Hazbin Hotel theory under the cut, feel free to ignore.
So we know Viv said one of the “main 6” is going to die, and I want to talk about who I think it is and isn’t going to be and why. Also where I think the next season is going.
Charlie - No. She’s our main character and the whole plot revolves around her. In episode 1 they also said that hell born were immune to the extermination because Lucifer rigged it that way. I do think Adam/Lute would ignore that clause because they hate Charlie so much, but again, main character.
Vaggie - Probably not. We just learned that she’s an angel, which theoretically makes her exempt for extermination as well. I would also assume, though we have no outright proof from the show itself, that angels can’t be killed by other angels. The only reason I could see it being her is that she sacrifices herself for Charlie, but it feels unlikely to me.
Alastor - No. He’s the most well known character from the show, even when I had no interest in Hazbin Hotel I still knew him on sight. It would be really stupid to kill him off so early in the show when we’ve barely explored his story and he hasn’t gone through any kind of arc yet. Also his beef with Vox has been pretty built up and I doubt it’s going to be resolved in the next 2 episodes. There’s also the question of who has him on a leash and that he’s been gone for 7 years, just like Lilith.
Angel - Probably not. Another well known and liked character, with 2 massive songs in episode 4. We haven’t seen him escape Val and heal from that yet. It would really cut the effectiveness of the Vs getting taken out in the plot. He was also the one used as the example in heaven, showing that sinners can change.
Husker - Maybe. Personally, I’m going to be big fucking mad if it is Husker, but I could see it being possible. He’s not as integral to the plot as everyone above, and mostly serves as a lackey for Alastor. I’m just a HuskerDuster shipper now and I want these 2 to be happy OKAY????
The sixth position is what’s really up for debate here, because we have 2 possible options. it could either be Nifty or Sir Pentious, I’m going to give my reasoning for both.
Nifty - Possibly. Nifty doesn’t have a ton of plot relevance, even if I think she’s fun. I put here on the same level as the cat or Razzle and Dazzle almost, background fluff to make the world seem more alive. I’ve seen people saying that Nifty is a physical manifestation of the hotel, in which case it might make sense for it to be her and the loss of their home base in the next extermination. It gives the right amount of upping the stakes for season 2.
Sir Pentious - Most Likely. I like Sir P, he’s goofy and ya know, voiced by My Boy but I think he’s the most likely to die. He’s only at the hotel because he was blackmailed into going in the first place and if he left would be killed by the Vs. He’s just hanging around, not doing much but is very prominently featured in the promo art and generally heavily advertised, but has not so far had a Major Song. The only thing we got from him is Starts With Sorry which is my lowest ranked song so far.
But there’s a whole separate reason I think it’s gong to be the Snake Boy. Alex Brightman voices both him and Adam and I think Adam is about to fall/get betrayed by heaven.
Hear me out on this one. Adam isn’t an angel, he’s described as “the first human soul in heaven” and people are categorized into either “sinners” (hell) or “winners” (heaven) when they die. But does he look like any of the other winners we saw? With his dark color palette, sharp teeth and horns? Not one bit, he looks more like the demons he hates so much. The only other characters of heaven origin that look like him are Lute, Vaggie and presumably other exterminators. Which were very possibly created to look a lot like him, if the fact that he named Vaggie is anything to go off of.
In the court scenes we find out that Adam came up with the whole extermination plan and it is not known throughout heaven that it happens at all. But Adam has now let that cat out of the bag and the others didn’t seem to be happy with the whole situation. I think the other angels are going to go to Sara and make her put an end to extermination, and Sara is going to banish Adam (and possibly Lute) to hell for everything they’ve done.
This goes into my season 2 and later predictions, where Adam and Charlie team up to take down heaven and equalize the system for everyone. Adam is a vindictive douche and would do anything to get payback, and though he hates Charlie will be happy to use her for his own ends. And I think there’d be a lot of comedic gold in having Charlie, Vaggie, Adam and Lute stuck together. And that’s not even talking about Adam and Lilith being forced neck into the same room together when she gets back into the picture.
After this I think there’s several places it could go, like a double backstab on Adam’s part by using the uprising he helped to create as proof that he was right all along and the exterminations were necessary. Or possibly them winning and breaking the cycle for all. I think the second option would tie into the themes of determination, forgiveness, redemption and found family that the show appears to be aiming for.
But that’s all up to Viv and Amazon.
Tagging @love-is-all-you-need-13 because they’re the ones who encouraged me to share. Thank you!

Do you think it’s significant that Talanah was the only NPC featured on the Forbidden West post? That’s always stood out to me because if they wanted to show that Aloy was bringing friends with her, they could have done a few of them and smaller, or just no one except the machines like the first game poster. One Talanah by herself and very prominent actually made me semi-hopeful that she’ll at least be the main NPC among whoever else is along for the ride and maybe hinting that she’ll be a romance for Aloy. Or am I reading too much into it? What do you think?
If you’re reading too much into it, then I’ve physically eaten the entire book, glue and all, in a fit of uncontrollable HYPE.
