Thancred smoothed a thumb side to side along the sheets of the bed in thought… it was more interesting that staring a hole into the wall waiting until his brain would let him sleep. He could hear Urianger reading behind him.

They’ve shared beds and makeshift sleeping places before in their youth… this felt different in so many ways.

He’d been pretending to sleep already when the Astrologian had come into the room, hoping that would ease the tension that had come with the offer of sharing the larger bed. Minfillia was given the “guest room” as her own, which was really just a space Urianger had been so thoughtful in putting together to give the girl privacy she has long been denied.

There was a couch in the main section of the cottage, but frankly the floor was more comfortable and Thancred would have continued to sleep on it until Urianger had caught him doing it the morning previous when the elezen had woken first by some curse of the twelve.

Now they were here.

Urianger attempting to read with the limited light of the room and Thancred pretending to sleep.

The Gunbreaker took a long inhale, and he could hear a page mid turn stall out behind him before Thancred rolled over and stared up at Urianger, already shaking his head as the other man opened his mouth to apologize for waking him.

“You didn’t—“ Thancred placated fingers streaming over the invisible line drawn down the bed, crossing the threshold to gently wrap a few fingers around Urianger’s wrist. He adjusted carefully, afraid if he moved too fast the man might just bolt, and moved both himself and Urianger a little so he could see the book too. “Light a candle… if you are to read, you may do so out loud.” Thancred reassured, a thumb smoothed against the soft inside of Urianger’s wrist as if he might still be able to feel the cool bands that rested there.

There was a long lull before Thancred spoke again with some shuffling for the Elezen to speak fire to the wick with care to read by.

“I adore your voice as I adore many things about you… surely you know this?” Thancred intoned, wondering what more he could do to share that swell of love and adoration that had sat in his chest for years for the other. “I wish you would not think yourself to blame so often,” Thancred wanted to reach out and smooth some of Urianger’s bangs back into their proper place, but he was feeling that urge to run he thought might be present in Urianger, wondering if it had been his own heart this time beating so fast in fear

Urianger had meant to set up sleeping arrangements for more than just Minfilia, but she had taken priority and then he had simply… been distracted by more important happenings. Making a bedroom for her that was welcoming and comfortable took precedence, and visiting the Crystarium to purchase supplies to do so takes some small amount of preparation. And if he were pressed about it, Urianger could not truthfully say he minded the fact there was only one other bed suited for occupancy.

He doesn't analyze the thought, or choose to acknowledge it at all, but the fact of the matter is that he would prefer if Thancred slept somewhere Urianger could keep an eye on him. There's a lasting anxiety that keeps prodding Urianger with imagining the future the Exarch told him of, where his friends lie dead, on top of acknowledging Thancred specifically has thrown himself into the most dangerous and tiresome path of them all, and hearing Thancred breathing eases Urianger's late-night worries.

There is also something he's well aware of that makes him extremely cognizant of the fact that sharing a bed would make Thancred physically closer to him than he's been in a while, and he could be forgiven for an accidental brush of skin. Even if that is rather selfish of him. That, he's come to terms with more than he has voicing his unnecessary worries about safety, as the former would probably sound like a dig at Thancred's capabilities and the latter merely an inconvenience.

As it is, Urianger sits on his bed, half reading a book and half absentmindedly listening to Thancred's breathing, in the dim light filtering from a muted table lamp that's barely enough to differentiate letters by. He doesn't want to wake Thancred, the other needs what sleep he can get. Urianger has heard the stories of his and Minfilia's journeying and sincerely doubts Thancred gets an even remotely acceptable amount of rest. So he stops mid-motion when Thancred inhales deeply, worried that movement from him or the bioluminescense of his nu mou-made night lantern was what roused him. Instead, Thancred shifts and grabs Urianger's wrist, stilling Urianger's worried attempt at adjustment immediately. “Ah?“ Thancred moves himself closely enough that he's leaning just a slight bit against Urianger, ostensibly looking down at the book in Urianger's lap.

”If… if thou shalt still commit thyself to rest for the evening.“ It's not the first time someone has implied to him that his voice is relaxing, though Thancred has not been one of those people afore this. It is incredibly distracting to work out that simple reply while Thancred's fingers shift against Urianger's unguarded inner wrist. Sir, please. He is doing his best to resist the urge to lean over, curl around Thancred and hold him to the constant feeling of affection for him that Urianger has realized since his settling in Il Mheg is just a part of himself now.

But that is an urge to resist. Urianger isn't sad over his certainty that Thancred is simply his friend, he's acknowledged that, too. A candle is procured, lit with the simplest of spells, and set on the table. Urianger debates if his urge to thread his fingers through Thancred's hair could be passed off as a generally amicable impulse. He's close, his head just barely a pressing weight against Urianger's side, and said urge is incredibly difficult to tamp back down. Just to touch him, a little bit, it would be fine if-- well, largely if Urianger were any other person, where a freedom of touch and gesture were less remarkable.

Thancred's voice coming back nearly startles him, Urianger lost enough in his own thoughts that he forgot Thancred was ostensibly waiting for him to do something. The choice of word Thancred makes is a jolt. Both times, 'adore' is a tugging feeling there towards his companion, Urianger's wide-eyed look of surprise and the beginning of an embarrassed flush about his ears just barely visible in the candle's glow. ”That which I know is….“ Not that?

That Thancred is his dear friend and companion and coworker, and they are not meant to have in other intentions toward one another, for they are coworkers and atop that Thancred's taste runs different from whatever category Urianger occupies. Urianger inhales deeply, holds his breath for a second, to marshal his thoughts. He has to choose his words, make exacting statements while his impulses are in turmoil. (With this undertones, is it not an invitation to reach out and touch Thancred as he wishes to? But invitations must be stated, less he misinterpret, and surely he misinterprets.) ”I knoweth only that which I am told.“

What are the many things, how does Thancred define 'adore'? One can adore a friend, a pet, one can adore a partner, too. If he misinterprets-- a series of words-for and aspects-of adoration (love) skims under his thoughts, almost voiced. (Would you like a list, Thancred, definition and example, for he could offer this whispered against the side of your neck, too embarrassed to look up but too fervent to stop?) ”And 'tis my fear that I may lose what I hold dear and hath tried my utmost to protect, should I overact.“

He does want to protect, both Thancred in general and his friendship in particular, his nearness and his ability to feel like he and Minfilia can rest in Urianger's care. This trust, he must keep above all else. There is a pause. Urianger leans down, close but not touching the other. “Thancred, if I asked thy permission to be close to thee, in touch or in emotion, what would thou grant me?” He doesn't quite know how he even would express himself in words, for all he's thought about and come to a simple acceptance of his thoughts he's never really needed to quantify them.

He has nothing more concrete to delineate with words other than that statement that he will take and perform whatever he is granted. He doesn't have exact words cut out and delineated, strung in neat sentences to express the tugging feeling that makes him want to hold Thancred against him, to become someone 'safe' and 'reliable' and to have attention he doesn't know how to ask for, either. Just tell him where the line is, so he can toe it, know his limits as to what would make Thancred step back and lose Urianger the trust required to have Thancred accept his protection.

