this is his third injury this week alone...
healer x auror
also I know it's unconventional but I like the idea of healers also using certain muggle tools but the ✨magic✨ version of it

Fanart Advent Calendar: Day 18!
For Heal Thyself, by @astolat. An amazing Draco-centric fic, in which he becomes a healer. I loved this story, Draco's characterization, his journey, how he changed and how he did not.
This piece is part of a personal challenge: an advent calendar featuring one fanart a day for some of my favourite fics, from the 1st of December to the 24th.

This is written for the prompt “careless” from @drarrymicrofic
Word count: 197
Drarry microfic: poisonous
Cw: being poisoned
“I can’t believe you were that careless!” Draco exclaimed. He ran around the room, taking ingredients left and right and throwing them into his cauldron. “You know those plants are dangerous!”
Harry sighed from where he was sitting on the examination table. He had lost count of how many times he had been here. “I’ve been through worse.”
“You—” Draco turned around, his silver eyes ablaze. He pointed a long finger in Harry’s direction. “You are unbelievable.”
Harry huffed a laugh, a fond smile on his lips. He stood from the table and stumbled his way over to Draco. “I love you,” he said softly as he fell into Draco’s arms, ignoring the searing pain that shot up his back. “You’re amazing.”
“Oh, Merlin.” Draco sighed. “The poison must be spreading quicker than I thought when you’re spouting such nonsense.” He led Harry back to the examination table, making sure he was comfortable. “Hold on a little longer,” he continued. “The antidote is almost done.”
If Harry wasn’t currently fighting the side effects of the poison streaming through his veins, he would have thought he saw a deep blush on Draco cheeks when he turned back around.
Prompt from March 28th

“What course?” Draco said, then, “No, don’t be ridiculous,” when he realized she meant the notice pinned up on the board he’d been staring at: Applicants To The Introductory Mediwizard Course For The Coming Term Shall Present Themselves In The Chief Mediwizard’s Office By August 24th.
“Oh, I thought you might,” she said. “Well, goodbye.” And off she wandered again in her addled way.

Bouquet
Maybe he should have brought the other man some chocolates, or maybe roses would have been the better choice. Maybe he should have gotten him a card or one of those giant stuffed bears.
But surely, Harry thought as he marched through the halls of St. Mungo’s, he should have brought something other than himself.
Before he could do anything about it, though, he was in the door to Draco’s office, staring at him. His fingers were threaded through his hair where his head rested on his hand, his glasses (only worn when he was doing paperwork, Harry knew) were slightly crooked, and he yawned as he scratched more notes in with his quill. His healer’s robe was tossed over the back of his chair, leaving him in his slightly rumpled white button up and his grey slacks. He looked like a dream and Harry just wanted to scoop him up and hold him, let Draco rest his weary body against him.
Shaking his head at himself, he knocked on the door frame and Draco startled, snapping his attention to Harry.
“Harry!” he exclaimed, tossing his glasses on top of the pile of papers as he stood and made his way over, hands already reaching out to heal, “what is it? Are you alright? Have you torn out one of the stitches on your side?” he asked, fingers tugging the hem of Harry’s jumper up as he asked, “I told you that you needed to be careful-”
“I don’t want you to be my healer,” Harry blurted.
“What?” Draco asked, his hands falling away from Harry, face pinched in hurt, “why?” he whispered, before a professional mask snapped into place and he stepped back. “You’re welcome to do as you see fit,” he said, voice cool. “Has my care been insufficient in some way, Mr. Potter?”
“Draco,” he said, realizing his mistake. “That’s not what I meant.”
“So you do want me to be your healer?” he asked in confusion.
He shook his head, “no but only because St. Mungos has rules about that.”
“About what?” he asked, drawing his wand and casting a spell that Harry knew well.
“I don’t have a concussion,” he said. “Just,” he huffed and grabbed Draco’s hands in his. “I like you. I want to take you out to dinner, I want to get to know you better. And I want to eventually kiss you and hopefully do other stuff with you,” he added, delighted by the flush covering Draco’s cheeks. “But I can’t do any of those things if you’re my healer, so I’d like a new healer, please.”
Draco blinked and him, “and if I turn you down?”
“Then I’d still like a new healer because I wouldn’t be able to look you in the eye. I’d rather let my injuries kill me in the field.”
He huffed a laugh. “Dramatic.”
“Are you turning me down?” Harry asked and he felt Draco’s hands squeeze his.
“Of course not, don’t be daft.”
The smile that split his face felt like it was almost too much, his whole chest was bursting with happiness. “What day would work for you?”
“Is today too soon?” he asked, glancing at his desk. “You’d have to wait a few minutes for me to finish my paperwork-”
“Today’s perfect,” he enthused. “I don’t mind waiting.” And today was the first day of many that Harry spent waiting for the other man, but Harry didn’t mind. He knew that some things were worth the wait.

