Anon with all due respect, one part of it it is people who have had a bad experience with komaeda or don't understand him, one part of it is people being homophobic, and the biggest part that's more common in this day and age is undermining Komahina due to shipping wars. Just because it's not a major thing there are still people who exist who think and say things against it. There are still people who misunderstand it or deny it for any of those reasons. I feel like you're denying the fact that these are collective issues that happen that result in the same conclusion that's misunderstanding the text. The text is something I care about dearly and I was asked about it. Komahina isn't going anywhere just as the people who perceive fiction differently aren't going anywhere. Whether or not you see these instances as a major issue that hinders the entirety of being able to enjoy the ship itself easily or not these people who misunderstand it do exist as long as the text does. That's just the nature of quite literally Everything SUBJECTIVE. As long as people exist who can interpret it in a way that misunderstands the text, have beliefs against the core aspects of the concept, and have interpretations that impact their views due to preferences there will be instances where it's frustrating for people like me. You can say it's a nothing issue all you want but that doesn't mean it will ever stop happening just as people like me won't ever stop loving it. You're coming into MY HOUSE and MOCKINGLY claiming that it really isn't such a big deal when this whole blog is about my special interests, of course I'm passionate about these instances that are frustrating. Not only that but I was ASKED about it, ASKED. I'm allowed to complain about people who frustrate me when they misunderstand or deny the text that I love regardless if it makes it physically impossible to enjoy it.

Just because I can enjoy my apples doesn't mean I can't complain about the people who are hating on my fruits, even if they can't force my fruit to rot I can still feel frustrated at them for not getting it like I do, denying it's existence, or simply hating on it. You're coming into my garden where the other gardeners are having a shared emotion of frustration. Like, that maybe a silly example but does that get the point across enough for you? You're coming into the territory of people who care and probably see it more because it's such a big thing in our lives. in which Matt Sturniolo announces his girlfriend of 6 months. Presley Evans, global popstar! Nick and Chris are shocked because they didnt even know. Shes on tour down the road from the triplets' tour. he has the camera footage that would be on the big screen of her stage. They decide to watch her tour on their screen and they figure out she wrote quite a few songs about him! they soon meet up at matts hotel room later on.

Matts pov:

"Next question, 'does anyone have girlfriends or in nicks case a boyfriend' Well i'm very much single" my brother said. Shit. I've had a secret girlfriend for 6 months now. We have talked about going public. She said shes okay with it. It's just difficult because shes a global superstar! It's been stressing me out. I think i'm just gonna say it. I'll tell everyone here.

Presley pov:

Im about to go on stage. I talked to matt last night about going public with our relationship. It's kind of getting exhausting having to sneak around. I've been a target for slut shaming because of how many guys ive dated, but i got into the industry when i was 15! It's not my fault. My managers say it's good for 'traction' or whatever. I sent matt the camera footage that would be on the big screen of the stage. Im performing in a stadium tonight, it's my all stadium tour. I just hope he tells his crowd, thats coincidentally, down the road from the stadium. He could connect his phone to the screen behind him and his brothers and show them my show, but i don't know if he will. I understand his anxiety thats going to come with going public, especially him now going to have paparazzi following him and his brothers everywhere, and me. He's gonna be more worried about me than he's ever been before because of his female fan base, they'll send me death threats and hate, more than i normally get. It's not like I'm not used to it though. I just hope he does whats right for himself and how he's feeling. I don't want him to feel pressured to tell everyone because I am ready to.

Matts pov:

"Nah i'm still single, sadly." chris said. I stayed silent. I could just spit it out. "Matt? we all know your single" chris teased. "actually.. I do have a girlfriend." i spat out. "WHAT?" nick said, he was as shocked as he should be. "yeah, we've been talking and we think we want to go public. She is a celebrity," i went on, "her name is Presley, Presley Evans." The crowd went wild. "SO ALL THOSE TIMES IVE SCREAMED HER SONGS IN THE CAR YOU DIDNT THINK TO TELL ME YOU WERE DATING HER?!" I laughed, "i guess not, I have camera footage thats om the big screen of her tour thats going on right now, i could put it on?" i suggested.