Maybe it’s wishful thinking, but I can’t help but cling to the hope that her primary and exclusive inclusion is significant. I absolutely agree with your reasoning and have the same questions—why just Talanah if she’s not going to be incredibly important? Why not everybody, or nobody? A couple thoughts to add:
One: the art was revealed before her comic was released, so at the time it wasn’t taken for granted that she’d even be returning. This makes me think having her on the art was very purposeful and intentional as a “✨HEY THIS CHARACTER IN THE FOREGROUND IS COMING BACK✨” moment.
Two, and perhaps even more striking (re: “why Talanah?”): she’s a very interesting choice for the game’s official art simply because she’s the only missable Alight ally. Erend and Varl are required quests—the game won’t progress at certain points until you complete their side quests. But the Hunters Lodge quest line, ending in Redmaw, is optional with (frankly) a number of hoops to jump through as barrier to entry. Looking at the number of players who have earned the trophy for slaying Redmaw, it’s something like 20%. And if you don’t complete it, Sona fights at the Alight instead. I hadn’t played HZD yet at the time of the HFW reveal, but combing back over old posts and stuff (like one does) there was a lot of “who is that?!” aimed at her inclusion. So WHY Talanah? If a side character was going to be included, why not Erend or Varl or somebody whom a player who only and at the very least completed the main quest would recognize? THAT, to me, makes me think she’s gonna be kind of a big deal to have earned the spotlight. (Romance or no romance—but like, hey. Look at me. I’d eat that right up and can’t act cool or pretend I wouldn’t.)
Somewhat tangential: this is why I think she was the topic of first comic—a sort of “look, if you didn’t meet her in the game, you might wanna go do that. She’s gonna be Important.” [note that I am specifically avoiding the Amadis topic, partly because he’s locked in a box on the far side of my brain, partly because I have another whole post planned for him Soon.]
As I said, this could just be me trying desperately to see what I want to see instead of what’s really there. More cynical explanations for it are at hand (i.e. she’s another woman, her armor is just visually striking, she’s Hot™, etc.). But I’m hoping the same as you, anon, and I don’t think our hope is without reason. I have a feeling we’re going to be explicitly seeing the Sunhawk in some promo or even another trailer soon, and that she’ll be a keystone in the HFW plot.

Clickbait Title: I Am OK with Damian Being Red X in Future State and Here’s Why
Preface: Future State is a non-canon, elseworld collection of stories set in a potential future of the DC universe. You can think of it as Future’s End 2.0, Convergence 2.0, or DC’s Age of Apocalypse. It does not and will not have any effect on the main DC universe. The concern over Damian being Red X in the main continuity is largely irrelevant and unnecessary. But I must acknowledge the tendency of comic book publishers to make certain things that were supposed to be non-canon but ended up becoming popular into canon in one form or another.
Here’s the rest of the post:
DC has not acknowledged Damian Wayne in any of the recent solicits for Future State, even though most of the prominent members of the Batfamily have some role in this so-called event (that is not in any way canon, I feel the need to keep reiterating this).
This has told fans two things. One, that DC is still set on marginalizing Damian, even in non-canon material. I personally don’t require Damian to be in every piece of Batman or Batfamily media, but his non-appearance in Future State is indicative of a larger pattern.
The second thing is that DC potentially has a plan for Damian and that plan is for him to become Red X. Like I said, DC hasn’t confirmed this or even hinted at this in any capacity. This is only fan speculation, but it does make a certain amount of sense. Damian is absent when all the other former Robins have books, but Red X, a character known for their mysterious identity, is featured on Future State’s promo art. It’s easy to correlate the unknown identity of Red X to being Damian when he isn’t shown anywhere else.
I don’t like making Damian a villain and start killing, but if DC wants to put Damian in a more antagonistic role (being an antagonist doesn’t make a character evil, it just means you’re a cause of conflict for the protagonist), then Red X is a decent choice for that. The second Red X in the Teen Titans cartoon was an antagonist to the Titans, but he was more of an anti-hero than a villain because he wasn’t outright malicious, just selfish.
I don’t want DC to make Damian an antagonist to his father because of that negative perception surrounding antagonists, but if DC wanted to shift gears away from the more positive but subservient role of Robin for Damian to a more independent, anti-heroic rebel role, then I would be down for it, so long as they know what they are doing and make it good, but that’s highly unlikely which is cause for concern.
Damian doesn’t have to be Robin. His character isn’t contingent on that fact, but what it is contingent on is letting him grow. Damian is a redemptive character and that is why fans love him and just because “R stands for Redemption” doesn’t mean fans want him as Robin, they just want his growth as an individual to stick beyond the end of a story.
I actually kind of like the concept of Damian as Red X. Damian has the technological skills and the resources available to the Red X suit and tech. And the character of Red X doesn’t have to be like the character from the show. Just look at the Arkham Knight in the comics. The Arkham Knight was Jason Todd’s way being introduced in the Batman Arkham games, but in the comics the Arkham Knight is an entirely original character that just so happens to use the same moniker and armor as the video game character. The same can be said of Damian and Red X.
