So what ur thoughts on the bafias nominations David been nomination for best comedy actor while Michael hasn't been nominated for anything and the fan on twitter can't understand why now I personally think after Al aggressive behaviour on a post when they got his name wrong on his favourite radio station and how her stories on ig recently just werid behaviour do u think Al may had sabotaged his chances of getting a nomination for anything
What ur thoughts
Hi there! So I am once again on the road and attending a conference in Las Vegas that just wrapped up, and now I finally have a chance to comment on today's exciting news.
I'm sure everyone has seen by now, but congrats to our lovely David on his first (main) BAFTA nom for Male Performance in a Comedy!
Tumblr media
It seems almost surreal that David has never been nominated for a (main) BAFTA before now, and given the breadth of his other recent TV performances (Des, Litvinenko) nominating him for Good Omens season 2 is certainly a choice...especially in the absence of a nomination for Michael. Looking at the list of nominations, it appears that Best Interests was nominated for Limited Drama, as was Sharon Horgan for Leading Actress...but no nomination for Michael for Leading Actor, either. So very quickly, this starts to look like a visible and intentional snub.
In terms of why Michael would be snubbed, I think there are a few possible reasons, but none of them have anything to do with AL. Readers of my blog know that I am never hesitant to call Anna out when it is merited, but in all likelihood the BAFTA nominations were decided long before now, and in my opinion she would not have any influence on whether Michael is nominated regardless of when her social media posts were made. So it does not make sense to place blame on her in this instance.
My feeling is that the reasons for Michael's lack of a nomination (and really, David's nomination specifically for GO) are likely twofold. One is that I'm guessing Amazon/whoever submitted David for consideration didn't want to pit Michael and David against each other. If they were both competing in the same category, it could split the votes, so only nominating one of them seems the best way of avoiding that. The second reason (again, in my opinion) seems to be political.
I was surprised to recently learn that Prince William is the president of BAFTA--British followers, help me out here, because this is very, very weird to a confused American--and as we know, Michael has spoken out on a number of hot button issues over the last few months: Opening a conversation about Welsh independence. The question of the devolution of the crown estate to Wales. And of course, abolishing the title of Prince of Wales. Not to mention all of the backlash incurred by the release of The Way, which was roundly savaged in the press and accused of promoting anti-English sentiments.
Granted, there have been politically active nominees and winners at the BAFTAs in the past, but it really feels like the combination of all these things is somehow working against Michael. Let's also not forget this epic picture from the BAFTA film awards last month, with Michael giving Wills the side-eyest of Welsh side-eyes:
Tumblr media
All this said, it is difficult (if not impossible) to think of Michael and David's performances in GO as separate things, because they are so inextricably intertwined. The reason that we got David's incredible performance as Crowley is because Michael was there as Aziraphale, and vice-versa. I think David and Michael themselves would be the first ones to say it, as well as to be in awe and so supportive of each other's acting. The response of fans to this nomination news--saying Michael is a better actor, Michael deserved to be nominated instead, etc.--is so perplexing to me, because I think he was probably the first one in line to congratulate David, and would chew out anybody who put down David's acting for any reason.
I also think that if the lack of a nomination is due to the above-mentioned political reasons, then Michael is probably wearing it like a fucking badge of honor. I think he is also happier for David than anyone else on the planet right now (because that's his boyfriend, damn it), and I truly hope the stars align and give us Michael presenting David with an award again like at the NTAs in 2021. (Michael subsequently carrying David off the stage bridal style would be the cherry on top of the already extremely homoerotic cake.)
I also feel that there is no question David is as taken aback by his nomination/Michael's lack of a nomination for GO as much as the rest of us are. While I have no idea what David's chances of winning truly are, I think he would wholeheartedly and enthusiastically share that award with Michael. And I think he will share that night with Michael no matter what, regardless of what happens on the broadcast.
So many possibilities come to mind, really. I can imagine David and Michael re-enacting Every (without the heartbreaking bits, of course) on stage. I've seen people making references to the infamous Slow Show fic/how it parallels to real life, and while I've only read part of it (haven't gotten to finish), the thought of any kiss between Michael and David is beyond gorgeous to contemplate. Not for the sake of "content" or as a joke, of course (because I don't think they would be willing to kiss as a joke, because if they were, they would've done it by now), but because we would see a facet to Michael and David's relationship that's always been there in private become public. And it would be their choice to share it with us.
Those are my reactions to the BAFTAs announcement today. I'd love to hear from my followers as well with your thoughts and comments. Thanks for writing in! x

Everybody is thirsting over Tenoch Huerta, and I agree that he's so so hot but the sexiest thing about him is his soul.
Every time I'm watching an interview of him, I'm humbled by how much he brings into the conversation.
I've personally never really seen a male actor talk so vocally about colorism and racism in the entertainment industry and in soctiey (the only ones I can think about right now are John Boyega and Jesse Williams) but it's something that isn't so common.
Tenoch talks about it so unapologetically and actually says the words, he doesn't sugarcoat it or minimizes it. He not afraid to talk about how racism and colorism are still present in Mexican society.
He's not afraid to talk about what the movie means to him, he's not afraid to talk about his origins, his history, about how for hundreds of years Mexican people with Indegenous origins like him were thought to be ashamed of those origins, and how they were taught to be ashamed of their ancestors, how it's a trauma shared with all the people who were "conquered" but how proud he is of his origins now.
