. Time seemed to stand still, as the world around you faded into the background. Breaking the silence, Rip took a step closer, his steady footsteps resonating with purpose. "I've been thinking about you all day," he confessed softly, his voice laced with a mixture of desire and uncertainty. As Rip's words hung in the air, you couldn't help but feel your heart quicken its pace. Each beat echoed in your ears, syncing with the rhythm of the moment. His honesty washed over you like a gentle breeze, causing goosebumps to rise on your arms. The vulnerability in his voice only served to deepen your connection.
You found it difficult to tear your gaze away from his mesmerizing eyes, which held a depth and intensity that drew you in. The setting sun cast a warm glow upon his features, accentuating the subtle contours of his face. As his lips curved into a tender smile, a surge of warmth flooded your chest. Step by step, Rip closed the distance between you, his movements deliberate and deliberate, almost as if he was afraid to shatter the fragile tension that hung delicately in the air. The wooden beam creaked slightly under his weight as he leaned against it, creating a symphony of sounds that further added to the atmosphere.
As his hand gently reached out, brushing a stray strand of hair behind your ear, a shiver coursed through your body. His touch was warm and reassuring, radiating a tenderness that felt both comforting and exhilarating. Time seemed to stand still, suspended in the gentle ebb and flow of the moment. His fingers trailed delicately down the curve of your cheek, leaving a trail of tingling sensations in their wake. You couldn't help but lean into his touch, craving more of his gentle caress. His hand then cupped your face, his thumb softly caressing your cheekbone, and your breath hitched in your throat. The weight of his touch was electrifying, sending a jolt of desire rippling through your body.
The proximity between the two of you became almost unbearable, yet you couldn't bring yourself to pull away. The anticipation hung heavy in the air, as if the slightest movement could send everything toppling over the edge. In this moment, it felt as though the whole world revolved around the two of you, locked in an intimate dance of emotions. Rip's eyes absorbed every detail of your face, as if he was committing it to memory. His gaze was so intense that it felt like he was unraveling every secret you held within, every hidden desire and vulnerability. It was both thrilling and terrifying, to have someone see you so completely, yet it was also a rare and beautiful gift.
In a breathless whisper, Rip's voice filled with a fiery passion. "I cannot resist you any longer," he murmured, his words igniting a blazing inferno in your heart. Anticipation crackled in the air, his lips drawing closer to yours, as you found yourself unable to resist the magnetic force between you. Just as his lips were about to meet yours, Lloyd's voice shattered the moment as he called out to Rip, breaking the spell that held you both captive. Both of you were abruptly taken aback, startled by the sudden interruption. Rip's hand swiftly fell from your face, and the charged atmosphere dissipated instantly. Lloyd's untroubled presence invaded the previously sacred space that had been established between you and Rip. His obliviousness to the gravity of the moment left you feeling frustrated and a bit embarrassed.
Rip swiftly regained his composure, his features returning to their usual stoic expression. "Yeah, Lloyd?" he replied, his voice giving away no hint of the desire that had recently consumed him. A pang of disappointment washed over you as you observed how easily he shifted gears, seemingly brushing off the connection that had formed between the two of you. Unaware of the lingering tension in the air, Lloyd moved closer. "Just wanted to let you know that dinner's ready," he cheerfully announced, oblivious to the emotional turbulence that lay just beneath the surface. With great effort, you nodded, fighting to regain your composure. "Thanks, Lloyd. We'll be there shortly," you managed to say, your voice revealing a slight tremor.
As Lloyd departed towards the main house, you turned to face Rip, desperately searching his eyes for any indication that he shared the same intensity that you felt. However, all you found was a guarded expression and a fleeting hint of regret that quickly vanished. "We should go," Rip suggested, his voice sounding distant and detached. It was as if the spell had been abruptly shattered, forcing the harsh reality of the world to come crashing back in. You nodded, unable to muster any words as you stood there, feeling the weight of missed opportunity and the ache of unfulfilled longing. But you knew that Rip was right—they had to go. Slowly, you both made your way back to the main house, where the fragrant aroma of a home-cooked meal filled the air.
As you entered the dining room, John glanced up and observed Rip and you as you made your way towards the table. Sitting beside each other, you cleared your throat and apologized for your tardiness. Explaining the situation, you shared, "Apologies for our delay; I had some chores to complete, and Rip kindly assisted me in finishing them, as I was struggling with a particular task. Isn't that right, Rip?" Rip nodded in agreement, his eyes briefly locking with yours as he confirmed your explanation. "Yes, that's right," he replied, his voice cool and collected. "It took longer than anticipated, but we managed to get it done."
John raised an eyebrow, his playful smile hinting at a knowingness that made your cheeks flush with embarrassment. "Well, glad you two could collaborate so efficiently," he chuckled, causing a ripple of laughter to pass through the rest of the group gathered around the table. It felt like a strange mixture of relief and discomfort, knowing that your secret rendezvous had been exposed, albeit in a lighthearted manner. Unable to shake off the lingering tension, you found it difficult to focus on the meal. Each bite seemed to stick in your throat, reminding you of the missed opportunity and the unspoken desires that were still lurking beneath the surface. The conversation at the table buzzed around you, but your mind kept drifting back to Rip, replaying the moment over and over again.
As the conversation around the dining room table continued, your mind wandered to Rip Wheeler, the rugged and handsome ranch hand who sat beside you. You couldn't help but notice the way his muscles bulged beneath his shirt as he leaned back in his chair, his eyes fixed on the conversation. Your heart skipped a beat as your gaze lingered on him, and a smile crept up on your face. Without thinking twice, you placed your hand on Rip's lap, and he turned his head to look at you.
You quickly unbuttoned his pants, and he raised an eyebrow, unsure of what was happening. Without a word, you slid your hand into his pants and wrapped it around his dick. Rip let out a low moan as you began to stroke him slowly and steadily. John Dutton regaled the group with a story, oblivious to the intimate act taking place right under his nose. Rip's dick was thick and hard in your hand, and you could feel his breath catching in his throat as you stroked him. You leaned in close to his ear, whispering words of encouragement and desire. "You're so big," you murmured, "I want to taste you."
As your hand continued to move up and down Rip's cock, you could feel his body tense and his breathing become more erratic. His eyes closed tightly as he let out a soft groan, his head tilting slightly to the side as he surrendered himself to the pleasure you were providing. You couldn't help but feel a rush of excitement and desire as you watched him lose control, his body responding to your touch in a way that left you breathless.
You leaned in closer, your lips brushing against Rip's ear as you whispered, "I want to feel you inside me. I want to be filled by your strength and your power." Rip's eyes snapped open, his gaze locking with yours as he realized the true nature of your request. As you turned your head and looked at John, you noticed the slight furrow in his brow and the curiosity in his eyes as he continued recounting his story. Taking a moment to clear your throat, you couldn't help but interrupt him. "I'm sorry, John," you began hesitantly, "for interrupting your, uh, story, but where's your bathroom? I, uh, have to use it."
John paused mid-sentence, his attention now fully focused on you. He contemplated your request for a moment before a smile tugged at the corner of his lips. "Oh, it's just down the hall to the left," he replied, his voice warm and accommodating. "First door on your right, can't miss it." As you turned your head and caught John's gaze, a mischievous smile played on your lips. You couldn't resist teasing him a little, especially since you knew Rip was watching. Clearing your throat you faked a perplexed expression and innocently asked, "Third door on the left, you say?"
John paused once again, his brow furrowing as he tried to make sense of your words. "No," he finally replied, shaking his head. "First door on the right." You pretended to suddenly understand, realizing that you had made a mistake. "Oh! The fifth door on the left," you declared confidently, causing a burst of laughter to escape from Rip. John looked at you, completely bewildered. He couldn't help but chuckle awkwardly "Uh, no, Rip," he said, gesturing towards you. "How about you show her where the bathroom is?"
Rip stood up, his voice laced with amusement as he replied, "Sure thing, John. I'll take her there." As he led you down the hall, your heart pounding in your chest, you couldn't help but feel a thrill of excitement. You wanted Rip more than anything in that moment, and you knew that once you were alone with him, there was no stopping what would happen next. Jimmy suddenly looked up from his plate and said, “Hey Rip, I can show (Y/N) where the bathroom is.” Rip narrowed his eyes at Jimmy, immediately killing the friendly atmosphere at the table. "Shut the fuck up, Jimmy," he growled. Lloyd's eyes shifted from Rip to you, trying to figure out what was going on. But as he watched the exchange between the two, something suddenly clicked in his mind. "Uh, you know what Jimmy, how about you let Rip show (Y/N) where the bathroom is," Lloyd suggested, trying to diffuse the situation.
As Rip led you down the hallway, your heart pounded in your chest, and your mind raced with anticipation. You couldn't help but feel a thrill of excitement as you followed him, every step bringing you closer to the fulfillment of your desires. The hallway was dimly lit, and the only sounds were the soft creaking of the floorboards beneath your feet and the faint hum of the air conditioning unit. As you reached the door at the end of the hall, Rip turned to face you, his eyes locked onto yours. You could see the desire and hunger in his gaze, and it sent shivers down your spine. Without a word, he pushed open the door and stepped inside, beckoning you to follow.
The bathroom was small and cramped, but it was enough to satisfy your needs. The walls were a dull gray, and the floor was tiled in a mosaic pattern that sparkled in the dim light. Rip closed the door behind you, his back pressed against it as he looked down at you. You could see the hunger in his eyes as he took in your appearance, his gaze lingering on your curves and your full lips. Without a word, Rip reached out and pulled you closer, his hands gripping your waist as he pulled you into him. His lips met yours in a fierce kiss, his tongue darting into your mouth as he deepened the embrace. You could feel his arousal pressing against your thighs as he ground himself against you, his hands roaming over your body as he explored every inch of you.
As he lifted you up onto the sink counter, Rip's hands traveled down to your thighs, his fingers tracing delicate patterns on your skin. You moaned softly as he slid one finger between your legs, his touch sending shivers through your body. He continued to explore every inch of you with his fingers, his touch sending waves of pleasure through you with each passing moment. As Rip's fingers moved faster and faster, you could feel yourself nearing the brink of ecstasy. You wrapped your legs around him tightly, pulling him closer as he continued to explore every inch of you with his fingers. Suddenly, Rip's lips found their way back to yours as he kissed you deeply, his tongue exploring every inch of your mouth as he brought you over the edge.
With a sudden urgency, Rip lifted you up and set you down on the floor, his hands moving quickly to unfasten his pants. You watched in anticipation as he stepped out of them, revealing his arousal in all its glory. Without a word, Rip took hold of your hips and pulled you closer, his arousal pressing against your core. You could feel the heat between your bodies as he entered you, his movements slow and deliberate at first before picking up speed. As Rip's movements grew more frenzied, you could feel yourself nearing the brink once again. You wrapped your legs around him tightly, pulling him closer as he continued to move within you. Suddenly, Rip's body stiffened, and he let out a loud groan as he came within you. You felt his body shudder against yours as he collapsed onto the floor beside you, spent and satisfied.

