But I still would like to ask: Why eruri? What was the reason for shipping eruri and not any other pairing?

Well.  That is the million dollar question! Why did I start shipping Eruri?? Tbh, it just kind of happened.  It certainly wasn’t a conscious decision on my part. I didn’t sit down and evaluate the different characters and ships and decide which one I liked best.  That’s not how shipping works for me. For me, and I suspect for many people, it’s something that takes a hold of you and won’t let go. Then before you know it you’re lying awake at 3am with two fictional men having conversations in your head.  I know that makes me sound completely mad, but that’s how most of my fics start. 

If I was to try and rationalise it though, I think it goes back to what I said in response to the last ask.  I find both Erwin and Levi really compelling well written characters.  I love the fact that they both have hidden depths, that their real selves are so different from the facade they present to the world. Levi appears to be cold and violent, when in actual fact he’s deeply kind and compassionate and the emotional heart of the story.  Erwin appears to be the archetypal military commander, ruthless and implacable, when in reality, he’s just as flawed and human as everyone else. Then of course there’s their relationship, and the deep bond of trust they’ve forged over many years. And of course the fact that they’re both grown men, with a wealth of life experience behind them, instantly makes them more attractive and relatable than any teenage protagonist. 

Really though, when it comes down to it, there’s an inexplicable magic to shipping, that defies all rationalisation and which I can never quite put into words.

However, I don't know how to feel about Levi because of the real source material (Isayama interviews, smartpass story and side material like that…) and the 'professional' Japanese translators on this blog. I think he really is, according to the correct Japanese translations and Isayama interviews, he is really dragging humanity through the mud for his personal feelings… and he is someone who is floating and aimless because of Erwin's death… So much so that Isayama even thought of killing him many times because he didn't know what to do about him and threw him aside… also I guess he has no interest in women… oh and Ackerbond is probably real… I know it's not a canon ship and I know he's not in love, but that doesn't mean it's not written too reductively to Erwin. And it disgusts me…

Because of the source material, side material, canon discourse and Japanese translator blogs, my opinion of him is changing more and more and I think I will throw my LevixOc project in the trash… Levi is really someone who (because of Isayama's writing) has been hypnotized by Erwin's own goals and has taken control of Levi's entire character and actions. I don't think I could take him (or s/o) out of this hypnosis.

I know you can say "Isayama's opinions can change" or "only what is in the manga is canon" and I used to hide behind that for consolation, but I realized that once Isayama said it, it was true and it stayed there. And I think the interviews are necessary to understand the content of the scenes etc. in the manga.

Even analysis is no longer a comfort for me… after all, why need complicated writing when interviews and manga are the source of what really happened there…

I guess he's not the character I thought I wanted… I wish he was his own man… I wish he wasn't a character to be discarded just because he died because of another character… or someone who is too picky and only accepts high standards… (this is just my own opinion based on the manga and the material/opinions I think Canon!Levi would be like that)

I'm deeply disappointed… As delulu as the Eruri fandom is, most of what they say is unfortunately true… after all, they take real sources and cite them as evidence… I don't think they are mistranslating because there are professional cold-blooded translators in this fandom and most of them quote what that blog says…

I wish I had never encountered this fandom and this character, so I wouldn't have to be so upset all these years…

Except that half of the interviews are either fake, completely twisted or don't exist. Especially that flaoting ballon bullshit, which a lot of Japanese fans say wasn't even said.

I will this again, please read the manga on your own and base your opinions on Levi on your own.

Since you already mention Eruri and i might ruin your day here but Eruri is as canon and Levihan is, it isn't. No Levi never prirotized Erwin over humanity and you'll understand that if you read the manga for yourself and analyse it for yourself without letting the fandom get to you.

Levi is his own man, he has his brain to think with and the only people who think he doesn't are shippers. Not once did Levi put his own selfish desires before humanity for anyone, he was as sad about Erwin's death as he was for the rest of his comrads. Not a single instance in the manga/anime or any actual official interviews given by Isayama was Levi reduced to Erwin, only a shipper would think that way. Oh and Ackerbond thing too, not only is that damaging to Levi's character, it is just creppy and definitely not a thing.

I am sorry anon but it seems like you don't understand Levi and his character at all. Isayama always said that Erwin and Levi were equal and sworn friends, he didn't say that because he hid some sort of hidden romance between the two, he said it because that's how it is, its a strong bond of trust and commandership and reducing it only to "Oh Levi is a love sick puppy who only cares about Erwin." is a mischaractertion at max.

My advice to you is to take a break from the fandom is they are making you not like your oc x Levi anymore, that's the best way to get them out of your head and please, base your own opinions, not what people online say.