He's not making his way by trying to blend in but by being himself.
Another example I have in mind was in a talk show the other day he was asked a question about accents and explained how accents are part of our identity, it's our linguistic identity. He gave the example of "American English" and "British English", he went on to explain how you can't really say that one or the other is the correct accent, it's just different linguistic identity. Let me tell you, I had never thought of accent that way but, wow.
He explained how happy he was that Ryan Coogler wanted to keep his accent and didn't ask him to work on it or change it and made it part of his character.
I'm mesmerized by the way he talks about such important issues, I mesmerized by the way he talks about his castmates, I mesmerized by the way he doesn't let any question destabilize him and just choses to be unapologetically himself.

Hispanism in OFMD
Hispanic representation in OFMD is very well done. I won’t say it’s the show that does it best because there are many other shows out there, but it certainly stands out. So I thought I would write something like a primer to appreciate the good work and maybe help with fic writing.  For each episode I’m transcribing (but not translating or it will be too long) all the Spanish, as well pointing fun things.
Episode 1
Olu: “Oye, te traigo comida”.
Kudos to Samson Kayo for his correct pronunciation. Too often, actors will mangle the Spanish to the point that it is unrecognizable or they will be so focused on making it sound right that they forget it should be acted. Samson delivers the line naturally.
Spanish is weird in how one can address another person. There is formal (usted), informal (tú), archaic (vos, os) and the Argentinian brand (vos squared). Here they use the informal “tú” which is common in modern Spanish but still shows a certain degree of familiarity. In the 18 century this form would be extremely intimate.
Episode 2
In the diary, left page, Jim writes “me asegure que el [h]ombre que mató a mi familia pagará con sangre”. There are some spelling mistakes, mostly accents, as well as the missing h-. Lovely detail. Jim is more literate than the rest of the crew, but still miles away from Lucius. It shows that while Jim received more education than most, it’s still lacking.  (For more on literacy check this post).
Diary, right page: “Día 28 a la fuga. Debido al alto precio de mi cabeza, estoy atrapado en este disfraz, en una prisión de mi propia creación. El pecio de la venganza es muy alto. Pero aquí estoy, al borde de la cordura, sudando hasta mis supuestos cojones.” Woa, so Jim speaks of themselves with –o which can be either masculine or neutral, rather than the –a for feminine. Interesting choice, when in the same paragraph they speak of their lack of balls.
Episode 3
Lots of things in this episode! I’m putting most of Jim’s lines together and then explaining some stuff.
Jim: “Ese bastardito caught me unawares.”; “¡Cállate hombrecito!”; “Me tienes hasta el–” (this is said while Lucius begs not to go back to the trunk, so I can’t quite catch all of it).
Jim: “She did! Estaba ahí, clarita, on Stede’s stupid fucking nose!”; “You are pushing your luck, hombrecito!”; “Jiménez. ¿Qué pasa?”
People focus a lot on the fact that Spanish is a gendered language (like all romance languages) but this isn’t such a defining trait. What really identifies Spanish is how much it likes to use suffixes to provided nuance.
(A suffix is a morpheme added at the end of the word to change its nature. Examples in English are the –s to make a plural or –tion to make a noun). Now Spanish gets all hot over suffixes. To give a quick example, if we take “rojo” (red) we can have: rojillo (small and affectionate), rojito (even more affectionate, maybe not so small), rojazo (very big or intense, not affectionate but not derisive), rojuzco (not nice, not complete), rojucho (not nice and possibly sick), rojeras (derisive while also affectionate, somehow).
Where am I getting with this? Jim consistently refers to Lucius as “hombrecito” and “bastardito” which is a mostly affectionate diminutive. This means that Jim doesn’t consider Lucius much of a threat, but also, out of all the suffixes options -ito is not one charged with contempt, far from it.
“Bastardo” is not that common as an insult and it comes a bit soft (pendejo o cabrón would be more appropriate and much harsher) but it would be understood by English speakers. Since Jim is a Floridian it makes sense that they would have linguistic interferences. Later, Jim calls Alfeo “pendejo” which is much stronger, so, again, Jim refers to Lucius in the softest of terms while also insulting him.
Jim’s name is Bonifacia Jiménez. Two things about this.
The name: Bonifacia is kind of an ugly lower class name that was never in fashion. Funnily enough, the male version is way more common than the female, although still not pretty. A baby would be named Bonifacio either because it runs in the family (to honor a grandparent or parent) or because it is the saint of the day they were born. In case anyone needs Jim’s birthday: June 5th.
The surname: Jiménez, one I two E. You can find it as “Jimenes” sometimes, but never, ever, Jiminez. Spanish culture has always been very anxious about surnames so women never, ever, change their surname. In some contexts, if they married someone important, they might use something like: Name Surname of Husband’s surname (Bonifacia Jimenez de Boodhari) but they wouldn’t drop their own family name. Children receive both surnames (Father + Mother) and in everyday life they may use just one, to shorten things, but in legal documents they will use both. This is to say that we still don’t know Jim’s full name, we are missing their mom’s.
Beautiful detail: they included the accent over the –e- in the dagger’s carved handle. Jiménez.