Presley pov:

"Presley! Time to go in 5!" one of my managers told me. "Okay! coming!" i say, Matt told me he'd text me if he told everyone, and he hasnt texted me. Im starting to lose hope when, Ding! i rush to check my phone. Twitter. Not matt.

holy shit. he did it. I laugh and squeal as i jump in my bedazzled heel boots. "Presley? what happened? are you okay?" my manager asks. "HE DID IT!! HE TOLD EVERYONE!!" i scream and jump around and laugh. "Presley, are you serious?!" my manager says, she seems angry? "whats wrong?" I walked away, I had on my white bedazzled heel-boots with my skirt that was tied on one side up, showing my whole thigh. the rest barley covered anything which was good because i had on a white bodysuit under. I had on a corset top. It was all white, the whole outfit. I looked amazing, i checked myself out as i walked past a mirror. I heard music start up, somebody came and handed me my mic as i walked toward the piece of my stage that moved up and down. I stood in the center preparing to go on.

Matt pov

I put on her show on the screen. I hear music start. Just in time. Everyone's eyes are glued to the screen. I look around, nobody recognized the opening notes.? I didn't either. As far as i know, theres no songs about me. As far as i know.

"Flamingo pink"

I really don't recognize this song, i feel terrible that i don't.

"sunrise boulevard, clink clink. being this young is art."

"who do you guys think this song is about?" nick asked. I know of all her exes. They all treated her like shit. I am determined to be different. I think this is a love song? she has some love songs, then breakup songs after because they put her through hell. I'd never do that, I will never.

This could be anything, we're both still very young. Shes 20, Im 19. I turn 20 soon.

Fucking beautiful, How do you fumble her? Shes like a goddess. "Maybe this songs about you lover boy" Chris says, jesus christ i hate that fucking nickname. "shut the fuck up chris! And i don't know, i don't know if she has songs about me" I say, I wish she had written a song about me.

she always refers to me as a gentleman, she always says everyone wants me too.. "HOLY SHIT!" I scream, i didn't mean to, i just did. "What?!" nick said, "THIS SONGS ABOUT ME!!" "BITCH WHAT?!" "oh my god" i say.

Presley pov

I open with "slut!", a song about matt. I never tell him any songs a write about him because, well, theres a lot. I don't wanna seem creepy, but constantly writing songs about one person could be taken that way. I hope he catches on though. I always say everyone wants him and I always call him a gentleman. "And if they call me a slut. You know it might be worth it for once. And if I'm gonna be drunk. Might as well be drunk in love" I finish the song. I don't know what matts thinking, i don't even know if he was watching, i put on my best show nonetheless, just in case he was. I didn't want to disappoint him. Should i tell the crowd the songs about him? Maybe i will. "Hello! and welcome to the "Slut!" tour!"

cliffhanger! Okay so i've had this idea for a long while now i've just never gone through with writing it but i finally have! This gonna be a series and it's gonna be like every song she performs is a different chapter! This chapter is "Slut!" and thats also the name of the album! you came home as usual, nothing seeming to be wrong but it was eerily quiet. you had a bad feeling, something that you always got whenever ghostface had attacked your friends

you were always on edge ever since the attacks but even more now, something was going to happen.

suddenly your phone rings, making you jump and grab a knife just in case.

you look at the caller id, it reads quinn bailey

you scrunch your brows in confusion, wasn't quinn dead?

you slowly pick it up and put the phone on speaker

"hello?"

"hello y/n"

you froze at the voice, ghostface decided that you'd be the next victim which was not great at all because barely anyone ever survived their attacks

"what do you want?" you ask gripping the knife and going to call the police with the landline

"don't you dare call the police or I'll rip ethan's head!" ghostface yelled

"wait what?"

your phone vibrates, indicating that you got a new text, you look at it, seeing a photo of ethan sitting on his bed studying. 

the photo looks like it was taken from far away but you could see ethan looking in the direction of it…thats strange

you quickly texted him to come over since ghostface was at your house

"why are you doing this? why can't you bastards find something to do other than running around and killing your friends?" you say trying to stall a bit

"oh but y/n it's fun, you wouldn’t understand it though because you're the little sweet, dumb girl who had the misfortune of falling for the shy and dorky nerd who might be ghostface"

ghostface doesn't say anything, you think you hear another voice from the phone. ethan then texts you back and said he was coming asap

since there was silence for another minute you're about to hang up until ghostface speaks again

you froze, "how did you know that?"

