I originally thought I would two parts - one chapter for the first and one chapter for the second - but then I realized it would be more fun to look at pre-Miles and then pre-GO with Miles and then post-GO, which extended it to three parts and three parties (which. honestly, I should have done a shorter overview of each of the three that goes on vibes, why do I make things harder for myself) - and then just the set-up for the first party took over a thousand words, so now this is just going to be four chapters maybe??? Idk.

However.

I have a counter offer. (I've still got the one started, no worries, still planning on that, still planning on doing a pre-GO fic.)

Last year, I started a fic called Helen Meets The Fam which is set shortly after Christmas and involves a party with the rest of the shitheads. Andi's alive, and there's no Miles. From the scanning I've done of it, it seems to be an AU where Miles just doesn't exist?

Is that an acceptable alternative? To writing things with Miles?

(I might still do a post-GO party and just not have a pre-GO party with Miles. I just. dislike Miles. and found this thing! And was trying to think of how to combine the two.)

Khu weighed the staff in his hands, carefully measuring and studying every thinkable aspect of it.

Eyes were cast over the notes in his journal and he channeled the desired enchantment through his tool, focusing more intently on the aether moving through him to its destination. The arcane details adorning the staff sparked with the energy and with great focus he reached to remove one of the trinkets.

He made a point to maintain the flow of aether, familiarizing himself with the feeling of magic resting bare in his palm. Making his arm the staff and his hand its crooked crown. Like this he should no longer have need of the staff’s assistance, right? And so he put the thaumaturge’s tool of trade aside.

It took some extra concentration, but he managed to maintain the sparks in his hand despite the tingling sensation that would have been rather unpleasant in any other situation. Too busy with excitement was he to consider stopping the practice and so he grasped the trinket firmly in his hand and held it towards his target, an unlucky tree stump. Then he let the aether flow as though he would cast magic with his staff and with the help of the trinket, lightning reached from his stretched out hand and met with the stump, the familiar crackle of wood falling to the elements and rumble of thunder. And the unfamiliar feeling of burning pain.

“What is going on!? Thunder?”

Dubus burst out from the tent as if set on fire, looking around dazed from the sudden awakening. Auro’usk too would emerge in concern to the noise, “Are you alright..?” tiredly he rubbed his eyes.

Their magician clutched his left hand to his chest, in the faint light of the fire he’d hope they didn’t notice.

“All is well, I was merely putting my theories into practice and… the result was unexpected. I am finished for tonight, no need to worry.”

Annoyed, the eldest rubbed his face; of course his brother was experimenting in the middle of the night. “Man, just keep it down a little next time, or you blow all our horns off!” At least they could go back to sleep knowing nothing was out to get them.

They couldn’t blame him though, guard duty was incredibly boring.
