y/n sat quietly as yujin stared at her, wondering what to say to the girl. the hybe idol had just arrived when the news had dropped, leaving the awkward situation much more awkward than it already was.

even though yujin didn’t know the girl well, she felt bed.

“are you okay?” yujin asked, the wind blowing her hair as the two stood against the edge of the railing on starship’s rooftop hangout.

y/n’s eyes moved to scan the city of seoul. she wondered how people could hate her so much for something that they knew nothing about. did people just naturally hate her? was it in her blood?

y/n hated being a kim sometimes.

“i feel like shit.” y/n said honestly, she looked over to yujin with her eyes glazed over. “but yeah, i’m okay.”

yujin looked her up and down. chaewon had mentioned to her that y/n was going to get like this, but yujin had dealt with enough drama in IVE to be comfortable enough to push.

“are you sure?”

y/n stared at her, immediately knowing the worried gaze of a leader.

“if you ask me again, i’ll break down.” y/n winced, realizing that it might have been a bit too hostile.

yujin wasn’t fazed. she understood how hard the situation was. she was couldn’t imagine how tiring it must be to be the scapegoat of the group. the public was brutal, especially when it came to girls who naturally attracted people towards them.

she was just surprised that the public was more repulsed by y/n herself than by the thought of two girls dating. their country may have progressed, but they still hated women.

“i’m sorry. i’m just embarrassed.” y/n apologized. she shook her head as she looked at the business below. “i can’t believe i’m breaking down in front of my bias.”

yujin felt herself blushing, not expecting the girl to be so forward. she covered her mouth, her smile making her eyes squint into a moon shape. “i’m your bias?”

y/n nodded, not sure what the big deal was. “in iz*one, yeah.”

yujin’s face dropped. “not in IVE?”

y/n shook her head almost automatically, hiding a smile as she watched yujin’s face. it was always fun to tease leaders. they usually had the most extreme reactions.

maybe that’s why y/n loved teasing minji so much.

“you have no taste.” yujin rolled her eyes, a playful smile covering her face.

chaewon was right about how the two of you would get along. it was nice to finally have a friend around her age that wasn’t insanely busy all the time (read: shin yuna).

y/n scoffed, leaning back. “you’re just bitter.”

“you’re just blind.”

y/n chuckled, IVE’s leader joining soon after. it was one of the very rare times that the two felt like they weren’t hanging out to make connections, something extremely common in the industry.

yujin finally had someone who she felt like she could talk to about things aside from work, and she knew that y/n felt the same, even if the two of you had more friends than just each other.

the two girls fell silent, once again watching the busy streets of korea.

y/n couldn’t help but start to worry. the media had a horrible way of twisting her into the villian, even back when she was a trainee. she couldn’t imagine minji going through something similar.

it made her angry, and made her fearful for the younger girl. she would never say it out loud, but she would gladly take the hit for minji if it meant that she got to live in a world that wasn’t like hers.

y/n just wanted minji to be okay.

yujin looked over to y/n, noticing that the girl was starting to overthink. she knew that face, yujin saw it in the mirror every time she looked.

“we can talk about something to take your mind off of it.” yujin hummed, y/n’s eyes snapping to the taller girl’s.

yujin sent her a smile, waiting for her to speak.

y/n blushed, not realizing that she had been that noticeable. she nodded, thinking of something to talk about. “i found this 7/11 that sells really niche american snacks.”

“wait what?” yujin stood up straight. her members would’ve loved to go there. “where?”

“i don’t remember.” y/n shrugged, a small grin appearing on her face. “i was with minji and we just ran around until we found something good.”

yujin nodded, squinting slightly as she observed how the shorter girl had started blushing.

“she almost got ran over on our date actually.” y/n reminised, looking back down at the street below.

minji had been in such a big rush, realizing that it was way past midnight and she was definitely going to get scolded by her manager in the morning.

“wait…” yujin’s eyes went wide. “you guys are actually dating?”

“no, like friend date.” y/n laughed, a small pang going through her chest. weird. “minji wouldn’t date me.”

yujin nodded, not believing the girl. “but you would date her?”

“if i liked her, yeah.” y/n shrugged, not sure why yujin was asking such random questions. “she deserves someone who’s good to her.”

yujin hummed. she felt like y/n was hiding something, and yujin knew she was nosey. y/n was her new friend, so pushing a little wouldn’t hurt.

“who would you want her to date?” yujin asked.

y/n thought a little, not sure why the question bugged her so much. “someone who she can have fun around.”

“oh,” yujin smirked, looking at y/n’s oblivious face. “like going on 7/11 dates?”

“yeah!” y/n agreed almost immediately. she turned to look to yujin, wondering if she was hinting at something. “are you dating anyone?”

yujin stopped herself from laughing. “i’m too busy being the leader here.”

y/n scoffed, hearing that excuse before. “you sound like chaewon-unnie.”

yujin gasped, hating the fact that she had been compared to le sserafim’s leader. she was nothing like that.

“chaewon-unnie’s blind.” yujin complained, ignoring y/n’s loud laughing. “she can’t even tell that minju-unnie has been waiting for her to ask her out. i’m surprised she even pulled.”

y/n laughed harder, momentarily forgetting about the entire problem of the night. “sounds like you’re projecting.”

“i can’t pull because everyone thinks i’m dating wonyoung.” yujin whined. she loved wonyoung but not like that. “wonyoung’s not even my type—”

“wonyoung’s not your type?!” y/n shouted, immediately wincing after she realized how loud she had been. “she’s everyone’s type?”

“not mine.” yujin sighed, smiling as she thought of her type. “i like people who can make me laugh without meaning to.”

yujin bit her tongue. she liked funny people, someone who didn’t care about cameras, but who was just themselves. she liked that type of funny.

“minji’s like that.” y/n smiled before glaring at yujin. “you can’t date her though.”

yujin sighed, shaking her head. “i know.”

“i’m serious.”

“i. know.”

Are there any role swaps or personality swaps in the hellaverse you think would be fun? Or even an improvement on each characters canon story

swaps in general have always been enjoyable from a storytelling perspective, at least for me. how much would the story change if this character was here instead? or if their job was different? their personality? its very fascinating.

that being said i dont think a swap is necessarily an improvement, especially when it comes to something as controversial as the hellaverse (im interpreting this as hazbin hotel and helluva boss combined). the characters as they are now are completely workable on their own, but their effectiveness relies solely on whos handling them. DISCLAIMER — im not saying im the best person to do that. a lot of the changes i think about for hazbin and helluva are just that, changes, rather that outright swaps.

starting at the basic level, i think one of the most approachable swaps is for hazbin hotel, and its simply imagining how the pilot/comic/beta personalities and occupations of the characters would affect the story as it is now. alastor is a great example of this — in the current series hes a narcissist whos pettier, more insecure, and less powerful that he lets on; in the pilot/comic he channels more of a hannibal lecter energy, where he doesnt actively go looking for fights and will leave you alone and even treat you nicely if you do the same to him; in his beta/zoophobia iteration, he comes across as much younger — a barely-there twenty-something (probably younger, honestly — he has the energy of a 13 year old with delusions of grandeur) whos content with being an edgy chaos-monger without giving a shit about coming off as palatable or gentlemanly. thats three very distinct personalities which would all react to the same situation in potentially vastly different ways.

helluva boss has less character iterations to draw from, but it still has the pilot episode. this would be more of a genre swap than an outright character one — outside of stolas, none of the main characters have changed drastically since the first couple of episodes. the pilot originally advertised an work sitcom a-la the office or brooklyn99, whereas the series now is comparable to a tele-nova. i think if the show had been planned and advertised as such it would have been less of a big deal, but i definitely think we were told one thing and then gradually given something else.

(i think hazbin hotel would have also worked as a workplace sitcom — ive definitely had an idea for that in the past. it negates the redemption storyline and becomes a story about charlie trying to save her favourite childhood vacation spot from dilapidation. in point of fact, that WAS kind of a swap, now that i think about it — hazbin became a workplace comedy, and helluva was a romantic-drama-comedy that was based off of what hazbin set up).

approaching the more drastic swaps, one of the ones ive seen for hazbin the most often and enjoy a lot in concept is where different characters are looking after the hotel, either with or without charlie. there are a fair few characters who have a foil — charlie has emily, alastor has vox, etc. — these are the ones i see the most. seeing how creators interpret different powers and personalities affecting the idea of redemption for sinners is very cool. id like to try my hand at this myself one day, but i havent found the inspiration yet.

similarly, a common swap ive seen for helluva boss is switching blitzo and stolas out for barbie wire and stella. unfortunately we dont know much about barbie or stella for me to have much of an opinion on this version. one swap i would like to try myself is swapping blitzo out for fizzarolli — off the top of my head, i think this would turn more characters into outright bad guys, or at least rivals, instead of simply being misunderstood, and im not sure how many people would actually like that.

as a general closer, genderswaps are also fun, because playing with societal expectations and seeing how that affects things like fashion and personality and relationships is always very interesting.

