Transcript: I got into undertale when I was 12-13, but I didn't actually watch a playthrough FOR A WHILE because I was bombarded with so many spoilers that I didnt see the point because I thought I knew the story well enough not to, which in some ways I kinda did (I was a big alphyne shipper I think I still have drawings of their fankid that I designed and made for this little comic I drew with pen and paper, and this was before I actually watched a playthrough (I was really happy when I finally watched a playthrough and realised "oh, they're canon canon")
But one of the things I got wrong is that for a short while I thought mettaton was a girl, because pink, but I have this distinct memory of being at the top of my bunk bed watching a comic dub and hearing him being reffered to as a guy, and being a bit disappointed, because I was a girl (at the time) and therefore if he was a guy I couldn't be pretty the way he is pretty
(This was also the time when I watched a lot of speed paints, which is how I stumbled upon vizipop angel dust speed paints, and while I'm not a hazbin fan (never seen the show and not interested) I'd say that both angel dust and mettaton contributed in making me question certain things about myself)
Also I was around for the sans fangirl craze, but I wasn't part of it nor I was a hater of it, I remember just seeing the whole thing go down while sitting on the couch and going "I guess I cam see why other people would have crushes on him but like... he's depressed, I'm depressed, it just wouldn't work out" which was certainly a part of it, but i think my confusion surrounding people having crushes was just my aromanticism showing.
(SORRY FOR PUTTING ALL OF MY CHILDHOOD EXPERIENCES IN THE UT FANDOM HERE, I JUST NEVER HAD THE CHANCE TO TALK ABOUT THEM BEFORE SO IM PUTTING THEM ALL HERE)
Also, while I understand that the fic Flowey Is Not A Good Life Coach has a lot of faults, especially being *very* out of character in many ways, I remember as a kid listening to the pod fic on YouTube (most of my fic reading as a kid was just me searching for podfics on youtube) while I was suppoused to be asleep and the theme of a character having to keep the fact that they're being abused a secret just hit me really hard at the time due to personal circumstances, so hard that it stuck with me for years
I do understand people's annoyance at it being treated like THE papyrus fic, tho.
Anyway, if anyone has good recommendations for papyrus centric long ( and i mean LONG) fics, please do tell me
Also I fidnt like soriel but thats because people were weird and heterosexual about it, also it reminded me of the way people were weird and heterosexual about fluttercord, but I have seen the error of my ways, I like soriel now (but only if both of them are somewhere on the ace spectrum and if sans is still friendly with asgore because sans going "Sorry about your ex-wife, tbf she is a nice ex-wife" to asgore is too funny to me)
Also, I was a chara defender, and I was one of the people who didn't believe kris was evil back during chapter 1 and im still smug about being right
Remember when for a brief few hours we thought ralsei was a spider? I miss spider ralsei.
Aslo I was around for the ralsei gender debate started by game theory misgendering him and it was not fun :/
and finally
susie deltarune is the best girl to ever girl and I love her, I hope she eats a rubber tire, also she has PICA (<- says guy who had PICA during early childhood)

Thought Week: Asgore
Ooh, boy! Asgore, huh? It's really telling that a character with so little screen time compared to the others is much more popular than some of them. Well, better get into it.
(I'm sure you know the drill by now! If you have anything to say about Asgore, please reblog and write it down! I'd love to read them!)
First Impressions
The first time I think I heard of Asgore was in an Undertale playthrough? I can't exactly remember, but I definitely didn't see him in comic dubs because back then THERE WERE BARELY ANY WITH HIM IN IT! Jeebus! At least he's getting some focus now, but good gracious!
At first, I just saw him as a tragedy, but there wasn't really much for him to me. I guess I was busy hyperfixating on Papyrus because my early memories in the fandom with Asgore are just very blurry. He just wasn't really that interesting to me, I suppose. At least now, I figured it out, and now I'm like, "Oh, crap." He's just slightly more interesting to me now. Eh.
My Impressions Now
This poor man, honestly. He just wants his life back. His life got ruined by one stupid plan and one stupid decision that he made in a fit of rage over humans killing his kids. Which is honestly decently reasonable. Obviously, he wasn't reasonable in that moment, but if he could go back and do things differently, he would in a heartbeat. He's a kindhearted softie who put himself in a precarious position because of his grief. And that's just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Asgore's woes!
How about Toriel? This guy lost his only support system besides Gerson and when he finally sees her again, he just gets outright rejected, like DUDE! I'll cover my thoughts on her on Sunday, so I won't go into it right now, but poor Asgore, man! Having his wife around and helping each other through their grief would've been VERY beneficial to them! Could you imagine two vilomahs helping each other out and working together on human policies that could have benefitted everyone and helped them accept their loss? But then again, if it weren't for that, parts of the Undertale story wouldn't have happened, so I guess we're stuck with this timeline! Sorry, Flowey! You couldn't reset this one.
