The Justice League had finally given the go ahead to officially form the Young Justice. Not that any of them were going to stop regardless of having permission. Since the Justice League had opened up their slots for more than the original six earlier that year, Batman thought it would be a good opportunity to use the Young Justice to help reach out and recruit some other heroes without drawing too much attention by going themselves. With protégés of most of the originals in the roster it was a solid plan.
They had been told about their newest "assignment" (if you could even call it that) earlier that day and they would be leaving in the morning. They were supposed to go meet a duo in Illinois (it was their base of operation even though they'd worked in other place). Phantom has been in the vigilante/hero scene for almost 10 years now, and Red Huntress started a few months after him.
Their names were well known, Dick had known of them even before he became Robin. But despite their national (maybe even International fame) little was actually known about the duo and the rumored Team Phantom that alluded to there being more than just the two. Dick had been a big fan of Phantom, and modeled a lot of his moves off of the super-powered hero.
Batman told them that they had already reached out the Phantom (Red Huntress had deferred them to him, and refused to speak with them afterwords) and he agreed to meet the YJ team and mentor them for a designated amount of time. There had been rumors in certain forums that the JLA had reached out to Phantom to be one of the original members of the league but he had turned them down. When Kid Flash had brought it up during the meeting, Batman refused to confirm or deny (which was proof enough).
The plan was for the YJ would stay in Amity Park for 15 days and learn from them, they would check in after that to see weather their stay should be extended. Specifically citing that their legendary teamwork would be incredibly beneficial to learn from to strengthen them as a team. The other plan, and equally as important, was to warm them up to joining the JLA ranks since a direct invitation hadn't been received favorably.
All that was thrown in the window when, three days in, the YJ, Phantom and Red Huntress get portaled to an unknown destination, with strange and unknown life(?) forms, with no supplies, no working communicators, and worst of all, no way back.

we should've had a beach episode somewhere between the high tension episodes in s15 so i could atleast have died in peace. like. maybe after death is gone and Jack is fine and before people start disappearing. just like they're just waiting for something to happen, sitting on their butts, and one of them asks "what now?" and then dean — probably. probably dean — just like. stands up. claps his hands together and goes. let's go to the beach. and everyone's incredulous for a second and sam almost tries to fight him on it but in the end it's like. last night on earth. what ELSE are they gonna do. and so they do. they go to the beach. and they have a good time. they genuinely have a good time..they even meet a monster but it's a good monster™ and that's basically like an omen somewhere in the middle. like everything supernatural is like. feeling the End Of Times. and they're running or trying to hide or whatever. and like. we have these reminders the whole time..make me sad, i say! give me joy, remind me its fleeting. think that episode of the good place where they know they're fucked, before they go to heaven, when they're just sitting around drinking and having a party before shawn sends someone to close down the neighborhood in s2.
capaldi once said that doctor who is so loved universally bc, at its core, it's about death. and he's right. any good piece of media is about death. because it's about life. and to quote my favourite television show of all time, there is one truth to life, and it is death. anyway. i think that episode could have been that. something that rooted us in their humanity, and their life, in the simple joy of it, even as it preceded something terrible.

from a vibes perspective, i totally understand why so many people look at keefe and go ‘this guy would be the male equivalent of a wine aunt when he’s older’.
but. but.
taking lore into consideration, in my heart, he’s terrified of alcohol (even if he tries really hard to hide it). because. like. his first exposure is almost guaranteed to be through cassius, and cassius canonically threw a glass extremely close to him at least once when he was, like, 8. maybe cassius wasn’t always extra nasty when he was drunk, but there’s gotta be a correlation in keefe’s brain between risking getting seriously hurt (emotionally or physically) and alcohol consumption that’s really hard for him to shake.

Ngl if anyone tried to make a whole legal stink about anyone I fucked when I was younger, I'd probably try to sue them for emotional damages or something. Cause like... that's my business. Why dafuq you involving me in this shit I don't want anything to do with even as a kid I was too busy for this shit.
In fact I wish I remembered the names of cops who fucked w me for no reason bc someone stuck their nose in my business so I could take them to court over misuse of force and whatnot. Like I was a traumatized kid why tf r u as an adult with a gun using this much force on me hello? I just. Wish I could fuck over everyone who fucked me over + everyone who was used to fuck me over. The legal way. But the legal option is only ever viable for people who ALREADY have power and money and shit.
I just genuinely despise people who stick their nose in my business and try to "fix things" or "save me" from stuff I don't need saving from which is usually also stuff that I'm actually saving myself with. (See: possession of a deadly weapon. Bitch called the pigs on me bc i said i was scared n just holding onto something so if someone tried something I had any shot at fighting back. It wasn't even a gun. Get your ass out of my business the fuck? I was A KID. A SCARED KID. There is actually 0 reason at all to do this. What the fuck else am I supposed to do just let myself get beat up or killed cuz I'm too small to fight back? No way. Leave your corrupt little system out, I want to live ty.)
Or like. Playing hero when no one fucking asked for a hero. And somehow, it's never when you ACTUALLY want or need someone to save or help you. Always when you have things handled or even when it's a complete non-issue. Like "oh you had sex w someone older that's iLLeGaL." Ok??? Leave me tf alone tho??
Idk the systems that were supposedly there to protect me only served to harm or at the very least wildly inconvenience me and the people who were most self-proclaimedly "helpful" were usually the most happy to ruin my life for their stupid white knight shit. If you want to play hero and expose someone to something you don't even know anything ab cuz u never went thru it... stop. Stop playing hero. Stop thinking u can save everyone with ur by-the-book mini-cop shit. No one likes you. Even normal people think you're a whiny lil snitch with nothing better to do than stick your nose in someone's business.