32: What words upset me the most

warning this kinda turned into a rant im sorry about that ajklsdf dont read on if u dont want to read about my salt 

er hm i dont really have specific words, but probably guilt tripping or passive aggressiveness, i really hate that stuff (if its like sarcastic or whatever then its fine but yea just would prefer not to) also straight up lying to me to take advantage of me or manipulation (ive gotten better at steering clear of these things than before but yea) 

some other pet peeves are when people say “no offense but _________” which to me is pointless because how am i supposed to respond to something like “no offense but heres something offensive but since i’ve said no offense u cant really say anything back to me now ok cool bye” i’d rather just have u say whatever it is without the “no offense” part, also i havent had to deal with this in a while but when someone says “hope ur happy now” snidely after giving in or whatever (i guess this falls into passive aggressiveness) its also quite annoying

dont even get me started on parents who want to talk to me bc i seem successful and just want to weed out information etc so they can can take advantage of my experience or whatever, that stuff is annoying as hell (honestly, accusing someone of being good at something? and then asking how theyre good at it in a salty tone? bullshit) and ive gotten good at dodging questions; i know when ur being genuine or not :) (if u actually need help and are genuine, i am happy to help! but if ur just here to leech off me, bye!) and i also know when ur just hounding me on my standardized test scores & extracurriculars :) and i also know when you only talk to me bc it seems like im doing well and want to leech info and when you ignore me later bc u think ur better than me now and dont need me anymore :) 

pro tip: just compliment them and their children and say theyre doing well + some bs about working hard to be successful and they will be fine, laugh awkwardly, and then end the convo while dunking on capitalistic tendencies in ur head 

pro tip #2 for classmates who constantly take advantage of you: when it gets to a certain point, im serious, just keep saying you dont know–who cares if they think u’ve become dumb that was honestly never any of their business anyways. and if someone isnt pulling their weight in a group project let the teacher know and if the teacher doesnt care, assign people tasks and keep in mind the goal is to get them to do work–might damper ur pride but sometimes that just how it is. but for other things please remember to protect yourself and DONT let yourself get sucked into cheating scandals or whatnot bc someone wont be friends with you if u dont help them with x and y (aka do all the work for them), thats complete and utter bullshit and means they arent real friends to you, please go find other friends and dont tell yourself u have to put up with them bc u dont have anyone else. if u need a friend and cant find one u can come talk to me instead 

on another note when someone tells me they are disappointed in me that really hurts too :^) but thats different 

so yea thats about it im sorry this became a full blown rant oops

cap stuff, because i want some happy juice that im happy to make for myself.

as i often wrote before, cap loves to pet kosch, but she also loves physical attention herself. no one knows why, not even herself, but she enjoys it. sometimes she purrs or sighs and/or sleeps on the person petting her. racter does this often to get her to stop having anxiety for a time, much to duncans chagrin.

cap is definitely a big eater, but she doesnt have an iron stomach like gobbet. still, the two do challenge each other over meals, and sometimes tries to pick each others meals, like uneaten fries or wings. more often than not, this leaves to a utensil fight, from chopsticks to forks and spoons. more often than not, no one wins, because they had spilled their meals.

cap enjoys challenging is0 in the matrix, even tho she knows that is0 is a master compared to her. she is kinda envious that is0 has huge servers in her room to do whatever she can, while cap has to rely on outdated software that she does try to tune up, despite the risks of it breaking. cap’s computer is also just a brick, but its still p useful. is0 doesnt mind helping her update it, tho some of the pieces dont fit the casing of the computer, so they have to do some further digging.

cap sucks at writing haikus, but she enjoys listening to gaichu recite them and japanese poems and books. tho she doesnt speak the language, she learns about some phrases and how they are valued in his culture. on a different note, being aware that he needs to eat people to sustain himself, she does feel very uncomfortable by it, due to her childhood trauma as the game states for seattle, which applies to her, but she does sometimes help hunt down the worst kind of people for him. otherwise, she minds her own business and stays away from that.

being siblings, cap and duncan are p cool with each other, sometimes getting into fist fights to practice, tho she is much smaller and lighter than him, ofc. he still helps her get better, even if she cant get the hang of it properly, buts its only for her to be safe than sorry. they also watch trideo programs together when they are bored, and joke around about it. esp around action flicks and dramas. (cap hates dramas funny enough, so she only watches them with duncan.)

cap enjoys hanging around heoi, to talk to some of the residents, or party in club 88. she is an awful dancer and singer, but its a blast. she also helps reliable matt with his drones by fixing them, thanks to racter teaching her. and while she doesnt approve of him using a chip to keep up a facade, she lets it be as long as it doesnt cause any harm. she also jokes around by calling him “beautiful” in return for all the times he said it to her.

since she is a decker much like is0, cap spends time around max law to scan through his wares, while bantering with him. she tends to forget he is a lot older than she thinks, so she tends to treat him like a younger brother or kid, before remembering that lil fact. they also talk about the journey to the west novels, and various adaptions, like video games, because of his boat that is referenced to the monkey king.

cap is p chill with ka fai family, and as i said before, enjoys partying in the club. tho, sometimes, if she becomes too rowdy, henry picks her up and drags her out where duncan waits for her to bring her back to the dowager empress. duncan is never surprised, but is often disappointed.

on a funny note, cap is frightened by both kindly and bao, so she never dares to enter the mahjong palor. the same could be said with crafty xu, but for a different reason. she adores xu, but the smell of sage gives her migraines and reminds her of her time in prison. otherwise, she does like to take a sneak peek at some of the books xu sends to her, and often talks about gobbet’s particular ways of cooking.

cap finds ambrose the most mysterious, given that what he says about himself, may or may not be entirely true. but at least he helps her and the crew a lot by supplying them with medicine. ofc, since she is sometimes up to shenanigans that leaves her with a few injuries, he is the one she always goes to, or has to go to, no matter how much she tries to assure the crew that she is all right. esp when she gets sick.

on a side note, tho it isnt canon to the game, but in my stories, cap often speaks to lucky strike, because of their relations to racter, and cap’s own past. there are some things lucky keeps secret, esp about bleak, caps old friend that went missing, if not had passed. its also hard for cap to hide that she finds lucky very attractive, but she believes its because some of her mannerisms reminds her of racter. thing is, she always has been attractive to the dangerous ones, much like how she was attracted to some of her exes in the past.

least to say, cap never really had a healthy relationship. but it is what it is, living the kind of life she has.

there are some things about lucky and cap that i might explore in the future, as i feel there is a lot of potential there, esp given her attitude in srd. but i need more dialogue refs of lucky to capture her character for them. im not too big of a fan to get back into srd, but ill be glad to do it for those refs, and other things, so i can get a better idea on how to write her. but this is a huge if.

[maybe ill write some rac/cap/lucky bits, because im starting to ship lucky and ract, but i deeply loathe the love triangle trope. and i never like the idea of cheating relationships, plus, ract did say that leaving their old crew made lucky hate his guts to the point that she was howling for blood. im not one to write unhealthy relationships unless there is a point to it. i also keep thinking its canon for some reason, but racter cant connect with someone like that, tho i do think its entirely possible for him to had slept with a few people, lucky included... hm. i guess it depends on how i feel about it... sometimes, tho, i feel like im obligated to write it too. like, is this what people want? i wont lie, i did touch up on this sort of thing before, but only between lucky and cap, but it was entirely consensual between cap and ract to allow her to spend time with lucky. and cap is something of a saucy individual. im okay with poly/open relationships, only because its the best alt than cheating couples and stupid love triangles... tho, in this case, i assume lucky nor racter connect with people like that. well, i appreciate any thoughts about this, tbh. i know i wrote about it before, this sort of thing, but what are others thoughts on this case? will it be okay for me to leave the relationship just between racter and cap, or put lucky into the picture as well, given their history? or maybe just keep lucky as a side character that is not afraid of speaking her mind to cap, about how things go in heoi and how racter may just leave her like he did before.

honestly speaking, id much rather let racter deal with cap only, instead of getting into something intense with lucky. ive read too many stories about unprompted hate kisses and rebounds, and i want to do something that isnt that. i just worry ill disappoint people... tho i have no reason as to why i do. i just feel that this is something i *have* to do, if that makes sense.

“...I always knew Diggory would win, he was always getting the highest marks, can’t say he didn’t deserve it,” Percy finished, sitting down on the couch that was facing his parents. 

The whole group of adults were there, once again celebrating their firstborns’ birthdays.

“Good for him,” Sirius waved a hand as if trying to scare an annoying fly. “What I really want to know is who this mystery guy you went to the Yule ball is, is he attractive?”

Percy smirked, he shrugged a little. “Yeah, I guess he was.”

“He’s Erick’s cousin,” Mel continued, she was absently playing with her cat while Harry was looking at them from his place on the floor with a sweet expression.

“Erick Flint?” Sirius raised a brow, his smile grew. “That’s my boy! So? When are we going to meet him?”

“Why didn’t you invite Erick to stay this time, Mel?” Her mother questioned. “I thought he would like to come...”

“Oh, he decided to go camping with his girlfriend.”

“What?” Remus frowned. “He was a girlfriend?”