IIRC, Gilbert had the idea when he was younger to find a 'replacement'. I think the main fuel behind that was to find someone who could keep his mother and albert company when he passed. He heard about leon's story (i dont think he knew it was leon at the time) and was inspired by that. Which makes me believe he found someone close in age and as similar as possible, and went on from there to get him to mimic him as much as possble.

Iiiiii. believe he didn't get to do this while in rhodolite? i am unsure, exactly on the timeframe. I assumed that he had made plans for this, then when he realized albert and his mother were dead and he went on that killing spree, he ended up deciding to go along with it for......... his overall plan, but also in my mind some company bahahaha

In chev's sequel, they point out that Roderic must have had facial surgery, which is WILD to me. idk why i never considered that, i guess its the timeframe, but my God they uh. did everything. to make roderic like gilbert.

anyway i rambled a lot. you can't really plastic surgery height so I do feel like gilbert would have thicker soles to his shoes, meanwhile roderic has to pray no one realizes their shoes are different shfbuisjngmdghbdf

faux headcanons/observations cause i looked way too deep into a character xd

TL;DR: i think that faux is just a guy whos too chained by his roots and couldnt escape so he took it out on everyone around him in the absolutely worst way possible

Long version: i personally feel like faux has a LOT of unspoken issues, which is kind of hinted at in some dialogue/cutscenes

this entire conversation really felt like he had to uphold a perfect image so he wouldnt (couldnt) tarnish his fathers reputation. he had to do what it took to survive, even if it meant throwing his fellow writers under the bus. his perception on being a writer starts to warp and change because of this, turning into what he is now. also immediately being put into a machine he didnt have time to cope with anything, his anger just got worse. (i think that the death of Berlage was his doing as a way of having control, as he probably felt that he couldnt escape his roots and his ties to the police.)

i do find it interesting that he starts stuttering and panicking, which to me felt like a last ditch attempt to be accepted and understood in some form.

this line really stood out to me, as they are (assumed to be) similar in age. i think that maybe he went through abuse (presumably by his father), so that he views his body as aged.

i think that he really did trust felix, and felix became an anchor for him; in a very unhealthy way. when felix left to go solo, he felt that his stability went with it and was betrayed and angry. so he took it out on him in the worst way he could.

he didnt want to be left behind again, to be abandoned by his crew, so he tried to make it so he was the only one left. so there wasnt anyone around that could betray him.

This is also my own perspective but I think a lot of it could be universally applied if you look at it through different lenses of ppls different situations. This also got rly long so I'm putting it under a readmore ^^;

So I had pretty much been isolating myself with increasing ferocity for years until recently. Even when trying to reach out to people I was extremely closed off, keeping my feelings behind many walls and chains always. A lot of my hard work has come from undoing all of that fuckup. I put all my eggs into my online friendships (and even then had a hard time with them).

My behavior was a cluster of personal garbage, learned mannerisms from keeping bad company, and hardwired reactions to specific behaviors. It's something pretty hurtful to realize when you do realize it, but that doesn't mean that you are a bad person or a failure or anything like that. It just means that you have certain bare minimum survival behaviors that worked before but now are only doing you damage, and you have to learn to undo them. (which is a great step!!)

Which brings me to what I have (painfully) learned over the past several years: the basis to any and every good relationship, romantic, platonic, family, or anything is crystal clear communication. Straight up for the love of god communication skills will save your life time and time and time again

And also like I said in earlier posts the solution to wanting to be more social is just BEING more social. This is arguably extremely hard, especially after years of "if they want me around they'll ask me" and always waiting to be invited but not wanting to bother anyone by asking if you can join NO!!!!!!!! GET THAT SHIT OUT OF YOUR BRAIN EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY!!!!! It really does NOT work that way at all. People will invite you to things if they see you express interest in them. The same way that in your head you think 'theyll invite me if they want me to go' if they dont see you express interest people will think you dont want to join. If you go someplace and just stay recluse because youre shy they likely will also think "theyre probably not comfortable or dont want to be here, so we wont force them". People are inherently kind and they are definitely NOT thinking about shunting you on purpose (and I am speaking this, genuinely, from personal experience)

While I was studying my major I got close to a group of people and thought of them as my friend group, but they always seemed cold to me, and I rarely got invited to hangouts because they seemed closer among themselves so I ended up always thinking that they didn't really want me around, and created all of these assumptions in my mind about them or what they thought of me.

Years later, recently, I found one of them again just... randomly while walking through the street and we started talking. And in my much better state of mind I asked about this whole thing because I wanted to know how the rest of the group was doing (I care very much for them still) and he revealed to me that THEY were the ones who thought I was shutting myself off of the group bc I didnt wanna be close to them. Which just blew my mind but it made a lot of sense and explained a lot. I was always on my phone too, talking with my internet friends (because it was my comfort zone), so what they'd assumed was that I already had a friend group that I was invested in and so I wasnt going to prioritize them. SO basically this whole thing ended up being resolved with clear communication and would have been solved much earlier if I had just spoken up about it and gotten braver (though my mental state did not let me at the time)

Anytime you are making up assumptions and ultimatums in your mind without communicating them to the other party you should stop and very much go and speak out loud to the other party (or parties) it will genuinely do you good cause huge as hell brain snowballs do nothing but drown you in your own mind.

Also on the being social front, if you dont have the practice in then it will be hard but a lot of it is very much "fake it till you make it" and I genuinely cannot recommend that enough. Inject yourself into conversations and places and act like yourself unapologetically because the secret isnt to craft a persona that you think people will like, its just being yourself and finding people who will love you for who you are. And like I said I just got invested in other ppls plans and asked to be able to go to places, and oftentimes just by expressing interest i got invited "oh I love this show very much!!" "well we have a plan to watch it at my pals house do you wanna come?" "we were planning on going to X place this week" "omg that sounds so cool can I come with" "of course!" Generally people will respond with "the more the merrier" so please dont be afraid to ask. And even if you get a rejection or two it's fine, don't let it discourage you. Some plans are simply not meant to be, and that's totally fine too!

Something else I worked for was reestablishing contact with old highschool friends I'd lost and I missed terribly. I went out of my way to find them again (old phone numbers, old emails, old instagram accounts that hadnt posted since 2019), and I found them!

And most of them really missed me too and were absolutely thrilled I contacted them again, we picked up right where we left off eight years prior. With a lot to catch up to but its genuinely so nice to have them in my life rather than just melancholically thinking about them and wondering if they hated me or anything. Turns out that they had also thought to contact me as well or had tried and lost my phone, or some of them even thought that it was better to leave things as they were to not "stir up shit" so we were all stuck in the same loop of insane thinking without actually confirming it until one of us (me in this case) finally broke the ice (and it took a damn long time too)

The thing is, people are just like you. We all have our own mental nonsense to fight, and we all have our assumptions and propensity to think ourselves into the grave, that's why its so so so so important to communicate things as clearly and as often as possible. Bearing your suffering alone will only make you miserable in the end, and your circle is there to help you

As a last note, I do want to say I have been incredibly lucky, because the friend group I've been adopted into I have met through that one friend from uni that I just HAPPENED to find on the street. I could have not waved him over on the street and just kept walking with my music on and ignored him. I could have said 'no' to his offer to get dinner that day if I'd wanted to be home earlier. I could have never spoken up about liking eurovision and never gotten invited to the hangout where I met my bf. And none of this would have ever happened at all. But that just strengthens my advice of "just say yes and reach out of your comfort zone" because you never know where it's going to lead you!