Whoever though of naming Jackie’s husband “Alfeo de la Vaca” is a genius. It sounds like a Spanish name, but it is not. Alfeo is close to Alfredo, an actual name, but by shortening it they underline the sound “el feo” (the ugly one). I have never seen “de la Vaca” (of the cow) as a surname, but there is “Vaca” and “Cabeza de vaca” (Cow’s head) so it doesn’t sound wrong. Altogether, Jackie married someone called Ugly from the Cow.
Roach has Berber inspired tattoos. All sides of the Mediterranean have been in permanent contact with each other, but especially in the 17-18th centuries there was a lot of traffic of goods and people. I don’t want to type all the historical background, but it is pretty likely that Roach is familiar with Spanish culture, either because he has been in Spanish territories or because he has met Spanish communities in Turkish/Ottoman territory. The tapas are an accurate representation (although most Spaniards would say those are “pinchos” or “raciones” rather than tapas) up to the presentation itself, like the clay dish Geraldo holds. Stede is wrong: “tapas” does not mean little plates but “lids”.
This is very trivial, but the word “pirate” entered relatively late in the Spanish lexicon. The Spanish soldier’s line (“así tratamos a los piratas”) echoes nicely with Alma’s line, but at the time Spaniards would’ve most likely say “corsarios”.
Bald Soldier: “Filtry scum. Anda y vete a comerte una mierda por ahí.” (Wow, Don Bald Soldier, that was crass).
Jim: “Felicidades. Cara de culo”. Jim’s choice of insults is really something.
The Spanish captain is Nacho Vigalondo, who directed this episode.
 Episode 4
Not much Spanish in this ep.
Ed’s assertion that the Spaniards die dramatically is probably right and God is mentioned often in common speech. However, in Spain (not so in Latin American where they have some semblance of piety and respect) it is very common to say “me cago en Dios” (I poo on God). I love to think that what Ed took as cries of “I beg to God” included some “I poop on God”.
Jim: “¿Qué te pasa?”; “Dios bendito. Look everyone…”
Buttons: “Hola”.
Spaniards would absolutely understand some ecclesiastical Latin. Not enough for an in depth conversation, but enough to make some basic requests at least.
Spanish man in grey shirt: “Mira.”
Spanish captain with really good outfit: “No puede ser. ¿un faro?”
Spanish man in grey shirt: “Es un faro. ¡Cambiad el rumbo!”
Someone in the background: “[la otra] vela.” (not sure about the first words)
Spanish captain with really good outfit: “Me has vuelto a ganar, Barbanegra.”
All this is said with the Spanish accent, in contrast to Jim and Nana, who have Caribbean accents.
 Episode 5
Nothing. No Jim in this episode.
 Episode 6
Nothing. Jim is very quiet in this episode. Although, during the duel, they mimic some moves for Stede to copy. This has nothing to do with Hispanism, I just think it’s neat.
 Episode 7
So much in this ep! I am including all the lines first and then the explanations.
Jim: “¿Qué te pasa?” … “Cálmate.”
 Nana: Sí.
Jim: Nana, soy yo.
Nana: Me gusta.
(Huh, Jiménez goes from formal you in the last line to informal you here. Is this why he was killed? Was Alfeo offended?)
Alfeo: ¿En serio? (stabs)
Nana: “Vamos.”; “Adiós.”; “Lo siento, hijo. La vida es dolor.”
Olu: “La vida es dolor.”
The siete gallos. “Ser gallito”, literally “to be a cock”, figuratively “to be cocky”. Good name for a group of bandits.
The convent.  From the habit, it seems Nana is a Benedict nun. Benedictines are supposed to stay put in their convent and be self-sufficient and independent. Their motto is “ora et labora”, pray and work. They famously make really good liquor.
Nana. Not a typical Spanish name, but it could be a nickname. Nuns used to change their names upon taking their vows so Nana can be a nickname of her old name or her nun name (like, Natividad, Nazareth or something like that). Nana may be a random murderous nun, a relative of Jim, or their actual grandmother. In Catholicism, being married and having a family is no obstacle to later becoming a nun/monk/priest.
Is Spanish Jackie Spanish? No. If Spanish Jackie existed, she was of French and Haitian descent. I don’t know why they call her Spanish either. Is it the red?
 Episode 8
Jim as priest: “Adelante, m’ijo.” (A contraction of “mi hijo” my son).
Jim: “¿En serio? ¿Geraldo?!
 Episode 9
Nothing. There is no Jim, probably because they would have murdered Badminton with one single hit. We sit sadly like Olu.
 Episode 10
Jim: “¡Carajo!” (When Lucius walks on them); “¡Vete hombrecito!”. (Aww, it’s definitely and endearment now).
And that’s it. Overall, all of Jim’s line are thoughtfully chosen and their insults vary depending on Jim’s respect and appreciation of the person. And it is possible that Alfeo murdered Señor Jiménez because he was too familiar.

Sever fuck or marry, UK edition with a bonus fourth you can do whatever you want with: Liam Payne, Jamie Dornan, Tom Hiddleston, Calvin Harris
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
27 / 02 / 2024
ASK ANSWERED
I love how you chosed pictures of them dressed with white briefs 🥵
SERVE, FUCK, MARRY + BONUS
SERVE Liam Payne because he seems really dominant, he is beautiful but i don't think he would be in love with me, and even if he is gorgeous, i don't love him but i worship him.
