Monkey’s Paw pages 101-106 ( START HERE || ao3 || previous || next )
AU after episode 62. The Omega Dads try a more desperate gambit, but careful what you wish for. Our dads find alternate versions of themselves in a strange dreamscape. Do you trust yourself?
hey
THAT’S RIGHT IT’S BEEN AN EVIL HENRY AU THIS WHOLE TIME
anyway so this brings us to what has become the end of part 1??? this got so out of hand. MIGHT be a 3 part scenario here, but this is almost certainly the longest, or at least densest. the proverbial crap hits the proverbial fan from here on out and action tends to take up way more page space. as I figure THAT new pacing scenario out, among other things, Monkey’s Paw will be taking a break. Until probably November. Why November? well in November I’ll have finished my last teacher certification test. until then, I need to force myself to put some things to the side in order to not burn the candle quite so quickly. I don’t want any of my future-paying work or currently-paying side-hustle work to suffer, and thus also for this to suffer. There’s quite a bit of logistics for part 2 that need to be planned well in advance of it showing up on a page and that takes Time.
I didn’t even expect for this to go this far when I started. from the jump I’ve been working on the ethos of I’m Making This For Me, and while that’s still true I’m so incredibly grateful for all the response this comic has gotten!! I’m truly blown away by all the support and avid readers and commenters, you make my heart grow so so so big <3 Making this has been super fun as a fan but also an incredible confidence- and skill-builder for making That Original Comic That I’ll Get To Eventually Don’t Worry About It.
Between now and November, be on the lookout for a “chapter 2 cover art”, where I’ll give a progress update on part 2 and also (hopefully!) a link to where you can download a pdf copy of part 1! No promises, but that pdf version may have some redrawn panels or re-arranged pages, because any artist who’s ever told you they nailed every thing they’ve made on the first go is a liar. No changes to the plot, just in presentation.
Anyway! Thank you all again, so much, for reading! (and I don’t wanna draw any undue attention to anyone who doesn’t want it but to the person who spotted the red flags on Hen like 50 pages ago?? I am delicately holding your face and kissing you on the forehead you know who you are )

I haven't really talked about my opinions on AI art because I don't talk about a lot of broad opinions on here but I think I want to put my hat in the ring, and reblogging a post about spotting AI art is a good time.
I as much as anyone understand the exquisite agony of having ambitions, dreams, images you want created that you just cannot make yourself; your skill level isn't there, it requires something like animating or musical composition, you don't know if you want to commit yourself to making art purely to just have the art that you want. It's maddening. Especially if you're already making art, but you watch other people make art you can barely even dream of and it seems effortless and you have no idea how they got there. I remember that feeling vividly. There are plenty of people out there who can still make me feel that way.
But.
This isn't the solution. The truth is, you cannot lovelessly steal others' hands like a parasite to make your dreams come true. It won't be what you wanted. It won't be what you believed in. The ability to just, press a button and have the art, right there!! feels so wonderful but you have to realize it's all just built on theft, and not even very good theft. For every sleek, pretty superficial thing you're looking for, there's a million ugly messy details and even uglier cruelty made.
This isn't it. This isn't it. Believe me that it isn't it. Take your passion to commission work. Struggle forwards on your own art. Find artists who take requests. These things are all going to have better rewards, better detail, and you're not participating in what's rooted in pure art theft all the way down.
I know how it feels to have a beautiful image inside burning like a razor wire in your guts because you can't get it out the way you want. But AI art generation is a false friend to that, truly deeply and profoundly. This tool isn't some kind of inherent demon but the way that it's being implemented tells us that we aren't ready to use it and right now anything it makes is built on a disrespect of art because the people who make these programs are just grabbing everything they can to mulch into as much data as possible and then draw wobbly lines of best fit.
And your dreams deserve better than wobbly best fit lines.

From a very young age, Kaeya held such a fondness for handholding. Whether it was his father clinging tightly to him to make sure he didn’t get lost, Adelinde’s gentle, grounding hand closed over his to comfort him whenever his nerves got the better of him, Crepus’s rough-palmed, firm yet comforting grip as he brought him back home, or, as it was most often of all, Diluc’s warm, yet at times uncomfortably tight hold as he dragged him anywhere, everywhere, determined to always keep Kaeya close and eagerly show him all there was to see, Kaeya treasured the gesture greatly.
Of course, being as shy as he was, initiating it himself was always the harder part. So much so, he would tend to hold pinkies, rather than outright take a person’s hand in his own. Eventually, it would become his most common way to go about the gesture of affection.

me: yeah so we haven't had a meeting about it yet, but I asked my coworkers about past interns and why they left; chances are they won't hire me full time at my internship immediately. However, the chances of having it extended are pretty good, and I like what I'm doing, and they're going to be talking about budget in July. Sure my finances are a little tight but--
my sperm donor (only slightly exaggerated): look for a new job immediately and tell them if they won't hire you full time you're leaving. and no, I don't care if you don't find something in your industry and you have to settle for a job that will make you hate being alive even more than you already do. Also I'm going to ignore how long it took you to find this internship to begin with

I’m looking at the abundance of mafia and mob Peter AUs on here and god, would I love to spin that on its head and have Reader either also be a boss or have Reader be the boss and Peter be the one who got mixed up in it.

gotta be honest it’s 8am and i haven’t slept and maybe i’m overreacting but i am so tired of having to get upset over this blog because i really do adore this blog
like i understand my posts are all silly and ooc and just for funsies without any deep meaning but it still feels really fucking bad when people steal them almost word for word without any sort of credit. like the LEAST you could do is repurpose them for a different show or set of characters! i usually can handle that even when it’s not sourced but literally just presenting my posts almost exactly as i posted them with the same fandom and characters just really makes me feel like shit. i understand it’s the internet and it happens and i don’t want to start any drama or directly call anyone out but seriously this blog is legitimately one of the very few things in my life that i don’t have to worry about making me unhappy
—but now it just is making me unhappy because, as much as it pains me to admit (sarcasm), i DO put a lot of thought and effort into my posts. there’s a reason i don’t post very often - half because honestly i’m busy and don’t get to be online 24/7 and ALSO because even though my posts are short i still take time to come up with them, format them, and adjust the wording which somehow makes it feel EXTRA shitty when you copy my post and then “fix” the wording to be better. like i KNOW a lot of my posts are silly and don’t get that many notes but i’m not putting effort in for clout or whatever i’m doing it because i genuinely enjoy it and love doing it so watching other people literally post my stuff for the exact opposite purpose feels really gross and just makes me want to go back and delete everything.
idk i might just be tired and overreacting this just isn’t even the first time i’ve seen this happen and this one was especially blatant about it being their ~original idea~ that it just kind of hurt WAY more than it should and i just feel awful now im sorry if you had to read all this i am just Tired.