All this to say:

Communicate clearly with your peers to reduce misunderstandings. More likely than not they'll be in the same boat as you are. (Also extra note. Communication works BOTH WAYS. It needs to come from both parties. It is also a skill you have to nurture and hone!!)

Be kind!! and be loving!! and be yourself unapologetically!!

reach out to people the same way that you'd want to be reached out to. It sucks that sometimes (even often) you have to be the one to do it, but you eventually reap what you sow and people will learn that they can reach out to YOU

People will respond in kind to you being nice to them and a positive energy in their life. Some people will take advantage of it yes, thats just how things are, and its something you have to learn to recognize but you should never let that steel your heart. It is so so so important to remain kind and loving the world needs it so much. We're all out here trying to make our own lives and our loved ones lives a little bit brighter <3

also to add to all of this i feel like something that should be noted (at least by my dumbass) is that, in a way... erwin never really lies to his soldiers. sure, he'll mislead them (telling them different locations of where eren's squad actually is as an example) if it's to protect an important asset within the survey corps, but he never outright lies (only from what i remember though dont take this as gospel). he calls himself a conman and a liar because so many people died under his command when he'd say that he fought for humanity when he really fought for himself all sorts of people fight for themselves in the scouts (eren with fighting titans and him n the buddies seeing the outside world, jean originally wanted to join the mps to live comfortably, etc) and their own dreams... but hteir own dreams are pretty much what is a part of what makes humanity... well. humanity. erwin fought to be able to learn about if his father's theories were right, which is just as equally valid as anybody else's

when he was faced with the option that he could hide behind his soldiers and see what's in the basement, erwin did NOT take that option. it's often in media we'll see corrupt higher-ups that would be cowardly and hide behind their own soldiers who would act like meat shields, or those that would just only use their soldiers for the dirty work. erwin doesn't do that

he acknowledges the choices he can make and gets insight from a third party, and eventually settles with him leading the rest of the recruits. he doesn't say they'll 'live' in these shitty conditions, doesn't say that they're fighting with full-on glory and gonna look badass, he keeps it real and actively leads these soldiers to certain death... but he doesn't cower behind them. he leads them right at the front knowing HE HIMSELF is the first to die

despite how terrifying and fucking batshit insane erwin can be, the completely unhinged creacher he is, he still has a heart and cares for his soldiers (he has intense survivor's guilt, regrets and remorse as he envisions himself on a mountain of their bodies, or seeing them all gathered around him waiting for his next move. he shows clear fear and pain, even a sense of emptiness at the realization that the young recruits would all die from his orders.. not to mention how stoic he had to keep himself as they returned from the 57th expedition and were heckled.

of course, we cant forget stohess and how fucking insane that was (annie and eren shifting, a SHITTON of civilian deaths bc of their bullshittery) and how many people it killed under erwin's orders... but in this sort of situation, it's a 'lesser evil'. either more people die in the long run as the female titan escapes to kill more soldiers and people alike, or capturing her then and there despite how much bullshit occurs

bro is a complicated character. he's stoic and formal and almost graceful in his own right, but also can be completely unhinged, manipulative and undoubtedly a gambling man-- and not to mention borderline suicidal. but that isn't to say he's heartless-- he cares immensely and knows what must come with the role of being a commander: you can't always have a situation where everyone just gets out alive no problem, no casualties, no nothing, there will be situations where it's either one choice or the other, and both are shit, but one will be better in the long run. he held his own survivor's guilt, his own remorse, he's got his own flaws, but that's what makes him so human.

he's simple and complex, got all sorts of layers to him and. man he's fuckin wild

Hank- hands down best dude. total bro, i just wish he didn't die by being hanged by the cable when you use the elevator. that was a bit. mm. tasteless? tone deaf? maybe dont hang one of the two black characters frictional games??

Alex- *insert second diversity win joke about rich buisnessman having the saddest most pathetic little meow meow as a boyfriend*

Richard- quality representation for us useless gays. terrified little meow meow. on a more serious note, i clocked him and alex from the first photo, and im glad tasi confirms that they're in a relationship, and that when you find richard, he's calling out for alex. i really hoped that you'd be able to stop tasi by struggling, but not so. i think it would have made for a neat thing if you had a choice with both him and the doc.

Dr. Metzier - speaking of the doc, i did not see him stealing the baby coming. he's such a jerk for blaming tasi, "oh you'd put the lives of all of us behind that of your child" like no my dude. if someone locked you in a room and said they were going to start shooting people if you didn't give them your baby, you wouldn't be the one responsible for the people being shot.

Leon- might be the only person from the Cassandra to survive? ik he looses his hand but he's still alive after. thats gotta suck, bc he's stuck in the catacombs/hunting grounds with all the other harvesters, so he's probably going to loose himself. i feel bad for him even though he's Pretty Dang Racist, bc he didn't do or say anything outright until after being harvesterized, so i think that had things gone normally and everyone got to the gold mine ok, he might have been able to Stop Being So Racist.

Tasi- legit didn't touch the laudnum after i realized she was pregnant, only to discover there was no effect on her. she's a nice lady, sucks that the empress decided she wanted tasi's baby. "hold x to check in on your baby" is something im going to say now.

Salim- aww cute husband shame he's fuckin dead. i wasn't expecting to find him alive but i still got real sad when i did find him. i like the details that tell you your marriage licence got denied and the photo saying 'how about we do anyways'

Yasmin- even as a harvester she's friend shaped. even puts her leg in a bear trap bc she doesn't want to hurt tasi. 10/10 yasmin is best friend in this game

Empress Tihana - i don't believe for a second she really meant any of what she said about saving tasi from the desert because a, she's the one who brought down the plane, b, she's sustained by endless torturing and claims she's not a monster, so forgive me if i dont think she's being honest. c, the major hazards of this particular area of the desert are her harvesters, actually. the entire crew of the cassandra, the french fort, the village, all those people are dead because she wanted someone else's baby. love her design tho very cool.