you turn around and scream at the sight of ghostface, for some reason you noticed the ghostface was around the same height as you which immediately made you think it was a girl

you started running but ghostface was right on your tail, getting close enough for them to stab you in the shoulder

you scream out at the pain, managing to catch ghostface off guard and slam a pan at their head

just as you reach the door ghostface grabs you and pulls you back, stabbing you in the stomach

you let out another blood curdling scream, the pain of it hurting you so badly. you see ghostface about to raise their knife again before you kick them in the crotch

that managed to keep them distracted and you hoped that it was a male since you knew it would hurt like hell if it was one

you ran to your room and locked the door, moving furniture against it to make sure ghostface couldn't get in

since there was a fire escape in your room, you headed towards there only to be grabbed and thrown against the floor

you clutched your wounds, which continued to bleed out, making you lose blood

ghostface looked down at your wounds and laughed, stabbing you once more

you scream out again and then just stop, causing ghostface to bend down and look at you

you watched them take out their phone and call someone, it took everything in you not to scream out and cry

just then ethan runs into the room looking at ghostface

"quinn what the fuck did you do to her?!" ethan said as he ran to your body, clutching you close to him

you felt him put your face to his chest, cradling you closely as ghostface or quinn laughs

"well ethan you were too distracted by her, it was clear you weren't going to kill her so i did for you"

"get out! just leave me alone quinn"

quinn laughs and leaves while ethan lets out a sob

"eth…im still here or somewhat" you laugh weakly and pull your face from his chest

it broke his heart to see you in a state like this, tears staining your cheeks and your body bloody

"we need to get you to a hospital quickly"

you give him a small kiss at the corner of his mouth, "no it's ok really, i'm going to die either way" 

"no you are going to survive baby" he said putting pressure on your wound

you giggle, feeling delirious at this point, "eth you have really pretty eyes"

you don’t have to answer this if you don’t want to but do you have any tips for learning Cree? also, have you ever run into the problem of learning Cree but your community speaking a different dialect of Cree then what you learned?

Just to get this out of the way so I dont have annoying moniyaws in my notes, Linguists go away & DNI.

You probably know that there's sub dialects even within sub dialects, & might change depending on location or community. My dad's Métis/Cree side of the family speaks Northern Cree (a subdialect of Plains Cree y dialect), vs. My mom's Cree side uses one that's more Southern, so conversations on either side of my family could be different, but I grew up more with my mom's Cree. One of the things I ran into a bit is that the previous dictionary I had used was a more Saskatchewan based dialect of plains Cree, but I'm from Alberta. So sometimes when I would try to use a Cree word, people at home wouldn't always understand me. But since starting school for it we've been using a dictionary that fits our local area. However, we have a saying about Cree, & that's "for every word in Cree, there are 4 different ways to say it". It shouldn't be TOO big of a problem, so don't beat yourself over it, dialectic differences happen even between fluent speakers. Just know that it's something you might run into. Try find dictionaries that use the same dialect as you & are close to your area.

I think this is one of the most important things, but focus on learning the Cree letters & their proper pronunciations first, this'll help you for getting words right. If you know the proper sound each individual letter makes, you'll know how to sound out things a little better in Cree, even if you don't know right off the bat. Also know that the macrons (the little "hats" or symbols you see over the vowels) changes the sound, & can change the entire meaning of the word, so pronounciation is important. For example, Sakahikan means "nail" or "spike". Sâkahikan means "lake". That "â" made all the difference, & they are pronounced a little differently, even if they are spelled virtually the same except for that a with the little hat. Remember the little hats.

Somewhat connected to the above, but if you want to learn syllabics thats cool too, but I don't think it's super necessary. But if you do choose to, learn them while you're studying the sounds.

If you look in the dictionary, you might see words labeled by letters like "VAI" or "VTA-2" or "VTI". Those are verb types, & the label is telling you what kind of verb it is. This is important for when you're going to conjugate that verb into a sentence, and tells you the context of that verb. There are a few verb types in Cree: the V stands for "Verb", a T means "transitive", I means "intransitive" and/or "inanimate", & the A stands for "animate". Usually the sequence goes (Verb)(whether it is transitive or not)(whether it's animate or inanimate). Don't fret over this too much & don't be daunted, you're just a beginner, but if you see those abbreviations, that's what they are. For now if you're just working on expanding your vocabulary a little more and not so much on the grammar, spelling rules, or conjugation, you can focus on that a little later. But I'll put a further explanation under the cut if you wanna know more on how it works & what it means.