Ch 3 - Wasting All These Tears On You

Ryan’s POV
Ryan was talking to his girlfriend, Laramie as he had been seeing her for a few weeks as he heard her ask about Y/N “oh her, she was a dumb fling. I just used her and got what i wanted from her then i met you honey” He says softly, kissing her cheek gently and lovingly because he was happier with her and loved her more than anything which made him forget about the girl who had been in love with him for a while but he had taken her virginity then he left her after he had done so “She is the foreman’s kid, so that’s why i slept with her. Just so that she would leave me alone, and stop being around me” He says softly, unaware of Y/N listening to the conversation
Ryan kissed Laramie softly, his hand resting on the small of her back because he loved spending time with her and everything else before they started on their work for the day “Love you cowgirl, gonna take you up to the river after we finish doing our daily work. Now go on and get your pretty self up on that horse and head out. I will be there soon enough little darling, love you” He repeated, his hair was tucked under his cowboy hat which was a black stetson that he had bought with his first check from working the ranch
Ryan was mounting his horse, running a hand through his hair as he swung his leg over the saddle as he wasn’t paying attention when he mumbled under his breath “Stupid girl, thinking that she would even have a chance with me. She’s just the foreman’s kid and she was just a quick lay to me.” He says, not knowing that Y/N had been listening since he wasn’t exactly quiet about it as he rode his horse out of the barn quietly as he didn’t even pay attention when he left the barn after he got his horse saddled and the tack put on correctly as he rode over to Laramie and kissed her despite Y/N being there and seeing everything after he had said those things about her without a single ounce of remorse and care in the world as he rode off to the pasture where he was usually working with the other hands. He wasn’t working with Rip because Rip had decided to take a break from work, and spend some time with his family as he sighed softly while he rode the horse at a medium speed and trot.
Y/N’s POV
Standing outside the bunkhouse I started to go inside until I heard Ryan talking with someone. Actually he was doing much more than talking from what I heard. Wrapping my hand around the door knob I opened the door seeing him tangled up in the bed with one of the barrel rodeo girls. "Son of a bitch, Ryan!" I cursed making them both break away.
"Well, well, guess she didn't agree with you, she was just another lay." The girl lying with him scoffed.
Ryan attempted to get his pants that were laying on the ground. Clutching my hands into fists at my sides I felt tears starting to fall down my face. "You are a sick liar…I never should have trusted you."
"Y/n, come on. I didn't mean anything like that." He attempted to explain but I wasn't going to hear it.
"Go to the train station!" Turning on my heels back towards the door more tears were falling down my cheeks at this point. I couldn't believe that I was so stupid to think he cared for me. Grabbing his boots off the floor I chucked them harshly towards his face where he had to duck. Then I slammed the door behind me running up to the main house and into the living room closing the door to cry on the wooden floor.
Comments really appreciated ❤️

hi ! happy random robin thoughts thursday !!
k so thinking about drunk robin today.
• she would be all over you, leaning on you, laying her head on your lap or your shoulder, kissing your cheek, wrapping her arms around your middle. she’d have to be touching you at all times
• she is a very giggly and sappy drunk. she’ll tell you that she thinks your eyes are the most beautiful things she’s ever seen and break out in a fit of laughter over something kind of stupid in the same sentence
• she and steve definitely get up to some shit while they’re drunk, so you’ve got to keep a close eye on them
• putting her to bed at the end of the night is so hard because all she wants to do is cuddle you and be near you, but you have to leave the room to get makeup remover, a fresh pair of pjs, etc. she makes you swear that you’re gonna come back every time you leave
• she is a bit of a baby when she’s hungover. you have to dote on her and bring her water and painkillers for her head and spend the morning cuddling her as she moans and groans about her headache
•overall, drunk robin is just cuddly, lovey, giggly and i need her in my life
-hauser anon
god these are so good!
you’re so right about her and steve getting up to shit, i fully stand by my headcanon that robin befriends random pets and animals when she’s drunk (she picks up a pigeon one time then cries because she’s convinced she’ll catch bird flu)
i’m gonna add that:
-> she definitely gets teary when she can’t find you at parties and regularly is brought back to you by a more sober friend like a little kid lost in a shopping centre, all sniffly and clingy when she finally gets back to you shsjs
-> i want to listen to her rambling drunk because she has even less control over what starts coming out her mouth and her voice is even more raspy and she starts randomly speaking foreign languages but it’s definitely about how good you look and sometimes you’ve got to cup her cheeks and remind her to breathe (then make her drink some water)
-> one of those drunks that is convinced she can pull off olympic gymnastics - she’s clumsy enough as is
“wanna see me do a handstand?”
“robin, come here and take my hand.”
ty again you’re always brilliant!
send me ur random robin thoughts!

*~*~*~*
The roses are wilting.
It was destiny, fate. Such pretty things never last forever, after all, even if the entire universe wished otherwise. One way or another, they are meant to fall, like how the sun drops below where anyone can see it, being replaced with the moon, and vice versa. They fall deep, deeper than hell itself, and no one can pick them back up, unless one would be inclined to make a pact with the devil himself, doing horrendous things in his name. But Kafka has already committed such sins, so why deny doing so any longer? It is who she is. It is who you are, to be entangled in her lies and be forced to dance and to sing and to act.
With two gloved hands, she picks up the vase, spilling out the moldy water and the dying roses, the roses she got for you after you sang so well at the opera house, looking so beautiful, into the trash can underneath your makeup vanity, where little clumps of hair and emptied products always meet their end.
She’ll get you a new bouquet later. A new vase too. Perhaps instead of white roses you would like red ones instead? Kafka knows that this vase is cheap too, from one of your fellow divas, whose high notes are not as high as yours and her costumes not as elaborate or as elegant as yours.
“I honestly don’t see why you even try to befriend any of them, darling. They are all envious harpies. They can’t hold a candle to anything you do.”
You are not here, but Kafka’s mouth always has a mind of its own, so it spins lies even when your delicate, lovely ears are not in the general vicinity. Not that she minds it. But yours is what she is quite more so than trifles with, because yours is carefully controlled by her and her alone, and you, as always, don’t get a say. It’s a sort of hypocrisy, Kafka thinks, but she doesn't mind that either.
If she has to, she’ll even sew your mouth shut, your ears shut, your eyes shut, if that is what it takes for you to stay with her. She doubts it would ever come to that, though, because you are always too fragile and too trusting to tell the difference between an Iago and a Desdemona. But the latter role would much better suit you, her little flower, her princess.
You are so precious, but also a treasure prying eyes will always want to touch and see and hear. Kafka would, in all honesty, love to cut their hands and tongues off, if it did not ruin the carefully crafted image she made just for you. Maybe later, though, when all the stage lights are off.
“Lady Macbeth, hmm?” She murmurs.
She disagrees with the role you were given entirely. But, you were not one to stand up for yourself, so Kafka let it go.
“You really ought to leave this business soon, dearest.” Kafka looks around, her arms crossed, not impressed with the room you were given in the slightest. “You can always just come with me.” She meant it. “Imagine all the sights you would see. All the food you would eat. All the gifts I would be so happy to give you. All the hugs and kisses you would receive from me. Everything… just think about it.”
She could imagine it herself. It is not hard, really, for the mind to reject all sense of logic and bow down to the whim of what is known as human emotions, mortal joys, woes, desires, wants, and needs. She could imagine sitting you on her lap as the ship jumps to the next world she will have to visit, telling you stories of the past, present, and future, as you look on with amazement. You don’t do that anymore, now. She would do anything to see it come back. She would steal a crown and place it on your head, though you having the genuine article does not make you any stronger. If anything, perhaps it would make you weaker to her whims.
“Imagine that…” She sighs, closing her eyes as she smiles. “We can go to Penacony. Your dreams would come true there if I cannot make them true myself. You can sleep on beds worth more than this entire opera house. If only you would let me. I know it would make you happy. I know it would make me happy. So why wouldn’t it make you?”
She would listen to your ultimate pains, and your ultimate wishes, and act accordingly. She loved you. You will too, again. It is only a matter of time, isn’t it? Yes, Kafka thinks, it is fate.
Kafka always sits in the front row of the theater.
It does not matter whether or not she purchased the tickets for it, the seat, or the show soon to come to fruition. No one dares talk back to her, even security. She finds comfort in that. No one gets in the way of her having the chance to see you. Better yet, no one else sits in the front row when she is present.
So, she watches, one of her legs crossed over the other, her eyes never blinking. During interludes she likes to adjust her makeup accordingly, painting on another shade of crimson to her lips. Art comes in many forms, after all.
Kafka told you that once. As always, you listened dutifully as she taught you to be.
She taught you many things, not just that. She taught you how to read constellations. She helped you learn her vocabulary in the books she gave you, often long fairytales or poems. She preferred it that way when you used to be so eager to have someone be friendly to you and not want to simply use you for their own amusement, not wanting to throw you out of the opera house altogether.
The opera house may rot after it goes up in flames, in the future, if things go her way as it always does, but she’ll stay to watch it all, to take you in as you cry and as she shushes you. She’ll be happy. Maybe you will be too, for her. It matters how good your performance is, if you even want to act anymore, after all.
The lights dim, and she shows her pearl-white teeth as she grins.

A King's Home Is His Castle (Admiral!Bob Floyd x Reader)
Tumblr media
Summary: You and Bob have worked so hard to build lives for yourselves and for your family and despite what others say, home will always be a special place for you, Bob and your little ones.
Warnings: Misogynistic remarks from a Naval officer, language, Admiral Bob popping off and pulling rank etc.
Tagging: @bradleybeachbabe @sebsxphia @floralfloyd and any other mutuals who have kept me going since day one. Guys, this is for you
Bob couldn't really stand having to go to half of these Navy functions, especially now since the weather was shitty and everyone was coming down with seasonal illnesses. Already he could feel the onset of it, the scratchiness in his throat, the body aches and pains, the swollen nodes in his neck and the achy wetness that had settled in his chest.
The last place Bob had wanted to be was at the Seaport Hotel, his clammy skin pricking with goosebumps under his Navy dress blacks as the snow had begun to fall. In he went, heading to the ballroom where all the other Navymen and women had gathered to celebrate Cyclone's birthday. Good God he felt terrible, just plain sick and terrible.
"Admiral Floyd!" boomed a gravely, deep voice. "Good to see you."
"Admiral Hauser," Bob greeted, shaking his hand. "Likewise."
"How's the family?"
"Never better," Bob said with a smile. "(Y/N) and I are excited, we've got a new little one due in a month."
"Good on ya kid," Admiral Hauser replied. "I'll see if I can bring back a case of cigars from Southeast Asia when my carrier crew ships out for duty."
"Oh that's right," Bob said, suddenly remembering. "You're training with the Royal Thai Navy SEALS aren't you?"
"None other," Admiral Hauser chuckled. "Admiral Nataya said he wants his units in shape for duty and that's what we're gonna do."
Bob and Admiral Hauser shared a few good laughs, but it couldn't do much to suppress the annoying tickle in his throat.
"Jeez Bob, you look like hell," Jake remarked.
"I feel like it," Bob answered, taking a deep breath and letting it out. "I think Auggie caught something at school and brought it home."
"Uh oh, speaking of diseases," Jake muttered under his breath. "Here comes one right now."
"Oh God no," Bob whispered.
Sure enough it was, Admiral Terrance Hamilton, the bane of the unit's existence. Bob couldn't stand the prick for the life of him let alone work with him. The shithead had already gone completely grey, the results of self-induced stress and problems that had been of his own creation. A bore to the enth degree, Admiral Hamilton talked excessively of finance, a hobby of his that seemed to overtake his mind, a man unable to understand the outside interests of others. He had profusely made fun of Bob for enjoying books that weren't about hard, cut and dry facts and couldn't stand the fact that Bob and the other Daggers had chosen to send their children to a school where creativity and imagination were the prime focus of the curriculum. Hell, Hamilton had even gone so far as to make lewd and rather unseemly jokes about (Y/N) Floyd, Bob's beloved wife and the mother of his children. Bob could practically smell the arrogance radiating off the man as he approached, the self-righteous gleam in his eyes and the stiffness of his perfectly pressed Navy dress blacks.
"Admiral Floyd," Hamilton greeted, shaking Bob's hand.
"Admiral Hamilton," Bob said with a rather curt politeness. "How are you?"