There’s nothing wrong with making Damian strike it out on his own and become more independent and step out of the shadow of his father (which wasn’t really that much of a problem for fans, but apparently was for DC), but why he’s stepping away and how it was done is the biggest problem with how DC has treated him. Maybe DC genuinely believes that his familial relationship with Bruce and his role as Robin is too limiting and making him more independent will actually help the character instead of hinder him. But if DC wants to be edgy about it, then Red X is a an acceptable way of doing that.
Plus, Damian becoming Red X would carry on the tradition of former Robins taking on new codenames that have the word red in it (Jason as Red Hood and Tim as Red Robin).

about me tag game thing
i was tagged by the wonderful @nothingunrealistic! thank you very much ily <3
under read more bc i was not capable of keeping my answers brief this time around
why did you choose your url?
this...was supposed to be a short explanation but it turned into quite a tale so strap in i guess because we are going on a ride. back in 2017 i was just getting into musical theatre rp and i was still feeling too shy to really talk to anyone ooc so i would just wait for people i wanted to interact with to post starter calls so i could just do things in character with them the easy way. So i did this with my friend cam, who posted a starter for me using a lyric from If I Could Tell Her. she linked the song so i could listen to it, so i did and i went ‘wait a minute, is that Ben Platt from Pitch Perfect?? (and other things too, but i only recognized his voice at the time bc of the acappella girl movies)’ and yes it certainly was.
i had zero idea what the plot of Dear Evan Hansen was about at that point, and for some reason based off Just That One Song and the poster art of who i assumed was Some Guy in a Polo Shirt i started to think it was about some jock guy who broke his arm and had an emo/goth friend who had either died or gone missing under mysterious circumstances. also i intuited that Evan had a crush on his friend’s sister but he couldn’t tell her that directly or his emo friend would kick his ass. so i was like mostly wrong, but a little bit right.
oh and i knew jared and alana were characters from the show bc cam said that they were i think?? but i had no idea what their role was. so after listening to if i could tell her, i listened to good for you and all i really got out of that was that evan the apparently not-jock guy had done...something... that really hurt jared and alana. and at that point i finally decided to go look up a plot synopsis and i found out i was waaay off base. but honestly this is why cast recordings should include scene dialogue in the songs bc otherwise you just get soundtracks like dear evan hansen where the songs have like. zero context. we really just go from waving through a window to for forever to sincerely me without like. any reason as to what is happening huh. It’s honestly not a surprise anymore that all those people on twitter had no idea the plot isn’t about gay teenagers.
anyways. cam was writing jared and she made a post at one point about wishing somebody would write alana and i was like ‘oh i could do that!’ (after i had actually Seen a bootleg and finally knew what the whole story was, of course) so i made a multimuse rp blog featuring alana beck, nabulungi hatimbi, chloe valentine and some other characters, and cam started sharing her headcanons with me that alana is trans, jared and alana were close friends when they were little kids but they sort of drifted apart as they got older and their priorities in life changed, jared was the first person alana came out to when she realized she’s trans, etc.
one night i started talking about wanting to pick a more theatre-relevant url for my blog and trans-[character name] urls were getting pretty popular, and at least 3 of the friends i made through rp had changed theirs to coordinating trans-[character name] and i think it was cam suggested i should make mine be trans-alana so i did. eventually i realized the unhyphenated version was available so i changed it to transalana with no hyphen and i have lived here ever since. sometimes i think about changing it but i feel like transalana has become a part of My Brand and i am not so great with coming up with cool names for things.
any side blogs? if you have them, name them and why you have them
in theory, i have sideblogs... i don’t really use them, but of the ones i do have, there is:
emsbookblog - this was supposed to be where i would post excerpts of the book that i’m working on, but i think i did that maybe one time roughly 2 years ago and then promptly forgot about it/got nervous about my writing and was scared to share anything else. the rest of the stuff that is there is assorted writing tips. i don’t really know what to do with it now. i probably should post all my little thoughts about em and anita and caleb there instead of infodumping on my main from time to time, but if i do that then i have to promo a sideblog and direct people over to it which is always annoying to me when i could just do it on this blog which is much easier
dearnovelhansen - this is basically no longer used, but was a sideblog i made specifically to talk/complain about the novel adaptation of Dear Evan Hansen which was about 3 years ago?? maybe? i can’t be trusted to understand the passage of time. but to summarize: i thought it was an honor just to have the story be made more accessible since many of us couldn’t see the stage performance, but i hated a lot of the creative liberties that were taken. my main grumbles are that everyone who isn’t evan or connor is done so dirty in the novel. connor’s still kind of done dirty in the book, but not as much as like. heidi, alana, jared, and zoe are.