Backing the Wrong Horse
Harry came home with a split lip, bloody nose, cut on his brow, blood on his knuckles, and what were probably the tell-tale of signs of oncoming bruises. He tried to duck into the bathroom to clean himself up without being noticed, but failed.
He knew exactly what Draco would say before he even said it. "Harry! What were you thinking?" He caught his boyfriend in the hallway, exiting the bathroom just as Harry was about to enter.
"You don't even know what happened," Harry protested.
Draco held Harry's chin carefully to turn his head so he could get a better look at the damage done. "Clearly you got into a fight of some sort. I'm not an idiot."
Harry let Draco examine him. "Yeah, but you don't know that I started it." He stepped past Draco into the bathroom.
"So you didn't start it?" Draco asked, grabbing a wash cloth from the linen closet before following Harry into the bathroom.
Harry turned on the tap and scrubbed at his knuckles instead of answering.
That was answer enough for his boyfriend. "Harry!" Draco scolded. He wet the rag with warm water from the bathtub faucet, not making Harry share the small sink. "Sit down," he said with a sigh when Harry finished washing his hands.
Harry sat on the edge of the bathtub with his knees spread open. Draco stood between his boyfriend's legs and dabbed at the blood on his face. "He had it coming," Harry mumbled.
Draco sighed again. "Harry, you can't keep fighting everyone who speaks poorly of the Malfoys. We were Death Eaters who housed the Dark Lord. We were on the wrong side of a war that hurt thousands of people." Draco referenced the great evilness of his family's past as he used a featherlight gentleness to doctor his partner's injuries; the irony was not lost on Harry.
"You had no choice. Lucius made those decisions for your family, and he's still paying for those sins. Besides, the person they should be blaming is Voldemort, not you."
Draco tossed the bloodied cloth into a hamper, seemingly satisfied with his work. Then he pulled out his wand to heal Harry's cuts. "It doesn't matter. You're defending the wrong people, Harry—hold still." Once the skin had healed on his eyebrow and lip, Draco reset Harry's nose.
Harry's eyes watered. He moved his jaw and scrunched his nose a couple times. "Thank you." He took Draco's hands and pulled him in close. "You were a child. It's been more than a decade. You're a good person. You've done more than enough to make up for any mistakes you made back then. Between your charity work and job as a Healer, you're practically a saint. I'll always defend you."
Draco rested his hands on Harry's shoulders, looking down at him fondly. "I am far from a saint. You need to stop getting in fights over me. You're going to get in trouble or get seriously hurt."
"I'll stop getting in fights when people stop being assholes."
Draco snorted and rolled his eyes affectionately. It brought Harry relief to know that he wasn't angry with him. "That's never going to happen."
"Once people realize that I'd do anything for you, they'll stop. I've just got to punch enough people to get my point across." Harry stood up and wrapped his arms around Draco's waist, kissing him once on the mouth.
Draco let out a small chuckle. "You're a brute and an idiot."
"But I'm your brute," Harry said with a cheeky grin.
"And my idiot." Draco ruffled a hand through Harry's messy curls before pulling him in for another kiss.