I would honestly find it easier to much better if Merula actually was part of R at this point, as she could have easily joined when she was younger and less aware of what R is and now she is stuck. But if she is like a double agent I find it harder to stomach, because MC is really hurt by this. And lying and gaslighting and keeping the truth from them is just hurting them more. The lies are more forgivable if she fears jailtime or is unable to leave R, as Azkaban is a huge human rights violation

^^ this sounds literally so stressful for her if shes coming back worried. to me it almost seems like... merula is trying to protect mc in a way by keeping all this from them? and unfortunately that means she's going to feel like she has to lie and deny stuff and hide things from mc

omg hello hello!! tbh all of seventeen are really close, some just tend to be closer “on camera” vs “off camera” if that makes sense??? fans tend to really hyper-analyze some relationships more than others which is why you hear about them more often but really all of seventeen are super comfortable with each other 🥺 in general though these are the pairings that are often picked out as being super close:

jeonghan and joshua: as you pointed out these two are very close!! they’re often called the “evil twins” since they often join forces to gang up on the other members a lot fdjkalf (i made a gif comp of it before) i think also in their earlier days they were often mistaken for one another

mingyu and minghao: mingyu and minghao are definitely the “artsy” duo of the group lmao they have really similar interests when it comes to art and fashion and stuff. i think they used to be called the “tom and jerry” duo because they used to bicker a LOT fajdsklfalksf but they’re definitely super close i mean just look at this post. all of seventeen’s families are close but mingyu’s family in particular seem to have adopted minghao to the point minghao will hang out with mingyu’s dad but not mingyu fdasjkldfa

mingyu and wonwoo: wonwoo is pretty often cited as mingyu’s “favorite hyung” lmao these two are also super close and they pursue their interests in film/photography together. wonwoo talked about this a lot in his monotube interview (don’t mind me subtly promoing my scan blog)

jun and wonwoo: i guess they’re not as obvious on-camera but these two are often mentioned a lot?? they’re basically “the cat line” and they often room together when they go abroad. they strike me more as a duo that share really comfortable silences with one another

jun and minghao: china line bros!! obviously since they’re both the only chinese members they’ve naturally become SUPER close since they can speak in their mother tongue with one another. they often talk a lot about how they have “opposite personalities” but it’s perfect in that they each make up for what the other lacks.

also not intending to sound like a shipper here but in line with above, mingyu x wonwoo x jun x the8 are often called the “love square”

hoshi and dk: basically the life of the party duo lmao they always seem to be on the same wavelength and bounce off each other’s impromptu jokes really well. they have this ongoing skit in particular where they act as old grandparents

seungkwan and vernon: basically the ‘98 line hahaha i don’t really have anything specific to say about them but they’re definitely really close, probably one of the more “popular” pairings that’s a little more lowkey/behind-the-scenes-feeling if you will. you can find a lot of video compilations about their friendship

hoshi and woozi: another sort of “opposites attract” pairing LMAO woozi acts like he barely tolerates hoshi most of the time but it’s clear they’re really close. hoshi seems to hang out in woozi’s studio a lot and in general i think woozi has been teaching hoshi more about making music/recording (e.g. that horanghae song)

if you want a more “fun” dynamic, also seungkwan and dino. basically they argue a LOT lmao they clearly have like actual tense moments but they come out of it stronger as a result. their bickering is really funny though and gives us stuff like this legendary rap battle

jeonghan and dk and jeonghan and hoshi. these aren’t actually like “popular dynamics” but i’m putting them here because they stand out to me bc jeonghan seems to hang out with these two in particular a lot LMAO i think they’re his favorite dongsaengs. jeonghan REALLY loves teasing dk (there’s a lot of moments but can’t think of any specifically to pick out right now unless u want me to), and for hoshi, dino was pretty adament in this last gose episode about hoshi being jeonghan’s favorite

GHOST - all vessels are albino and have glossy black pools of void for eyes. i think proximity to the void/the pale beings influences how much the vessels grow so ghost, who ollied out early and never came back to hallownest, has been 4′7″ forever even into adulthood (theyre supposed to be in their early 20s here). yes they are Incredibly salty about this. all vessels probably started out with similar Undertale-Brand Androgynous Chin Length Haircuts(tm) with small differences; ghost's identifiers are no bangs (with that hair tucked behind their ears) & big chunky eyebrows.

HORNET - is where i started making gijinkas because i wanted to see more brown hornet lol. i see a lot of parallels between hollow knight lore & australian history in general, and the deepling-weaver lore reminded me of the makassan muslim traders who were on friendly terms with many indigenous australian groups pre-colonization. so... i got really excited about hijabi hornet and decided to Make My Own Content lol

MONOMON - i love valdotpng’s locs monomon So Much i decided to make my monomon gijinka a different ethnicity just to make sure i wouldnt copy that design lmfao. i went with korean monomon because women’s hanbok have such big poofy skirts and lots of dangly stuff (goreum etc) that could echo her jellyfish features. shes trans by the way

HERRAH - incorporated a bunch of den sculpture motifs in her crown and cloak with spiderweb patterns on the cloak hem and the front of her tunic. her and hornet’s 6-braid hairstyles when veiled are the same because i like to make myself sad, which is why baby hornet is also there on her ref

This game is a whole can of worms for me and I actually had to spend some time figuring out how to answer this.

I'm on mobile (havent really had a chance to go home much due to some emergencies at my work keeping me there overnight) so I cant put this under a readmore but..

Also, before I go on my rant I would like to say that I think that the Amnesia series in general actually had some amazing ideas behind it and almost all of my criticism are actually addressed and answered in pretty satisfying ways in the sequel games that... sadly never got localized (which is sad, as I genuinely think they actually improved the games and made the first one less of a dumpster fire)

Also, I havent played the game in years so apologies if I make some mistakes (Ikki and Touya's routes are the ones I remember the best, and if I'm honest i had no desire to load up my vita and replay it)

Anyway,

CONTENT WARNING FOR ELEMENTS OF ABUSE, DOMESTIC ABUSE/VIOLENCE, AND SEXUAL VIOLENCE/ABUSE

Now, Amnesia is a game that in general is fairly controversial and I'm honestly surprised it is as popular as it is though I think this is attributed to the fact the western audience didnt have as many of the genre at the time of it's release and it was full of pretty boys so I think the game got away with a lot more than it deserved.

That said, as a whole I think the game generally glorifies, romantisizes, and fetishizes many forms of domestic abuse, sexual abuse, and manipulation with gaslighting and the general idea that in order to have a happy relationship you have to give up who you are as a person.

(As I said before, the sequel games deal with actually making the above claim not true but they were never localized so I'm only talking about Memories)

The general premise of the game is that the MC loses her memories thanks to a mistake by a magical being and has to hide the fact she has amnesia while also dealing with the hitches this causes in her current relationship.

Except not because for the most part almost every relationship reveals they were extremely toxic/unhealthy and were likely on the verge of a breakup before the MC lost her memory and prior personality go become a dimwit with no self preservation skills.

This pops up a lot in the routes but especially in Ikki, Kent, and Touya's routes. In Ikki it becomes increasingly clear that a lot of Ikki and the MC's relationship was based on a potential lie and due to his fanbase the MC goes through near constant harassment and is almost killed on a few occasions.

But Ikki cant cut those girls off because it would "be unfair". I also find playboy types like him in general to be annoying, but the fact girls basically throw themselves at him due to his magical eyes and it is quite clear he used this to his advantage at least at one point makes him hard to sympathize with, especially considering he is fully aware how fanatic his fanclub is but doesnt actuall support or help the MC until near the end of his route.

Kent has a solid idea behind him but his route was awful in Memories. Especially because it highlighted how much of an amazing personality the MC had before her amnesia and how the two couldnt properly communicate until she lost her memories and how he actually learns she has no memories and struggles with keeping things as they are or help her get better.

On paper this sounds like an amazing idea until you start to learn just how much the two fought (it's implied they did nothing BUT fight) and it is implied the MC was about to break up with him. It is very clear the two were very much not a good match and were trying to force a relationship that shouldn't have been going on and neither was actually happy until the plot started.