horseisle3 - this one was meant to be a place where i could just enthusiastically post screenshots from hi3, but instead it turned into a blog where i occasionally reblog other players’ hi3 content and bitch about how bad the game admins are bc hi3 is the tumblr famous (infamous?) homophobic horse game. the game where it was once okay to call your club store the gulag bc according to their head of hr, ‘it’s just a russian word for prison’ but you can’t say ‘im gay’ without somebody accusing you of corrupting young children who play the game. unfortunately there aren’t very many good interactive horse games out there, so this one is still about as good as it gets. it’s either that or star stable and i don’t care about star stable.
mlaenie - i’ve had this url saved for i don’t even know how long. way way way back in the day when i wanted to escape from the clutches of the onceler fandom i abandoned my first blog where i basically had an alter ego i guess?? and i decided to just be myself on the new blog. i don’t fully remember who came up with it, but one of my sister’s mutuals suggested that if you scrambled the letters in your name you could come up with aesthetic-looking urls. so lauren’s url became lrauen, and to match with her mine became mlaenie, which i abandoned on tumblr after about a year or so? but have continued to use as my main username on twitter, reddit, youtube, xbox, steam, and discord. i barely ever use any of these accounts aside from twitter, steam, and xbox, but yeah. so i’ve decided to try and turn this empty sideblog into a place for video game thoughts maybe. we’ll see how long it lasts this time around.
how long have you been on tumblr?
i made my first tumblr account in december of 2010, but i didn’t understand how to use it at all or how to customize my theme to look cool and unique so i quickly abandoned it. i made a new account in september of 2011 after some kids at school and my sister told me i should and i have been trapped here with varying degrees of activity/inactivity ever since. i have witnessed the rise and fall of the lorax/onceler fandom, hyperfocused on lord of the rings, star wars and back to the future all at the same time, and for the past 4 years i’ve mostly been a musical theatre blog with assorted other fandom stuff mixed in. i feel i have seen everything and nothing, but mostly i’m just tired and bored.
do you have a queue tag?
no bc i don’t use a queue. i’ve tried using it in the past but i irrationally feel pressured to sustain a coherent theme to queued posts and my brain simply does not vibe with that so i just don’t use it at all anymore. Instead i instantly reblog or post several unrelated thoughts in succession and then don’t post again at all for 3 days. the way god intended
why did you start your blog in the first place?
my very first blog was intended to be a place for me to post all of my petz 5 animals’ profile info, but i didn’t have any understanding of how coding worked at all and i don’t think i really wanted to learn, either. so it just sat there, unused. my second attempt at blogging was as a classic rock fandom person, so as you can probably imagine i was pretty pretentious about ‘modern pop’ vs the beatles, the rolling stones, the who, the monkees, and so on. and then i slowly devolved into a lorax fandom blog and everything went to shit so i made a new blog for lord of the rings/the hobbit which later evolved to include star wars and back to the future blogging. and then for the past 4 years i’ve been mainly a musical theatre blog with other random stuff i like thrown haphazardly into the pot. wonderful.
why did you choose your icon/pfp?
because my url is transalana and two of my most prominent lgbt headcanons are that alana beck is trans and a lesbian. i gotta be shouting out @kinqmike though bc she’s the one i adopted the trans alana beck headcanon from in the first place!
why did you choose your header?
in 2017 i was hyperfixating on Dear Evan Hansen (and Be More Chill, but there weren’t many gif-able videos then considering it ran for a month in New Jersey in 2015 and there was only one yet-to-resurface 35 minute bootleg) so i just grabbed a random gif off of google. i really should get to replacing it with a new header of my own though. i just don’t know what i should do for it.
what’s your post with the most notes?
i have lost track of how many notes it has (i think it’s somewhere around 200 now?) but when Will Roland and George Salazar performed Two Player Game on Good Morning America, i posted a screencap of their Jeremy and Michael along with that one quiz answer meme that says stuff like ‘i want to see it grow up healthy’. i didn’t tag it with any ship names or anything because i was anxious about having it show up in the tags, but somebody who reblogged it from me did tag it as boyf riends and i firmly believe it took off because of that. i don’t think i make posts that are relevant enough to amass thousands of notes, even by accident. which is probably a good thing bc if i did i would have to block so many of them.
how many followers do you have?
on this blog? 175 according to the counter. how many of those are still real people and how many are bots and abandoned accounts? i have no idea.
how many people do you follow?
i try to keep it somewhere around 200. i think i’m sitting at 180 right now but i kind of need to go through and clear out the really inactive blogs.
have you made a shitpost?
let’s think about this for a second. i’ve been on tumblr for nearly 10 years. you might even be able to say i’ve made more than one. they’re just not what you would call...popular shitposts.
how do you feel about ‘you need to reblog this’ post?
that stuff makes me so incredibly anxious that i have to fight the urge to want to yeet my laptop or mobile device through the closest window whenever i read it, so i try very hard to avoid any sort of ‘if you don’t reblog this, i’m judging you’ posts. i find them very manipulative and not particularly helpful
do you like tag games?