Also try to find other people who speak Cree, fluent and not fluent, to practice with. You need to hear other people speak in order to get better. So to go back to the verb types, for example Vii means "inanimate intransitive" , and an example would be general observations about the weather, like yôtin ("it is windy"). There is nothing animate involved, and there is no second actor to the verb, it's just a fact. A VTI (transitive inanimate) example would be nipēhtēn, "I hear it": it's transitive because of the "it" (a second actor", there is something else involved), and it's also inanimate because the "it" would indicate it is something inanimate or not alive/living (as far as the hearer knows). If instead it was "I hear you" (aka, something living, thus making it animate & a VTA, a transitive animate verb), it would then become kipêhtâtin. A last example is VAI, animate intransitive, would be something like nimīcison ("I eat"). It's animate because the "I", the speaker, is a person who is alive saying it, but it's intransitive because there is nothing else involved, it's just the speaker generally declaring "I eat" (but not specifying anything that they are eating). Here is a really helpful, simple video about what transitive and intransitive verbs are, it helped me understand more about how they work. A lot of Cree dictionaries might also have an index at the beginning describing these verbs as well that you can look through, and Cree grammar books will go more in depth with them & how to use them when you're ready.

I think the fact that Caiti agreed George's story was more accurate is what upsets me. His story doesn't paint a story of SA and that she originally agreed to it and is now adding new details makes me question it. I also can't help but see how all my friends who experienced SA feel used and hurt by the way she went about it. I hope she gets help but it's hard.

I get this but if we know she didn't watch george's second statement, she probably didn't watch his first one either. I think she may have heard second hand (from a friend, twitter, etc) that he admitted to touching her, but because she didn't see the clip, she didn't know he never actually explicitly mentioned touching her breasts (and had only described waist touching and his hand moving upward) hence why she never made the clarification in her document. And since she was extremely vague with her wording in her first stream, most of us didn't realize there was breast touching either. She never agreed that it was "only waist touching thing" because she never described the touching in detail (aside from saying it was under her shirt and sexual) until her recent stream.

I think both george and caiti's previous statements alluded to breast touching looking back. george even said he didn't want to discuss it further out of respect for her privacy which to me implies it went farther than just a hand on her waist moving upwards. I don't think its fair of anyone to accuse her of lying about something as serious as this when it does line up with what was said in previous statements, it's just not a fair judgement to make.

I understand being upset at her vague wording and lack of specifics in the beginning, but him touching her breasts (in my opinion) without explicit consent is a LOT more severe to me than just a hand on the waist. And I think this new bit of information serves as a much better explanation for her reaction, intense emotions and the way she went about it and really puts everything into perspective for me. I still think making this public wasn't a good decision for reasons I've already went on about, and I wish she had been more specific about what happened in her original statement but I don't think she's trying to "change her story" or add new details. I think she may have genuinely thought that her vague comments in her original stream were enough to get the point across that he touched her chest, but it wasnt and it caused this miscommunication between her and the viewers.

I just feel sorry for her because a lot of people (myself included) were forming our opinions on this based on it being just waist touching, and ofc thats not sexual assault and so a lot of people (ex: commentary youtubers) were being quite harsh on her for misusing such heavy language over non sexual touching. But looking back I dont think she ever meant for us to think it was just waist touching. There was just miscommunication between her and the audience due to her vague language and george never explicitly mentioning it in his streams.

anyways my tldr is that i just think its really unfair to accuse her of being untruthful about the breast touching, especially considering the language used by both parties in previous statements. I'm not gonna tell you how to feel about it because thats up to your own judgement, and I'll be honest I dont even know how I feel about it, but I do think it's far more likely than not that it did happen and I wish we didnt just immediately jump to deny this or accuse her of lying. Just as we shouldn’t blindly believe and trust that every accusation is true, we also shouldn’t make the automatic assumption that someone is lying especially when there is reason to believe they are telling the truth.

A/N: thank you for this ask angel! I was excited to write this. haha i made it all angst and fluff, i hope you dont mind! I ended up doing this for Sasha and Hange, since i am deeply attached to both and like to pretend nothing happened to them! anyway, i hope you enjoy!

HANGE

      It was an expedition, that’s all. Hange stuck you next to Levi, giving you their big speech as always.

       “You stay next to Levi, and you listen to him. If you get hurt, you find him or me and don’t try to play hero, understand?” They fixed your gear, pressing a kiss to your forehead.  You nod your head, following your Captain.

       That’s how it always went, and no matter how many losses, you always survived. It was in your nature, and also Levi scolding you every five seconds, not wanting to get yelled at by Hange. Nothing ever went wrong. 