Touya's route is the one that gave me the most difficulty and by that I mean I actually couldn't finish his route.

I had to ask someone else to finish the route for me due to the nature of what happens and his is by far the route that made me hate this game and I had the most problems with outside the True Route (which I feels fetishizes mental illness and physical abuse, but I'm not going into that to deeply because I'd just be repeating what in about to say).

Touya's route is... bad. Now, please understand: I work in the medical field. I've met women and had to protect them from men like Touya whose love was just "to strong" that they needed to protect them. Men that drugged, gas lit, and trapped these poor girls until they mentally broke.

I'll never forget the one girl who couldn't take it anymore and took her own life when her boyfriend tried forcing himself into the clinic to get to her. I held her neck closed with a towel until the doctor got to the room but she ended up passing during surgery.

For me, Touya's Route was seeing what that girl went through. It was a constant reminder of what all those girls that came to the clinic went through. This route made me sick to my stomach and like I said I had to have someone else finish it for me. It didnt help when I saw his bad end and realized he basically turned the MC into a drugged up sex doll which is something that happened to a woman in my area when I was twelve (only reason she was found was because her boyfriend got arrested for something and asked if a police officer could go feed his 'dog'. He didnt even see her as a person anymore)

A lot of the romance in this game was like that, but it was most prominent in this route. The red flags for abuse, the constant "they just feel to strongly" or idea that the Protagonist's former personality was the primary issue.

I think the only route I was generally ok with and kind of liked was Shin's I think.

every single day im more and more sure im some form of autistic mainly because of how relatable a lot of autistic headcannons im seeing are? Like ive never been tested and if i mention my thoughts to my family they laugh it off, and ik its really hard to diagnose women and adults because of ability to camouflage but i swear im somewhere on the spectrum. 

I’m putting a list of stuff under a readmore, but if ppl who know about autism wants to throw in their two cents i’ll gladly take it! 

  I used to do the flappy hand thing when processing/dealing with high emotions, i did it for almost a decade when i was a kid before i trained myself out of it because my family and peers used to tease me about it (my parents would laugh at me because id flap when i got frustrated and joke that im trying to fly away)

i used to do the raptor hands thing when in idle mode but when i was a teen someone told me how weird it looks/it makes ppls eyes go to my chest which makes me uncomfy so now i just clasp my hands behind my back

i can never really tell what emotion im feeling unless someone else or I voice it. like i’ll be going through all the symptoms of being stressed/mad/happy, but i wont understand what emotion that is unless i say either to myself or out loud what it is, or when others point it out “oh you look happy/ amber youre pretty mad/ why are you upset?” 

i hyper fixate on things, and only really like to talk about those things. my entire childhood it was birds, anything bird related i had to own, and it wasn’t until i moved off to uni that i stopped. Never really told anyone about it tho because it was a weird hobby. I had a cabinet full of ceramic birds and a wall of bird plushies that when pressed did their call.

For all that im told im really empathetic i REALLY don’t understand what other people are feeling. I know what they SHOULD be feeling based off of all the media I consume, and when i help them through their problems i either just tell them what i would want to hear or what the the solution to a similar problem a character in a book was going though. I’m really good at piecing together what ppl want to hear, and basing their solutions off of fanfiction/media that 90% I feel like it works? I mean ppl keep coming back for advice? but if it werent for that id have no fucking idea whats going on with other ppl

I’m weird about touch. now this COULD be from the fact that my family is very touch removed, but i find i crave touch, or the idea of touch, but when it happens i hate it, it makes my skin crawl, especially when ppl touch my neck. ive had the ladies at hair salons brush my hair before and me flinching every time they come close to my neck

while im not super about routine, i do find that when i have to follow someone elses i get annoyed, or when my time gets interrupted. but i think this is a normal human thing. but my brother has ocd and follows a strict routine from when he wakes up to how long he brushes his teeth so maybe im a little biased with that as a mindset for routine following

Im super particular about texture. I wont eat certain foods because of how they feel when im chewing it, velvet makes me want to rip off my skin when i touch it and i have to wipe my hands off on other fabric when i do, my skin feels super sensitive to touch so much so that seams and off textures make me what to scratch my skin off, and i often get large red welts when it happens, i also cant stand the feeling of liquid on my lips when i drink or eat, so i have to lick it off after (or pat it with a napkin) but ive noticed that no one else in my friends or family do that, and im trying to stop cause im being teased over it but its hard cause the wet feeling is AWFUL

side note on the scratching thing: i often do it when im in high emotional situations, dragging my nails up and down my legs or arms is kinda of relaxing and im im just now kinda realizing that this could be the bad version of the flapping i used to do, because i didnt scratch when i flapped, but now that i stopped the welts are here. ive also only broken my skin ONCE but i was in depressive spiral so eh. 

Im so great at mimicking other people and do it so naturally that i actually had to talk with my therapist about that because i was having identity issues over the fact that i dont know who i am anymore because i just pick up other peoples ways of acting (gestures, walking, what to do with my hands) and talking (phrases, tone, ways of thinking, etc) and often decide what im going to do that would have the best social impact on ppl like im picking a choice from a phrase wheel in a video game (Ive stopped doing this as much since therapy, and now i feel like i do it a normal human amount)  

when i was in elementary, i was a fucking angry kid, for no apparent that i can tell because i could never tell when i was pissed unless other ppl told me to calm down. I remember literally talking to a friend in highschool who had anger problems and i remember finding it annoying and telling myself “im not going to act like that” and then suddenly i wasnt angry anymore and the thought of punching someone is gross, but my sister stil tells me sometimes that im “violent” but i literally can never recall me doing anything like that anymore???? so whatever

So everyone knows Raph as the goofy wide grinned happy boy that cant control his wheezing laughter, but he didnt always used to be like that.When he was 15-18 he had a very very bad temperament issue, like a very severe one.He would take his frustrations out on anything and everything and anyone that got in his wayIt wasnt as if his frustrations werent valid, he was a mutant turtle with no friends other than Casey and April, he couldnt live a normal human life, he couldnt live in comfort, he had Leo and Splinter riding his ass about training and controlling himself and being the big brother to Don and Mikey that he needed to be

He felt alone and unwanted and unappreciated, and he hated it, and therefore hated everyone else

It got so bad to the point Raph almost took it too far, and he almost took it too far one the brother he loved and wanted to protect the most- Mikey.