Hamilton replied with only a scoffing chuckle. "How do you think I'm doing?" he questioned. "I've been dealing with a passive aggressive woman who can't seem to wrap her head around what's going on lately."
Bob only nodded and gave him a polite smile. He could feel the cold negativity creeping in under his skin. "Sorry to hear that," was all Bob said.
"Ah, there's nothing that can be done," Hamilton answered with a wave of his hand. "How about the wife?"
"We're uh.....we're getting ready for a new baby in the family," Bob told him. "This is our fourth."
"Hah!" Hamilton laughed. "Must be doing something right if you can keep her full of you."
Bob and Jake cast a glance at each other, scrunching their eyebrows together. "I beg your pardon sir?" Bob asked.
"Can't keep her off you huh?" Hamilton said with a chuckle. "Sweet and demure on the outside but a fiend in the bedroom?"
"Sir I'm sorry but I don't....."
"It's a joke," Hamilton cut in.
"Doesn't seem like a joke to me," Jake said rather coldly.
"Oh c'mon Seresin," Hamilton chuckled. "Laugh a little bit. That's not the worst you've heard I'm sure."
Bob could feel the heat filling his face and something coiling in his chest. The audacity of this man.....the pure, sheer audacity to make those remarks and in public of all places!
"So I hear the boy's in school huh?" Hamilton enquired.
"Yes," Bob answered, swirling the amber whiskey and half melted ice cubes in his glass. "Just started the kindergarten program at the Waldorf school near where we live. The rest of the squad's kids are in his class as well."
"One of those hippie schools I presume," Hamilton said, scoffing a little. "If I had kids I wouldn't pay to have them waste their education on art and music."
Oh now he was getting mad. Bob knew that there was nothing worse in the world than feeling sick and angry all at once. He couldn't tell if it was heat from his sore throat or from the anger that boiled in his blood, but something was about to boil over.
"You said your on what? Your fourth kid too?"
"Yes."
"Jeez," Hamilton sniffed. "I'd have no patience for that, a bunch of kids running around the house screaming, talking back and being undisciplined. And let me guess, your little wifey wants a whole baseball team?"
That was it......that was officially the straw that had broken the camel's back. Jake saw a flash in Bob's eyes as Bob calmly took a sip of his whiskey, never once breaking eye contact with the slimy little twerp.
"Let me tell you something Admiral Hamilton.....Sir," Bob said, sharply emphasizing the last word. "Do you have any idea what family actually means or are you just that blind and ignorant?"
"Sorry?"
"You have no idea what (y/n) and I have been through in our eight years of marriage so far," Bob said icily. "You don't have a clue what we've both given up to be together and to build the lives we have now. In fact I think you might be a little bit jealous."
"Jealous?" Hamilton questioned.
"Yes, jealous," Bob answered sharply. "Because you walked all over the people who have tried to help you, the very same people you deemed to be out to get you because you always thought you were in the right about everything."
"Admiral Floyd, I....I never...." Hamilton chuckled nervously.
"And another thing too," Bob interrupted. "You've always been jealous of what everybody else has. I've heard you, day after day complain about people that are married, have kids or have this or that. Don't think I haven't heard you complain about Lieutenant Avery and her wife celebrating fifteen years together or Lieutenant Parker and his husband finally adopting a kid they've been fighting for, for the last year and a half or even Admiral Seresin and his wife, Rachel, celebrating their own wedding anniversary."
Admiral Hamilton simply froze, a dead look in his eyes and unable to speak.
"One more thing," Bob said, the heated hardness in his tone becoming obvious. "If I ever and I mean ever.......catch you making unseemly remarks about my wife or any of the other Navy wives every again, I'll make sure that your Navy career is ruined and that your reputation has a huge yellow stain. Hell, that might even be a good nickname for you, now that I think about it. How do you like that Admiral Seresin?
"I'm starting to think that's not such a bad idea," Jake said with a huge, shit-eating grin crawling across his face. "Old Yellow-Stain....it's got a nice ring to it."
He could see that Hamilton was fuming, Bob having hit him right where it hurt the most.
"You think you're better than everybody else don't you?" Hamilton fumed. "If it's one think I can't stand it's privleged little pricks who think they're better than everybody else."
"So you?" Bob questioned, raising his eyebrows.
Hamilton's face began to turn bright red.
"Sorry Admiral," Bob said, his cheeky, lopsided grin forming on his face. "But the only person you're hurting is yourself."
Oh could he feel the anger beginning to radiate from the insulted Admiral, his eyes were like ice, his eyebrows turned down in a scowl that would have a brand new seaman running scared.
"So might I propose a toast," Bob said. "To Admiral Hamilton, the greatest insult to the Navy since Admiral Richmond K. Turner."
It was a split second before Bob flung the remaining whiskey in his glass into Hamilton's face, the slimy gimp's jaw hanging open in shock as the amber liquid ran down his face and dripped onto his dress uniform. Admiral Hamilton huffed and stormed off, leaving the ballroom and the two other higher ranking Admirals in his wake.
"Well that went over like a fart during Christmas Mass," Jake laughed.
Bob laughed but it was interrupted by a bone cracking wet cough.
"Alright," Jake said. "What do you say we stay for the cutting of the cake and then go home?"
Bob grimaced and nodded, trying to take in a breath. They stayed just a little while longer before at last, they were able to jump in Jake's truck and head for home.
The snow was coming down a little bit harder, the plows just having gone by and the heat blasting as music played from Jake's phone in the cupholder.
"Nice pop-off by the way," Jake chuckled.
"That actually felt really good," Bob laughed.
"You got nasty though! I'm proud!" Jake exclaimed.
They laughed the whole way home until Jake pulled in the driveway, the two huge Victorian homes side by side in what was known as "Admiral's Village". Bob gathered his cap and walked along the sidewalk, up the path and onto the front porch where he lived with you and your children. Much to his surprise, the lights were still on inside which meant that the babies would still be awake, more so if school was called off the next day.
He opened the door and headed inside, the house warm and cozy and the smell of a fresh dinner wafting from the kitchen. The scritching of nails on the hardwood floor signaled the arrival of the family dogs, Tank, Bandit and the two newest additions to your family, a little black Scottish terrier that Auggie had named Jock, and a little Pekingese puppy you and Bob had named Dolly after she had been found outside the Dolly Madison house in DC. She was still so tiny, only half the size of Jock and dwarfed in comparison to the others.
Bob gave them all the scritches they could possibly ask for, scooping Dolly up off her stubby little legs and into the curve of his elbow before he made his way into the kitchen.
There you were, just having seated Auggie, Patrick and Diedre at the table, the smell of a warm, freshly roasted chicken out of the oven and resting in the pan on the stove while the smell of your homemade cinnamon spice cake cooling on the counter.
"DADDY!!!!!!" The babies chirped as they practically jumped off their seats at the table.
"Come give me hugs babies!" Bob laughed as Dolly sprang to the floor, leaving him to throw his arms around your children and litter their cheeks with kisses.
"Baba! Baba I want kissy!" Diedre demanded as she tried to push past her brothers.
"C'mere princess," Bob chuckled, scooping her up off her feet and pressing a big, wet kiss to her cheek which made her giggle.
Bob looked over at you in your burgundy colored shawl sweater, He could almost feel the hot flush himself, though it might have been due to the burning clump of mucous in his throat more than anything else.
"There's my handsome king of the castle," you teased as you took each other in your arms.
Bob pressed a sweet kiss to your lips before nuzzling your cheeks. "Sorry sweet cheeks," he said. "I think I'm getting sick."
"I'll say," you remarked, holding the back of your hand to his forehead. "You're warmer than usual. Auggie must've brought something home from school."
"Sorry if I get you sick sweetheart," he apologized.
"Oh Bob c'mon," you assured him. "I teach at that same school and my first graders this year still don't know how to cover their mouths."
Bob laughed a little before the coughing caught him again. You called the babies back into the kitchen to come and get their plates, plating everyone's dinners before you, Bob and the little ones were all seated in the dining room. Once grace was said, the five of you dug right in and went back and forth about how the day and evening's events had gone.
"How was the birthday celebration for Cyclone?" you asked him.
"Well," Bob said before finishing the last bite of asparagus. "Funny you should ask that."
He explained every little bit about what had happened, even the parts that he knew might upset you. Yet despite the awful remarks made by one of the naval commanders, you remained level headed and calm.
"You watch," you chuckled. "He'll say the wrong thing at the wrong time and Hamilton's Navy career will be over."
Once dinner was eaten, you loaded the dishes into the dishwasher, cleaning up and putting away the leftovers for the next day while Bob lit a fire in the living room fireplace. He went away upstairs to switch into something more comfortable, the flannel pjs you had gotten him for Christmas the year before.
You made him a hot green tea, slipping in one of your herb packets for seasonal illnesses and let it steep before handing it off to him. "Mommy! Mommy!" Auggie chirped, bouncing with excitement as he tried to hand you one of the books off the shelf. "Can we read a story?"
"Go right by the fireplace and we'll read a story before bed ok?" you told him. "I've gotta get Daddy settled first."
Auggie giggled and ran off to get nice and warm by the fireplace, all three of the kids having just slipped into their pjs and dragging a blanket and their favorite stuffie down from their bedrooms.
“Chivalry!---why, maiden, she is the nurse of pure and high affection---the stay of the oppressed, the redresser of grievances, the curb of the power of the tyrant ---Nobility were but an empty name without her, and liberty finds the best protection in her lance and her sword.” You read.
You, Bob and the babies were completely engrossed in Ivanhoe, the strange and wonderful tale of a Saxon knight and his adventures during the reign of Richard The Lionheart. He loved the way you read, your voice comforting and soft, like the cozy wool throw blanket he had wrapped himself in. Bob didn't care what anyone said. He loved nights like this, when you and him would gather around the fire with the babies to read to them before bed, losing yourselves in the adventures, fantasy and fun of it all.
It wasn't long before the babies had all fallen asleep with Bob carrying them upstairs, one at a time and not wanting you to hurt yourself since his sister had insisted on no heavy lifting at all. Once they were all asleep, it was just you and him, the two of you on the comfy old sofa in the living room, warming yourselves by the fire and his big, gentle hand rubbing soft circles on your obvious bump.
"Jeez (y/n) he's going nuts," Bob chuckled, feeling the tiny little feet kicking against his palm.
"He knows it's you," you hummed happily, a lazy smile worn on your face as you leaned against Bob and relaxed into his touch.
Bob bent a little lower and pressed a loving kiss to your bump. "I love you my precious boy," he whispered. "You, your momma and your brothers and sister mean everything to me."
You both snuggled close together, letting the troubles of the day run off like rain on a roof. The snow kept falling hard outside, but the warmth and coziness of your home enveloping the two of you fully as you and your husband fell asleep with the fire crackling away through the night. When you woke up the next morning, greeted by the look of pure love on Bob's face, you were both grateful beyond words for each other and the life you had built.

Officially finished with all the requests in my ask box 😊
Coming back from town I shut the drivers door to my truck and gasped seeing someone I thought was gone from my life for good. Twisting the fabric of my jacket I gulped recognizing my ex boyfriend Mike who had to leave home when his mother got really sick. But he couldn’t get over the fact that I wouldn’t leave my family home to be with him. Mike was leaned up against the wooden post smiling at me yet all I felt from him was terror now. “Long time no see huh Y/n. I’ve been missing you something horrible in case you were wondering.”
“I’m not sorry to say that I haven’t missed you. What exactly are you doing here, Mike?” I questioned him crossing my arms across my chest slowly walking towards him but I avoided his gaze for the most part.
