quick note as someone who's experienced something very similar in another fandoms: whether you hate the cheating plotline or not, it's difficult to say it's ooc. especially for Seb, because we've seen a lot less of him than we have Big Red.
I think it was ooc for how it seemed the characters were going. but really, a lot of their personalities (especially Seb, again) were created by the fandom.
the similar experience I had is that we found out a character, who was engaged, was married from years prior and never divorced the spouse or told the current partner. so many people were outraged about how ooc it was, but some people reminded the fandom - we don't actually know that much about him. and what we do know matches with this
like I said, I don't care if you like the storyline or not. and for the way I personally view the characters, I think the kiss itself was ooc but the way they dealt with it was not (the guilt and ignoring it). but truly, we've created images of these characters in the fandom that are just that - in the fandom. I like those images, but we can't base the characters' standard off that :)

gonna be real bud if your fic relies so heavily on intense triggering themes and shock value that you're averse to putting warnings on it to "maintain surprise" and "avoid spoilers", then you act like you did nothing wrong when people are upset that you didn't make any effort to turn them away and allow them to protect themselves, while also telling them it's their fault that they read something that upset them when they could have never known it contained specific things that will upset them, i think you are a tar pit

how do you deal with the fact that je*ulus and w*lfstat are so popular in this fandom because i think i may be too emotional but i tweak every time i see them
basically it's just none of my business. I definitely think the jegs should avoid spamming the jily tag for instance because that's pretty disrespectful. I also think that the same way they have every right to enjoy that themselves, I have every right to express my personal dislike of those ships on my personal blog-- as long as I'm not putting it anywhere they're likely to see it. It has nothing to do with jeg or wofl fans as individuals, it's not a personal attack. I think if it's viewed as such maybe people need to take a moment to value how much stock they put in the opinions of strangers. It doesn't (and shouldn't) bother me personally if I come across someone who hates jily or hates snape or something, the same way I'm not offended if someone dislikes olives (just kidding, if you hate olives unfollow me right now)
sure, I think it's worth pointing out that female characters are sidelined in fandom in favour of men. but all it is is pointing it out and discussing it openly, not demanding people change their behaviour.
Ultimately, I can't control people's opinions or preferences, at most I can give my opinion when and if it's warranted. I'd love for marauder fans to be more understanding of snape for instance and vice versa so I talk about them a lot, and maybe that gives someone cause to think differently about a character they hate but in the end I don't really have the power to change people's minds or dictate their interests. I do believe there is definitely a space to love both, as proven by the many people I follow who do so!

an interesting thing abt jgy antis is like. where is the source of their, shall we say, negative opinion of jgy? like, 1. jgy is a villain, he does horrible things with no remorse, he’s willing to do everything to achieve his selfish, egotistical goals. --> 2. the source of this claim: this, this and this scene. --> 3. alright, but to me -- says someone who’s not an anti -- this reads differently. that he did all those things, and did them on purpose and without remorse, is not that obvious to me. why do you think that? --> 4. well, obviously because he’s a villain and does horrible things with no remorse.
like... he’s evil because he does bad things, and he does bad things because he’s evil. i’m interested in how antis came by those opinions, but a, unfortunately i have them all blocked, and b, even if i or someone else made a poll, it wouldn’t be authentic because no sane anti is going to say “well, people hated him and wrote all those things about him on twt, so i started hating him as well”, or “i only care about wgxn, you could sell me anything about other characters if your arguments were convincing enough because i zoned out during the parts when wgxn weren’t on screen/pages of the book”. it’s all “written in the book/shown in the show” and “logical arguments you’d agree with if only you could read”.

THE CHAMPION OF KIRKWALL
What can be said about Cillian Hawke that hasn’t been sung about in countless taverns, the source of endless drunken rambling and exasperated laughter? The Tale of the Champion lacks the traditional hallmarks of more classical folklore; indeed, Hawke is hardly a truly noble warrior nor a fully righteous hero. What he is – far-fetched escapades aside – is a person, lowly and ordinary, whose adventures have come to symbolize a triumph for the lowly and ordinary people. And it’s for that reason you won’t hear moving renditions regaled by court poets or prestigious bards. The wise know his is a story best joked about in the comfort of one’s home or ignoble bar of choice, shared between a few good friends and too many cheap drinks. [template]

every time i see someone talk about how bad AOS is and how it’ll never live up to TOS i get so sad. like i was only 5 when the first AOS movie came out, and my mom liked it, so i liked it, and i grew up watching the first two movies. into darkness is still a big comfort movie for me and i like to watch it whenever i’m bummed out.
i didn’t even know TOS was a thing until i was like, 16, and when i tried watching it i just could not get into it. idk.
