Now that is spooky season i would love to share some of the most strange conversation i have had whill working on a daycare.

On that recest time when the kids didint run or had an royal battle for a crocodile toy:

Kids: *craying themselves out*

Me: whats wrong?

1 kid: *explaining will craying and having and absolute serius face* we can not play with coco because the ghist poped on it.

My coworkers: *screaming and saying that they have to call the priest AGAING*

Me: *siliently* how the fuck does a ghost shit?

Also me seing my coworkers at the same time that i am cleaning the toy: what do you mean again?

Cracking open some William Hope Hodgson (1877–1918) (my beloved) again this morning to see what’s going on in here:

Firstly I love the words “ghost finder.” Secondly, I’m delighted to find my second favourite Victorian-era framing device:

I, the narrator am not interesting myself… but I DO have an interesting friend

I write these stories down for profit

(My favourite Victorian framing device is when you add another layer of removal and ideally also a written account, aka: “I, the narrator, am not interesting, BUT I met a slightly interesting guy who told me about a strange letter he got from his EXTREMELY interesting friend”)

Anyway, so the narrator is meeting Carnacki for dinner at his house because he sent an invitation card to the narrator and three other friends saying “boys I am back in town and I have gossip.”

The names of the friends are great Victorian “I refer to my friends by their surnames” material:

i really love dc x dp tbh but i hate how so many fics end up making the batfam dumb as shit. and i don't mean in a "loveable goof" kind of way but in a genuine "these people don't have the skills or intelligence to be heroes" kind of way. which is just antithetical to their entire thing

sometimes it's because the writer just genuinely doesn't know anything about the batfam or what they've been through so they come across as idiots. and other times it's because the writer is writing op ghost king danny or just generally op danny and they genuinely think he could outsmart or beat them. more often than not, it's a combination of the two.

it's just so sad. like not only is it disrespectul to the batfam, essentially getting rid of all the skills and experience they have just to prop up danny, but it also makes things a lot more boring imo. don't get me wrong, i don't mind the occasional "main character is super op" kind of story, but it's boring when like 70% of fics are like that and there's no real challenge or obstacle for him. part of why the show danny phantom was so fun was that it was exciting and chair gripping to see danny have to deal with his new ghost powers, figuring out how to deal with ghost attacks or vlad, and dealing with school and his parents on top of that.

but often, dc x dp fics just,, get rid of any challenge for him. sure batman is a skilled detective but danny will always be able to trick him! sure cass has been trained since birth to read people's body language but this random ghost teen knows how to conceal and control everything!! yeah damian has also been trained since birth to fight and kill but this random guy from the midwest who just started fighting in his teens is so much better!!! like, alright. it's fun every now and then but it sucks when so much of the dc x dp content is just people acting like the batfam are the worst vigilantes/detectives in the world.

and honestly i still feel this way even with the ghost king danny fics because how? he's never had to deal with people obsessively reading his body language or reading between the lines. he's had to deal with hiding stuff sure but his parents aren't the most observant people - their whole deal was being neglectful. even as a ghost king, why would he know how to outsmart, take advantage of, or beat the batfam in any capacity when he would still mostly deal with ghosts. it's a completely different skill set here - one that he likely wouldn't be prepared for. it'd be fine if they at least attempted to explain why danny would have those skills (like league danny aus) but most of them don't.

and i'm not saying danny couldn't do it at all, especially if it's a ghost king au, but i'm just tired of seeing the batfam constantly downplayed in these fics Just to make danny look better, smarter, stronger, etc. ik most people in the fandom are just danny fans but it really shows with how they treat, characterize, and shit on the dc characters just to prop danny up. it also serves to occasionally make danny look like an asshole when he intentionally messes with them and basically commits psychological torture for a goof.

Recently saw the 2023 Haunted Mansion movie (pretty good, some minor issues but definitely nowhere near as bad as some feared) and now my brain won't stop considering something involving Victor and Alice and/or Smiler being in the Haunted Mansion.

Current ideas include: Incorporating it into Broken Sky, vacation story where they tour the Mansion and get trapped for a couple nights, Corpse Bride redo where Victor instead gets dragged to the Mansion instead of Downstairs by Emily and meeting other ghosts including Alice, Bumby, and Smiler, Alice finds out she's inherited the Mansion which sits near Burtonsville and tries to tame the spirits with outcast, "i see dead people" Victor and helpful haunt Smiler...

Are these ideas good? Idk. Would I write them? Maybe, though probably not right now. Are they interesting nonetheless? I hope so!

