a little party never killed nobody
it was the exact same as every other college party you’d ever been to. shitty music, shittier alcohol, shittiest people- except for him.
when ethan nestor had invited you to a frat party, you’d laughed in his face. you knew that he was a member of data data data, but he wasn’t the type that made it his whole personality. as far as you’d observed, he wasn’t the partying type, either, but there he was, texting you the house address.
“so you’ll come tonight? it’s going to be a pretty big thing- a lot of people coming. you should be able to walk right in, but if anyone gives you shit just tell them you’re with me,” he said, a slight smirk playing on his lips. you and ethan hadn’t been talking for long; technically, you hadn’t even known that he’d existed two weeks ago.
when ethan had first sauntered up to you in physical sciences, that same smirk painting his face, you’d picked up on the underlying chemistry right away. he was a flirt by nature, but he seemed to play it up even more around you- the brunette boy had asked for your number the first day you met, and you’d been talking almost constantly since. he was funny and sweet and extremely charismatic, and he made your heart flip in your chest with the smallest glance. the two of you hadn’t hung out alone yet, so this party felt like a big deal.
or, at least, that's what you’d thought.
when you showed up at the front door of the frat house loud, bass-filled music was already shaking the window panes in their frames, and you could hear what sounded like a hundred different voices all talking over each other. ethan hadn’t been kidding when he said that it was a big party; at least half of your year was here, plus the older and younger students interspersed throughout the throngs of people as well. as you made your way to the kitchen, ethan was nowhere to be found. you felt as if all eyes were on you as you started to pour a drink, and dimly, you wondered if people could tell that you didn’t belong.
however, most of your anxious thoughts had been subdued after the first solo cup of vodka lemonade, and you were now well through your second. the music pounding throughout the house felt as if it had infiltrated your veins, filling them with a warm, buzzing sensation that loosened your limbs. at some point, a guy had come up to chat with you. then another. you weren't sure how many times you’d given out your snapchat tonight, but it had been a lot, and you were about to do it again.
the guy you were currently talking to introduced himself as danny. he was some sort of business major, much like every other guy that you’d spoken with tonight, and was very clearly trying to hit on you. even through the alcohol-induced haze, you remembered who you came here for and you weren't leaving without him. you put a hand on danny’s shoulder, effectively cutting him off in the middle of his sentence.
“hey, do you know where ethan is? ethan nestor, i mean? he’s the one who invited me here.”
danny looked disappointed, but seemed to shift and slot puzzle pieces together in his head, snapping his fingers. “you're the girl he invited? that makes so much sense, actually. yeah, he’s out back- toking up, probably,” he explained, gesturing towards a door you would’ve never noticed. “out there and down the stairs. need an escort?”
you almost denied his advances but spotted an old fling loitering by the hidden door. giving danny a tight smile, you drained the rest of your drink and held up a finger. “one sec! stay here.”
butterflies flooded every inch of your being as you stumbled over to the makeshift bar, pouting a variety of liquors into your cup. you were going to see ethan outside of class. on his turf. something about it shook you to your core, but you couldn’t quite figure out why.
sure, ethan was hot- that was obvious. but he’d been flirty, too. were the two of you a thing? if you weren’t, why had he been talking to danny about 'the girl he was inviting’? clearly, ethan had been talking about you, you just weren't sure of the context. you tried to swallow all these fears as you topped off your cup with lemonade, taking a small sip. trying not to spit it out, you added more juice; you’d made the strongest mixture you could think of, and it tasted like some sort of poison. that didn’t stop you from taking another small sip, then a bigger one. you needed the buzz.
“okay! let's go.”
danny led you out the door and down the stairs with no issue, and you quickly realized how tipsy you were - the stairs seemed to bob and warp under your feet, and you grabbed onto the handrail with a death grip. he noticed this easily, laughing a bit. “are you good?”
“great. it's the heels and alcohol- they don't mix well.” you laughed at yourself, regretting the chunky, heeled boots you’d thrown on.
“you can ditch them, if you want. we’re going out onto a deck, so you won't be in grass or anything,” danny explained, pointing to a pile of shoes by the door you were about to exit. you weren't going to argue with that, thankful that you’d chosen cute socks as you wrestled the footwear off and tossed it onto the pile. your stomach flipped as danny opened the door, cool night air biting into your warm skin, waking you up a bit. the sourish-sweet scent of marijuana flooded the small stairwell, and danny chuckled. “told you he was smoking.”
nothing could’ve prepared you for the way you felt watching ethan take a long drag off of some sort of pen, letting the vapor pour from his lips in pale blue plumes. something about the easy way the smoke seemed to float from his mouth went straight to your center, and you dug your nails into your palms, trying to get yourself under control. ethan finally realized that more people had joined the small crowd on the bench, and his heavy-lidded eyes seemed to light up as they roamed all over you lazily. this only furthered the sensation between your legs, the coils starting to tighten in your lower stomach.
what the hell?
“y/n, you made it,” ethan said, a smile taking over his face. he quickly hopped down from where he’d been sitting on the guardrail and made his way over, wrapping an arm dangerously low around your waist. he hugged you tightly, making your heartbeat stutter as you squeezed him back.
you mumbled a ‘hello’ into his neck as ethan let his touch linger, your body held tightly to his. someone cleared their throat, conversation starting back up, and ethan reluctantly pulled away, dropping his eyes to yours. he kept a hand on the small of your back, sending electricity running up and down your spine. “having fun?”
you could barely talk as you forced yourself to respond. “yeah, lots. you’re a hard person to find.”
ethan grinned again, letting his head fall back as he laughed. “my bad. i thought you would text me when you got here. found someone to take care of you , though?” he asked, cocking an eyebrow. the facial expression did absolutely nothing for the situation building up under your skirt- only worsening your want for the tall boy in front of you.
“who?”
ethan smirked, dropping his lips to your ear. “that's what i like to hear. you look pretty, y/n.”
the way he said your name practically undid you, ripping your self-control apart at the already weakened seams. you let a hand wander up and down one of ethan’s sculpted arms, outlining the planes of muscle through his hoodie as you crossed your legs; sure, it was the ladylike thing to do, but you were desperately looking for some sort of friction, anything to lessen the need for him.
“thank you.”
ethan nodded, the hand that had been perched on your back sliding over your hip before finding your hand. he laced his fingers into yours, and you were shocked at how forward he was being. the two of you had flirted heavily- and okay, maybe you’d sent some suggestive pictures back and forth- but ethan seemed to be claiming you as he led you over to the round table where all his friends were sat. again, you carved half-moons into your palms with your nails as you added up all the chairs- there wasn’t enough. you began to let go of ethan’s hand, ready to boost yourself onto the railing, but he gave your fingers a gentle squeeze. you watched as ethan settled into the overstuffed outdoor chair, gesturing at his lap.
fuck.
you took a brief moment to admire the mess you’d gotten yourself into before you gingerly sat on ethan’s lap, trying to make yourself as small and weightless as humanly possible. that didn’t last long, though. ethan circled an arm over your hips, pulling you onto his lap firmly. you couldn’t breathe as you settled into him, crossing your legs tightly. your lower body was tucked away, hidden under the table, but still. you tucked a small portion of fabric between your thighs, ensuring nothing would slip.
you didn’t say much as ethan continued to conversate with his friends, passing the silvery, skinny device around the table.
soon, the talk turned from school and classes to typical, stuttering stoner laughing; everyone besides ethan and danny seemed to be a complete lightweight, gone after one hit of the cartridge. however, both the boys were on at least their fourth hit and still seemed relatively composed. they’d started to talk about some sort of economic study, and you’d quickly grown bored and confused. after sitting through 10 more minutes of the terminology you didn't understand, you began to wiggle around on ethan’s lap, loosening his grip on you.
at the same moment, you and ethan both shifted in just the right way, causing one of his legs to end up between both of yours just as your hips rolled forward. delicious friction flooded your system, and you bit down hard on your lower lip, trying to stifle a moan. you fought with everything in you not to rock your body again, sensation overwhelming your impulse control. before you could do anything, one of ethan’s large hands found your hips, squeezing just enough to leave fingerprint-shaped marks on your skin. ethan knew what he’d done- you could hear the satisfaction threaded through his voice.
“you okay? what d’you need?”
you tried to steady your voice, painfully conscious of the people around you. while most of ethan’s friends were high enough that they wouldn’t notice, you knew that danny would pick up on any changes in your demeanor. you swallowed hard before answering him.
“i'm gonna go get another drink.” another gentle squeeze practically lit your skin on fire, and ethan held the pen up to you.
“wanna try this instead?”
you weren’t going to lie- you’d been a bit jealous of the boys, not even thinking of passing the device to you. with shaky hands, you reached to accept the cartridge, but ethan had different plans. a sinful look found its way into his slitted eyes as ethan held the pen up to your lips. “go ahead.”
you could’ve passed out from the command, the look, the way that he’d started to bounce his leg. it was as if he was trying to break you- like he wanted you to give him some sort of sign that you wanted him. you did, more than anything. desire seemed to curl its way into every inch, every cell of your body, its spurs digging into your skin.
you met ethan’s eyes deliberately as you accepted the cold metal into your mouth, inhaling deeply. you took immense pleasure in the look that crossed ethans face as you pulled away with lungs full of the hazy drug. you held your breath for as long as possible before letting the vapor drift from your lips, just as ethan and done earlier. you watched his adam's apple bob as he swallowed hard, his eyes snapping off of yours and over to danny.
“i’m gonna take y/n to get a drink. watch them, will you?” he asked, gesturing to the rest of his friends. danny just nodded, mumbling a low ‘have fun’ as ethan practically lifted you off of his lap. adrenaline coursed through each and every one of your veins and ethan laced his fingers through yours, leading you inside.
ethan barely let the door shut before his hands were on your hips, pinning you to the wall of the small stairwell. his lips met yours roughly, and you couldn’t hold back the whimper that had been building in your throat for the past hour. you felt ethan smirk at the soft noise before he bit at your lower lip, dragging the soft flesh between his teeth. again, you let out a whine full of pleasure- he just felt so good. you let your arms circle ethans neck, one of your hands knotting in his dark hair. you pulled at the roots gently as ethan’s tongue rolled against yours, your body entirely succumbing to him.
he forced himself to pull off of your body, and you let out a small whine; you’d been waiting on this. ethan smirked, his laugh coming out dark and much raspier than usual. “don’t worry doll, i'm not done with you yet. just can't have you here.”
the words went right through you, only adding to the ache between your thighs. ethan took your hand with a profound gentleness, and dropped a soft kiss on your forehead. “before this even starts, are you sure?”
you nodded eagerly, getting up on your tiptoes to recapture his lips, but ethan pulled back. you furrowed your eyebrows at the tall boy, confused- until he brought a hand up to your face, holding your jaw. ethan tilted your head up, forcing you to meet his eyes. “i need words, baby. are you positive? i can-”
“so sure. i promise.” you nodded at him, your eyes never leaving his. “i want you.”
ethan swore under his breath and kissed you hard before leading you up the stairs. you started to feel the effects of the drug as ethan took you from kitchen to living room, up some stairs… you lost track of all the places you’d been, allowing the weed to cloud everything in a gauzy veil. you felt good; light and somehow heavy at the same time, and you enjoyed the way that everything seemed to slow down. finally, ethan opened a door and pulled you in behind him. you realised where you were- his room. it smelled like ethan, like citrus and musk and something you could only describe as boy.
you let out a small giggle as ethan reached for a remote, colored lights dousing the room in a sultry red glow. “setting the mood?”
quickly, you were shut up in the best possible way. ethan kissed your roughly, all teeth and tongue and hands everywhere as he backed you against one of his walls. you let yourself get lost in him, basking in the warmth of your hunger for him. one of ethan’s cold hands made its way under your shirt, the other holding your jaw in place as he bit into your bottom lip once again, making you whine.
“feel good?” ethan asked, breathlessly. you could hear the smirk in his voice, but you couldn’t help the way your back arched at the simple question. your nails dug into his shoulder as ethan slid his thumb under the band of your bra, and he let out a rough moan, managing to undo the clasp with one hand. ethan pulled away from you long enough to rid you of your shirt, discarding your bra on the floor as well while you practically ripped his hoodie off, desperate to feel his skin against your own. he clearly wanted the same, judging by the way he wrapped an arm around your back, pulling you flesh against his chest.
ethan managed to capture both of your wrists in one of his hands, pinning them above your head. you were unfamiliar with the feeling of being restrained, but the sensation seemed to send your heart thrumming even faster. he kissed you until your lips were sore and your knees were weak before finally dropping his forehead to yours. ethan took his chance, letting his eyes roam all over you and you watched his pupils grow larger until his eyes were practically black. “jesus fuck, y/n. you’re beautiful.”
your voice came out high and breathy as you responded. “ ‘could say the same about you.” you were practically panting, your body no longer responding to your mind as your back arched. ethan let out a hard breath.
“do you know what you do to me?”
your eyes fluttered shut as ethan’s lips met the sensitive skin of your neck, his tongue exploring the delicate flesh. he quickly found your weak spot and focused his attention there; he let his teeth gently sink into your skin, making you gasp before using his soft tongue to soothe the spot. he repeated this process all over your neck, sucking on your flesh when he found a sweet spot. you knew that you’d be covered in purple-blue bruises, but you’d wear them proudly- that was ethan’s motivation for marking you up.
ethan trailed soft, wet kisses all the way down your neck to your collarbones, groaning at the way you pushed your chest toward him. he hesitated, but started kissing back up your neck, your jaw, back up to your lips. he released his grip on your wrist and you quickly cupped his face in your hands, kissing him with everything in you. you wanted the boy to feel the way you wanted him, and you knew he could as his lips seemed to slow, the kisses getting deeper and deeper. you lost yourself completely in ethan, unsure of where he started and you ended. you could feel his heartbeat against your own, the two thumping rapidly, almost erratic.
the two of you stayed pressed up against each other, your back firmly against the wall for a while, until ethan finally pressed a soft kiss to your cheek. “bed?”
you nodded eagerly, wanting the boy all over you. the two of you stumbled, half kissing over to the mattress, falling together. ethan quickly situated himself on top of your body, caging you in between his arms. he began kissing down your body at a torturously slow pace, tracing the dark marks he’d already left with his soft tongue, driving you insane. ethan took his time working down to your breasts, finally taking one of your sensitive nubs into his mouth. you let out an almost guttural moan at the sensation, pleasure overwhelming your senses. ethan hummed at your reaction, only intensifying the feeling. you tangled a hand in his hair, the other digging into his back, leaving long, red scratches on his pale skin.
ethan swirled his tongue around your bud, taking extreme pride in the way you let your head fall back against the mattress, moans of his name spilling from your lips. he tucked an arm under the arch of your back, pulling your body even closer to him- he didn’t want any space dividing the two of you. ethan pulled off of your puffy nipple with a soft moan, wasting no time in kissing over your chest, pulling the other into his mouth. he covered your chest in dark, deep bruises, admiring his work under the sensual glow of the red lights. “so pretty..”
you couldn’t form full sentences to respond with, just broken moans and pleads and tugs on his hair. ethan found it endearing, the way you wanted him so badly. he couldn’t help but give you what you needed.
he kisses hastily down your body leaving small lovebites here and there on your ribs, your stomach. ethan hooked his thumbs in the waistband of your skirt and pressed a kiss to the exposed skin right above the fabric. “this okay?”
“yes, i- please,” you pleaded, lifting your hips to make it easier. ethan got rid of the piece of clothing, discarding it on his bedroom floor, quickly followed by your panties. he let out a throaty moan, his eyes working over you lazily, like he had all the time in the world. he admired your body until you wriggled underneath him, needing some sort of stimulation.
“what do you want, baby?”
“you,” you whined, desperation weaving through your voice. ethan pressed gentle, warm kisses on your hip bones, fighting a laugh.
“i know that. what specifically?”
“fuck, ethan. anything, just touch me. please.”
“okay, okay. and you're positive this is alright?”
“yes. i’m so sure. i swe-” your words died in the back of your throat as ethan pressed his thumb to your clit, rubbing small, soft circles. “holy fuck.”
“already so worked up,” ethan mumbled, pressing kisses to your inner thighs. “this because of me?”
you were taken aback by the way your high seemed to multiply the pleasure by tens of thousands- ethan was barely touching you and you could feel your high approaching quickly. you couldn’t find the words to answer him as ethan shifted between your legs, giving himself a better view of your sex. “does that feel okay?”
a stream of swears left your lips as ethan quickened his pace, hooking one of your legs over his shoulder. “so fucking good, just like that.” the knots in your stomach continued to tighten as you balled the sheets in your fist, tugging at his hair with the other hand.
ethan pressed a kiss dangerously low on your hip, looking up at you. “can i?”
your hips bucked at the tone of his voice, and you nodded vigorously. ethan kept his eyes on yours as he ran his tongue through your folds, lapping your arousal up. he couldn’t help but groan at the taste of you, the way you pulled at his hair, putting his mouth where you wanted it before letting your head fall back onto his bed. ethan started to suck at your sensitive bud, rolling his tongue over the bundle of nerves and you knew you wouldn’t last much longer.
“i- fuck- i’m close.”
he hummed, the vibrations sending you over the edge. your eyes rolled back into your head while you tugged at his hair, your orgasm completely undoing you- the high only added to the sensation, making it that much better. your hips bucked under the skillful work of his soft tongue as ethan let you ride out your high on his face.
ethan dropped a gentle kiss on your clit before peppering your entire body with them, giggling at the way you squealed. he finally attached his lips to your neck, your jaw, back to your lips. you kissed him hard, tasting yourself off of him. finally, when your exhaustion won out you pulled away, running your hands through ethan’s fluffy hair.
“how was that?”
you propped yourself up on your elbows, pecking ethan’s lips. “so, so good,” you mewled between heavy breaths. ethan bit down on his lower lip and smiled, pride filling his system.
“god, you look good moaning my name. you're beautiful, you know,” he said, tucking a strand of hair behind your ear. ethan looked at you with a tenderness in his eyes, placing another kiss on your lips. “think you can go again?”
ethan started trailing down your body again, not waiting for an answer. he was laser focused on pleasuring you, making you whine and whimper for him- only for him. before he could get far, though, you were grabbing at his arm and shaking your head. he flushed, peeling away from you while starting to profusely apologize, but you pressed a finger to his lips.
“want you. inside of me,” you explained between pants, still exhausted from the first round of stimulation. ethan threw his head back, swearing.
“jesus christ, y/n. need me that bad, baby?”
his choice of words drowned you in desire, and you were all his. “yes. please, ethan?”
he wanted to fuck you until all you could do was moan his name just like that, over and over again. before you could process what was happening ethan had his hands all over you, roaming your body as he practically drooled at the sight before him: your already fucked out body, the sweet look painting your face, begging for him. ethan could barely control himself, his words coming out as rough murmurs.
“protection? i mean, i have it.”
you bit at your lip, hard. you were on birth control, and you wanted him- all of him.
shaking your head, you explained. “birth control. we’ll be fine, if you’re comfortable.”
you jumped as ethan moved a finger to your entrance, dipping into your sex. he groaned at the way you clenched around the appendage, his cock jumping in his boxers. “want my cum inside you?”
“yes- fuck, ethan, please,” you begged, reduced to nothing. all you wanted; all you needed was him inside you, ruining your body until you couldn’t take anymore pleasure.
“so tight,” he mumbled, lining another finger up. you bucked your hips, the sensitivity almost too much as he stretched you out, watching the way your face contorted under his influence. ethan placed a large hand low on your abdomen, applying light pressure. “if you can’t take this, you won’t be able to take me.”
you nodded, pace almost desperate for him to continue. “feels good baby. so good.”
you took note of the pleased expression that stretched over ethan’s face as you praised the boy- you were just telling the truth, but clearly he liked to hear what a good job he was doing. ethan brought his thumb up to your clit, rubbing tight circles on the bundle of nerves and you grabbed at his wrist, nails digging into skin.
“gonna make me cum again,” you warned, but ethan only smiled at you, nodding almost condescendingly.
“wanna finish on my fingers, pretty girl?”
you wanted to say no, wait to come undone around him, but his movements felt too good. you dug your nails into his arm even harder, your other hand clawing into ethan’s soft sheets as the knots in your stomach came undone, your walls contracting around his fingers tight enough to make him moan.
ethan let his pace slow, extending your orgasm as you practically rode his hand, crying out in absolute euphoria as he increased pressure on your clit.  unable to form words, you released your grasp on the boy’s arm, bringing your hand up to his face instead. you pulled ethan’s lips down to meet yours, whining at the feeling of his clothed cock grinding against your center.
ethan couldn’t take it anymore, quickly ridding himself of the soft sweatpants. you watched as his manhood sprung up, hitting his abdomen; the sight in and of itself enough to make you let out another bliss-filled noise. ethan let his eyes fall to yours as he stroked himself, shuddering at the heavenly friction. again, his voice came out low as he lined himself up with you.
“sure?”
far beyond words, you nodded and laced your fingers through his.
ethan returned your grasp with a sweet squeeze, gliding the tip of his cock through your folds- coating himself in your arousal. the two of you moaned in sync; a sweet, satisfied sort of harmony. finally, ethan pushed into you slowly, gasping at the feeling. you couldn’t help the way your eyes rolled back into your head, the feeling of him inside you almost too much.
“you okay?”
“so good,” you breathed, trying not to yelp at the feeling spreading through your lower body. ethan was well endowed- the biggest you’d ever taken- and it was an addictive sort of pain. he moved slowly, stopping a few times; allowing you to adjust around his length. when he’d bottomed out, ethan let his head fall back, groans escaping his throat.
“so fucking tiny,” he gasped, a groan cutting his statement off. “feel so good around me, gorgeous.”
you nodded at him, trying your best to meet ethan’s eyes as you praised the boy. “so fucking big- you feel so good,” you whined, your hips bucking. “want you so bad.”
a breathless laugh escaped ethan’s lungs as he maneuvered a hand behind one of your thighs, lifting your leg to hook over his shoulder. he pushed even deeper into you and black spots began to crowd the sides of your vision, the pleasure overwhelming. slowly, ethan started to pull out of you, eliciting filthy words and moans from you before he slid his length back in.
“fucking hell, y/n. so tight,” he said, voice tipping up into a whimper at the end. he quickened his pace, the noise of sleeping skin filling the room. you could barely contain yourself, no longer fighting the stream of murmurs and swears leaving your lips as ethan continued to pump in and out of you. your next orgasm was already building, the coils tightening rapidly in your lower belly.
ethan let his hand wander down to your sensitive bud, almost coming undone at the sight of your eyes fluttering shut. you traced up his forearm, scraping at his sweet skin before knotting your fingers in his hair, tugging at the roots.