He pushed himself off the wooden stair railing coming toward me until we were almost pressed up against one another and I could smell some alcohol on his breath. “You should know exactly why I am here. I mean we did spend almost four years together. If my mother hadn’t gotten sick then I would have never left you and your beautiful body-“
“Don’t touch me, Mike. I thought you would have got my message after I ignored your hundreds of texts and the picture of me that I’m not even sure how you got them when you were supposed to be back in Texas.” He reached his hand up trying to tuck hair behind my ear but I smack his hand away before he could touch me.
Mike smirked down at me before he grabbed me by the waist and shoving me against the side of the stairs making me grunt at the impact. He ripped my shirt off of my body and it got covered in mud while I tried to kick him in between his legs. Yet he elbowed me in the gut and smashed his lips onto mine growing against my grunts. “You are mine and don’t ever think that anyone else deserves you. Nobody else can take care of you like I can. You belong to me - urgh!”
“Kayce…” I collapsed onto the dirt ground rummaging around and managing to get the shirt off the dirt ground seeing it was my younger brother who had pulled him off of me.
My brother sucker punched Mike to the dust before he could blink and he was covered in quite a few stains of blood and bruises. Kayce came over to me when I noticed that Mike had blacked out from how hard he had hit him, he pulled out his dialing my boyfriend Rip. “Rip, somebody came after my sister Y/n. I’m gonna check her out but thought you should know.”
“Kayce, I don’t know how he found Mel but he did. I can’t believe that I didn’t think he would. Is he..dead?” Holding the back of my head I drew my hand back seeing some blood on my finger tips. “Shit, he got me harder than I thought.”
Kayce bent down on a knee sweeping me up from the ground and into his arms bridal style and carried me inside my bedroom inside the main house. He comes back with a wet rag and had me press it to the the wound on the back of my head just watching me for a few minutes in silence. “Rip should be here in a second. He just saw my phone call. Can I get you anything, sis?”
“Nah I think I’m good.” I shifted the pillow trying to get comfortable hearing someone running up the wooden stairs meaning it had to be Rip for sure.
The door creaked open and he rushed to my bedside when my brother stepped out of the way knowing I would find more comfort with him now. Yet Kayce still stayed in the doorway watching our conversation just in case I needed extra help. “Sweetheart, where is the asshole whole thinks he can hurt you and not pay the consequences?”
“Rip, don’t worry about Mike. I’m fine and my head only hurts a little. Look, the bleeding has stopped.” Pulling the rag away I showed him the dry blood on it but he wouldn’t take that as a good enough answer.
He shook his head lifting his hands up to the sides of my face cradling it like I was a piece of valuable china that royalty would use. Too afraid he might break me but he never could do such a thing. "I just need to know that you aren't hurt. That asshole...he should have never laid a hand on you in the first place."
"I'll have the police arrest him for attempted rape." Kayce turned on his heels to leave.
Shooting forward upright in the bed I winced where Rip rubbed my back, trying to ease the pain. "Kayce wait. Jail doesn't excuse all the pain he gave me. He's...he's been stalking me since the day we broke up. He will just keep coming until he thinks I'm getting back together with him."
"No way in hell!" My brother spat in disgust.
Holding my hands up in front of me I cut them off before either of them could protest any further. "Woah, hang on. I'd never go back with someone like him. What I am saying is that I want him to be gone. Gone where he can't hurt anyone else...to the train station."
"We can do that. Right Rip?" Kayce asked our fathers top ranch hand.
Rip leans forward kissing the crown of my head gently wrapping his arms around my waist holding me against his safe embrace. "Done deal, darling. He'll go to the train station."
"I love you...both of you." Lifting my head up a little I shifted my gaze from my brother and back to Rip's brown eyes.
He smiled before I wrapped my arms around his neck and gripped the fabric of his jacket in my fingers letting some tears fall hearing him whispering in my ear the moment Kayce had left the room. "I love you too, Y/n."

Sharing a joint before coming home was not the smartest decision you’d made in your career as a high school student. The haziness had left your limbs heavy and your mind up in the clouds, your bed so incredibly inviting. In fact, so inviting that the moment you stepped into your room, you had curled up into your bed and nuzzled into the blankets.
Your body was heavy, but floating. All you could think about was Angus Tully, a smile spreading as your fingers pressed against your lips. You were lost in your imagination, mind stuck on wondering what it would feel like with his lips pressed against yours. How his body would feel pressed over yours, hands in his wild curls, legs wrapped around his hips so he’s flush against you. Heavy breaths and the taste of weed on your lips as your tongues brushed together.
Soon, you were far in a dreamless nap until you heard the clanking of pots and pans from the kitchen—your mother cooking dinner. The sleep had left you disoriented, your hair in a mess and arms achy from passing out in an uncomfortable position. You wished to fall asleep again.
With the evening sun moving down into the horizon and the night sky daring to take over, you couldn’t will yourself to get out of bed. All your mind could focus on was the day you’d just had, and you were nearly content with laying back down and imagining it all over again. The afternoon you’d spent with Angus and how you couldn’t wait to see him again, even with the plans of a party falling through.
You would see him at some point, but when and where?
Without the effects of weed, you were left with a knot in your stomach, a reminder of how nervous you were about the situation. It was easier to be inebriated and forget about the harsh reality of Angus being a ‘taken’ man, versus you being sober and seeing Elise’s face burned into your head every time you closed your eyes.
Eventually, after a few minutes of fighting off the urge to sleep and reminding yourself you wasted precious time, you forced yourself up in your bed and rubbed away the tiredness in your eyes. It took a forceful push for you to crawl out of bed and placing your feet on your carpeted floor, wiggling your toes as you slowly woke up and came back into your consciousness.
You wobbled over to your dresser and reached to your record player, putting the tonearm down and placing the needle onto the record–Dreamboat Annie by Heart. Your all-time favourite record.
The best decision you made since coming home was a hot shower that nearly burned your skin, ending it off with a quick rinse of cold water to jolt you awake from the grogginess that had consumed you. Music played through the closed door of your adjoined bathroom, lucky enough to score a better bedroom than Mitch, your younger brother. Softly singing along to the muffled sounds of Crazy on You, you dried off your body and let your wet hair cling to your damp skin, eyes looking over your body in the foggy mirror. You often tried not to look at yourself too much in mirrors, a practice that was ingrained into you as a young child from your mother reprimanding you from being ‘too vain’–ah, the joys of living in a catholic household.
Then, before you could act in vain, the pounding of someone knocking on your bedroom door furiously took your attention, and you wondered if your mother found out about you smoking with Angus and Slater. You hurriedly finished drying your body and moved back into your bedroom with the towel wrapped around you, body shivering at the difference in air temperature.
“What?” You snapped at the bothersome knocking, pressing your ear against the door, expecting your mother’s voice and the imminent disapproval of your actions.
“Angus is outside,” your brother’s voice spoke. He sounded tired, but you remembered he’d just gotten home from his baseball game–meaning you hardly had anytime before Kaye would be showing up.
And here you were, in a towel, and the boy you’d been dreaming about waiting for you outside.
“Fuck,” you whined, hearing the footsteps of your brother move away, “thanks for letting me know!”
You panicked in your room, looking around as you dropped the towel and quickly dug in your dresser for clothes, anything remotely decent for the party. It was hard to slip on with your damp skin, but you’d eventually managed to get into high-waisted denim bell-bottoms and a cropped, flower-print halter top that exposed your belly. It even managed to make you look bustier than normal, you wouldn’t complain about that.
Your hair was still wet as you unlocked your bedroom door and made way for the front, spotting a shadowy figure through the small window on the door. Taking a calming, deep breath, you reached for the door handle and slowly opened it, peaking out of it first before committing to stepping outside.
Immediately, your eyes settled on Angus, the tall, lanky boy leaning against the column that held up the awning over the front door. Those brown eyes flickered up to look at you, a delighted smile adorning his lips as he pushed off the column and shoved his hands into his pockets. With a breathy, nervous laugh, you fully stepped outside and closed the door behind you, pressing your weight back against it as you forced yourself to meet his piercing gaze.
“What are you doing here?” You asked, hands tucked behind your body and fidgeting with them as you kept steady breaths.
“I brought Mitch back from his ball game and wanted to see what you were up to,” he replied, still grinning shyly, “I know it’s only been a couple of hours, but I was here already. So, yeah… just wanted to pop-in.”
There was that awkward side of him again, a part of him you saw when no one else was around. A shy, awkward kid that you could only imagine was most of his personality when he was younger and far before he’d made it as a popular football player. Though, it was all speculation, you still hadn’t known much about his younger self—you’d love to know.
“Thanks for bringing him back… Did they get him?” You asked, cringing at the mere thought of your younger brother getting caught by the senior boys, exposed to harsh paddling.
“Uh, yeah, unfortunately.” Angus pulled his eyes away, “Kountze is such a prick, I told your brother to ice up for a bit or else he’d be having a hard time sitting for a few weeks.”
“At least he’s home now,” you sighed, arms crossed over your body as you sympathized with your brother’s pain.
Silence rose between you two, and you found yourself unable to look up at Angus. You could see out of your peripheral that it was the same for him, his eyes dropping to look at his feet.
“Don’t you have somewhere else to be?” You asked quietly, an amused expression on your face as you two connected eyes again.
“What? This doesn’t count as something?” He chided in return, stepping closer to you, and you almost wanted to ask if he could reach forward and slip his finger into your belt loop like he did earlier. Tug your hips together and talk some more, shameless flirting. You lived for his attention like it was a drug.
Craved it.
“It is something, but I’m not sure how productive it is,” you laughed, reaching for the door handle behind you, “do you know if anything is happening tonight?”
Angus crinkled his face, signifying that plans were still a bust, “Not really sure yet. Probably going to drive around and see what’s up I guess, maybe go to the Emporium. I just gotta’ go home and change.”
Silence filled the space between you both again, leaving you dumbfounded and chewing on your lip as you racked your brain with something to say that wouldn’t sound stupid. You were drawing a blank, feeling like a young girl talking to a cute boy for the first time. It was easy for that feeling to come back when you were alone with Angus, a testament to how badly you were crushing on him.
“I should, uh-–” you murmured, clearing your throat as you twisted the knob, “go back in and get ready. Kaye will be here any second, and I haven’t even dried my hair.”
That roused a laugh from Angus, his eyes flicking up to your hair that had started to dry at the roots, a bit all over the place, but he liked the authenticity you displayed. He liked you at your best and at your worst, but this was far from your worst. He found himself wanting to stay put, to ask to go inside and spend the rest of his night hanging out with you instead of out driving around and drinking with the boys. Angus could already imagine what you two could get up to if you were alone—it filled him with excitement.
“I’ll see you later, then?” Angus asked, getting his mind out of the gutter, but not yet moving from his spot. He towered over you with that stupid smile, the one that made you want to wipe it away with your lips.
“Maybe,” you couldn’t help but tease, your hand pressing against his chest and pushing him back playfully, fingers relishing in the brief contact, “go on, I’m sure your boys are missing you.”
“Yeah, yeah, you’re right. My boys.” he chuckled, moving down the front steps and walking backward to keep his eyes on you, “Don’t you go missing me too much, alright?”
“I never do!” You called out to him through a big smile, watching as he slipped around the other side of his car and clutched his heart, as though you shot him. So dramatic.
Your feet had stayed firmly planted on the ground, eyes watching as he waved at you through his passenger side window before driving off down your block. You stayed there for a few minutes, watching the setting sun, before realization hit, and you ran back inside to finish getting ready.
Makeup and hair was your focus as you raced the clock, fingers careful as you applied colour to your lips and cheeks, coating your lashes in mascara to brighten the eyes and make you look alive. Those same careful hands moved to your hair, styling it several ways before you settled on something that kept it out of your eyes—nothing fancy.
As your finger patted on one final layer of colour to your cheeks, after accidentally smudging your face with mascara and needing a fix, you heard the sound of a car honking outside. Quickly, you did one final look over of yourself in your full-length mirror, sucking in a deep breath and smiling. You looked fucking incredible. You were confident. There was nothing that could ruin your night.
