News 'Kase-san' Volume Releases this Week Digitally; Physical release 2/15
The next volume in Hiromi Takashima's long-running Yuri series Kase-san will be available in English digitally on February 8. The manga, Kase-san and Yamada volume 2 will be released in print shortly after, on February 15. This is the seventh overall volume in the series and second in the sequel print, following the titular characters after graduating high school.
Kase-san follows Yui Yama, a quiet girl who falls in love with the athletic Tomako Kase. The two begin dating, and the story follows the ups and downs of their relationship and the challenges they face. The publisher describes the newest volume:
It's Kase and Yamada's first summer break of university! With a fireworks festival and beach vacation ahead of them, there's plenty to look forward to. However, when Kase's beautiful roommate shows up, Yamada finds herself overwhelmed with jealousy. Is this the end of their fun in the sun?
The series is praised by critics for its characters and storylines. Notably, it is one of the first Yuri series to follow its characters beyond high school, where most Yuri series and relationships end.
The original Kase-san series was serialized in Hirari 2010 to 2014 and then Flash Wings after the former ceased publication. 2017. The sequel series began serialization in Wings in April 2017. An OVA adaptation of Kase-san was released theatrically in June 2018. Shinshokan publishes all seven volumes in Japanese. Kase-san is translated into English by Jocelyne Allen.

Before Eien Pressure, she had the record of being the only first generation AKB48 member to be present on every A-side single (from Skirt, Hirari up to UZA).
Known to be best friends with former member Komatani Hitomi. Sadly, she was not present when Komatani announced her graduation plan.

[review] Goosehouse Hajimari Hajimari Tour - Tokyo International Forum Hall A - 12 Feb 2017
My third LIVE, but this time is a full member. Tokyo International Forum Hall A - 5000 people capacity.
Luckily, I hit the lottery tickets. So, I got a very good seating position.
The second row from the stage and in the middle. I can see them clearly :)
Unfortunately, I didn’t get the chance to receive the “flying disk” at all. Since all the members were throwing them with all of their might.
PHASE #1 - Before Entering the Venue
I arrived at the venue at 15.00 pm (the pre-sale goods start from 15.00 - 16.30). It was a big mistake. I suggest if you want to buy something, get up early and arrive 2 hours before the pre-sale starts (which is I need to arrive at 13.00).
Why?
Your desired goodies won’t sold out yet. Especially for popular items. In my case, I started to line up from 15.00 then arrived at the goods counter at 17.38. Egg Shaker, all White T-Shirt, M & L Size of the Black T-shirt were sold out already.
Goose_heart have a tradition to take a photo shoot together before entering the venue (you can check his website). This is the right time to be friends with other housemates while the sun still shining. So... it’s better to finish the goodies early, then you still have time to socialize etc. So sad I missed this chance. Maybe next time.
PHASE #2 - The LIVE
It was a seating venue so everyone will get their seat number. It doesn’t matter when you arrived at the venue if you didn’t buy any goodies. Although you have your own seat, everyone stands all the time (except during the mellow part).
M1. Fly High So High
BAM! I was so amazed by how the light’s play enhance their performance. I admire their stage director, whoever you are. Every part, every tone, every mood... the lighting play and color could convey it so well.
M2. Oto No Naru Hou E
Kei guided all of the audience to clap their hands. The venue started to get high.
M3. NonStop! Journey
Another high spirit song.
- Introduction -
Some introduction from Kudo, “We are Goosehouse”. You need to experience by yourself how “energetic” he was tonight. He did a good job as MC. Later, Kudo asked Migiwa to introduce them to the audience. Migiwa responded in low tone greet, and Kudo felt so frustrated. Then, he asked Manami to do that.
Manami greets everyone in such a formal tone and super-formal sentence (the one you used when you are meeting a boss from a nice company).
“... for you who got seats in the very back of the first floor and second floor. Please don’t complain that you can’t see us well. You need to understand how a 148 cm girl daily life is...”
Kudo introduces all members hometown:
Johnny - from Niigata
Wasshuu - from Oita
Sayaka - from Gunma
Manami - from Chiba
Kudo & Migiwa - from Kanagawa-Yokohama
Kei - from Tokyo (she was born in Tokyo, 1-5 moved to Nagoya, then moved again to Los Angeles)
M4. Sing
The lights play on the stage was so amazing. It delivers the “friendly nostalgic” atmosphere of “Sing”. Kudo mentioned that this is a very precious song. The first song they made as Goosehouse.