“eyes open, baby. look at me.”
you could’ve cum then and there, the instructions only turning you on further. you forced your eyes open, meeting his as ethan sped up again. an almost animalistic noise left your throat as ethan thrusted into you roughly- you weren’t going to be able to hang on much longer. ethan felt the way your walls were clenching around him, fluttering and tightening as he increased his speed on your clit.
“close?” he asked, unable to say much more than that. your grip around him was euphoric- he was closer than he’d like to be. it hadn’t been more than 20 minutes, but with the way you were pulling at his head, almost crying in completely bliss, ethan wanted to fill you to the brim with his cum then fuck it into your sensitive pussy, overstimulating the sweet flesh.
you nodded, humming a small “mhm,” as you looked at him with wide eyes. ethan paused for a moment, shifting your leg up even higher onto his shoulder before plunging back into you. you felt the head of his cock hit a new, even more delicious spot and you became almost delirious. looking at him with furrowed eyebrows, you felt a tear crawl down your cheek.
“gonna cum, ethan-”
“fuck- me too. let go, baby.”
your entire body seemed to shake and shudder under the force of your orgasm- it hit you like a fucking train. you felt ethan’s thrusts get sloppier as he buried himself inside you, his head dropping to the crook of your neck. he whimpered as he shot his cum deep into your pussy, the sensation all consuming. the two of you stayed like that for a while- riding out your highs with each other, rough moans turned to honey-sweet mewls.
as your heart rate started to come down, you peppered the boy's face with soft, careless kisses: ones that he gladly returned. ethan finally found your lips, pressing tender, long kisses to the swollen skin.
“you’re a fucking god,” you murmured, stressing the word as ethan’s face flushed even hotter than it already had been.
“that,” he huffed, breathing still hard and uneven, “would be you.”
you giggled at the statement, your voice hitching as ethan slowly pulled out of you. you could feel a mixture of him and you spill out, the substance flowing over your things as ethan kissed down your body, taking in the sight between your legs.
“so pretty, baby,” he whispered, sinking a long finger into your pussy. your whole body spasmed at the feeling, completely overstimulated. ethan pulled out of you softly, watching the way his cum seemed to spill out of you endlessly. he placed small, delicate kisses to the marks he’d left covering your thighs, admiring his work. “can i keep you here for the night?” he asked, eyes turning affectionate.
you nodded at the boy as he came back up to meet your lips, then your forehead. as you settled onto his chest, drawing lazy patterns on his skin, ethan's voice seemed to return to normal.
“such a good girl.”

Kiro’s Mind’s Quest: Infatuation Play Translation Part 2 [CN]
Tumblr media
Hey! Here’s Part 2 of Infatuation Play. Here is Part 1 if you haven’t read it yet.
Enjoy~ 💛
*Spoilers for future content below!*
[Chapter 4]
MC: It seems I’ve put too much salt in the seasoning….
MC: If it’s salty…. add more water!
Tumblr media
Kiro: Haha.
Kiro was amused by what I said, and he shook off a piece of beef and tasted it.
Kiro: Good to eat!
Kiro also gave me a piece, the evening light leaked in from the window, reflecting a small layer of fluff on his face.
In the steam, the spicy and delicious smell seemed to dispel the previously unremarkable smell in the house.
I took a sip of soda and brought up the topic from before. *Changed some wording*
MC: By the way, in addition to encountering the big challenge of an actor’s career, filming NG….
MC: Is there anything else that left an impression on you?
Kiro looked down and thought about it seriously.
Tumblr media
Kiro: Does scaring a crying kid count?
MC: Of course!
Kiro smiled when he saw the eagerness on my face to hear the story.
Kiro: This scene is also related to entering the character state.
Kiro: In order to maintain this state, I kept myself bored in the hotel room for a long time….
Kiro: Probably because of my routine, no one reminded me.
Kiro: Later, I didn’t know the exact time anymore. When I came out, I felt that I had been in the dark for a long time.
Kiro: I realized that I was a bit too immersed, so I went to buy a bottle of soda to take a break.
Tumblr media
Kiro: Then I met a kid in the crew…. I didn’t do anything, he just saw me and then cried.
Kiro’s voice was very low, and the hot pot gurgled.
I think of Kiro’s immersive performance on the screen, and then I dig a little deeper into what he said just now-- *Changed some wording*
It was as if he had a bitter fruit in his heart, and he desperately wanted to hide it from me. The more bitter it was, the stronger the taste.
In the end, the fruit still found its way into my heart.
I sniffed and couldn’t help joking.
MC: From another perspective, that kid got to watch a scene for free.
Kiro raised his eyes, and I continued with a smile.
MC: I want to watch the exclusive performance of the big star Kiro too!
MC: Thinking about it this way, I feel a little jealous.
I took his hand and his fingertips quivered slightly.
Tumblr media
Kiro: Don’t you think I’m not doing well enough? As a professional actor, I shouldn’t be in this situation.
I shook my head.
MC: Remember, you asked me before if there was anything interesting about this business trip.
MC: In fact, in the city where I was on business, there would be lively gatherings at night on the street next to the hotel.
MC: Looking down from the balcony, there are clusters of lights, and everyone sits on the steps and chats casually.
MC: When I saw it, I was thinking, “I must bring Kiro here next time. He will love the sparkling cider here.”
I looked at Kiro brightly. He seemed to be imagining the scene I described with slight waves in his eyes.
MC: I want to share with you all the good and bad, brilliant and lonely times.
Tumblr media
MC: You can be imperfect, you can have lonely and dark moments because I will be with you.
MC: We share each other’s lives. No matter what life it is, as long as we experience it together, it is enough.
Those blue eyes staring at me seemed to be lit by some kind of warm light for a moment, filled with soft emotions.
I paused and asked him softly.
MC: I remember that every time you acted in a play, you would bid farewell to them at the end.
MC: You said that you were lucky to participate in a period of their lives and experienced their emotions.
MC: So in the end, you have to bid farewell to the partners you have been working with….
MC: Looking forward to another time and space, they will continue their lives.
MC: Did you say goodbye this time?
Kiro looked at me and suddenly reached out and wiped the oil stains on my lips.
The boiling of the hot pot sounded and there seemed to be some fragments of emotions in his eyes that had melted silently.
He paused, turned his head and raised the bear cup on the table. He raised it in the air, the emotions in his eyes were clear and calm.
Tumblr media
Kiro: Americano is still too bitter, I prefer to drink soda.
Kiro: The hot pot made by Miss Chips is delicious. As long as you are with her, even the little things like walking your dog to the supermarket are worth remembering.
His gaze flickered over the neatly coded script on the sofa, and there was a sense of relief in his voice.
Kiro: What you didn’t find, I did.
Kiro: In the time and space I don’t know, you will definitely find what you want, and come back to shine on the stage again.
Kiro: Now, it’s time to say goodbye to you.
The starry sky is gentle, and the steam from the hot pot rises, almost like a response. The wind blows the curtains and the room is full of starlight. *Changed some wording*
We are both covered.
(Cut to the living room)
MC: What’s going on with Cello lately? She seems to be more irritable.
MC: Not only did she knock over the sunflower vase in the living room, but also bit her tail….
I pet Cello who was being held in Kiro’s arms and spoke tentatively.
It is said that the mood of pets will be influenced by the owner. Is Cello….?
Tumblr media
Kiro looked away with a guilty conscience.
Kiro: Maybe it’s because the season makes everyone more irritable.
Kiro: [coughs] Just leave her be, save the sunflower first.
He found a new vase in the cabinet and handed it to me. I trimmed the sunflower’s branched and leaves that had been bitten by Cello.
Kiro sat cross-legged across from me and stared at me without blinking. I was a little embarrassed to be stared at.
MC: What are you looking at?
Kiro tilted his head at me and his blond hair swayed slightly. It was obviously a naughty action, but the smile in his eyes was very gentle.
Tumblr media
Kiro: Of course I was looking at Miss Chips.
Kiro: Looking at your actions, expressions, the flower in your hand, and….
Kiro’s tone was stretched out and I followed his gaze to see the light-coloured hairband on the side of my head.
The soft end of the hairband slid down my neck and onto my skin.
Tumblr media
MC: KI-RO!
I blushed for a moment and when I was hurriedly trying to retie my hairband, my hand was suddenly grabbed.
I looked up and under the frivolity of the sun, I didn’t know when Kiro got so close to me that I could see the creases on his lips.
His gaze fell on the end of my hair. He tucked the hairband lightly and winked at me.
Kiro: Miss Chips, let me help you.
Without waiting for my answer, he took a strand of my hair and maneuvered his hands dexterously, rubbing my earlobes with his fingertips which caused a burst of scorching heat.
The hairband is like a streamer that can be held in his hand, and he is the creator of beauty.
The mood is changing silently at this moment as we stay so close. *Changed some wording*
No matter how difficult the moments we encounter are, they will definitely be healed in the accompanying time.
After a while, Kiro held my face and looked at it with satisfaction.
Kiro: That’s it.
I reached up to touch the hairband and couldn’t help but smile. *Changed some wording*
MC: You even tied a small bow!
Kiro: Of course, this is the exclusive mark of Kiro.
Kiro picked up the end of the hairband and looked down at me tenderly. His blue eyes were like a vast and boundless sea and I willingly indulged in it.
(Cut to morning)
The morning light was in the room and the sound of the phone vibrating awakened me from my sleep. I picked up the phone and pressed the answer button.
MC: Kiki? What’s wrong?
Kiki: Boss, the project you flew abroad to talk about has passed!
Kiki: Anna received the letter of intent last night, and the person in charge there said that he hoped the date of the contract signing could be confirmed today.
Kiki: Where are you now? Come and visit the company!
MC: Okay, I’ll be there.
I hung up and turned my head, Kiro’s sleeping face came into view.
He seems to be having a good sleep and his lips are slightly upturned, he looks particularly meek. *Changed some wording*
MC: ….
It looks like he is still a little sick. *Changed some wording*
The lack of sleep made my brain work a little slow, so I shook my head in an attempt to wake myself up a bit.
Just as I was hesitating whether to go, Kiro woke up with a hint of sleepiness in his eyes. He was startled when he saw my neatly dressed look.
Tumblr media
Kiro: [cute sleepy voice] Is something happening at the company?
(If you pick “No”)
Seeing Kiro’s still pale cheeks, I shook my head and smiled at him.
MC: Nothing, I was just talking to Kiki.
But Kiro looked at me and suddenly smiled.
Kiro: Miss Chips, you should go do more important things first.
Kiro: I will wait here for you to come back.
Seeing him look at me quietly, I nodded gently.
(If you pick “yes”)
I was conflicted for a moment and then nodded honestly.
MC: There is a little situation that needs to be dealt with, but….
Before I finished speaking, I saw Kiro stretch out lazily with a slight smile in his tone.
Kiro: I will wait for your return.
He looked no different from what I was familiar with. I hesitated for a moment and finally nodded gently.
[Memory Silhouette]
MC: Hahahahahaha! This episode is so funny!
I laughed so much that my cheeks hurt and I had to lean against Kiro’s arms. He opened his arms and caged me in them.
Tumblr media
Kiro: Is the way I eat mustard so funny?
I lifted my head and looked at him as he asked me.
The sun was shining on us warmly through the French windows, Kiro’s milk fragrance also wrapped around the tip of my nose. I couldn’t help but squeeze his cheek with my hand.
MC: No, but I like it.
MC: Didn’t someone say that if there is a person who can keep you smiling, then he must be an important presence in your life.
MC: You make me laugh without even thinking about it, your existence turns cloudy days into sunny ones. *Changed some wording*
As if he had accepted my theory, Kiro no longer struggled with his expression about the variety show, so he clicked the button to continue playing.
Tumblr media
Kiro: Okay, I agree with Miss Chips.
This variety show has Kiro as a guest appearance. When he participated in the show, he had not yet joined the cast to make a movie. The show was as bright as a little sun.
In the space between the advertisements, I quickly glanced sideways at the person next to me.
Over the past few days, I can feel his gradual relaxation.
It’s not that I’m always vigilant, telling myself that I have to be happy in front of him, but because when I’m with him, I can relax and smile.
I liked this relaxed and soft Kiro.
MC: But speaking of it, in this variety show, I see you in a way that I don’t usually see.
MC: Planting seedlings, bargaining with the owner of a small shop, and making mosquitos nests by yourself.
MC: So Kiro turned out to be a secret master of life?
MC: So when I was making homemade cranberry cupcakes, a certain superstar asked me to teach him how to beat the egg yolks?
After being questioned, Kiro gave a cheeky “um”.
Tumblr media
Kiro: That’s because, in the cast, I need to play the image of SuperHero. This is my job.
Kiro: But in front of Miss Chips, I can be willful and not so perfect, can’t I? *Changed some wording*
He looked at me with a smile in his eyes, like an afternoon orange soda full of refreshing taste.
MC: You said that…. I can’t refute it.
Although I said that, I couldn’t help but laugh.
MC: But two people mixing the egg yolk batter together is always more interesting than doing it alone.
There was constant laughter on screen. I looked at Kiro who was always smiling on the screen and couldn’t help but lean into his arms.
His chin rested on my shoulder from behind and his warm breath brushed my neck.
It’s always a good time to need each other and be together. *Changed some wording*
MC: Next time, teach me how to make a mosquito net.
MC: Maybe in the future when we go on a trip, it will be useful.
Tumblr media
Kiro: Okay, let’s make a big and beautiful mosquito net.
MC: Huh? Why does it have to be so big?
Kiro: It can be used as an open-air tent. If you watch the stars at night, you don’t have to worry about being bitten by bugs.
I couldn’t help being amused by Kiro’s serious tone.
MC: Okay, let’s do it together.
Time is moving slowly and quietly, walking forward with a lazy pace. The lazy rest is close to the not-so-perfect Kiro.
Put together a cupcake with a honey-flavoured centre. *Changed some wording*
[Chapter 5]
When I had walked halfway towards the company, I decided to pull out my phone and call Kiki.
MC: Kiki, there are some things on my end that I can’t get away from. You can help me with the people from the other company and change the meeting to a virtual one.
MC: The contract has been sorted out, I will send it to them later. You are responsible for monitoring the online meeting.
Kiki: Mhhm, okay. Sounds good, boss.
After temporarily solving the company’s problems, I returned to Kiro’s house.
In order to avoid disturbing Kiro, who might still be asleep, I opened the door very quietly.
But when I entered through the door, I saw Kiro sitting cross-legged on the floor with his back facing me.
Tumblr media
Kiro: Cello, don’t move.
A cat’s tail came out from his side, swinging back and forth uncomfortably, but was caught by Kiro in the next second.
Kiro: A few days ago, I didn’t play with you, which made you unhappy with me.
He was talking to himself, then sighed slightly.
Kiro: From now on I will play with you every day, but you are not allowed to bite your tail.
Kiro: If you bite your tail bald again, I will confiscate your dried fish!
Hearing what he said, I couldn’t help but laugh.
Kiro turned around when he heard the sound and when I saw Cello resting in his arms, I opened my eyes wide.
MC: You made a small flower for her bald spot.
A small flower made of pink wool is tied around Cello’s tail, which was probably taken from Kiro’s clothes. It covered most of the bald spot.
Kiro: Miss Chips, why are you back so soon?
Kiro was a little taken back, but because of my presence, there was an unconcealed smile in his eyes.
As I walked to Kiro’s side, I creased my eyes and opened my mouth.
MC: Because the witty Miss Chips changed the meeting to an online one, if it is synchronized with the time abroad, it will not start until the evening.
Kiro touched his chin thoughtfully.
Tumblr media
Kiro: In other words, before the meeting, you still have a lot of time alone with me.
MC: You can think of it like that.
Suddenly I saw the familiar sly smile in his eyes. I was stunned for a second as I realized something and then took a step back cautiously.
Kiro smiled innocently and brilliantly.
Kiro: Miss Chips can’t run away, you came back to me by “getting caught” by my net. *Changed some wording*
In the next second, he hugged my waist and his presence hit me overwhelmingly.
Cello jumped to the ground, licked her paws, and curiously tilted her head to look at everything in front of her.
Kiro led me to the sofa where I sat in his arms, my heartbeat still a little fast.
Kiro chuckled.
Tumblr media
Kiro: Why does Miss Chips look like as if I’m going to do something bad?
His palm touched my bare back, arousing a shudder.
He looked down at me, but there was nothing else in his eyes other than like.
I think of his unusual moments these past few days and my heart can’t help but feel moved.
The next second, I reached out and hooked my arms around Kiro’s neck. Kiro looked at me in a daze.
MC: Kiro, all the things that happen to you, I want to be the first person to share them with you.
I paused.
MC: Just as happiness and sadness are all the flavours of life we must experience;
MC: I want to be together in those bleak moments that must be experienced.
MC: Because--friction generates heat.
MC: So next time if you feel empty, let me stay with you.
MC: Let me fill your time.
Kiro’s eyes seemed to have a small sparkle of light in them after hearing my words.
After a while, I was pulled by Kiro and fell back into his arms.
Following his movements, my bag fell to the ground and a clear sound rang out. Kiro turned his head and glanced, leaning over and picking up a lipstick.
I reached out to take the lipstick, but Kiro grabbed my wrist.
He looked at me and suddenly put some on his lips slowly.
In the small and charming space, all his movements seemed to be slow and carefully planned, which made me suddenly think of the fragments I saw in the lens.
Tumblr media
Kiro: While eating hot pot, Miss Chips said that she regretted not being able to see my exclusive performance.
He paused for a moment and gave a grin.
Kiro: Well now you can.
He raised his hand and the hot red in his palm brushed my hair and then letting it fall onto my back, bringing the smell of spices.
It’s like a light kiss.
I stiffened for a moment, only to feel that the spot touched by him was burning like fire, making me want to get closer.
MC: Kiro….
Tumblr media
I muttered Kiro’s name softly. As if receiving some kind of response, he suddenly took my hand.
Then he lowered his head slightly and pressed his warm lips to my wrist.
Kiro: I’m here.
There was a warm touch from his skin and Kiro’s lips were still pressed against my wrist, but he lifted his eyes to look at me.
I blushed suddenly and wanted to lower my head and look away. The next second, I was firmly grasped with his other hand.
He held my hand and guided my fingertips past his lips.
His look was seductive, like a fairy falling into the world, unknowingly attracting me.
But perhaps, he knew it.
Kiro: Now I am sure that you have filled the most precious time in my world.
His blue eyes are as gentle as the sea and there is only a small me inside of them.
He looked at me and got closer, hot breath fell on the side of my neck accompanied by a soft voice.
Kiro: In fact, there have always been many temptations and difficulties on the way to becoming an actor.
Kiro: It’s a small boat called “Kiro”, sailing on the waves of the world. He often encounters danger, gets injured, and breaks.
The soft touch lingers from the side of my neck to my earlobe, and the breathy whispers fall on my ears very affectionately.
Kiro: But this one person, she found the boat on the boundless sea and repaired his damages.
Kiro: She then stayed on the boat and sailed the world with him to see glaciers and lakes.
Tumblr media
Kiro: This person is called Miss Chips, and she is-- the beacon that guides me through the world.
His voice is like falling petals; quiet and soft with the ultimate sincerity. *Changed some wording*
Kiro: In the play, Kiro’s emotions belong to the stage.
Kiro: But Kiro outside the play, his world, everything about him belongs to you.
The scorching temperature left my neck and he looked at me earnestly with undisguised emotions in his eyes, like the surging ocean tides.
I couldn’t help but hug his neck back.
MC: Kiro, you made me the best Miss Chips in the world.
MC: Let’s go to farther places together, see glacial lakes, and sail the world together….
MC: Nothing can make me leave your side.
The sunflower grows enthusiastically and his golden hair is soft and brilliant. The world is flourishing and beautiful, just like himself.
If I were Kiro’s beacon for sailing the world, then let me be that tower that illuminates him.
Because-- he is also the most indispensable part of my world.

𝐂𝐚𝐧’𝐭 𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐩 𝐟𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧 𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞.
𝐂𝐚𝐧’𝐭 𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐩 𝐟𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧 𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞 | ❝Slowly, she was collapsed and sheathed inside his heart — and that was the beginning and the end of everything for Levi Ackerman.❞
𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐝 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭: 2590;
𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐥𝐚𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐫: Mentions of canon-typical violence. Inspired by Arwen Undómiel's speech in “The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of The Ring'' and the song ''Can’t help falling in love'' by Elvis.
𝐀𝐮𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐫'𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐞: Hi! English is not my native language, so if you spot a misspelled word or anything else, feel free to let me know. I plan to look for someone to help me with proofreading because I feel like I leave a lot behind. I hope I can find help to continue publishing these short stories!
────── ▎Levi Ackerman still remembers the feeling when he realized that he loved her.
He knew, he simply knew, that nothing would ever be the same again. This love came suddenly, without warning, and was born inside him in silence, destroying all the countless walls he had built over the years.
The rational and critical part of his brain is always trying to convince him to drown that feeling because nothing good can result from love in those days. So, for a long time, Levi tried to act as if it didn't hurt — how bad hiding what he felt hurt his mind. The fact was: he always lost the people he loved. The fear of losing another person, of seeing them turn into a memory, never terrified him as much as it did now. He didn't want to lose her too.
So, he wonders what the hell he should do. Over the past few months, Levi has always kept her back and that was the nature of their relationship. Levi's understanding of her had always been instinctive, based on a single fact: they were perfect opposites and, in a way, perfect counterweights. But then, he looked at her in a million different ways and loved her in each of them — as a soldier, as a partner, as a friend, as a lover.
Suddenly, humanity's strongest soldier, the one who had brought down countless titans and people who performed evil deeds beyond human comprehension, was unarmed and vulnerable. Slowly, she was collapsed and sheathed inside his heart — and that was the beginning and the end of everything for Levi Ackerman.
The first time Levi Ackerman realized how much he loved her occurred the night before the operation to retake Wall Maria. It was evening, and it was raining - a fine, murmuring autumnal drizzle. The weather was comfortable. Not so hot and not so cold, but just right. Even so, Levi Ackerman was not feeling well. His body was begging for rest and his mind for comfort, but he could not afford to lie down like everyone else. In the stillness, his thoughts were constantly interrupted by the image of the soldiers and friends he had lost over the years, thrown to the ground and covered in his own blood, and this made Levi feel dizzy and sick.
His shoulders were down, his head hung down, and his body was slightly bent over the documents on his desk. Beside him was a long-empty cup of tea. It was the shadow of the great Levi Ackerman. It was simpler than humanity's strongest soldier, but at the same time it was empty and incomplete. Ironic. He had always boasted of being cool, of not caring about trivialities, and of keeping himself intact as a captain, and now he was nothing but a decaying shadow of the infamous Levi Ackerman.