        That was until today's expedition, where an abnormal came running towards your squad, snatching up a recruit. Their haunting screams reached your ears. Your neck snapped, looking up at the poor kid. She was so young, waving her blade around, deafening shrieks leaving her raw throat. 

          You couldn’t let her die. You couldn’t hand the parents her uniform with an apology. You were a leader, not someone who let their comrades get slaughtered. You stood up on your horse, preparing your gear. 

      “Get down! What the hell do you think you’re doing?” Levi yelled from beside you. “Watch the rest, I'll be back!” You soar in the air, holding your blades in a tight grip. The titan opened its mouth, bringing the young cadet towards it. You slice its jaw open, before going for the nape. The titan fell to its knees, dropping the girl. 

     You grab her mid-air, landing on a nearby tree. The girl gripped onto your cape, apologies spilling from her mouth. “Hey, are you hurt?” You push her hair back, looking at her up and down. “No! I’m so sorry, I didn’t mean to! I freaked out!” She cried into your chest. “It’s okay, as long as you’re not hurt, it’s okay. You ride with me, okay?” You grab her waist, flying through the trees to find your squad. 

        You spot them, as soon as you feel the trees shaking. “Fuck.” You look behind you. Another abnormal. “You stick with Levi, and I'll be back soon.” You fly down, setting the girl down. She gripped the reins, watching you leave. Her face was twisted with fear, she was afraid that you would get hurt. 

      You fly past the titan, cutting it from its legs up. Your blades tore through its nape, falling down with a roar. You stand on top of its steaming body, looking around for any more titans. Silence. You fly through the trees once again, finally sticking with another person's squad, warning them of the two titans you took down.

         “Hey, Cadet.” You walk through the doors. The young girl’s face lit up, tears brimming her eyes.

        “You’re alive! Thank you for saving me!” She stood up, staggering towards you. “Is your leg ok?” Before she could answer, the doctor handed her crutches. “Her leg twisted wrong.” “I swear I didn't feel it until after.” She frowned. “S’okay, as long as you're alive.” You sigh, leaning against the medical bed. 

       “Section Commander, Hange is looking for you!” A young recruit came in, saluting to you. “Oh, where are they?” You walk towards them, eyebrows furrowed. “Follow me, Miss!” They turn around. You could tell they were shaken up by something. 

       You two approached the stables, where there was a small argument between two people. It was Levi and Hange. “She’ll be back soon.” Levi muttered. “You said you would watch over her!” Hange waved their hands around. “And leave the rest behind? Hange, they made that decision themselves and they are strong enough to come back.” “They’ve been missing four hours!” Hange pressed their hands against their ears, chest heaving up and down.

        “Hange?” You called from behind the Cadet. Hange’s neck snapped towards your direction, worried face smoothing out. “Oh my god.”  They rushed towards you, arms bringing you into a crushing hug. You wrapped your arms around them, laughing. 

       “Don’t ever pull that shit again, ever.” Hange growled in your ear, lips pressing against your neck to where your pulse is. “You scared me.” Hange had one arm around your neck, the other running their fingers through the roots of your hair. “I didn’t want her to die, she was so young and scared.” You mutter. 

      “And that’s worth more than you? I’m sorry, but I need you more than I need anyone else. No one is worth more than you, so for you to act reckless and take care of it instead of letting Levi was just stupid of you. I’m proud of you, but do you know what you would have done to me if you died?” 

       Hange held your face in between their hands, making you look straight into their brown eyes. “I love you, and you are all I have left. Please, don't ever leave me.” Hange whispered. “I love you, too. I just had to save her, Hange.” You push their hair back, eyes softening. “But you are all of me, and I cannot lose you. So please, promise me you wont ever put yourself in danger again.” Hange pleaded. “Okay.” You leaned into their chest, hugging them again. “Remind me to keep yelling at Levi after this.” Hange slipped their hand in yours, walking back to the group.

Sasha approached Connie and Jean, eyes brimming with tears and fingers in her mouth, biting her nails.

“Any luck?” Jean asked her. “N-no. Eren said she was lost when the abnormal scattered their group. Oh, what if she got eaten?” Sasha leaned against the boxes filled with artillery. “Miche’s squad is out there gathering people, maybe she’ll come up. Don’t worry, Sasha.” Connie rubbed her back, eyeing Jean for help. They weren't the best at comforting. “They've been gone for a while now, I doubt they will find her. Stupid abnormal.” She laid her head down, quiet sniffles coming from her.