M5. Koi Wa Hira Hirari -Acoustic Version-
Another nice song :)
M6. Munasawagi Navigation
Johnny grabbed his Banjo and start his short solo peformance (I thought they are going to perform Countryroad, but I was wrong...). Then, Kei follows him with this kind of short-little-flute, it gives a very new and nice mood to the song. I kind of forgot who sang d-iZe part, maybe it was Johnny? or Manami? Hmm
M7. HOY Special Medley
- Chiisana Koi No Uta (all members)
- Te wo Tatake (All the audience clap their hands)
- Konya wa Boogie Back (all the audience suddenly start to scream out loud. It only Kudo and Migiwa perform the song)
- Ai wo Komete Hanataba wo (wasshuu’s solo)
- Takane no Hanako-san (all members)
- Koisuru Fortune Cookies (Kudo and Kei sing with their shakers)
- Egao (all members)
- Toshishita no Otoko no Ko (I don’t understand why, but Kudo also follows all the girls dance movement in such annoying but fun way lol)
- Ojamajo Carnival (upbeat song)
- Koi (all members, Manami, Kei, & Kudo did the Koi Dance)
M8. MUSIC ~Namida no Niji~
Sayaka explained about Heptagon. If Goosehouse were 6 people or 8 people... they can make something related to compass, or watch. However, you can’t do that with number 7. That means you need a very beautiful balance for 7 people. Heptagon.
The song is about “congratulations (omedetou)”. The intro of the song was full of drum and timpani sound. So cool yet happy!
M9. You
A grand piano appears on the stage. Sayaka played the piano, and all members surround her. All the audience was asked to sit. A warm-slow-peaceful song.
M10. Sky
The reason why they made this song is their response to Fukushima Disaster.
Kudo made a mistake here (”that was LOVE & LIFE and Sky” he said, but they didn’t sing LOVE & LIFE yet. He was so embarassed while Wasshuu LOL-ing him a lot.)
M11. LOVE & LIFE
“Let’s gather on the table” >> what they usually do during the USTREAM
M12. Bokura Dake No Toushindai
Upbeat song
M13. Domino Effect
More upbeat and happy song
M14. Hikaru Nara
The climax! The light’s play and the color play also in their climax!
the stage was so amazing!
- Everyone went out -
- Encore request from audience -
- Everyone got back, in their Hajimari Hajimari T-shirt -
Migiwa’s farewell message: “...If I need to summarize all the words that I need to tell you...it will be... THANK YOU”.
EN1. Fuusen
It’s Migiwa’s graduation song
EN2. Kono Yubi Tomare
Final song. Each member will fly 4 of their “signed flying disk” to the audience.
I wonder who is the lucky one:,)
PHASE #3 - Finished
Everything finished. One by one the audience get out from the hall.
The nice thing is: in the hall lobby, they have this “present box”. In case you want to give Goosehouse’s member some gift. You are allowed to do that.
At today's Boku no Taiyou stage, I announced my graduation.
4/30 will be my birthday & graduation stage.
My last handshake will be 6/10.
I joined AKB when I was 17.
This will be my 9th year of activity.
I started aiming to be an actress after I was scouted in 5th grade.
I joined a children's theatre company when I was 14, but the reality was severe, and I was frustrated with my own abilities.
When a friend told me about AKB48, I decided to take a step forward and audition.
But it didn't go well, and I didn't pass until my 5th time auditioning!
I thought if I appeared to ordinary and unsuitable, I would give up.
But frustratingly my dream became bigger and I was unsatisfied at the thought of stopping.
When I entered AKB48;
My position on KKS stages was good,
I was chosen to perform Skirt Hirari as one of the Sukahira 7,
I was one of the three KKS chosen to appear on AKBINGO for the first time,
I picked up a 5cm thick pile of fanletters at each performance
Everything seemed to be fine...
But my handshake sales were nothing compared to the others.
Back before AKB became a 'National Idol Group'
It was 5 fans who looped my handshake line round and round.
Even popular kenkyuusei can gather a line of 30 people at HS events.
It was frustrating.
I tried my best at cleaning the dressing room of the theater.
At the time, I thought I'd gain popularity if I worked hard, including cleaning! lol
Although cleaning doesn't raise popularity,
The senior members noticed,
And mentioned it on their blogs.
As AKB's popularity went up, my handshakes became more enjoyable as the number of people grew.
I was promoted, and I decided upon a catchphrase
"3 o'clock snacks are Mariyannu"
which was used in Team B Oshi.
My name recognition slowly went up,
Finally,
I was able to act in Kokkuri-san The Movie for the first time.
Then in two more films after that!
I wanted to try new activities, not just AKB work!
I read an article on G+ about Akimoto-sensei wanting to transfer members to the oversea sister groups.
Without hesitiating I went for it,
And transferred from AKB to the Shanghai group.
It was a valuable experience.
When I returned to AKB48,
It was different from the AKB48 I had left.
In my previous team I was the most junior member
But now I myself had a lot of juniors.
At first it was confusing, but I got used to it.
My activities returned to as they were before.
A cozy and relaxing feeling.