And so, the first few hours of that night passed. So much was happening all at once. He ran his hand through his hair, trying to clear his mind and stand firm, as he always should.
He sighed. Levi left the pile of documents meticulously organized on the table, picked up the empty cup, and stood up. His eyes grew accustomed easily to the darkness, the only sound was of an old clock at the end of the hall and his footsteps on the old linoleum floor.
「flashback」
Levi liked to think he lived long enough to understand that one can never escape his true nature. Such is Historia's destiny, and she is finally crowned as Queen before a large and enthusiastic crowd. The people remember seeing the Queen protect them from a Titan and admire her for standing up to her father.
A smart move, Levi thought.
Standing next to Erwin and Hange, he thinks of his mother. Of Isabel, who cannot be the heroine she was meant to be. He thinks of Furlan and his resilience. He thinks of all the people he has lost over the years, especially those who failed to become what they were meant to be.
''Hey'', Mikasa's voice was low, but it was enough to get the captain's attention.
Up to that point, Levi had not greeted any of his squadron members, although he knew that many were with unasked questions hanging on their tongues. Political issues occupied most of his time. The words were not spoken, but duly were there, at some point; all praise and words of gratitude for his team.
And Levi looked at her, grave tenderness in his eyes turned to Mikasa, and yet, even if she had not been raised among men of war, she was someone many could not overcome in battle. She approached the girl with hair as black as raven wings and whispered something in her ear, to which Mikasa thanked her with a small smile. In those days, it was rare to see anyone smile.
Her dress, which was a deep green with white flower embroidery and golden arabesques on the sleeves, shimmered in the faint wind that afternoon. Levi thinks that she looks so beautiful with the sunlight in her hair.
He interrupts his thought suddenly, his eyebrows knitting together in confusion.
And, as if sensing that she is being watched, she raises her eyes from Mikasa to the captain. He thinks that she is going to raise one of her eyebrows or simply keep the conversation with Mikasa. But then she did something that surprised him even more. She smiled. At him.
He feels his cheeks burn.
''You are staring, shorty'', said Hange, amused, following his gaze.
''Tch, shut up.''
It was just a smile, but Levi couldn't forget it for the rest of the ceremony.
He thought that the true beauty of the place belonged to her.
「 flashback's end」
Damn, he thinks. That smile.
The smell of tea berries and wet earth overwhelm him. Outside, the rain was falling hard as he brewed another cup of tea. He sipped the warm, clear liquid, allowing the noise made by his lips as he sucked the drink to ring out loud. He smiled, amazed that she didn't like the drink. This was the first more human demonstration he had had in a long, long time.
It was during a sleepless night like that, months ago, when they could finally be in each other's presence, just them. It was... easy to talk. Maybe it was because of the tea, the sound of her laughter, or none of those two things. Maybe just her and her way of looking beyond him as nothing but.... Levi. Just Levi.
Levi grew up poor and alone in a place where he was taught to hate every bit of it with a burning passion, he understands a thing or two about injustice and hate even before Kenny decides to teach him how to fight. He loved his mother with every fiber of his being. He loved his friends. When they died, Levi felt like he was dying with them; but that feeling? It was a different kind of love. He had never loved anything, or anyone like her.
Get out of my head, woman.
He took a deep breath and decided to put those thoughts aside once again. After finishing the tea, he put the cup away and headed back to his room.
He stopped himself momentarily when he noticed the door ajar on his right.
And there she was, dressed in a silver and blue dress, in a polished wooden chair by the window, whose light westerly wind blew through and made her hair flutter. To him, it seemed that starlight was in her eyes.
Levi was silent for a second and then sighed. There was nothing to be said now that they were there, preparing to reclaim the lost lands and waiting for answers.
But when she let out a deep sigh of pain, he slammed his knuckles against the door. She raised her eyes to him, feeling her throat go dry, and immediately leaned back, pulling her eyebrows together in confusion.
''Captain,'' she said, but signs of weariness and pain could not be hidden in her gently voice.
"Are you hurt?" asked the superior, taking her by surprise.
"Except for a few bruises, I'm fine'', She said, gesturing for him to come in. "Can't sleep?"
Levi studied her from top to bottom, paying attention to her body language and any sign of injury. There were two scars on her hands. She tried to cover them with the sleeve of her dress.
''I rarely get any sleep, so the person who should be asking this question is me,'' he said, and although he was glad to see her, worry ran through his chest.
She smiled.
"Fair enough''
Frustration tightened his voice a bit, but she thought it was incredibly appealing when he said: ''You never respond the way people expect you to.''
Levi approached and stopped beside the window. The beautiful weather and the calm seemed a mere mockery to the men before the most dreadful mission of their lives.
"I'm sorry," she says sincerely. ''Just a stupid accident during training...and I can't sleep,'' she admitted. ''Nightmares. They've been recurring since we faced the female titan. I think my brain is malfunctioning.''
''It's ok you have hard times.''
She took a deep breath and then inhaled slowly. It had been a long time since they had shared moments like that; and she had always loved his company infinitely, even though she had never shown it in words.
The thoughts began to surge like a burst of fireworks, making loud noises, disappearing and reappearing. Instinctively, she pressed one hand against the other, but the twinge of pain almost made her curse. He didn't miss that.
''You should bandage this to prevent an infection'' he says.
She let her hands slide to the sides of her body.
''Yeah, you're probably right.''
"Do you have any medical kits around here?''
Her expression wavers for a while, as if she is thinking about it. Then she turns and opens one of the bags left beside the bed. Levi has approached her as she begins to rummage through the material.
''Here, let me do that,'' he said.
「flashback」
The horses pranced and neighed, startled, when a group of titans was spotted. The maneuvering equipment tinkled as the wires were released. The sight of those creatures was terrifying, but the battlefield had already become a part of their lives, and Survey Corps was willing to fight.
Above, a sunless sky, muffled by heavy clouds. Levi could hear roars and screams all around, the sharp, distinctive thud of the clash of blades against the back of the titans' heads. There were bloodied bodies, some without limbs and with pieces strewn across the surrounding ground.
Then, time seemed to freeze.
The titan's giant hand withdrew and a terrible howl resound across the battlefield.
The titan screamed again, but the fury of the guttural howl was nothing compared to what the captain felt as he investigated the still face of (Y/N). For the hundredth of a second it took his mind to assimilate the events, Levi was struck by horror. He stood motionless; he simply found himself gripping the blades and looking at her. Suddenly, his muscles were contracted by the urgency, the will, the urge to hurt him. This wild need, echoing in his ears like a broken record, obscured his mind.
With an immense bang, several blows struck the titan.
As the creature felt motionless to the ground, Levi ran to it, whose face was as white as a lobelia and as cold as frost.
He didn't know how deeply he was entwined with her until they tried to take her away from him
「 flashback's end」
Levi listened attentively to everything she said, as she was also attentive to the gentle, careful way in which he touched her.
''I hope you won't use this to bribe me, Ackerman.''
He rolls his eyes.
''Maybe I'll take Sasha's food and say it was you.''
''That's the biggest threat I've ever heard in my entire life,'' she says eventually.
A strange flutter in his stomach threatened a smile on his face.
"Maybe it makes you let to be a brat"
She takes a long breath.
"I'll let her kill me and then you'll be sorry"
"Don't be so dramatic", he says. "By the way, I'll never let anyone hurt you as long I live."
She is speechless. Her heart starts to beat faster than she thought it could, and all her body was filled with a so good feel. She couldn't explain exactly what is, but there was anyway.
Levi doesn't look at her face again. And then, the silence was back once again.
It was a difficult operation for the Captain; he touches her skin, heard her voice so close and quietly to him.
"It's done", Levi says.
She follows his eyes and saw her own hands. He still was holding them.
"I appreciate that."
He looks at her.
You're so fucking beautiful.
Levi runs his thumb over her fingers tenderly.
A crow screams at the top of its lungs in the distance, and she almost cringes. Levi ignores him and, longing for her starry eyes again, brings her hand to his lips and places a soft kiss on his skin.
"Are you afraid?" she whispers. Levi could feel the goosebumps that her touch gave him. ''Sometimes, I feel as if we are going to discover something eviler than the titans themselves.''
The wind blows angrily, making her hair fly.
''There are few things that make me afraid. This is not one of them.''
Losing you is, he thinks.
Inside his chest, the sound of his racing heartbeat is loud enough for him to hear. His heart pulses melodiously, pumping blood and sending some to his cheeks.
"Besides, this must be the first time I've heard you say you're afraid," he says, braiding invisible lines on the back of his hands. "Maybe you're sick. Let's examine it before it devours your brain entirely.
"I can't tell if you're joking or not."
He laughs lightly, and she thinks how nice it is when he does that. Levi's face is always so stern, so cold when they are around others. It's like it's a secret that only she knows.
Suddenly, Levi thinks about what it would feel like to kiss her.
"You should try to rest now", he whispers, looking away.
He starts to walk to the door.
It was in this exact moment he wished to have been able to tell her all those things in his mind.
"Wait!"
He turns back to her.
"What is?"
While Levi said, she holds his cheeks with her palms.
"Stay", she whispers. "Just a little longer"
Levi feels his heart beating faster than he thought it could, and all of his body was filled with that desire again.
Their lips touch in a chaste and last kiss for barely a second.
Levi holds her hands close to his heart. His tongue traces her bottom lips, brushes against the edge of her teeth before mingling with hers. It was kind, as it could say all those things on his heart.
When their lips step back, he says: "For as long as you wish"

Love Through the Ages (Jason Todd)
Tumblr media
Summary:  Love like baggage needs to be declared.
a/n: This is part three of a series that is a fic rec list disguised as a fic. For these fics, most of the characters will be speaking different languages, so unless specified otherwise assume that the characters are speaking in the first language I mention. They’re all vampires with centuries under their belt. Why wouldn’t I make them all polyglots.  Also, thank you to the proof reading gang for putting up with my shenanigans.  I will have links to the fics I recommend in the fic itself. ALSO, y'all can thank @littleredwing89 for the poem that comes up.
Warnings: Everyone is dramatic.
Masterlist
Series Masterlist.
You tap at your phone screen, planting seeds in a satisfyingly hypnotic rhythm, the sounds of the train vacillating in and out of your periphery. It was soothing having your own compartment, a little world you can isolate yourself in while you anxiously await for the inevitable.
It wasn’t a secret that you found Gotham stressful. It was about as much a secret as Tony Stark’s civilian identity. You pulled your knees up to your chest at the thought. Big cities were stressful but Gotham was a different beast entirely. It was a writhing monster of steel and smoke. You wrinkle your nose deciding to sweep the thought away.
Instead, you concentrate on your plants and your farm. You wince looking at your journal. It looks like you’d forgotten another quest. Pursing your lips, you decide to turn your phone off for a bit and pretend the NPCs can sort it out on their own as you look out the window.
You lean against the wall, pressing your cheek to the cool window. You can’t help but smile to yourself thinking of a sea of black curly hair interrupted by a shock of white, sea green eye perpetually alight with mischief or intelligence (9 times out of 10, you really couldn’t tell which it was.), freckles like star map, and a mouth permanently set in a cocky grin. It’s hard not to smile like an idiot when thinking of Jason Todd.
Your skirt flutters in the wind as you dance your way through the crowd, bobbing up and down on your tiptoes over the sea of humans. Sometimes the smell of them still makes your mouth water but not now, not when the smell of Gotham is so pungent in the air.
You see a gloved hand wave at you on the other side of the crowd. You pin your sunhat against your head as you rush through the crowd, your luggage dragging behind you.
Jason waves a two fingered salute at  you in front of a motorcycle, his foot clearly stomping a cigarette. You toss your hat to him. It flutters over the crowd. Jason catches it easily, putting it on his own head.
"Hey Princess, welcome back." Jason greets, the syllables of your native French gliding off of his tongue so easily. Fighting down a blush, you swallow your own greeting. Jason would have been a great ambassador in a different life were he not inclined to murder someone with a desert spoon for being a jackass.
He offers his hat back to you, but you shake your head. "You might freckle too much in Gotham's sunny weather." He gives you a hearty chuckle keeping the hat on.
"Missed you too, princess."
You roll your eyes. Pinching your nose, you look around. "You forgot to tell me to bring a gas mask."
"Every city smells like this."
"Darling, you've been in Gotham for too long."
"And you've been in your French villa for too long." Jason says, putting his sunglasses on you. You glare at him through them.
"First of all, it's a cottage."
Jason snorts, "As if that makes a difference. It's still in the idyllic French countryside, isn't it?"
"I-"
"I rest my case."
You cross your arms. "You're welcome to visit, you know?" It was a hopeful suggestion at best.
"We both know the quiet will drive me crazy."
"I said visit," you say, "besides, I think the train ride alone would drive you up the wall." You remember how Jason is with tight spaces.
"Not with you there." Jason winks.
Your heart presses a bruise into your throat and you hate Jason Peter Todd all over again.
"Ah yes, you plan on driving me mad. Evil. Truly evil of you." You say, grinning back at him.
"Here's a wild idea, how bout we just not listen to Roy? How does that sound?" Jason gently suggests, handing you your offensively pink cup of caffeinated goop. Jason can smell the sickening amount of sweeteners added. He might gag.
"Nope," you say, smiling at him as you slurp your ooze. Jason's stomach rolls. Alfred would have an aneurysm. "He was even nice enough to get us both tickets." You hand him one, fingers brushing against his. They felt calloused as they always did. Jason suppresses any oncoming reaction.
He instead turns his attention to the ticket in his hands. Love Through the Ages: Gotham Museum Exhibition on expressions of love. Jason runs through the numbers. "These are $59 each."
"So sweet of him, isn't it?" You chirp adorably.
Jason makes a mental note to kill both of you. "You're only going along with this cus you want to watch me suffer." Jason says, slumping his chair. His foot kicks out to tap your foot.
"I'm doing it affectionately," you say, tapping his foot with yours. "Besides, it's a universal pass time at this point." You swirl your drink and grin at him. It was your real grin, all bright and eager and stupidly sweet. Something in Jason's chest twists. It's always hard to breathe when you smile at him but really Jason would rather all the oxygen in the atmosphere be burned up than see your smile disappear.
He sounds dramatic and he knows that but still he knows it's true.
"C'mon Jay, it'll be fun."
Shoulders slouched, Jason smiles at you indulgently. "Fun for who?"
"Mainly me but you can have fun too."
"You are so lucky you're adorable when you're being evil."
Your smile brightens and with a tap of his foot against yours, he thinks he'll survive whatever Roy has in store for him.
You and Jason have been walking around the museum for quite a bit with Jason's arm wrapped tightly around your shoulders and homicide radiating off of him every time someone even looks at you funny. He'd said that the arm slung around your shoulder was so that you wouldn't get lost. As for the homicide,  he elected to ignore the question entirely.
You flush as Jason quotes another line from 'Master Valentine' back to you. You definitely regret letting him house sit. You regret even more not hiding your books. You squirm as Jason whispers the quote in your ear in a husky drawl. The erotica in the book is amazing and you're normally comfortable with talking to Jason about everything, but this- this was just cruel and unusual punishment. It's what you get for trying to make him suffer.
All the pet names he murmured in your ear crawled up your spine. You shove his face away hiding your own in your sleeve. He laughs into your hand enjoying your sudden bout of shyness.
Jason mumbles a half-hearted apology into your hand, pressing a soft kiss into your palm. You lower your head. You're still clearly avoiding his gaze but you let him press you to his side. Jason Todd is an asshole.
You point to a pair of ice skates so well worn and well loved that you almost miss the little penguins stitched on the side. "Love on the ice? That's so cute!"
Jason glances at them with mild interest. "Sounds like hypothermia." He says, shrugging.
Swatting at his chest, you pout at him. He rolls his eyes nudging your shoulder with his. You scowl at him and stick your tongue out. Jason leans down, unable to stop the urge to press a kiss to your brow. You scowl even harder.
"Admit it, doll. The whole exhibition is just Dickie's favorite fanfiction tropes."
"Professor Todd, be a dear and enlighten my troglodyte ass."
He snorts, "Princess, if I was a professor we both know I'd have the highest attendance rate."
"And the highest failure rate." You say cocking a brow.
"Probably."
"You're terribly humble today."
"I just know I look good."
No, you don't, you think. You shake your head. "That explains the leather jacket."
"You love my leather jacket."
"Well, Biscuit certainly loved your previous one."
Jason wrinkled his nose thinking of the yellow disaster. "That dog was a menace."
"She is the sweetest creature on earth."
"She destroyed my jacket and ate my wallet AND phone."
"I never said she was smart... wait, we're getting off topic."
Jason narrows his eyes at you then points to a crown. It was an intricate lattice of silvers and golds with diamonds that glittered like starlight. "Royal AU," he says simply, "go on read the description."
"A prince and a princess from rival nations are bound by a marriage of convenience. Through a series of missteps. They fell for each other.... that one was pretty easy. Do it again."
He points to a blue feather. "Mythology AU."
You arch a brow at him. He waves at it, urging you to read. "A god descended to earth to be with his mortal lover only for him to lose his memories of her." The feather's glow is incandescent. You can feel the power radiating off of it, a sure sign of divinity.
Once, you would have brushed it off as mere story. You've spent more than twice your lifetime now dipped into the world of myths. You glance at Jason.  Simple divinity no longer fazes you.
"See?"
"I- Nope."
"You're just being stubborn."
"Would you have been my friend if I wasn't?" Would you have saved me if I wasn't?
You think Jason hears your unspoken question when he frowns. Instead, he turns on his heel to face the other direction. He points to a bouquet of wilted roses tied together by a green ribbon. They still smell of blood and something you couldn't identify.  Your eyes drift down curious. Your eyes trace over the words feeling your stomach tumble.
"Gruesome." Jason vocalizes inanely. He hooks his head on the crown of your head, neatly slotting your body under his. You're safe, surrounded by walls of muscle. The crease in your brow softens. You would think that Jason would be less protective after you'd turned but now that you were a vampire, he was somehow even more protective. Roy always joked you only got Biscuit and your other dogs as lap dogs because you already had Jason. He may not have been too off on his guess.
"This should be in a horror exhibit," you say leaning into Jason's chest, "kind of reminds me of you though." You tilt your head up grinning at him.
"If you make a joke about me being jack the ripper again, I swear I'll-"
"-Bury me alive 6 feet under concrete with a recording of Roy singing Auld Lang Syne in a terrible British accent. Got it. What I meant was... you're just as protective as the man in the story." You say, smiling at him.
For good reason, Jason thinks.
Jason buries half of his face in your hair, hiding his answering smile. You smell like sugar and cinnamon. It's a familiar combination of smells that puts him at ease despite the atrocious amount of people in the museum.
You point to another artifact, afraid that you'd accidentally picked at an old wound.
"Star-crossed lovers." He mumbles into your hair.
"Bullshit!"
"Read it and weep, doll."
You read the plaque and the words 'meet' and 'different world' assault your eyes. You scowl at him. "Fuck you."
The grin on Jason's face is genuine. It makes something in your veins sing knowing how much fun he's having.
Your face softens. "You really love this romance stuff, huh?"
Jason narrows his eyes at you.
"You were the one bawling your eyes out when we binged Spaces Between Us. Who the hell cries during erotica?"
"IT'S TRUE LOVE AND YOU KNOW IT IN YOUR SOUL," you protest, pounding your fist against his chest,"besides, you're the one who was crying nonstop when we watched the IDHY duology."
"I was crying because they were accurate book adaptations."
You blink at him confused. "There's a book?"
"Yes, you illiterate heathen."
"You sound like a conquistador."
“....”
"At least they got their happy ending." You say, changing the subject.
"That's true."
"Still better than Titanic."
He furrows his brow at you. "What's wrong with the Titanic?"
"First of all," You pitch your shoulders like you're about to give him a lecture, "That was 3 hours of my life wasted on a shitty movie. It wasn't even that accurate."
"Princess, not everyone can survive the Arctic."
"And second, the most romantic scene in that romantic movie was the old couple staying together as they sank."
Jason laughs, a deep rumbling sound. It scrambles your brain, almost dissolving your annoyance until he opens his mouth again. "You sound like Damian."
"Jason Peter Todd, take that back." You screech, swiping at him.
He jumps back, his laughter still echoing. "Stop sounding like the demon brat first."
You run after him, telegraphing your murderous intent. Jason walks away faster, sticking his tongue out at you. Your growl and claw at the air. You screech obscenities as Jason continues to evade you. He is having way too much fun with this.
You chase Jason around the exhibition for a solid half hour before you come to a skittering halt.
Your eyes land on a vermillion book, leather bound and carefully crafted by skilled hands. You step closer to admire the swirling, arabesque patterns lining the leather. No title is embossed on the front.  It's thick. You would wager it was at least 400 pages.
Your eyes drift down even further, finding a  familiar scrawl. Below the book were photocopies of some of the pages. Pablo Neruda's 'If You Forget me', Beethoven's 'Immortal beloved', Ibn Hazm's 'My Heart', and a bunch of other poets you didn't know but recognized as ...
"Jason these are your favorites."
"What?" He says, walking over to you cautiously.
You look back down at the pages and your eyes catch on the one in the middle. From the numbering, it was the last.
Love is such a hard thing to define,
I don’t know if I could ever find,
The words to truly express the complexity of such an emotion.
It is an emotion felt in the heart,
Long before it makes sense to the mind,
illusive and uncertain until suddenly it just clicks.
Like so many things in this world,
we tend to know it when we see it in others,
even if we can’t be sure of it ourselves.
I think I’ve always known how much I love you,
When I look at you,
I see everything I’ve ever wanted.
When I look at you,
I see nothing else but your perfect beauty.
Inside and out.
I'm not a poet, (Y/n), but I will tell you anyway I can how much I love you.
-Jason Peter Todd
Jason is a stone next to you.
His mouth is filled with sand as he looks at the far too familiar handwriting. He knew. He knew the moment he saw the red book what it was. Hell, the moment you told Jason it was Roy who told you to go to the museum, he knew what it was. God, why can't he just turn to ash.
Jason can't make himself turn to you. He can't bear to see what ever disgusted expression you make. He just can't.
He feels a tug on his sleeve. He doesn't move. He  feels another tug, this time harder. When he doesn't respond the second time, you lace your fingers in his and spin him around.
You squish his cheeks in your hands. "Jason, you actual sap." You say. You look like you're glowing. You beam at him, all toothy and scrunched faced. Jason's lungs stop working again. His mind can't process what you're saying. All Jason knows is that something warm is crowding his chest, pushing everything else out.