Tumblr media
I've always wanted to worship Liam Payne, and here is a link about the articles i wrote about him and the stories where he appears :
FUCK : Calvin Harris because he is handsome but not attractive enough to me. To me he is the least attractive but maybe that's because i don't him really much.
MARRY : Jamie Dornan is my husband goal!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You shouldn't have talk about Jamie Dornan, my friend! No I'm gonna explain in detail why i love him so much 😍
Jamie Dornan is in my list of the 10 most handsome men in the World to me, here :
Jamie Dornan is the kind of man who is always handsome, whether in his youth, when he looked a bit like Breton Thwaites, or now, looking more like Armie Hammer. Jamie Dornan, who i think was also a model, is gorgeous but also very talented as an actor, not reduced to his beauty because he played various characters, mainly in historical movies or TV series (and was always great). He corresponds to the European male beauty standards, because his white sometimes tanned skin is luminous, his face is chiseled, his eyes are closed to his eyebrows (it's proved that people considers a man hot if his eyes and eyebrows are closed).
Tumblr media
I love Jamie Dornan as beautiful with or without beard his hairs short or long, but my favorite face on the pic up here is the one from 2015.
Here is an article about some of his many roles, don't hesitate to tell me which is your favorite, or how you discovered this actor. 😁
As many people, i discovered him as Hans Axel von Fersen in Marie-Antoinette (2006). He was sexy but unfortunately he doesn't talk a lot so you can't understand his importance in the Queen's life, so that's not my favorite version of this character. However, i fell in love with the actor when i saw him as the Hunter / Graham Humbert in the tv series Once Upon A Time. 😍
I planned to write about him as I said here :
Tumblr media
BONUS : Be the personal assistant of Tom Hiddleston because he is kind, funny, clever, speaks French very well, would talks with me about very different things, and maybe he would be a boss too kind, but hopefully he would let me massages his shoulders or feet.
He is absolutely gorgeous, more than as Loki. Tom Hiddleston's blue eyes are so hot ❤️
Tumblr media
His role where Tom Hiddleston turns me on the most is as King Henry V of England in the BBC Series The Hollow Crown. He is the stereotype of the medieval King, visually, but he is so passionate, flirty, brave, strong, confident,... I love his hairs color here 😍
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And i would gladly worship Tom Hiddleston's ass, i would be his sycophant asslicker but he would protect me because he trust honest people and i would serve him but sincerely worship him, like not being weird towards him and he would sometimes ask my advises
His butt isn't that bubble but is still yummy! Tom Hiddleston can sit on my face whenever he wants 🥵

a very official and unserious ranking of chinese mini-dramas I've watched. Mini-drama = 5-15 min episodes. Color coded "sets" that had same actor or writer.
1. Night of Love with You (2022) - the unbeatable. the ULTIMATE. villain 4 villain romance with a protagonist who knows she is in a manga series... but something has gone wrong, because how did she and the heroic female lead get switched this time?!
2. Provoke (2023) - Republican era noir revenge saga. Unresolved sexual tension. Glamour. Great lighting. Hot people in period costume giving VIBES. She married her mortal enemy as a concubine and keeps a murderboard. I'm in love w her.
3. The Deliberations of Love (2023) - Married consort of a prince dies with him due to the struggle for the throne. Then she wakes up in the past, only for this ambitious idiot to get them killed again! Receiving yet another chance after 2 awful deaths, she's determined to choose life over love and not marry into the royal family again. But it's not quite so simple... especially when the prince starts to feel echoes of their past life together. The romantic chemistry is what sells this lil tropey drama. She keeps subconsciously drifting back into acting like his familiar spouse and then he starts vibing too.
4. A Familiar Stranger (2022) - Like with Provoke, I think everyone's seen this one? Conniving prime ministers daughter face-switches an innocent girl who is searching for her sister and pining away for this hot general who saved her once. Wow what luck, the horrible marriage the prime minister's daughter wanted to escape is with her dream man. This all sounds very wtf but this director x screenwriter combo creates these moody pieces that have a certain dream logic.
5. Zhang Gong Zhu Zai Shong (2022) - The emperor's sister is tyrannical and keeps a stable of hot men. Political intrigue ensues. ngl this one is real choppy but is ranked high due to my bias for achingly hot leading ladies who step on a breathless delicate ML. 🔥 She makes me SWEAT.
6. The Killer is Also Romantic (2022) - Mr and Mrs Smith in costume drama imperial era china. It should be higher, but for an English speaker it's dragged down the list by terrible subs.
7. My Decoy Bride (2023) - Hidden identities, assassin marries her target in imperial era china. Same male actor as Deliberations of Love who builds good energy with his costars. But less budget, worse subs, choppy editing. Still fun. Probably ranked way too high but idc I was entertained.
8. Dong Lan Xue (2023) - 3 min episodes of broken Murder Couple ❤. The slighted 7th prince and his ex-prostitute maid who are out for blood & revenge. (It's that badass lady & her delicate suitor again. Love this webisode pair. love herrrrrrrrr)
9. Miss Mystery (2023) - Republican era revenge drama in a similar vein as Provoke but lacking it's elite lighting, sets, & cinematography. To her it's Fake Marriage but he agrees because he liiiiikes her. The couple has chemistry, gives good power-couple, and the FL is out for bloody revenge. It's a fun ride. But the writing isn't as strong as Provoke and the uneven acting of the supporting cast drags it down the list.