Oh, and it just keeps going! Remember Rudy? Asgore's "best friend" from a long time ago? I'm not talking about the Deltarune version, I'm talking about the Undertale version of Rudy that sadly passed away. At least from what I could tell, he lived a long and happy life, but it still hurts. Imagine being a boss monster. An IMMORTAL boss monster that stays the same age until you have a child. So for all that time Asgore didn't have a child, he had to watch as his "best friend" grew old and fell down.

GODDAMN IT, TOBY, COULD YOU GIVE THIS POOR MAN A BREAK??? Thank you.
The thing is, Asgore is by far the strongest monster in the Underground... besides Toriel (she was holding back). He's killed six humans and we all know how strong they are compared to monsters. Like no human soul was ever taken in the war, and he singlehandedly killed SIX of them. And we don't even know if all of them were actually kids or not, or if they were fighting back, or... Wait, the WAR!!! He was in the intro, wasn't he?!

Look, there he is! Unless that's his dad or something, which isn't actually a bad theory when you think about it.
GIVE. THIS MAN. A BREAK.
He can't even keep a marriage in Deltarune. Just make something go right for him, please.
Anyway, where was I? Oh yeah! The strongest monster in the underground! And by the time he fights you, he's spent. He doesn't want to go through with the war. That's why he's hiding. That's why he's holding back. I think we all know that by now. Dude was just waiting to take himself out of the picture, so to speak. It's understandable to be depressed when your life is nothing but tragedy after tragedy after tragedy. But let's move on to his actual personality.
Because Asgore... is a dork. He's just as dorky as the rest of the cast, and it's adorable! This big guy stumbles through life with the charming unawareness of modern things, like anime, ("What is an... anime?") and he's so clumsy he fell in a fishing hole during a game of ice hockey!

(Here is the original video)
He gives you tight hugs. He's a botany nerd. He dresses up as Santa for the locals. He is the QUINTESSENTIAL Gentle Giant. He just deserves better, that's all.
A King, Not A Deity
Conclusion
It's intriguing to me how literally the entirety of monsterkind treats him like he's gonna bring salvation to them like some god. As if it was a guarantee. Well, apart from Toriel, of course, but she knew him on a very deep level, so of course she's not gonna see him as some sort of "chosen one." And that's not even covering her disdain for him.
I get that Asgore is the monsters' only hope, though. That's a huge contributing factor in their deitification of him. And in turn, it just pressures Asgore to kill the humans even more, which sends him into an even bigger depression, but also, he doesn't want to call off the war so the monsters could still have hope. It's a vicious cycle!
No hate towards him, but I wish Asgore would grow a backbone sometimes. Just saying. You're the KING, man! Not a god! A KING. And the monsters are expecting you to become their god, but you don't want to! And... Gah, monster politics are complicated!
The Narrative
Despite his very little screen time, Asgore is one of the most important characters in the story. A kind king driven to despair after losing the thing he loves the most - his family. The reason the policy exists. The monster you're gonna have to kill in order to escape the underground.
It sort of sucks that he dies in every route besides the best one. Like, I get why that has to happen, but come on, man. He deserves better.
Honestly, Asgore? He's not the most remarkable character in the game to me. I wish he got more screen time, at least. The poor guy needs a freaking break from everything. It doesn't make him a bad character, in fact, he's a really well-written, intriguing one. He's just not my favourite.
But if there's anyone out there whose favourite character IS Asgore, please give a shout in the notes and tell me what you think of him! Is there anything I missed?

I was looking back at your past Gaster content from your old account (specifically the pieces where he’s interacting with other Narrators from other games), and I feel that the Narrator from Slay the Princess would be a natural addition to the gang.
In fact, I’d argue he’s a lot like Gaster in many ways.
I'm so sorry it took me so long to get to this! I wanted to give this ask the attention it deserves but i've been super busy- then had a few weeks off and decided to relax- but i'm doing it now!!
First of all, i've known about slay the princess for a while now, but because it's such a long game (and it seemed fascinating so i wanted to sit down and appreciate it) i didn't have the chance to watch a playthrough until recently (this ask was what pushed me to finally do it, so thank you!)
This game is seriously fascinating- its genre subversion pushed to the max and i seriously enjoyed every part and route- to avoid spoiling the game for anyone i'll continue after the cut :’))
Idk if i agree with the stp narrator being similar to gaster- we don't know gaster yet!