"Wha?"
"Jason, you absolute dork!" You repeat, unfazed by his temporary bout of insanity.
Jason is blushing, looking like a strawberry with his freckles. Jason is more adorable than anyone has any right to be. But that's ok. That's perfectly ok cus he's yours.
In a moment of uncontained affection, you pull Jason to you, pressing a kiss against his lips. It's soft and earnest and exciting. It was a kiss Jason spent lifetimes dreaming about. It was you and completely you.
"Jay, they're beautiful." You say in a breathless laugh.
Jason looked down at his feet. "I-" was never planning on giving it to you, he thinks. Because, why would you ever love someone like Jason? Especially, after what he'd done to you.
As if reading his mind, you press your forehead against his. "I love you too, Jay, and you can't argue me out of it. Sorry bud, you're stuck with me."
Jason can't help the smile as it curls on his lips.
He's happy. He's so stupidly happy and he blames you.
"Plus, I already knew."
"Why didn't you say it first?" He asks, his fingers brushing against his tingling lips.
"Cus," you say, pirouetting away from him, "you wouldn't believe me if I did."
"How-"
You put your hand up. "Trust me, Jay. I've tried before." You tilt your head back looking up at the sky light. The curtain of light fell on you like a spotlight highlighting everything ethereal about you. "Remember in Milan? When I told you I cared about you and you told me I didn't."
Jason remembered that. He was angrier back then. He snarled that to you like some wild animal and threatened to throw you out on your ass if you ever so much as spoke a word of that nonsense again. It was the first time he'd seen you look hurt. You face was wide open with shock.  Jason felt something in his chest tear at that look. He stormed off, leaving you in that room.
When he came back, you offered him warm tea and a smile. You were quiet, inconsolably quiet.
It didn't…
He didn't…
It didn't occur to him that look in your eyes was heartbreak.
Jason curses under his breath.
You chortle at him, the mirth in your eyes incandescent.
"Yeah. Exactly." You say, clasping your hands behind your back. Jason would like to be buried six feet under with the only words carved into his gravestone 'I am so sorry (Y/n)'.
You snick seeing the look in his eyes. "Or that time in Paris. The one in the little patisserie when I told you in perfect Catalan that you meant more to me than anything else and do you remember what you told me?"
"I told you you were possessed." Jason's shoulders slump. "Please tell me you don't have a third example."
You smile at him pityingly. "I don't-"
"OH THANK FU-"
"I have 50. Well, 51 but the last one didn't count since I was joking that time."
In Jason's mind, his jaw hits the obsidian floor with an audible 'plop'. It would be loud enough that the entire museum would hear it were it real. He blinks at you. "You tried more than 10 times?"
"I was encouraged." You say shrugging.
"Of course, you were," he grumbles and you laugh. Jason's heart skips a beat but he pushes past the feeling in favor of pleading with you. "Please don't list them."
"Oh, I'm not." You hum.
Jason sighs with relief.
"I'm gonna leave that to Roy."
"Son of a- He knows?"
You look over your shoulder. "Yeah. Who do you think I complain to?"
"Who else knows?" He asks, trailing behind you as you walk to .... Jason doesn't know at this point and he doubts you do too.
"Oh just your family."
"I'm surprised they haven't given me shit about it."
"Oh I bullied them into not doing it."
"Impressive." He whistles and you preen.
"Always," you say smugly. You begin to walk a bit faster, craning your neck. "Now, let's go find out if Dickie installed that bakery I asked for."
"That's what you're after?" Jason laughs.
"It's a noble goal." You protest.
"You don't even need to feed."
"I need to feed my inner sweets monster. She's very fussy and is demanding crepes specifically."
Jason smiles softly at you, amused that of all the human traits you could have retained after being turned was a sweet tooth.
"Sorry to tell you doll face, Dickie still hasn't done it."
You look aghast like he'd slapped you in the face with a large baguette.
"What?!"
"He hasn't put in your suggestion from 10 years ago."
"Where am I supposed to get my fix?"
"Are we still talking about sweets or have you moved on to cocaine?"
"Dunno, have you tried snorting sugar?"
"No. Why- Have you?"
"...my lawyer advised against answering this question."
Jason cackles. "How am I the stupid one?"
"I-" Your scowl turns sickeningly sweet. "Yanno, the third time I tried was when-"
"OK. Stop." Jason's face lights up again. "I give."
"Pfff." You smile, looking far too pleased with yourself.
Jason straightens up, something sly passing through his eyes. You stop. The look in his eyes makes you nervous.
"I think I know where you can get something sweet."
You swallow nervously.
Jason leans in. He’s so close to you. You can feel his breath brush against your lips. Nothing else around you seems to exist at the moment.
You lean in to kiss him but you freeze when you register his voice.
“I’m taking you downtown. There’s a new bakery there and I heard the crepes were to die for.” He chuckles, turning to walk towards the exit.
“What the hell?!” You call out falling into step with him.
He grins down at you, arms folded behind his head. “Something wrong, princess?”
Heat rises in your cheeks and elbow him in the side.
“I want to take you on a proper date and I sure as hell am not starting here.” He says, rubbing his side and conspicuously not looking at you.  There’s a dust of peach on his face. Your anger fades away. It gives way to a fluttering in your chest.
“Where?”
He looks at you then, brow furrowed.
“Why don’t I take you to the fair, princess? There’s plenty of sweet treats there that’ll tickle your fancy.”
Your mouth waters when you think about all the cotton candy they have.
“I heard there’s a kissing booth too, so if you’re lucky,” Jason continues, winking at you. Predictably, you blanch at him. You knock your knuckles against his chest. Jason chuckles, rubbing his chest. “Sorry princess, I mean if I’m lucky enough to get a kiss from you.”
The temerity.
The gall.
“As long as you get me something sweet.” You huff, exiting the building.
Jason stops on the steps, turning to you with a sly smile. Crossing your arms, you pause bracing for whatever trick is up his sleeve. Jason tilts his head. He says something but the little noises of the city make the words hard to discern. You lean closer to hear him better. Jason steps closer to close the distance, his lips warm against yours. You’re stunned. Your entire body divided on how to react, some parts stiffen while others turn to jelly.
He pulls away, wolfish grin unwavering. "That sweet enough for you sweetheart?"

Chapter 4: Always Next Time
Tumblr media
Who the hell were those men?
Shaken up from her encounter with the three gunmen, (Y/N) threw the front doors of her home open and hurried inside with Mr Pennycrumb skittering behind her. “Dad?” She called out as she hurried all around, her voice breaking and echoing throughout the house. “Dad?!”
“(Y/N), hun, what’s going on?” The southern accent sounding from behind her caused her tense posture to relax as she turned to Grace.
“Mom… W-Where’s Dad?”
“He’s at a meeting, sweetheart. I’m not sure where, he didn’t tell me much,” When her daughter nodded with a faraway look, Grace took a step closer. “What happened? Where’s Preston?”
Swallowing, (Y/N) tried her best to crawl out of the hole she dug for herself, but it seemed to just be getting deeper. “Uh… I was attacked by some crazy people a-and Preston decided to take me home.” She rushed out as her feet quickly took her to the staircase that led to the rooms. Grace was immediately on her heels.
“You were what?! Honey, are you okay?! Who was it, what’d they do?!”
“It’s fine, Mom-”
“No, it’s not! You need to be tellin’ us these things, (Y/N). W-What if somethin’ like last time happened?” Grace recalled the day the two met. The girl’s shoulders visibly tensed and her mother wondered if she should have said that.
“Mom… I-”
“It’s alright, darlin’. I’m sorry for saying that.”
“No, no!” (Y/N) quickly turned towards her and brought her into a tight hug. Grace chuckled and returned the affection. “I’m glad you worry… It lets me know I’m loved.”
Grace gently ran her hand through the girl’s hair. “You most definitely are…”
(Y/N) began to get choked up, so she pulled away before the waterworks could make their presence known. She pointed behind herself awkwardly. “I’m gonna… get some sleep. I’m a little exhausted…”
“Of course, sweetheart. How about I make you a snack when you wake up?”
The familiarity of this woman making her food simply because she loved her had the girl’s (e/c) orbs nearly overflowing with tears as she nodded. “I’d love that. Thank you, Mom… I love you.” She grinned before slipping into her bedroom and softly closing the door. As soon as she heard her mother’s footsteps echo down the hall, she quickly wiped her eyes and charged towards her bed, flopping onto her back and closing her eyes.
Inhale for one, two, three, four
One, two, three, four…
One moment, she’s in her bedroom, and in the next, she’s in the park where she left her date. She adjusted her blurry vision by blinking several times. The fogginess washed away to reveal Preston much closer to her than she was comfortable with. His brown eyes were glancing at her lips as his blonde waves, once slicked back, fell in his eyes as he leaned close to her, lips puckered. Before his lips could graze hers, she pressed her index and middle fingers to his mouth. The boy frowned and stopped his movement, eyes fluttering open. “Um… What are you doing?”
“I-I was, uh-”
“I have to go,” She stood to her feet. “I think Mr Pennycrumb ran away.”
“Oh,” Preston’s entire expression fell into a look of irritation that had her blood boiling every time she saw it. “Then, I’ll help you look.”
“No,” She shook her head. “I don’t think that’ll be necessary. I’m just…”
(Y/N) placed her hand over her eyes and feigned sadness. “I’m so torn up about it… I just wanna be alone…”
“Awe, honey,” Preston stood and moved to stand in front of her. “I told you that you didn’t need that dumb dog. How about I take you to get some ice cream-”
“I just said I wanted to be alone!” She quickly turned away and took long strides to get away from him faster. “We’ll reschedule!”
Groaning into her hands, (Y/N) made her way back to her home, running to the side where the roof cast its shadow, a perfect hiding spot. Sitting down in the grass, she hugged her knees to her chest as close as she could before humming her three-note tune to dismiss her clone. Her eyes rolling to the back of her head, she became dizzy and her vision faded to black. When she opened her eyes, she was in her bedroom again, laying on her back. Exhaling, she let her hand drop onto her chest. “God…”
-------------------------------------------------
“This is it.” Five announced as he and Diego exited the car stolen by the latter. The two approached their father’s company building with slow, hesitant steps as they surveyed the exterior.
“‘D.S. Umbrella’. This is it.” Diego muttered. The closer they neared the entrance, the slower Five’s pace grew until he stopped walking altogether. Diego turned to his brother in concern. “You okay?”
Five hesitated. “Yeah, fine. Just…” When he reached the front door, he let out a sigh. Diego swiftly took out his knife and began picking the lock on the door.
“How long has it been since you’ve seen the old man?”
“Forty-five years…”
“That’s a trip…”
“No kidding…” The boy sighed yet again. “You know, when I was stuck out there in the apocalypse, there wasn’t a day that went by where I didn’t hear his voice in my head.”
Diego didn’t look away from his task. “What was he saying?” He asked before muttering to himself when he couldn’t get the door to unlock.
“‘I told you so’.”
The quote itself made Diego scoff and shake his head. “Yeah, I’ve witnessed (Y/N) get an earful of that after you left… Dad used to lock her in that damn room all the time…”
“What room?” Five stood straighter, the mention of his love something he would never disregard.
“A small, dark room in a part of the house none of us were allowed to go… I don’t know how she did it, but he kept her in that room with no windows or light or human interaction until she was able to find you,” Diego looked up at his brother. “Almost a week.”
“A week? He kept her there for almost a week?!”
“Yep. And each day she couldn’t reach you, we could hear him shouting about her ‘not wanting to find her true potential’ or whatever bullshit he tried to beat into her mind to make her feel like shit. But something must’ve happened, because on the fifth day, Mom was bringing her to her room. God, she looked…”
Five wasn’t sure if he wanted to know.
“She looked dead. Like she had just come from her own grave. She didn’t talk to anyone for a while.”
“Starlight…” The boy shut his eyes and shook his head. His mind immediately thought back on Luther’s words. Perhaps he had been dragging her into every mess he made, and he’d been doing it far longer than he thought.
Diego was silent for a few beats before breaking it with a huff. “But hey, if Dad’s here, he’s never met either of you before, so he can’t say ‘I told you so’.”
“I’m sure the bastard will find a way.” Five growled, the tiniest hint of a sarcastic smile on his face before it fell moments later. Without warning, he blinked inside the building and unlocked the door for his brother, who sat dumbly before him.
“Right… Gotta remember that.” Diego cleared his throat as he stood to his feet and walked inside. After searching around for a bit, the two decided to split up to cover more ground. Five tried several rooms, all with locked doors until he found one in particular.
The decor was disturbing, to say the least. Set up to be a family room, yet the only “people” inhabiting the room were three mannequin-esque figures. Brushing off the chill that ran down his spine, he made his way to another room with a desk on one side of it, going through several papers until he came across an invitation to a gala. Deeming this useful, Five pocketed the invitation just before the sound of something metallic clattering behind him could be heard. Slowly, the boy stalked closer to a part of the room where a child’s play area had been set up. There was a table with puzzles, crayons and paper. Five unknowingly passed a chalkboard with the names “Pogo” and “(Y/N)” written in yellow chalk. The boy’s eyes caught a drawing on the table and picked it up. It had to have been drawn by a child, the monkey on the paper poorly drawn. The character beside it, though, had the gears turning in Five’s head. It was a girl with (h/l) (h/c) hair and (s/c) skin. He was going to look around the area more when he heard another noise coming from in front of him. He dropped the paper and moved forward, his body going still at who stepped out of the shadows.
An ape wearing only pajama pants cautiously crawled out of his hiding spot and Five immediately knew who it was. His soft grunting and squeaking made the boy’s voice and actions become softer as he crouched down in front of the chimp. “Hi… Pogo,” He whispered as the two got closer. “Hey… It’s alright, little buddy.” He softly smiled as both he and Pogo stared at each other in wonder. With a gentleness only shown to his love, Five slowly reached forward. “Pogo… It’s good to see you-”
He was caught off guard when Pogo screeched and struck Five in the side of his neck, causing the boy to cry out and fall over. The chimp quickly moved away from Five and ran through the glass wall, leaving him a panting mess. The boy looked all around as his hand pressed onto his bleeding wound. “Diego! Diego!” He called out as he stumbled to his feet, dashing out of the room. Little did he know, Diego was nowhere near him, having his own share of bloodshed.
Just as Diego was about to have his ass handed to him, he spotted a rebar a little ways away from him. Turning slightly, he kicked the man who had a grip on his arm, setting himself free. The Kraken jumped onto the platform, grabbed the rebar in both his hands, and backflipped off the platform, landing right in front of his shadow-clad opponent. The man dodged nearly every swing Diego took at him, save for the one to the side, and then to the leg that sent him to his knees. Raising the rebar above his head, Diego was just ready to give this man hell. But when he raised his head and revealed himself to be Sir Reginald Hargreeves, Diego hesitated. “Dad…” He whispered before a small knife sunk itself into his abdomen. He wheezed out a breath, his father staring into his eyes as he muttered,
“Ametur.”
Diego could do nothing but fall to the ground as blood seeped out of his wound after the knife was ripped out of him, watching as Reginald continued down the foggy pathway. He clapped his gloved hands twice, alerting a screeching Pogo to drop down from where he had been waiting. Once the chimp was on the ground, he and Reginald joined hands, continuing away from the man bleeding out on the ground.
-------------------------------------------------
As Grace and (Y/N) painted together, the girl hummed her usual tune, being interrupted when her mother softly gasped. “Y’know what? Reggie wasn’t at a meeting. He was takin’ Pogo to run some tests. That’s why he’s out so late.”
“Oh, yeah, I forgot,” (Y/N) sighed. “I wanted to go this time…”
“There’s always next time, darlin’.”
“Yeah,” The girl returned to her painting. “Next time.”

Tumblr media
You hated this city.
You hated that every time you left your house, you're bound to see something that would remind you of her. You hated that the people around you still asked you about her. You hated that she was only a five minute-drive away from you, yet you weren't able to go see her, no matter how much your heart ached for you to.
You hated this city, but this city was where you were born and grew up in, where your family and friends were, where you had met her. This city—with its roads full of traffic, its bustling streets, and its busy people—was all that you ever knew, so you couldn't just up and leave. Even if every street and corner held painful memories of her.
You used to think that this city was your home, but that was until you had met her, during your freshman year of high school. She was charming in her own way, and had a smile so dazzling you nearly mistook it for a ray of sunshine. When she turned to you, and your eyes met for the first time, you knew right then that your life was never going to be the same again. All because of her.
You had remembered reading somewhere that home wasn't necessarily a place; it could also be a person, a pair of arms that you knew you belonged in.
The closer you got with her, the more it felt like you and her were like two puzzle pieces meant to fit together perfectly. Anything and everything she said or did, even something as trivial as putting a hand on your shoulder, was able to fill you with a sense of warmth and comfort. Soon she became all that you thought about, all that you sought for when you felt lost.
Soon she became your home.
Or at least, that was what you thought.
It wasn't long before you two were practically attached by the hip, and everyone who knew either one of you would know that. Where one of you were, the other wouldn't be far behind, and the fact that she lived just a neighborhood away from you helped. It was really easy for the two of you see to each other; at first you thought of it as a convenience, but time threatened to prove you otherwise.
You didn't know what came over you when you had let the words slip past your lips. You weren't drunk, you swore you never had anything to drink prior to the incident that night. So perhaps it was the heat of the moment, just the two of you sitting on top of a hill overlooking the city, and you ended up getting intoxicated by her instead of alcohol. The light pollution was so bad, there was barely a single star visible in the night sky. The view of the city after dark, however, was almost enough to make up for the lack of starlight. It was beautiful.
She was beautiful.
Hair messy, eyes soft, lips slightly chapped, your jacket draped over her shoulders. No matter how she looked, no matter what she wore, she was never anything less than beautiful in your eyes. Added with the romantic atmosphere, had you lacked self control you would've kissed her then and there.
Thankfully though, you were still able to control your actions. But as your heart raced while you stared at her, it was a lot less easier to control your words.
"I love you."
She diverted her attention from the view to look at you, eyes wide with surprise. A silence enveloped you two once more, one that felt heavier and far less comfortable than the silence before you had uttered those three words. You watched her shift awkwardly, and suddenly you became much more aware of the cold night air biting at the bare skin of your arms and neck. Where had the warmth and comfort gone?
"I love you too, y/n," Sana said carefully. You perked up at her response, feeling a wave of relief and even joy wash over you, but it was short-lived as she continued speaking before you had the chance to interrupt her. "You're my best friend, after all."
You felt your heart sink. Had she really not understood what you meant? Or was she pretending to?
"N-No, Sana," you began, frowning. "That...That's not what I meant. Not just in that way."
To this day, you regretted ever correcting her.
Another silence ensued, this one more agonizing than the last. Your heart was racing, but not in a good way, not in the way she normally made your heart palpitate. Your eyes trained on her every movement, as she avoided your eyes and brought up a hand to rub the back of her neck.
"We...We should head back."
You didn't know what else to say or do, other than agree and walk her back to her house. The walk was, as expected, terribly awkward, neither of you saying anything throughout, and you realized that that was the first time there was any awkwardness between the two of you. You hated the feeling.
Once you reached the front of her house, she turned to you, took your jacket off, and put it on you instead. However, she still refused to meet your eyes that were practically boring holes into her. As she adjusted your jacket, she spoke, ever so softly, "You're my best friend, y/n, you really are. And...And that's all you are to me. Nothing less, nothing more."
Her words were like an arrow through your heart. Not Cupid's arrow, the one that made you feel all lovestruck and giddy, but an actual piercing arrow aimed to kill you. You stared at her blankly, searching her expression for any kind of solace.
She did offer you one, a soft smile, meant to be reassuring and comforting, but you felt neither. "I'm sorry," she continued. "You're an amazing girl y/n, I know you'll be able to find someone else. So I hope this won't change anything between us." She pulled you into a hug, and you wanted to return it had your arms not felt glued to your side, before she pulled away and walked up to her front door. Before she disappeared behind it, she shot you another smile.
Her smile was definitely not telling you that things weren't going to change.
You didn't cry then. You didn't cry on your walk back to your own place. But the second your bedroom door shut behind you, and you were met with your dark, cold bedroom, the world came collapsing down on you. You sank to your floor, and you finally let your tears out.
You didn't see her for the next couple of weeks. You avoided her at school, and refused to hang out with her after school hours. You told yourself that it was what was best for you, some time alone to grieve. But weeks turned into months, yet neither of you dared to talk to one another.
Once you did decide to make the first move, she ignored you as if you weren't right there in front of her, as if you were invisible, as if you didn't exist. She simply brushed past you while talking to a couple of other girls, and she looked...happy. After what had happened between the two of you, she was able to be happy. You could do nothing but watch as she walked further and further away from you.
When you reached your house that day, you received a text on your phone.
"Let's not waste our time fixing something that's already broken"
You felt your heart break for the millionth time since the night of your confession. She had given up on you, on your once seemingly unbreakable friendship. You couldn't blame her, though; she didn't feel the same way you did and there was nothing she could do to force herself to love you back, but even with this knowledge you ghosted her for months, as if she had conducted the biggest sin the world had ever seen. If you were in her shoes, you knew that you'd be exhausted too.
She had given up on you, and you put the blame entirely on yourself.
As you flopped down onto your bed and let your tears flow, you recalled coming across a list of beautiful words from multiple different languages once, beautiful words with even more beautiful meanings. One of them was hiraeth.
Hiraeth.
You finally understood what it meant, how it felt.
She was your home, a home you could never return to, a home that never was.
+ + +
As you drove past her neighborhood on your way to get groceries, you looked out your car window, and saw her. Your houses weren't that far, and the city wasn't that big, so it wasn't your first time coming across her by chance over the years.
But this time she walked down the street, a wide smile plastered on her face and her hand in that of another woman. The other woman was saying something, and it made her laugh. That was the happiest you had ever seen her look.
You took in a deep breath as you turned your head back to keep your eyes on the road ahead, your grip on the steering wheel tightening.
You hated this city, but it was your home. The only one you've ever known, and will ever know.

You’re Such a Heavenly View
Ship: Logince (Logan x Roman)
Word Count: ~1440
Trigger Warnings: None that I can think of!
Synopsis: Logan loves the night sky, and Roman loves to see his fiancé happy. A stargazing date ensues.
Author’s Note: Woo, my first fic! This is just a quick lil oneshot, but I have a ton of other wips too! I hope you enjoy! Reblogs are appreciated if possible! :)
***
“There are no stars in the city.”