“They started dating last week,” Mel smiled. “She’s a muggle, really nice girl…”

“I thought he had a crush on you?” Sirius raised a brow.

“No he doesn’t,” Harry replied with a huge satisfied grin. “They’re just friends.”They’re just friends.”

“Er…” Percy intervened, deciding to save Mel from the awkward questioning. “Erick’s cousin and I… I’m not — it was just for the night, dad, we’re not dating.”

“Oh,” Sirius blinked, quickly forgetting all about Mel. “Yeah okay, you’re a Black, that was expected.”

His son frowned. “What’s that supposed to mean? I don’t fool around with people!”

“It’s in your veins, though,” Sirius taunted.

“Stop trying to corrupt our child!” Persephone pinched his forearm. “He’s not like you.”

“I was just — wait, what did you say?” The man pouted.

“Anyway,” Percy rolled his eyes, “my date wasn’t nowhere near the craziest thing that happened at the ball…”

His little grin reappeared as he turned to look at his two best friends. The effect was immediate, Harry’s head snapped upwards and his eyes widened, Mel dropped the ribbon she’d been twirling around and stared at Percy like a scared cat.

“Really?” Emily, who was sitting next to her daughter, smiled. “What happened?”

“Yeah, what happened?” Remus looked up from the prophet he’d been reading, “I was there and I don’t remember anything crazy happening?”

Mel and Harry weren’t dating yet, after the ball she had decided that Harry needed some time to get his shit together. He had to prove to her that he would not go back to being a prat. The condition was this: Finish their fourth year without any detentions and then it was a deal. 

He’d succeeded (sort of, he’d gotten two detentions only, which was honestly an achievement), but since Matthew was still pretty hostile towards Harry whenever he did anything remotely flirty towards her, Mel was waiting for the start of the next year to actually date him.

Percy tried to stretch the time as much as he could just to see his friends suffer, when he decided it was enough, he looked back at the adults and continued innocently. 

“Someone vomited at the foot of the staircase, no one knows how did they spike the drinks but I believe Snape took care of it, maybe that’s why you didn’t hear, uncle Moony.”

“Talking about school,” Mel was quick to intervene, sending Percy a glare. “We’re starting our O.W.L.s this year. Are they really that difficult?”

Harry groaned, falling back on the carpet. Mel’s cat immediately curled on his chest.

“C’mon, Mel, we just got out of school! Why are you thinking about that already?”

“No, she’s right,” Remus admitted. “You should start to prepare for it, at least mentally, the grades you get after this will decide what kind of jobs you can aspire to have in the future.”

“Have you kids thought about that?” Persephone asked them.

“I’d love to be a Magizoologist like my mum,” Mel smiled. “Or an Unspeakable like dad, but that’s too much work and I don’t know if I’d be able to handle it.”

“Oh, please,” Percy rolled his eyes. “You and Hermione are the top students of our year, shut up already.”

Mel stuck out her tongue, but she smiled afterwards.

“What about you, kid?” Emily nudged Harry’s leg, he sat up, much to Grey’s annoyance who jumped away from him with a short hiss.

“Dunno, maybe I’ll be a stay-at-home parent like my dad,” He smirked.

“Well, do you have the money to be it?” Mel raised a brow. “Because your father’s rich, but you’re not.”

Harry frowned, behind him the group of adults tried their best not to laugh.

“Well okay then, I don’t know, maybe a Quidditch player, or a curse-breaker like Ron’s brother,” He shrugged. “Something cool.”

“I don’t know what I want,” Percy said thoughtfully. “I just know that I’d love to live like my uncle Regulus.”

“Did someone say my name?” 

The dark-haired man entered the room, behind him Lily, James, Jenna and Matthew followed. By the sound of screams in the kitchen, the rest of the children had also returned to the house.

“I did,” Percy smiled. “I was saying that I’d like to have your work.”

Sirius, who had fallen into a silent contemplation when his son spoke, suddenly realized something. 

“Hey, Reggie, what do you do?”

“What do you mean?” Regulus asked politely.

“Your work. I don’t think I’ve ever heard you talking about it.”

Regulus smiled, a hint of mystery adorning the gesture. 

“Oh,” He took a short breath and tilted his head thoughtfully, “you know, some of this, some of that…”

He turned around and went back into the kitchen, Sirius looked slightly alarmed. 

“He didn’t answer my question,” He stared at his wife. “Please tell me you know what his work is?”

“Huh,” Persephone tilted her head, “I don’t know... He’s probably just messing with you, you know how he is, I’ll ask him later.”

Sirius nodded, but he didn’t stop staring at his brother for the rest of the day.

The older kids continued to talk about the different professions they could study, Persephone then got a brilliant idea, and she shared it with the rest.

“Hey, Tonks just joined our line of Aurors a week ago,” She mentioned. “I could tell her to come for your birthday and talk to you about all the stuff she had to do to become one, and maybe she could clear up some of your doubts too, Mel, I mean, it’s not the same as being Unspeakable…”

“We’d love that,” Mel beamed. “I already went to mum’s work last week, and I have to admit it’s pretty tough to beat, but I love Tonks, maybe she’ll be able to change my mind.”

“I hope not,” Matthew raised a brow. “I prefer you looking after some nifflers than mingling around with what we have at the Ministry.”

“You know that if you say that it’s only going to make her want to work there more?” James smirked. 

“Mel’s not like that,” Her father frowned. “She’s got enough common sense to know what’s good for her.”

“Sure she does,” Percy mumbled, Harry discretely nudged his ribs.

“Talking about what’s good,” Persephone inched closer to her son with a knowing smile. “How did your plan go, love?”

Percy had talked to his mother about his crush, and Persephone had been extremely supportive, she’d met Hermione a few times during the kids birthdays through the years but she knew her enough from hearing Mel’s stories, Persephone adored Hermione.

“What plan?” Sirius looked at them in curiosity. “What are you two plotting?”

“Don’t worry your pretty, little head, Sirius,” Persephone kissed his cheek. “It’s nothing… is it, Percy?”

The boy smiled tensely at his mother and shook his head shortly, not wanting to make a big deal out of it. The woman frowned, but she didn’t try to insist. If her son needed her, he would talk to her, he always did, if not, she trusted that he’d be smart enough to handle it.

November 1995

“C’mon, Percy, is not that hard,” Lyra shook him slightly. “Just ask her!”

“So she can reject me in public?” He scoffed, pulling the scarf tighter around his neck and watching as the puff of air turned white in front of his nose. “No, thanks.”

Ariana and Lyra had decided to be Percy’s personal matchmakers, ever since Ariana put two and two together last year when she realized it was Hermione whom Percy wanted, she wasted no time and told Lyra, who was ready to be her brother’s saviour.

He was usually the one with the brilliant plans, so having the opportunity to outdo him in something that was obviously so important for him was something Lyra needed to get right, but her brother was currently being an annoying piece of work.

“She won’t reject you, P!” Ariana pouted, almost running to keep up with the Blacks’ quick steps. “She’s so nice! She’ll love the idea!”

“Girls, it’s sweet that you’re trying to help me but I don’t need this.”

“You spend all your time with Mel and Harry, that can’t be healthy,” Lyra made a face. “I mean they’re fun and all, but c’mon, there’s a reason why people hate third-wheeling…”

“I hang out with the Weasleys too, and Erick as well,” He argued. “And with you…”

“Yeah but that’s only outside the classrooms, during class you’re with Mel and Harry all the time!”

“When there’s no snogging. See? I’m a smart bloke.”

Lyra rolled her eyes. To be honest, she was happy for her friends, but ever since they’d started dating the drama had stopped entirely, and it was sorely missed by the younger side of their friend group.

“One more time, Percy, that’s all we’re asking,” Lyra pouted. “Please? For me? No, no — For YOU! I just want you to be happy!”

“And I think you and Hermione would make a lovely couple,” Ariana beamed. “I think she’s the best girlfriend you could get.”

Percy looked down at the two girls who couldn’t even reach his shoulder and groaned, throwing his head back as he let them drag him into the Great Hall.

“Fine!” He gave in. “But as soon as she rejects me you two will stop nagging alright?”

“Deal,” Lyra smiled.

Ariana let out a cute joyful noise, and she skipped all the way towards the Gryffindor table, wanting to witness the start of a new romance.

“Hey, ‘Mione,” Percy said calmly, sitting down next to her. 

Lyra and Ariana sat at his right and both smiled at him encouragingly, no one was paying attention to them, everyone was submerged in their own conversations. Hermione looked up from her book and smiled at Percy.

“Hi.”

“I was wondering,” He looked away and started to pile food on his plate just to have an excuse to not maintain eye contact. “What do you think about going to the last Hogsmeade visit of the year together?”

“Oh,” Hermione raised her eyebrows. “I think that’d be great.”

Percy stopped his movements and stared at her. “Really?”

“Yes,” Her smile grew, she turned around and nudged Mel’s shoulder. “You heard that? Perseus’ asking if we’d like to go all together to the next Hogsmeade visit.”

“Oh,” Mel’s head appeared at Hermione’s left, she was frowning slightly. “You’re sure, Paddie? You’re always saying how you love going to those on your own.”