10. What's Wrong with My Princess (2023) - The standard reborn revenge tale played straight. Female general helped a prince fight for the throne, then he & her sister have her murdered when vulnerable and pregnant. Gasp! She wakes up years earlier on her wedding day to this other prince she'd married once, only to kill for her evil lover boy. Now she plots the downfall of lover boy & her sis, joining hands with the husband she betrayed the 1st time around. It's... exactly what it sounds like lol. Nothing stands out and the script is a string of tropes. But it delivers exactly what it promises.
11. Everlasting Bride (2023) - Republican era revenge with added spy games. Like Miss Mystery & Provoke, strong character intros & first meeting. They're mysterious and well-dressed and dangerous to know. More polished than Miss Mystery. The leads here are more filtered and more conventionally attractive. But I have to admit that there's a charm about how rough around the edges Miss Mystery is. And I like the lead actress in Miss Mystery a lot more. The first 3rd is pretty fire, then it lost steam for me.
12. Forever Love (2023) - It's that smoldering guy from Maid's Revenge (absent from this list because due to crap ending). Absolutely extra in every way, a tropey hormonal mess, to the point one can argue it circles back around to be ART. Female protagonists for 1-10 are all great & fun. Alas I can't say the same for #12. 💀
Haven't Finished:
Butterfly Lover (2023) - I have a serious hate for open-endings and I heard this has one, so I paused on it. It's from that amazing director&screenwriter combo, though (Provoke, Familiar Stranger, Killer is also Romantic...). So I know it's worth watching.
Romantic aka Love Strikes Back (2023) - I started this but stalled out. idk it wasn't compulsively watchable for me. Other people loved it.

Okay, now that I've got the fangirling out of the system, some initial thoughts on dialogue.
XL - he sounded more confrontational in the dub. He also said the best fucking line ever; "you don't know him like I do". Like, sweetie, you sound like you're defending your good-for-nothing boyfriend from your friends and family while they tell you that this is a bad idea. Tbh, that is kinda what is happening. But also, the one tiktok with this exact line and talking about opinion on assault/salt popped up instantly.
PM - he sounds hot, sue me. But, yeah, defo a honeyed hoe vibe from him.
JW - I praise whoever came up with the English dialogue and his va because the lines and delivery were amazing. By tone, he sounds confident, kind but watchful, and miffed, like a parent whose child didn't live up to their words or expectation, which is exactly what you would be expecting. The lines add to this. "Torture", "disrespect", "disappointed" and "selfishly" are the main words, where it's clear that JW blames XL for not reaching out, for pushing him away. It sounds like a concerned parental figure, but it also has manipulation, where JW wants XL to feel guilty for his actions. He then proceeds to talk about how XL's actions have made things more difficult for him and how XL has his implicit trust. This, combined with the guilt-tripping, made XL feel somewhat responsible for associating with HC, which he doesn't feel bad about, and for making things harder for JW, which XL might be feeling bad about. Technically, none of this is a bad thing; JW, as both a highly political figure, leader and mentor figure for XL, could simply be trying to guide a misfortunate subordinate and student to stay out of trouble and safe by gaslight, gatekeep, girl bossing him. But, knowing JW's full past completely recontextualises the whole thing, and everything sounds so much more sinister, an attempt at control and teaching, a perverse form of care, and a shit ton of manipulation. Either way, for both novel readers and donghua only, you can tell that something is off.
SQX - both male and female voices were unique but fitting to their physical form, and every line from them was absolute gold and had me laughing, especially when he was talking about how pretty he is.
HC - woof. No, but seriously, when I first watched season 1 dub, I genuinely thought that HC's voice actor was Tatum because of the Sebastian Michaelis resemblance, so it made sense when I heard that Sebastian was the inspiration. The difference between s1 and s2 is the fact that in s1, HC was softer and brighter when interacting with XL while being baiting and mocking towards everyone else. In s2, in the 2 lines we got, it was so obvious that he was leaning into the suave and self-assurance because he's not dealing with people he dislikes or XL. He's in his territory, in front of his subjects who adore and follow him. His tone speaks volumes of his power in the city; he sounds arrogant, but it's justified, so really, it's true, backed-up confidence. The last 2 lines reminded me so much of Sebastian with calm, poised, but ultimately vicious tone.

Jaesun looks just as natural posing for the camera as he does performing to crowds of adoring fans. The rising kpop soloist—in an industry focused more on groups—is preparing for the release of his sophomore EP, ROCKST★R. His highly anticipated debut EP, Key to Your Heart, arrived at the end of June, hot on the heels of reality TV show Boys Planet, in which he competed in.
Following the distinctly kpop sound of his first EP, ROCKST★R seeks to showcase a different sound. The five tracks are all deeply inspired by 2000s pop punk and punk rock, driven by fast-paced guitars and upbeat drum beats. When asked what made him choose this route, he responded, “I have my producer to thank for this. I was introduced to him through another friend, and we clicked as soon as we met. He produced my first album as well. He said he thought this sound fit me, and I agreed.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jaesun’s enigmatic producer, SEOUL’D OUT, is correct. His voices soars across the introduction to “Supernova,” the album’s first track, accompanied only by the most minimal guitar chords. It segues smoothly into title track “Busted!” with a pre-chorus that builds and builds until its satisfying, guitar-driven drop, concluding in a kpop-typical rap verse.