Roman glanced up from his laptop. Logan was standing by the open window, elbows resting on the windowsill. A cacophony of sounds drifted in from the streets below, taxi drivers laying on their horns and trains screeching to a halt, faint saxophone music from a street musician somewhere far below and the drip-drip-drip of rainwater on their fire escape.
Logan wasn’t looking at him—his gaze was focused on the sky, a wistful expression on his face.
“What?” Roman asked, setting his laptop aside on the couch.
“Hm?” Logan looked over at him, perplexed—before realizing that he must have said the first bit out loud. “Oh,” he said, cheeks pinking, before belatedly angling his face towards the night sky again. “Just. There are no stars in the city. Well—there are, of course, they just aren’t visible due to the amount of light pollution.”
Roman considered this for a moment, then came up behind him, wrapping his arms around his waist and hooking his chin over his shoulder. In the back of his mind, he marveled at the ease of it all—that he could hold Logan, and instead of pulling away, he would instinctively lean into him, as naturally as though Roman’s arms were a warm bed at the end of a long day. It didn’t matter that they had been together for six years, and had been engaged for eight months—Roman doubted that the novelty would ever wear off.
But that wasn’t the matter at hand—and, for a moment, they stood in comfortable silence, staring out at the streets of San Francisco below them. The evening was warm, and the gentle breeze that lifted Roman’s hair smelled of spring rain and dumplings, as there was a Chinese restaurant right next to their apartment building. Roman felt as though he could stay like that forever—holding his fiancé, watching the ever-changing cityscape, and listening to the sounds of all of the lives taking place around them. But Roman could see the longing in Logan’s face, as subtle as it was; Logan had always loved the night sky, had studied and charted it with a sparkling passion. He adored their life in the city, of course—they were both akin to people-watching, and he found comfort in being just another face in a crowd, but Roman knew that a small part of Logan yearned for the sky and its wonders.
So Roman quickly kissed his jawline, let go of Logan, and said, “Then let’s go see some stars.”
Logan looked at him quizzically. “We live in the middle of a city, Roman. It’s highly improbable that there are any good places for stargazing nearby.”
Roman shrugged, already by the door, pulling on a knit cardigan. “Are you coming or not?”
Logan hovered by the window, mouth slightly ajar and brows knit together. Roman knew that his fiancé wasn’t one for spontaneity, but Roman himself was, and Logan never seemed to mind. Especially not when the spontaneous plan in question involved a stargazing date.
And so, after a moment, Logan joined him by the door, shrugging on his own light jacket—after all, April nights are fickle, weather-wise—and muttering something about how there were still dishes waiting to be washed, piled high in the sink.
He stopped his fussing when Roman looped their fingers together, though, lapsing into silence and staring down at their joined hands. If somebody didn’t know Logan, they would likely misinterpret his expression as apathy, indifference—but Roman did know Logan, and was intimately familiar with his facial patterns. He recognized the way that the seemingly ever-present crease between his brows faded, the way it does when he finds something particularly captivating, and he noticed the way his lips parted ever so slightly—as if the thing that has captured his attention has bewitched him so thoroughly he forgot to close his mouth.
No, Roman knew that face, and recognized it for what it was—wonder. Familiarity. Fondness.
It was enough to make Roman surge up and press a brief kiss to his lips, pulling back before Logan even had time to register it, then squeezing his hand and leading him out the door.
Admittedly, it had taken longer than Roman had anticipated to find a place suitable for stargazing. Despite Logan’s warning, he had assumed that there would be someplace close by that would do the trick, but every place he found he deemed completely unacceptable for a date.
Curse Roman and his romantic sensibilities.
They had been driving for over an hour now—the stars were certainly visible at this point, but Roman had insisted on not stopping until he had found the perfect location.
Logan had dozed off in the passenger's seat, snoring lightly. The only sounds in the car for a while were the soft crooning of Frank Sinatra singing “Fly Me to the Moon” on the radio (since Logan was asleep, Roman had no qualms about putting it on), and Logan’s snores.
He heard Logan shift a bit when the car finally slowed to a stop.
“Lo,” he said, gently nudging him. His fiancé stirred again, opening his eyes and looking at Roman blearily, as if his brain was slowly turning back on. Roman smiled softly and pressed a kiss to his forehead. “Hey there, Lo,” he continued, softly rubbing his shoulder. “We’re here.”
Logan blinked at him, once, twice, his sleepy brain clearly trying to remember where it was that they were headed. And all of a sudden, it was as though somebody had flicked the lights on inside Logan’s head, and he leaned forward to peer up through the windshield.
“Where are we?” He asked without looking at Roman, too focused on the sky above. Roman laced their fingers together and kissed the back of Logan’s hand.
“Let’s go and see.” And with that, he released Logan’s hand and opened the car door.
Roman had parked the car on the side of a mountain; the world looked wide open from all the way up here, as if somebody had taken the lid off. The air smelled fresh from spring rain, all the world recently washed clean. Lush mountains rose up all around them, brilliant greens and blues even in the dark.
And there were stars, so many stars.
Logan gaped, head tipped back to marvel at it all. Roman beamed, spreading his arms wide, gesturing to all of it. “Well?”
And Logan looked at him, mouth ajar, eyes wide, and for a moment, the only sounds around them were the faint chittering of insects, distant birdsong, and the rustling of trees.
And then Logan surged forward and kissed him, cupping either side of his face. Roman startled for just a moment, but then he melted into it, one hand gently resting at the nape of Logan’s neck, the other on his cheek. Roman adored it when Logan was like this; usually a stoic pillar, cold and aloof to the rest of the world, but for Roman, just for Roman, he opened up, all light and warmth and love.
And Roman didn’t think he’d ever be able to get over that.
Logan pulled away, wide grey eyes staring at him in wonder. “It’s...wonderful,” he said, eyes drifting to the tree-covered mountaintops, up to the wide open sky filled with stars, and back to Roman. Logan’s face was filled with pure adoration, and Roman’s heart did a flip in his chest because that look was directed at him. “Thank you, Roman.”
Roman laced their fingers together, rubbing gentle circles on the back of his hand with his thumb. “Of course, Starlight.”
And Logan smiled, and Roman’s heart soared, because he did that, he made Logan Winters smile, and oh god, he was so gone for this man.
A moment later, Roman retreated to the car, opening the back door and pulling out a blanket and some pillows.
And minutes later, they were on the roof of the car, curled up against each other, a blanket below them and a sky full of stars above them, and Logan softly pointed out every constellation in the sky.
Logan marveled at the stars, and Roman marveled at Logan.
And they ate the pizza that Roman had picked up on the way, half olives for Logan, half pepperoni for Roman, and Logan laughed at a joke that Roman had made, and Roman asked him questions about space, and the stars twinkled down at them from high, high above.
And at the end, they put their blankets and pillows back into the backseat and piled back into the car, and Logan leaned over the stick shift and kissed Roman again, and Roman smiled, and they began their drive back home.

A Hordak birthday fic
word count: 1.8k
(Please read on mobile to avoid awakward paragraph division, not necessary but highly advised :'>)
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
(Set after season 5)
"Hey Hordak?" Entrapta loudly called from the other side of her lab, her voice slightly muffled by her mask.
Hordak's ears perked up as he raised his gaze from the small piece of machinery he was currently in the process of reassembling. "Hmm?"
"When's your birthday?" Entrapta said, her attention still on the current project she was working on, tinkering with a sensor piece of a destroyed Galactic-Horde surveillance bot.
The question took Hordak by surprise. Why would she ask that all of a sudden? Why was the topic of birthdays even on her mind in the first place? It certainly could not be her birthday today, could it? No, Hordak distinctly remembered her celebrations a relative short while ago. So why-
Hordak realized he probably took a little too long to think about it when Entrapta added.
"I'm sorry I've never asked this before". She put down the sensor piece on her work table and with a swift motion of her hair, she was already half-way across the lab, about merely 4 feet from Hordak.
"I know should've asked this ages ago, back at the Fright Zone, even, but I just never got around to it, and then everything with Beast Island happened, and then you were-" her voice sounded a bit stressed, as she was seeming to get a little more out of breath with each word she that came out of her mouth.
"Starlight, it's fine." Hordak stopped her mid-sentence and took a couple steps close to her. "There’s no need to apologise", he said with a small, reassuring smile.
"What got you thinking about this issue?"
Entrapta cocked her head to the side a little.
"Nothing in particular, really," she shrugged, "I've just been thinking about.. a lot, actually,"
Hordak chuckled. When was she not, he thought.
"And I realized we never celebrated your birthday, which seemed odd to me", she finished.
Hordak sighed. "I.." he took a short pause, "I do not have a birthday."
Entrapta quickly flicked her mask up with a tendril of her hair. "What?!" she gasped, "that's ridiculous! Everybody has a birthday! Even Imp!"
Imp was never intended to have a birthday.
Hordak only wrote down the date of his cloning for scientific research purposes and to keep track of his development.
That changed once Imp learned the concept of a birthday while spying on some Horde cadets.
Hordak ran his hand across his face with a long groan. "Imp does not count.” Hordak said with a sigh. “The only reason that rascal even has a birthday in the first place is because he realized that would earn him more attention and food."
Entrapta pouted. "Fine, then..” she paused for a moment, running her hands through the hair of her right ponytail, thinking. “Take Kadroh!” She exclaimed. “Even he has one! and he's a clone just like you!"
Hordak took a moment to think about that statement.
Back in the hivemind, the Galactic Horde clones never had the luxury of having a birthday. Hordak wouldn't really describe their creation as a "birth" in the first place, so calling that a birthday seemed illogical to him anyway.
Even Horde Prime himself never had a birthday, or anything similar to that. It's not like he needed a specific day to emphasize his presence and being when Hordak and the rest of the clones' entire lives were centered around him anyway.
"He does not count either. His birthday was given to him by you and your friends."
Entrapta’s brows furrowed. "Still! who said your birthday has to be your actual date of birth!" she said, her hair gesturing dramatically in the air as she's speaking. "Or, cloning, I guess, in your case. We can just find you a suitable date for that! You see it worked fine with Kadroh".
"Kadroh is a different case.” Hordak pouted and crossed his arms. “The date you chose for him is significant to him so it was fitting. I do not have such a date to my name."
Kadroh's given birthday was decided to be the date he got disconnected from the hivemind and joined the Etherians on their mission to beat Prime. To quote Kadroh, he felt like that was the day he was born again, the day he actually got to become a person of his own outside of Horde Prime’s shadow.
Entrapta raised an eyebrow in confusion.
“Um, what about the day you stood up against Prime? and.. declared your personhood? ‘I am Hordak and I defy your will’?” She quoted his speech to Prime, gesturing dramatically with her hair as if she’s holding an imaginative figure, mimicking the way Hordak was holding Prime while delivering his speech.
Hordak’s ears drooped. “Well..” his words started to stammer a bit. “That day is already declared as a holiday. I do not feel like it would be logical to add another celebration to such an already loaded date.”
While technically he was right, the day of Horde Prime’s demise was already declared as a holiday on Etheria, one of the most important ones even, Entrapta wasn’t buying his excuses.
“Why do I feel like you’re just avoiding having one altogether?” Entrapta said, raising an eyebrow at him. She raised herself on her hair to match Hordak’s eye level.
Hordak turned his head away as to avoid catching her eyes. “I.. do not feel like having an entire day centered around me would prove to be very productive.” He said quietly.
Worry spread across Entrapta’s face.
“Birthdays aren’t supposed to be productive, Hordak, they’re supposed to be fun!” She said with a smile. Seeing Hordak looking unconvinced, she took a couple of moments to think.
“Do you feel like my birthday is unproductive?” She simply asked.
Hordak instantly turned his look back to face her. “What? Why would I think such a thing?”
“Please elaborate.” Entrapta added.
“Of course your birthday is productive!” He replied within mere seconds. “It’s important to you and it makes you feel happy. By all accounts, that should deem it nothing but productive.”
“So would you agree that it only seems logical that I would want to see you just as happy?”
Hordak’s ears drooped as he tried to turn his head away once again, but a tendril of Entrapta’s hair stopped him as she grabbed him gently by the cheek and turned his look back to her.
Her touch on his cheek was as light as can be. She hadn’t actually grabbed him, but guided him to face her.
Hordak looked in her eyes for a quick moment before turning his look away again. He could feel the heat starting to creep up his cheeks.
“I.. I suppose it does.”
Entrapta moved a little closer to him and slowly placed her gloved hand on the purple crystal on Hordak’s chest, analyzing it with her eyes and tracing its carvings.
Hordak couldn’t fight the smile that managed to find its way to his face. He fully understood what she was getting at.
Carefully, he started moving his hand to put atop hers. He did so slowly partly out of uncertainty, but also as to give her enough time to move her hand away if she didn’t feel like being touched at the moment, but her hand kept steady as he placed his own on hers.
As Entrapta raised her gaze to look at Hordak, another tendril of her hair had almost subconsciously raised up and cupped Hordak’s other cheek. She was quick to turn her head away in embarrassment as her cheeks had almost instantly started to flush red, but Hordak only responded with a soft chuckle and a genuine smile, and leaning into her touch.
Entrapta slowly turned her head back to face Hordak and an instant smile spread across her face when she saw him looking so content.
They stayed like that for a couple more moments before her smile wore off a little when she started to speak. Her expression soft, but with a tinge of worry. “So, what do you feel?”
Hordak’s eyes focused on everything but her at that moment, lost in thought.
“I.. appreciate your thought and care. More than I could ever express. But I am not sure I am ready for these sorts of great celebrations of my own, yet. I don’t think having me at the center of attention would prove to be a good idea.”
Entrapta sighed. She looked a little bummed, but gave him an understanding smile nonetheless. “I’m not going to push you to do anything you don’t feel like. I just want to show you that the option is here if you ever feel like it, okay?”
Hordak smiled and squeezed her hand a little, their hands still on the crystal on his chest.
“And hey, no one said your celebrations have to be grandiose or anything.” Entrapta added. “It can be just us, if you’d like.”
Hordak’s ears perked up and he found himself blushing again.
Entrapta pulled herself back from Hordak’s touch and quickly dropped her mask down with her hair.
“Uh- I mean, a-and Kadroh and Imp and Emily too! of course!” She said in a quick pace, her words fumbling a little. “We wouldn’t want to leave them out of all the fun, right?”, she said, scratching the back of her neck.
Even though he couldn’t see her face, he could clearly imagine her blushing.
“You’re right”, he said with a soft chuckle.
Entrapta raised her mask with her hand to reveal her smiling a little, her cheeks just as bright red as Hordak imagined.
“Sooo….” Entrapta dragged out the word, “If you’re on board for a small celebration, nothing big, have you picked a date yet?” She said, tapping her two index fingers together in interest.
“I.. um,” Hordak started looking around as he was trying to think of something to say.
“It can be any date!” Entrapta said holding a finger up. “Anything that comes to mind, even today!”
Hordak’s eyes widened. Entrapta noticed and snickered quietly. “What d’you think of that?”
“It doesn't seem like a bad idea.” Hordak said.
“Mhm!" She nodded. "I know it’s not a notable day or anything, but…”
“It shall work”, Hordak said with a small smile.
“It’s a date!” Entrapta exclaimed happily and lifted herself up on her hair, shaking two balled up fists in excitement.
In a matter of seconds, Entrapta had already managed to perk herself up on her hair to Hordak’s face and kiss his lips. The peck only lasted a couple of seconds but was enough to manage to fluster Hordak, again. His ears drooped as they parted.
When he finally managed to get his eyes to focus again, he saw Entrapta smiling at him. “Happy birthday, lab partner”.
He tried to recollect himself to answer, unsuccessfully.
Entrapta replied with a small laugh, then abruptly stopped.
“Wait!” she exclaimed loudly. “I’ll go notify the kitchen crew, what flavour cake would you like? never mind, i’ll have them make a trayful of everything anyway, wait right here!”. And with a few quick swishes of her hair, she was already out the door.
Hordak was left standing alone in the lab, dumbfounded.
“Wait!”. But by the time he had managed to say something, she was already somewhere down the halls of the castle.
“Happy birthday, lab partner”, he replayed her words in his head. Thinking of her, her excitement, her words of encouragement, her kiss,
He was finally convinced it was going to be a good day.

“yeosang, hello,” jiyu peeked in with a smile and wave. behind her were four other hybrids. they peeked out from behind her and made eye contact with the fox hybrid.
yeosang waved back, suddenly feeling wary again with the new presences in the room, even if they were his own kind. maybe i’m more shy than i thought...
“just like i promised, i brought these four babies with me today,” she teased, earning a ‘hey!’ from mingi.
yeosang now understood why jiyu wasn’t so worried for the bunny hybrid as other people were; the bunny was at least six feet tall, towering above the other predator hybrids. except for the golden–retriever, he seemed to be the same height.
seonghwa slowly approached yeosang and stared at him. he’s heard so much about this fox hybrid being his “twin”, now he wanted to see for himself.
yeosang, on the other hand, remembered jiyu’s comment from the previous day about him being similar to the wolf hybrid. just how similar were they for her to associate them with each other?
the two tilted their heads in the same direction as they observed each other. both of their eyes widened and they pointed to each other. “you’re me,” they both said, before slapping a hand over their mouths. they both seemed so fascinated, and slightly terrified, that they were mirroring each other right from the getgo.
hongjoong, yunho, mingi, and jiyu watched the scene in awe. jiyu didn’t realize they were that similar. “pfft—” they all stifled their laughter.
the other three could now understand why jiyu called yeosang his twin by just looking at him. the two possessed the same intimidating face but once they opened their mouths, they were just soft little kids on the inside.
“a–are you sure you guys weren’t separated at birth?” yunho asked, trying to suppress his chuckles feom spilling out.
“i’m an only child, i swear!” they both shouted before staring at each other in awe once again.
jiyu couldn’t hold it in anymore and she burst out into laughter that brought a smile to everyone’s faces. “o–oh my god, t–this is priceless!” she managed to squeeze out in between her laughter. “i–i knew you guys were similar to a certain extent...b–but this blows my expectations!”
yeosang shyly scratched the back of his neck and looekd away; his cheeks and the tips of his human ears flushed pink. seonghwa mirrored his expression as he turned towards jiyu.
“j–jeez, it’s not that funny,” he mumbled, seeing the other three trying to suppress their chuckles and snickers as well.
“‘i’m an only child!’” hongjoong mimicked as he chuckled. “seems like you and the fox hybrid are soulmates at the moment.”
jiyu calmed down and took a few breaths to stabilize herself. “anyways, yeosang. that’s seonghwa. the tiger hybrid is hongjoong, the golden–retriever is yunho, and the bunny is mingi. they’re all my little fur balls.”
‘d–did she call is fur balls?’ the four sweatdropped as the same thought ran through their minds.
“guys, this is yeosang. remember to be careful if you play with him since his wounds are still healing,” she reminded them.
yeosang quickly glanced at hongjoong. he was always curious about the tiger hybrid from seojin’s stories. by the looks of it, he seemed like he was indeed thriving; the genuine smile said it all. as a matter of fact, all of their smiles spoke for them.
“ji,” yeonjun called as he poked his head into the room. “can you help me sort these papers? i need to process them into the system but they’re all mixed,” he asked, carrying in a three, thick folders filled with various documents.
“jeez, who hated you enough to give you that?” she joked, yelping when yeonjun poked her side. “i’m kidding, i’m kidding!” she chuckled. “yeah, i’ll help you. come in here.” she cleared the table so they could work on re–organizing the documents.
yeosang observed her from his bed, almost forgetting the presence of the other four with them.
“what are you thinking about?” yunho asked, making the fox hybrid flinch at the sudden reminder than he wasn’t alone.
“n–nothing...just...she’s really nice,” he mumbled, fidgeting with his fingers. “i was kind of mean to her the first few days but yet she still came back to talk to me.”
seonghwa nodded, stealing a quick glance at her as she flipped through the papers. “yeah...she didn’t give up on us either, no matter how violent or stubborn we were.”
“it’s her charm, though!” yunho piped up.
“yeah, but she’s too nice sometimes...she could end up helping the wrong people,” yeosang mindlessly mumbled. there were a lot of malicious people out there, there was always a possibility of it happening.
the four sweatdropped again as they remembered the various incidents of jiyu showing her “scary” side when it came to protecting the ones she loved; when she changed into a whole different person in front of yunho’s former owners, and when she tracked down mingi’s former owner and managed to retrieve his adoption forms.
“i–i don’t think we have to worry about that,” mingi sheepishly laughed as he rubbed the back of his neck.
yeosang didn’t question it. after all, he didn’t know her as well as they did.
“this might be an insensitive question,” hongjoong said from the window, “but where will you go after leaving here?”
yeosang grew silent at the question. truthfully, he didn’t even know himself. he could follow the facility protocol of having to be transferred to the adoption floor, and potentially finding a new family.
the only problem was...he couldn’t see himself with another family. it had taken him so long to trust jiyu, he didn’t want to imagine trying again with other people. he knew they’d grow impatient with his personality and just throw him out, heck, maybe even return him.
“...i’m not sure. probably just go with the flow and be put up for adoption.”
the four wordlessly glanced at each other. he didn’t sound convincing; rather, it sounded like he was convincing himself to go along with the facility protocol. seonghwa and hongjoong were in his shoes at one point.
seonghwa quietly sighed. “do you feel happy with jiyu?” he asked.
“...define happy,” yeosang mumbled, looking at each and every one of them. “is that how you all feel with her?”
yunho and mingi enthusiastically nodded. “she makes us feel all warm and fuzzy inside!” mingi declared. “it’s a really good feeling. i could never imagine someone else adopting me.”
“that’s one way of putting it,” hongjoong chuckled at the bunny hybrid before looking at yeosang. “but yes, it’s a warm feeling. she provides us with everything we all lacked in our previous homes,” hongjoong said, quickly peeking in jiyu and yeonjun’s direction. “it’s like...you feel safe around her. like nothing could ever hurt you again.”
and yeosang wasn’t going to lie. he did feel that. he felt all the warmness and fuzziness thst mingi described, he felt safe like nothing would harm him again; but most of all, he felt cared for. he felt appreciated.
his old owners only appreciated him for his monetary value, but with jiyu, he felt a different type of appreciation. like she cared about him for him; the fox hybrid that was shy around others, the fox hybrid that loved drawing little made–up characters called hehetmon.
“i think he found his answer,” seonghwa chuckled.
“what was the point in asking me all that?” he asked, raising an eyebrow. “to test me?”
yunho shoved a paper up to his face, making yeosang flinch and fall back into the bed. d–did i just flinch from paper? that’s a new low for me.
“yunho! be careful!” hongjoong quietly scolded the puppy.