yeah babey!! i just frequently forget to do them, but please know that if you have ever tagged me in a tag game i felt incredibly touched by the gesture and the @mention even if i completely forgot to do the thing afterward
do you like ask games?
i do! but also rip to literally anyone who has ever sent me an ask meme bc it takes me so long to answer them. i’m still working on a micro fic prompt from a few weeks ago. also, horrified to realized that it has in fact been a few weeks and not 3 days anymore.
which of your mutuals do you think is tumblr famous?
i don’t know that any are tumblr famous as a whole. but probably @neverheardnothing
do you have a crush on a mutual?
in any sort of romantic connotation? no. not that i’m aware of. there are mutuals that i have friend crushes on where i want to be friends with them but i get so anxious when it comes to meeting new people that usually nothing ever comes of it. i’m really not good at small talk or other casual conversation either which, as you may or may not be able to imagine, sucks. i just wanna skip over all of the awkward introductions and ‘hey how are you, how is life, what are you doing with yourself?’ stuff. not because i don’t care about it. i do, but i think most of my friends/the people i want to be my friends are also depressed and anxious so asking these basic questions about life tends to uh. make us all nervous. and i don’t do much with my life so i always have the most boring answers anyways.
i’m not tagging anyone officially bc the @ thing has just completely given up on me at this point, but if you want to do it, go for it. and then say i tagged you so i can read it c:

Quick Thoughts on the July Ep Titles
3x17: Arts and Inhumanities
I’ll stick with production order to keep things easier to understand. A clear reference to Andi displaying her art piece at the Middle School which leads to her touring an art High School with at least Jonah and Cyrus accompanying her. I’m curious to see what the inhumanities pun is all about.
One thing I wonder after seeing the Muffy bowling alley plot being included in the June eps promo is if it was moved from 3x17 to 3x16. If so, there’s a decent chance that the new Muffy plot with pro basketball players visiting the school that they filmed to replace the Muffy plot at the original wedding in 3x18 will be slotted in to 3x17. I don’t think there was going to be any long gap in universe between the bowling alley and the original wedding; the dramatic way they’re sinking Machel seems primed to lead to a fairly quick resolution.
The working title for 3x17 was I Do Over and was obviously where Bex decided the wedding was back on and Ham almost certainly helped with that. Bexie will still get married it’s just a question of whether it’s a small Mack family only affair or they re-wrote the Jandi get back together in 3x20 to also be a wedding. If they went with a Mack family only low key wedding which Bex always wanted anyways, then this is a good ep to slot it in. Since all the Bexie scenes in 3x19-21 were written and acted with the knowledge that they were married it may be hard for the show to try and shift the new wedding into a later ep.
3x19: Something to Talk A-Boot
A clear reference to Buffy injuring her foot which presumably happens during the Spikes final game which partly explains why they only filmed basketball scenes for part of one day. There’s not much difference between introducing a sport injury plot line with just two eps left in the series and never introducing it all so I’m side eyeing Terri for shoving this in so late. It reads like something she had wanted to explore in a potential S4 and just decided to throw in before they ran out of time. The Spikes plot has been pretty poorly written and paced but I hope they at least get the cliched underdogs triumph at the big game plot.
I made what turned out to be a very well timed post last night talking about how the original wedding in 3x18 was the cut ep and that TJ would return 3 eps later instead of 4 and that TJ and Cyrus would be the big winners of the cuts and now we have confirmation of that. Losing an ep drags all the other story lines down a bit which makes Tyrus more equal and now the gap between TJ’s appearances is in line with the straight recurring characters and will feel more balanced overall. And the big difference is we won’t have to see Cyrus with Amber at the wedding while Andi is with Jonah and Buffy with Marty; no matter the in universe justification it would have been a stark reminder of how censored Cyrus’ story line has been and it would have tarnished the show’s legacy. It’s sad that it took such horrible circumstances to make this happen but at least Cyrus and TJ got to benefit from the FBI’s good work.
A common thread in a lot of the 3c ep titles is that they reference a literal thing that happens in one plot line but also works on a thematic level as a reference to the other plots. Will Cyrus’ screen play give people something to talk about? Will whatever happens between Tyrus at the theatre? We’ll definitely  see Cyrus and TJ talking and moving past their conflict but we also have Jandi/Tyrus having scenes together for only the third time in the entire series (if we count them all being at the game in 2x18) and if Andi talks to TJ in 3x19 it will also be only the third time she’s ever talked to him. It’s very significant that these four have scenes together especially since in otl it was only Muffy who were together by this point and with them having written the Tyrus plot in 3x15 in a way designed to completely wall it off from the other main characters. Not to mention that before the re-shoots 3x19 was the last time they ever filmed at the school. This is likely when the show starts bringing some of the Tyrus subtext into text and is allowed to clue the casual audience in to the fact that Tyrus is not a crack ship or queerbait.