Every theatre performance, I saw a lot of new faces, and I felt responsibilty to raise up the junoirs.
I grew to love theatre performances more than before.
Before I noticed it, my close friends moved on one by one, and eventually
I was the only 7th generation member left in AKB48.
When talking with staff last year they said
"Mariyannu might be here until she's 30!"
It's comfortable having a happy place.
Everyday is fun, and I wish to stay forever.
But also...
The things I'd like to try before I'm 30... There are many.
I realised these feelings.
When I was in hospital earlier having tonsillectomy surgery, I though about a lot of things over those nine days.
When I was recording the Janken single and PV, it was my first time doing activites with a small amount of people.
In November, I started thinking about graduation.
The 16th generation were announced, and lots of other juniors who will be the next generations of AKB.
As my feeling about graduation gathered, I decided to graduate on my birthday stage.
I thought about announcing it on my birthday stage
But thinking about my fans feelings
I didn't want to make them sad after they congratulated me, and also, it will be more time and money if the graduation performance comes after the birthday stage.
Congratulations! Well Done! Happy!
I decided to graduate on my birthday stage.
The handshakes will continue until 6/10, since I don't want people who bought tickets to have to miss it or need a refund.
I was thinking about everyone's graduation, and everyone's fans.
I would like you to tell me your honest feelings
If you think it was shocking, if you're lonely, if you don't want me to feel sad.
Because I thought about it a lot.
I don't regret it, and I'm glad I could say it.
I'm relieved.
The remaning 2 and a half months I have in AKB
I'll enjoy my youth that I can't return to anymore
I'll be happy if you can support me until then!
The next performance is 2/14 Valentines Day.
I'd like to do as many theatre performances as I can, as I don't know how much more I can do it.
This was really long, but to those who read until the end
I really thank you
So they announced the cast for the boku no taiyou last show at akb theater and it just dawned on me that as her time as a Team A member Hirari was never really recognized as such.
She wasn’t selected for top 16 for their first show
Her graduation show wasn’t with Team A
She was basically treated as a sub-member of AKB or a kenkyuusei for her entire last like 2 years in AKB and that really really hurts.

Kindred Spirits on the Roof: The Complete Collection
By Hachi Ito, Aya Fumio and Toitentsu, based on the visual novel by Liar-Soft. Released in Japan in two separate volumes as “Okujou no Yurirei-san” by Shinshokan, serialized in the magazine Hirari. Released in North America by Seven Seas. Translated by Amy Osteraas; Adapted by David Liederman.
The success of Kindred Spirits on the Roof as a visual novel was one of the big events of 2016 – indeed, I even reviewed the game here – so it shouldn’t be a surprise that Seven Seas would pick up a manga adaptation of it. What is a surprise is that this isn’t just the usual manga adaptation of the visual novel itself; instead, you get two long stories that take place the year after the game happened, featuring new characters but with many cameos and supporting appearances from our heroines we know and love. This, of course, also allows the authors to hook up new couples, something that wasn’t likely to happen if they focused on the already resolved game pairings.
This was released in Japan as two separate volumes, “Side A” and “Side B”, by two different artist teams. As with many series that follow this path, the A side is better. Shiori is a shy student with a talent for art who is trying to recover from her best friend confessing to her the previous year. They haven’t spoken since, though it doesn’t appear to be because Shiori isn’t interested (certainly not in THIS series, at least), but because she has no idea what to say or how to react, and also she’s a giant introvert. Luckily, she’s in a class with Hina and Seina, two of the visual novel’s heroines, and they can help give her perspective and also talk about their own experiences. As this year’s cultural festival comes up, Shiori finds the courage to tell Maki how she really feels. The festival also gives us an opportunity to have everyone else cameo, even the girls who had graduated (and the ghosts, though they’re reduced to sort of smiling down on the new lesbians from heaven, as one does).
The second half isn’t quite as gripping, though it isn’t actually bad or anything. Chiharu is also a new first-year, and she’s a fan of yuri pairs (boy, did she come to the right school). When she sees two upperclassmen try to get members for the quiz club, she’s enthralled… not by quizzes, but at the thought of what a cute couple they’d make. Joining the club, she finds a kindred spirit (see what I did there?) in Tokino, who is taller and more reserved but also a yuri fan. If this manga weren’t so light and fluffy, this would be a recipe for disaster. But it is light and fluffy, and so Chiharu and Tokino turn out to be correct, and resolve to help push their two sempais together… and possibly learn something more about their own relationship. There are fewer cameos here, so things lean more heavily on the new girls.
Both stories are cute and fluffy and not too deep, and filled with cute fluffy high school yuri. I do think that anyone who wants to read them should play the game first; it adds to the experience of knowing who all these people are. If you have played the game, you’ll definitely want to buy this.