“oops...sorry,” yunho sheepishly apologized before handing yeosang the paper instead. “this was all of our ideas!” he smiled.
yeosang read the contents of the paper and he almost made his heart rate monitor go haywire from the emotions he felt. the four panicked at the sporatic beeping sounds.
jiyu and yeonjun’s heads snapped up at the sound, concern written across their face. “what’s the matter, yeosang?” she asked, hastily approaching him. recognizing the form in his hands, she lightly gasped.
“well, this is awkward...u–um, you weren’t supposed to see that yet—”
the four sheepishly looked to the ground. had they messed up?
“c–can i really?” yeosang quietly asked, his eyes never leaving the paper. “can–can i really go home with you?”
in his hands was yet again, another filled out adoption form.
seeing the form was the final push for him, the final piece of the puzzle. that he really did feel happy with jiyu. and that he was hesitant about being adopted by other people because he was so used to jiyu’s presence around him. like mingi had said, he couldn’t imagine being adopted by anyone else.
jiyu gently smiled. “i didn’t want to force it onto you so i never said anything,” she explained before putting a hand in his head. “but we all discussed about it two nights ago about bringing you home with us. although, after today,” she playfully glared at the four hybrids were peeking out from behind yeonjun, “i think they grew a little impatient about bringing the topic up.”
yeosang felt a rush of emotions. maybe fate really did feel bad for him and decided to not throw him under the bus. maybe fate really was nice, after all.
“i–if it’s not too much trouble,” he shyly mumbled, “th–then i accept your offer,” he said, a small smile spreading across his face. jiyu smiled back; this was the first time she’s seen him smile.
“seonghwa’s twin’s coming home!” hongjoong jokingly declared, patting seonghwa’s back. yunho and mingi cheered along.
seonghwa sighed, but no one could deny the smile he was trying to hide. “i’m not going to try.”
yeonjun looked back. “so how long am i going to be used as a shield?”

Winter Dance - Katsuki Bakugou x Reader
Tumblr media
DISCLAIMER: I DO NOT OWN ANY OF THESE CHARACTERS, THEY BELONG TO KOHEI HORIKOSHI
DAY TEN OF 25 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS - 25 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS MASTERLIST - MAIN MASTERLIST
Starlight seemed to twinkle at every angle you gazed. It was incredible, really, how the staff was able to transform the cafeteria. Gone were the long lunch tables and potted plants - silk draped circle stands lined the perimeter and in the center was open for dancing.
“Wow, isn’t this incredible!” Mina gushed, clutching onto your arm. You laughed and nodded, still too much in awe to form words. However, the girl next to you was full of them. As energetic as ever, the pink haired girl flitted around, greeting everyone in her vicinity and you giving them a nod and a smile. You were glad to have Mina as a friend - she was able to break you out of your shell the moment she met you, giving you the confidence to be unapologetically yourself in all situations you were in. She also introduced you to Katsuki Bakugou. He couldn’t have been more different than most of the boys you usually pined after - a stubborn guy with even more stubborn hair and a person who seemed to always wear an annoyed expression. Something about him, however,  just seemed to take hold of your heart and not let it budge.
“Hey Y/N! You look great!” A friendly voice stirred you from your thoughts. Kirishima was giving you a wide toothy grin. You beamed back at him and swished your dress a little, watching the material fold and fall over itself.
“Thanks Kiri -  you as well! I like the tie.” You respond. He did look good, it was true - Mina thoroughly confirmed that notion by giving him a kiss on the cheek. They matched perfectly - your best friend was wearing a beautiful strapless dress that was light blue in color and made of tulle. Kirishima, ever the gentleman, matched his tie color and even the pattern, both of them having little flowers dotted all over. The three of you talked for a little while - small comments about the gorgeous decorations, fun anecdotes, and what they were planning on doing for Christmas. Just as your little group was about to grab some punch, a slow and sweet melody flooded the speakers, prompting couples to take to the middle of the dancefloor. You saw Mina and Kirishima look to each other and back at you, giving you an apologetic look. You gave them a silly look and pushed their backs toward the dance floor.
“You two didn’t come here to just hang out with me, go dance! I know you’ve been waiting all night.” You grin. They return your smile and Kirishima takes Mina’s hand, twirling her around once before they settle into a swaying rhythm. You watch them for a few minutes before you feel a sinking feeling in your heart. Yes, you’ve been talking to your friends all night, but you’ve also been keeping an eye out for the blonde-haired hero in training your heart was set on. Your vantage point finally allowed you to survey the entire room which proved the discouraging thought that lingered in your mind. He didn’t show up, you thought. Sighing you glance to one of the doors. This conjured a mental battle in your head. Do you leave? Is it even worth it? As much as you wanted to stay and have a good time, all you had to do was take a look at the center of the dance floor to make up your mind. Seeing happy couples spin, dance, and laugh made your heart ache - this wasn’t something that would be happening tonight.
“I just need some air,” you mumble, weaving through bystanders near the wall. You didn’t realize how stuffy it was in that room - you guessed all of those people plus dancing would fill the room’s atmosphere.
The large windows were something that had drawn you to UA. While it wasn’t the most practical thing to think of when applying to high school, you thought it was a nice touch. You could practically see for miles through them. Rubbing away the condensation, you saw the city in the distance. The colored lights from cars and skyscrapers lit up its surroundings, casting a wondrous glow to the streets and apartment buildings. Just beyond the campus you could spot the cherry blossoms covered in snow - the light pink blossoms blanketed by the heavy layer of white. And up close were the detailed patterns of the paths and foliage that accented UA so well. You could even make out the colors of the flowers. One blue, those two a light yellow, one red and- Bakugou? You rubbed your eyes to see that, yes, the blonde was really outside in the cold wearing a suit and tie. Without thinking, you ran down the steps to the door that opened up right next to him. With a shove, the door creaks and a rush of wind blows by you. Katsuki jumped a bit in surprise, his eyes widening as he saw you.
“What are you doing here?” He inquires, eyebrows narrowing. You brush a stray piece of hair away from your face and shoot him a confused look.
“I saw you from the window?” You said, pointing up to the glass pane. “I saw you out here and was wondering what you were up to.” He rolls his eyes and kicks some snow with his polished black dress shoe.
“No, seriously, what are you doing here.” He says flatly. “Why aren’t you at the dance thing.” He gestures to your floor length dress, the end of which was currently getting damp by the snow.
“I needed some air,” you say quickly, remembering that technically he was the reason you stepped out in the first place. “What about you?” Katsuki scoffs and tugs on the collar of his shirt.
“Like I’d go to a dance - they’re idiotic.” You frown at his wording but speak up anyways.
“Well, you’re certainly dressed for one - unless this is your usual Saturday night attire?” You ask, motioning to his suit and slacks. They even looked newly ironed. Realizing that you caught him, you grinned and stepped closer to him. “You can tell me Bakugou, you know I’m not one to judge.” He sighs and turns his back to you. Thinking that he was just going to ignore you, you exhale sadly and turn back towards the door, ready to go back into the warm building. However his voice, soft as velvet, found you.
“I dunno how to dance.” Stopping in your tracks, you twisted around to look at him, your dress swishing with you. “How was I supposed to ask you to dance if I can’t do it properly, dammit?” He confesses. It was as if Cupid himself had notched his arrow and aimed perfectly for the square in your back. You were ready to squeal and jump, but what Bakugou needed right now wasn’t you being giddy about his confession. He needed you to take charge of the situation.
“We can do it here.” You suggest, grabbing his hand. He finally turns back to face you, some red flashing on his cheeks. You knew if you commented on it he would blame it on the nippy weather, so you let it slide.
“In the snow? Are you serious?” He says, almost laughing at your suggestion. You simply nod, guiding one of his hands to your waist and the other into yours. You settle your right hand onto his shoulder and smile.
“Yeah, in the snow. Besides, the stars out here,” you say, looking up to the sky, “are much more realistic than the ones in there.” He nods stiffly and waits for you to make the first move. Stepping forward with your right foot he steps back. You lead him through a simple box step, and for someone who didn’t know how to dance, he caught on perfectly. Like everything that challenged him in life, he grew more confident in his motions. He surprised you with spins every now and again, always earning a laugh. Flurries began to fall as you danced but neither of you seemed to care.
“Bakugou,” You say softly as he spins you again.
“Katsuki,” he corrects, earning a shy smile from you.
“Katsuki,” you laugh, “the reason why I wasn’t at the dance and why I got some air was because you weren’t there.” The boy in front of your smirks and then dips you, your weight now fully supported by him. No words came from his lips, instead, they met your own. They’re softer than you would’ve imagined. It lasted for only a couple seconds but you couldn’t complain - it was perfect. No more words were spoken between you that night - you just danced and danced, your head now resting on his shoulders. Even when the event indoors came to an end you didn’t stop. It was just you and Katsuki and the snow, swirling and spinning in unison... and Mina and Kirishima, watching from the windows, thankful that their two friends finally got together.

- Part 1 -
Northern Suburbs, temporary base for STF.
Days of natural disasters have raised the disaster prevention alert of Loveland City by several levels.
In order to deal with the doomsday, all countries in the world have established doomsday rescue operations headquarters, and jointly formulated a number of rescue policies.
The last issue of "Miracle Finder" is to record the scenes of these soldiers fighting against disasters in the doomsday.
The car stopped at the base station gate, and I got out of the car with camera crew.
In the empty wilderness, several special officers in white uniforms patrolled the surrounding area.
According to the forecast, a tornado is about to hit Loveland City, and the STF troops will be here to stop the crisis.
Minor: Brother, where did your commander go?
STF Officer : Commander is very busy, and has no time to see you.
Minor: Hey, we are...
MC: Hello, we have made an appointment for an interview, can you let us in?
The officer looked suspiciously at the press card hanging around my neck.
STF Officer: You are waiting here, I will confirm it.
Eli: She doesn't need to make an appointment.
STF Officer: Captain Eli!
Eli walked leisurely with his hands in his pockets, and nodded at me.
Eli: MC, long time no see.
He looked at the serious-faced officer again.
Eli: Do you know who she is?
The officer looked at me and then at Eli, with a suddenly realized expression.
STF Officer: Eh, she is Commander's...
I slapped awkwardly, blocked the officer's unfinished words first.
MC: If it is not convenient, let's go back first.
Eli: There is nothing inconvenient. By the way, do you need me to help you call Gavin?
MC: No need! I don't want to interfere with your actions.
Eli: Then don't bother, you are free.
Eli: However, according to forecasts, there will be less than five minutes before the tornado enters the area of the city.
Eli: You'd better shoot near here, don't get close to the edges of those wind barriers.
MC: I understand!
Eli's remarks made everyone start scrambling to set up shooting equipment.
The wind became louder and louder, and a large funnel-shaped cloud soon appeared on the horizon, so gloomy that almost covered the entire sky.
Minor: I heard that the central wind speed of a tornado can reach 200 meters per second, which means that it will blow us away with people and machines in five minutes...
Willow: Close your crow's mouth.
Minor: Hey, I haven't finished speaking yet. With Bro Gavin, there is nothing to worry about.
The film crew quickly set up the machine, ready to start filming the entire process of STF team repelling the tornado.
After a while, the circular wind barrier erected all around shook violently, the surrounding trees were rustling.
A thick black shadow appeared at the end of the horizon, hurriedly approaching here.
The tornado is coming.
Photographer: Producer, the wind and sand are too big, it is difficult for us to get close to shooting!
MC: Let me find a way.
I thought for a while and took out the portable DV machine from my bag.
Just now Eli has divided the safety range for us. As long as we do not exceed that range for shooting, there should be no problem.
The violent wind that came in on the verge of blowing in the gap made the gap bigger, many of the team members who were in the front were injured.
STF Officer: The wind is too strong, we can't approach from the inner wall!
Anxious shouts from the STF members came from afar, and everyone present couldn't help but grab their hearts.
A calm and cold voice came from the communicator.
Gavin: I will go.
It's Gavin.
I resisted the urge to scream, my eyes and the camera stared at the distant sky unblinkingly.
The shifted wind barrier was quickly pushed back to its original position by another strong wind, and returned to the array.
The wind weakened, the tornado gradually deviated from its path.
Everyone waited nervously, and a few minutes later, the shadow of the tornado disappeared without a trace on the horizon.
Photographer: Amazing!!
MC: Gavin, you are so handsome!
Several injured officers were quickly taken away by the resident doctor, and I nervously searched for Gavin on the court.
From a distance, I saw a familiar figure approaching me.
My eyes lit up, and I ran towards him without hesitation.
MC: Are you okay? Isn't it hurt?
A look of helplessness passed across Gavin's face, he stretched out his hand, help me straighten my hair.
MC: What you looked like just now...
"Gavin, you are so handsome!"
At some point, my hand accidentally pressed the play button of the video just recorded, and the sigh was recorded verbatim into the screen.
MC: …When editing, this sentence will be deleted.
A smile finally appeared on his stern face.
Gavin: Wait here, I’ll come to you later.
.
- Part 2 -
STF Officer A: When Commander was still tasked as B-7, we have heard his rumors.
STF Officer A: Whether it is natural or man-made disasters these days, we can survive it, thanks to his judgment and decision-making.
STF Officer B: Yes, everyone was injured in the last rescue. Thanks to Commander, the situation was stabilized and the casualties were avoided.
STF Officer B: …But after returning, he formulated more stringent training plan.
MC: I see...
MC: Is there any moment when Commander makes you feel particularly tender?
The young officer in front of me "umm" for seven full seconds, and finally shook his head.
STF Officer A: More like medical insurance, count it?
Gavin: You seem to be very free.
Gavin stood behind us at some point, his voice cold.
STF Officer A: Commander!
The two STF members who were still babbling a while ago immediately stood up, saluted to Gavin together.
MC: .....
I turned around with a guilty conscience and looked at Gavin in front of me. When I looked down, I noticed that his wrist under his cuff was wrapped in gauze several times.
He just left temporarily, so he should simply treat the wound.
The crowd scattered like birds and beasts, soon only I and Gavin were left.
Gavin: What happened just now?
MC: Well... I just want to interview STF's recent work routine.
Gavin: I'm not asking about that. Your actions just now were dangerous.
MC: I said hello to Eli, and confirmed that I was in the safe zone!
I vowed to raise my hand, swear in my ear. Gavin's serious expression finally eased a little.
Looking at Gavin, I remembered all the rumors I had heard from the officers, their respectful and scared look, I couldn't help but laugh.
Gavin: What are you laughing at?
MC: Nothing, I was thinking about the last issue of "Miracle Finder", would you like to give a personal interview as Commander...
MC: But I'm just kidding, if it bother you, forget it.
Gavin: It's not bother.
His gaze moved down, and he scanned the line of drafted titles on the open page of the notebook in my hand.
Gavin: "The Commander's outside and inside". Do you want to know the outside, or the inside?
I smiled awkwardly, and the corners of Gavin's lips raised slightly.
Minor: Bro Gavin! Are you OK!
A noisy voice came from behind, Gavin glanced back and frowned quickly.
I don't know when Minor ran over, but he was dragged out by Willow before he finished speaking.
After both of them left, the surrounding area became quiet again.
Gavin: It's too noisy here. Let's change place.
I nodded and walked out of the base with Gavin.
***
A whistling wind came from the sinkhole in the distance, and a shallow layer of rain accumulated on the ground, reflecting the clear night sky and a little bit of starlight.
I followed the arched ridge all the way forward and photographed the traces of the tornado, asking Gavin one after another.
MC: I listened to Eli...
MC: NW put all its forces into establishing an airtight underground base, and didn't join your joint rescue...
Gavin: They aren't upside down.
Gavin: As long as that day doesn't come, STF won't give up protecting everyone here.
His tone is very flat, but it makes people feel extremely reliable.
I thought about it, and re-adjusted the DV mode, aiming at Gavin.
MC: Next, I will start an official interview.
Gavin: …Why do you want to give me an interview.
MC: Because you are the Commander of STF, what you say is the most convincing.
This interview is a temporary motive. I was not prepared for the question, so I just asked what I thought.
MC: The first question: What is the most important thing for the commander at the moment?
Gavin: Protect everyone's safety, and prevent disasters from happening.
MC: The second question: The commander felt that in this situation, for every citizens, what is the most important thing?
Gavin: This is varies from person to another.
…This minimalist way of answering questions, it's really Gavin's style.
MC: The third question...
Suddenly, the flapping sound of bird wings interrupted my question, and large swarms of pigeons started to start from deep in the woods.
MC: That is...
Gavin raised his head, looking solemnly at the flock of white pigeons in the sky.
Gavin: The abnormal weather in the past few days has caused the magnetic field in the vicinity to be disordered, and the return route of the pigeons has also been affected.
In the deep night, the pigeon flock wandered anxiously over the woods, flapping its wings constantly, as if calling for the return of their companions.
However, after the tornado struck, many birds were injured or died, and white feathers were scattered everywhere on the ground.
Several faint calls came from the bushes not far away.
Gavin and I approached and found two injured pigeons
One of them was badly injured, and dying; the other was still struggling.
MC: Will they die?
Gavin didn't speak, and rescued the two pigeons from the strange orange bushes, with a little blood stained on their messy wings.
It seemed to be frightened, its body trembling, and the warning sound of "cooing" as soon as we approached.
MC: Great, it seems okay!
Gavin: Be careful, don't get hurt by them.
Gavin: This is a wild pigeon that has not been domesticated, and is very wary of humans.
Gavin avoided the beak pecked by the pigeon, picked it up and checked it.
Gavin: No injuries.
The pigeon struggled to escape from his palm.
MC: Do they continue to fly forward?
Gavin made a soft "Mm" sound.
Gavin untwisted the withered grass entangled in its ankles, and another small gust of wind rolled up in his palms, drying its wet wings.
Gavin: If the wings are not wet, the flight home can be easier.
Its eyes rolled steadily, as if understanding the intention of Gavin, obediently gave up the struggle.
Perhaps after waiting too long, the group hovering in the sky gradually moved away, flying behind the invisible gray sky.
MC: Can this pigeon find its friends?
Gavin: Difficult.
MC: I see...
Gavin seemed to notice my loss, and changed his words.
Gavin: But it is not impossible.
Gavin: The migration of pigeon, is actually a story about commitment.
MC: Committed?
Gavin: Fulfill their promise to go back.
Gavin: No matter how far you fly, you will definitely arrive where you want to fly as scheduled.
The pigeon in his palm seemed to sense Gavin's words and tried to wave its wings again.
The small gust of wind gradually increased, escorting this child to the sky.
Soon, it struggling to flap its wings forward, disappearing into the night sky and the end of the stars.
MC: In fact, whether it is them or the wind, they all know their direction.
MC: Even if it takes a long time to walk, even if it will go away, it will not stop.
MC: Is that right?
Gavin didn't speak, but gently held my hand.
At this time, a few STF members came towards us, saluted to Gavin, and solemnly reported the situation of the other bases.
Gavin's face was always calm, as if no matter what kind of danger he encountered, he would not have the slightest panic.
MC: Is there another task?
I couldn't help but whisper to Eli, who was beside me, and he nodded.
Eli: I heard that there was a violent conflict in the city, and the situation is not very optimistic. They have to come to support tonight.
MC: I see... thank you very much.
Eli: Don't worry, Gavin will stay in Loveland City to lead. He is the backbone of all of us.
I'm a little embarrassed to be guessed by Eli.
Eli: But we have to rush to deal with a flood tonight. The disaster is dangerous, so you can't follow.
MC: I know, you guys must come back safely.
The bonfire ignited at the distant base dispelled the darkness, and the constantly rising tongue of fire brightened the night sky red, and occasionally there were a few crisp clashes of wine glasses and laughter.
This temporary celebration and happiness seem extremely precious on such a night.
I involuntarily rubbed my palms tightly, and some hope that the "moment" in that prophecy would come soon.
No matter where I go or what I experience, it would be great if I could reverse the ending.
After the officers reported, Eli stepped forward and said something to Gavin, patted him on the shoulder, and suddenly looked at me again.
Eli: I'll leave first, and meet again later, the young couple get along well.
Eli left after speaking, waved goodbye to me before leaving.
There was a brief silence all around, only cheers from afar broke the silence between us.
MC: Are you leaving now?
Gavin: Mm, we will leave in two hours.
I stepped forward, took his hand gently, and sat down on a rock.
The wind in the wilderness is blowing on the long stretch of grass in the distance, and there is a green smell in the darkness that fluctuates with the night.
MC: Then you need a good rest now.
MC: I wonder if Mr. Commander, who has been busy all day, is willing to agree to my request.
Gavin: Can I take a rest?
I was stunned by him, after a few seconds, I didn't expect Gavin was directly rest on my knee.
Gavin: Thank you for coming.
MC: ...You're welcome.
I opened my mouth again, trying to remedy my stupid answer, but Gavin had already closed my eyes.
For a long time, long and even breathing sounded from my knees.
This land is shrouded in night and cold, but my heart is very bright and warm at this moment.
I gently stroked his finally showing tired eyebrows, my heart soft.
MC: Thank you for the hard work, Gavin.
I hope you can also have a good dream.
.
- Part 3 -
In the vast expanse of the universe, a swarm of comets quickly fell to the blue planet.
Cities, forests, mountains, rivers and oceans were all engulfed by heat waves and tongues of fire, and vanished in the blink of an eye.
It seems that I am the only one left in the whole world, and the stars gradually shrink, hitting my heart like a burning bullet hitting the bullseye---
I woke up from the nightmare and took a deep breath.
Gavin: Woke up?
MC: I'm sorry... I fell asleep too.
I raised my head, met Gavin's worried eyes.
Gavin: Had a nightmare?
MC: Not a manifest dream, but a sweet dream.
MC: I dreamt that we became super cosmic warriors, saving the world from the brink of destruction.
I cheered up, and made a joke pretending to be relaxed.
Gavin: It seems that dream should be kept longer, it is best not to wake up.
He sighed, and gathered the jacket over me again.
There are footsteps approaching behind him.
When Gavin got up, the officer came over and whispered something to Gavin.
I was stunned, and quickly reacted: He is going to the next temporary base to command the mission.
MC: Are you leaving soon?
Gavin: There are still ten minutes left.
MC: Then I have one last question to interview you.
I turned around, fixedly looked at Gavin.
MC: Before the end, what is your wish?
Gavin: ...My wish?
MC: This is the question I want to ask you, so you can answer me alone.
MC: I have interviewed many people these days, and heard many people’s wishes, but I haven't had a chance to ask your wishes.
MC: I want to know what Gavin's wish is.
Gavin's expression was a little surprised, and he didn't speak for a long time.
Perhaps, this question is too vain and slow, he never put his wishes on unrealistic things.
???: Look, there are meteors!
