Arguing that Alicent wanting Rhaenyra to confess the truth is wrong because it’ll mean the deaths of her children overlooks that Viserys already knows the truth, and yet has done nothing.  Meaning if Rhaenyra did confess,  Viserys wouldn’t execute his own daughter and grandchildren.  Like seriously, this is the same man who allowed Daemon back to court twice after exiling him and blinds himself to whispers of him murdering his first wife- a greater crime IMO than Rhaenyra pretending her kids are trueborn.  As I’ve said before, the worst that Viserys would do in terms of punishing Rhaenyra is to remove her and her children as heirs.
However, concerning Rhaenyra- given the fact that she knows her brothers are challenges to her succession (because she’s not a fool)- do you honestly think that if she knew her half-brothers were in fact bastards (perhaps Alicent slept with someone else) that she would not hesitate in exposing that because it would benefit her children, the same way Alicent is looking out for the interests of hers?
No, she wouldn’t.  Any person who argues otherwise is kidding themselves.  And the funny thing about that is such exposure would put Alicent and her children in danger of being executed.

everything old is new again. i still don't understand the plants who are cowboy mercenaries? maybe? brothers or clones or possibly in love? However I have now learned the term "American Feelings Yakuza" and unlike the plant men I feel like that phrase provokes a strong intuitive understanding. what a delightful combination of words.

Fuck the SCOTUS. For a country that preaches freedom of liberty, our current government is doing a rather trash job. Abortion is healthcare. It’s a universal right and it’s for all genders. Roe vs. Wade protected that right since 1973. I can’t say this more directly, but today isn’t a loss for women, the revoking of Roe is a loss for humanity. Just because some self-entitled people in our government decided to revoke abortion rights doesn’t mean that abortion is going to end. People are going to find ways and it’ll be horrifying compared to the currently practiced medically-safe techniques. I hope that going forward there will be a time when humans will once again recognize the importance of abortion rights and reinstate the freedom of choice. I pray for the countless people who may lose access to safe abortion now. I feel like this is all I’ve had to say about America recently, but I’ll say it again. A government exists for its people. Do better.

ranting about GCs/t*rfs sorry!!! just been seeing too much of this stuff on twitter and i have to get my thoughts out so they stop bothering me T_T so yeah feel free to skip this, it’s just me being angry at how awful these people are and pointing out stuff we all already know lol
so like, it’s not that i didn’t believe in the gender critical --> right wing pipeline but it feels like during the pandemic it’s been streamlined to a scary degree, and the average GC’er these days (not necessarily on tumblr, but on any other social media p much) is completely indistinguishable from the average right wing fascist or qanon except that they maybe throw the word “feminist” in every so often.
it’s so evil and at this point i have no idea how those people are ever going to see how far removed from reality they’ve gotten when they’ve been completely poisoned by the anti trans hate machine feeding them misinformation and keeping them in a state of perpetually reaffirming each other’s beliefs thru dog piling trans people & preying on each other’s emotional vulnerability to things like SA.
it’s like. they accuse us of being disconnected from reality/~denying biology~/not understanding basic biology/being misogynistic/being homophobic, when they’re the ones who are all those things! and it’s so scary that they can’t see it. they’re the ones who don’t know the most basic trans 101 concepts (like that “transition” can refer to more than medical transition) and they still think they’re qualified to have an opinion on our humanity bc they’ve been told that the status quo and their gut reactions to things are just “common sense”/”just the way things are” rather than something that has been taught to us that we can and should question.
they can’t/won’t see beyond their own perspective, so it makes sense to them to say that we “deny our biology”, and to assume that trans people are literally claiming to change our chromosomes or something, because they’ve decided THEIR definition of man/woman is xy/xx (or whatever 1 specific trait they’ve decided on that day that will tooootally prove sex is binary), and by that definition sure, trans people would be lying if they said they could be another sex/gender than whatever they were assigned at birth, but that’s not what trans people are saying!
they’re so unbelievably self centered and sheltered in their echo chamber that they can’t/won’t understand that someone can have a different framework for talking about sex/gender. they’ll go “gender identity isn’t real!!” , but then immediately make themselves forget that trans people are often referring to gender when they say “i’m a man/woman/nonbinary” so they can make up some straw man argument that by a trans man saying he’s a man, that’s equivalent to him saying he has xy chromosomes.
(i mean, technically i would say that my biology is male/nb because i’m male/nb, but i don’t define “male” as “has xy chromosomes”. i’m saying that bci’m transmasc (an afab person who feels that “cis woman” is an incomplete/incorrect description of my gender), so my body is also transmasc because it’s my body. i’m saying that a male body can have ovaries/high estrogen/chromosomes other than xy, etc)
they’ll happily dog pile trans people right alongside right wing reactionaries/racists/homophobes who call people “groomers” (and they’ll go right along with the “groomer” thing too of course). if they really were feminists or whatever, you’d think that they would be calling out the fascist misogynists who they’re participating in these attacks with, but they don’t they just ignore them at best, and actively celebrate them at worst?
it’s like. how do you change someone’s mind when they’re plugging their ears so hard it’s almost comical? how can those people be reached? can they learn to think more critically? is that what the problem is? it’s already hard for people to swallow their pride and admit they were wrong about something minor, but this is something these people have based huge parts of their identity around ykwim? they’ll accuse trans people of being in a cult, and basing their whole identity around being trans, but then GC’ers have social media profiles that are Entirely dedicated to antagonizing trans people, and trying to make us unsafe. i have no idea how people could change their minds on a scale large enough to make even a dent in their community
(which is far and away more cult-like than the lgbtq+ community lmao. i remember seeing a r*dfem tell another r*dfem that she shouldn’t see her male therapist bc he’s ~male~ and therefore inherently can’t be trusted and doesn’t see her as human, despite the other r*dfem saying that she likes the therapist and has seen him for a long time, but she’s not sure how to bring up her views on trans people to him. and that same Popular r*dfem telling other women that the best way to find other r*dfems irl was not to look for r*dfems themselves, but literally to look for women in their community who look vulnerable and lonely and start feeding them anti-trans propaganda in order to convert them.
the way that they feed each other news stories (often unreliable ones, too) about transfems being arrested for SA (identical to how racist right wingers use stories about someone from a marginalized group committing a crime to justify their racism/homophobia/etc etc), along w other scaremongering tactics, it’s so obvious that it keeps them in a semi-constant state of being triggered and afraid and angry that would cloud anyone’s critical thinking skills & make them more vulnerable to uncritically consuming misinfo)
(i remember years back now, when there was a post going around r*dfem tumblr that was a supposed masterlist of examples of trans women committing sex crimes, yet when it was actually investigated, nearly all were completely unverified claims from homophobic/misogynist far right/christian “news sites” where no arrest record could be found, or other just as untrustworthy sources)

