I remember awhile back I said I'd film a tutorial on how to draw Hugo cus some people were saying they had trouble doing it. I ran into some complications though and never got around to it. But seeing my friend @th3p0rtalmaker's drawing vid inspired me. So maybe keep an eye out for that.😉

Do you have any good beginner drag king makeup refs?
Personally, I'm not the type of king who wears makeup outside of drag, so what I started out with was trying to figure out masc contouring based off of this reference:
Tumblr media
Some of the kings on this blog also have makeup tutorials! Probably more than I list here, so if you really like someone's look, I recommend digging through their videos wherever they have them!
Makeup:
Drag King Make-up Tutorial from Adam All
Landon Cider's makeup YouTube account with multiple tutorials
Hugo Grrrl has a couple makeup tutorials here and here
Travis Fiero has a tutorial that I liked
Tenderoni's beard tutorial
King Perka$exxx's cartoon-style makeup tutorial
Practical effect facial hair:
How To Apply A Fake Beard (Drag King Tutorial) by Majic Dyke
Spikey Van Dykey’s curly glitter mustache tutorial
Again, this is a very non-exhaustive list--I recommend checking out the artists on this blog for more! Best of luck to you, and happy kinging!

Hi!! I wanted to say that I loved reading about your journey of creating a personal website. I'm still unsure between Vercel and Netlify. I have a small question to ask. See, one of the reasons I want to make a website is to archive drawings and journal/sketchbook. Would you have any tips for creating an area on my website just for the diary/journal, which has tags, files for each entry, etc.?
Bello!
Tumblr media
Really happy to hear about your interest in websites! I want everyone to make their own site so I don't have to log into social media and get instant tummyaches ♥
Vercel vs Netlify: I think I settled on Vercel for absolutely no reason whatsoever. I just made a site on Netlify, then tested on Vercel, and now I have like 5 websites on Vercel so I just kept using it LOL. I'm sure a more tech-savvy person would know the difference - I think they have certain integrations with specific programs.
Creating a diary or journal with tags:
There's a couple of different ways you can do that, with different levels of work needed.
you got me yapping again:
This sadgrl tutorial might be outdated and may or may not work, but explains the process better than I can.
Easiest: make a journal on Dreamwidth, or another blogging site (wordpress??) that allows easy tags and RSS feed, and embed that RSS feed onto your site.
This requires almost no HTML set-up, and the easiest to organize tags, but you don't truly have the data on your own site since it's just embedded.
When I snuck into a web design class at college, this was one of the methods that the professor used for a blog within a portfolio site LOL.
Shit like wordpress is what a LOT of ~professional~ sites do for their blog section. They code it separately from the main site haha. It's the most popular thing, but not necessarily the best. And wait til you read on what the CEO of wordpress has been having meltdowns about... he owns tumblr too!
It's made with a tutorial for Neocities if that's what you use.
Medium: Set up zonelets.
It will require some HTML and JS editing, but will help automate making headers/footers for each page of a blog.
I've never used it myself, but I see other people speak highly of it.
HARD FOR ME CUZ I'M A GORILLA: I believe a lot of professional web devs will slap your face with their coding cock until you use a static site generator (SSG) to make your site.
You will need some coding knowledge to set up the tagging system since it doesn't come with it enabled by default. But it's made explicitly to be an alternative to big Static Site Generators which are...
It requires some more intimidating knowledge, because it's a lot of scripts that turn files that are not HTML/CSS/JS into plain HTML.
Also you have to use the command line, and that doesn't come with buttons that tell you what you can do. You have to copy/paste all that shit or memorize the code to 'dev build astro' and it all looks silly.
I've used Eleventy, and now am using Astro. Other people use Hugo or Jekyll or some other stuff with crazy names like Glup Shitto. I hate all these sites cuz none of the words mean anything to me. This is a common theme for me and tech. I don't know what NODES or CONTENT or ISLANDS are!!!
I had the most success attempting to learn how to use a SSG by downloading a template and altering it with github + VScodium. Here's the template page for Astro. You click on a theme you like, and it takes you to its github page. (If you don't want to use evil Microsoft stuff sorry. Skip this entire section.) Follow the instructions on the page for "forking" the glup shitto. When it tells you to run commands, I run those commands through the terminal window in VScodium. These tutorials never tell you what these commands do cuz they assume you already know. Usually those commands automatically install the files you need onto your computer, and create the final files.
