Fic Recs!

I decided to grab a few fics that I was recently introduced to as well as fics I haven't seen get a lot of traction in the space. This is just a personal list that I wanted to share!

@corporalicent's Rhaenicent Fics at AO3 - Cata is a beast when it comes to writing this ship (as well as other fandoms!) and has some really creative AUs out there: I mean come on: Nun!Rhaenyra and Novice!Alicent? We're here for that!

@lullaebies GenderSwapped!Green Kids AU Protector of the Realm on AO3 - So Helaena is now the only *son* of Viserys and Alicent, and Aegon/Aemond/Daeron were born girls. How intriguing is that! They are on a break for right now but go give that fic a look! Not to mention they write Aegon III/Jaehaera content that I just think is chef's kiss.

@dragonsoftheeast Firebender!Targaryen/No Dragons Dance AU Fire Made Flesh on AO3 - Um Hi, Helaena being the one to lose the eye? Actual good political matches. Unparralelled usage of High Valyrian and Valyrian Culture world building???? Sign me the fuck up! Dote is an amazing crafter of such a unique and fantastic canon divergence and I am constantly surprised more people aren't squealing about this amazing story that packs in so many twists and turns and is truly so thoughtful.

@theothermaidoftarth writing some Baela/Daeron and is currently working on Nettles/Cregan check out Song for Evermore on AO3 - Rare Pairs are a precious thing in any fandom and my girl is killing it with some fascinating ideas and utterly fantastic characterizations. We love IC AUs!

@gwenllian-in-the-abbey is leading the Baela/Aegon ship with her solo fic All Kings Are Beautiful on AO3, an 'Aegon was named heir' AU, as well as her other co-written work - Gwen's work reads like a historical fiction novel and that's really my favorite kind of thing. I haven't been able to read everything she's done but man, the nuance! The stakes! the ideas! She brings what I love to call an Old School A Song of Ice and Fire fic vibe to HotD space and I mean this with the highest of praise.

@selfproclaimedunicorn is writing Sins of the Father on AO3 because what if Rhea and Daemon actually had some kids but things still went sideways? - HELLO! MISA? Misa's talent for burying her fingers into every character we see and pulling out all the bits and bobs that make them tick? Is just.. I want to write this well when I grow up. The way she has seamlessly altered canon to the point where I'll see gifsets of scenes and go 'Where are Yorick and Ella?'. Also she has an Alicent x OC fic, and I would lay my life down for Aldreda Farwynd, my tall seal mommy.

@mimikoflamemaker is writing Daemon centric OC fic the False Dragon on AO3 - I haven't been able to dive into this yet but have talked fic and plotting with Justine. Their passion for the source is palpable and her creative ideas deserve to reach more people! Vaerra and Elyas are fascinating OCs with intriguing connections that you do not want to miss!

@jotterjots / @bronzefuryfic is also writing a 'What if Daemon and Rhea had a daughter' AU, Bronze Fury both on tumblr and AO3 - JJ is a real one and I always enjoy her insights. I actually had NO IDEA! that she was writing fic but from what I've read, it looks fantastic!

@acrossthesestars is writing Haunt Me, an Aemond War Bride AU that has me by the throat on AO3 - It's not a list without mentioning this amazing fic that's almost to the finish line. Alex's command of conflict and characterization where characters are allowed to be imperfect is something more of us need to dive into! We love a byronic lead in Aemond where all his edges and issues are fully acknowledged, a wily and fantastic female lead in Wylla Karstark, and just an overall amazing AU where these characters are clawing for their happy ending.

@branwendaughterofllyr is writing a 'What if Vizzy and Daemon's youngest brother lives and has a daughter' AU, A poison Tree on AO3 - I haven't been able to dig into this yet but it's just such a fascinating and original concept to make this Dance make a little more sense, and bring more high stakes. She's a long time ASOIAF writer who is passionate about the source material and here to show you what this world can be. Do go check her work out!

Writing

We're returning to my epistolary story for Mori'na's time in the Inquisition. I've been adding things here and there but this year has been a time so I haven't really worked on it much. This is the most recent addition and was a late night idea (usually when the best ideas happen lol). Angst as always.

