The idea of leaving what I know for what will help me heal is paralyzing and filled with imagined repercussions. I was never a rebel child. Everything I did was carefully crafted to make as little fuss as possible, otherwise home became hell. Including standing up for myself. The Harry Potter quote, "'I'll be in my bedroom making no noise and pretending that I don't exist,'" was me. This was where it began. I have almost always based major, personal choices on what will make the smallest wave in my "family" or looked for external approval of such actions. But I grow every day, cultivating awareness, shaping strength. Slowly, surely, steadily. No one else will do this for you, dear heart. It has to be you. One of my teachers, Natalie, reminded me, "You have been brave through this already.