“Yeah, because it’s the only break you get from all of us and bla bla bla,” Cassia commented from across the table. “Which is honestly insulting, you don’t even hang out that much with Ivy and me.”

“If I did I would lose my mind after half a day,” He raised a brow.

The twins grinned at his comment, he turned to look at Ariana and Lyra for help.

The girls shared a look, Lyra wasn’t expecting this, but Hermione hadn’t rejected him, and maybe they could leave them alone at some point. Yes, she had this under control. The girl smiled confidently and shrugged. 

“Well, I don’t mind spending time with you, and we won’t see Hermione nor the Weasleys during the holidays, so we can seize this opportunity to make our own pre-Christmas party?”

The large -very large- group of friends talked about it for the rest of the lunch hour. Lyra could tell this was deeply bothering her older brother. 

Okay, maybe things had gotten a little out of control, but they could still find a way to fix this.

So things were going remarkably great for everyone except for Percy.

Harry and Mel were that unbelievable cheesy couple that you see in every Christmas commercial brought to life, the Weasley twins had decided to take the Potter twins under their wing and were now taking them to get some stuff from Zonko’s, even though Cassia and Ivy had already bought half of the store during their first visit last October.

Ron and Ariana had strangely grown fond of each other after the ball, however, that was normal in Ariana, what was weird was how Ron would always try to make her laugh and invite her places. 

Percy didn’t know if the others were aware of it, but it was rather obvious that Ron had a huge crush on Mel’s sister.

Lyra and Ginny were doing most of the talking, and Lyra would often throw anxious glances his way that he was blatantly ignoring, there was a package on the inner pocket of his cloak, but he wasn’t going to give it to Hermione in front of their friends.

Luck finally smiled down at him when Harry and Mel entered a small shop to buy some presents for their parents, Ginny and Lyra were the only ones left but they were engaged in their own conversation, not even looking at Percy and Hermione (Ron and Ariana had vanished at some point, saying something about wanting to buy stuff for the party), he decided that it was now or never.

“Hermione?” 

“Hmm?” She looked away from the store’s display and abruptly realized it was only the two of them.

“I… here,” Percy grabbed a hold of the neatly wrapped present and handed it to her. “Merry Christmas.”

“Oh,” The girl looked down at the present, a pink flush painting her cheeks as she took it with a shaky hand. “I… thanks, Perseus. Had I known I would’ve brought your gift with me too…”

“Oh, I just got this,” Percy quickly explained. “I wasn’t carrying him when we left the castle, it’s just… well, open it, I’ll explain afterwards.”

Hermione nodded, suddenly her hands were clumsier than ever, but she managed to rip the paper and quickly found the cover of a beautiful book she immediately recognized.

“Oh my,” She gasped. “How did you know?”

“You told us you wanted to buy it when we were thirteen, but it was too expensive or something,” He shrugged. “I noticed you still hadn’t bought a copy, because you usually ramble to us when you finish a book you really like, and you hadn’t mentioned this one ever since that first time. I figured you didn’t have it, I saw it when we were on our way to the Three Broomsticks and I went back and got it for you. I hope you like it.”

He realized he was rambling until he was done talking, Percy hated rambling, so he was internally scolding himself for that when Hermione took a deep breath.

“That’s so sweet,” She said.

Something snapped in him at the sight of the girl, she wasn’t doing anything that could be considered special, but his heart was still pounding, and he still had the urgent need to hold her close. Enough was enough.

“I’m done being quiet, Hermione,” Percy heaved a sigh. “I like you, definitely not in a friendly way. I’ve liked you since I was thirteen and I don’t think it’ll go away.”

Hermione said nothing, and he rambled for a second time that day.

“I know you think I’m a flirt, and last year Joseph was aware of my crush on you so he just took me in a very unofficial way, so I’m not a heartbreaker either. Merlin, I haven’t even had my first kiss yet!” He exclaimed in a very child-like manner. “All I’m asking is that you at least try to see me under a new light — the real one and not the one others have lead you to believe I am —”

Hermione stood on her tiptoes and pulled Percy’s face down, placing a firm kiss on his lips. She let go of him and stepped back, completely red. 

“That was my first kiss too,” The girl said bashfully. 

Percy stood there unsure of what had just happened, mouth slightly agape as the blood crept up his neck and cheeks.

“Done!” Mel’s voice said behind them. “Time to go back to school, I guess...”

“Mate, you’re alright?” Harry asked, examining his face. “Maybe we should pay a visit to Mel’s grandad so you can warm up… your face looks weird.”

“I’m fine,” He said hoarsely. “I’m brilliant… Hermione?”

He looked at her inquisitively, her smiled was enough to ease his intrusive thoughts.

“Never been better.”

The private party somehow ended up being a “every-student-above-thirteen” party, luckily for them, the Room of Requirement quickly grew in size, the food was plenty and delicious, and the music was coming from somewhere above their heads, but no one had any idea of exactly where.

Everyone was there, except for the teachers of course, even the prefects, Headboy and Headgirl were having the time of their lives. It was in this party that two things became obvious to the friend group: One, Ron was gone over Ariana, though it was unclear whether she reciprocated or not, and two, Percy only had eyes for Hermione.

The students that had been closely following Percy and Ron around the castle in hopes of getting a date were quickly disappointed, but Lyra and Ariana seemed happier than ever. The young Black had no idea if Ari was happy for herself or for Percy, but it didn’t matter much, what was important was that things were finally falling into place.

“What are you watching?” Fred Weasley stood next to her, trying to look in the same direction as the girl. “Hang on — is that your brother?”

“Yes,” She smiled.

“Blimey, who knew he could smirk like that,” Fred snorted. “He’s really trying to charm his way in with Hermione, isn’t he?”  

“Looks like it,” Lyra admitted, taking a sip of her butterbeer. “Your brother’s doing his fair amount of trying with Ari as well…”

Fred laughed, nodding blithely. “Yeah, the git has been drooling about her all summer, asking us if he should write to her or just wait to go back to school.”

“What did you tell him?”

“Told him to shut up or we would glue his tongue to the roof of his mouth,” He smirked. “He didn’t actually need advice, he was just whining… I mean, look at them, does it look like Ariana isn’t interested?”

“Honestly? I have no clue, neither does Mel and that’s saying something,” Lyra raised a brow. “Her crush on Erick’s gone, but we can’t tell if she likes Ron because they were friends before and I think that somehow that helped her, she’s not nervous around him...”

“That or she doesn’t like him and doesn’t want to hurt him,” Fred said, “if I’m honest I think it’s the latter.”

Lyra slapped his chest lightly and he laughed again. 

“Don’t be mean!” She reprimanded, though she was smiling too. “Ron’s really nice, he’s grown out of his annoying ways.”

“Like being a flirt?”

“I believe all Weasleys are flirts,” She grinned. 

“You’re right about that, love,” Fred winked. 

Lyra snorted and walked away to get more food, just as she was reaching the table, Percy and Hermione also arrived, and the girl was laughing at something the boy was saying.

“You’re ridiculous, you know?” She shook her head, grabbing two butterbeers and handing one to the boy.

Percy’s grin was an exact copy of his father’s. Lyra had heard before all about his dad’s charm when he was younger, and she’d seen pictures too. Percy wasn’t a copy of the man, but he was damn close to it.

“Well, I made you laugh,” He winked, taking a sip of his drink in a swift, casual movement. “It’s worth it — Did you know you have the prettiest laughter in this castle?” 

Lyra rolled her eyes, but she laughed under her breath, she really liked watching her brother being all confident and talkative, it was a nice change.

It was hard to tell whether if Hermione had blushed at his compliment or not with the dim ilumination of the room, but she was definitely enjoying the attention. 

“You know,” Lyra spoke, leaning over the table. Percy and Hermione looked at her, abruptly reminded that they weren’t the only two people in the room. “I know the whole point of the party was to celebrate Christmas with you and the Weasleys because we wouldn’t be able to see you during the holidays, but I bet my mum would love to have you around? Dad as well.” 

Percy’s eyes widened in surprise, he was about to speak when Hermione responded. 

“I would love that!”

His head moved so fast for a moment Lyra thought he’d hurt himself.

“You would?” He asked. 

“I would have to talk to my parents, but I’m sure they wouldn’t mind, they wanted to go skiing, and I’m terrible.”

Percy laughed, he was beaming. “I’ll write my parents then, I’m sure they’ll be happy to take you in… but I warn you, my dad will tease us endlessly.”

“You can stay in my room — Oh! We can make a sleepover with the twins, Mel and Ari! That’d be fun…”

“Of course,” Hermione responded, but her eyes were still on Percy. 

“Okay…” Lyra say, taking the hint. “I’ll go see if I find someone in this bloody room that’s not trying to get in someone else’s pants…”

“That’s brilliant, Ly,” Percy responded, grabbing Hermione’s hand and guiding her towards the opposite side of the room.

By the time the party ended, Percy and Hermione were oficially dating.