3x20: A Moving Day
Another title that works on multiple levels: a reference to Celia announcing that she’s selling the house and an emotionally moving day as the Mack family has a last hurrah and Jonah sings You Girl to Andi. I also wouldn’t be shocked if this is the ep where Bex and Bowie announce they’re having another child. I don’t think the title is in reference to it but the best case ending for Jonah’s story line is his family moving into an apartment of his own and I wonder if we’ll hear about that or if we end the series with him still living with relatives.
The logical endgame for Celia and Ham was always them leaving to travel the world and the only question is whether Celia is giving the house to Bex and Bowie and they move in before the party in 3x21 or if she’s selling the house to someone else. They may have re-worked the Mack family outing/Jandi get together to also be a Bexie wedding. Either way I think Celia decides to travel because her work is done: Bex is now living the kind of life Celia had always hoped for after a 14 year detour, Bex and Bowie are married and likely have an in wedlock baby on the way, and Andi has the nuclear family she always wanted with her biological parents. Celia is likely the character who suffered the most from Ham being cut and I hope her arc was salvaged.
3x21: We Were Here
I think I’ll likely make it through the ep itself without getting too emotional but if they do a photo montage of the cast during the end credits like they did for the S1 and S2 finales that will break even my cold, black heart. We’re sure to have lots of lovely moments in this ep: Mack family moments, GHC + Jonah moments, Tyrus getting together, likely a Muffy kiss, Jandi moments, Kira’s redemption, and whatever else Terri wants to touch on one last time. Lot’s of callbacks I’m sure to the party way back in 1x04 for the characters who were there like Andi and Buffy and Cyrus and Jonah and Bex and Amber and Marty.
I wonder if they were able to salvage any Celia scenes from the 4 scenes they cut from the top of the ep after Ham was cut. If they did then I’d expect her to say goodbye and leave within the first five minutes. If they did have Celia sell the house to someone else then that means Terri was slamming the door shut on S4; the show would find it difficult to lose that set and almost impossible to lose Andi Shack which is so important to the show and is prominently featured in the opening credits. It would certainly lend a sombre atmosphere to the finale if this was a good bye party for the Mack house.
On the other hand it does make a lot of sense for Celia to give Bex and Bowie the house especially  if they have a kid on the way and it would bring the Bex and Celia relationship full circle in many ways. If the baby announcement didn’t come in 3x20 then it will come here, I think that’s why Bowie is wearing his dad’s tuxedo, because he’s becoming a father again and this time he’ll be in the baby’s life from the very beginning. Another winner of 3x18 being cut is the finale itself. If the original farm wedding was still happening then the finale would just look like a more crowded and lamer version of what we had already seen. It’s going to be a wild few weeks and I’m excited to see how things wrap up even though each ep will bring us closer to the end. To think that this is the last time we’ll ever discuss new ep titles.

This is part two of this list here HANGED MAN PROMO REC LIST. I’m going to split these up in a slightly different way than the other list, but I will still go into a bit of detail as to why I think a fan of The Last Sun would enjoy these books too.
Tumblr media
Fey Novels
I’m going to start with basically anything and everything by Holly Black, because she knows how to build fantastical, beautiful, scary worlds that are detailed and fleshed out in a similar way to how the world of The Last Sun is.
The Folk of the Air series is comprised of three books, The Cruel Prince, The Wicked King and The Queen of Nothing, and I devoured all three as soon as I got my hands on them. I’m typing this fresh off of having read the third and last book of the trilogy in fact. In terms of LGBT rep the main character’s sister has a female love interest and there are other characters scattered throughout who are very obviously not heterosexual. Lots of political intrigue and power moves between the courts too, which is another reason why TLS readers might enjoy!
The Darkest Part of the Forest is a stand alone novel (sadly). “Children can have a cruel, absolute sense of justice. Children can kill a monster and feel quite proud of themselves. A girl can look at her brother and believe they’re destined to be a knight and a bard who battle evil. She can believe she’s found the thing she’s been made for.” It’s just really good in all honesty, kick ass characters, strong friendships and family bonds, great plot and one of the main characters is gay and another is bisexual.
Tithe and the sequel Ironside are both very good and a more ‘urban’ fantasy than Folk or Forest which, to me at least, are more pure fantasy in a way although all of them take place in the modern world. It’s been a while since I read these two specifically, Tithe has a gay main supporting character who I really liked, and he’s also in Ironside too.
Moving away from Holly Black but staying within the realm of fey magic the Wicked Lovely series is a beautiful mix of urban and fey magic. Each book in the series stays within the same world and plot line but generally delves into a different character’s POV. Ink Exchange is technically the second book in the series but my favourite and IMO can be read alone, but I would recommend the entire thing. Two of my favourite bisexual characters are heavily featured in this and pop up through out the rest of the series, sometimes only a little and sometimes a whole lot.
Prince of Air and Darkness by M.A. Grant. “The only human student at Mather’s School of Magick, Phineas Smith has a target on his back. Born with the rare ability to tap into unlimited magick, he finds both Faerie Courts want his allegiance—and will do anything to get it. They don’t realize he can’t levitate a feather, much less defend the Faerie Realm as it slips into civil war.” I MEAN how could you read that description as a TLS reader and NOT want to give this one a go????