“Goodbye, mom! I’ll see you later!” You called you as you slipped out from your bedroom, waltzing down the hallway excitedly. You had hardly seen her today, only at breakfast and a ten minutes earlier when you snuck into the kitchen and grabbed a small plate of food to settle your stomach before the night began.
“Try not to stay out all night, alright?” She called back, you could hear the sound of her doing the dishes, porcelain clinging together as she stacked the drying rack full, “And don’t be loud, you’ll wake up your grandmother.”
“I promise.” You said, peaking your head into the kitchen to spot your mother, flashing her a smile that simply couldn’t let her be grumpy with you.
“Have fun,” she said to you, rolling her eyes as she put away the last of the dry dishes and watched you slip on your sandals and run out the door, feeling nothing short but free. The two of you always had a great relationship, but as you got older, you could tell that her emotions were starting to get the best of her. Soon, you’d be gone to college and off living your own adult life, she wasn’t ready to let that go yet, and sometimes you had to fight for a night with your friends.
Thankfully, she understood the importance of tonight. She was a senior at Lee High School once.
“Hey! Sabrina!” You cheered, spotting the freshman sitting in the back of Kaye’s Volkswagen Convertible as you jogged out of your front door, eager to get the night started. You slid easily into the passenger seat, settling in and turning on your side to look at the two girls, “how was the car wash?” You asked, a mischievous smile on your lips—thankful you weren’t there to watch the madness.
“Cold,” the freshman chuckled, playing with the ends of her hair as Kaye hit the pedal and the car lurched forward as you made way for a night of driving with the girls, “but I was cleaned off at least. I was starting to feel sick from the smell of mustard. I don’t know if I’ll be able to go to any summer barbecues this year.”
“Hope the other girls weren’t too hard on you,” you hummed in thought, leaning against the seat and watching over the brunette, who seemed much too sweet for her own good. You could already see the heads she’d be turning at school in the fall, you wondered how Darla would make do with it. She reeked of insecurity, the type of girls to get jealous over fresh meat coming in and whisking attention away.
“No, they were good,” she assured, “Then after Kaye dropped me off and invited me along tonight.”
“Wow, she does have a heart,” you spoke in feigned awe, earning a playful shove from Kaye, who glared at you from the driver’s seat.
After the sun fully set beyond the horizon, and you and Kaye had smoked a couple cigarettes and assaulted Sabrina with questions about the upcoming school year, you found yourself watching the scenery that passed by. You’d also mentioned to them how Pickford’s party was busted, unsurprised was that they’d heard about it already. New travelled sickeningly fast.
You smiled to yourself as you enjoyed the cool breeze on your skin from the top of the car being down, relief from the hot sun earlier that afternoon.
“So, you left with Angus early,” Kaye said, looking in the rearview and connecting her gaze with Sabrina, who wasn’t looped into the entirety of the drama, “Right, to get you up to speed, Miss Freshman, your favourite senior here is a conniving, two-timing woman.”
“I am not conniving!” You gasped, swatting at Kaye.
“Kidding! Kidding! I would never accuse you of anything bad. You’re allowed to have options,” She laughed, eyes on the road as you three cruised down random neighbourhood roads, navigating your way downtown to stop at Top Notch. You rolled your eyes, but did not interrupt, allowing Kaye her space to go on. She cleared her throat, “So, to sum it up into one sentence, she’s in a casual, steamy relationship with Benny, but has the hots for Angus, a certified popular quarterback who is already dating Elise… Saying it out loud makes it sound like a cringe-worthy romance movie plot. You are now a walking cliché, I hope you know that.”
Sabrina’s eyes narrowed slightly as she tried to keep up with the information that was being thrown at her, names she’d never heard of and scandals she didn’t quite understand.
“Okay, I would not consider me and Benny to be in a relationship, like, at all. Also, calling Angus a popular quarterback does not do him justice,” you butted in, looking over at Kaye with a quirked brow, “he’s a really sweet guy. He’s kind to me. Not just some popular boy. You know, he doesn’t even like being popular.” Kaye rolled her eyes at your comment, always having another opinion than your own, especially when it came to societal issues.
“That’s the curly haired boy you were talking to, right?” The freshman spoke up, tucking hair behind her ear that was blowing wildly in the wind.
“Yep, that’s him,” you smiled back at Sabrina.
“He likes you,” she smiled, a bit uncertain if her advice was warranted, “I mean, if I were a boy… I’d probably stare at a girl like that if I liked her.”
Redness filled your cheeks at the girl's words of wisdom, which left your stomach in knots.
“But he’s with Elise!” You groaned, letting your head fall back against the seat as you stared up at the night sky, “Love is so complicated. It’s like, does he want me or not? If he does, why won’t he break up with her? I feel so goddamn guilty because of her.”
“Easy, cowgirl,” Kaye chuckled, glancing back at Sabrina and clicking her tongue, “I don’t see why you’ve got your panties in a twist, you don’t even like Elise. I’d go as far as to say you probably hate her.”
“I do not hate her,” you lift a finger, not needing your words to get twisted, “And even if she was the world’s worst person, I would still feel guilty because I’m not a bad person.”
Kaye smirked to herself, fingers gripping the wheel a bit tighter as she listened to your concerns, “So… she does have a heart.” She returned the earlier sentiment.
“You’re an ass,” you groaned, lips twitching into a smile, “What do I do? Sabrina, what would you do?”
You turned in your seat again, eyes locking onto the younger girl and waiting to see what advice she would give. Sure, young teens were inexperienced in all sorts of ways, especially compared to your own, but they always said shit exactly like it was. Wiser than most adults gave them credit for.
The girl thought about it, weighing options in her head, “I would confront him about it,” she advised, “if he does really like you then he’d do something about it… right?”
You kept your eyes on Sabrina, pointing at her with a small smile on your face as you admired her intelligence and common sense, “You’re really smart, kid. You make sure that boys treat you good, okay? And if they don’t, you come and find me.”
“And find a boy that’s not dumb like Benny or Angus.” Kaye jumped in, earning yet another playful swat from you that had Sabrina laughing.
As you all drove down the emptying streets, you felt relief. Sabrina’s words kept repeating in your mind, knowing that the only way through the situation was with confrontation, how was Angus supposed to understand your concerns if he didn’t know what they were? Of course, you hoped that he would break up with her regardless before even attempting to flirt with you, but it’s not like you were the poster child for good morals. In the depths of your mind you kept thinking about Benny—you two were far from dating, having several discussions about keeping it casual, but you feared you two were far closer than what had been said aloud.
It had you thinking of his feelings, knowing that if you wanted to play your cards right and be moral well, you’d have to end things with him. Yet, like the fiend you were, you didn’t want to lose out on your back-up if it all fell through with Angus.
At least Benny was good in bed.
Could things get any worse?
For distraction, you found yourself singing along to the radio, Black Sabbath, one of Kaye’s favourite bands that you’d grown to like. Hard rock wasn’t your forte, but you’d enjoyed the way you’d grown adept at liking things far out of your comfort zone. So long to the girl who only listened to pop albums, now your mother was concerned you were getting into the wrong crowd when you asked her to buy you an AC/DC record for your seventeenth birthday.
Kaye turned on the road, slowing down as you pulled into the drive-thru, pulling up behind a car full of some soon-to-be junior girls–ordering drinks and snacks for you all to share. That’s when you heard the familiar sound of a truck, your eyes pulling away from the chili cheese fries and toward the rumbling of an engine. None other than Darla and Elise, Shavonne having slipped out of the vehicle and running over to jump into the back beside Sabrina, saying her hellos to you all. She focused on properly introducing herself to the new girl as they indulged in some fries together in the backseat.
You, though, couldn’t pull your gaze away and found yourself in a staring match with Elise. With a clenched jaw, you felt anger course through your veins, a rush of jealousy taking over as your mind swirled with all those ugly thoughts of her and Angus together. Envy. You were morphing into a green-eyed monster.
There was so much pent-up energy in you that you wanted to get out of the car and march on over to confront her. To reveal that even though she appeared so naive and innocent on the outside, she was far from it. Elise was a secret mean girl—at least Darla was a bitch to your face.
“Hey!”
You jumped in your seat and turned to look between the three girls, eyes widening as Kaye took a sip of her Coke and looked between you and the truck that had pulled away from Top Notch. Your short-haired friend was too perceiving for her own good, having witness the entirety of your glaring match with the girls.
“Sorry,” you murmured, looking down at the basket of fries in your hands and deciding to calm yourself with a few bites of the greasy food. You needed to get a grip. You hadn’t even had a sip of alcohol yet, and you were already fearing that tonight you’d be an angry drunk.
“Elise and Darla hate you,” Shavonne said, stealing the large coke from Kaye’s hands, her energy so calm that you wouldn’t have been able to tell that she dropped big news on you two.
“What?” You snapped, spinning in your seat so you were on your knees and facing the two in the back. “What did she say? Shavonne, tell us.”
“I don’t know… you have to promise me you won’t get mad,” Shavonne murmured, blue eyes flickering between everyone, “They said something about both of you,” the blonde shot her gaze over to Kaye, who furrowed her brows in a mix of confusion and semi-offence. Mostly curiosity.
“So, you’re all talking about us behind our backs? I would have never guessed.” Kaye grumbled, though the smile on her lips proved how uncaring she was.
“I’m not saying anything until you promise me that neither of you will get mad,” Shavonne said from her spot, looking between her two best friends.
“I won’t get mad, I don’t care what they think,” you reassured her, eagerly leaning forward to hear the gossip. Kaye agreed quietly, eyes flickering into the rearview mirror.
Shavonne held off on her words for a few moments, slowly sipping from the Coke until she was satisfied and let out a long exhale, “Okay, fine. She said you’re a slut,” she pointed to you, “and she called you a dyke,” ending off her words toward Kaye.
The three of you all stared at each other for a few moments, Sabrina looking rather uncomfortable as she feared that you’d all erupt into anger and this would get worse than it already was. The silence was deafening, the sounds of others at the drive-thru somehow seeming quiet and muffled as the words settled in.
Then, you and Kaye busted into a loud fit of laughter, following shortly by Shavonne and an uncertain Sabrina, who chuckled nervously. She seriously didn’t understand high school drama, and she was already growing afraid at the prospect of it. If someone called her a slut, she’d cry about it for days!
“God, they’re so annoying,” you breathed out through a laugh as you settled back into your seat, only feeling the slightest tinge of anger. Mostly, this relieved you because any ounce of sympathy you had over Elise was gone like the wind.
Sure, it was far from having good morals, but you certainly hoped that you’d be finding yourself with Angus somewhere tonight. Alone, and not so quiet. It’s what you both deserved.
“Did you see how Jason didn’t even say hi to me in class earlier?” Shavonne’s voice was loud over the wind as you girls drove down main street, the radio lowered, “I mean, he walked up to the door and saw me inside and didn’t even acknowledge my existence. He’s such a prick.”
“And here Kaye is trying to tell me that Benny is the worst in school,” you chuckled, glancing back to look at Shavonne, “Jason is a prick, though, he always tries to play hard to get as if you two haven’t been seeing each other all year, like, what’s his deal?”
“Right!” Shavonne exclaimed, taking another drink of the coke that was nearly gone, “And honestly, I’m doing him a favour by sleeping with him. I’m so out of his league.”
“He’s such a weirdo. He thinks being a football player makes him the most popular boy in the school,” you huffed.