A tattered note, buried beneath the snow lost to prying eyes. Oh Mamae, what am I to do? All those people, they — they died, because of me. Because of this mark that scars my skin and pierces my soul. It hurts Mamae, it hurts so much. I don’t know where I am. I don’t know if this letter will ever be able to reach you. I fear I’m going to die. I’m trapped, beneath the rock and frost, in a cavern that is hard to sense direction in. The only light in front of me is this green hue, it makes me wonder why I ever liked such a color.

Misc.

1. A little thing I’ve been working on that I want to turn into a cross stitch pattern. I’ve never made a cross stitch pattern before but this idea has been in my head for awhile so I’m giving it a shot. It’s been fun pretty much researching how to make pixel art to make this. It’s nowhere near finished, there’s a few other elements I want to add that I have to figure out. It's not actually greyscale, it's just if I showed the colors it would be too obvious. Any guesses as to what it is? lol

2. My pants fabric!! I actually cut out the pieces I just don’t have a picture of them and I’m too lazy to take them out right now lol I got this fabric before I left for a month but I only just started getting to it. It’s been a time, vibes all off 😔 There’s going to be a matching top but I have to print that pattern out and I’m out of ink. I got the buttons for it though!

Life is suffering.

I'm struggling to hold it together long enough to finish the semester but it's going Not Well. The good gnus is I have finished a few short stories. The bad gnus is ... Everything else. I'll need to figure out when to post some of the stuff from the past few months because I'm never sure if I should be aiming for "peak hours" or just post it whenever is convenient. Unfortunately, I've been to exhausted to do anything other than work and such for a while now. I'm hoping that in a few weeks when I finish my finals I'll be able to unwind a bit and get some housekeeping stuff done. I also need to figure out what stories I've actually posted here and what I still have left to share. I know I did some CDE recently as well as the first stage of a slow(ish) macro growth story which I don't think has been posted here. I feel like I've also done some one shot stuff.

I'll try to give a brief recap of the past few months because I know people have been asking but also I know that most people don't want to have to scroll past a massive block of text so I'll keep it snappy.

I'm in an upper division accounting class. The final class I need to finish my bachelor's in accounting degree. The professor has structured the entire class around being a group oriented endeavor. All assignments (sans exams) are group projects. You'd think being an upper division course, everyone would be knowledgeable in the field and have at least the bare minimum moral fortitude and work ethic but you'd be wrong. My group has refused to do any work and since I dont want to fail because of other people I've been doing the work of 5 people by myself which is a huge part of why I'm so worn out.

I've spoken with the proff about it and at first she seemed to be on my side. Literally the whole class knows I'm the only one in my group doing work. During all the presentations I'm the only one who speaks and when the other members are forced to speak/answer questions they have no idea what to say. Like I've literally written briefs for them so they'd at least have something to say and they refuse to even read that.

A few weeks ago the proff pulled me aside after class and said that she'd grade my work separately from the rest of my group and that I should do the final assignment (which is like 40% of the class grade) solo and leave the rest of the group to handle themselves. I did the entire assignment by myself and emailed it to her rather than submitting it through the group portal. She responds to my email and said she has no idea why I would email her directly and told me i was supposed to use the group portal. She has no memory of us every talkin about the group issues so now the rest of the group are getting my grade on the final project even tho they didn't do anything. I haven't even heard from them in weeks. To make matters worse the proff never changed my grades and so I have the grades for the rest of the group (which are very low because we are graded on the participation of the whole group and since most of the group never participates in the presentation, and when they do they don't know anything about the subject I'm getting graded down for them not doing their job.)

I have a few more weeks and a few more assignments left of this shit. I just need to survive til mid may. Hopefully I don't crash and burn completely.

In other gnus. Things at work have been insane. I've been doing triple duty there as well. I work two jobs. One is a salary job which is tough to really say how much I actually do there ( but even then my salary is only 800 a month so it's not meant to be a full time job). On top of that I have my hourly work. I've been putting in over 100 hours at the hourly work pretty consistently lately.

On top of all that ny grandmother passed away at the start of the month. I ended up on an impromptu road trip to go to the funeral and deal with family stuff all while keeping up with work and school. I'm back home now but I'm extra exhausted and also down bad with the Rona. I'm tired and sore and sick and cranky as all get out.

