I finished working on my taxidermy jackalope.

She has real roe deer antlers and a wooden base. The pattern on the wooden base is that of my nan's old wallpaper, which I digitized from an old photo and recreated to line up in a repeating manner, as the original would have. Since rabbits used to live on the property, I figured it would suit this rabbit rather well.

I've been meaning to work on her since October, but now she is happily mounted and watching over my living room. I've named her Irina.

‘Nate, it hurts when you use suicide like an ultimatum, without giving me a chance to talk to you first,’ Janusz said, his voice surprisingly stern. Nate hated that tone. He buried his face in Janusz’ shoulder, and whined when fingers stroked his hair. He didn’t deserve all this comfort, did he? He didn’t deserve any of it. ‘But you’re hurting so, so badly. We’re not going to place you with another alpha until you decide you’re ready. If you don’t decide you’re ready, we’ll figure something out. In the meantime, you’re going to live here with me, and share your heats with me so you don’t get hurt. Okay?’ ‘But I cost money. Christian won’t pay forever. I bet he stops now. He’ll stop. He doesn’t- He has someone else.’ ‘Shhh, Nate. Listen to me. Hillview costs so much so we can put funds aside to support omegas like you who need a place to live, and space to recover. You can stay here for as long as you need to. We’ve got your back, Nate. It might not be what you’re used to, and you might think we’re too nice, but don’t you feel like you might need something that’s nice for a little while?’ Nate wiped his face on Janusz’ shirt even though he was crying all over again. ‘Let it out, sweetheart,’ Janusz crooned. ‘No one’s going to yell at you for having feelings here. Especially about this. And later you’ll have a nap, and then we’ll make something nice to eat, okay? Do you want to help me?’ ‘Can I?’ Nate said, looking up, his words mangled by his own wrecked voice. ‘Yeah,’ Janusz said, with a tired smile. ‘Yeah, baby. Fuck all the protocol, you can help me.’

Located next to the two oldest houses in Hollywood, it was built in 1918. It housed several struggling actors in the early 1920s including Clara Bow, Joan Blondell, Jack LaRue, Mae Busch, Pat O'Brien, and Oliver Hardy.

Daily excerpt from today's writing, chapter 87 of Underline the Black:

'Oh, Efnisien,' Gary said, at a particularly thin whimper from the boy. 'I am sorry. Come on, I've made some hot chocolate for the both of us. Do you want marshmallows?' 'Do you want me to have them?' Efnisien said.  A swift spike of anger because he loathed Efnisien behaving like an automaton around him. He'd had enough of that from omegas, and it made his skin crawl. They couldn't help it, he couldn't help it, but this... What if this was permanent?  'Efnisien,' Gary said again, reaching out and curling his hand gently around Efnisien's ankle. 'Come on now, this response, it's physiological. It's not you, sweetheart.' For so long, Efnisien had been sure that he wasn't good for Gary. And since the beginning, Gary had known he wasn't good for Efnisien. As he knelt there, begging with a nineteen-year-old to come back to some rational thought, it occurred to him all over again that this was a bad idea, and perhaps he should be tangibly working to get Efnisien away from him. They were both so volatile.  'Please,' Gary said roughly. 'Otherwise I might have to call Temsen, and I think we both don't want to see him right now.'