“Well, it kind of does,” Shavonne sighed as she deflated into her seat for a moment, only a few seconds later puffing out her chest and sitting up straighter, “Screw him!” She exclaimed, lifting her hands in the air and shedding all worries as she forced herself to cheer out into the night sky. An easy way to uplift her energy. If there was one thing you admired about Shavonne, it was her ability of keeping herself out of the gutter. There was very little that could hold her down, and if it did, it never lasted.
“You tell him,” Kaye chimed in with a big smile, glancing in her rearview when she heard an engine roaring behind–the smile immediately faltering, “Speak of the fucking devil.”
All of you shifted in your seats to look back, seeing Pickford’s car rev up until they reached the same speed as Kaye’s. Inside sat Pickford, Jason, and some boy you didn’t quite recognize that was passing a bong back and forth with Slater in the back seat. Your eyes stared at Jason, narrowing slightly in solidarity with Shavonne’s disappointment.
Jason, who was sitting in the passenger seat, leaned forward to look past Pickford, “Hey, what’s going on?” He asked your group, a smile spread on his lips and completely unaware of the complaining that was going on between you four.
Your eyes lingered on Jason, a brow quirked—severely unimpressed.
“What are you up to?” Shavonne called over, leaning against her door and locking eyes with Jason, a small smile on her lips. You caught her behaviour, holding back the urge to roll your eyes at how coy she was being after just talking bad about him—she was only human.
“Oh, you know, smoking a little weed. Driving around,” he said casually, licking his lips as he focused those eyes on the blonde sitting in the backseat of Kaye’s car, “There might be a beer bust later on, just thought you’d want to know.”
“Oh, yeah?”
“Yeah.”
“Cool,” Shavonne was trying so hard to hide that smile, but it was impossible. Again, you couldn’t blame her, Jason was a really cute guy. Why stay mad, especially on a night like this?
“Do you know where Angus is?” You called over, eyes flickering between Jason and Slater, figuring they were the last to see him. That was enough to garner everyone’s attention, even Pickford removed his eyes from the road to glance at you.
You hadn’t realized that your affairs were so public.
“He’s back at the Emporium, man,” Slater said from his spot in the backseat, hardly able to keep his eyes fully opened and a goofy smile tainting his lips, “Hanging with Wooderson… I like that guy, man.”
You felt your cheeks warm up at the mere mention of his whereabouts, feeling the stare of Kaye from behind you. Couldn’t you have any peace? If Shavonne could immediately forgive Jason for being a bad not-so-boyfriend, then you should be able to lust after Angus freely! She did say you’re allowed to have options.
“Elise better watch her boy,” Jason said through a grin, wiggling his eyebrows at you. Just as he turned to look at Shavonne, his mouth opening to say his goodbyes—
“Check you later!” Slater said in a dorky tone as he snapped his fingers into guns, a big, toothy smile on his lips. Kaye sped up and down the street, you girls all laughing together as you barely heard Jason chastising Slater for ruining it.
“They’re such dorks,” Kaye shook her head, lifting a hand to adjust her rearview mirror, catching Sabrina in it, “How are you like it so far, Freshie?” She asked, both you and Shavonne’s attention landing on her.
“It’s fun,” Sabrina smiled, “I’ve uh, never had a night like this before. Do you drive around like this a lot?”
“Pretty much,” you answered, turning ahead in your seat as you looked down at your nails, too dark to properly inspects your cuticles, “There’s not much to do in the evenings unless there’s a party, so this is better than nothing.”
“We know this whole city like this back of our hand,” Shavonne said, grinning, “Do your best to keep an eye on it all, yeah? Someday, I’m sure you’ll be driving around with a cute boy looking for a place to park for some… alone time.” She nudged the younger girl, Sabrina blushing at the insinuation.
“Shavonne, do not inflict your teenage horniness on this poor freshman.” Kaye reprimanded playfully, turning down a quiet street.
“What? I’m allowed!” Shavonne snarked, smirking over at the younger girl, “Have you even had your first kiss yet?”
Those words caught your attention as you snuck a glance over your shoulder, smiling when you saw how Sabrina’s cheeks were bright red. That alone was enough admission of the truth, and you could only hope that her high school career was less dramatic than your own.
“We meant what we said earlier,” you said as you adjusted yourself, “Make sure you find a nice boy.”
“She was chatting with Tony earlier, asked her to propose to him.” Kaye chewed on her bottom lip, pulling the car through the neighbourhoods that were quiet and still. Families tucked away in their homes after dinner, porch lights flicking off and on to silently beckon their children away from their evening playtime and back inside.
“Tony?” You smiled brightly, knowing that the blonde boy was a friend of Angus’. You’d been invited to play poker with them a couple of times before, only having made it there once, “Now he is a nice boy. I don’t think I’ve ever heard a vulgar word coming from his mouth, you know.”
“Yeah, he seems nice,” Sabrina giggled shyly, tucking some of her curly hair behind her ear, “He’s just… older, though. Do seniors even like freshman?”
You and Shavonne laughed together, finding her words too innocent. She knew absolutely nothing of high school culture, and you were almost certain she didn’t have an older sister. To be this clueless was a nightmare and a half—you experienced it firsthand as the eldest sibling in your family.
“You have no fucking idea,” the blonde snickered, “I’m so glad you’re with us, Sabrina, you have so much to learn.”
The freshman was wide-eyed and looking between you all, “So… they do like freshman girls?”
“Yes, and it’s sickening,” Kaye said, “I might complain about Jason and Benny every day of my life, but at least they date girls their age,” she said, slowing down as she pulled back onto main street and pulled over on the side of the road where a garbage can was–shifting the car into park, “But Tony is actually a decent guy, so I’ll let that slide.”
Shavonne silently knew her assigned task, scooping up the garbage you girls collected over the past hour and hopping out of the vehicle to throw it away. Once back, she lit up a cigarette, settling back into the seat beside Sabrina and exhaling the smoke up into the night sky.
“Yeah, he’s not a pig like Teddy Kountze. You watch out for him, he flunked senior year, so he’s eighteen now and will still be trying to get with the freshman girls,” you warned her carefully, “and he’s a douchebag. There’s nothing good about him.”
Shavonne nodded to your words, passing the cigarette to you, “You know, my dad was twenty-two when he started dating my mom at sixteen,” she looked between you all, “Now that I’m seventeen it gives me the creeps. My dad was Wooderson’s age when they met, that’s messed up.”
“Do you think he’ll be still hitting on the girls when Sabrina is a senior?” Kaye piped up through a laugh, taking the cigarette from you and inhaling.
The freshman, again, look wide-eyed and nervous. It was endearing.
“Don’t worry,” you said to her through a chuckle, “trust me when I tell you that you’ll know who he is when you see him, and you’ll be rightly turned off. I don’t trust the girls that get with him.”
“Didn’t you sleep with him?” Shavonne kicked your seat.
“What? No! I said I thought about it when he asked,” you grumbled, “I have morals.”
“Obviously not enough to stay away from dudes that have girlfriends,” Kaye rebuked, an impish look on her face.
“I resent that baseless accusation,” you snorted, reaching down to put your hand on the gear shift, “Start driving.”
“Shit, I almost forgot to tell you!” Shavonne squealed, sitting forward so she could lean herself between you and Kaye, falling back slightly as the car sped back onto the road, “I heard from a little bird that Elise is thinking of breaking up with Angus.”
“Really?” You murmured, looking over your shoulder at Shavonne, “don’t lie.”
“I swear to god, she told me herself. She said that she’s getting bored, and she feels like she could do better for senior year,” your friend continued, delighted to see your interest, “But I don’t know if she’ll go through with it.”
“Why not?” Kaye piped up, brows furrowing as she listened to the gossip.
“Because she knows that miss love triangle over here has been hanging out with him,” Shavonne smiled, “Darla saw you two driving around last weekend and Elise is pissed.”
“What? There’s nothing illegal about driving around. We’re friends,” you complained, offended.
“Don’t get ahead of yourself, sweetheart, everyone knows that you and Angus have the hots for each other,” Shavonne grinned, “But just know that your little rendezvous are the reason that Elise has decided to hold off on breaking up with him. If you two waited just a few more weeks before spending all the free time you could muster up with each other, he’d probably be all yours for the taking.”
A heavy breath came from you, feeling regret pool inside your stomach and leaving it in a sour pit.
“What a spiteful bitch,” you mumbled under your breath.
“Well, look at it this way,” Kaye started, “if things were getting so boring between them that Elise was wanting to break up with him, then you could probably confront him about it, and he’d break up with her. The only question is, will you?”
Much like a whiny toddler, you pouted in your seat and forced your gaze away from your friends, “Yeah, whatever. I’ll think about it… we need to find some fucking alcohol.”
Kaye pulled onto a road that led past the Recreation Centre, where the freshman were having their own summer kick-off party. Not much of a party than it was a dance being chaperoned by a few parents and teachers, you could even hear the song “Love Hurts” by Nazareth being played loudly from the open doors—poor kids.
Your eyes flickered ahead as Kaye started slowing down, further down the street you saw a vehicle pulled over on the side of the road with its headlights on and the sound of yelling. “What the hell,” you murmured, leaning over the side of your door to look past the windshield. It was Teddy Kountze’s car, cringing when you heard the cries of the boy as a paddle smacked against him.
Jason came walking from around the front of the car where the boy was pushed against a chain link fence, a smile on his face when he saw Shavonne sitting up and looking over at him. However, everyone's attention was faced over to Kountze, who was relentless with his paddling.
“Go easy on him, would you?” You called out, feeling your heart skip a beat when you realized it was Benny holding the other paddle. He turned over to look at you from afar, a smirk on his lips as you tugged your eyes away.
Jason only smiled wider as he walked closer, “Ladies,” he mused, opening the trunk of the car to reveal a sea of beer bottles and cans. He grabbed one of the glass bottles and a bottle cap opener, leaning back against the trunk, just about to open it until you spoke.
“Who’s the kid?” You asked, sitting up in your seat until you were nearly standing and looking overtop the windshield, cringing slightly as you saw Kountze paddling him a few more times, relentless in doing so. You could hear the cracks of the wood against the denim echo, pained cries coming from the kid.
“Oh, the kid there?” Jason hummed, smirking, “Some kid we saw walking around the rec centre that shouldn’t have been there,” Jason bit down on his bottom lip as his eyes focused on the blonde.
You were focused on Benny, who was walking around the car and standing next to Jason, grabbing one of the beers for himself. He was far from the hottest guy you’d ever seen, but you had grown attached to him, whether you realized it or not. That’s why you grinned when he looked at you, biting down onto your lip coquettishly as he returned with a smile of his own. Okay, maybe he was one of the hottest guys you’d ever seen.
There was something about these small town Texan boys that had you flustered.
It was easy to forget about your troubles when you had boys at your disposal, boys who could make you feel good for a night. So the looming responsibilities ahead were far from your mind and instead focused on the pleasure they gave you. That’s what you and Benny were good for each other.
And that’s how it started. A bit of flirting here and there within your first few weeks of arriving at Lee High School, until one day before a football game he came crawling to you with so much pent-up stress. You two had spent the entire night together, not falling asleep until the birds started chirping. That’s why you had to fight the urge to saunter toward him and forget about your worries of Angus, to indulge in what was comfortable for you. Ignoring your future, ignoring how the unknowing scared you.
“Can you give us some of those beers?” Shavonne called out to Jason, a smile on her lips.
“Why?” He grinned, teasing.
“Just give me a beer,” she groaned, her and Sabrina now sitting up on the backs of their seat, looking above you and Kaye.
“Get the fuck out of here!” Kountze’s voice was loud, the paddle smacking against the chain link fence loudly as the kid scurried off toward the cars. He was finally done playing with his food.
As Jason toyed with tossing over a beer to Shavonne, playing with her, he instead turned to the freshman walking past, “Here, catch, kid.” He said, tossing the beer bottle to him and smiling contentedly—it wasn’t by much, but Jason was one of the kinder boys. Not as kind as Angus.