In a blind rage he had hurt Mikey, and had in all honesty even almost killed him but before he could do anything irreversible, Leo had stepped in and dragged him away and topside to get fresh air, though that turned out to only fuel the fire more when Leo took him topside and started to ask him ‘what the fuck’ he was doing/thiking

Raph at the time had hated Leo for being leader, hated taking orders, hated that he had to listen to someone that was the same age as him but was somehow better 

They ended up fighting, an all out brawl, a serious all out brawl and its why Raph’s shell is cracked, why his plastron has a crack, and why Leo has scars on his thighs and upper right arm

Leo won the fight after a long drawn out fight between brothers, and as Raph caught his breath Leo stepped over and grabbed the ends of Raphs mask tails, saying ‘If youre not going to act like a true ninja you dont deserve to wear the mask’ and ended up cutting the ends off as a kind of punishment

He also banished Raph to Caseys house (since they were best friends) and told him not to come back until he knew deep down that he was ready to come back and face his family and learn to control the anger he felt at the world

Raph at caseys and Leo back home it seemed fine, only when you looked into the distance and noticed that some of bishops men had seen the entire brawl and reported it back to their boss, who in turn smiled and set up a plan to catch all the turtles at once so he could finally get his revenge and further his studies on the creatures

2 or so weeks pass with Raph at Caseys, none of his brothers had called or texted cept for Mikey who only texted saying he hoped Raph was okay and that he forgave him and understood how Raph felt, and after thsoe two weeks Raph had went trhough a lot of turmoil but had finally calmed himself down and started to understand that he needed help and needed the help of his brothers and his family and had decided that he was ready to go back home

On his way home however he was ambushed, snatched by Bishops men and gagged, tied up and frisked until they found his phoneBishop taking it and sending out a text to his brothers, turning to Raph and smiling saying ‘You were going back to make up with your brothers yea? Well they’ll be here soon,,,it’ll be a big family reunion’

And sure enough, out of worry all three had comeLeo burst in, expecting to see Raph ready to give him intel on the robbery/crime that he had caught someone doing that he had send a text asking them for help for, but instead he found his brother captured, trying desperately to tell him its a trap that he should turn around but it was too late as he was hit hard from behind and pinned to the ground by Bishop himself

The mad man laughing uncontrollably while he smooshed Leos face into the ground as he heard Donnie and Mikey get captured as well outside, leaning down and laughing in Leos face that he cant believe that worked

 ( if you read him as just spoiled it doesnt make sense that he’d pass autographs up imo, but i read him as not use to positive attention hes like shifty and avoidant, but he does have his fans, his team is cute after all! but i think hardcore fans of the game might also be like dubious the legitmency of a chairman backed trainer rather that super pumped up about it, idk trying to make sense of why he wasnt cold bopping like gary oak and imo its cause hes super shy and his team isnt like flashy its soft without the e-boy status, like its hard to maintain that fake gucci persona without huge breakdowns and temper tantrums, thats my read anyway)

(again no change! i could evo this one in this time frame, but im keeping the progression canon like, it was so well done in game for once it really feels like you grow with bede and a completely theme coherant team instead of like theme gimmick and just same type, it shows off how varsitile pkmn can be in character writing)

TeeVee Podcast’s Voltron s8 review

I’ve been waiting eagerly for TeeVee’s review of s8. If you recall, their s7 review was what gave us the man getting choked up about Shiro’s relationship. 

The link to the podcast is here but if you’d prefer a sort of transcript, here are some of the highlights for me. I didn’t always catch who was speaking but I wrote down initials where I could. S=Shanon, A=Antony, M=Moises, C=Chip D=Dan. The panel is divided on their feelings on the season. 2 of them seem to have hated it, one liked it, one thought it was fine, and one feels mixed about it. Anyway here we go, some great quotes ahead. 

Under the readmore cuz it’s long. 

S: "After 7 seasons of a show that was going to be one of the animated series of the decade, they not only did not stick the landing, they fell on their butts, rolled off the mat, off the lines, into the judge's table and their leotard popped open"

"A lot of the plot was callbacks to things from seasons ago that we really probably didn't need to see again." "I wasn't entirely sure that they weren't gaslighting me."

Man Shannon is calling out some great points. She's calling out the dropped druid plot thread, and wondering what the point was of showing Lotor's past when he's dead, and nothing can change in his present and his redemption can't really happen.

A: "endings are hard. I was disappointed with this season [...] it was let down by poor plotting and that final battle made me throw my hands up in despair most of the time. But I have enormous sympathy for the EPs. Maintaining a longform episodic story is hard. And to pull off an ending that satisfies even MOST of the audience is harder yet. and let's not forget they were always upfront that vt always had 'editorial interference' from up top. Toys, the fact that it's aimed at children, corp resistance to some of the more modern social issues that they've tried to tackle. THAT SAID, we don't know what happened on this production, who had the final say, what they argued over. and I say this cuz a lot of the fandom drama over it assumes a LOT over how media and entertainment like this is made that simple ARE. NOT. TRUE. Some of the stuff I've read has been ABSURDLY offbase, like that there were different writers rather than just 1 the whole way through which ignores how TV is made. And if you think these writers just go off and write a script without talking to anyone first and then they come back with something that must be filmed without any changes, THAT'S NOT HOW ANY OF THIS WORKS. [..]we don't know who made these decisions. The studio isn't always the bad guy. Sometimes they rescue things that would otherwise have been a horrible mess. And unless you were IN THE ROOM, you don't know, and neither do any of us. So let's all bear that in mind. [...]You can't lay the blame OR credit on any one person. For any of this." 

They're laughing & making so much fun of the final 3 episodes and how baffling they were. 

"Don't even get me started on Voltron merging with Atlas [and the crew disappearing] that was a bad, bad idea." 

"But that was the ONE time Shiro was back with the team!"

a couple dudes are relatively ok with the Allura death because we've never seen a WOC heroically sacrifice herself for the universe and usually it's the Shiro hero character D: They also point out that technically she wasn't fridged so.. yay?

Antony and Shannon vehemently disagree. 

A: "My problem with that ending was more just that it was... not. good." he makes a comparison to RotJ where Vader still dies and it's his SON, who lives, who 'redeems' him. "This was none of those things. It felt like a terrible lesson. You can be so evil that you kill literally billions of people for 10k yrs but if you say sorry just before you're about to be executed it's alright, dw about it, we'll put the universe back to rights. NO, that's a terrible lesson!!"

S:"They had the LIONS. That's my problem. Throughout this series we've had stakes going up but there has always been a trading of ideas, what can we do, what can we figure out, up to the point where they wind up sacrificing the castle, but they go through steps before that 'is there anything else we can do’. And here, there's not even... she didn't even get to say goodbye to Coran! This is the one character, WOC, and she has sacrificed throughout this entire series. She lost her planet. She lost the last connection she had to her father in the AI. She kept LOSING things over and over to the point where she sacrifices her crown to help Shiro. and the thanks she gets is that she has to turn around and say nope I've got to away and fix all of this and apparently never see you all again. It really, REALLY REALLY bothered me. All of my friends who have CHILDREN who watch this show, universally the kids were upset and angry and tearful and HATED that outcome. This did not feel like a triumph. Having to lose Allura like that robbed any kind of triumph in the success of saving all the universes. And I think that's one of the reasons that this last part of the season sits so poorly with me. I feel like it should have ended in a triumphant way. even if it meant losing a couple of the team members or the lions. Of course that takes away the toy aspect which is why that's not an option. We already had several tragedy arcs in this series. Zarkon, Honerva, and Lotor had tragedy arcs. Why does Allura have to have one too? We've had enough." 

Antony & Shanon KILLIN IT on this podcast y'all.

