I scored a Krimson Princess Hoya for seven bucks at the plant sale today and I am PSYCHED. Now I have Krimson Queen, Krimson Princess, Wayetti Tricolor, Rope, Lisa, and a sort of dark green one with speckled leaves that might be Hoya Publycalix but was sold to me without a name. It was three bucks and a leaf. Now it has three leaves and is flirting with a stem. Big growth for a Hoya!
Will take pictures of them in the morning and add them to this post.
Despite the ongoing warm weather tantrum, the sunrise decided to grace me with her very first bloom. She kicked off two other peduncles due to being thirstier than I realized, but now I understand that I need to really keep on top of it right now. Sad to be losing all those would-be blooms, but some hoyas are like that. The bloom smelled a little like Froot Loops, but a little spicy? I liked it!
Last photo shows my first bloom of the season from my obovata, who is preparing for quite the season. (6 of 8 peduncles have blooms arriving). A much more easygoing hoya whose only “tantrum” is just turning into a statue for a while. I think the blooms smell like peonies when freshly opened.
The goal for this year is to get all plants to grow peduncles, even though the more reasonable goal is to get all my bloom ready plants to bloom. I’ve had three new plants make blooms so far this year, with hopes to get 4 more!
This week I saw a post on one of my plant groups really early in the morning. There was a lady a couple towns over that was desperately looking for someone to just come take her plants because she was moving. I ofc volunteered to take them ALL! my tiny apartment now has about 40-50 plants scattered all over. They’re so cute 🌱
my work is also have a sale where i end up with 50% off so i got these new babies today 😎 i was so happy to get the pilea, this is one of my favorites!! and she has TWO(2)!!!! BABIES!!!!! if anyone has hoya tips pls share!!!
I'm not so much into Christmas, but IKEA got me. He was so adorable and fits perfectly with my Hoya carnosa! 🥹💚 What do you think? What should I name him?
This Hoya has grown so much! She is officially my first Hoya in the house back in 2019. I didn't know much about them and she wasn't getting enough light. I remember when we moved to this house, I left her in the back of my garage plants and she started losing leaves. I didn't know what to do, so I sprayed neem oil and brought her upstairs.
Omg, the difference was huge! She just needed more indirect light. It is crazy, sometimes (most times lol) you just need to read, observe and act. This also applies to any relationship! Would you agree?
One of the women who picked up African violet cuttings from me gave me a NOID Hoya cutting as a thank you. It is driving me CRAZY that I don't know what species this little plant is. It has long(er) lance-shaped leaves that are dark green with a black margin and is quite splashy. It's super pretty.
But none of the usual suspects seem to meet these criteria. All of the standard black margin Hoyas that comes up don't seem to be splashy and none of the splashy lance leafed Hoyas have black margins. Since she doesn't even know the species, I find it hard to believe that she would have ended up with an uncommon plant.
I'm sure that other people ("normals") would just shrug and go "It's a Hoya!" and move on with their life.
You know what, just call it what it is. (Hoarding!)
This room is at least one of the less concerning spaces and it’s where the vast majority of my tropicals grow. Many of these plants I’ve had for a good 5+ years, and will likely be getting chopped and shared over time (looking at you, ficus!)
Luckily not finding any new plants I want. (Exceptions can be made for select hoya/fern/aloe/agave, though.) I’m definitely enjoying the plants I do have, and so long as they all get good care without driving me nuts it’s okay.