The cheers of the crowd came from far behind, and Gavin and I raised our heads together.
The sky was passing by a meteor, dragging a bright trail, from loneliness to grandeur.
Under this bright and grand light, everything becomes small and quiet.
MC: Beautiful...
The falling trajectory of the meteor is long and narrow in the night sky.
The ubiquitous light illuminates the mountains and valleys in the distance, the river at the end of the horizon, and the city.
It also illuminates every face looking up on the earth.
Gavin suddenly grabbed my hand, his voice was very soft.
Gavin: When I was seventeen, I did have a wish.
Suddenly a large swarm of snow-white flew across the sky.
The flying dove in the dark night fluttered its wings and dropped a large piece of white feathers, drowning his voice.
I looked up in a different place, saw his star-lit eyes, and wanted to ask him what it was.
He looked at me with a deep retention and sadness. I always felt, that there were many emotions that I didn't understand.
In a second of distraction, I almost blurted out if he knew that I was going to leave.
But I didn't have the courage to speak up to verify this conjecture.
I grabbed his hand and tried to make a smile.
MC: I used to see meteors and could only think of wishing. I didn't expect that one day the meteors would actually destroy the world.
Gavin: Are you scared?
I shook my head.
MC: In fact, as long as I'm by your side, I'm not afraid at all.
Tumblr media
Gavin lowered his head and put the kiss on our folded hands.
Gavin: I promise you.
Gavin: I won't leave you, until the last moment.
I heard his heartbeat on his chest, closed my eyes, and silently made a vow to the meteor.
May the world never end.
May he always be by my side.
.
- Part 4 -
The news broadcast the arrival time of the X1917 comet cluster, as expected, without any change.
As a commander, Gavin became more and more busy, and the occasional time together became exceptionally short.
Today, the STF is holding a major meeting.
Those present were all commanders from various countries' combat headquarters participating in this joint doomsday rescue.
After the meeting, I put down the interview draft and couldn't help but look at the meeting room.
Gavin came out last, and he was talking to a foreign man with a high nose and deep eyes.
The man seemed to notice me waiting on the side, he turned to me, his face stretched.
Foreign Commander: Eh, you are the producer. I have watched your show, Miracle Finder, which is great.
He gave me a thumbs up.
MC: ...Thank you!
I can't fully understand their small talk. I can only vaguely hear the commander's admiration and gratitude to Gavin.
After the conversation, he saluted to Gavin, and then left with his men.
I couldn't wait to walk to Gavin, wanting to open my mouth, but hesitated again.
The news specially told him today, perhaps compared with the important news he comes into contact with every day, is nothing at all.
Gavin: What's wrong?
MC: Gavin, I have good news for you.
MC: After the previous program was broadcast, some citizens contacted us and wanted to send you a loving lunch, medical supplies, and...
I counted the enthusiastic letters I received these days with my fingers. He listened carefully, his lips curled up unconsciously.
Gavin: STF doesn't need these for the time being, but it can be sent to disaster areas with more dangerous conditions.
Gavin: You can figure it out. I'll give you some addresses later.
MC: Okay!
Gavin's gaze flickered slightly, as if he had to say something, the communicator on his waist ticked.
Gavin: ...Wait for me.
MC: It's okay, go ahead.
I cheered up and bid farewell to Gavin, but the loss of separation was still unstoppable in my heart.
I let out a sigh of relief and began to think about how to arrange these supplies.
This time we are, fighting side by side with all mankind.
***
The last day of the countdown.
The days of waiting regretfully finally arrived, but it seemed to be no different from usual.
MC: How is the situation today?
STF Officer A: There were no casualties, and damaged communications and traffic are slowly recovering.
STF Officer B: That's right, Commander was not injured, so Sister-In-Law, don't worry.
MC: ...Okay.
While chatting, I looked around for Gavin's figures.
Soon, a figure dangled from behind the door of the headquarters.
Gavin, who had changed his uniform, walked towards me, the cuffs of the gray jacket were slightly rolled up, revealing a strong wrist.
At the moment when my eyes were facing each other, Gavin had already walked to me, and I was stunned for a second.
I raised my head and looked at him, as if I had guessed something in my heart.
Gavin: Come?
MC: You, there are no tasks today?
Gavin: I took half a day off.
MC: Eh....?
Gavin: I'll accompany you out for a walk.
Behind him, the whistle and the confession sounded one after another, Gavin faintly swept back, and the group of people suddenly made noise again.
MC: Is it really okay? I think it’s good to stay here...
Gavin took my hand and walked out. I turned around a little hesitantly, afraid that he would waste too much time.
Unexpectedly, Eli also waved at me and made a "rest assured" mouth shape.
Gavin: Leave them alone.
MC: I don't know why, but now I always have a feeling of occupying major public resources.
The corners of Gavin's mouth twitched slightly, and he looked at me helplessly, sighed.
Gavin: Can't the Commander go on a date after get off work.
He stood still in front of me, a little serious in his amber eyes.
Gavin: What stands in front of you now, it's Gavin that belongs to you only.
***
There was no one on the street, and the few shadows of trees stretched to the end of the empty road.
We unknowingly walked to the vicinity of Loveland High School and ate the last bowl of noodles at the still-open Lynn's Kitchen.
A live interview of STF to fight off the tornado is being broadcast on TV, and the boss exclaims while watching.
Boss: Did you really repel the tornado?
Gavin: Some news likes to exaggerate, you don't have to believe it.
MC: Gavin, this was taken by me.
Gavin: …Hmm, it was repelled.
Boss: Add more beef for you. Do you want other side dishes?
MC: I want it!
Gavin: Are you sure you can eat it?
MC: I'm able to eat it!
Gavin put down his chopsticks, looked at the side dishes on the table and the pile of beef in the bowl, he expressed doubts to me with his eyes.
MC: Is this a new flavor of noodles? It seems that I have never eaten it before.
Boss: Did little girl eat it? I updated the recipe of the soup. How does it taste?
MC: Super invincible and delicious!
Boss: That's good.
Boss: There are too many things that have been missed in a lifetime, and it's not worth beating.
Boss: However, it is still a pity that more people haven't tasted this bowl of noodles.
Boss: Thank you for finishing it.
***
MC: I'm so full...!
Gavin: You ate all the side dishes the boss gave.
MC: Because I don’t want to be a starving ghost...
Gavin: Nonsense.
Gavin gently knocked on my forehead, his eyes turned to the school gate across the road, his expression suddenly softened.
Gavin: You saved a cat here.
MC: You have beaten a few people here.
Gavin laughed.
Unexpectedly the school door closed tightly. Gavin noticed the loss on my face and patted my shoulder lightly.
Gavin: Do you want to go elsewhere?
MC: What a pity... I still want to go back and have a look.
MC: Wait, I get it!
***
Gavin: Are you sure you want to do this?
MC: No one, is afraid of anything!
With Gavin's help, I finally climbed the outer wall of the back door of the school.
MC: I wanted to do this a long time ago.
I clapped my hands, turned my head, Gavin was still standing under the wall, looking at me with a little speechless and a little funny.
MC: It doesn't matter, there is no one in the security room and no one in the school building. Come up soon.
Gavin touched his lips, with an expression of defeat by me.
He easily climbed up the wall and sat down beside me.
Gavin: Ready?
He seemed to see my hesitation and looked at me holding back a smile.
Gavin: I will count down for you?
This is the end of the matter, regret is useless. I took a deep breath and slowly released the fingers that were holding behind me.
Gavin: Three, two---
Before "One" hasn’t shouted out, I subconsciously let go of my hand because of tension, and my falling body was quickly surrounded by a gust of wind.
The violent heartbeat hit the tympanic membrane, and we landed safely on the ground.
MC: I didn't seem to have eaten so much just now.
Gavin: Can't walk anymore?
MC: ...I'm afraid you won't be able to hold it.
Gavin: Hold tight.
As if to verify this sentence, his hand pierced my knees and hugged me to the direction of the school building.
MC: But like this...!!
Gavin gently raised the corners of her lips.
Gavin: No one, is afraid of anything.
***
We came to Gavin's classroom.
The classroom door was not locked. I turned on the light, saw that the writing on the blackboard had not been cleaned.
MC: Gavin, which table is yours?
Gavin was a little surprised. He looked around and pointed to the back of the classroom by the window.
Gavin: There.
MC: Is this one?
I walked to the back of the classroom and stared curiously at the graffiti on this table.
MC: "Early" was carved upside down on the table,... I can't tell that you are quite easy to learn.
Gavin: …It’s the back one.
I followed Gavin's gaze and looked back. A desk was in the corner next to the wall.
MC: But after so many years, It must have changed many seats, and the table may not be this one.
I took the opportunity to sit down in the seat where Gavin had been, and looked around.
MC: Um... the vision from the blackboard is not very good.
MC: But the ventilation is good, it should be comfortable to sleep here in the afternoon.
I don't know if it was because of listening to my serious comments, there was a sporadic smile on his lips.
Gavin: Why are you talking about that suddenly?
MC: I told you before, we organized ordinary citizens and Evolver to build a wishing wall.
MC: I thought I would see a lot of fanciful and weird wishes, but after seeing it, I realized that this was not the case.
MC: "I want to eat hot pot for the last time", "Reunion with my family", "I want to reconcile with the lover who broke up"...
MC: That’s why I realized, everyone’s strongest wish is, actually a regret that has not been realized.
MC: That's why...
I want to make up for these regrets.
We left the classroom, and walked down the stairs. The sound of different footsteps echoed in the dim staircase.
Gavin: Are you scared?
MC: Hm?
Gavin: I remember many horror legends circulated in schools.
He slowed down as he spoke, always keeping a step away from me in front of him.
I hesitated for a moment and wanted to tell Gavin that I was not afraid.
In other words, I'm more afraid that the road under my feet will be finished soon than I'm afraid of these stories.
I hope the stairs below my feet can be longer, preferably without end.
MC: .....Gavin.
I stood on the edge of the steps, turned my head, and could not help calling his name.
A repressed impulse, drove me to do something.
He stood on a step lower than me, stopped, and looked at me with some doubts.
The few rays of light that leaked out of the window fell between us, cutting light and dark apart.
This light is like a crease, and I stand in front of him now, as if witnessing the folding of the years that have separated us.
Gavin: I know what you want to say.
His voice was lightened for an instant, with a sure smile.
The next second, he bent down, clasped my chin, and kissed me.
.
- Part 5-
The dim lights on both sides of the road passed through the dense leaves, scattered on the ground.
The library didn’t open, Gavin and I were strolling around the empty campus.
There seemed to be a warm touch remaining on the lips, I looked away pretending to be calm, always embarrassed to meet Gavin's gaze.
The bell rang in the distance, and the ginkgo leaves rustled down.
For a time, none of us spoke.
The meteors in the sky are getting denser, and my heart is beating faster and faster.
An uneasy premonition told me, that moment was approaching.
MC: Although shooting stars can be seen every day, it seems that many wishes are too late.
I pretended to smile with ease, breaking the deadlock between us. Gavin seemed to perceive something, and his amber-colored eyes looked at me.
Gavin: MC, You haven't finished what you just said.
Gavin: You keep asking about my wishes, what about yours?
MC: My wish...
My voice couldn't help but stop.
The ginkgo leaves on the branches are crumbling, and some are knocking on the windows of the school building behind them.
These leaves rustle on the branches in summer, and they creak when they fall in autumn. Every leaf makes a nice sound, but I have never noticed it.
I suddenly knew what my wish was.
I want to walk slowly at the school gate before the class bell rings.
I want to look up in the library and take a good look at the teenager sleeping opposite me.
I want to catch the wind at the age of seventeen, and say goodbye to him before the ginkgo leaves fall.
I looked up at Gavin, suddenly I wanted to cry.
MC: What if my wish will never come true?
Gavin was taken aback, for a long time, he rubbed the top of my head.
Gavin: Then go ahead.
Gavin: The wish that may not be reached now, but if you come back one day, it's already by your side.
I took a deep breath and grabbed his hand.
MC: Gavin, I am going to do something very important now.
MC: I kept busying myself a few days ago, thinking that if I didn't think about it, I wouldn't be sad until that time.
MC: But now I want to thank you, you gave me the courage to face it.
I felt like crying, but still managed to squeeze a smile.
MC: I'm leaving.
Gavin was silent, he gently stretched out his hand and stroked my face.
Gavin: I seem to be very bad at saying goodbye, and I have never been able to say goodbye to you every time.
Gavin didn't ask why or where I was going. He seemed to have known about this a long time ago.
Just hugged my arm hard and hot, as if to hold something at the last moment.
MC: This time it's my turn to say goodbye to you.
MC: We have experienced so many things, so this time is nothing.
I feel my body is getting lighter and lighter, and my limbs are gradually losing consciousness.
Perhaps that moment has come, my mind is getting harder and harder to concentrate, only vaguely seeing deeper and deeper sadness in my eyes.
Tumblr media
MC: You told me...
MC: Regardless of the wind, the pigeon has its own direction, and I think I should do the same.
MC: But I am a person who has no sense of direction. I may go the wrong way and it will take a long time to get back to you...
Tears still fell unconvincingly, I sucked my mouth and wanted to speak again, but Gavin interrupted my words firmly.
Gavin: It doesn't matter if you go the wrong way.
Gavin: It doesn't matter if you come late.
Gavin: When I was seventeen, you let me know the direction of the wind.
Gavin: So it’s the same for you, just walk in your direction, no matter where you lead...
Gavin: My wish, is to meet you.
The white light was like a trickle, slowly seeping from the girl's body, illuminating the whole night.
MC: When the time comes, please correct my direction.
Feathers fluttered slowly from the girl's body.
The sky seemed to show a gleam of light, and the wine fell on the white feathers piled up under the girl's feet.
Gavin stood there quietly for a long time, his eyes always on the place where the girl disappeared.
He looked at the feathers scattered on the ground and the ginkgo that was blown away by the wind, his lips moved slightly and his hands slowly dropped.
The clear and distant "ding dong" echoed in the empty campus---
The bell rang after class.

take a chance ~ jj maybank imagine
prompt request ~ angst ~ 1) you can’t do this, you owe me 2) how much did you drink? 3) i don’t need your pity
summary - you meet the boy of your dreams at a party, but your parents disapprove of your relationship. what happens when a phone call from them sends you into self destruct mode?
word count - 1.9k
trigger warnings ~ swearing, drinking/smoking, verbal ab*se from family member, happy ending
Kooks loved parties. Or, at least you were supposed to.
For whatever reason, the thoughts of the crowded house and cheap booze never was appealing to you, no matter how many times you pushed yourself into the scene. Eventually, you resigned from the parties at frats and packed mansions within Figure Eight, opting instead for the ones thrown on The Cut. The Boneyard made the perfect spot for summer parties, logs acting as benches, fires to keep warm, and no police caring enough to show up to kill the vibe. And of course, that was how you ended up meeting him. The boy with the sea glass-blue eyes, wavy blonde locks, and salty lips. He was the one who had found you resting in the sand with music playing softly from your little speaker as your eyes closed. You were a good distance away from your Kook friends and the rest of the party. He’d tapped your leg with the toe of his sneaker, giggling as you glared at him.
“Not much of a partier, aye?”
You sat up, annoyed. “No, I’m not. I’m not one much for having my quiet time interrupted, either.”
He sank to your level, sitting in the sand with his arm thrown over one knee with a joint in his hand. He twirled it for a few seconds before looking up to see you staring at him, a scowl having settled across your mouth. He laughed to himself as he looked in your eyes. “Well, I’m sorry about that. But do you mind if I lay here for a bit too? I’m I bit too faded to deal with anyone else right now.”
You thought for a second, before nodding slowly. “Alright, you can stay. On one condition, though. You share the weed.” JJ raised his brow at you. “I don’t like the taste of booze and I’m too jittery to calm myself down right now.”
“Alright. Say, your name is Y/N, right?” He asked as you took a drag of the blunt he’d just handed over. You nodded. “I’m JJ.”
You laughed a little bit. “You think I don’t know who you are? Really?”
He grinned, the dimple on one of his cheeks showing. “Ah, I figured. I just thought it would be a better story to tell people when they ask how we got together if I introduced myself first.” You rolled your eyes, taking another puff from the joint before laying back down against the sand. You tilted your head to look at him, watching as he turned up the volume on the speaker before following your actions, his head turned to meet your eyes.
“So I didn’t hear you disagree with me. About getting together eventually?” he smirked.
You sighed at him. “Maybe because I’d be dumb not to take a chance.”
JJ arched his eyebrows and let out a heavy breath, clearly thrown by your candor. “I don’t know that I’d be a good boyfriend to you. At least not the kind of good you’d deserve.”
You shrugged, “Me neither.” You were smiling as you turned your face back to the sky and closed your eyes. Your fingertips eventually finding their way to each other, twining your fingers with JJ’s as you were wrapped in the starlight and music.
After that night, the two of you had hardly been seen apart for the coming months. The relationship had blossomed quickly. Both of you had eventually moved into John B’s house to get away from your families, as your parents were none too happy that you were dating a Pogue. To your family, JJ was nothing but a throwaway delinquent.
“Why couldn’t you have stayed together with Kelce? Or go out with one of Sarah’s friends? Why did you have to pick the addict’s klepto kid?”
After that screaming match, you had shown up at John B’s in tears. He took you in without hesitation; since meeting him you two had formed something of a sibling bond. You had only gone back to your house once to grab your belongings with the Pogues escorting you. JJ never went back to his dad’s house. He always kept clothes in his knapsack, and he practically had an entire closet already set up at the chateau. There was no need to keep in touch with your families when you had each other.
Tonight was another one of the usual Pogue parties, them having taken hours to grab all of the kegs, cups, and matches they’d need for the night. Even though your boyfriend had invited you to come, you decided to stay in for the night. After he promised not to stay too late, you settled in with your Switch and some extra cozy blankets.
After hours of doing side quests and avoiding the Greybeards, you heard your phone ring. Grabbing it, you see the Caller ID. It was the one you hadn’t been able to bring yourself to block yet.
Dad.
Your hands shook as you swiped on the green circle, and you raised the phone to your ear. “Hello?”
“Hi, Y/N.”
You took a deep breath. “Why are you calling me? I thought you didn’t want a daughter who chose a Pogue?”
“I’m calling to tell you that you need to come home. You’re fucking up your entire life for some boy that won’t even care about you once the lust fades. I’m saying this because I love you, Y/N. You’re my daughter, and I want what’s best for you.” You felt a small boil of rage in the pit of your stomach as you listened to his words. His tone was the same one he’d used back when you were living at home. It was the tone of honey-sweet words that dripped with threatening undertones, the one he’d use to get you to do whatever he wanted. What he wanted was to make himself look good to outsiders; Nothing he asked of you was for your happiness.
“You don’t care about what’s right for me, dad, and you never did. If you did, you would accept me being with JJ, but you don’t. You don’t want me to be with him because you’re so goddamned worried about what the other families will think of you. I can’t believe you had the audacity to say you love me.” You felt hot tears slip from your eyes as you spoke and choked back the sobs trying to escape your throat.
“Listen, bitch. You’re lucky you’re eighteen, otherwise, I would have had you dragged back to the house the moment you left. You are the one who wrecked our family. You ruined my life, too, and I wish I would have left as soon as you were born, Y/N. This is all your fault. The locks are being changed tomorrow, got it? So don’t step a foot on my property, because you will be treated as a trespasser and you will be arrested. If you don’t come back tonight, you won’t have anyone who loves you anymore.”
“Fine. Don’t fucking call me again, bastard,” you spat as you hung up. You ran a hand through your hair while you let the sobs shake your body, letting all of your previously trapped emotions out. After a good forty-five minutes of nothing but crying, you had finally worn yourself out and slipped into sleep.
JJ walked into the Chateau as quietly as he could, only to find you asleep on the couch. He grinned as he walked over to where you were lying, moved your Switch and phone so they wouldn’t fall when you got up, and gently woke you. “Hey, baby.”
You groaned as you woke up, looking at the clock that read 3 am. “JJ, I thought you said you weren’t going to stay out late? And why do you smell like a distillery? How fucking much did you drink?” You were angry, and you were standing up now, face to face with your boyfriend. You felt the simmer in your stomach again, left over from earlier.
You’re not gonna have anyone who loves you.
“I’m sorry, Y/N, I just lost track of time. I tried to text you to tell you I was going to be late, but it wouldn’t send. And I only had one beer, I’m not even buzzed.” He looked at you with a grimace on his face. “What is going on with you?” He could just see the exhaustion rimming your eyes and the tear stains on your cheeks. “Are you okay, love? You look like you do when you’ve been crying.”
You shook your head, still furious from your conversation earlier. “No, I’m not okay. My dad called tonight to tell me I ruined his life and the family, and that no one will love me, including you,” you said bitterly. JJ reached to grab your hand as he opened his mouth to speak.
You pushed him away. “No. I don’t need your pity, JJ.” You turned on your heel to walk to your bedroom. “I needed you, and you weren’t here. You can’t do this, you fucking owed me that, JJ.” You knew you were being irrational, but you couldn’t help it. You were so hurt that you just wanted to hurt everyone around you.
He caught hold of your arm to turn you around with ease. You crossed your arms and glared daggers at the boy standing in front of you. “Y/N,” JJ sighed, “you’ve gotta meet me halfway here so I can help you. Stop fighting with me when I’m not the one you’re angry with. I know this sucks, and it hurts like hell, but you can’t just push me away. It doesn’t work like that when I’m here to stay. So tell me what’s actually going on.”
JJ watched you as the harsh expression decorating your face softened and tears welled in your eyes. “He said–he said that you would get bored of me. That you would only want me for a little while before the fascination faded,” you croaked. You let him wrap his arms around you, and rested your head against his chest. The hug was so warm and comforting, something you had never received from your family. After a minute of him holding you and murmuring comforting things, he pulled back so he could look you in the eyes.
“Baby, I hope you realize that I’m not going anywhere. I’m with you for the rest of time. And as long as I’m here with you, I’m not going to back down when you try to build those walls, okay? You’re the love of my life that I never thought I would find. It’s not something as little as lust, Y/N,” JJ promised you. “I’d be dumb not to take a chance on you, remember?”
JJ tilted his head to rest your foreheads together. “I’m sorry I was being so horrible to you, J. You’re more than I could have ever asked for, and I love you so incredibly much,” you whispered. JJ pressed a soft kiss to your lips, as he wiped a tear from your cheek with his thumb.
“Apology accepted, baby. No more trying to hurt each other just because we’re hurting, though, okay?” You nodded to him, a small smile taking its place on your lips. “Good. Let’s go get some rest now, huh?”