C: "This series relies so much on 'oh wait, there's a new upgrade', 'oh wait, there's this new thing'" A: "Well that was the entire final battle." C: "So there's this handwavy Allura has to sacrifice herself. The heavy lifting wasn't done to make this an earned moment."

S: "I do think, whether it was at the direction of DW or WEP (Vld IP), without those little epilogue cards, there is the potential opening that Allura might be able to return.[..]It was open to interpretation."

One guy likes the Shiro ending for the surprising progress aspect, even though he's not thrilled about how it was put together. also he isn't convinced the epilogue wasn't planned. He likes a lot of s8 but all the stuff he likes is tied to stuff that he really didn't like.

S:"The shiro card is the other reason that I think those things were shoved in. For me, that turns Shiro's entire character into a token when he wasn't before. When they introduced his sexuality, it was done BEAUTIFULLY. There was this conversation with his significant other a mature relationship that ran into its problems and therefore couldn't happen anymore. Adam could've been Adele, and nothing would have changed about that conversation. It was not the defining characteristic of Shiro. It was just something else about him."

S: "And then s8 happens and Shiro is divided from everybody on the team. There are so few interactions of any kind that aren't just barking orders. or making plans. Keith is the prime example. Their friendship had been a backbone of this series and suddenly they can't even stand more than feet 5ft from each other. 

A: “It’s barely evident, yeah.”

M:”And the same with the rest of the main cast. And if they had set that up at the end of s7, that he’s going to go into the background a bit, it wouldn’t have felt as weird.

S: “And they didn’t! S7 was miraculous in the fact that even though he’s no longer in a lion, he’s still got a vital part to play in the series. And s8 erased that. It pretty much neutered him! And the kind of message is once you've revealed this character to be gay, we've gotta keep him out of the way. And if they had not put those end cards in, again the fact that he's a gay man is just the fact that he's a gay man and it's not any bigger or smaller aspect of his character, but they did not EARN him marrying random bridge crew member #3."

A: "and RETIRING! A man who LEFT adam because he felt he had to go and fight."

A: "He left the guy he loved before because of his devotion to"

S:"To fighting to making things right"

A:”To being a soldier and doing the right thing.”

C:”Isn’t the whole point then that he achieves that?”

M:”The fighting’s over and he can leave that behind and he can actually be happy.”

S: “He wouldn’t’ve. I don’t see it.”

M: “I violently disagree.”

C: “I think it was a nice endcap for his character."

Moises also likes this because it’s not a BYG scenario and he gets retired. Shannon is extremely exasperated by these takes. 

S:”For me, it’s like Tangled. You go through Rapunzel and Flynn, going through their adventures, getting closer, getting to know each other, they save each other, things like that. And then she’s reunited with her parents and then we get and endcap that says ‘for political reasons her parents decided they needed to marry her off to the prince in the next county, sorry’. That would’ve had people RIOTING. Thats not how you do a story with characters that people care about. And to shove shiro off onto this random character that we--his name is never spoken!”

A:”No he had like 3 lines in the entire season.”

S:”He had 3 line sin the season, you don’t know his name unless you watched the subtitles, and in the audio narration for the visually impaired, they called him Adam in the endcap. They called him Adam! They fixed that now. It feels like a hugely clumsy attempt to grab the woke points for a character that didn’t need them.”

Moises then talks a little about Shiro and Keith and how he and Shannon both thought there was something there, and still do, but they can’t know what happened behind the scenes and to theorize on the intent of that relationship is “conspiracy theory land” and trying to decide what the writers were prevented from doing is like “reading tea leaves and chicken bones”. He references people extracting things from his own writing. 

M: “As much as I wanted to see that relationship flower and flourish, the fact that it didn’t, look, it’s one of a million times that’s happened for me, with fiction, where things didnt turn out the way I wanted to see them.”

S:”I’m talking about 2 different things, as far as Shiro’s character, vs shipping  issues. I feel Shiro’s character was done a disservice that if they were going to end him in a relationship with another man, they didn’t earn it by throwing that little endcap on.”

M:”Yeah, they could have brought back one less robeast or something.”

S:”The other thing is, I think there is enough out there as far as interviews with JDS and LM to show that at the very least I think they meant to leave it openended. Again  if you take out that endcap, the last shot includes a shot of just Shiro and Keith, together, same screen, looking up as the lions go away, without saying anything further. I know I pie in the sky hoped that they were gonna kiss this season when we did our s7 recap and yes that was the shipper in me talking. I truly did not expect that they would be able to go that far. What I did not expect was for them to tear it down. And I feel like that’s what they did. Between the complete absence of interactions in s8, and then throwing that epilogue in there.”

Dan doesn’t understand how that could be because he sees no reason for them to do that. Shannon patiently explains about DW’s history with LGBT characters but Dan insists that the creators told the story the way they wanted to and he’s fine with Shiro getting a marriage even if it’s a character they don’t know. 

Overall the panelists love the show still, and in most cases prefer to consider it in the realm of s1-6 with a weak final double season (7&8) or that the show ends after s7. They would all love to know how long the NDAs last, a making of perhaps, to know what the heck happened and what changed along the way. Big mood my dudes. Big mood.

   Both actually! if you try to comment on the plot or react to an actor, immediately you get rudely shushed with the most scorching glare because how DARE you, focus on the ~ART~ you heathen!!! but also the Moment a slightly more advanced special effect takes place, he is all hoppin on his seat excitedly explaining how it’s done and how genius that is, how would he improve on it and how another movie dealt with it, the dialogue for the big plot reveal goin on the screen be damned :’D Also as the movie advances, he starts gettin more and more into long passionate rants either complaining about the lack/surfeit of respect the creators got, how arrogant this one actor is and how he doesnt respect his cues and so on….. lots of the stuff he says is actually pretty interesting but yeah, if you counted on just enjoying the movie, tough luck 

   He really likes watchin movies with people but prefers to see the movie first on his own at least once, to really focus on it. Often, he will watch a movie in the livin room while others do their own thing and he will comment on the good scenes, however if you agreed to actually watch somethin with him and got distracted during screening or worse, was on your phone?? you are dead to him. (and you can expect some …unpleasant surprises in the upcoming days)

☾ - sleep headcanon

Beck is the UGLIEST sleeper, he is the worst. He snores loudly, drools, moves, KICKS, mumbles and has the most vivid wildest dreams. (it happens rarely but sometimes he’ll dream about somethin, wake up and for a while be convinced it actually happened, you know like when you dream about arguing with your friend and being mad at them the next day etc) On the other hand, sometimes, all his features relax, he loses the scowl and looks surprisingly peaceful and happy… oh and he hogs the blanket.  

His sleep schedule is a fuckin mess, he is able to go like the whole week on few hours of sleep total when he is workin on a project but other days he gets grumpy if he doesnt get his 10h of beauty sleep every night..

uhhh i dont actually have much sad stuff for this boy yet, he brings me so much joy that i dont have the heart for that :’’’D (also i like him and chameleon team ups and Dmitri brings enough angst to the table for the both of them)

He really actually died that one time and went to hell (though in Patchwork, im not gonna keep everythin about that Daredevil plot, i really like Mysti being dangerous and actually a worthy opponent but most of it was too fucked up for my tastes…) and well… it wasnt great :’D  it mostly targeted his insecurities about his own talent he buried so deep he almost stopped believing them, the lack of respect and recognition and him willingly throwing away any chance he had at those by becoming Mysterio and of course everything that happened with his ex Brick Johnson…

he doesnt have a hair trigger temper like Ock or Electro but Damn does this boy holds grudges over literally everything :’D lots of overcomplicated, carefully crafted revenge plots just for eating the last yogurt in the fridge… He gets frustrated easily, getting snappy and rude, especially if people are not listening to him, but it’s often about the pettiest things, the bigger stuff doesnt affect him as much.  