You can see my wip here for a "tag system" that SHOULD show members of a web listing haha but I don't know what I'm doing and I have a reading disorder AND don't know cumputer good.
THEORETICALLY this will be the simplest and easiest way to maintain tags and files, because after you set it up you just have to write the "content" of the blog page. And you don't have to set up the header/footer ever again. I see the vision, and potential, but I am not there yet when it takes me 5 hours a day to figure out what any of the words in the documentation mean and I don't want to ask an actual tech person cuz they will be like 'obviously just press the Blip on the Repository and then Suck My Ass in the command line".
(side note I haven't updated fujofans in like a year cuz I'm struggling with this part to make updating easier).
Con: the final HTML/CSS code is really ugly if it's "minified", and a lot of themes use """"""professional"""""" CSS libraries like Bootstrap and Tailwind that I honestly think are ugly cuz that's what every fuckin' tech website uses to style their pages and make them look Professional and Minimalist with stupid code like style="500-w dark-gray-balls D-cup-bra" on every single element. Even Toyhouse uses Bootstrap. Eugh!
But maybe you're smarter than me and can wrangle these things better!
That was really long. Woops. I hope you can slug through this wall of text and find something helpful. Feel free to email me if you have any more specific questions. I may or may not be helpful.
If someone else sees this and has better suggestions for making BLOGS, please chime in. I'm begging you.

Mmkay, since EVERYONE is hunting for your headcannons (including me lol), how about some of your favorite modern au hc's for all da characters?
YAYYY MORE HEADCANONS (I enjoy these asks sm you have no idea)
Yong is the most chronically online out of all of them. He uses brainrot terms 24/7 and is up to date with every new trend the moment there is one
Nuru is a swiftie, bite me if you don’t agree. She lays on the floor of her bedroom listening to The Prophecy on her very expensive limited edition vinyl from Target and has a collection of TS cardigans
Hugo has a motorcycle named Olivia. I LOVE when people add this little detail into modern aus (especially when he makes the motorcycle from scratch because he’s a genius like that)
Varian despises coffee (will only drink it with an insane amount of sugar and creamer), and his go to drink at cafes is probably a mocha of some kind because of the chocolate in it. Hugo, on the other hand, likes his coffee on the darker side and tells Varian he’s going to die in his 20’s from the amount of sugar he drinks
Varian was one of those prodigy children who went through academic burnout in high school
Nuru keeps herself very educated and up to date on worldwide politics
Yong uses discord as his main means of communication and won’t answer on any other platform
Varian owns a truck (will die on this hill), one of those old ones that has a super loud engine and windows you have to manually open, but there’s only a 50% chance it’ll actually open when you try. Same with the heat, Varian says it takes a while to heat up but most of the time it just blows cold air in your face until the truck is turned off
Yong got everyone on Team Radical addicted to block blast
Nuru hosts movie night at her house every Friday night, Yong always chooses Marvel movies
MECHANIC HUGO 🙏
Hugo has been using the same YouTube tutorial to cut his hair since high school
Varian and Hugo were either childhood best friends because of Donnie and Ulla or they were academic rivals who despised each other, there’s no in between
Valedictorian Nuru cuz my girl deserves it 🙏
Yong skipped a couple grades in school so most of his friends are older than him
Ulla had the slightest southern accent that Varian picked up as a kid. He grew out of it as he got older, but whenever he gets really mad or fired up about something, it comes out and Hugo makes fun of it (90% of the time he’s the reason said accent comes out)
I have more that I can’t think of right now but uhhh yeah
Hehe thank you for the ask <33

Victor Hugo tutorial: how to write a convincing conversion story.
Am reading the chapter Orestes and Pylades for who knows how many times. Then I suddenly realized it can be interpreted as a conversion story. A nihilist becomes a martyr. There is a narrative of similar topic at the very beginning of the novel, the encounter between Valjean and Bishop Bienvenu. A fugitive eventually becomes a saint. Both accounts star a priest and a convert (Myriel is literally a priest. And Enjolras, is referred to as “the priest of the republic” by both the narrator and he himself.) In both accounts, Hugo goes into great details how the priest is real saint. He has a whole book on Myriel, from his good deeds, his lack of interest in (secular) power and glory, to his complicated view towards his own faith. For Enjolras, by the end of the barricade he has delivered two grand speeches - the second one is basically the gist of the whole novel. After the reader is fully convinced that the priest is an ideally strong and pure person, the convert comes into the picture. Interestingly, the direct conversion experience does not occur at the priests’ strongest moment, but the most unguarded times. Valjean does not see Myriel preach or help the poor, he sees him sleeping like an infant. Grantaire does not see Enjolras fight or give a speech. He sleeps for 24 hours and wakes up and sees Enjolras facing a firing squad. From here starts the description of the convert. It can be full of inner struggle, in the case of Valjean. Or it can be terse and powerful: Grantaire rose to his feet with a start, stretched out his arms, rubbed his eyes, stared, yawned, and understood.