She’s undoubtedly one of my favourite characters here, and for good reason. She’s perceptive, calculating, enchanting, and perhaps most importantly of all, utterly terrifying. I adored your application from start to finish, Becky - you captured every dark ambition, every siren song, every scheme and subterfuge that Lucrezia’s ever used to her advantage. Femininity is her weapon, and she knows exactly how to use it. Honestly, I could feel the beat of her heart in every single word you wrote. What drew you to this character? |

There’s blood on your hands and it won’t wash out. There’s blood on your hands and it glistens, deep and dark and vicious. There’s blood on your hands and it whispers like a friend, like a confidant, like a lover.

There’s blood on your hands – and you know this is the price to pay for greatness.

You will build your empire piece by piece until a crown of power rests against your brow. If the streets of Verona must run with ichor, so be it. You are the flower and the serpent. You are becoming and unbecoming. You are forging yourself anew until the person looking back at you in the mirror is a reflection you deem worthy.

Docile smiles have never been a currency you can afford to use. When you were younger, bright and teetering on the edge of foolishness, your mother and father had wished for a doe-eyed daughter. Instead, you had come home from school with a bruise marking your face and a blade-sharp smile cutting across your mouth ( the other girl had looked far worse ). Makeup had covered the purpling skin from friends and family, your mother chiding you with a loss for how to tame her daughter. Your parents had done all they could to brush aside your misdemeanours. This is what happens when you grow up in a house which thrives on concealment: you get good at hiding your sins.

You feel yourself being picked apart. The decadent dance of decaying debutante. You must shed your snakeskin and free the heart-thrum-fresh creature which lays ready and waiting beneath. Your heart turns to a sticky dark mess that slides through the fingers of anyone who dares to try and save it.

You were never built to be soft.

Venom pools in your mouth, tart on the tongue. Dark eyes shine bright in the nighttime, flashing a smile to distract from danger. Laughter echoes down a cobbled passageway and silence pools along stone grooves soon after, matching the rust-coloured criss-cross patterns that decorate your palm as soap and water cleanse you of tonight’s trouble.

Marriage. Misdemeanours. Murder. Perhaps there’s a reason they call you Lady M beyond simply carrying your husband’s moniker with you. Binding yourself to him had been necessary to get where you are now but it had not been his trust you sought to gain but that of Cosimo. The best laid plans are those that take time. You know how to lay in wait, patient when necessary, and those who do not perform as you wish them to are cut loose from their marionette strings.

There is nothing you wouldn’t do to achieve what you desire.

– Lucrezia Falco is the amalgamation of some of my favourite characters, including her namesake; Narcissa Malfoy; Marisa Coulter; Rebecca de Winter; Carmine Zuigiber; Melanie Cavill; Estella Havisham; Amy Dunne. I’m definitely drawn towards the idea of Lucrezia embracing the darker parts of herself and pushing her boundaries. I’m always a sucker for a character who stirs gossip and whispers in people’s ears so I have no doubt she’ll bring her fair share of drama with her, leaving anyone who suffers for it in her wake. A temptress at heart, she’s particularly adept at inciting trouble.

What is a future plot idea you have in mind for the character? |

I. ASCENT. You are destined for more. You can feel it calling to you like a siren song billowing up from murky depths. Every ounce of praise is gathered, wrung out and collected from those above you. Hierarchy is merely a concept devised to provide a clear pathway for people like you. The top is evident; the means for ascent less so. – Lucrezia sets her sights high. The absolute pinnacle of her goals is to achieve a high level rank, be it Boss, Underboss or Advisor. She isn’t fussy. I have no doubt this will put her at odds with Juliana ( who is somewhat her foil ) but who doesn’t love some tension? Vivienne and her influence is potentially tricker for Lucrezia to deal with but I envision her attempting to carve out a mentorship-type role for herself in the heart of Ms Sloane. She’ll be quick to pitch her desire to become something more and, whilst it would be great to see her achieve it, I can’t help but wonder what she may do should she be denied.

> Vaguely and conceptually curious about the idea of her becoming a hitman to take the spot Orion left behind but she’d certainly be a bit of a wildcard option, all things considered. Very femme fatale, very serpent-under-the-flower.

II. BONDS. You can feel him watch you, eyes tracking your movements. Lust occasionally sparks but love remains absent, settling like quiet of your shared abode when his conversation starter falls flat at your feet. It is not his fault, not really. You are repulsed by the idea of letting him know you well enough to know your weak spots. To let him in would be to surrender. The organ beneath your ribs serves its purpose keeping you alive and you shan’t let it soften for the sake of a husband who wants to know the woman who shares his bed better. – Ah, Mikael. Married for his connections and potential. Lucrezia is purposefully preventing herself from having any feelings towards him that aren’t inherently carnal but even those have begun to dry, the thrill of what they once had having risked returning to routine. I don’t think it’s impossible for them to fix what they have but it would take Lucrezia learning to be vulnerable in front of him which, after ten-or-so years of marriage, may admittedly never happen. For now she is satisfied keeping him ( what she assumes to be ) happy so that he doesn’t grow tired of her. It’d be interesting and very Shakespeareanly-apt were he to get wrapped up in her devious plans. For better or for worse, and all that… Perhaps they will end up breaking apart or perhaps they will overcome their current lack of love for one another. Either way, it’ll be messy.

III. MANIA. You wipe the blade against silk, a dark smear across fine fabric. Information is precious and once you’ve plucked what you need from a mouth that offers what it can in amongst strangled sobs, you dispose of the source before others can make use of it. Clean. Precise. An emissary is not expected to get their hands dirty like this but you do what you can to get noticed by the right people. And the wrong ones. But your sins are beginning to take a toll, gnawing their way into the blackened husk of your heart. Before long, you may begin to unravel.

– Emissaries trade in whispers but Lucrezia knows she needs to get ahead of the rest in order to stand out from the crowd. She’ll do whatever it takes to get information and secure deals. We love drama in this house so I am absolutely here for her getting in too deep. The more she tests her morality, the weaker her conscience grows. She treats it like an experiment to see whether she’ll ever reach a point of breaking and thus far is yet to see any signs of such. If there is a price to pay for these inhuman acts, it will be her sanity.

IV. CONTROL. You will take what is offered. You will keep climbing. You won’t turn back and you certainly won’t let anything get in your way. Or anyone. You need those ranked higher than you to look on you favourably. The thought of someone close to Cosimo thinking you are incapable makes your skin crawl. With recent deaths and absences leaving gaping holes in the mob hierarchy, you need to do all you can to ensure that those who fill them adore you.

– The higher she attempts to rise, the further the fall. Lucrezia knows she cannot achieve power on her own; she needs supporters. It will take more than a well placed compliment and a brush of her fingertips. She needs to climb inside their minds; carve out a space for herself to sit amongst dark thoughts and ensure the loyalty of her fellow Capulets. Once inspiring this in a chosen few, she will rely on them to protect her and behave in a way that snubs out the sparks of any other bright things daring to climb the ranks. As soon as a new Advisor is chosen, should it be someone she doesn’t take kindly to, she may very well start fanning the embers of mistrust in their abilities. A whisper here, a comment there. A reputation can take a long time to build but can be toppled overnight by the right sharp-smiling disarming woman.

Are you comfortable with killing off your character? | Not currently but that could certainly change if it helped with the overall plot!

IN DEPTH

In-Character Interview:

I. ) At half past nine, in the wake of Mikael going to work and leaving her alone ( precisely the way she likes it ) in the shell of their home, Lucrezia dons her gym wear and goes for a jog. The route is specific. The timing is immaculate. She passes the wife of the mayor like clockwork, passing a smile in her direction each morning until smiles become greetings and greetings become stopping to coo at the child in her stroller.

Eventually this turns to weekly lunches and invitations to various social events. They all dance the way she desires, puppets dangling from strings caught in her hands. It’s at the book club that she learns the most; gossip spilling from the wine-loosened lips of women in power or women married to power. Falling into the latter camp isn’t so bad when it gives you a free step up in the world. Lucrezia knows this fact well.

“But is that really your favourite place in Verona?” the Capulet asks as they talk of unexciting places nestled snuggly in her Don’s territory, seeking a location fit to hold an entirely over-the-top birthday party for the mayor’s wife. She’s only been half-listening, waiting for the perfect moment to chip in with her opinion. Her valued opinion. That was important. Charm the right people into believing you have their best interests at heart and they won’t see that your own motives lay at the centre of all you do.

“What about Teatro Nuovo?” she suggests, seemingly off-handedly, gaze fixing on the mayor’s wife with familiarity and a glimmer of private acknowledgement, as though only she knew precisely where would be best. Lucrezia wouldn’t dare spend an unnecessary amount of time in Montague territory typically but this particular excuse to snoop around the building wasn’t one to turn her nose up at. With high profile politicians and their security in attendance, she’ll bet her luck that the Montagues wouldn’t dare to target her. “There’s an elegance to the theatre. Grandeur. And who doesn’t love an opera-masquerade themed party?”

II. ) “I’m trying to get a better idea of Mr Falco’s routine. What does your typical day look like?” Mikael’s PA asks, far too eager to please their boss in a way that Lucrezia would like to think only she knows the art of.