The narrator barricades the world, lies to us, hides the truth just so we’ll continue on with an impossible mission- one that he deep down knew was an unwinnable battle. The narrator was a delusional mortal man who wanted to free the world of the inevitable pain that comes with life- those are a lot assumptions placed on my peepaw
I'm not saying that there's no way he’s at all similar to him, he might be! That's the thing about not knowing who he is or what his plan and goal are yet! But so far, to me, Gaster seems like a nice and caring powerful being who loves watching us do what we want in his world. He might've been the one to make it so our choices don't matter, and if he was then yeah they're kinda similar! But idk. We don't know yet :’]]
But if i misinterpreted this and you're talking about vibes then yeah of course sdshdjs,,, romance repulsed gaster for the win he’s british too they're twins separated at birth. Although the narrator lacks gasters innate silliness imo
Also my favourite voices were the cheated, the smitten, and above all, the paranoid :’DD definitely didn't start whisper chanting 'heart, lungs, liver, nerves' as a vocal stim. (\sarcasm, totally did) and my favourite princesses were all of them
Anyway, some doodles cus i miss him hehe
The story and vibe of Slay The Princess is so gorey and horrific compared to their games. They'd be scared i think lol (this is gaster and The Narrator from The stanley parable btw)
(Also i feel the need to mention that i DON'T believe gaster is the narrator in Undertale/Deltarune, i just like drawing him interacting with other godly and omnipresent silly beings in media i like lol)
#gaster#the stanley parable#slay the princess#my art#the adventure line connecting through the images was a happy accident thats so cool shjdjfkf#also i don't interrupt the Stanley parable narrator as the adventure line#its just there :] its having fun following the narrator through worlds :]#awesome people being nice#i JUST realized i posted this on 4/27. Stanley day. happy birthday Stanley <3

Right so I've been sick in bed all day; and as some of you may know, outside of my business, as in when you're not thinking of the person who runs this shop as a mippy itty bitty brand entity, I'm kind of a Massive Non-traditional Horror Fan? So I finally watched a playthrough oh and picked around the files of Indigo Park Chapter One. And this post will very much contain spoilers for that as I pick it apart in the same way I suck the marrow out of the bones of a roast chicken; but the tldr is that:
1- I feel like game theory is... *mostly* wrong, but they always are. Sensationalist and nuts, for views and in turn, money
2- UNIQUEGEESE IF YOU EVER NEED A MERCH ARTIST *PLEASE* HIT ME UP MY SCHEDULE IS SO WIDE OPEN AND THIS IS A PROJECT I WOULD KILL AND DIE TO WORK ON,,,
3- Rambley Raccoon scratches the same itch in my brain as Ralsei Deltarune, which if you Additionally know anything about me or my shop, you'd know that means that he is My Son Who Can Do Very Little Wrong and I Will Commit Attrocities for Him
So, we Know Isaac Indigo, if he's meant to be a direct parallel of Walt Disney Himself- Must be an absolute Stark-Raving Lunatic. Anyone who likes Disney beyond its brainwashing mouse-eared nonsense knows this. and You CAN in fact, like Disney's body of work and know the guy was just as insane as John Harvey Kellogg.
So i am. Thinking there may be some stuff that alludes to the "Disney wanted to live forever"/"Cryogenically Frozen Head" Theory? It's clear that he's picking animals that are easy to obtain and raise from a very early age, if you happen to be a deranged madman with a ton of extra cash and a clear kind of unethical science-experiment hell center under your theme park. In addition to blood, we do see sparks fly off of Mollie in that decapitation cutscene, so. It very well may be a combination of organic being and cybernetic nonsense, as well as the good ol "placing everyone you love into your mascots/ai so they can live forever" thing (Eat your heart out, GLaDOS!) the creator did say that they were a MASSIVE fan of Shipwrecked64 (aka, the game I affectionately call "Shit-rekt-my-pants, 64 times." I would have appreciated it more if the shock and surprise horror elements werent so heavy-handed. the giovanni goose death scene lives in my nightmares rent free, not inclusive of how much havoc that game's jumpscare-only layers wreaked on my heart condition.) so it would not surprise me that these mascots are human and animal experimentation gone so wildly wrong it warrants a horror title. I definitely CAN appreciate that these critters are actually slightly cutesy and not... gross 80s rubber mask mascot being piloted by a morbidly deformed and genetically altered human, but also I can Appreciate if that's the angle and its just more palpable to the viewer as a sort of fursuit thing... ah, but that's always the surprise/plot of mascot horror-- "what the fuck is wrong with them and why do they act Like That." Rambley is Very Obviously Not The Villain, he comes across more like Ricky from My Friendly Neighborhood. And also he also comes across like a more verbally comprehensible Donald Duck who actually DID take the spotlight over Mickey Mouse, or in our case, Lloyd. He really DOES just want all his pals okay and to not be forgotten about. Also im going to put him in the pear wiggler. Next chapter is DEFINITELY going to focus on the Submechanophobia elements, no doubt. Really love the lil eeyore guy. I think Salem will also get a chapter, but it's really really clear that they're a kind of "bug in the code" here. For whatever reason, Rambley can't form a functional statement about them, and all their traces either disappear or blow up. Its clear the other mascots do not want them there, re: why their shit's just annihilated.. I can imagine that the other mascots aren't okay with humans (their first instinct is to run and hide, not attack. to approach first with curiousity and THEN murderous intent.) Its really clear to me that lloyd is driven off NOT by some noise your cuff makes, but by Mollie mimicking some high-pitched noise she once heard to make Lloyd get away. The other theory im entertaining is that these mascots are Mostly Harmless and the park is Not Actually Abandoned, but something inside them (like an AI chip) is going nutso and telling them to kill and maim. either way Salem isn't the bad guy either, outside of the cartoons themselves, and mioght be something like a "we don't talk about Failures to the Process" kind of thing. I'm betting money that the True Bad Guy is Indigo's Lunatic Hubris and Corporate cash giving him access to tech levels of a Mad scientist. it's said that Ed's full name is a reference to something extremely niche, and I'm going to be so real its probably a reference to some yet unknown by me Theme Park Urban Explorers thing or, my funniest and favorite theory I have ever come up with, its a Reference to Crashbox's Eddie Bull. God I hope its a Reference to Eddie Bull.