This Eruri anon is clearly a professional gaslighter, playing nice and than snark at you for not agreeing. They are surely a delightful person in real life, not toxic at all no,no.

Even if you are not agreeing with them, why should they care to the point of stalking?? Move on.

I really like how they try to drag an homophobia discourse and at the same time deny the real lgbt couple of aot. "Historia never confirmed her feelings for Ymir" bitch what? Did you see the manga panels, the anime's frames with both of their expressions?? Ymir saying "marry me,Krista" at every chances? The fact that their dynamic is romantic coded?? Eruri has nothing of sort. It's only fanon.

And they wonder why people are so hostile when you started to insult people left and right because your ship never existed in the first place.

They’ve gone completely mad, lol. And you make a great point about how they flatly deny Historia and Ymir’s very obvious canon romance. It couldn’t be more obvious that they’re in love. But there’s no such dynamic or suggestion between Levi and Erwin. I guess Historia falling into a deep depression after Ymir was gone doesn’t mean anything? Her looking desperately for any hidden message or meaning in Ymir’s letter to her. Her telling Ymir her real name. Her look of euphoria when they reconnected outside the walls. Never saw Levi do any of that shit with Erwin. If they can’t tell the difference, then they’re even dumber than they present themselves to be. Who’s the bigot, I wonder?

Never say never

I've never hidden the fact that I almost exclusively read fanfic in English. Fanfic in my language icks me for some reason. I leave that mystery to psycholinguists if such thing exists. I've only ever read fanfic in Spanish a) by mistake (when something maybe catches your attention and you push through though your whole being goes no, no, no) or b) bc a pal wrote it.

But after reminiscing with @lucysarah-c about the times we hc'd an Argentine Levi, and how I can't seem to let go of that image despite my "SpanishFanficCringe" mindset, and how I have no problem reproducing dialog from my fics to my rl friends who don't speak English if I do it in my own Rioplatense accent, I went into AO3, searched for "argentino" and filtered by fandom.

I even read an eremika, y'all. Do you realise? My NOTP. And I fucking liked it. And eruri too.

I can't read fics in Spanish, but I can read fics in Argentine. In MY Spanish. Go figure.

2. favourite canon thing about this character?

ok i can't remember when exactly this happens but there's this one scene where erwin and jean are standing next to each other and erwin adresses jean by name. it's something that can be easily overlooked, but... how can erwin remember jean's name this easily? he hasn't been part of the corps for that long, and he's still just a simple soldier. maybe it's just the anime creators (or isayama himself; idk if this happens in the manga too) not thinking much about it, but i love to think that erwin learns the name and face of each new soldier. because he values them, because to him they're not just there to be killed for the sake of his larger-than-life dream. to me this is canon

4. if you could put this character in any other media, be it a book, a movie, anything, what would you put them in?

okay the first thing that came to my mind is this fic i once read, one that is sadly on hiatus, but it's basically an eruri dirty dancing au (loverboy by birdfriend). it starred erwin as baby and levi as the dancer guy (i forgot his name though i love that movie lmao) and wow it would be cool. i would love to see goody-two-shoes erwin be taught to dance provocatively by a hot guy and experience summer romance while vacationing at a lakeside retreat. it's what he deserves

13. what's an emoji/emoticon/any symbol that reminds you of this character or you think this character woule use a lot?

oh, emojis would thrill him to the max. he'd use all of them, even the most obscure ones, at the end of every sentence. maybe he wouldn't get the hidden meanings of certain emojis, like he would use 😏🍆💦 without really know what they imply. i'd think he'd overuse all of the smiling emojis 😀😃🙂 even if they look a lil passive aggressive sometimes, he's just genuinely that happy while using them

21. if you're a fic writer and have written for this character, what's your favourite thing to do when you're writing for this character? what's something you don't like?

oooh 🥺 in general i just like to put him in Nice Situations. i like to give him a good life and a loving family and little to no trauma. i love to make him hang out with friends who cherish him and love him and hug him. i like to see him happy and well rested. which is why i enjoy writing modern au stuff so much sjdjrjhffk

I had a weird Eruri dream for the first time but lol I wonder if there is a fic like that. So it's modern au which is basically Assassin's Creed Au where Marleyans and a secret Eldian group are after a very rare special artifact that was hidden and forgotten in time after King ordered the persecution of the Ackermans and since Ackermans are connected to each other's through paths in this AU they can directly connect with past Ackermans and see their memories or even talk to them thus Marleyans basically went after Levi after finding out through blood test that he's an Ackerman and he's from the main family too which means he probably has a stong connection with the one who hid it. Erwin is from that secret Eldian group and basically like a co-founder and he is also after Levi and I don't remember if Erwin saves him or not but they find each other and Levi doubts who to trust for a while but then he decides to trust Erwin and feeds Marleyans false info and helps Erwin find the artifact. I am sorry this is probably very random but I know I will never write this fic and I don't know if there is anything like that so I needed to share this with someone :') I hope someone else wrote something like this before!!

