So, I have just come home from Alton Towers (a theme park) and of course my autistic brain went a bit nuts in the queues so here is my take on what stormlight characters would do at a theme park lol:

Adolin: absolutely loves everything about the place, gets stupidly excited and practically runs from ride to ride, gets pissed off when the others don’t move fast enough and THERES ONLY A 15 MIN QUEUE SO COME ON LETS GO! he screams and whoops on rides and eats too many donuts and candy floss. yes he is sick at the end of it but so fuckin worth it.

Shallan: enjoys the vibes of the park, absolutely fascinated with how each area is themed and sketches in the queues. she’s more reserved on the rides than Adolin, but does laugh hysterically on them instead of screaming.

Navani: yes she enjoys the park, but is more interested how the rides work. Dalinar has to restrain her from asking a million questions to the ride staff. she goes on the odd ride but is usually quite quiet, focusing on the feeling of the mechanics. she has a secret love of shitty churros lol.

Renarin: fuck the theme park, only goes to please everyone else. it’s too loud, too many colours and there’s people everywhere. NO, ADOLIN, I WILL NOT GO ON THAT DEATH TRAP. he is the personal bag watcher while everyone else goes on. The only thing he does enjoy is the carnival games and is a weirdly good shot, so wins shit tons of stuffed toys.

Kaladin: tolerates the group holiday. went on one big ride, felt terrified and mildly sick and decided to only go on small ones after. weirdly loves water rides, gets fuckin so hyped on the river boat rapids. he wants to enjoy the day more, but can’t help worrying a bit every time the others are on a ride in case it goes wrong.

Jasnah: weirdly enjoys the park and actually lets loose a little. she appreciates the idea of creating false reality for entertainment, mixed with the cleverness and thrill of the rides. absolute control freak tho, and has a detailed map and schedule for the day.

Dalinar: activates full on Dad mode. has everyone drank enough? there’s a lot of walking, has everyone brought appropriate footwear? SHALLAN PUT SOME SUNCREAM ON OR SO HERALDS HELP ME. actually loves the rides tho, and follows all the rules of the park to the letter. sits next to Adolin on a ride once and ends up going nuts and screaming with him.

Hoid: disappears for periods of time and refinds the the group now and then. he hacks the arcade games and keeps coming back with more coins. no one questions it when one minute he’s sat on a ride next to them and the next he’s suddenly not there…

STEM is hard as hell! I wouldn't be surprised if most of us had those occasional moments of hatred for our studies lol. I've been taking ochem in this semester (which I don't like very much to put it lightly), so I have definitely been struggling with those. I'm sure it isn't uncommon.

What I think is important is to find a niche for yourself :) Ochem might be kicking my butt, but at least every Monday I get to come to thesis lab and do some beloved inorganic chem, and truly it's one of the things that got me through this semester.

Oh, and since I have the chance now: I LOVE your queue tag, it's so nerdy and clever!

what is the great and terrible queue

Oh it’s just my queue tag. It doesn’t really mean anything. Waaaaayy back in the day, it was the thing on tumblr to tag your queued posts with some kind of pun, or in my case to just use some phrase and lazily replace one word with “queue.” The novel A Great and Terrible Beauty was popular at the time, so I chose that as my queue tag.

Most people’s tags were a lot more clever than mine (“may the force be with queue” is one of my faves), but I got attached to it and never really wanted to change it, even though the trend and the novel’s relevance have long since waned.

In any case, you can always tell someone has been on tumblr for a really, really long time if they tag their queued posts that way.

hi!

i’ve been away from this beloved hellscape for the most part for like a month. life is just so busy! the queue has been chugging along but tumblr has been more like stop by for 5 minutes, see a post and put it in drafts to tag later, never actually get it tagged, come back 3 days later and drop 2 more reblogs into drafts, fail to add anything to the queue, rinse and repeat. my drafts folder usually has 5-10 posts in it. right now? 206. help.

i became mutuals with a few more kinnporsche friends (hello!!!) and i remain so happy at all the posting kp fans are still doing a year after the show aired. such a funny and clever group of people. might be time for my third rewatch.

i’m almost always on desktop and apparently there are awful dashboard changes coming my way? i have not been hit with it yet but am currently making burnt offerings to the xkit gods so whatever nonsense happens i’ll be able to fix it immediately.

Heyo! We've done six of these so far and it's been fun running this little game for yall. I hope its entertaining for you!

Now that we've got some under our belts I wanted to open up for feedback on a few different points. Im going to go over how ive done stuff so far, so if you have any thoughts on aspects of it you can chime in.

Putting the rest under the cut since it's kind of long.

1. Timing

So far I've tried to post new ones at sort of random times in the day so it doesn't give any one a consistent advantage. Im US Eastern and posts might go up anytime between 8am and 2am. I might even use the queue to schedule round the clock.

Another timing thing is that when someone guesses right, I give at least a few hours more before posting the reveal. It's just to give people a little more time to play, even if someone gets the answer right away. That's not to say you cant play after the reveal posts go up, but if youre anything like me, as soon as the ability to see the answer is available im clicking that link lol.