Oh no, you've turned into me. XD I don't know anything about the Haunted Mansion movie (I've never been to a Disney theme park, and thus have never been on the ride, and thus have no nostalgia prompting me to see it -- glad you enjoyed it, though!), but I DO know about watching something and suddenly having my brain Valice/Valicer it up. As you probably well know, reading my tumblr as you do. XD

*snork* I do like the idea of poor Victor and Alice of Broken Sky thinking they're going to have a nice day out at a Mansion, only to discover a) haunted as fuck and b) can't get out. (Alice is like "you know, we REALLY should have guessed this wasn't going to go well.") The "Corpse Bride but Haunted Mansion instead of Land of the Dead" idea is interesting too -- especially since one of the few things I DO know about the Haunted Mansion is at one point they had their own ghost bride named Emily, so it DOES rather fit! I wonder how Alice, Bumby, and Smiler died in that world. . . (Probably Alice and Bumby died killing each other?) I think my favorite of the trio so far though is "Alice inheriting the Mansion" -- like, it's after A:MR, she's now out a place to live since she killed her employer who was offering her room and board, when lo and behold she gets a letter saying she owns a house. . .only the house is haunted as fuck and now she finds herself having to figure out how to deal with the ghosts. Fortunate for her Victor lives nearby and has some experience with this kind of thing. . .and that one of the ghosts is such a shockingly friendly sort, even if she does wonder sometimes about the glowing yellow eyes. . . They are interesting ideas indeed, and I'm glad you shared! :D

A long time ago when i still played AI Dungeon, AKA, when it was still pretty bad in a very fun way, i was playing my longest running story with this guy named Koshka who for some reason had ended up in a hospital again (his life sucks) and he was there with his companion, who was this stoic tough guy called Trelik, who had also gotten badly injured. However, because im silley, i mispelled the name as Trilek, and accidentally made a new guy.

Now this on its own is just very funny to me like, Koshka straight up in his probably high off his balls either because medicine or because blood loss ran to this fucking man he had never seen in his life but had a slightly similar name to this other guy he had fought with and started treating him like his bestie and the dude was just like "oh okay we are besties now i guess :)", but the sheer fact that the AI actually managed to make something out of this? Is just also funny but mostly incredible like.

Trelik was a tough guy, a warrior, he wasnt Koshka's friend, he was a companion at best; but Trilek? Trilek was nothing like that. He was a nice calm guy who liked Koshka and who kept getting dragged into fucking fights despite not even being a warrior or anything. He literally was just some ride or die bitch, and die he did, but you know what fucking happened once he died? Trelik came back. Worse than before, truly evil this time.

Of course he died too eventually in an epic fight that left Koshka taking a like 10 year break and becoming a farmer (hes currently in hell i think btw idk its a mess) but like, its just so funny. Honorable warrior loses everything sees his companion abandon him while he's on his death bed becomes a mad scientist or something and tried to kill more people. Just incredible.

theoretically could an iterator turn themself into a lizard. for science

FTL: Depends on what you mean by 'turn themselves into'. Do you mean a 1:1 of all the cells being transformed into those of a lizard? Or do you mean their consciousness getting transplaced into or replacing that of the lizard?

FTL: Because the answer to the first one is 'no'. Not only is the total mass of an Iterator much, much larger than that of a lizard - any type of lizard - but there is the simple fact that Iterators are biomechanical. Lizards are biological (except for in rare edge cases). You cannot transform one into the other without losing something.

FTL: As for the latter, well... maybe? It would rely upon isolating and containing the Iterator's personality and most important functionalities. Doing so would lose nearly all of said Iterator's capacity to do anything at all. An Iterator's consciousness is impossible to pin down in one place. Even if you were to simply take the main personality matrix and use that, that would still be a devastating loss of ability. And even then, said container would have to be mechanical or digital, and then implanted into the brain of the lizard, overriding its own consciousness. Which one could say completely defeats the purpose in some ways.

FTL: So though it may be possible in that way, it really wouldn't work out in any way at all. You cannot degrade such a vast and complex being that much. A lizard's brain cannot handle even the most basic thoughts of a much more complex being, not on any level, unless it becomes a biomechanical being via the implantation of said personality chip, in which case it's still highly questionable. The Iterator whose mind now hypothetically occupies that of a lizard, would not know how to function, how to do anything at all. We're not made to be lizards, we're made to solve problems and do things, with nearly everything we need just a thought away (though that particular quality has eroded over time). We rely upon processes that do things for us. It'd simply be impossible to sustain oneself like that. Drastic change never does anything good.

FTL: I will conclude that the answer is 'no'. Any other possibilities I can think of are clearly preposterous and make even less sense than even the second option presented here. Unless some external force with unmeasurable power - a true god, not a relative god such as an Iterator - exists and decides to change the very laws of reality or perform such a transformation for incomprehensible reasons (most likely amusement), which I do think is unlikely, then no. It's impossible.