The edges of her mouth lift, hiding her irritation at the prying behind a well-practiced false smile. “To begin, Mikael and I wake up and enjoy some early morning cardio.” The lie leaves her lips, accompanied by a laugh to put the other at ease. Her wifely facade remains; she’s used to putting on this charade. It is the blush that stains the PA’s cheeks that marks her success. “And then he will leave for work and I attend a yoga class or meet a friend for breakfast.” Lie. It’s more likely to be a negotiation, securing a deal with someone whose attention lingers on her just as much as it lingers on the examples of the firearms the Capulets can offer. “I’ll typically spend some time running errands or planning a dinner party before lunch which is either eaten alone at home or out. The afternoon is for shopping or a leisurely stroll.” Another lie. Afternoons are for organising reports to give to Vivianne. Who is following through with their half of agreements? Who is falling short and needs a follow up visit from her less-charming friends? “And then Mikael will return from work and we’ll have an enjoyable evening.”

Lucrezia conjures a vision of perfection without giving it a second thought. She neglects to mention the hours spent at The Twelfth Night; or those coaxing whispers from unyielding mouths; or those scrubbing the blood of another from the beds of her fingernails.

III. ) “What has been your biggest mistake thus far?” The bespectacled marriage counsellor asks. Beside Lucrezia, Mikael fidgets. She reaches for his hand, curling her fingers around it. His wedding band is warm to the touch. He stills as he always does when she touches him as though surprised by his own wife’s affection. Predictable.

Agreeing to attend this meeting, she thinks to herself. She’d slammed a door in Mikael’s face when he’d suggested they try and talk things through with a therapist present yet agreed to attend for the sake of keeping up appearances ( he talks to Everett about their relationship, she knows this much ). “I once served garlic hors d'oeuvres at a party with an orchestra.” Lucrezia answers. “Such a bad idea when everyone had to stand so close to speak to one another.”

Her revenge on her husband’s attempt to meddle with their relationship is to be had afterwards as she says goodbye, a hand on the therapist’s arm and a sultry tone drifting from her lips. When she glances towards the door, she meets Mikael’s line of sight.

IV. ) “What has been the most difficult task asked of you?” Cosimo’s question wafts towards her on a tendril of cigarette smoke that catches in the sunlight streaming into his office through slits in the blinds.

Inwardly, Lucrezia wants to scream. Very little can make her speak genuinely, truthfully, from the heart. This line of questioning makes it feel as if he were trying to climb inside her head and understand who she was. She doesn’t care for thinking about her shortcomings, nor does she have any intention of allowing Cosimo to do the same.

She deploys one of her usual tactics. Raises her hand slowly to pull the cigarette from Cosimo’s lips and hold it to her own, taking a drag before returning the lipstick-stained end to him. She exhales slowly. “I’ll tell you when you give me something difficult to do.” Her brow raises in challenge, settling the boss with a steady stare. Test me, she wants to tell him. I want to feel alive.

V. ) “What are your thoughts on the war between the Capulets and the Montagues?” Everett asks her the day she leaves his decina, chin held high in light of her promotion to emissary, no longer trapped beneath the heel of another man’s shoe. The question is posed casually but Lucrezia knows him well enough by now that Everett rarely acts without purpose – and that purpose would be sat snuggly against the morals that keep his spine straight and his expression guarded.

Lucrezia turns the question over in her mind cautiously as though it were a trap, steel jaw ready to spring shut. A smile slinks slowly across her lips as she closes the space between them until a metre of polished wooden floor is what keeps them apart ( along with a history of unresolved differences ). She squares her gaze with his. “All this time spent teaching me and you still can’t figure out what goes on inside my head, can you?” Something that isn’t quite a laugh escapes her mouth. The sound is silky, amusement winding itself around it like a serpent. “What would you like me to say? That the war is necessary? That, like you, I got involved in all this because of someone I love?”

It doesn’t take a telepath to know that Vivianne springs to the forefront of both of their minds. An emissary is only as good as her intel and sufficient background information was always a valuable arsenal to carry. Her reassignment had not been born from luck; she knows exactly what she’s doing.

Acrylic fingernails reach to brush an imaginary piece of lint from the shoulder of Everett’s suit before turning swiftly to leave, her answer falling behind her as she strides out of the room. “It’s about time we fucking won, Everett.”

Connections:

THE SPOUSE: Mikael Falco. As much as it pains her that the man she married can’t find the strength to stand up to her when necessary, she still clings to a thread of hope that she can turn him into the person she wishes he was. Headstrong. Lethal. As hungry for more as she is. The Falco name is a pretty one and would surely look just as beautiful sitting alongside the most powerful families of Verona, no?

THE ADVERSARY: Calina Sokolova. This town isn’t big enough for the both of them. Calina seems to slip through life with casual elegance whereas Lucrezia feels like her nails have left imprints in everything, working hard for what she deserves. She waits with bated breath to hear news of the Montague emissary’s fall from grace, eager for the whispers to land on the shell of her ear first so she can watch it all burn down in flames.

THE ANNOYANCE: Everett Craven. There’s fun to be had in finding new subtle ways to torment a man like Everett. She waits for the twitch of his brow or the tick of his jaw, hoping to be the cause of the vexed sigh that leaves his mouth. His seriousness mixed with his influence over Mikael are, irritatingly, things she’s never been able to break. And not for a lack of trying.

THE PUPIL: Delilah Bello. She is not one to offer a shoulder to cry on but, equally, she is not one to disregard those who do whatever it takes to stay ahead. Delilah’s choice of tactics may have been misguided and Lucrezia certainly doesn’t find the soldier’s attempts to deny what happened in any way productive – but perhaps she simply needs steering in the right direction. Making the best of a bad situation can be an enjoyable pastime when done right.

THE SOURCE: Mona Chen. Mona certainly knows how to string together a pretty sentence, words shining through the darkness that they have both made their home in. Lucrezia enjoys collecting the payment owed to Cosimo; enjoys having the privilege of hearing the secrets whispered to her as if some vessel for the truth. She turns the information over in her head, admiring it, deciding what should and shouldn’t be passed on. There’s power in that.

THE SEDUCED: Open to anyone. Lucrezia has them hooked around her finger, but unlike post-marriage Mikael they prove to be much more of a fun plaything. She knows they want what they can’t have but she’s beginning to get a taste of her own medicine. Being with them is like playing with fire, dangerous but enthralling. She won’t cheat on Mikael but she might just test a few boundaries.

THE SANCTUARY: Open to Capulets or neutrals. Even someone like Lucrezia needs a safe place to rest. Somewhere she can drop the many charades and be herself. This person is, perhaps, the only soul she has ever felt truly at peace beside. Time is what strengthened their bond, along with their fair share of helping one another out of tricky or dangerous situations.

THE TRICKED: Open to Montagues. She has no intention of harming them, for that would be counterproductive. They are a plaything, of sorts. An experiment to see what she can do, what she can achieve. When they first meet, she slips into a charade of fear. Pretends to be at their mercy if only for the sake of spinning her story: the terrified wife. A sob story can go a long way if you know how to play it.

Spoilers for the Homestuck Epilogue below.

First things first, i had caught up reading Homestuck on the exact day the Gigapause started (10/16/13). So long pauses and people arguing about canon was pretty common. Then the comic ended but later we got snapchats. Once the snapchats started coming people were unsure how ‘canon’ the snapchats were. Also    

i was surprised with how fast the rest of the Epilogue came out. I figured it would have been drip fed like the comic was but reading it now i can see why that was not the case. If you haven't read the Epilogue i have one thing to say.

PLEASE PAY ATTENTION TO THE CONTENT WARNINGS THEY ARE NOT JOKES.

With that out the way, i think the biggest shift in the Epilogue vs the actual comic is that everything is way more mature. While Homestuck was full of angsty, snarky teens and a lot of jokes, ironic and not, the Epilogue overall has a more somber, powerless mood to it.

Also one more thing, i do not have a fav character or ship. So that might be why im upset about how it is.

Now i read the Candy choice first so ill talk about that. Now as soon as i saw the juju i knew it was going to have an effect. And i was right, the juju makes people feel okay with their surroundings and so when John ate it he felt at ease with the chaos his life and friends were becoming. But hoo boy did everyone suck all around. 

i knew Gamzee was gonna be back and i was not wrong. i think the whole iVe bEeN GeTtIn mY MoThErFuCkIn rEdEmPtIoN On sO EvErYtHiN I Do iS GoOd was a funny bit but maaaaaan did it get a lil crazy. Jake has always been a doormat and easily manipulated. So nothing too new there but it was nice when he ran off with lil tavros. Also i guess hes the earth c equivalent to a kardashian.

 It really surprised me how fast Roxy got together with John. In fact the Candy Roxy is way different than the meat Roxy. i guess thats the juju at work. Rose was sick with an “illness” but soon after the candy was ate she got “better”. What actually happened was she stopped trying to open her mind to the infinite degree and just let herself live in the moment and be truly happy. It was nice to see her and Kanaya have a happy life, at least until everything went bad. As for Dirk i felt bad for him because he always had that whole meta textual self importance thing going on so when he offed himself i was like oh no. Its nice that him and Dave had bro-sesions.

