I made social media accounts for sharing my journey fixing up an old Victorian house I bought for $100
If anyone would like to help fund this restoration project or if you could share this and get it out there I’d appreciate it.
This house is about 170 years old give or take a decade, truthfully it’s estimated to have been built between the 1830’s-1850’s. I want to see her make it to see 200 and many more years to come.
Historical homes and architecture; the restoration and preservation of historical homes are some of my passions. Historic homes being a particular special interest. This is my lifelong dream.
All donations will go towards the restoration and preservation of this beautiful historic Victorian home. The roof and foundation need repaired and the electrical needs to be updated (it’s still on knob and tube!). Anything extra will go toward redoing the bathrooms and kitchen which were already gutted before I purchased this house, as well as rebuilding the collapsed back porch. The back porch hasn’t collapsed because of any structural or foundational issues (all foundation issues are in the front corner of the house exclusively), it’s just collapsed due to wood rot.

Honestly just really want the new digimon game but if I get enough I want to try to help mom pay for the new bathroom
Reminder that I do commissions if you want me to work for it! Check out my pinned post for more info about that and feel free to message me privately if you want something other than the options listed, I’m totaling willing to negotiate there!
And another thing that makes me antsy. This is the damage that the plumber did fixing the pipe. I know exactly where we put the leftover wallpaper when we finished papering the dining room but Damon says it’s not there. Also that’s an oak plank wall, now with holes in it. Century old oak so good and hard. The proper way to paper it is to nail on cheesecloth, good and taut, horizontally, and paste the paper onto it, vertically and overlapping, so as to build in some give for when the house shifts, which it will do, since it’s a pier and beam foundation. I have no idea how to patch this.
Damon knows where the tile for the bathroom is at least. But the problem there is the mold inside the side wall. It shouldn’t be too extensive since there’s no pipe in that wall but - I can’t go see for myself. If it’s just what we see here it may not be a big deal, but If it’s more extensive-
Everyone has holes in their walls after the freeze and the only handyman who said he’d come by ghosted us. Exposure to light and dry air is the best thing to combat mold. So maybe leaving it alone for another week and not calling handymen till I can see things for myself is the proper course of action. But calling workmen is something I can actually do from bed and I feel I should do what I can.
If the foot hasn’t healed enough to get into the boot as projected a week from now I am going to be in a really bad mood about it, I tell you what.
Ok, so I asked my mom if she had home insurance. She said yes, but only the structure of the house. Once she fixes the roof, then she can get the rest of the house insurance. I have no idea why that is, that’s just what she told me.
Our solution for the leak is that she believes that the pipe leading outside’s seal is very poor, so we gotta reseal it with caulk, but maybe we can get some Flex Seal and use that. But we gotta wait til Monday when it’s warmer out and not raining. For now, we’ll just keep having the towels catch the rain water for now.
I’ll still be looking for a place, but that’s gonna be quite a while. I’m sure my sisters are willing to help me look at places in their cities to talk with people, so that’ll be helpful.
Anyone know how to temporarily fix a skylight in a way that wont blow away? Day 3 of Extreme Thunderstorm Warning and our skylight (and everything holding it to the house, and like 20ft of exterior drainage pipes) was just blown clear off the roof, and shattered in the backyard. And now there's a 6'x3' hole in the roof; luckily over a bathtub, but it's pouring and blowing so hard that the whole bathroom is already soaked.

Wainscoting Bedroom in Raleigh
Idea for a mid-sized master bedroom with wainscoting, a beige floor, a vaulted ceiling, and multiple colors for the walls.
So. We're moving! ...and there are so many repairs...
I've been excited about this all month, but we got hit with last-minute financial blows that took out our move-in repairs budget.
There's no way we can replace the broken fence right now ($15-25k!), so we need to patch the gaps to keep our pupper and the toddlebit from bolting into the ditch next door. And replacing the fragged driveway is a pipe dream, so we'll be filling the 30 years' worth of cracks. Because we need to finance replacing the 30-year-old HVAC o.o Before summer. In Georgia. Uh oh XD
We fortunately have enough to get electrical and plumbing repairs done, but that's it. So signal boosts, good vibes, and any help with the supplies here are super welcome. ♥
(I am currently adoring my new little staplegun. Thank you thank you thank you! My allergies are gonna destroy me but I can't wait to patch the fennnnnce.)