The Ordeal of Being Known by louisfake
Summary:
When Auror Potter is anonymously cursed with silence by being forced to hide his own voice inside his mind, there's unfortunately only one person in the country with the qualifications to fix it: Certified and Licensed Healer Legilimens, Draco Malfoy, specialist in Mind Curses and Afflictions. It's obviously a terrible idea, a disaster waiting to happen, but Draco's never been able to back down from a challenge... especially from Potter. Features fuzzy cartoon slippers, devious house elves, 90s music, and lots—LOTS—of memories. Ron is annoyingly hot, Hermione sees right through you, Harry is a powerful idiot, and Draco is a reclusive masochist that would buy an entire city if it would make a kid happy. (And Pansy is "5'2, I wanna dance with you, and I'm sophisticated fun.") Rating: Mature Word Count: 146,637 Link to Fic: https://archiveofourown.org/works/28864512/chapters/70806630
My Thoughts: A brilliant fic! It had the right amount of tension between Harry and Draco, making it hard to put down but not too much to be a stressful read. Much like the hot chocolate that often appeared in the story, The Ordeal of Being Known warmed my heart and soul.

Among Ancient Pines by @graymatters & art by @cambiodipolvere and @onlytheheartknows
Words: 73,981
Every day, Draco Malfoy tries. With every fiber of his being he tries. But he doesn’t much think about what he’s trying for.
In his final term of Healer training, Draco is unfortunate enough to find himself on a plane, the only means of traveling to a small, magical town in rural Alaska. Years of hard work have culminated in an opportunity to work with an experimental wandmaker to study the intersection of Healing and wand theory. When Draco arrives, he doesn't find the wandmaker, but does find his apprentice, who happens to have ridiculously messy hair, a lightning bolt scar, and a definitely-not-charming smile. But Draco isn’t going to let Harry Potter get in the way of him becoming a successful medical researcher, even if Potter is stubborn, hot-tempered, reckless, surprisingly gentle, has bizarre taste in music, and likes to leave his shirts unbuttoned. How hard could the next few months be?
A fic about challenging assumptions, discovering self-worth, the silver lining in failing to meet expectations, and finding friendship, love, and purpose in a small Alaskan town that’s steeped in magic.
Soooo pretty and allllll the vibes I'm looking for. Harry was written in such a good way, and I feel like I should move to Alaska. VERY well written OC's. Magic lore was insane in this fic. AND THE ART oh god the art

Heal Thyself by astolat on ao3
Healer Draco/Auror Harry
AMAZING. I loved it so much. It's a slow burn kind of fic and the first half is a lot of Draco just transitioning from shitty little brat to a half decent person. Also Harry being adorably stubborn af and the characters aren't written out of character yet it still friggin works and makes you grin like crazy. Go read it now.
My Personal Rant About Why It's Amazing That No One Asked For
In so many drarry fics you get authors turning Draco into some pathetic little do gooder or doing some half arsed job of turning him into said do gooder and therefore going completely out of the way he's presented in the books - a shitty little brat with a lot of potential.
Yet in this godsent fic you get to see the specific way Draco goes from a huge scared bigot into a genuinely likable person. Yet he's still the sarcastic little shit we see in the books - in other words this fic has the PERFECT redemption arc. Harry also isn't written completely out of character. He's still the stubborn, idiotic idiot we see in the first books and I love it. After so many terrible fics where Draco outright GIGGLES I thought I wouldn't ever have the luxury of seeing him in the redemption arc that I know a lot of the fans longed for but NO THANK THE HEAVENS here it is from astolat.
They have such great writing as well. The fic's filled with a lot of grandiose magical healer centered vocab but it's all written in such a way that I can understand despite only having read the HP books once and never paying attention to the actual magic.
This fic genuinely made me fall in love. It's so brilliantly written that I actually feel the need to review it so others will see how amazing this author is so GO READ IT NOW.