Thinking of Making A Ralsei Psychology Analysis Later This Summer... (SPOILER WARNING!!!)
I have know idea if I'll jam everything into a big blog post or finally use my YouTube, but after a good couple of years of being unable to find my favorite Deltarune character, after chapters 3 and 4, I'd say the Prince From the Dark, the fluffy boy with shitty eyesight if you will, has grown on me a bit...
At first I wasn't that in too him. I hated how he was so dismissive about the implications of the SPAMTON NEO fight, and noticed how Kris seemed to be uncomfortable around Ralsei too based off of some dialogue options. After chapter 4 (and 3 as well) where we see how Ralsei sees himself as more of an "it" due to being a darkner despite other darkners not really seeming to care of think much of it, and learning that Ralsei unwillingly knows how Deltarune and the Fun Gang will end, I started to see him in a new, more depressing (what we know of his backstory wise) yet slightly more positive (intentions wise) light.
I first played Deltarune chapters 3 and 4 with my brain turned off a bit though due to overwhelming excitement of the new chapters being out in general, but I'm replaying through 3 and 4 more attentively now (and maybe replay 1 and 2; or just watch a playthrough to not mess up my save files...) to analyze his mental state a bit. I am in NO WAY a professional in psychology, but it's a hobby of mine to learn about how the mind works and want to try applying that to Ralsei just to see if I get anywhere with it lore-wise (e.x. trying to figure out his past, what item he could be in the light world, his ties with Asriel, how long he's been a darkner, connecting some of my analysis to existing theories, etc.)

are u in any fandoms? what are ur interests besides whump? u don’t have to answer i’m just curious!!
someone’s asking me about my interests i can’t NOT answer
this got a bit long tho so i’m putting it under the read more for people who don’t care/are only here for the whump
OKOK. so i’m kinda in the starkid/nerdy prudes must die fandom rn but i know for a fact if i finished adventure time and started watching fiona and cake, that would quite literally become my entire personality for the next 3 months because simon and prismo (and marceline and princess bubblegum and all my other favorite characters) make me insane. but i haven’t done that because well. i’ve gotta write tllr yknow..
anyway, my absolute most favorite pieces of media of all time are undertale and deltarune guys. i cant put in words how much those games mean to me holy shit. as i’m writing this i’m sitting next to my jevil and sans and spamton plushie and they are saying hi. anywayyy yeah i was in the deltarune fandom for a bit it was fun. spamton is silly fucked up creature. jevil is my all time favorite tho
AND THE MAGNUS ARCHIVES… my favorite thing ever fr. y’all. LISTEN TO TMA SERIOUSLY YOU’LL PROBABLY LIKE IT!! it’s a horror podcast and it’s seriously the best fuckinf thing ever it’s so amazing seriously. it’s a bit hard to get into at first because season 1 is less story driven BUT HOLY SHIT. AHHHH ITS SO FUCKING GOOD. jon is one of my favorite blorbos ever and so is michael because he’s a silly distortion guy. just trust me and listen to TMA it will actually change your life.
also i love the amazing world of gumball so fucking much. i wasn’t allowed to watch cartoon network as a kid (idk why??) so i first watched tawog last year and holy shit holy shit it’s my favorite thing ever. rob. ROB!!!! ROB IS MY ALL TIME FAVORITE CHARACTER. SO IS MR SMALL. AHHHH!!!! anyway i love tawog i’ve drawn a lot of fanart and even wrote a 60k word fanfiction (about what happens after The Inquisition because that ending fucked me up) that i’ve Never and will probably never show anyone because it’s probably Not that good. but it was sooo Important to me back then. tawog just means so much to me it :))) it changed me as a person. nobody’s a nobody and everybody is weird like you and me.