“What did you give him a beer for? You’re wasting beers,” Benny grumbled, cracking open one of the white cans and taking a sip of the foam that nearly spilled out of the opening. His eyes flickered over to you again, smirking from behind his drink as both of you silently agreed on the fact that you’d be seeing each other later.
Far from your thoughts was Angus and the idea of breaking things off with Benny.
Was it so bad to see where things went first?
“This fuckin’ sucks,” Kountze whined, dropping his paddle into the open car door before walking over and picking up a bottle, “Last fuckin’ day of school, no fuckin’ party. No nothin’. Fuck,” as he spoke, his words grew angrier as he tried to open the bottle in his hand. When the cap wouldn’t budge, he huffed and tossed the beer, the glass shattering on the gravel road.
“You just wasted another fucking bee-”
“Shut up.”
In his hands, Jason scooped up four cans of beer, one falling out of his grasp, which Benny managed to catch. As Kountze pouted and drank his beer, leaning up against the trunk of his car, Jason and Benny bringing the rest of you each a drink.
Coming up to the passenger side, Benny leaned against the door and gave you the beer he’d been dangling in his hand, smirking down at you and making you shift in your seat to look at him better. “You’ll be at the Emporium later?” He asked, his hands lifting to adjust the ball cap he wore, fitting it snug over his hair.
“Maybe,” you hummed, cracking the beer open and taking a sip.
“Don’t act like that. Will you be there?” Benny smiled, a low chuckle rumbling from deep in his chest, his hand reaching forward to play with your hair, something he’s never done before. It almost felt… domestic. Like you two were an exclusive item. You were certain he was only acting this way because you’d been distant lately, likely wanting to see more of you, and that treating you this way would make you go crawling right back to him. There was also the thought of jealousy, if others were already talking about you and Angus, you were one hundred percent certain that those rumours would have found their way to Benny.
You wondered if there was a rift in their friendship lately, from what you knew, Angus and Benny were close. They weren’t best friends, but they had spent years growing up together. That alone made you nervous.
“Okay, yeah. Fine. I’ll see you there.” You bit back a smile, setting your beer down into the cupholder between you and Kaye, thankful that the other three were being entertained by Jason the entire time. The last thing you wanted was for your friend to call you out about shamelessly flirting with two boys in one day. Like Shavonne would say—you’re allowed!
“So, who bought you the beer this time?” Your blonde friend asked Jason, only to be rudely interrupted by a car of freshly-graduated boys driving by with music blaring obnoxiously loud.
“Hey, Benny, you idiot!” A voice slurred loudly, one of the boys from the car, “You know I slept with your girl before you did! Sloppy seconds!” They shouted as they tossed a beer can that hit the side of Kaye’s car.
It happened so fast, everyone turning their heads to look at the culprits driving by, eyes wide and in shook.
They were lying, of course, the words spewed only because those boys were drunk and jealous of the football players. Why they were jealous of someone younger, you couldn’t comprehend—boys were weird. You were unfortunately caught in the crossfire, an easy target with Benny’s attention all over you. The words still stung you, though, your cheeks reddening in embarrassment. You felt a hand, Benny’s, press over your shoulder and gently squeeze it. Reassuring and protective.
It was unlike anything you’d experienced with him, and for the first time he’d grounded you. Weirdly, you felt like you could get used to that feeling.
“Bite me!” Kountze yelled out at the boys protectively, earning a ‘fuck you’ as they sped down the road, “Yeah, you wish, asshole!” Kaye chimed in right after, everyone angry and red-faced on yours and Benny’s behalf.
That was something you could check off—Kountze and Kaye standing up for you at the same time. Two sides of very different coins.
Shyly, you reached a hand up to rest over Benny’s, tilting your head back to look at him as you squeezed his fingers, noting the anger that was swirling in his eyes. The anger he tried to control for your sake. This moment was intimate, leaving you a bit breathless and with butterflies swirling around in your stomach.
You were now fully caught in a mess of boys and blossoming love, certain this night wouldn’t end well for one of you. Hell, maybe none.
“Why are guys such pigs?” Shavonne sneered from her seat, looking over her shoulder to where the car had sped off, now only a layer of dust in the air.
“Let’s get out of here.” Kaye murmured, shifting back in her seat and glancing over at you and Benny, motioning for him to move his hand from you, “You okay?”
You nodded at Kaye, swallowing a lump down your throat and shoving away your bruised pride, “I, uh, I’ll see you later, then,” your words were directed to Benny. The mood deflated as you settled into your seat, feeling the boy’s gaze on you as he stepped back. You already yearned for his touch again, but you didn’t dare look over at him because you were pulled back into reality now, much too sober. Likewise, you grabbed your beer and took a long chug.
“Bye, boys!” Shavonne waved the football players off as Kaye pulled away, a smirk on her face as she gave a wink to Jason. Though, Sabrina and her were quick to ask if you were okay, leaving you to smile and nod, wanting nothing more now than to get wasted and forget about everything.
You left it up to Kaye to head to your next destination, can of beer in hand, as you sipped on it and listened to your friends chat amongst each other. Like usual, you had found yourself staring off into the scenery, your mind far from the present and up in the clouds.
Closing your eyes and listening to the radio, you tried to keep your mind from wandering. You focused on your breathing, or how the small bit of alcohol in you had started warming your cheeks. Soon you would be at the Emporium, hopefully able to score some more beer and spend the rest of the night actually having a good time.
This was the last time you would ever let words affect you this much, you promised yourself that.
After driving around for another ten minutes and being overcome with a frustrating amount of boredom, Kaye and Shavonne decided that the Emporium would have better luck. You had forgotten all about Angus being there.
The four of you found yourself standing outside the building while Kaye had a cigarette and the rest of you practiced shooting bottle caps with a snap. Trying to show Sabrina how to do it so it would hit your shoulder. There was a shared feeling of ennui in the air, even radiating out from the inside of the Emporium. Nearly the entire student body had been waiting for Pickford’s party the last month, his house the perfect host for a night of wild teens needing to find relief after a brutal school year.
And there was only so much driving you girls could do in a night and so much beer you could get your hands—you were running out of things to do.
You, especially, could use a party. Somewhere to drink up cups of alcohol and shrug off those nasty words that stuck with you, even after Shavonne berated you for letting it bother you. You were stronger than this, but with your heart confused on what it wanted, and your brain stuck on morals, you were vulnerable.
“This is stupid,” you groaned, tossing the bottle cap in your hand onto the concrete sidewalk and leaning back against the exterior of the building, “Should we go for another drive?”
“I’m sick of driving. Let’s go see if we could score a pool table.” Kaye said, dropping her cigarette to the ground and butting it out with the heel of her shoe.
“And maybe a few more beers,” Shavonne said with a bright smile, likely the only girl in your group that was optimistic about what the night would bring.
As you turned to make your way into the Emporium, none other than Angus Tully stepped out, a cigarette fit nicely between his lips. You looked at his clothing, a purple button up triple his size that was tucked nicely into some white bell-bottoms. The familiar fluttering with your stomach made its appearance again, and long gone were those thoughts of Benny—not when the boy you’d been falling in love with was standing right in front of you.
“Hey,” you grinned, walking over to him and pressing a hand against the wall, “Fancy seeing you here.”
You swore you noticed Angus’ eyes brighten when he saw you, smiling as he pulled the cigarette from between his lips and walked right next to you, followed closely by Wooderson, and surprisingly, your younger brother. Obviously, Kaye and Shavonne weren’t the only girls who invited a freshman. You watched with a smile as he ran past you, eager to see a familiar face in Sabrina.
“You nearly convinced me that I wouldn’t see you tonight,” Angus snickered, leaning against the wall and looking you up and down slowly and with intent, “So, you did end up having the time to finish drying your hair. You, uh, look nice.”
“Thanks, you too,” you breathed out through a giggle, your entire spirit lifting now that he was around, “Did you hear anything more about a beer bust? We’re getting bored.” You motioned a hand back to Kaye and Shavonne, who were standing behind you and focused mostly on Wooderson.
“Ask this man right here,” he smiled, pointing his thumb to the older blonde, who was smiling at you with heavy lidded eyes and a permanent lopsided grin.
“Patience, darlin’, patience.” He hummed, smoking a near-finished joint in his hands, as he took a few steps away and returned the interest in Kaye and Shavonne.
“So, what have you been up to?” Angus asked, looking down at you as he held up the cigarette and a lighter, giving you the first drag if you so pleased. The gesture was small, but it made you so fucking giddy that you had to try to hide your dorky little smile.
“Mostly driving,” you said, putting the cigarette between your lips and lighting in, inhaling the smoke that burned into your lungs, “we ended up running into Kountze, Jason and Benny,” you said, noticing the way he straightened a bit at the mention of the boy you’d been linked with recently, “They were beating on a kid so hard, that one seriously won’t be sitting for weeks.”
“Christ,” Angus chuckled, taking the cigarette you passed to him and inhaling the nicotine he’d been needing, “I feel bad for the freshman boys, you know? Not saying you girls don’t have it bad, but after today they’re all free. All those boys that went running will be hunted for the rest of summer.”
“Aw, did poor Angus get paddled as a freshman boy?” You teased him, seeing the way he empathized, finding it rather sweet.
“Fuck yeah, and it hurt like hell.” He laughed, “I was an idiot and went running on the last day of school. If I could go back and tell myself to suck it up and get paddled on the first day, I would’ve taken ten lickings like a champ.”
You watched Angus with a big smile, chewing absentmindedly on your bottom lip as you stayed attentive, thinking back and wondering what kind of boy he was like when he was young.
“Well, thanks for not being the kind of guy to take this so seriously,” you said, “You’re a nice guy, Angus. Far nicer than those stupid pricks that yelled at me today,” you huffed, “Can’t even enjoy a beer in peace.”
“What happened?” Angus questioned, and you could feel his energy change, like he cared about you—like he was worried.
You found yourself getting shameful about admitting it, though, your cheeks warming up against as you cleared your throat and shrugged, “It wasn’t anything serious.”
“Tell me,” he urged, a serious look on his face, “Who said something? Was it Benny?”
“What? No. It was actually directed at him,” you cleared the confusion, but it didn’t seem to help, Angus’ face contorted in uncertainty, “Jason was giving us some beers after Kountze let the kid go, and Benny and I were chatting then some dudes drove past, drunk as hell, and yelled about how they’d slept with me before Benny did. Or something along those lines, I don’t know, it was really fast, and they were just being douchebags trying to get under his skin. It was a complete lie, I haven’t slept with anyone except Benny–” you were poisoned with rambling, it seemed.
“Are you okay?” Angus interjected, his eyes softening as he noticed your discomfort over the situation. His compassion made you tense up, almost half-expecting him to focus less on the verbal attack that insinuated you were sleeping around, but instead he was worried about how you felt.
“Yeah… I mean, it was pretty insulting, but I’m okay.” You nodded your head, feeling so incredibly small under Angus’ gaze, but safe.
“Some dudes are total pigs,” he huffed, giving you the cigarette that you obviously needed, “hopefully that’s the last time they bother you like that.”
“Thanks,” you said quietly, taking a few much-needed drags from the cigarette, “I won’t let it get to me next time.”
“Good,” Angus smiled, watching you with a look of awe and love on his face, but you couldn’t quite make that out. You were far too oblivious for your own good, “I bet Benny was happy to see you.”
And there it was. You knew it was too good to be true—a night where Angus would forget all about your own ‘relationship’. You were kind at least, keeping your lips tight about his own situation.
“I wouldn’t say he was necessarily any happier to see me than usual,” you chuckled, awkwardly dropping your gaze, “We just hang out from time to time. It’s nothing serious.”