But hopefully... I just need a few more weeks.

when it comes to ek's writing...well its telling that since we've gotten in to the content they've supposedly been working on for two years, people genuinely can't tell if their games/scripts are bugged and are going to forums/twitter for help. it's truly hard to imagine that a dev team would consider what they released up to part considering:

-how short the new updates have been - the most recent 'two chapter' update was about as long as each chapter of the split release because they missed another deadline (lol) and has no clear indicator of when the first chapter ends and the second begins or even a scene that would make sense as a chapter beginning/ending

-large swaths of recent chapters being entirely identical across multiple LIs including scenes that only make sense with specific routes (ex. for erik and maja's nomad route, the tavern scene plays out as if you romanced maja first and then choose the poly, even if you romanced erik first and haven't seen her in two chapters lol)

-basically no romantic content after officially starting a route (a few characters get crumbs in certain routes in the recent update but even that's like half of an already short scene) and no illustrations in the last two chapter update

-the lack of any clear path of where the plot's been going and where it'll end in the *checks notes* two chapters left to be released. at least in WTNC there was a very clear plotline being followed, tropey and problematic as it was. there's two chapters left in ek and i don't know who the primary antagonist is vs the secondary (or if there's a third), what their motivations are, there's no plan whatsoever on how to tackle them, no clarity on what's actually going wrong in the kingdom beyond bad vibes, the list goes on. its more like a collection of vaguely related scenes than an actual story.

i know they couldn't just quit on the game despite their clear lack of care for it, but barring a miracle in the final update there's a good chance they end up worse off from everything that's come out of them finishing it than they would have just abandoning it entirely. they've had to remove comments from itchio for both EK and WTNC to cover up all the complaints, and EK's steam page is getting tanked with bad reviews since its the only place to do it. i'm morbidly curious what their next kickstarter is going to look like post-EK, compared to call me under's which was done before people realized what it would mean for ek's quality.

You're 100% correct on everything AND I wanna say that the whole "yo wtf is the plot actually though" has been an issue even before they took the whole thing down to change engines or w/e. Like, I'm pretty sure it was up to chapter 5 -- or was it 3? -- when I last played it when it was still on Unity. And I remember thinking "Hey um ... So what exactly is ... wrong, in this errant kingdom? What's the plot? What's the actual conflict here?" and I thought how unlikely it was that they'd be able to scramble together not only a climax and resolution in the remaining chapters, but also wondered how they'd actually introduce an antagonist and actual conflict first.

And the fact that they had the perfect chance to fix the writing and plot when they took everything down and essentially started over, and DIDN'T do it? C'mon. They're scrambling to finish something they don't feel like doing at this point. I'm glad I never paid for any of their games (I got WTNC on Steam via a friend who had an extra key/a different friend who had it on itch.io and was willing to share the files, and EK through a charity bundle) but those who did probably feel hella ripped off by now.

TMI Tuesday

Hey there, Tumblr!

My goal for this month was to ease off on writing except to work on Solstice, so obviously I've written three chapters of Courtship in about two weeks.

It's just such a pressure release to let go of these words and scenes that have been cooking in my head since I started Golden Rings in 2021. Anyone who ever wanted to know how Mr. and Mrs. Gold first got together, this fic is your answer.

In the spirit of NaNoWriMo, I'm sharing my daily word count, last lines, and any errant thoughts I gathered while writing. My biggest revelation was realizing that with Courtship, I have an opportunity I've been wanting for a while now. I always seem to "find" my stories as I'm writing them, and I've always wanted to have the whole thing done before I posted it, to try to make things a little more cohesive. The real dream would be to create an actual second draft of the whole work, to re-write it from the beginning once I've written the ending. But that seems too ambitious even for this project, so I'll stick with being able to edit the beginning once I've written the ending.

Currently, the plan is to publish Courtship in weekly increments starting on the first Friday in January. For all I'm hyped to have the whole thing finished at once, I am even more hyped to see my readers' reactions to each chapter as the story unfolds.

In other news, Rumbelle Secret Santa is coming up! It's always so thrilling to know that I'll need to write something, but to have no idea in advance what the story is going to be. This is fast-cooking fic, instead of slow-cooking like Courtship. I think it's a great challenge and the world always needs more Rumbelle fics.