He doesnt enjoy violence for the sake of violence but he is not above it either, everythin is allowed for his big performance…… he can be quite a good n friendly boss if you listen to his orders and work well but can just as much set you up to die in an explosion, all while smiling and patting you on the back…

my Mysterio is gay as hell but also somewhere on the ace spectrum… not sex-repulsed but definitely not a high drive either (he feels oddly smug about that, like look at those fools trying to get into each others’ pants, how pathetic, *I* in the meantime have time for things that Truly matter, like recreating every Xmen battle ever with only straws and gum.) 

■ -  Bedroom/house/living quarters headcanon

listen, i basically grew up on those “the entire villain team lives in a single place - shenanigans ensue” fics so im not givin up on the Sinister Six HQ, okay. (Chameleon usually finds them a suitable house with enough rooms, as luxurious as their current fonds allow, and he prides himself in putting in lil personal touches that he knows the sin six members would enjoy, for Quentin it’s often very obscure movies, rare memorabilia from his favorite ones, stuff for his illusions, a stolen Oscar…) 

 When these are unavailable (aka superheroes got them busted) or when he aint in the middle of a crime job, he usually stays at one of the Cham’s safehouses (with or without him) and in a few of them, he already has his own dedicated room with some of his fav old tricks on display. Speakin of which, he has a BIG warehouse with most of his setups and stages or at least models. He doesnt really plan on reusing them but he likes having them all together

Beck being an Extra Bitch he is, lives for the Big Romantic Gestures like in the movies and he often gets so caught up in the prep he.. kinda disregards the person he was makin it for, the making of the effect means more for him than  the actual sentiment behind it… 

(ok maybe One mysteleon hc, while it pains him, Quentin knows Chammy Would Not Enjoy being a target of such grand display… he gotta be more subtle, creating a scene where he could play in disguise and dupe some superheroes mayhaps…)

like 99% of the villains and their grandma, his family wasnt great, mum left when he was very young with another guy, his dad considered his passion for movies a great waste of time and let lil Quentin know how disappointed he was at every occasion both vocally and physically.. After the first few broken models and ripped tapes with stop animations that took weeks to complete, Quentin stopped tryin to impress and convince his father about the greatness of special effects.. He joined a boxing club and learnt some other martial arts but as soon as he could, he left to join a proper film school which led to his father dropping both financing and all contact with him. 

☮ - friendship headcanon

Im not even gonna start about Chameleon’s and Mysterio’s friendship because that shit is canon and i cry about it on a daily basis. 

Despite his penchant for Dramatics, the constant Need for Validation and Backstabbing and other Throwing Shit in the Fan just cuz it was narratively better, Quentin actually has quite a few friends? He gets along quite well with everyone from the Sin Six and many other villains and even has some ‘normie’ pals from the film industry or just neighborhood… 

One of his most surprising is actually Doc Ock with whom he gets along even outside of business partners/partners in crime basis. Though maybe not so surprising, Mysterio is quite vocal with his praises when he feels like they are deserved and Doc as well actually admires and recognizes Beck’s talent while it is still enough specific for him not to feel threatened in his superiority (once he tried to improve them and show them to Quentin with his usual arrogance and flair and that was the biggest fight they ever had and they werent on speaking terms for a loooong while after that… Oct cant stand not having the last word so he still modified some of Mysterio’s tricks even after that but he actually cares about their friendship enough to not tell Mysti about it.. Not like he would ever admit that to Quentin’s fishbowl face)

like 99% of everythin Mysti does is Somehow related to special effects/film or the Drama in general but my boy is a nerd in general, theater, books, comics, manga, roleplaying games, you name it. He especially likes flashy stuff obviously. 

He really enjoys learning new techniques and figuring out how to make something happen. When he was younger, he was viciously against CGI but later he started to sorta respect it as its own category that needs talent and effort… he still prefers to use the traditional techniques of course :’D (…as traditional as HYPNOTIZING PEOPLE WITH NEURAL GAZ IS)

He has a very Complicated relationship with the film industry……. on the one hand, he loves the behind the scenes, the rush, the Action…. but on the other hand, he hates it with a fiery passion, everythin from how you get treated like dirt and the pretentious prizes being awarded just for the Big names and hollywood and everythin turning around the money an-…., he has a very long list and it is alphabetized. (While he has a point for many of those complaints, the fact HE himself never got any pretentious award remains probably the main issue…) 

he absolutely despises people making fun of D-grade shitty movies in the “this shitty horror is so cheesy and dumb it’s funny and i love it” way, either because the people workin on it were good and trying their best but the money or the producers etc ruined it (his experience) and then it’s an unfair critique or because the creators just didnt try hard enough and that’s even worse in his books and this movie should not get Any Attention much less a positive one.. 

he likes complaining and being snarky :’D he enjoys the challenge Spidey sets for them and loves playing tag with him (even when he loses..) He loves the prep before his big shows both alone or with help, the adrenalin when actually pulling it off and when he discusses it with Cham in details. He lives for the applause and recognition and ~Fame~

hhhhh im conflicted, there are like 3 comics where Q is retired because he has enough of superheroes beating him up and he Really doesnt want to go back to it.. I cant see him actually givin up on it totally tho… idk idk

♒ - cooking/food headcanon

Like with sleep, it oscillates wildly. He can forget to eat when he is hypefocusin on a particular project (one single chip suffices as nourishment) or he just subsides on ramen for a month but on the other hand he is quite a capable cook. Nothing Extraordinary but he can make enough diverse simple meals. When livin with Chammy, they both enjoy eating out so they do that as much as the budget allows (so not that much, illusions arent cheap…)

im still thinkin about that one post that described Quentin as a “toenail of a man” and i couldnt agree more :’D very short, pig nose, hairstyle à la Spock, stocky built and weirdly beefy, like this guy’s thigh is bigger than some heads… (for a nerd he is surprisingly strong what the fuck) 

All Mysterios are Good Mysterios but my preferred ones have a bigass ROUND fishbowl, the longest cape and somethin as a belt, preferably sash.. 

ൠ - random headcanon

he actually isnt….. that great of an actor nor director nor creator………………….. (im sorry baby i love you but it’s tru….) he unconsciously copies a lot of stuff he has seen elsewhere, he follows overused tropes, his work is packed with cliches and cheesy over the top pathos… his special effects mastery n creativity with workin out his illusions is absolutely INCREDIBLE dont get me wrong, it’s just… the plot/ideas……..  at first he lived in denial about this still believing 100% his work is Wonderful and Perfect and he is just a misunderstood author… later he decided to embrace it and he is livin the life now :D