“Are you being honest?”
You looked up, meeting those brown eyes, “What do you mean?”
“Is it nothing serious?” He questioned you, making you feel like there was no one else around you as he fixated on those words. You grew tense, the first time being questioned so analytically by him.
This would have been the perfect time to explain everything, to bring up your feelings for him, and to let him know that you’d call things off with Benny as long as he did the same with Elise. But you could never do things that easily, could you?
“Uh, no. Nothing serious.” Is all you said, shrugging. In the back of your mind, you remembered the way you had grabbed onto Benny’s hand, holding it for reassurance as he was silently there for you. To you, it was nothing serious. To him? Well, you couldn’t be so certain what his intentions were, so technically, you weren’t lying.
“That’s cool,” Angus replied, his eyes dropping as he continued smoking–his mind elsewhere, and you wondered if any of your words actually stuck in his mind. You followed his gaze, looking down at your chest, which was manipulated perfectly by the halter top.
A laugh bubbled up from your throat, “are you staring at my fucking tits?”
“Huh?” Angus was caught off-guard, looking up at you, cheeks pink, “No, not at all,” he was adamant in his answer, exhaling smoke from deep in his lungs as his expression faltered sheepishly, “…yes.”
“Yeah, some dudes are pigs,” you teased, earning a smile and gentle shove against your shoulder from Angus.
Things were cut short, though, your eyes slowly moving past him when you saw two familiar figures walking up toward the doors of the Emporium, your stomach twisting into knots. Darla smiled at Wooderson, giving him a wink as they walked past, Elise, however, was staring daggers at both you and Angus. Whatever nice girl facade she’d managed to play these past few months had completely vanished, you saw her exactly for what she was.
You swallowed a lump down your throat, pulling your eyes away from Elise as she took a drag from her cigarette and walked inside the Emporium slowly, leaving you and Angus standing outside awkwardly. Neither of you dared to bring up the elephant in the room, you were instead waving goodbyes to Kaye and Shavonne as they went inside, following Elise and Darla.
Soon, you, Wooderson and Angus were standing outside, your brother having went in with Sabrina to mingle with their peers. It wasn’t so awkward anymore, having taken up small conversation with the older man.
“So, you lived in California, right?” Wooderson asked you, putting a joint between his lips and inhaling.
“Yeah, Santa Barbara,” you replied, staying close to Angus’ side. You didn’t know Wooderson all that well, but you’d met him twice before today—all you knew was that he was an older guy who loved younger girls. And, he bought you beer once, so you owed him.
“California dreamin’,” he smiled, “bet you miss it, huh?”
“Every day,” you sighed, closing your eyes for a moment and able to instantly take yourself back to the coastal beaches.
You were rudely interrupted by the sound of squealing tires against pavement, opening your eyes to see Teddy’s car come speeding into the parking lot and stopping right in front. You met Benny’s gaze immediately as he stepped out of the car to let Jason out of the back. Though, you were far more perceptive than usual, catching the way his eyes flickered between you and Angus, unimpressed.
“Hey, Slater, you fuckin’ hippie! Give me some drugs, man!” Kountze called from the driver’s seat, his voice making a shiver run down your spine. Even though he’d kind of stood up for you earlier, he was still your least favourite human on this planet.
Slater had been sitting sideways outside of Pickford’s car, the two of them sharing a joint without a care in the world. Until Teddy showed up.
“Get some from your mother, man,” Slater returned wittily. You could see the irritation on his face, it was hard to get a guy like Slater upset.
“We just bagged your mother,” Kountze laughed loudly as Benny got back in the car. He hadn’t acknowledged you other than the lingering stare, and you knew that you’d be confronted by him sooner or later–you tried to ignore it.
“Okay. Fuck you, dick head,” Slater said, waving his hand at them as Kountze pulled out of the parking lot, the smell of rubber on pavement making you nauseous.
“Man of the woods, what’s going on? I haven’t seen you in so long.” Jason grinned, happy to see Wooderson as he ran up to him, greeting him in a way that made you crinkle your nose at their vulgar behaviour.
As you watched the two men catching up, you almost didn’t notice the way Angus’ hand had moved to the small of your back. You snapped your head to look at him, a knowing smile on his face as he looked past you and over to Wooderson. You chewed on the inside of your cheek and leaned into his touch, letting out a content sigh. This felt much too good, like this was normal. You wanted him to be your normal.
“I think I might head inside,” you murmured to Angus, looking up at him and ignoring Wooderson’s rant about younger women—loving the way he got older, and how they stayed the same age. You wished Kaye was outside to hear this, she would’ve jumped at the opportunity to argue with Wooderson about his predatory behaviour, but he would've taken it with stride.
“You sure?” Angus asked, keeping his voice low as he looked over you.
Though, just as you were about to nod to his words, Pickford spoke up, “You guys wanna’ go for a spin?”
“Fuck yeah, shotgun!” Jason quickly snapped his fingers, grinning as he pointed at Wooderson and Angus, “Woods?”
“I’m here, man.” Wooderson replied, content with sticking around the Emporium, likely now that the girls were inside and ready to be flirted with. If you weren’t so disgusted in the twenty-year old’s behaviour, you likely would’ve been right with them and hoping he’d give you the light of day.
This was the best opportunity to usher a quick goodbye to Angus before disappearing and finding your friends, but you were looped right into the action.
“You want to come along?” Angus pulled himself from you, stepping toward the car and grinning, trying his best to entice.
You let out another long exhale, trying to act cool, but you were crazy excited. You hadn’t wanted to go inside to get away from Angus, rather, you were getting bored with standing around and doing a whole lot of nothing. Spending time with Angus? Yeah, you’d say yes to that any day.
“Yeah, why not?” You agreed, stepping alongside Angus and walking toward the car.
“Listen, I’m gonna’ give you shotgun,” Slater said to Jason as he got out of the passenger seat and motioned for the blonde boy to take his spot, eyes so small that you could barely see them. You could tell how red they were, though, “But I want you to know it’s only ‘cause I’m goin’ inside. You keep that in mind.”
Jason smirked, “Okay. Got it, Slate.”
As they spoke, you slipped into the back of the car, sliding into the seat behind Pickford, with Angus settling in right next to you.
You weren’t sure what to expect, this being your first time hanging out with this group of boys, but you were certain that it wouldn’t be short of entertaining. You settled into your seat, sighing quietly as you felt Angus’ hand rest on your thigh, wishing there was no fabric blocking his touch from your bare thigh.
As you felt your heart doing flips in your chest, eyes locked in Angus’ brown ones, you wondered if he felt the same.

Y/n's Pov - 6 years ago
Exiting the barn I brushed my hands over the light brown fur of my horse. My hair was in pigtail braids falling over my shoulders as I heard the main house front door open and saw my mother walking up with a bottle of wine in her hand. "You clearly got an attachment to those things from your daddy. You remember what I taught you right?"
"Don't let any man think they instantly get to be with me. Because they are all led by the tail between their legs." I responded to her knowing that she said she would never get back on a horse after the day her mother was killed. She basically hated them unlike my father who hated whenever he had to put one down.
She rests a hand on my shoulder showing me a small smile then motioned her head towards the young ranch hand that I had met in the barn a few years ago. "Seems like he needs a lesson on how to saddle a horse. Go help him dear."
Ryan ran a hand through his hair holding his hat in his other hand somehow getting some of the straps twisted together. "Need some help there, cowboy?" I chuckled standing beside him, crossing my arms over my chest.
"Shit yes. I don't know I geezed this up!" He cursed under his breath, clearly frustrated, making me shake my head. He sure had the mouth of a cowboy that's for sure.
Patting his shoulder I quickly noticed his problem shifting the saddle around then gesturing with my right arm for him to move. "Climb on now. You'll notice a difference. Oh and here's a tip for riding a horse." Ryan stared down at me as I explained standing up tall then I lowered myself down on my knees a little like I was sitting on the saddle. "When the horse bounces up, let it stand you in the stirrups and when it comes down sit back in the saddle."
"Seems easy enough." He replied as I climbed up onto my own horse.
"Yeah well see about that, Ryan. I bet you'll be cussing till the cows come home."
Ryan glanced back to the barn eyeing my mother who was smirking in our direction drinking her bottle. "Who is that woman watching us?"
"My mother. Now let's ride." I moved my horse behind his hitting the horse on the butt causing Ryan to grab the reins with it taking off quickly.
"Am I gonna get in trouble for talking with you - oh shit!" He started to ask before I chased after his horse, smirking at his language seeing I was right.
I teased him, feeling the wind blowing through my hair while I kept my pace up with his horse hearing him curse every so often but a smile was forming on his face. "If my daddy heard me talk with that mouth of yours he'd ring me up by the rafters in the barn. Just trust me it will get easier."
Y/n's Pov
Y/N looked at him, having returned to the ranch as she dismounted the horse and took them both to the barn "You didn't do too bad cowboy, but I think you will get the hang of it eventually if you're asking me. You've shown improvement in some things, so you've got it going" She says softly, knowing that he was still trying to get used to being on a horse and riding
Y/N was the same way when she first learned how to ride, but she slowly got the hang of it when Beth and Rip left her alone and she eventually figured out what she had to do and how to do it whenever she was alone and able to focus on riding her horse, Marleigh who was a five year old Mare.
Y/N had always had a passion for the animals, but she also knew that her mama didn’t like the damn things because of what happened with her grandmother but she looked at the cowboy as she dismounted the horse and took the saddle off before she heard Ryan coming up behind her as she was leaning against the stable wall as her hand rested on his cheek when she leaned in and kissed his lips passionately and deeply as she made out with him.
Unaware that her uncle was coming into the barn, but she was too caught up in the moment with her cowboy as she pulled away and breathed shallowly as she looked at him and smiled “I would like to do that more often, if you want to Cowboy” She spoke softly to him.
Kayce’s POV
Heading up towards the barn I could hear a weird sound right before I stopped in the doorway seeing my niece and one of my father’s ranch hands kissing. Normally I didn’t care what she did but I haven’t been around much so something came over me. “What the hell do you think you are kissing my niece, Ryan!” The lair broke away and for some reason he seemed confused.
“I didn’t start the kiss. She did - shit!” He cursed fumbling with his cowboy hat on his head.
Stomping forward I grabbed him by his shirt, shoving him away from her. “You don’t need to be anywhere near her. Go get back to work now.”
“What the heck, Uncle Kayce!” Y/n spun on her feet raising her voice towards me. “I’m not ten years old anymore but I guess you don’t know that since you left with the girl you got pregnant!”
Raising my brows at her statement I could sense my sister's personality breaking through. She could surely rip it to someone if they made her angry enough. “Well would rather your father kick him off the ranch. Because trust me darling, being here is a lot easier.”
“Yeah right!” She scoffed, crossing her arms over her chest avoiding my gaze.
Ryan shifted his feet through the dirt walkway of the barn nervously leaving us alone. “Uh….I’m gonna go.”
Rip’s POV
Rip saw Kayce dragging his daughter to the house by her ear, he rolled his eyes and stepped down off the porch as he looked at his brother in law. “I suggest you let her go, you ain’t got no right to be disciplining my child when you can’t even keep your son under control. Now let her go, or I will fight you Kayce.”
He says, being protective of his little girl who he loved more than anything and he wouldn’t stand for her uncle to be doing what he was to her as he walked to him and shoved Kayce hard. “Y/N go on inside, you are gonna wait there until i tell you to come outside. Do you hear me.”
He was never harsh on his little girl, and he wasn’t going to start doing so now as he ran a hand through his hair as he talked with Kayce and sorted everything out. “You let that girl be, and worry about your own. I will handle her, you aren’t her parent. I am.” He says sternly, being protective and defensive of the girl he had been raising for 17 years now.