I’m back with a second WIP Wednesday on the trot, with another grown-up Mathilde snippet. Except this time it's from a fic where she goes off to uni and encounters a Bondian scheme by one of her professors bc I grew up the Young Bond novels and I just think they're neat. Will I ever complete it? Probably not but I’m having fun writing it.
‘Spare me the patronising tone, Miss Bond. Turing used his incredible brain to aid the war effort, there are no clean hands.’
‘His work saved millions of lives. The war would’ve dragged on for years longer had he not cracked Enigma.’
Irritation bubbled over in Claiborne’s eyes, ‘It was the Poles who cracked Enigma. You really should’ve paid more attention in my lectures, Bond.’
Mathilde grimly noted the use of the past tense. This must have been what had happened to Nathan Richards. He must have found out about the zero day attack too and Claiborne had him murdered for it. Now it looked like Mathilde would suffer the same fate. ‘Turing did refine the decryption, I’ll admit that. But what about Babbage and his Difference Engine?’
‘What about it?’ She said with equal frustration as she fruitlessly struggled against the restraints pinning her wrists to the chair. ‘He never got a chance to make it.’
‘Imagine that he had. He intended it to be used to calculate the financial assets of the British Empire. Its conquests, its wars, its plunder. At least tell me you know where the word computer comes from?’
If Claiborne was affording her the chance to play the smart Alec she decided she might as well take it, she didn’t want to show how frightened she really was. ‘From Latin, via the French. To determine together through reason.’
‘By jove, she does know something. You see Miss Bond, I reason all this technological advancement, all this progress in the end it has always been used to do what humans have always done. This is power as its most pure. I’m just staking my claim.’
‘That’s it? The miracle of technology and it all comes down to making algorithms to decide who to kill and how to do it most efficiently? And make yourself a little more rich in the process? You’re a monster, sir.’
If Claiborne was wounded by her words he didn’t show it save for the brusqueness with which he spoke his next utterance. ‘I do believe this tutorial is at an end, Miss Bond. I truly am sorry it has to end this way, you really were a very promising student.’
It's doubly fun to write a villain 😁 I'm imagining Claiborne as Samuel West because he did such a marvellous job as Sir Hugo Drax in the radio play of Moonraker and he is delightfully devilish as Peter Judd in the Slow Horses tv series.

Some quick notes about MTaS Multiplayer
Don't have any pics yet, but here's what I've noticed:
Mi-an's area is mostly empty of equipment. Mason is still there (unable to be befriended still) but we have his workshop area and I have not found where he's supposedly building things.
Missing places: Eufala Salvage (fixed in an early co-op mission), the barn on the Wandering Y Ranch, the entire train station and about half the tracks, the bridge over to the Gecko Ruins area (for some reason our character is able to get to Sandrock from there, have no clue why), the apartments where a bunch of characters live, part of the outside of the Blue Moon Saloon (also another early mission), Construction Junction, the barber shop, By The Stairs, Amirah's pottery shop, the museum, the Golden Goose, Fang's place, the bridge between town and the tracks, the water tower, and the shooting range outside the Civil Corps.
The stage outside the Blue Moon exists but currently Matilda is holding her Tuesday-Thursday sermons at the steps of City Hall for some reason.
Missing characters so far: All of Rocky's staff (Pebbles exist so I presume Krystal does too - I just haven't seen her), Amirah, Arvio, Grace, Jensen, Pablo, Pen (admittedly I could have just missed him), and Ernest. On the other hand, Trudy is there from the beginning, as is Banjo and Meerkat. From one of the missions, it looks like we get Nia permanently in Multiplayer (as opposed to single/solo player where she only shows up for 3 days currently).
Main missions take a backseat to co-op missions (I've seen 2, not counting the beginner missions - one where Elsie straight out gives you a fish trap, and one where Trudy hires you on as essentially assistant mayor). You can't take a solo commission until you're level 15. You gain knowledge points the same time at level 5.