That's when Miche showed up, followed by a bunch of injured people. In his arms was none other than the person Sasha needed to see. You. Your face was scratched up and you had a wound around your waist area. Your eyes were closed, head leaned against Miche’s chest. “Psst, Sasha,” Connie nudged her. “Stop.” Sasha cried, quiet whimpers leaving her mouth. “I think I found her.” Connie poked her again. Sashas head snapped up, wiping her blurry eyes. She spotted you, a smile growing by the second.

Miche set you down by the medics, explaining your injuries. “Is she ok?” Sasha tried to get past Miche as the medics took you away. Jean and Connie followed Sasha, concerned on their faces. Miche reached an arm out to keep Sasha from running after you. “She's unconscious, but she's breathing. You will be notified when you are allowed to see her.” Miche patted her shoulder before walking away. The boys left to get food as Sasha sat outside your room, slowly sleeping against the door frame.

“Miss Braus. She's ready for you.” The nurse peeked her head out, waving Sasha in. She stood up quickly, rubbing the sleep from her eyes.

You laid on the bed, arm bandaged and sleepy eyes meeting hers. “Hi, baby!” Sasha ran towards you, tackling you in a hug. “Sash…ribs. Ow.” You flinch. “Oh, I'm so sorry! I didn’t mean to!” She jumped back. “It's okay, you didn't know.” You tried to give her a spot, but the bed was small. Sasha sat by your legs, One hand holding yours, the other rubbing up and down your leg. “How bad are you hurt?” Her eyebrows furrowed. 

“Broken shoulder, broken ribcage and concussion. So I'm going to be out for a bit.” You sigh. “I'm sorry, I should have been there to watch over you.” Sasha played with your fingers, frowning. “No, the titan came to us. You did nothing wrong.” You smile at her. She tenderly touched your cheek, tracing over the red scratches. “I was worried sick. Jean and Connie went to go look for you while I checked in with every person I knew. I thought I lost you.” Sasha leaned her head into your hand. 

“I cannot lose you.” Sasha pressed her lips against your wrist, feeling your pulse. “I should have been more careful.” You opened your hand, resting it against Sasha’s soft face. “It's fine, you are here now, but next time you have to be sharp, ok? I’m gonna ask if you can be in my squad. I just can't think when you're not with me.” Sasha went back to rubbing your leg. 

“Is everyone else okay?” You tilt your head to rest on the pillows. “Yeah, you were the only one missing out of us. I almost lost it.” “I can't lose you either.” “You won't. We stay and we don't ever leave each other.” Sasha leaned in, placing a kiss on your lips. “I'm hungry.” She leaned back, before pressing a kiss to your lips. “I heard they serve stuffed potatoes.” Sasha smiled, before standing up. “I’ll be back, with food. I love you. Stay here.” “Be quick.” You mutter, watching her leave with a smile on your face.

these are some things i liked and disliked about the book, and it has spoilers (naturally?), so beware

not gonna say i absolutely adored the way R&M managed solangelo's relationship but didnt completely despise it either

i wouldnt say Will was out of character bc... he didnt have much of a character to be out from before tsats? i just didnt really love that "i gotta fix nico" thing rick gave to him, but that got settled by the end so i really wont complain much about it

i also wouldnt compare solangelo to percabeth neither to praise or criticize it bc it's not like i think percabeth's dynamic is flawless and perfect either 🤷🏻‍♀️

since hoo i've got a soft spot for nico finding comfort in the darkness of the underworld, so reading nico seeing his father's realm as his home again gave me a cozy feeling every single time <3

No, I mean, this is an interesting topic that I think we should 100% get into to "warm up" for the tour. I bet we'll have even more to say once we start getting content from the first new shows in September. (omg not too far away now aaaahhhh), so everyone feel free to chime in, but basically, here is how I think about it ( this is probs gonna be long. apologies in advance. im gonna add a "keep reading" so i dont destroy y'all feeds).

The first thing we need to remember is that Matty's "Truman Black" persona pre-dates the ATVB tour. He's always been "Truman Black." He's always been a jokester, a meme lord, a bit chaotic, a bit sexy, a pastiche or caricature of himself.

The question, then, is why? Why does he do this?

For several reasons. And he's been nothing but honest with us about them.