i also really like hollow knight! i haven’t played it in a while but i was at 111% completion on one of my playthroughs (CURSE YOU PANTHEON 4). i’m also super fucking excited for silksong obviously and i will say this now: WHEN SILKSONG FINALLY RELEASES… i will probably go on hiatus here LMAO. sorry but guys. SILKSONG…. honestly same for new deltarune chapters. the second chapters 3, 4, and 5 release it is sooo over for me. i probably won’t post much here for a few months during that. but that’s fine!! i’ll never abandon tllr but sometimes some things are more important to my silly little brain :3
gravity falls quite literally changed my life in 2018. like i can’t even explain it, but it’s how i was introduced to online fandoms and fanart in general. dipper LITERALLY made me trans (not literally but pretty much). it’s how i started watching other amazing cartoons and series i love, it’s literally what made me get into drawing art and writing and stuff. it’s what made me start making ocs. it literally made me an artist guys. which is how i started writing. without gravity falls and it’s effect it had on me, this account might have never existed?? i’m being super dramatic but wowww. i was so autistic about that silly cartoon
minecraft i love. i’ve been playing minecraft for over a decade and won’t stop because it’s like, probably a special interest of mine? i’ve watch minecraft youtubers forever too, hermitcraft and the life series are my favorite. i’m a huge grian fan too, been watching him since the evo days. anyway if u play minecraft and wanna play with me sometime, feel free to ask!!! :D i love making new friends and playing video games with people!!! let’s make a world together!!!
also i like terraria and stardew valley, and animal crossing new horizons but i haven’t played that in a few years. hmm other games i like are oneshot game, NITW, omori, celeste, cuphead, fnaf (although i’ve only played the first 5 games and am super super behind on the lore), ori, dead cells, untitled goose game (this is for u anon), and probably more i’m forgetting! feel free to recommend me some video games and we can even play together :3
other series i love are the umbrella academy. soooo autistic about this show it’s fucking AMAZING!!!!!! klaus is my favorite character. anyway i also like what we do in the shadows. it made me super autistic about vampires (before i watched this show i kinda thought vampires were cringe IDK WHY I’M SORRYY). the netflix show lucifer made me insane a few years ago and is what probably indirectly inspired me to give Dew wings. i also like our flag means death, breaking bad, moon knight, and camp here in there (another podcast i HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend, will wood made the soundtrack!)
i LOVEEE FINAL SPACE!! avocato has been my pfp on this account forever and now i feel like i can’t ever change it (i don’t want to). final space is seriously amazing!!! but it was cancelled and basically got fucked over by the networks- infinity train style. idk, stuff happened and it was removed from hbo max so there’s not really anywhere to watch it (legally) except for netflix international iirc? but it’s getting removed from that too i think. super fucking sad :( it ended on a huge cliffhanger too BUT there is a graphic novel being made!!!! super excited about that!
other cartoons i like are over the garden wall (dressed up as wirt for halloween last year), the owl house, adventure time, regular show, steven universe, infinity train, bojack horseman, rick and morty, mlp, the midnight gospel, and so much more i’m forgetting. OH anime i like are death note, demon slayer (haven’t caught up yet on the latest seasons tho), and MOB PSYCHO 100!! vampire in the garden on netflix is really amazing as well.
this is sooo long but now i gotta talk about my favorite music artists. WILL WOOD (AND THE TAPEWORMS) IS MY FAVORITEEE. I ALSO LOVEEE JHARIAH!!! AND HARLEY POE!!!!! top three of all time. i also like toby fox obviously, and glass beach (LITERALLY GOING TO SEE THEM IN MARCH AND I AM SOOO EXCITED!!!), mcr, shayfer james, weezer, mitski, lemon demon, set it off, tally hall, gerard way, and probably more i’m forgetting. i also like musicals!! (i was in the spongebob musical earlier this year for school! i was larry the lobster :))
so guys. GUYSSS. IF YOU LIKE MUSICALS, GO WATCH NERDY PRUDES MUST DIE!!!! OR JUST WATCH THE ENTIRE HATCHETFEILD TRILOGY!!! WHILE UR AT IT, WATCH ALL THE STARKID MUSICALS ACTUALLY!!! this is my current hyperfixation. the lords in black are amazing, npmd is amazing. i love everything about it. go watch it seriously, it’s fucking awesome and the soundtrack is AMAZING!!!
i think this is it. this got super long but i’m super passionate about my interests so yeah. this is pretty much everything. one very important thing (literally my special interest) that i didn’t mention are my other ocs. i have wayyy more ocs that are completely separate from the tllr ones. i don’t wanna post about them here though, cuz they’re not whump related and i want to keep my main account separate from this account. but they’re my favorite blorbos in existence so…
if u WANT to know about my other ocs, u can feel free to dm me for the username of my other fandom/oc account. that’s where i post other stuff that i don’t post here, like my fanart and my other oc stuff. i don’t post writing or anything like that there, so ur not missing out on that.
anyway those are most of my main interests! things i didn’t mention that im also really interested in are reptiles (snakes specifically), and animals in general. i have two leopard geckos named Lars and Alphys and i reallyyyy want a pet snake but my family hates snakes :(( anyway i’m rambling
thanks for the ask!!