You're right Anon, this is very random 😂 It's also VERY awesome. I very rarely remember dreams, and on the odd occasion that I do I invariably dream about work 😭 I'm incredibly envious that you dream about Eruri, and with plot too! This sounds like an amazing outline for a fic, I don't think I've come across anything quite like this. You should absolutely try writing this. I don't know if anyone else has written or read anything along these lines???

eruri modern au where erwin is a conspiracy theory blogger in search for The Truth that the government is hiding, and his every step is hounded by the minions of orthodoxy... this is why, when looking for a roommate, he low-key holds it like an audition for a potential body guard. hence, levi moves in. how much levi believes in erwin's cause (and whether or not it's all just paranoia) is... welp. he doesn't really care one way or another but he plays along because erwin is very very very hot.

plot twist! this all sorta turns true after their third roommate hange hacks an airport and leaks a no-fly list.

Sometimes I think eruri maybe is not romantic at all and then I remember art like this, in which Mikasa is clearly looking at Eren and then its Levi shirtless looking at Erwin, the most precious person for him, I mean, platonic: 0, romantic: 1.

I also think about the great possibility that eruri is not official because is also illegal, boss and subordinate, you know. Also gay. I don't know, just my ramblings.

Ciento Dos

Rose City, a peaceful and calmest city out of the three capitals of Paradis. It is indeed the calmest city out of the three during daylight, but as midnight strikes it turns out to be the liveliest, loudest and houses a lot of illegal activities, one of them is racing. 

While it is still illegal, there’s a lot of patrons that the government can't handle if they persecute every single drifter in the city. Drifters are the racers, The drift is their tracks, and Driven is what they use instead of race, a pretty much decent name for an illegal activity.

Miche is one of the top drifters in the said city where he uses the alias 'Dos'. Racing was his hobby introduced by his best friend, Erwin commonly known as 'Primo'. To which they have been racing for 5 years, building off their reputation. 'Make your hobby give you money' as they say.

One night while he was racing, he nearly ran over someone who was crossing the street. Stunned and awed by the beauty, he decides to show off and drive the apparently lost tourist to her destination. Before returning to his race, which he doesn't care if he will still win or not, he learns her name was Nanaba and was lost as she was walking around with Levi, Erwin’s boyfriend. 

"Dos, what the fuck you nearly lost the race." Primo lightly hits his head, it was a near miss if only he didn't use his boost.

"Fuck the race, i saw someone beautiful and coincidentally your boyfriend knows her."

"Uno..? Ah, might be his cousin. He said he has a cousin migrating from Marley cuz of school expulsion, i'm not sure."

Oh boy did Miche just stare at her when she came into his class the next day with Levi. He wasn't sure if her aura changed a lot since their last meeting or just because of her clothing.

"Hi, mister nearly ran over me. I hope you still remember what you did. I'm Nanaba Dietrich, Levi's cousin from Marley." she beamed as she sat beside Miche, leaving him speechless for a minute or two.

"Why of course I still remember your pretty face from last night. Miche Zacharius, and we don't talk about why I nearly ran you over during school hours, thank you." He smiled back at her, offering his hand, to which she accepted.

"Deal! Pleasure meeting you, Miche."

"You too, sweetheart."

Their friendship grew as weeks passed by and others can consider them dating just by a glance from afar, but Nanaba suddenly went silent and rushed out of school, just before Miche could ask her to come watch his race tonight with another top racer from Marley. 

Miche disheartenedly went to the race, nearly getting disqualified for being late. What surprised him was Levi being there when Erwin's not on schedule.

"Do your best, Dos. Cien's a big shot in Marley." Uno wished him as he patted his shoulder.

"Cien? The racer from Marley? Yeah watch me beat them, this is Rose not Marley. If only Nanaba's here to watch me..." He shrugs and rolls his eyes, despite getting disheartened because of Nana's absence, he can't let his pride and ego crumble by losing just because of it. Besides, he was notified that Cien uses a lower model car than his, it's a sure win.

"Oh I will, Dos. I'll be watching you side by side. If... you actually beat me." Cien leaned against her car, smirking. Despite having a lower model like everyone knows, her car was hella modified for her success. Her aura is more dominant, powerful, playful. She once again left Miche speechless.

"You are... Cien? Huh, no wonder you suddenly disappeared. Well then, goodluck Cien. I only wish for your luck to side with you to beat me." Dos couldn't help but throw a sarcastic comment with a smile.