ICJ Ruling
Okay, let's get into this.
First of all, I get the frustration at the court not ordering a ceasefire. I was disappointed and frustrated at first too, since a ceasefire was the biggest and most important preliminary measure South Africa was requesting - and of course we just all want this horror to finally end for the people in Gaza. So I get the frustration and disappointment, I really do.
However, I do think this ruling is still a major win for South Africa, Palestine, and international law as a whole and here's why:
The court acknowledged that it has jurisdiction over this case and completely dismissed Israel's request to throw out the case as a whole. It will now determine at the merits stage (that will probably take years) whether Israel is actually commiting genocide.
The court acknowledged that Palestinians are a "distinct national or ethnic group and therefore deserving of protection under the genocide convention". Pull this out next time someone tells you "there's no such thing as Palestinians, they're all just Arabs".
The court acknowledged very unambiguously that "at least some" of Israel's actions being genocidal in nature is "plausible". South Africa has a case, officially. Israel is accused of genocide, in a way the ICJ deems "plausible", officially. This is huge. (And seriously, how freaking satisfying was it to hear all of those genocidal statements by Israeli politicians read out loud and used as justification for this rulling?)
The court might not have ordered a "ceasefire" in those words, but they did order Israel to "immediately end all genocidal acts" (which includes killing and injuring Palestinians) and submit proof that they actually did. How are they going to comply with this ruling without at least severly reducing or changing what they're doing in Gaza?
In fact, this wording might actually be more appropriate for a genocide (vs a war), as author and journalist Ali Abunimah notes on Twitter:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He's completely right. Israel lost today, by overwhelming majority (I mean, 15 to 2? I heard people predict the rulings would be very close, like 9 judges vs 8, but instead we got 15 to 2 (and even 16 to 1 on the humanitarian aid). Holy shit.) The court disimissed almost everything Israel's side of lawyers said, while acknowledging that South Africa's accusations are "plausible".
And this is important especially because of Mr Abunimah's second tweet there^. Because the question is, where do we go from here?
This ruling means that Israel is officially /possibly/ commiting genocide and that should have huge international consequences. The rest of the world now HAS to take these accusations seriously and stop arming and supporting Israel - and if they won't do it on their own, we, the people, have to make them. This is THE moment to rise up all around the world, especially in the countries most supportive of Israel (the US, the UK, Germany): Protest, call your representatives and demand a ceasefire and an end of arms deliveries to Israel.
We now have a legal case to back our demands: If Israel is, according to the ICJ, "plausibly" commiting genocide, then all of our governments are, according to the ICJ, "plausibly" guiltly of aiding in genocide. And we need to hold that over their heads and demand better. We need to do that right now and in huge numbers. Most politicians only care about themselves and saving their skin. We have to make them realize that they could be accused of aiding in genocide.
(As a German, I'm thinking of Germany here in particular: After South Africa's hearing, our government dismissed their case as having "no basis" - how are they going to keep saying that now that the ICJ officially thinks otherwise? Over the last months, people here have been arrested at protests for calling what's happening in Gaza a genocide. How are the police supposed to legally keep doing that now that the ICJ has officially deemed this accusation "plausible"? I used to be scared to use the word "genocide" at protests or write it on my protest signs - not anymore, have fun trying to arrest me for that when the ICJ literally has my back on this one 🖕🏻.)
So yeah - don't be defeatist about this, don't let Israel's narrative that they "won" (they didn't) take over. This might not be everything we wanted, but it's still a good result. Don't let what the court didn't say ("ceasefire"), distract you from the very important things that they did say. Let this be your motivation to get loud and active, especially if you live in any country that supports Israel. Put pressure on your governments to not be complicit in genocide, you now officially have the highest international court on your side.