Hi! Gossip girl here❤️❤️ I hope you're doing well! ❤️❤️ I'm so sorry it took me so long to respond to your last response! I saw it but it was right around the time my college got busy with exams and final papers and stuff (went pretty well yeah!) but now I'm on break and have to chance to get back! Plus then my anxiety go the better of me  again for a bit there so I'm trying ti get back to it! But I hope you had a good Holidays and a good New Year!!

And also I did get to read the drunk Tommy story "Drunk on You" and it was so cute and made me laugh😂😂 Especially the part with the Ibble Dibble game! I didn't know that was a real game and looked it up😂 I loved that story! 

And yeah I'm not able to write when there's too much noise, I get distracted pretty easily and the idea of people I like live with finding out about it just makes me nervous for some reason even though I know they probably won't care too much😂 I have gotten to write more only I got stuck on the michael fic I was doing and started something else and then got stuck on that😅 But I also feel really bad that I haven't actually posted anything in months and I know I have things some people want me to continue but I go to write them and get stuck😅 I think I want to start doing stuff again but I may easy myself in with like headcannons where I can bullet point it out. 

And oh you've been reading Alfie stuff! That's cool! There really are some good writes for him! Every now and then I'll get on an Alfie kick and got through the tags with him just reading stuff😂😂 Truth be told I'm kinda on a Morpheus kick right now? From Sandman, have you seen that show? It's pretty good!

I have been on here for a while I guess but for the longest time I didn't post any stories just small things (and even that took a while) and I also still majorly interacted in anon. I think I've had longer interactions with some people as an anon going back and forth than I have as my account😅😅. Even though all my interactions have been good! Hopefully I'll fix that one day! 

And I actually haven't seen the new version of gossip girl, I actually haven't finished the original yet I should probably go back and do that😂 have you seen it?

I’m glad to hear you read that one! It was fun to write, I didn’t know about that game either, but I love adding those elements into the stories, think it adds a nice touch or make them different..

If you need/want to share ideas back and forth, I’m sure you can figure something out;) you know, recently I reblogged a post that said something like that idea you’re doubting, turn it into a Drabble, a small story, straight to the point it doesn’t have to be a 28 part series… and it’s been encouraging me to write more, sometimes I feel like, what’s the point? Is it worth it? And then boom something magic happens, and I get little “signals” that gives me the fuel to keep doing it, so the main point is… write that story! 🥰 I really like those bullet points, sometimes it’s a great resource for an idea, or a small line… (I hope you do share some of that)

Yes, I mean I’ve just read a few Alfie stories, but he’s such a rich character, I was watching this cene the other day when he says his classic Shalom Arfur, and man… he knows how to turns heads haha

RecentlyI haven’t been to the movies much or either watching movies at home, I just saw Peacock, the movie Cillian did and I’m still wondering why he didn’t get an Oscar for that role, (or breakfast on Pluto for the matter), he shaved his freaking eyebrows!!! And going back to series, I still need to watch the final part for Virgin River, writing has been consuming most of time recently and some days I feel like I do nothing lol

SuspiciousPopsicle - 11/01/2017 what if his parents tried to send him to a camp to pray the abnormality away when his powers first presented and there was abuse and what not going on, so even after he went home, his relationship with his parents was strained. he didn't stay long, and they didn't look too hard for him when he ran away. He was fourteen or fifteen, and looked a little bit older than he was, but he was in over his head and had to use his power a few times just to get a meal or sometimes a job so that he wouldn't starve to death. he made his way slowly across the country, hitchhiking, mostly. anyone that wanted something more from him than he was comfortable giving as payment for the lift suddenly decided that what they really wanted was to pull over and let this wonderful boy out. Disgusted with himself, wondering if sucking cock wasn't actually a more honest way to get as far from where he'd been born as possible, Jack kept going out of sheer determination. Prolly did a few minor acts of heroism along the way, which gave him a taste for it.

WIP DUMP 2020/2021

with a small fanfiction progress report (massive post inc)

It's been a long time since I posted anything but that's because I haven't really done much. Art, for me, is an incredibly time-consuming, frustrating and unrewarding experience. Everything I do, no matter how small, takes countless hours because I am striving for something I cannot achieve and my standards are, frankly, too high.

My biggest goal is to be able to draw like my favourite artist but that's simply out of my reach. As such I am stuck trying to imitate what he does without ever being happy about the results.