From as early on as 23 years old, when ST first started blowing up and the boys cultivated a following, Matty became acutely aware of the spotlight and the way that fans idealized and idolized him. Sexually desired him, saw him as this rockstar figure. And it made him uncomfortable because, well, no real human being could live up to such a fantasy, right? That's really what the song "Love Me" is about. He experienced this during album 1 and instantly wrote about it for album 2. like thats how strongly he felt it. He's more eloquent about it than I can ever be, so I'm going to link you to his explanation of "Love Me."

so, as he's pointing out in his explanation, he plays this kinda ridiculous character to "subvert" expectations. right? even in the mv, he has cardboard cut outs of sex symbols and heart throbs like Harry Styles etc. and he takes his shirt off and stands next to them and makes out with them and all that. Usually, the normal rockstar-fan relationship is that we project our fantasy upon the rockstar and the rockstar accepts it obligingly. But Matty's going "well this is really kinda silly, and it makes me feel sooo disconnected from myself if i turn into this person everyone thinks i am, so what am i gonna do? oh I'll just lean into the silliness." so if he can't do the "fake authenticity" of the cliched rockstar, hes gonna do a very authentic fakeness of being loud, and silly goofy funny messy larger than life, etc.

He explains it here (I've cued it up to the right moment in the video). He's right, if you're a stranger and you know nothing about him and you see him behaving in a Truman-black-esque way, you'd think "wow what an arrogant piece of shit this dude is." BUT if you realize that he's like "i KNOW that you all think of me this way. And YOU (the fans) know that I know that you think that way." we become in on the joke.

You know what im gonna say here. Postmodernism. LMAO. No, but for real. Postmodern art naturally has this "meta" habit. It's art that knows itself as art. It's aware that it's not real. Like movies that are constantly referring to themselves as movies. breaking the experience of illusion for you by constantly reminding you that what you are watching has been filmed and edited. it's not real life. Thats what Matty does with the "rockstar persona" constantly reminding you "it's not real. im just a character made up in all our heads. I'm actually a normal human being but my job is kinda fuckin mental."

So, I think those 4 points, from VERRRYYY early in Matty's career are the genesis of Truman Black. Thats what "Truman Black" is based on.

You could ask, well, if Matty has been this way from the very beginning how come it's such a problem now? how come this whole thing is a new issue??

I think its the perfect storm of this year.

The ATVB show was designed to push the blurry lines between Matty Healy/ Truman Black to their very limits cuz they added extra layers of meta-theatricality to an already meta situation haha. He plays himself in the couch scene, and the raw meat scene, but he's also kind of playing a symbolic version of himself that's supposed to apply to a lot of straight men, but then the show is also about the lines between his personal and his public lives.

Then he goes and does the Truman Black rockstar shit in the second half of the show. So, the tour really could've been called "Matty Healy: At His Very Truman Black-esque" and it would have been accurate. Like he took this concept and stretched it to see how far it could take him.

Then of course you have the podcast thing, the taylor swift thing, the twitter cancelation cycles, etc etc etc.

There were so many new eyes on him. and so much out of context (remember, meta-theatricality needs context. needs the audience to be in on the joke. we have to know 'oh hes making fun of himself being a rockstar') cuz if we don't have the context he really comes off as a guy who's in love with himself and his rockstar status haha.

Now that alllll of this background is out of the way, lets discuss the questions that you've brought up.

Is he Matty or is he Truman Black?

I think lots of people didn't notice that when he threw out the lab coat that was labeled "truman black" in the video, he wasn't serious. he instantly starts doing the robot dance, flipping the camera off with his finger, acting disruptive by riding the trolley thingy. All Truman Black behavior: mischief, breaking rules, etc. so it was a "meta" joke. he tossed the character then acted like the character. a contradiction. ironic. Truman Black's never been gone! he and Matty are intertwined necessarily. you can't separate one from the other.

Is he gonna be acting at all in S...ATVB?

Yes. He will. He's working with Brad Troemel whose sense of humor is very close to Matty's and who loves irony and postmodernism.

Does he use Truman Black to "hide from difficult situations" or to "run from his emotions" or whatever that tweet was saying? no. He uses it to deliver social critique. About masculinity being ridiculous, about our relationship to artists and the fantasy of perfection in Rockstar cliches, about performative wokeness.

Those are the very same beliefs that Matty Healy believes in. hes always criticizing these things in interviews and speeches and stuff. So, no, hes not hiding behind the character to disassociate he IS the same guy, just a slightly less dramatized and exaggerated version.Thats why he doesn't completely turn it on or off at any time. Thats why it's not that he was willing to stop it for a relationship and then start it again when it didn't work out. Thats not how Matty operates at allll.