“I’ve always been a fan of the genre,” Jaesun says. He later names Bring Me the Horizon, My Chemical Romance, and Paramoreas some of his favorite bands. For kpop groups, he’s been partial to Girls’ Generation, f(x), and F.T. Island.
Jaesun is no stranger to the stage, or performing. The eldest child of kdrama power couple Hwang Ihyeon and Song Miae, it seems like Jaesun has always been on stage. He denies it.
“My parents never wanted me to work in the entertainment industry,” he says with a laugh. “They tried everything they could to keep me from it. I learned calligraphy and archery and ran track and swam. I still found my way here.”
His start came at a mere twelve years of age, when he played the role of Perchik in his middle school’s production of Fiddler on the Roof. “My school’s theater department was small. The school focused more on academics, but I was never good at that,” Jaesun recalls. “I thought I should just try whatever I could. At the time, I don’t think I could have left the theater, even if I wanted to. There were never enough male students participating.”
Jaesun chalks the rest of his musical experience up to that fact. It’s a good thing, then, that he took an immediately liking to his roles. Throughout high school, he played Enjolras in Les Misérables, Sky in Mamma Mia!, and finished his senior year as the titular character of Beetlejuice. Following his high school graduation, he set out to pursue his true dream: becoming an idol.
“It was part of a deal I made with my parents,” he says. “They refused to let me drop out of school. I had to graduate first, then I was free to do anything I wanted. Later, I recognized that they made a lot of sacrifices for my schooling and all the experiences I gained along the way.” His pragmatic viewpoint is refreshing, never once trying to downplay the privilege having two actor parents has gifted him.
Born in Los Angeles, Jaesun’s family moved to Seoul when he was five years old. He attended the prestigious Seoul International School from elementary school until graduation. He thinks back to his school days: “I was American then, but I never really felt like it. Since I was so young when I moved, I don’t remember much of the country. It was my citizenship, not my identity.” In accordance with South Korean law, Jaesun renounced his American citizenship in favor of his Korean one shortly before his eighteenth birthday.
The other byproduct of his schooling is his flawless American English, presumably just as eloquent as his native Korean. He answers each interview question thoughtfully, taking no more than a beat or two to compose his answers. “Speaking multiple languages is important to being an idol,” Jaesun says. “It helps me connect to so many more people around the world. Of course, music does that anyway without needing to speak the same language. It’s still much more special to be able to communicate through conversations, like this one.”
ROCKST★R is set to release on October 20, 2023. Check out the teasers HERE and the track sampler HERE.

AiLongNhai Ep 1 Stray Thoughts
I am honestly not sure if I'm excited about this one at all?
Oh lord there are too many characters, but Porsche and his husband are in it! Oh my god this guy's mustache is too much.
TORONTO. Who gave Thailand access to B-roll?
Oh yes, my favorite thing: a random white guy in BL whose job is to speak English. Clearly he understands Thai. Please never stop doing this, BL.
Porsche is the dad!!! Finally giving the people what we want.
Oh no, the subs aren't great...
BANGKOK. I love these location cards.
I do think I like the dynamic between Aiyaret and his dad.
Hot boi! Hot boi! Hot boi!
I'm okay with this dynamic with a gay dad raising a gay son.
Oh my goodness, BL. It is really just so fun seeing actors across multiple projects. Now we have Valen from Love Area and Jin from Nitiman, as friends of Nhai.
"Handsome like a lead for a BL series." Okay, nevermind. I will watch all of this show.
NAN. Are we in a spy thriller???
Arm!!! I'm so glad Porsche and Arm get to play together.
Oh my goodness I love this gay family dynamic.
I'm glad Aiyaret and Chen Nhai have this class together. I wasn't in the mood for a drawn out search.
...is Gun supposed to be Tonhon? I hope I don't dislike him the way I did Podd's version.
I do not buy the age of new Chonlatee. I'm sorry.
I like the friend group dynamic. For once it feels like the show is unfolding the cast slowly and giving us time to get to know and recognize them, unlike Fahlanruk.
I don't know about these lips. They seem chapped but also covered in makeup??
These are not the greatest performances ever, but I do like the lack of romantic obstacles so far.
Tagging along to help your male crush flirt with a girl is peak gay behavior.
Goddamnit, he has a guitar now.
Is the guitar just aesthetic? I'm okay with letting songs play over it instead.
So, this isn't great, but I am amused by the dynamics enough to continue. Subs are serviceable, but I feel like some context is being lost. I've watched enough BL that I think I felt most of what was missing.

— THE DEEP DEEP DEEPER WE GO;; (still have to add more)
Rhodes is the oldest child of a award winning film director and actress who got together after working on a film. Rhodes is very much an oops nepo baby but he embraces it. started acting as a child on tv shows and commercial before getting his big break in an action movie franchise as the male lead. is now one of the most talked about actors in part thanks to his acting chops and his ability to do his own stunts.
very much a stoic dude that looks all serious but is actually a funny guy. your neighborhood gym rat that, with a friend, decided to open up a gym together called Core Fitness that is his pride and joy.