I am subscribed to him on patreon and got access to the brushes he uses which are used in the images below. Despite being unsure if or when I will ever finish any of these, I thought I might as well share what I have.

The first one is Alextrasza the Life-Binder from the Warcraft universe. This one was meant to be a gift for a friend and still is, if I ever finish it.

The idea behind it is heavily Dark Souls inspired: as the world slowly dies, she gives herself to the flame in order to keep it burning for the rest of her brood.

I have no concept of lighting so it's all over the place but the idea was to cover it up as good as possible with some heavy colour/effect editing.

The next one is a larger image dump since it's more detailed. My favourite Harry Potter character is, and always has been, Andromeda Tonks with Narcissa a close second. I like to play with AUs a lot and the one I will maybe, eventually, explore in that fic I keep fiddling with is basically Black Matriarch Andromeda.

An AU in which she decided that no boy is worth abandoning her family for and as the eldest of the sisters (I swapped the ages around) and the Black family being a matriarchy, she eventually becomes Head of the family.

Since Helena Bonham Carter is my favourite actress and she played Bellatrix in the movies, I used her as the basis for Andromeda's face and sharpened her features a little, gave her a more prominent nose to try and achieve an inherently aristocratic look.

Other than that, there's lots of raven imagery since those feature on the family crest and I like ravens.

The last one is just a sketch but it's still a wip so. It's one of my Warcraft OCs for this massive Ancient Empire/Highborne worldbuilding project I am occasionally working on. It revolves around Azshara, Tyrande, Vashj and various others.

The idea for those images was something resembling a tarot card set. There are five cards, one for each of the most "important" characters.

The Queen for Azshara, the General for Tyrande, the High Priestess for Neviril (OC), the Handmaiden for Vashj and the Consort for Zashj (OC).

This one is the Consort.

And that's it. I don't know when/if I will finish either of these since I'm currently trying to get back into writing to wrap up some of these multichapter stories I started for some godawful reason.

As for my fanfiction works, I recently published a oneshot about Tsunade and Sakura who both suffer from the consequences of the war. It's somewhat bittersweet and I enjoyed exploring yet another interpretation/version of my favourite character Tsunade.

As for the rest, I am almost done with the 5th Changeling chapter and there should be 4-5 left after that.

The next bit for Beware, the Three is the Origin set which is a 3-parter much like the Summons set. Shizune's is first and should be done within a week or so.

As for Loyalty, I am still on the fence whether I want to tackle it now or later but the thought is there.

Into the Depths will be postponed until I cleaned up some of the above wips since that one is something I can't work on alongside other fics. It's tricky and complicated and requires all my attention and I'm not ready to commit to that until I feel like I wrapped up some of the other fics.

Now I'm done. If anyone actually reads this long-ass post I salute you. If any of the chapters I mentioned above get released I'll make a post here because this blog is dead enough as it is.

I'll put something here and if I had already shared it before, we're gonna pretend it's brand new, alright?

It was huge, even making him feel small, and quiet, only the artificial sounds coming from below the ground and the distant roar from the ocean waves could be heard. He crawled freely, pushing against walls and biting things to see what they were made off.

And the further inside he went, the more interesting things he found. The dome had different levels on the inside, places that he didn’t know how to get too and curling tunnels that lead to swishing walls.

He had relaxed after not finding any white creature, lowering his guard so he didn’t notice something was close until he turned around a corner and came across a small creature with chubby cheeks and warm blood.

🏅 What is something you recently felt proud of in regard to your writing (finished a fic, actually planned for once, etc).

Oof Anon, asking the hard questions. I'll be honest, I've recently been struggling with fandom in general, both as an artist, a writer and a more or less active member. I had to officially put one of my WIPS in a hiatus until I can't get back to it and it made me sad that I had to do that.

But I do love trying to focus on the positive stuff so, here are some: I finally got to finish a prompt I was sent weeks ago and hopefully I'll manage to write the other ones I still have in my inbox soon. I posted it on Ao3 and received comments in other stories after so I reread those to answer the comments and I enjoyed it! Which was great because I had been feeling a bit insecure about my style. I have also dealt with something that was bothering me which means I have now a new project to work on! Finally, I sat down the other day to research for another project I had been pushing back for a while now so I can't wait to sit down and write