Abhorsen Series
In another realm entirely the Abhorsen series is a stunning example of world building which starts with the novel Sabriel, then Lirael and then Abhorsen. I can’t remember there being any lgbt characters in these three, I read them like ten years ago and they were published in 1996 so that kind of explains that, but I love them so much, they’re so well written and I really think fans of TLS will like these. They aren’t urban, but they’re very fantasy and the magic system is super interesting. Possibly one of my favourites in any book ever.
“Sent to a boarding school in Ancelstierre as a young child, Sabriel has had little experience with the random power of Free Magic or the Dead who refuse to stay dead in the Old Kingdom. But during her final semester, her father, the Abhorsen, goes missing, and Sabriel knows she must enter the Old Kingdom to find him.”
Comics
I recommended the Batwoman series last time, this time the rec I’m making is for a comic series called The Wicked & the Divine. The art work is beautiful and concept is unique and intriguing: “Every ninety years, twelve gods incarnate as humans. They are loved. They are hated. In two years, they are dead.” It’s also lovely and diverse in it’s cast. I think fans of TLS will enjoy the characters in this especially.
Saga is also very popular with sci fi fantasy fans, so I think a lot of TLS fan will be into this if they wanna give comics a go. “When two soldiers from opposite sides of a never-ending galactic war fall in love, they risk everything to bring a fragile new life into a dangerous old universe.” I’ve only personally read the first issue of this but I enjoyed it a lot. The art is really pretty and it’s quite diverse from what I’ve heard/seen, but I’m not 100% sure about lgbt characters. I know there are some in but I’m not sure how prominent they are.
DRAGONS
Dragons. That’s all i’m saying. If Rune could turn into a dragon or ride a dragon... ahh the possibilities are endless. If anyone asks why this rec section is on the list i’m just gonna say its part of my shiny new determination to see Rune turn into a dragon in a sequel later down the line. I think we only see a dragon once in The Last Sun right at the start but man. It got me hankering for more you know? K.D. Edwards if you’re reading this... you know what to do ;) .
The King’s Dragon by W.M. Fawkes and Sam Burns. “Lord Tristram Radcliffe has a secret—he is the only dragon at the king’s court in Llangard. It’s a secret he’s kept from the knights he’s fought beside, from the ladies who bat their lashes at him, and from his closest companion, Prince Reynold. If it were to get out, he’d be banished to the Mawrcraig Mountains along with the rest of his kind, but the kingdom of men is the only one he’s ever known, and his heart lives in the stone halls of those who’d count him an enemy.”
Silk & Steel by Ariana Nash. “A tormented dragon prince. A captured elven assassin. Duty demands they fight for their people, but love has other plans.”
Other
Spellbound by Allie Therin. “Arthur Kenzie’s life’s work is protecting the world from the supernatural relics that could destroy it. When an amulet with the power to control the tides is shipped to New York, he must intercept it before it can be used to devastating effects. This time, in order to succeed, he needs a powerful psychometric…and the only one available has sworn off his abilities altogether.” Another disclaimer: I haven’t read this one yet but the reason it’s on my list in the first place is because it gave me some TLS vibes so I thought i’d bring it to everyone else’s attention too!
Black Dog Blues by Rhys Ford. “Ever since being part of the pot in a high-stakes poker game, elfin outcast Kai Gracen figures he used up his good karma when Dempsey, a human Stalker, won the hand and took him in. Following the violent merge of Earth and Underhill, the human and elfin races are left with a messy, monster-ridden world, and Stalkers are the only cavalry willing to ride to someone's rescue when something shadowy appears.”
Girls of Paper and Fire by Natasha Ngan. THIS BOOK. oh my god. “Each year, eight beautiful girls are chosen as Paper Girls to serve the king. It's the highest honor they could hope for...and the most demeaning. This year, there's a ninth. And instead of paper, she's made of fire.” Such a beautiful, well crafted fantasy world. Such rich characters. Ugh i love it and the f/f romance it brings to the table.

Today’s blog is going to be a bit different. It’s one of the rare Mondays we aren’t holding our weekly meeting, in that it’s the Labor Day holiday here in the US and a bunch of us are all over the place taking care of everything from finishing up conventions to driving a kid back to college.
So, while we still have our updates and all that, I don’t have a meeting’s worth of notes to share with you in some mutated form. Instead, I thought I’d selfishly take the opportunity to talk about one of my processes; specifically, the process I go through to design the look of one of our game line’s cover treatments.
In this case, I’m talking about the cover for Trinity Continuum: Aberrant.
To do that, we need to go back to when I was designing the overall look of the entire Trinity Continuum line. Sitting down and considering what direction to go with it, I made the a call to make sure the covers let folks know that they were part of a series, rather than the direction of the original editions where I wanted each core book to reflect the genre the game was designed to emulate.
I’m talking about the funky and unique plastic binding of Trinity (Aeon), the graphic novel look of the Aberrant cover, and the pseudo-distressed look of an old pulp magazine for Adventure!.
