Five times Ace and Nancy unite (and reunite) around the holidays, and one time they don't need to. Read on AO3

Another hour, another lap through the library—an unnecessary check given that he’d locked the door on his last round. This time he dares to creep closer, trying to see if he can get a look at what she’s working on. 

His tread creaks an old floorboard and her head snaps up, reentering reality. “Did the library close?”

Ace shrugs and looks around, like he doesn’t know how the building suddenly got that dark and empty, but the frown on Nancy’s face tells him he missed the mark. “About an hour ago, yeah.”

“Why didn’t you kick me out?” She looks bewildered now, the highlighter in her hand being clutched like a lifeline. Like she can’t believe he let her stay. 

Watching how the lamplight glints off her hair, making her shine despite the shadows beneath her eyes, he thinks he’d let her do just about anything. 

He shrugs again, trying to make it seem like no big deal. “You looked like you needed to stay. Some things just require the quiet of an empty library.”