I was a bit off on that last one. The missions with the orange label that the singleplayer game uses are solo missions in multiplayer. You get a few solo missions but everything else is co-op until you're player level 15 where you can take solo commissions.
The tutorial is, interestingly, the same stuff more or less as the Portia tutorial - a pickhammer, an axe, and a furnace, interrupted with a tutorial on how to use the commissions board.
The abandoned ruins for Multiplayer is The Breach (just like it was in the previous open multiplayer). You do have to dig it out before you use it. It's possible to enter the Breach with multiple characters or solo, but apparently if you enter the multiplayer version you get tin two levels higher up in the mines than solo, where you get tin at the same level (3) as the solo game. The Breach uses a lot of the same structure as the Eufala Salvage Abandoned Ruins, but mixed up a bit so don't depend on your knowledge of that place for this version.
You can build things buildings without having Construction Junction up and going. (See note below about controllers.)
You gain rep points for talking to people as well as building things. This makes sense. You're also very far behind in the rankings so you'll want to balance talking out with building.
Your ranking for what you can do is based on your workshop level, not your personal level.
You gain access to some things by leveling up your workshop, but for others you'll still need to visit Qi's machine.
I was a bit vague on the above - as you gain workshop levels, you gain the ability to research certain things - so for example, you don't immediately have access to the dew collector blueprint. You still have to use data discs to have Qi research the devices.
Buying blueprints costs workshop points, not gols, at the Commerce Guild. And those blueprints include bronze bars, for some reason. (Interestingly enough, not the feather duster, which is either available from the beginning or just shows up at some point at your workstation.)
Hugo sells the bronze axe and pickaxe, simple weapons, blueprints for weapons (I think they cost gols rather than the workshop points), and for all of us who hate that stupid bronze blade, yes, he sells those.
You can get these neat things that allow you to get NPCs to cooperate on... something. Trudy gives you one free, and the rest can be bought with reputation points at City Hall. ETA: You use these coupons to get these NPCs to give you something related to your specialty for a certain period of time.
Knowledge points are like single player, but you're not restricted to whatever skill you were using. So no matter if you've been fighting monsters, carving out ruins, or doing co-op missions, you can apply the point to anything - you can gain combat skill, for example, for just being good at digging things out. ETA: In the multiplayer version, you gain knowledge points like you did in Portia - 1 per level.
Note to Steam Deck users/controller users: While most of the game works just fine on controller (I've been running it with no problem on Steam Deck), the building placement gives you an error message if you try to use a controller. So instead of trying to place a building on Steam Deck extremely clumsily, you cannot place it at all.
Pathea is aware of the popularity of Sandrock on Steam Deck and is working on controller support for the multiplayer. (Hopefully it'll get fixed on singleplayer too, I have custom controls for this kind of thing but it's still annoying.)

Little announcement!
Okay, so here's the deal. I think I might have overloaded myself. I have so many projects for you guys, that I'm starting to feel a bit overwhelmed.
Now none of that is your fault! It's mine for attempting to do too much at once. So, because I don't want my burnout to come back, here's what I'm gonna do. I'm gonna work on each project one at a time. That way they each get the proper attention they need. The order of completion is right here:
Atlantis Review
Big Quirinson Family Art Piece
Hugo Drawing Tutorial
Hugo and Varian Animatic
Fan Fiction 1 (The Journey's Just Begun)
Fan Fiction 2 (A Light in Darkness.) My newest fic coming soon!
Now, this list should help keep me from getting too overwhelmed. At least I hope it does.
Anyway, that's all for now! Have a nice day y'all!😁👍

APAP 2014 — VoicePlay live performances
When the VoicePlay guys made their annual trip to NYC for the 2014 Association of Performing Arts Professionals conference, they also did an off-site show at Stage 48 (now HK Hall). It was part regular concert and part shakedown cruise. Emoni Wilkins was about to join them for the upcoming Sing-Off tour, so they wanted to try out some possible songs for their new setlist. It was also a bit of a reunion. The ladies of Element welcomed the boys to their hometown by opening for them.
.
[WARNING: This video contains flashing lights starting at 2:17.]
youtube
This song got a fantastic reception when they performed it on The Sing-Off, so it's no surprise that they wanted to get it tour-ready. Tweaking the arrangement to make it less of a solo piece was a great decision.
