I just… Why? Why would you ever say something like that?

I know I'm weeks late to this sad fucked-up party, but I watched the other video about James Somerton, the one by Todd in the Shadows, that was less focused on his plagiarism, and more on him just making untrue shit up out of nowhere. And it was infuriating but also super depressing.

Because yeah, this guy plagiarised half of his content and the rest is made-up bullshit but he doesn't even know enough about history to come up with good bullshit. And he's clearly sexist and his takes are hostile towards lesbians and trans people and most members of the LGBT community that are not gay men. But the most depressing thing that despite being one, he clearly hates gay men too.

Half of Todd's fact-checking pertains to examples of homophobia that Somerton made out of whole cloth: he was routinely complaining about homophobic incidents and trends that clearly didn't happen. He made homophobia look fake, he made gay people look like stupid sulking whinging liars nursing their victim complexes, while provable and proven examples of homophobia are, unfortunately, abundant. Yes, things have gotten, better but even if you're only looking for homophobia against gay men, only in the US, only in the recent past, five minutes of googling will still show you enough shit to make you weep. But that would take five minutes of googling, and much of it would be boring-sad instead of dramatic-sad, so it won't show up in a Somerton essay.

And then he characterised all post-AIDS-crisis gay rights activism as boring and conservative, and repeated the gross lie that marriage equality was all about timid assimilation and a white picket fence. (When in fact it was, among many other things, about gay men during the AIDS crisis who were barred from their lover's hospital room, barred from their lover's funeral, kicked out of the flat they had shared with their deceased lover. It was always about giving gay relationships, and gay widows and widowers, some desperately needed protections.)

And then Somerton goes on and declares that the SS and the Hitlerjugend were super gay. Dear god. They weren't. They really weren't. You can kiiinda make a point about Ernst Röhm and the SA leadership, but those guys were dead by 1934, and the rest of the Nazi establishment used their (real or alleged) homosexuality as proof that they needed to die. Insinuating that Nazis were gay, or that gay men were somehow overrepresented in Nazi leadership, and that therefore the people who imprisoned and murdered masses of gay people were themselves gay, is unfathomably fucking homophobic.

The things Somerton says about gay nazis and the things he says about survivors of the AIDS crisis are straight-up homophobic. Not subtly, not just a little bit. These are the words of someone who loathes gay men, despises them, is disgusted by them, someone who wants to kick and spit. The fact that he himself is gay doesn't make it any better, just makes it sad I guess.

Someone on Tw1tter mentioned „the juxtaposition between Toji and Gojo“ and at first I was like „hmm I never thought about that“ because I don‘t like the second fight ( since Toji dies obviously) but then I started thinking amd THINKING SOME MORE and that‘s when I realized that there are more reasons as to why I despise this fight, why I adore Toji this much and why I dislike Gojo.

It is telling just how many artists I follow stopped arting. If it is drawing, writing, crafting etc…. Usually my socials were full with artist activity and their joy for the field, but since the surge of AI, the worsening global economy and the overpriced money drain for software or products and materials yearly (now with software and w11 spying if you use *cough* trial versions) it decreased immensly. It is a cruel mirror of society how current events impact artists of all kind mentally and financially. It suffocates people, so it ultimately suffocates the things that enchant our mind and lives.