He didn't throw out his belief that performative wokeness is harmful and stupid, he didn't throw out his belief that leftist masculinity is confusing, he didn't change who he is at his very core just to be mr nice guy, or to be sincere, or to get his dick sucked off by Taylor Swift, or whatever these people think is the reason. He's always been this way; he very likely will always be this way. Thats just how he makes art and how he thinks about the world.

He's always BEEN open to embracing emotions and being sincere. "I love you, don't you mind?" "we're only human we're just like you man" "I'll quote on the road like a twat," "im petrified of being alone, its pathetic," "im just pissed off because you pied me off after your show," "you pick a fight and i'll define it" "i said its cool i was messing but its true," "pretend that i know what it is (i wasn't listening)" "sorry that I quite like seeing myself on the news. im sorry that im someone that i wish i could change, but ive always been the same."

Well, just in case, I'll give 'em some defense tips)

Well, he's an old man. Grumpiness is part of his nature. But if he gets too mean like say he doesn't want to get you another round of ice cream or doesn't want to play tea party...Here are all of Crane's weak spots. He's got a crippled leg so strike at the back of his left knee to knock him down. And make sure to stitch up his mouth if he's saying anything stupid. Like a zipper mouth sorta thing. Also he hates loud music so whatever you got on your phone, blast it. Also, throw him off a bridge for me.

Cheerilee: Wont that kill him?

Red Hood: Nah, dont worry, he's a scarecrow. He cant feel any pain. Straw body, remember?

Scootaloo: I knew he was a magic scarecrow!

Red Hood: Exactly! So whenever he pisses you guys off, just (under breath) Oh crap, I shouldnt sworn in front of them

Thank you for answering first of all :) (also glad it wasn't a dumb question, one win at a time🫡). And tbh I really didn't have any answer of yours in mind, I just wanted an answer for it in general since it's really been plaguing my mind since that chapter; So that answer is MORE than enough. And also memory failure very much makes sense, I myself am a very forgetful person too, so like😭 (maybe I'm also just a little bit of a sappy person and thats why I wanted to know and thought: maaaybe?).

Sometimes I forget that people in stories don't have the pleasure of rereading and rereading and rereading their own stories till their last breath, which I obviously can do, so of course I'll remember it when they dont.

Though on THAT topic and please excuse me if that is one question/topic too much, I would very much understand since I can be a bit much with stuff I fixate on; but since I've read "The crystal cave" the first time I looked out for the stuff you implied might happen in the future. One of which was the sword scene (help I don't know what else to call it). At first I thought that scene happened in "The Changeling" when Merlin gave Arthur his sword and they have the talk about destiny and how it makes you feel like you don't have any choice etc, but then "The Sorcerers truth" came out and on god you made me doubt all that because that ALSO seemed to fit "the crystal caves" description (if not more than the scene from The changeling). The one thing I know is that I myself knew logically Merlin wouldn't really remember that since it was just snippets he saw, I've just been looking out for it so I kind of jumped at "The Sorcerers Truth's" description with that sword and magic conparison. I was very unsure if that would still later be explained or not (since I also caught the cloak scene you wrote in of Arthur still having it from "Under false presences") I really just wanted to know if I had the right idea here or not, I'd very much understand if it wasn't possible to answer that, though.

anyways to cut it short I really just wanted to say how much I appreciate your story and thank you for writing it since it's been one of, if not my favorite ever since (if that hasn't been made clear yet) and that I really rarely spent any time not thinking about it (kinda bad if you have other stuff to do but oh well). I hope it wasn't too much of anything and also coherent enough to understand. But I couldn't really not say it, since it's just non stop on my mind for what feels like an eternity now and as of now I couldn't really ever talk about it, and in all honesty I could probably spent days talking about it.

yeah i love to hint sometimes at the fact that unlike us, merlin and arthur don't have the ease of being able to reread their own lives, and even though it's obviously a lot of words and a lot to keep track of even for readers, for them entire years full of memories and experiences are passing, some things are bound to slip through the cracks !!!

to answer your question (and truly there are never too many questions i love talking about oafk, it's my baby) yeah you're absolutely right merlin doesn't remember those snippets of visions at all, they were much more for the reader - and the sword scene aligns with the one in 'the sorcerer's truth' !!! you've 100% got the right idea there