Details:
title: Play That Funky Music
original performers: Wild Cherry
written by: Rob Parissi
arranged by: VoicePlay
My favorite bits:
turning the lead vocal into a duet / duel between Eli and Emoni that is super fun
simplifying the choreography for a smaller stage
Layne's tasty beat under the rap section
"Uh-uh, baby."
the riff tutorial bit
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Trivia:
VoicePlay originally performed this song on the second episode of The Sing-Off with Honey Larochelle.
They later recorded this arrangement with Emoni for the deluxe edition of their "Collide" album of collaborations with other competitors from The Sing-Off season 4.
.
youtube
This clip cuts off before the big finish, but what he did get is darn entertaining. Heck, this song is always a blast when VoicePlay performs it, because their interactions are always a little different.
Details:
title: Elvira
original performers: The Oak Ridge Boys
written by: Dallas Frazier
arranged by: Geoff Castellucci
My favorite bits:
both Eli and Tony prodding Earl to take the lead, and Earl being a little extra forceful with Geoff about it
Tony working the audience during his solo
the "Earl can go deep, too" gag gets me every time 😆
Eli doing the "I see you" gesture at someone in the audience
Earl running out of steam on the long note sooner than usual and having some off-mic banter with Geoff about it
Tumblr media
"You know it's live when our faces look like that. #HighNotesHurt"
Trivia:
VoicePlay haven't released a studio version of this song to the public because it's such a live performance piece, but there is an audio recording available to their Patreon supporters.
They didn't end up including this in their setlist for the first Sing-Off tour, but it did make the cut for the second.
.
youtube
This is the roughest of the songs from that night, and a pretty good indication of why they didn't include it in their setlist for the tour. It definitely has some great moments, but the arrangement they'd tailored to Honey's voice just wasn't as comfortable for Emoni, and that's okay. That's what shakedowns are for.
Details:
title: Lady Gaga medley – ARTPOP
original songs / performer: all songs by Lady Gaga – "Aura"; [0:30] "Venus"; [1:14] "Do What U Want" featuring Christina Aguilera; [2:09] "Gypsy"; [2:24] "Applause"
written by: all songs by Stefani "Lady Gaga" Germanotta & collaborators – "Aura" with Anton "Zedd" Zaslavski, Erez Eisen, & Amit Duvdevani; "Venus" with Paul "DJ White Shadow" Blair, Hugo Pierre "Madeon" Leclercq, Dino Zisis, Nick Monson, and Sun Ra; "Do What U Want" with R. Kelly, Paul "DJ White Shadow" Blair, Martin Bresso, & William Grigahcine; "Gypsy" with Hugo Pierre "Madeon" Leclercq, Nadir "RedOne" Khayat, & Paul "DJ White Shadow" Blair; "Applause" with Paul "DJ White Shadow" Blair, Dino Zisis, & Nick Monson
arranged by: Layne Stein
My favorite bits:
Earl's smirk when he sings ♫ "garden panties" ♫ 😏
the little swell on the final ♫ "this could be looove" ♫
Eli's smooth diction through the rap section
their cohesion on the record-skip effect
the choreographed spins to draw attention to each singer as they layer into "Gypsy"
Tony getting into his groove during "Applause" with that pop timbre and those body rolls
the little ramp-up sound Layne makes going into the final section
Trivia:
VoicePlay originally recorded this medley with Honey Larochelle as part of their "Collide" album of collaborations with other Sing-Off season 4 competitors.
.
youtube
Now this arrangement was (quite literally) made for Emoni's voice and it shows. I'm sure not having to learn it from scratch made things much easier. This clip is missing the very beginning, but it's still a great time.
Details:
title: Can't Believe It
original performers: Flo Rida, featuring Pitbull [NOTE: The original lyrics and video are a fair bit racier than VP’s version.]
written by: Tramar "Flo Rida" Dillard, Armando "Pitbull" Pérez, Mike Caren, Luca Ciampi, Breyan Isaac, William Lobban-Bean, & Alexander Williams
arranged by: Layne Stein, Geoff Castellucci, & Hannah Juliano
My favorite bits:
seeing what choreography they added, since they were sitting in the original video
Geoff's meaty "wub-wub"s during the breakdown section
the boys obediently (and a little goofily) following Emoni's instructions from the lyrics
that big old riff
♫ "Boop." ♫
Layne's rhythmic shoulder wiggle as the others sing ♫ "how big that booty is" ♫
that smooth ending
Tumblr media
Trivia:
The boys and Emoni initially recorded this song as part of VoicePlay's "Collide" album of collaborations with other Sing-Off season 4 competitors.