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHONESTLY at this point everyone here knows that im loko-slowko, slowpokes great grandmother, so what can i say but ₊˚⊹thank you₊˚⊹ for 1. being the sweetest bun in the world and taking your time to ask me about my silly oc!!! and 2. thank you for surviving this month or two while i was replying!!!!! I COULD SAY that i was thinking about my reply but i know better than to pretend to have a braaaaain ( o˘◡˘o)
so!! questions!!!
tell us about your tav! name, class and subclass, race, pronouns. do you have a headcanon for where they're from? their family? are they a dark urge? or did you choose an origin character? was it an easy decision? (1)
my tav's name - isa or ise!! (with the emphasis on a\e!)
their main class is rogue-assassin (tho they're not above unorthodox usage of salami) (in a fight!!!!!) and im still yet to try to play with amazing blood hunter mod!! (•̀ᴗ•́ )و
you can see that in game they are tiefling but thats just because for some reason this head??? this beautiful head??? can be used only on fem!tieflings!!!!!! but thankfully we're blessed with transmask top surgery mod so it just works. i think of them as of sooooomeeeekiiiind offfff elfff??? idk honestly!!! dnd races make me want to cry////////////but the vibe i was going for was "they look like they're 30 yo MAX when in actuality they like 150 ooops"
their pronouns - they\he but! they're also mute (guess who grew up roleplaying silent-protagonists from early 2000 and cant get over it? SPOILER-FILLED SUMMARY OF DELTARUNE CHAPTER 3
I played through chapter 3 and 4 near-blind, so expect me to miss a LOT of stuff. Don't worry, I'm currently replaying them, mainly to fill in some secrets. In the meantime, please enjoy what little I have found to share with you!
However, before I begin, I have to apologize for something: I kinda lied, there will be no chapter 4 content in this article. I believe describing two brand new chapters with my limited writing skills may make this post way longer than it should be, and also there might be some people who just started chapter 3 with zero knowledge of the next chapter, so please let me take my time and summarize chapter 4 more clearly. Sorry for that!
Since I was so excited to play the game, my stupid ass forgot to record or screenshot, so I'll use what I've found online instead (I'll still only cover what I've found in my playthrough tho). Credits to Toby Fox, deltarune.wiki, and Shayy's playthrough videos.
So now that I've said everything I had to say, let's get to the point! You probably knew this already, but spoilers below, watch at your own risk!
So I waited through the countdown, bought the game on Steam (the process took several minutes since the server keeps crashing), and hooray, Deltarune chapter 3 is here! Kris and Susie woke up from a couch (and Ralsei joins soon after, of course) I walked them through the starting area, which resembles the area before chapter 1 castle town, for some reason.
Ralsei talked about the origin of darkners and gets depressed about not being real, and Susie tries to comfort him. Everything about this place felt so serious, so emotional, until... he arrived.
"It's now time for our feature presentation!
FEACHER
Coming straight from your house! Coming straight from YOUR house!
Coming! He's the one! COMING! THE KING OF ONLY! He's groovy and never glooby! You can't get this from an egg!
The sensation of your screen! The show that makes you scream! Say it with him, folks!
MR. (Ant) TENNA'S T-V TIIIIIIIME!!!"
I was still moody from the cutscene of Susie comforting Ralsei, and then Tenna just jumpscared me like that. Damn you, Tenna.
After a short introduction, we will be participating in Tenna's show! I thought it would be like Undertale's hotland shenanigans, where you traverse a map while Mettaton randomly hops out to give you a minigame, but nope, it's Zelda time!
I wasn't being warned in the slightest, because my God, this section is LONG. It took out a half of my total play time! Although I admit it was mainly because of me trying to search for secrets (I did all this since I had a great ambition to find and fight this chapter's secret boss in my blind run. It didn't turn out so well....), but this section is still very long even in my second run, so I'll cut most of the overworld exploration and cover only the important parts!
Lancer in chapter 3!
The weather, in fact, did not stay together
Cooking minigame. Unlike the pro gamer on stream, I fumbled the controls and died an ungodly amount of times. (Is three times a lot?)
The Green Room, where you relax and enjoy various stuff (Fighting a miniboss, gambling, playing minigames, etc.) before the next round! Imagine going back to a few years ago and telling people this is official content....
M O S S
Song That Plays When You Fight A Currently Divorced Couple Or A Funny Camera Thing
Awww, the couple is finally getting back together...