And since the reveal post tags the winner, I wait at least a few more hours for the next silhouette post so the prev winner doesnt have the advantage of being notified of the next one.

So a question here is should I wait longer or shorter on any of these areas? Do you like that its only one unrevealed at a time?

2. Difficulty level

This has been the hardest because it's a learning curve to find what's easy, what's hard, and why. There are SO many characters and runs, so it's hard to know if something I thought was memorable was even a blip on other people's radars. So ive tried to do a mix of difficulties.

Easier ones mean more people have the satisfaction of guessing and maybe getting it right, but if it's too easy then it might feel like these are puzzles for babies.

Harder ones mean a challenge and a lot of satisfaction if you figure it out or know that it's some niche thing. But if it's too hard then nobody gets it and it can feel kind of bullshit.

So what im wondering here is, do you feel like these have been too easy or too hard? Do you like it being a mix?

3. Character and image selection

If I put up a straightforward silhouette of Etrigan, everyone's going to get it and there's no challenge. On the flip side if i did a silhoutte or jason blood standing in a contextless room its like that could be literally any random man, so itd lead to random guesses. So ive been trying to find the sweet spot of the silhouette being somewhat familiar but not completely unique, and the rest of the image with some stuff going on. I think that's been going well but it does mean it relies on me and my ability to make a good little puzzle of it. So i hope I've been doing an alright job in that area.

Choosing from particular runs is interesting. I usually think of a character first then go find something they were in. Im finding the stories with other characters and team ups are good options to provide that extra context. But then the tricky part is that i have to be at least somewhat aware of whats popular and whats not. I dont want to use a panel from a run nobody read (unless its really good), and I also dont want to do one so infamous that everyone knows it like the back of their hand. So as with choosing particular images, I hope my choice of titles I'm sourcing these from has been fair.

4. How to guess

I went with tags so it encourages people to reblog and hopefully spread awareness of the blog. I think its also the easiest way people are inclined to interact per post. We couldve done asks but sometimes those get dropped by tumblr, and all the reveal posts would be answers to asks instead of standalone posts.

I like the idea that even for old ones people can still play and have fun with guessing on their own. Not sure if theres a clever way to encourage that.

And i hope the leaderboard is fun. Just a small incentive to participate. Its like saying nice job, thank you for playing.

5. Hints

As mentioned previously, if over a day goes by and nobodys got it ill post a hint. I've only done one hint so far and i was really not sure how subtle or overt i should be. Idk if anyone has thoughts about it?

i've followed you for a bit but i'm always curious, what inspired your queue tag?

It's from one of my favorite poems (Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening)! I got weirdly stressed at the idea of choosing a queue tag a few years ago because people have so many clever ones and I couldn't come up with anything clever, so I compensated with an incredibly long and clunky tag.

Throwing this out there cuz my brain is too full of weasels to do anything else with it

I was scrolling through my Drafts to set up the next sequence in my Queue and seeing two posts next to each got me thinking: Imogen and Laudna as Root and Shaw in a Person of Interest AU.

I think it works best with Imogen as Root and Laudna as Shaw, though I did have a moment where I considered it flipped the other way around. I think then that the rest of the crew works out to be Orym as John, FCG as Bear, Chetney as Harold, Fearne as Elias, and Ashton as Fusco. Though I suppose Eshteross would make a better Harold, but then I don't know what to do with Chetney. Actually... it would kinda be funny to have Chetney as Martine, but I wouldn't want to have him squarely on the opposing team from the rest of Bell's Hells. I know Elias has danced back and forth between ally and antagonist, but I think that kinda works for Fearne, being the chaos muppet that she is. Maybe Otohan would be Martine. Or Control. Anyhoo, I hadn't really given it a ton of thought beyond Imodna as Shoot, but I figured I'd write this out to see what folks thought.

So... it's been a minute. I may be coming back here, not sure yet. I spent the last 8 months bingeing literally everything Critical Role-related and then hopped over here to start collecting fanart, so I'll be reblogging a bunch of that soon. AITA for wanting a promotion?

My boyfriend (32M) and I (34M) had a bit of a tiff about our situation at work. My boss (245M) recently got a promotion, but I don't think he's handling the job well and I know I'd be better suited for the position. I have a lot of great ideas about how to change things around here, and think I could make the most good of the current situation if I had this job. (Also, my boss wouldn't even be where he is now without all of my hard work)

My boyfriend is worried because he thinks I'm enthralled by the promise of power and "trying to be the ultimate judge of everything". He also made some mean remarks about how I acted in recent confrontations with former business rivals. I think this is unfair because a) he was very supportive of me smiting them at the time, and b) he knows the slow, inevitable loss of my humanity is something I'm sensitive about.

We had a fight and then he ran off with a spider lady. AITA here? And WIBTA if I went for the promotion anyways without telling him? Yeah, he might be mad at me but I think it would be better for everyone in the long run.

EDIT: Listen, I know everyone is trapped in their own personal hellscape of fear, but if literally anyone could get on reddit and offer some advice about this I'd really appreciate it.

EDIT 2: Everyone weighing in from the Lonely domains telling me to dump my boyfriend can fuck off.