TBA.
— FREE INFORMATION;;
Personality wise, is too smart for his own good and knows it. is known in the tabloids as the boy next door and is just in all around good dude. loves to prove others wrong about him being just a rich kid/slash nepo baby, hence why he is learning latin because someone dared him to. he is really the poster child of ‘looks like can kill you if provoked but is an actual cinnamon roll'. will always offer others to join him to watch films and can talk your ear off about them.
Ships wise, when it comes to friends is there for them. loyal to a fault for them and yes will be honest with them about things. he will give advice and if they don’t take it, is like oh well and then if something happens would probably tell you I told you so afterwards. most likely is that guy that lets his friends crash at his apartment.
as for relationships, he may not look it but is an actual romantic. like gives you flowers or chocolates, maybe even goes outside your window and plays you music, he’s that type of guy. but also because he is so out-going most likely has slept around. do not blame him if he starts flirting, can’t help himself.
— CAN I GET A CONNECTION;;
CO-OWNER wanted connection on the main. (soon!!!)

EXES ( open to two ) ;; honestly, i just like exes. bonus points if there’s still tension and hook up but then regret it or if they’re just really good friends now with no tension at all. maybe they hook up here because tension is there. i love all options.
WILL THEY, WONT THEY ( open to one ) ;; essentially a flirtationship. no harm, no foul - is the mantra aka its all just easy fun. they flirt too much that others assume that they are dating, already dated, or are going to at some point. maybe even the idea has been on one of their mind but they are too good of friends to ever cross that line.
ONE (OR MORE) NIGHT STAND/ FLING ( open to many ) ;; one night, she was maybe a little bit down and needed something to pick her up. this worked. or maybe they met up at the bar or a party and it just happened. whether it’s turned into a regular thing or was just one night can be determined later. they could even be friends now.
MOVIE FRIENDS ( open to a few ) ;; people who also enjoy films. whether it be always watching a movie together or like to dissect them, maybe even invited them to his film premieres or what not. anything film related.
GYM FRIENDS ( open to a few ) ;; just a gym bro being friends with others who love going to the gym or possibly someone who wants to get into going and he decides to act as a sort of sponsor/mentor, anything gym related.
ENEMIES / FRENEMIES ( open to one ) ;; however these enemies/frenemies became known to each other can be determined later, but either way they dislike / hate / talk about each other behind their backs.
honestly anything else you can think of, i’m down for!!

'I’m genuinely curious about and a little afraid of what is going to happen to a certain kind of film lover when All of Us Strangers comes out in late December. If the reaction to the press tour so far is any indication, expect mass fainting spells and/or riots. There are a bunch of reasons I have pegged this movie—a gay romance from director Andrew Haigh—to bring the Letterboxd crowd, me included, to our knees, but the chief one is that it stars not one but two certified internet darlings: Andrew Scott, best known as Fleabag’s Hot Priest, and Paul Mescal, who rocketed to fame via Normal People early on in the pandemic and has been an object of ardent fan obsession ever since.
Despite the movie’s English director and setting, the other thing Scott and Mescal have in common is that they’re Irish, which you’d think would make their coming together to maximize their joint slay a shoo-in for Irish movie moment of the year. But it turns out competition for that title is pretty stiff in 2023. In November alone, audiences saw Barry Keoghan make his mark on an English country estate in Saltburn and Michael Fassbender scoot through Paris in The Killer, the latter’s first major acting job in three years. This is after a summer absolutely dominated by Cork’s own Cillian Murphy, who played a Jewish American scientist in Oppenheimer with so much conviction that it matters not a whit that no one in history has ever looked more Irish. All of this came in what is still the same year that The Banshees of Inisherin, starring Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson, and Keoghan, was nominated for nine Academy Awards, and Mescal was up for best actor for Aftersun.
They didn’t actually win any of those Oscars, but that doesn’t change a growing body of evidence proving that these days, some of the buzziest stars hail from the Emerald Isle. Ask any film fan whom they’re excited about, and you’re likely to get an earful of Mescal, Keoghan, Saoirse Ronan, and so on. I’m not the first to point this out—in August, Elle declared that it was “hot Irish guy” summer. But summer has turned into fall, and the hot Irish guys (and gals) remain with us. During awards season, Mashable made a guide to the Irish “it” boys of the Oscars. Several months later, they’re still “it.” So, what’s the craic with this Irish invasion?
“Irish people tend to be very good-looking and charming,” Rachel Connolly, a novelist and critic who has written about Irish culture’s place in the world, told me via email. “That would have to have something to do with it I’d imagine.”
True, but why are they so good-looking and charming, and so many of them at once? When I asked Ruth Barton, a critic and film studies professor at Trinity College Dublin, what unites performers like Mescal, Scott, and Keoghan, she posited that they all embody “a kind of soft masculinity.”
This wasn’t always the case. In earlier eras of Hollywood, Irishmen played priests and cops, not romantic leads. “Irish actors and Irish identity, particularly Irish masculinity, got sexier around the turn of the century,” Barton said. “The Troubles ended in 1998. You get this new image of Ireland coming through, with the Celtic Tiger, with the boy bands, with the chick lit, with U2, with Bono and all that kind of thing, which changes the image of the Irish male in particular.”