And now time to talk about Jade, Dave, and Karkat. It feels like Dave and Karkat have mostly stayed the same with a few big differences.1) they both are a little less insufferable, 2) Karkat has accepted he is a leader and 3) their tip toeing around relationships was kinda annoying. Which brings me to Jade. She was butting into all three of their relationships trying to force them to admit feelings. While ive seen some people say Hussie killed Jade i personally dont think so. Jade was always a headstrong, stubborn person who would go after what she wanted and i mean she was on an island by herself for most of her life if she wants to have fun let her. 

Jane really went off the deep end. Which i dont think was so far off her canon personality in the comic. Her denying being xenophobic while being incredibly xenophobic was funny but also pretty real. While i didnt like they way she interacted with Jake it honestly fits in with what happens in the comic. (the trickster stuff, the crockercorp kidnapping). Her whole shadowy rise to hidden power was inevitable also i feel like she was really echoing the Condense on earth. Allowing Gamzee to spread his faith while funneling her wealth and fame into passing the policies and laws she wants. I do not think its out of character for her and Dirk to hate trolls since their lives were so affected by them. 

Johns depression clouding his judgement and making him not want to react was sad to read. It really felt like he was just drifting around, letting all of the situations and chaos just wash over him. So when he was talking to Terezi and she helped him make sense of things it was a nice turn of pace.

Speaking of Terezi, its sad how long she went chasing after (Vriska). As of this moment i dont really think the quadrant system is really in place anymore (at least relationships with humans in it). With John and Terezi talking to each other it really felt like blackrom.  “1F 1 W3R3 3V3R TO DO BL4CKROM 4G41N, 1T WOULD H4V3 TO B3 LOW K3Y”. It is sad her obsession with finding (Vriska) led to her dying in the void.

Seeing Aradia and Sollux was a surprise but they really didnt add much to anything (esp. Sollux). It was kinda funny how much of a dickhead Cade (Calliope Jade) was towards her. Cade was interesting. i really feel like she acts like she did in the comic. 

(Vriska) returning was also not a surprise. She THE most known character. Of course she would be back, but not by her own accord. She wants the spotlight, she HAS to have it. Now that she is trapped on earth c she is now out of canon and so she is out of the spotlight. Thats why she was wailing about needing to SEE it. I think its kinda funny she ends up having a quick fling with Gamzee, and he tries to sell her on his redemption arc bullshit. It really shows how far her obsession has let her fall.

And now its time for meat. Honestly im glad i read candy first because meat was really nice to read after candy. As i said with candy, i figured meat would be the more active of the two (duality like the cherubs). 

First off it was really nice to see how much Dave believes in Karkat and how he thinks Karkat would be leader earth c NEEDS. In Meat they still have their relationship drama with themselves and Jade. I really feel like shes slightly more direct in this one. After the blowup 

John dealing with Roses instructions, finding and bringing together the younger versions of themselves so they could go fight a younger Caliborn and getting sucked into the the house juju was not a surprise since its been theorized thats what would happen. Of course Rose did not warn him, or even tell him what to do. Even when the younger versions of Johns friends die and get hurt he still tries to save them. 

Jake is a very powerful figure in the new earth, he doesnt even realize it. Which leads to everyone trying to get him on their sides. I honestly feel like this is partly his page powers (but then again the classes and aspects dont mean all that much) but he has always been unconfrontational and a doormat. Dirk, Jane, Dave, and Karkat only want to use him for his ass and fame so they can further their agendas. 

i think its rather fitting that (Vriska) doesnt get to see how the battle against Lord English ended. It was GREAT to see Davepetasprite^2 make a comeback and fight Lord English. She KNOWS the final battle isnt her battle but she is still THE ONE who turns the tide. She’s the one who has brought the winning piece so its still a victory of hers by proxy. Also she does not have the talk with Vriska (rose and kanayas kid) on a clown throw pillow so she does not get to do the self reflection she needs. Instead she gets sucked into a black hole.

The Jane and Dirk combo was not surprising, they both had the hangups about Jake and i feel like it ended the same way. Once they got what they wanted it was no longer exciting, or mysterious. But reading the political sabotage and Dirks plans coming together made me realize he was using her for his own gains too. 

Now the whole Rose dying because her physical body couldn't contain the infiniteness of infinity was truly heartbreaking. Especially when Dirk was fucking with Kanaya. i do not know how much of Rose was being manipulated by Dirk and how much was her wanting to end her chronic suffering(2real4me). Addressing all of the....implications around those two. i really do not think they ran off to be together. i believe Rose is the first person Dirk has really connected with on a actual personal level. From what ive seen he does not really treat people as well... people. I think him and Rose are feeling the, “i am the only real person here and everyone else is a puppet” feeling John and Terezi was talking about. But unlike John, Dirk was never one to sit idly by, hes a mechanic after all. All the pieces have to be in place.

The whole bit with Cade and dirk taking control of the narrative was something i feel like has been building up for a long while. The unreliable narrator has been established a few times in the comic, in friendsim, and now in the epilogue. But it does raise a good question about who has been narrating the story and can they be trusted to give us the truth. We saw Dirk acknowledge that he is not unbiased and says things as he sees it. Cade says shes unbiased and just gives the whole truth but all i can think about is how she made Jane carefully cradle the juju and put it on the mantle. Watching Dirk outsmart Cade was defiently exciting to read. I cannot wait to see where all of this is leading to. 

Do i think thats the end of both of Davepetasprite^2 and Lord English? No, as the comic has always said,” Don’t turn your back on the body.” We dont know where they ended up but we’ll just have to wait for more to come out and i cant wait. Does Rose, Dirk, and Terezi (i guess) have an agenda, yes. Do i have any goddamn idea what that is? Nope, and im fine with that. Overall i enjoyed both of them.

i have known for a while that my relationship with my childhood “bff” was Bad but i have always been extremely hesitant to actually call it abusive. it feels melodramatic, like, i wasnt deeply scarred by it, and i dont want to be one of those people that cheapens the term to make a point (ex: tumblr ppl calling literally anything they dont like gaslighting). she was a jerk to me and manipulative and definitely not really my friend but i never felt like, trapped or scared or anything

so ive just been trying to itemize what she actually did because it doesnt feel that bad. this list turned out long but none of these things are like, inherently abuse theyre mostly just being a shitty person

-we usually did what she wanted to do, altho i have the most passive personality ever so thats not exactly unique to her. a lot of people dont notice if i dont like something because i dont say anything

-similarly was not particularly interested in what i was doing but expected me to remember everything she was up to including her ocs, her internet drama, and her revolving door of boyfriends/girlfriends. but she never asked about anything i was up to and when i brought something up she would make it clear she didnt care

-got mad if i was better at something than her, mostly about art or writing. like i remember she got really upset when i showed her something i wrote and i didnt get it at the time but i think she was jealous?

-would randomly lie about the dumbest shit (mostly video games) and then later if i believed her/didnt actively tell her it was bs she would laugh about how gullible i was. this was mostly when she was younger tho

-she def took advantage of my parents hospitality and made no move to pay them back. i mean i dont think she realized honestly and her parents were big on “take as much as you can get”

-didnt really notice when i was upset and didnt think of it as too serious (to be fair i am shit at expressing it anyway), i cant really remember any times she was super comforting to me, and she didnt take me seriously when i was mad (said it was “cute” once)

-once i went to college and started developing a spine she openly told me she didnt like the new me and she preferred me before i started working on my issues

-i tried to talk about stuff i didnt like in our relationship and it started out civil but once i pointed out she was mostly making excuses about how she “cant help it” she told me to get out of her house and sent me an im about being a bitch

-when i told her i got a girlfriend her response was to tell me she had a crush on me which was. pretty gross

when i list it all out it seems like a lot but most of it wasnt a big deal.

i mean i feel like a lot of this stuff was mostly because i didnt confront her about anything or express emotion and when i got any sort of kickback i would immediately drop the subject.

she was/is mentally ill which went untreated (and treatment was used as a threat, like, if you act up we will send you to an institution) and being abused by her stepdad. she called me up a few times threatening suicide and it was partly for attention but there was a real concern she would really do it. her life in general was real fucked up

I wanna be mad

I guess that’s what I can say. Even if it’s not true. I don’t wanna be mad. I don’t want to hate. I try to forgive. I try to forget. I try to move on. But I’m only human. And I’m a human controlled by the negative emotions. The ones nobody wants to feel. The ones I tend to feel too much. The curse of mental illness.

That all being said, in this case I’m having a very hard time not being mad. Not hating. Not forgiving, forgetting, and moving on. I keep trying. But the mountain of emotion, no matter how much I try, ceases to fall. Maybe it’s because I haven’t processed and addressed...the mountain in general. To which I say, I have talked about it before. With Patrick, with my mom, with my therapist, with my new therapist. And yet here I sit, still stewing in hatred and holding on to the past.