"Racer's bet for the night? Winner takes all the audience's bets, losers go home with nothing but nearly empty gas and some bumps for repair." Primo announces, being the referee for the night.

"A date, if I win. Cien can have my car if I lose." Dos looked at her with a smirk adorning his lips.

"A kiss is all this lady asks, if I win. Dos can have my reputation in Marley ruined if I lose." Cien laughed as if judging how petty their bets are.

And with that, their race started with cheers and roars of excitement as no one knew who would win.

Bonus:

The race that happened between the two would definitely go down in the history of Rose City’s racing society. Everyone was at the edge of their seats as they watched how the two were just the perfect match for each other and no one really knew who would win. Especially when Dos has pulled one of his tricks to slow down Cien, but it backfired as Cien pulled her signature trick that drove Dos out of his lane and nearly crashed on a store in the sidewalk if only he didn't use his modified hard break making the car stumble to stop instead. It was when they thought that Dos would lose, but he instead used his shortcut route and catched up with Cien a minute before they both reached the end of the track, everyone thought it was a draw match but the cameras said otherwise. Cien indeed has won against Dos in their first match. 

As Cien gets out of the car, Uno welcomes her with a hug and a pat from Primo. She looked at Dos’ car worriedly as he hadn't gotten out of his car yet, she didn't know if her trick caused an injury to the man. She hurriedly went over to the driver’s side and opened the door, revealing a rather smiling but exhausted Dos.

“Well well, you look rather worried than smug about your win against me, Cien.” he panted out in exhaustion as the adrenaline he felt was wearing off.

“You haven’t got out of your car so i thought you were injured by what i did.” she couldn't help but smack his head out of annoyance before helping him get out of the car.

“So… keys to my car as promised. There’s your prize from me, my lady. Sucks to not take you out on a date, it would be wonderful.” he says, cornering her on the hood.

“Forgetting something, kind sir?” she asked, wrapping arms around his shoulder.

“No, I actually quite remember what you want if you win, darling.” he chuckled as he whispered in her ear before leaning in to seal the distance between their lips.

Snk Positivity Week: Day 4!

It’s Hidden Gems day for SnK Positivity Week and I wanted to dedicate this post to a very special friend of mine. @danchoupls!

Danny, you’re a sweetheart. You’re so kind and encouraging and such a great source of positivity. Even when you were feeling down yourself, you’ve still helped so many by being supportive and inspiring. I can only hope that we’ve done the same for you. 

You were the first friend I made here on Tumblr and I couldn’t be more happy and proud about that. You’ve been such a light in my life and in so many others. You’re smart and beautiful and so fun to talk to! Not to mention that you are crazy talented! (Seriously y’all, this girl’s poetry is out of this world.) You inspired me to post, to try my own hand at poetry, and to be a better person. I can’t thank you enough.

Eruri shippers in my eyes are the same Satosugu. They see a friendship between two men and twist that to fit their fetishy narrative. I’ve seen it happen in so many anime fandoms (real life as well because when I was in my teens I was obsessed with one direction and people even did that with Harry/Louis which is even more disgusting as they are real people.)

There is nothing in the text/panels/etc that supports Eruri or Satosugu(or any of these ships they so desperately want to prove as canon). I don’t ship Eruri but I do ship Satosugu as a cute idea. I even ship characters who don’t even talk just because I want to. However, I am able to seperate canon from fanon and realize that satosugu and any other ship I like is not canon either. It generally upsets me when people try to use false evidence to support ships.. It gives a bad name to shippers and the lgbtq community (i am in both) as a whole when these people call others delusional, homophobic etc. They make us seem crazy and I hate that. It’s supposed to be for fun? Recognizing canon is not homophobic. Some people like to enjoy stories as they are presented and there is nothing wrong with that. Pushing ships as canon defeats the purpose in my eyes and deludes others from liking these characters because they twist the personality of them to fit their ship. It’s gross and I’m so upset with people for attacking you and other blogs I follow for this.

It shouldn't be a controversial statement to say eruri, or any other ship involving Levi, isn't canon, because that's just a basic fact. It's a FACT. The same way one can say Eren is the main character of AoT. It's just a fact. But these people just can't accept it, and try to come up with all manner of outrageous, far-fetched, delusional reasons which require absurd amounts of speculation and assumption and conspiracy theorizing to justify, and then they get mad at you when you won't give those baseless theories any real consideration. Why should I or anyone give any real consideration to a substanceless theory which stands on nothing but wild speculation? How is that a legitimate way to engage in any piece of media? If you start doing that, you could read countless hidden meanings and agendas and messages into everything, and by the end of it, you'll have so warped the original content, it won't even resemble what's actually there on the page or screen. That's essentially what these people are doing with their wacked-out, obsessive need to prove eruri is "canon".