... with Rouxls! Wait, ROUXLS!?
Rhythm minigame. Again, unlike the pro gamer on stream, I am not doing well here, but at least I got this first try!
Susie decided that two Zelda sessions were quite enough, and she prompted us to explore a previously sealed-off area by mitigating parental controls. We found Toriel sleeping in the Cold Place, but Tenna caught us in the act and forced us to play a THIRD ROUND! Luckily, we managed to escape, and our world exploration can finally begin!
Banger alert! This area theme is FIRE!
Challenge yourself through various minigames and quizzes!
Office working simulator. Something good might happen if you free them from capitalism...
HE'S HERE
Battle Against a True Bisexual
After a short trip, we're finally back at where we started... hey, is it cold in here or is it just me?
We rushed to the Cold Place once more, where we finally confronted Tenna! Tenna told us his backstory: he used to be the Dreemurr family's beloved TV, which they and the Holiday families would gather around to watch the yearly specials. However, one by one, the viewers left, and Tenna was eventually unused. The Knight told him that if he could create an endless show for the three heroes, he could have all the people watch him as he wanted. Seeing that he can't convince them, Tenna fights the party as the final act...
(Wait, was this a Warioware reference?)
Tenna was finally defeated, and he admits that he just wants to be watched, wanting to be "useful" once more. Susie comforts him with her own experience and promises to find him a new owner.
Moved by her speech, Tenna decided to free Toriel and let the heroes leave! Awww, such a beautiful endin- OH GOD OH FUCK
The Roaring Knight showing up as early as chapter 3 was not on my deltarune bingo list, but here we are! The heroes tried to fight the Knight, but ended up failing miserably. Thankfully, it seems to be a scripted fail...
...or is it?
Chapter 3 had always been the hype center of our fandom for years, and I gotta say, Toby blew our expectations out of the stratosphere. The characters are so lively, the new mechanics are fun (although it took some time for me to adapt), the lore implications are wild, and the humor is of course top-notch. I have a few nitpicks for the story pacing though: This chapter was structured vastly differently from the previous two, which screwed my senses up a bit. I thought the "gameshows" would be some minor, recurring event happening throughout the adventure, not something that takes up half a chapter! (To be fair, Toby warned us this chapter would be pretty strange...)
Anyways, chapter 3 was for sure a surprise, but a rather welcome one. It is so shitpost-y, so goofy, yet so emotional and dark at the same time. I saw someone on youtube describe it as "if Toby Fox was tasked to make a deltarune fangame", and I honestly couldn't agree more.
This chapter feels rather weird at first glance, but I really look forward to replaying it. Now that I know the tips and tricks for the various sections, I'm looking to go through this chapter again and fill in the secrets!
(By the time I wrote this, I already completed chapter 4 and was partly into my second run of chapter 3, so I'll finish my summary of chapter 4 first, then make separate articles for the secret bosses and easter eggs)
Thanks for reading all of this, and hope you enjoy!

Finally watched a playthrough of Deltarune Chapter 2 and I understand why Spamton is everyone's little skrunkly. I also have the urge to crumple him up like a piece of paper and throw him against a wall.
#abusable character fr#yes I'm behind on deltarune#i realized I wasn't really an undertale fan but a papyrus fan#I can't get into deltarune enough to express the effort of playing it myself#I'm waiting to find out what the deal is with papyrus in deltarune

Deltarune paused for the night, I’m stuck fighting Jevil in my catch-up replay so I’m not sure if I want to commit to trying to beat him or just skip the bonus bosses in my playthrough and watch the fights and whatever they unlock on Youtube (i am struggling so hard against jevil’s danmaku already is the problem). I did build the duck though. Of COURSE I built the duck, i need to see the duck head again in the chapter 2 final fight. Good golly that new content is gonna be so good once I catch up…

Deltarune: Whose Choices Matter? (major spoilers for all routes)
I'm so extremely sure others have discussed this to death already, but I'm obsessed with the themes of "choice" in Deltarune. What's really stuck in my head are these three things:
1. At the start, you, the player, are told no one can choose who they are in this world and that your choices don't matter. The character you make gets thrown away.
2. Pretty much the second you're in the dark world, Ralsei starts telling Kris that their "choices are important too."
3. Toby has said many times that there is "only one ending" and, in one interview, that there's "something more important than reaching the end."
Lots of people have said that Toby was lying since there obviously are differences in both chapters depending on the choices you make. But I don't think that's true. Toby's the type to use clever wording to tell half-truths, but not straight up lie.
It's technically true that there's just one ending. No matter what the player does, the king still ends up in jail. Queen still stops her plan and joins you. Kris still opens up another dark foundation.