Barton cited Chris O’Dowd’s performance in Bridesmaids—as a cop, which is a typical Irish role, but a sexy one—as a key turning point that paved the way for the ascendance of the Irishman as soulful and sexy male lead. This also then makes room for weirder actors like Keoghan to become fan favorites. “He’s the underdog,” Barton said of Keoghan in Banshees. “He’s not good-looking. He’s not tall. He’s none of those things. But he’s really heartfelt. That’s what he brings to these roles.” (And some people would beg to differ about the good-looking part, I imagine.)
It helps that Ireland is also in the midst of a “huge literary moment,” Barton said. “Sally Rooney is only one of the generation of incredible young women writers coming through.” Rooney, the 32-year-old author of Normal People, is known for portraying “[her] generation’s anomie and discontent” in a way that can also be “viscerally sexy,” Barton said.
And again, this is still kind of a new thing! “Ireland used to be this repressed Roman Catholic country,” Barton said. “We abandoned Catholicism, and then we really let rip.”
Saoirse Ronan notwithstanding, it’s true that the viral “internet boyfriend” phenomenon that so benefits people like Mescal and Scott doesn’t quite have a female equivalent. Still, Irish actresses have been able to take advantage of the spotlight too: Kerry Condon received praise and award nominations for Banshees, Sharon Horgan’s Bad Sisters featured five plum roles for Irish actresses in 2022, with a second season on the way, and we’re still not that far out from the end of Derry Girls, the Netflix show set in Northern Ireland in the ’90s. Irish actress Nicola Coughlan parlayed her role in that show into work on Bridgerton—she will be the lead of an upcoming season—as well as a spot in one of 2023’s most enviable ensembles, Greta Gerwig’s Barbie. (She fittingly played Diplomat Barbie.) Otherwise, Barton cited Jessie Buckley in particular, of last year’s Women Talking, as an Irish actress on the rise.
In a larger sense, for millennials and Gen Z audiences who care about such things, Ireland’s politics seem refreshingly unproblematic: “Ireland stands for nothing on the world stage,” Barton said. “We’re not an aggressor. We’re not a colonizer. The Troubles are over. We actually live in one of a few countries with a fairly stable democracy. We don’t have crazy leaders. It’s a benign kind of identity, Irishness.” In other words, the Irish have all the charm Americans find in a British accent, maybe more—Barton cited a certain richness to “Hiberno-English”—with none of the baggage of the Brits.
Ireland’s history, of course, has trickle-down effects on the national character. According to Michael Patrick Gillespie, a professor at Florida International University who has studied Irish film, Ireland’s past is infused into the whole country’s sense of humor. “They have a great sense of irony,” he said. “I mean, they were an English colony for 750 years. I think that would certainly give anyone a bit of cynicism. There’s a great deal of value placed on wit and on repartee and being able to think on your feet, to think quickly and to deal with ambiguity.”
ADVERTISEMENT That may account partly for why such a small country—it has a population of 5 million—continues to leave such an outsize cultural impression. “There’s a tremendous creative vitality in Ireland, and that fosters a wide range of artistic projects,” Gillespie said. “It also builds up a callus and a stamina because there’s just not a lot of money. There’s never money in the film industry. There’s not a lot to support Irish films. And so to make it, to be successful, you really have to endure.”
Things may be improving on the money front: In February, the Hollywood Reporter published a piece on why the Irish film industry lately seems to be punching above its weight. Some Irish filmmakers pointed to specific funds that have been set up to encourage homegrown talent, leading to projects like Normal People and The Quiet Girl, which was a Best International Feature Film nominee at this year’s Oscars. Barton, meanwhile, pointed out that Ireland also offers quite a bit of state-subsidized theater, so much so that there’s now a fairly well-established trajectory for young actors to follow: After making a name for themselves in theater, they usually move into Irish TV, then parlay that into work elsewhere. When Hollywood productions cast Irish actors, “they’re getting pretty accomplished actors coming in who know what to do, who speak English, and who don’t have to deal with the kind of cultural adjustment either because, you know, we can see American TV here,” Barton said.
And it’s also easier now than ever before to work in Hollywood but stay Irish. “Before, you had to really move to America to work, whereas now people go backwards and forwards very, very easily,” Barton said. “Somebody like Cillian Murphy is very, very insistent that this is where he lives, this is where his children are being brought up, they are being brought up with Irish values, not with American values, etc.” For some American fans, this only makes this class of actors more swoon-worthy for how “not Hollywood” they are.
Still, Gillespie worries that American audiences are at risk of over-romanticizing the simple, quaint Irish life. “I think that Americans have a very naïve sense of Ireland,” he said, a sense that is sometimes amplified by movies like Banshees, in Gillespie’s view. “There’s almost a patronizing view of the Irish that that I think causes many Americans to underestimate their complexity.” In other words, Ireland and Irish actors are more than a vision of a sensitive man who reads poetry in bars or, say, really loves his donkey. “I think American audiences are more than capable of seeing the complexity that is there in Irish films and appreciating the complexities that Irish actors can convey,” Gillespie added. Something to keep in mind while you’re watching Mescal and Scott smooch next month at a theater near you.'
