i need to read more of the gentleman bastards series bc locke is the most guy ever. he's an emotionally stunted theatre kid trapped in the body of a street urchin turned fantasy master thief. when his boss tries to set up an arranged marriage between locke and the boss's daughter both locke and his fiancee immediately team up to try and break it up. if you get him even tangentially started on the subject of love he'll start bemoaning how it isnt real because the love of his life LEFT him. he also wonders how the hell everyone knows the love of his life left him. he respects sex workers and asks them for advice occasionally. he won't rob you if you're gay.

yknow i have a lot of aus in my brain but the one currently spinning in my lobes is a stardust au. like. honestly it really works both ways like. i feel like thematically it's probably more appropriate for ted to be the star, changing trent's life forever, but my first thought was like. michelle asks ted to bring her a star, because he's always trying so hard to please her and she needs space and he will literally pluck a star from the sky if it means making her happy--only instead he finds a man where that star fell (he's beautiful, but ted tries not to notice) who's rather disgruntled with being on the ground, suddenly. and like. idk man i'd have to watch the movie again to really get into this au either way but i am just spinning it. slowly rotating it.

I'm half-convinced that Etta Mae's Lament and/or I'm the Bride of the Pirate King were at least partially inspired by Little Shop of Horrors and Audrey. Obviously Etta Mae's Lament was inspired by Oklahoma! as well but yeah. Etta Mae's Lament is about a self-loathing sex worker who wants nothing more than to be a housewife to a mediocre man and I'm the Bride of the Pirate King is about a girl with no self-confidence or self-preservation instincts who is with an extremely dangerous abuser and acting like the situation she's in is fine and does not require immediate intervention when it very clearly does (sound familiar?) They really remind me of Somewhere That's Green and The Worse He Treats Me respectively. Plus Valencia sings I'm the Bride of the Pirate King in a very high voice despite her not normally having a high voice. Actually now that I'm typing all of this out they were definitely both inspired by Little Shop of Horrors.