I think we did a pretty nice job on them way back when, but now that we are emphasizing the fact that these game lines exist in a Trinity Continuum, I was looking for a way that the cover treatments would also relay that information.
A timeline sort of feel – something that could be read as moments along the Continuum – was what I was looking for, but my first idea, a single illustration that we’d cut sections out of for each main book, just wouldn’t work as intended. After all, we expect to add all sorts of new time periods and genres, so how could those be worked into a single illustration before we even could know which ones we were doing?
Instead, what if each point on the timeline that represented a new slice of the Continuum was represented by a vertical illustration that collaged together the high points of that setting? I could picture them springing up all along the timeline, with maybe the “tent pole” game settings of the Trinity Continuum: Core, TC: Adventure!, TC: Aberrant, and TC: Aeon, getting the largest and most involved images for their covers, and other books having treatments that were as involved as the books warranted.
Something like this:
That would give us an underlying structure that tied into the Continuum concept – and it is always a good thing to try and put new concepts into some sort of visual design that reinforces and even explains that new concept – yet not have a design that would constrict our ideas and cover visuals.
Here’s what the TC: Core and TC: Aeon covers look like:
Now for TC: Aberrant, I was able to start with continuing the structure set up with the previous covers, and I had the original edition’s collage cover by the awesome Tom Fleming to draw imagery from to give us the quite accurate sense of a connection between the two editions. So things like a cityscape at the bottom, and making sure we got a T2M logo somewhere in it, were natural choices for imagery.
Which scenes, which head-shots, and which full figures to be featured were a different matter entirely. A lot depended on just what we wanted this edition to have as themes, or basically, what kind of moments and characters best show off the setting folks will find past the cover?
For the biggest, focal-point full-body figures: we’d talked about the changes to The Fireman’s story, so I knew he was still an inspirational figure – maybe even moreso in this edition. I even played around with having the central image be his statue, but decided on keeping the focus on the living hero.
Divas Mal, of course, needed to be in a position of prominence, and I wanted the swirl of his cloak to talk about one of our most iconic characters also being a comic book character. Around him, the leading figures in his movement, since Mal was still a messianic figure that movements coalesced around in this edition.
Some rough sketches along the way to the cover design.
Then between them, another iconic and powerful character, Antaeus – even before we knew the lead-in webcomic would feature him. Smaller figures would run the gamut of the various kinds of Novas – mercenary Elites, celebs in the public eye, T2M members, etc. I also wanted a wide range of physical types.
Some head-shot characters as a call back to the first edition cover, and to break up the figures on a visual level. I knew Matthew and Eddy were anxiously awaiting a chance to pitch a supplement detailing the Nova wrestlers that featured way to prominently in first edition (IMHO), so Lance Stryker reprises his head-shot, along with the iconic Cestus Pax to reassure long-time fans that the hero you love to hate was still in there. (Especially since Ian Watson had already made some strong changes to the character).
Just like on the previous two book covers, the three characters above the cityscape are new ones, but again, I was pushing to hit some archetypes and expand some physical types. Plus, we had discussed a long time back that “inventor” type characters would be able to go all Tony Stark, so a powered-suit character needed to be on there to suggest that change in this edition.
For iconic scenes, I started with the Galatea explosion, and the attack on the Lincoln Memorial by Geryon. Both of those have also been moments from which a lot of the further events of the setting sprung. Then a few more, like a T2M rescue just to get the team into the cover a tad bit more, as even tweaked, I know they were still a great entry point for lots of folks coming to TC: Aberrant already aware of the idea of superhero teams.
Because, even with all that pre-planning, there were still tweaks to be made. The biggest came late in the actual illustrating when I was reminded that in this edition’s continuity Slider isn’t murdered. I’d designed the cover before the writing was done, and forgotten I’d included the Slider assassination as one of the cover moments. Whoops! We had to get that fixed even later than Mirthful Mike’s cover mock-up for the Kickstarter.
And please, lest you think this whole blog is me suggesting the covers are all a RichT production of a RichT idea, directed by and starring RichT, let me be clear that most of my efforts end by handing off my sketches to Mirthful Mike Chaney, who not only art directs the cover illustrations based on the sketches, but follows up on the illustrator’s versions and my notes on them, and then makes the illustrations sing by how he has done the graphic design for the covers.
Fantastic artist Shen Fei, who has illustrated the covers for all three books so far, has so far blown away and improved my ideas by a quantum level – and I expect that TC: Adventure! will also be for more beautiful than I imagined as I sketched it out! (And I can imagine a fair bit of beautiful.)
So, that’s pretty much it for this week. Just a little peak behind the scenes on how we do the voodoo that we do so well in order to illuminate our:

Thanks to Impish Ian Watson for posting this: “50 years ago today, two computers at UCLA were connected via a 4.5-meter cable, giving birth to what we call the Internet. Happy birthday, Internet.” Because without the internet, Onyx Path would just not work – we need the connections around the world to do what we do!