Thinking back to the past...the past past, like things that happened years ago. Not the stuff that’s going on now. I’ve moved past a few things. I’ve moved past all--literally all--the bullshit that I’ve gone through with Kendall and we’re all good now. I’ve moved past the messiness that was the ending of my relationship with Cal. I’ve accepted my father for the asshole that he is. I’ve accepted the shit that went down when I was younger and moved on with my life, knowing that I can’t change it.

So why is this different? Is it even different?

Maybe it’s different because I’m just over this bullshit and I was over it before it started. Maybe it’s because I’m 25 (was 23 when this fuckery started) and I went through this drama in high school. Maybe it’s because it has to do with my child. Maybe it’s because he is acting selfish, a trait that I cannot stand in people. Maybe it’s because he knew what was going on before and still didn’t care, making his selfishness in my eyes, even worse.

If you haven’t guessed, I’m talking about Nicholas [Last Name]. So much shit went down between learning I was pregnant and now that I just can’t let go and I don’t know why. Maybe because this is some serious shit to me. Maybe because it’s my child, the child I’ve been dreaming about and wanting and fearing I would never be able to have. Who knows really? Maybe I will by the time I’m finished typing.

It starts with him telling me that I should abort my child upon first learning that I was pregnant. Yes, that is right. When Nick learned I was pregnant, he told me to abort the thing. It was after he and Celia had “broken up for good” and Celia was going to move out. Patrick and I were set to move in with Nick and then the three of us were going to move to Wisconsin when the lease was up in March. But the problem with that was March was 8 months away and I wasn’t going to move to a new state while 8 months pregnant, away from my family and support. Nick’s opinion didn’t matter anymore. Everything was now my and Patrick’s choice to make and he just had to deal with it. But for him, he was inconvenienced and on his own to figure his shit out because we were too.

The next problem issue that I have was about a month later in October. I was already on my leave of absence because of the hyperemsis. Nick knew this. He also knew that Celia was having a panic attack or something at work and he wanted to be with her. But Julian was being a brat and he didn’t want to bring the demon child along. So he called me to watch Julian for a while so he could make sure Celia was okay. This one isn’t as bad as the others. But it still irks me. He called and asked if I could sit in the living room while Julian was in time out in his room. It was my decision to call Nick and see if the kid could come out and eat since he was calmer. It wasn’t that bad, I didn’t vomit while I was there and it wasn’t for that long. But it still happened and it still adds to the mountain.

Fast forward to around December if I’m not mistaken, as I was wearing the Christmas joggers that Patrick bought me, and I went to the ER for the second time because I couldn’t stop vomiting and was very dehydrated. I was dizzy and needed help standing. It late, I think Patrick may have come home early to take me to the ER. For whatever reason, Nick and Celia took Celia’s dying car to pick up Julian. They were somewhat close to the ER, picking up Julian when the car died. Nick’s first thought was to call Patrick. “brother, come jump my car.” Patrick at first time him no, that he was in the ER with me. Two more calls from Nick saying he had nothing else and trying to justify why it would be fine for Patrick to leave his pregnant girlfriend in the emergency room. I finally gave in just so Nick would stop fucking calling and told him to go. The third time he called, Patrick went. He was gone for over an hour because he tried to jump their car, then had to drive them all the way back out to Nick’s apartment to get his car keys, drive them to Walmart to pick up Nick’s truck, and stop somewhere else so Celia could pee, before coming back to me. The minute he left I got scared because suddenly I was alone. I wasn’t being well taken care of by the nurses, they were barely responding when I was paging so I could have help to go to the bathroom or so they could turn off my beeping IV stand or to bring me a blanket. They never did any of those things. The whole time he was gone, I kept texting Patrick asking when he would be back, where he was, begging him to come back, telling him what was going on with me, and eventually because I was crying and scared and he was taking so long, telling him that I hated him. Yes, he did came back and held me and told me he was sorry. Nick never apologized for taking Patrick from me or thanked me for letting him use me car. All he said was I didn’t need Patrick there and he had nobody else to help him.

Next, I’m halfway through the pregnancy and back to work. I was working with Nick in pharmacy and we were stocking the pain killers. For the life of me I can’t remember what we were talking about. I just know that there was context to his remark, but all I remember is the remark. “I kinda feel like it’s my kid too. I’m gonna be real protective of him.” First of all, no. Just no. That statement can imply so many things and to me it fucking does. It implies that him and I fucked. That there could be some possibility that the child is Nick’s. That Nick will try to raise this child. So many things that are by no means true at all. Never once did Nick cross my mind in the conception of my son. Never have I ever wanted to fuck Nick [Last Name]. In no way, shape, or form, is my son Nick’s and in no way will he partaking in raising him.

Up next is my labor and delivery, which I’ll never be over. It was my first child and it didn’t go the way I wanted because nobody listened to what I wanted. But that’s a different post entirely if it even becomes on.

Moving in with us when Grayson was only two months old. Not upholding his promises and responsibilities like he said he would while he lived with us. The stupidity and selfishness that was his taking more of his and Patrick’s security deposit because he felt more entitled to it because of a situation he and he alone caused when they both put of half of the money for the deposit. Still keeping his fucking shit stored here despite having a storage unit. Constantly telling us “it’s only gonna get worse” whenever Grayson is a handful because he feels like he knows what it’s like to raise a child because he spent a year with Julian, a toddler.

Julian was 2 when Nick met him. Grayson is a newborn and cannot be compared to Julian, who was basically passed around from family to family before ending up back with his birth mother who originally didn’t even want him and didn’t bother to really parent him. Grayson was wanted in every sense of the word and it will only get better from here because Patrick and I plan on raising our child with love and compassion and actually raising him, not just tolerating him.

The mountain is now huge and I don’t know what to do about it. Honestly, it goes back even further than just to when I learned I was pregnant. I’ve written about all of that though. Laundry, using us as his personal therapist, ignoring us when we gave him advice, come back crying later after it went wrong again after ignoring our advice, constantly dragging us into his shit with Celia even when I asked multiple times for him to kindly leave us out of it and keep it out of my home. The whole thing was a trigger for me. Shit, it still is.

I already knew what the problem was. Writing it out helped a little. At least it isn’t stewing in my brain. But do I like Nick again? No. Will I ever be able to like Nick again? I hope so. We shall see in the future.

I have a child with special needs and we were able to go to the best clinics in town like UCSF and Stanford. i felt that my child gets the best medical care. The court ordered the father to provide a new insurance and we came to Kaiser last year. In almost a year dealing with Kaiser doctors i don't feel the same professionalism and quality of care as we used to get being at different other clinics. I started to think of changing the coverage to what we had prior to this. But i am not sure how i could change the court order and what evidence i need to provide asking for the change. Audatex is not kelly blue book they look at craigslist & not the dealer. Craigslist sometimes has cars where a mechanic might not catch it but is damaged. The price I paid is higher due to getting sick & credit went down so I had to go to a local dealer with higher interest. They want the insurance check plus $1700.00 & interest. So I will pay for this thing for over 1 1/2 years. I had it 6 days when some crazy driver almost hit me I turned & hit a wall. The insurance company says I loose my good driver discount. Since I will have to wait to pay off this car I can cancel my insurance once the dealer gets the check. Is there any California law that would say if this happens I would be able to pay off the car. I wish you had learned how to love yourself sooner. I wish you knew how much you meant and who you really meant anything too. I wish you didn’t have to sit in the shower and second guess yourself. I wish you didn’t have to hurt and deal with heartbreak and learned sooner that drama didn’t matter. Most of the things that happen don’t matter. I wish you knew who to trust and who to let in. and most of all I wish you had started writing when you were younger. But after 22 years I have finally learned to love myself for who I am. And that is the girl with a few too many ex boyfriends and a few too many ex friends. I am the girl who has gone through her party stage and experimented and learned I am worth it. I am worth more than anything gold in this world. I have learned to love myself with my depression and my anxiety. I am loving myself every single day and with that I don’t need anyone else to give me validation for my worth. I know my worth and that is all that matters. Loving yourself doesn’t have to be expensive face masks or pedicures, it can be girls night or good conversation with someone who cares about you, or it could be taking the time to write out your feelings and cry a little bit. Ive learned the shower is the best place to cry, even if you don’t really have anything to cry about. Sometimes a good cry is all we need to feel a little better and honestly I think its good for our soul. I wish I had known this sooner. Wet pillows are the worst thing to sleep on and its not healthy to cry yourself to sleep. I know its hard to not cry in bed, but please stop doing this. you have grown up doing this and now its time to cry in better place. Trust is hard. Especially after all the people who broke it, but at some point you figure out who you can put your trust into and who you cant. If someone gives you a bad vibe don’t trust them. Trust your gut. Its usually right. If anything ever feels off, leave. Change it. Because you should know better than something bad is going to happen. And if its after midnight you should go home. Because momma always says nothing good happens after midnight. Listen to the music you like and write whatever the hell you feel like. Be yourself and find people who love you for exactly who you are. Never change who you are for anyone or anything and don’t let people tell you who you are/aren’t. And most of all remember to admire yourself. And love yourself no matter what.