For what seemed like the hundredth time, the video footage of Grace standing by as Reginald writhed in his bed flashed before (Y/N)’s (e/c) eyes, along with the eyes of her siblings who stood beside her. Though the evidence stood true and before her, her gut was begging her not to believe what she saw. Swallowing, she tuned in to hear what Vanya had to say, “I mean, do you really think Mom would hurt Dad?”
“You haven’t been home in a long time, Vanya,” Luther turned away from the television to his sister. “Maybe you don’t know Grace anymore.”
“If he was poisoned, it would have shown in the coroner’s report.” Diego stated matter-of-factly, (Y/N) nodding in agreement. But Luther hadn’t been so easily convinced.
“Well, I don’t need a report to tell me what I can see with my own eyes.”
“Then your vision’s fucked, dingus,” (Y/N) moved closer to the television, clicking a button to rewind. “Look. Dad has the monocle on, then Mom stands up, the monocle is gone.”
“Oh, yeah!” Klaus chuckled, the clone from earlier still standing at his side. Diego walked away from the television.
“She wasn’t poisoning him. She was… taking it. To clean it.” He guessed. Everyone’s bodies turned towards their vigilante brother, Luther in disbelief.
“Then where is it? No, I’ve searched the house, including all her things. She doesn’t have it.” A moment of silence passed before Diego raised his hand.
“That’s because I took it from her. After the funeral.”
“You’ve had the monocle this whole time? What the hell, Diego?!” Allison leaned away from the pillar she was against. Luther stuck his hand out immediately, demanding Diego give the monocle to him.
“I threw it away.”
“You… what?” Luther blinked as Allison scoffed, going for a drink from her glass. (Y/N) rubbed her temples as Diego explained himself,
“Look, I knew that if you found it on Mom, you’d lose your shit, just like you’re doing right now.”
“Diego, you son of a bitch.” Luther took a couple threatening steps forward as Diego got into a fighting stance. (Y/N) and Vanya immediately got in between the two of them, halting both their actions.
“Hey. No. Calm down. Look, I know Dad wasn’t exactly an open book. But I do remember one thing he said. Mom was, well, designed to be a caretaker, but… also as a protector.”
“Oh, yeah,” (Y/N) slowly nodded in realization. “She was programmed to intervene if someone’s life was in danger.”
“Well, if her hardware is degrading, then… We need to turn her off.”
“Luther!-”
“Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, wait,” Diego’s voice rose in panic and anger. “She’s not just a vacuum cleaner you can throw in a closet! She feels things, I’ve seen it!”
“She just stood there, Diego, and watched our father die.”
“I’m with Luther.” Allison shrugged.
“Surprise, surprise.” Diego muttered.
“Shut up.” She shot back as (Y/N) crossed her arms.
“Well, I’m with Diego.” She voiced her opinion, her brother gratefully smiling at her. She returned the expression as Luther scoffed.
“And what does your opinion matter? The moment you moved out, you went and found the woman who gave you up the moment you were born-”
“Don’t you ever, ever, speak about my mother that way!” She boomed as she pointed a finger at him. “That woman has done more for me than I’ve ever asked of her and has supported me through everything I’ve done since I left this shithole! You have no right to give your fucking opinion on her! Even with that said, Grace is my mother as well and I will treat her as such. We were all raised by her, so my opinion matters just as much as yours, Apeman.” When she stepped back, Diego rested his hands on her shoulders from behind to steady her. Luther only stared at her in shock, not expecting her to blow up at him. Backing down, he turned to Vanya, as well as everyone else, to hear her opinion. The woman looked between her siblings, stammering out her answer before Diego interrupted her,
“Yeah, she shouldn’t get a vote.” He removed his hands from (Y/N) and moved away from them. She and Luther were going to start yet another argument between them when Vanya finally gained some confidence.
“I was gonna say that I agree with you.”
“Okay! She should get a vote,” He concluded before turning to Klaus, who leaned against another pillar. “What about you, stoner boy? What do you got?” Klaus looked up at them with raised brows.
“Oh, so, what? You need my help now? Oh, ‘Get out of the van, Klaus!’ ‘Well, welcome back to the van!’.”
“What van?” Allison questioned, clearly not understanding the situation that happened earlier. (Y/N) rolled her eyes at her druggie brother as Luther scoffed.
“What’s it gonna be, Klaus?”
“I’m with Diego, because screw you!” He furrowed his brows as Diego pointed at him, pleased that he and his brother agreed on something. “And if Ben were here, he’d agree with me.” A second afterwards, he hissed at the air beside him, (Y/N) guessing that Ben had disagreed with Klaus, but she wasn’t going to voice that. She sighed and turned to Luther.
“That’s three, Spaceboy-”
“Wait-”
“To two.” Diego finished, holding the numbers up with his fingers.
“It’s not final. Five’s not here.” Allison pointed out and (Y/N) sighed. He wouldn’t be here to give his say on the matter, anyway. Diego groaned.
“Oh, come on, he’d just agree with whatever (Y/N) has to say.” He motioned toward Number Eight, who bristled to argue with him.
“No, everyone in the family gets to vote. We owe each other that.” Allison shook her head as Luther and Vanya agreed with her. They all left the room, minus Diego, who stayed with a look of defeat. (Y/N) pat his shoulder as she left. She truly didn’t want Grace to be shut off. Granted, it was suspicious that she watched Reginald die without acting on it, but she would never hurt anyone. She showed the most care to them as kids and she couldn’t disregard that for anything.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As the night washed over the sky, (Y/N) found that she would not have been much use to Five. When she left the Academy to join him, she saw that he still sat in that van, still watching that building. As much as she had begged to help, she was slowly starting to realize that Five wasn’t letting her in on everything. She knew he hadn’t been lying about the apocalypse, but she wished he would’ve told her whatever else he was in on. She felt horrible about it, but without even alerting him of her presence, she left him and arrived back at the mansion. As she wandered, she still felt tension between her siblings, and decided that it would be best not to interact with them for now. However, she felt a tug pulling her towards the bathroom. This familiar tug was what alerted her of her clones’ presence nearby. She followed the pull and peeked inside to see Klaus taking a bubble bath, her clone still watching over him. She quietly giggled at the sight, startling her brother and causing him to sit up quickly, some water splashing over the tub and onto the floor.
“Christ, (Y/N)! Don’t scare me like that!”
“You okay?” She whispered, side-eyeing her clone. Klaus sighed and relaxed once again.
“Yes, dear. Now can you take your robot with you? It’s been following me around for hours!”
“No, I still want it to make sure you don’t die. It’ll help if you, uh… drown or something,” She grinned before leaving the room, ignoring Klaus’ calls to her. As she continued to wander around, she found Diego, who seemed to be in deep thought. When he caught sight of his sister, his tense posture relaxed before he went to stand at her side. “Hey, what are you doing?”
“Just thinkin’,” He answered. “About what you said about Mom… how she raised us all and cared for us… makes me wonder how Luther could just choose her over Dad…” He shook his head and clenched his jaw. (Y/N) surveyed his expression, gently nudging him.
“I just don’t think Luther has much of an emotional connection with Mom… Not like you do,” He turned to her with a questioning gaze. “Oh, come on, Diego. You are a Mama’s Boy and you know it. But it’s not a bad thing! It’s not like Dad gave a shit about her. It’s good that someone checks up on her and actually takes her thoughts and emotions into consideration. You have no idea how good it feels to hear your kids ask how you’re doing.” The two shared a soft chuckle as they headed towards the rooms again. They halted their steps, however, when they heard guns cocking. Slowly turning in the direction it came from, they saw two people in suits and creepy kids’ masks pointing guns at them, ready to shoot.
“Shit. Go, go!” Diego pushed (Y/N) forward, the two bolting down the hallway as gunshots zoomed past them. Right as Diego launched his knives and hit the intruders, a bullet grazed (Y/N)’s right outer thigh. She cried out in pain and nearly fell if it hadn’t been for Diego catching her. Without a second thought, he lifted her onto his back and ran further down the hall, swiftly swinging around a corner and hiding the best he could. As gently as possible, he set (Y/N) down to her feet, the girl holding in a wince as she supported herself on the wall.
The sound of footsteps echoed and increased in volume. Just when they were right beside the two, Diego jumped out of their hiding place and attacked the taller intruder with his knife. (Y/N) heard him call out for his partner to shoot, but they couldn’t get a clear shot of Diego, not being able to see (Y/N) from where they were. Diego kicked his opponent against the wall before taking off down the hall, but not before grabbing his sister. She tried to ignore the throbbing in her leg as they ran just above the parlor. Without warning, Diego wrapped his arms around her and threw them off the bannister, landing on the couch in the parlor. Since he had broken her fall, her body nearly knocked the wind out of him, but he didn’t let himself recover. He jumped off of the couch with (Y/N) and hid behind a table. Once his arms were removed from her frame, she tried to stop the bleeding in her leg by pressing down on her wound. Diego placed his own hand down over hers, eyes moving around frantically before they landed on the portrait of Reginald on the wall across from them, bullets lodged into his face.
Footsteps approached the parlor and his head snapped in their direction. “(Y/N), stay here.” He whispered right beside her ear. She looked up and shook her head.
“No, I wanna help-”
“Do not help. Stay fucking here.” He violently hissed before starting to shuffle away, but he didn’t get very far, for bullets started flying towards them. Diego quickly wrapped his arms around his sister again and threw them down to the floor, his body curling over hers. The bullets stopped and they heard fighting, (Y/N) recognizing Allison’s grunts. Diego moved himself from his sister and allowed her to climb onto his back again. She whimpered as she willed herself to move and wrap her legs around his waist, arms around his neck. When Diego stood, the two intruders had been thrown out of the room by Luther. Allison whirled towards Diego with wide eyes.
“Who the hell are these guys?! (Y/N), did they hurt you?!”
“Yeah, kinda…” She sighed as Luther turned to them.
“You’re welcome.” His words made (Y/N) groan as Diego shifted her on his back.
“I was doing fine!”
“Oh, yeah, you really had them-”
“(Y/N) is fucking hurt, what the hell did you want me-” Diego stopped talking when the intruders started shooting once again, everyone ducking down. In his haste, (Y/N) had fallen off his back and landed on the ground. She started to do an army crawl out of the room along with her brother, who yelled for Luther and Allison to go. When the two were on their feet again, Diego grabbed her hand and continued to run, the intruders heading to the opposite direction. “We need to get you to a safe place!”
“Nowhere is really safe at this point!” (Y/N) let him drag her wherever. He eventually stopped and turned her towards him. Sweat covered her forehead and blood seeped through her pants. Her eyes met his, full of concern. She shook her head and shakily sung her tune, her clone appearing beside them. Hating the order she was about to give, she clenched her teeth. “Protect me,” Immediately, the clone went to attack Diego, but (Y/N) stopped it, climbing onto its back. “Follow Diego.”
Just as the three headed towards the basement, where the shorter of the intruders had followed Allison, Klaus had been dancing around the house, completely unaware of the threat around him due to the headphones he wore. (Y/N)’s clone from earlier simply followed, standing to cover him if any bullets came near. When the three entered the basement, they saw that Allison had just been struck and was now leaning over the pool table, her lip bleeding. “You wanna rumor this psycho?” Diego questioned, Allison wiping her lip.
“I don’t need to, because this bitch just pissed me off.” She spit before turning to the woman.
“We just want the boy.” She tried to explain before Allison attacked her. Five… These bastards are looking for Five… (Y/N) thought. That information alone made her blood boil. She hopped off her clone’s back just as Allison was kicked to the ground by the intruder. Diego whistled as he approached her, the two starting their own fight. Following its second order, the clone stepped forward to follow Diego, but turned back to the stumbling (Y/N). It was confused, and she could tell. (Y/N) quietly cursed before commanding it to help her fight. The intruder broke away from Diego and Allison and headed towards (Y/N) and her lookalike. Number Eight smirked and grabbed her clone by the hand, using all her strength to swing it around. It used its legs to kick off the wall and then the woman in her chest, causing her to fall to the ground with an “oomph!”. The clone, after landing on its feet, steadied (Y/N) by her arms. This gave the intruder time to stand and make her way out of the room, but not before Diego launched, what (Y/N) could only tell as something sharp, into her leg. She cried out in pain, but continued up the stairs. The four followed her not too long afterwards, but lost her once they were at the top. (Y/N) whimpered again and hummed her second tune, the clone disappearing.
“You good?” Diego held onto her, receiving a nod in answer.
When the three made their way to the entrance, Allison cried out to Luther, who was laying on the ground in pain. (Y/N) wanted to join the two in helping him up, but her strength was wearing out, so she leaned against the wall. Looking up, she saw the female intruder going to mess with the chandelier. Luther had noticed at the same time, for they both called out for their siblings to watch out. Luther pushed Diego and Allison out of the way, allowing it to land on him. (Y/N) slumped to the floor as her breathing got shallow. She could only hope Luther had been safe before she blacked out, but not before she sang her three-note tune almost silently.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(Y/N) awoke to a sharp pain in her leg. She almost shot up, but felt a hand on the flat of her chest. It was Allison. “H-Hey, hey, it’s okay, sis. Just patching your leg up…”
“W-Who?” (Y/N) turned her head to see her clone, silently stitching up her leg. She let out a breath and relaxed against the cushions of the couch she was laying on. She turned her head to Vanya, who was nursing her own bleeding head with a rag. “Shit, Vanya, I didn’t even know you were here. You okay?” She received a nod from her sister before she heard footsteps. Diego walked in, his breathing shaky. Vanya looked up and called out to him softly. He turned to her with a cold stare.
“What are you still doing here?”
“I’m just trying to help-”
“No, you could’ve been killed! Or got any of us killed. Shit, we’re lucky (Y/N) didn’t die from blood loss!” He yelled before leaning closer to Allison. “She is a liability.” He muttered before heading towards (Y/N). Kneeling in front of her, he watched her face scrunch up in pain as the clone lifted her leg slightly to wrap it up. She reached over and placed a hand on his shoulder.
“I’m okay, don’t worry…”
“I told you not to help.” He slightly growled and held the hand on his shoulder. Past the growl, (Y/N) detected a whimper. Looking into his eyes, she felt the pain in his stare. Only it was a type of pain she knew all too well.
“Diego, what happened…?” She whispered just as she saw Vanya stand from the corner of her eye. She and her brother turned and watched her leave.
“Vanya, wait.” Allison tried to rush after their sister, but Diego told her to just let Vanya go, that it was for the best. (Y/N) heavily sighed and let her head fall back against the cushions. She hoped Five was doing fine, wherever he was.

Being a Good Friend
Epilogue Part One
Summary: Shadows of the past creep in.
Warning: none
Alex stopped walking beside you on the sandy beach. You stopped and eyed him. His worry was evident on his face.
“Alex, talk to me.” You tucked some hair behind your ear. “You can’t keep everything bottled up.”
You watched as he pressed his lips together. He looked past you before he looked back at you. His blue eyes reminded you on how sometimes, ocean could get turbulent here. He reached out and placed his hands on your tummy. Sighing, you put your hands over his. “I am fucking scared.” He finally said in a rush. “What if they find us here?” He added.
“They won’t.” You reached up and caressed his cheek, ignoring how he flinched.
“I’d be beside myself if anything were to happen to you and our little one.” He leaned into your cheek, he made a strangled sigh as he looked downward.
“They won’t Alex, it will be ok.”
******
That had been the last either of you had spoken of Juliet for quite a bit of time.
Waking with a start, Alex was breathless. He could’t remember what had made him so scared in his dream but he certainly was awake now. He did not see falling back to sleep happening anytime soon so he gently eased out of bed, careful to not wake you. It was almost five in the morning.
Pulling on his flannel robe, he went to check on little his Alexandria, his little Lexi. The moon and the dawn that was approaching flooded her room silvery, blue light. He heard her baby coos and gurgles before he even saw her.
“You couldn’t sleep either, huh love?”
There you were standing and holding on as tight as you could to the railing. She wiggled as he drew close. “Hello, my little princess. You’re happy to see daddy aren’t you ?”Reaching down, he gently picked her up and she almost immediately nestled close to his chest.
His heart swelled as he held her. He walked out onto the balcony to look at the he dark ocean lapping at the beach. Rubbing her back he looked out, she let out a burp that made Alex laugh so hard. “You may be my princess but you are a lot like daddy.” Cupping her head gently he gave it a soft kiss.
He gasped when over her head, he saw someone looking up at them. He immediately shrank back into the apartment. Fear gripped his heart. He looked around, putting his little princess down. Hunching over he walked over to the balcony. He peaked over the edge, whoever had been there was gone. It did not stop his heart from racing. Scooping up his princess he held her. What was he going to do, he just didn’t know.
*******
You put a bowl in front him the next morning. “Alex, are you ok?” You stood beside him as he ate his cereal. Absently, you played with his hair, it was getting longish. You were going to enjoy it while you could.
He nodded.
“Are you sure? You look like you didn’t sleep a wink.”
He finally looked at you and grimaced. “I checked on our little princess and when I did, we went out to the balcony. Someone was looking up at ours.”
“Are you sure?”
“At five in the morning, I’m sure.” He looked even worse then he did moments ago. “When I went go and look they were gone.”
“Good, maybe it was just someone walking by who happened to look up.” He sat back and pulled you onto his lap. “I really hope so.”
It couldn’t possible be Rose or Juliet, you mused as you hugged him. Your stomach, as you felt ill at the thought.
Lexi cooed and gurgled, lifting your head you smiled at your precious little girl. Who so many ways was just like her daddy from her wild auburn hair, bright blue eyes and some of her expressions she’d make when she spoke to either of you in her baby babble.
“Ok, we’ll stop ignoring you princess. Do you like your strained apples?”
“Daddy found you those apples.”
Right at that moment, she took a spoon and flicked it and it landed right on daddy’s face. You giggled into Alex’s shoulder who just looked stunned.
“She told you.” You giggled further into his shoulder.
******
After Alex had gone to work at the paper, you went to go and check the mail. Alex’s mum had said she she had sent a package for the baby. So you have been watching the mail like a hawk.
“Sra Law, Sra Law.” Turning, you smiled. You were still not over the giddy feeling you felt when someone would call you Mrs. Law.
“Sim.” You knew very few words but the ones you knew, you used. Sim = Yes in Portuguese
“There was a break in last night.”
Remembering, what Alex had said made fear knot in your stomach. You shifted Lexi to your other hip. “Do we know who did it? Is there any leads?”
The man shook his head. “Nao. They didn’t take anything but we’re telling the residents to make sure they lock their doors and we’ll be keeping an extra security guard on tonight.” (Nao = No in Portuguese)
“Obrigada. We’ll stay safe. I’ll tell Alex, I mean Senhora Law.” (Mrs. Law in Portuguese)
“Very good.” The sweet man who had been on the first to welcome you the complex, gently patted the back of Lex’s head. “She is such a sweet baby.”
“She is. Though she did throw some apples earlier.”
The man gave a belly laugh. “She has a a strong will like her mommy and daddy.”
You smiled, she certainly did with all she survived but you simply nodded. “She really is.” You agreed.
******
You put Lexi down for a nap once you got back to the flat. She went down easily. Once she was breathing evenly, you called Alex.
“Hi love.” He purred into the phone.
“Alex, can you come home?”
“I can try it is a heavy news day, with all the prep for carnival coming.”
“Please try to get home, tell them I am being a silly mommy. I need you home.”
“Are you ok?”
“I will be once you get here.”
“Ok, I will be there soon.”
****
He had not heard you this upset since well before. He swallowed hard and quickly typed up the last few lines he needed for his article. He the. Sent it to the editor. Taking out his wallet he managed to find in one of the pockets, he found Detective McCall’s card. He called him.
“Why Mister Law, I was just thinking about you.”
Alex rolled his eyes, the man could be dramatic.
“I hope those were good thoughts.”
The man chuckled at the other end of the line. “You know in my field there is rarely good news. Well, we are still attempting to track down Juliet Miller. We believe her and her lover boarded a boat headed to South America.”
“Oh, that is brilliant.”
“Hey stay positive there are only three known ships that take passengers so we are watching those. We will pick her up in no time.”
He sighed. “Great.” He grimaced. “ I suppose that is a good thing.” Alex was feeling confined, he desperately wanted to hang up.
“It is. Now, tell me how are you and the wee girl ? Is she keeping you up all night.”
“Not yet, but she did throw her breakfast at me this morning.”
The man chuckled, “They’ll do that.”
“Well, I better finish this article, there is always a story that needs to be covered.”
“Right, well talk to you soon Mr. Law.”
******
Thankfully, his boss was understanding and knew exactly what he was going through. Also gave him tickets to go and see it with you and the little princess. That way not only could he enjoy it but he could also cover it.
He managed to get one cigarette in before getting to the flat. He had really cut back, but with his news of Juliet loose made his old habit come back and hard.
When he came into the living room, he found you with your legs drawn up and your arms around them. You startled when he came to sit beside you. “Baby, what’s the matter? What happened?”
You threw your arms around him. He almost fell backwards but he held firm and held you tight. He resting his chin on your shoulder.
“Someone broke into the apartment complex last night. Maybe that is who you saw last night.” You pulled back and looked at him. Oh, he hated seeing you so upset. That is why you two came here to get away from all of that.
“Are they doing anything about it?” He felt like someone punched him. So someone had certainly been there last night.
“There will be an extra guard.”
“That’s good.”
*****
Sometime later when you started a late lunch for the two you, he shed his work clothes and slipped into some sweats and and sweat shirt. He went and checked on his precious Lexi.
“Ola, Ola?” (Hello in Portuguese)
He heard you say but nothing further.
“Shall we go and check on Mum?” Scooping Lexi up, he held her and walked into the kitchen.
“Who was that?”
You were stirring a the begging stages of what looked like a delicious stew or soup couldn’t tell just what yet.
“I don’t know it’s the second one today.”
Putting Lexi down in her high chair, he got her some yogurt. “Now, let’s not throw this at Daddy alright?” He traced her sweet soft cheek. She certainly only his heart and she was still such a wee thing.
He went over to you, and wrapped his arms around your middle. We’ll be ok. He whispered and pressed a kiss to your cheek. “We’ll be ok., I promise” He assured you.
Walking with you away from the stove, “Alex, I’m cooking.” He chuckled. “You know me, I love being a sweet distraction.” You giggled at that, and that you let him gently turn you around. “I do have some good news.”
You smiled gently. “Yes?”
“My boss wants me to cover carnival in two days and he gave me tickets so that you, Lexi and I could go.”
Your eyes lit up then. “Oh, that is wonderful.”
“It will be and it will give us a chance to get away a little bit. Clear our heads.”
“I’d like that.”