The changes in each playthrough are only indirectly the result of the player's actions. They are instead direct results of how the characters treat Kris and each other because of how you acted. Your actions don't matter and can't effect how the story plays out in and of themselves. But because all the key moments - the pillars, Ralsei revealing the story of the Roaring, etc - hinge on the characters' actions, their choices are the ones that matter and the ending is always more or less the same. This theme of choice and the effect of your actions on others is central to pretty much every "changeable" part of the story.
Let me provide some examples.
1. Minor Details
If you toss away the manual Ralsei gives you in chapter 1, he'll put a trashcan in Kris' room instead of a stand for the manual.
This is a really small, pretty insignificant detail. It doesn't affect the story. I personally never touched the manual again even though I kept it. If you toss it, Ralsei still gives Kris/the player tips on how to play. But Toby still programmed it in. He programmed Ralsei to notice you threw away something he worked on, and to treat you differently as a result. Maybe just as a joke, sure. But there's many other instances of characters remembering your actions and treating you accordingly.
Another example: If you step off one of the first electric wall switches before Noelle is done crossing to the other side to stand on the other button, she scolds you and then pulls the same prank on you. Kris looks hurt in response - because they're getting punished for something you did. It's a lot harder to brush this one off as just a joke when it ends with someone feeling hurt.
2. Kris' Dialogue
The player chooses a lot of dialogue for Kris. But sometimes Kris speaks on their own or chooses how they say what they're told by the player to say.
After the Spamton NEO fight, if you choose to tell Susie you're okay, Susie will think about how Kris is speaking hoarsely, and so she thinks Kris probably isn't okay. If you choose to say you're not okay, Ralsei says Kris is yelling. No matter what option you choose, Kris chooses to do their best to communicate that they are definitely not okay. It's Kris' choice here that matters and effects how the characters react, not yours.
3. Recruiting
Chapter 2 hammers in the idea that sparing enemies is important by introducing the recruiting mechanic. But recruiting doesn't seem to actually do much yet, aside from giving you some extra dialogue and dojo challenges.
At one point, there's some tutorial text from Ralsei that mentions how from now on, fighting an enemy instead of sparing it will make it unable to be recruited. Then it specifically mentions that there might be times where breaking bonds will make you stronger. There was something like this in chapter 1, too, where Ralsei seems to realize after fighting the king that the party can't always spare everyone.
This is in pretty stark contrast to Undertale, where the fight/spare mechanic basically meant choosing between life and death for any character. The character you're fighting doesn't get any say in the matter in Undertale. In Deltarune, you (or, more accurately, Kris) don't have the power to kill someone. You can only beat them up badly enough that they choose not to join you. At some point in the later chapters, making someone not want to join you might be a better decision.
4. Berdly
If you just focus on the Queen, Berdly tries to remove it himself, damaging his arm in the process. When he wakes up in the light world later, he still can't move his arm.
In the first battle with Queen, Berdly is attached to one of her plugs. You can loosen it to free him, like you did with the Werepires.
You didn't hurt Berdly. But if you choose to ignore him to focus on finishing the fight instead, his own actions in response cause him to be hurt anyway.
5. Snowgrave
Kris doesn't seem to have the ability to kill. Neither does Susie or Ralsei.
But Noelle does.
It's important to note that the player doesn't have complete control over anyone in the party except Kris. At the start of chapter 1, Susie makes her own choices in battle. Even in chapter 2, you can't take equipment off her unless you're swapping in something else (she tells you "Hands off!" if you try). The characters can just straight up refuse to follow your/Kris' orders if they want.
If you command Noelle to brute force puzzles, to "get" the ring, to ice all the Darkners, she gets used to hurting others to feel stronger. Then she can use Snowgrave - the only action that specifies it is lethal - in the fight with Berdly. When you tell Noelle to use Snowgrave, she refuses several times. She even tells you that she "doesn't know a spell called Snowgrave" to get you to stop. If you keep badgering her, she finally snaps, and chooses to cast it.
The wildest part about the Snowgrave route, in my opinion, is that there doesn't even seem to be any reward for doing it. In Undertale, the whole appeal of the No Mercy route was the epic boss fights that couldn't be played on any other route. The reward was the challenge. In Snowgrave, you skip almost half of the story and multiple boss fights. And for what? A slightly harder version of a boss you can also fight on any other run?
You can manipulate Noelle into making a terrible choice and presumably killing Berdly, seemingly just for the hell of it. After you return to the light world, the only things that change in the story are that Berdly doesn't wake up and Noelle is scared out of her mind if she sees you wearing her watch. Susie still walks you home. Toriel still asks Susie to stay over. Kris still slashes the tires on Toriel's car and opens a new foundation. Nothing major changes.
All Snowgrave seems to do is get you to the same ending faster.
Deltarune is about choices, sure. But more accurately, it's about how your choices affect the people around you, and how that informs their choices, and so on.
So, what's more important than reaching the end? It's how you - and the characters - chose to get there. It's about the journey, not the destination.
