and another little scene THIS IS THE LAST ONE I'M POSTING UNTIL I UPDATE ON AO3 JUST BECAUSE I REALLY SHOULDN'T SPOIL MY OWN FIC THIS MUCH but like. I'm also just excited that I'm writing. And the mental image of this scene has been in my head for way too long lol
-
"You're…real this time, right?"
Siffrin has always been on the quiet side, but this question could have been whispered by a mouse. You nearly miss it; Isabeau reacts first while you're still parsing it. "Sif? Of, of course we're real! Can't you tell??"
Siffrin flinches away, shrinking into their cloak with a faint "sorry", and you know.
They can't. They can't tell. Not well enough to be sure.
Have they been hallucinating? How long, that they're doubting their own sight right now? "I'm sorry I'm sorry I'm sorry," they whisper. "I'm sorry, I lost you. I'm sorry, I have to make sure you're fine, I have to be sure, I have to loop back--"
"Siffrin," you say loudly, just as their hand lights on their dagger. Why is he reaching for his dagger if he's going to loop back? No, no, that's not the issue right now. The issue is that they cannot loop back. You'll forget everything. He won't tell you again, not if this is how things end. You cannot have him looping. "If--If you can't trust that you're seeing us," you say, thinking quickly. "What if I touched you?"
Your question works in that it distracts Siffrin. His eye widens as they stare at you, the surprise clear as crystal on his face. "Huh?"
His hand falls away from the dagger.
You don't like that it was there to begin with, but you need to convince them while you have their attention. "If you're doubting sight and sound, touch would be the next logical option. It may be distasteful to you, but…" You raise your left hand with a deliberate slowness so that it's clearly in their vision. "If I touched you, would that be enough reassurance?"
He stares at you for a moment. The 'no' is already ringing in your mind. If he goes for the dagger again you'll need to use your Craft to slow him down and grab him--or hope Isabeau grabs him--but why would he reach for the dagger? He said he was going to loop, he said he was going to loop last night, how does he choose when to loop when he's made it clear he can't control the looping itself? The only answer coming readily to mind is abhorrent--
His hand moves up, further away from the dagger. Both of his hands reach up to the top of his head, snatching his hat off to hold by the brim as he stares at you, light eye unblinking.
"You want me to put my hand on your head?" you guess, trying to make sense of the silent response. The question elicits a nod, and it seems…logical enough--their cloak and gloves would mute any touch on his body, and the face and neck would likely feel too vulnerable--so you move your hand toward the bird's nest of hair, still slowly, not wanting to alarm them. He's so tense. "Breathe, Siffrin." You don't want them panicking, and you certainly don't want them fainting, either.
He breathes deeply in a familiar way. In and out. He still stares at your hand as it approaches, but at least he knows it's coming. Both his hands are occupied with the hat and won't make a Craft sign by accident. He has time to object, either with words or a gesture, if he realizes it will be too much.
You lower your hand into his hair in a waltz count, one-two-three. Immediately you encounter tangles and take care of where your fingers go in his unkempt hair. He tenses up even more, his breath hitching, but otherwise doesn't move. You hope that means they trust you.
"I'm real, Siffrin," you tell him, putting all the self-assurance you can muster into your voice. "As are Isabeau, Mirabelle, and Boniface. We're fine. We were only separated for a few moments."
"…Anything could have happened," they whisper.
"Nothing did. And even if it had, we're a bit hardier than that."
He winces. "I'm sorry I lost you."
You can't help the dry exasperation that creeps back into your voice. "Then don't storm off again. Straightforward enough, don't you think?"
He quickly nods several times, the motion frantic under your hand.
"We're here, and we're okay. You're…" They're not fine. You can't bring yourself to say that they're fine when it's plainly untrue, especially after how often they've misused that word in the past day, but you need to reassure them somehow. "You aren't alone. We're here with you. Do you trust me?"
The nods are less frantic this time. He seems to be calming down. He's still rigid, though. Touch has done its job and now it's only making them uncomfortable, so you start to take your hand away--
And then they bunt your hand with their forehead. Their eye darts up to look you in the face before it widens in horror. Siffrin takes two quick steps back, his gaze dropping back to the floor as he jams his hat back on. "Sorry! Sorry!" With his shoulders hunching up, his cloak and hat eclipse his entire expression.
"Siffrin?" Mirabelle asks. Isabeau and Boniface are both looking at you, likely trying to gauge what Siffrin did that they're apologizing. You're trying to figure that out yourself. The way he moved…certainly, you're not harmed. They tapped against your hand with only a little bit of force; if anything, it reminded you of how one of Ka Bue or Poteria's many friendly stray cats, comfortable around people, would sometimes ease up to you as you were reading in the open and bunt your hand to signal they wanted to be pet.
You doubt that was anywhere near Siffrin's intention. They hate being touched. Still… you wonder what that expression meant. Before he'd gotten scared, the expression he'd given you had been almost…
The only way you'll figure it out is if you ask. And if, hopefully, you get a straight answer. "What are you apologizing for this time?"

um in depth thoughts about my isat pokemon au I guess lol
Siffrin
Gimmighoul has been with Siffrin since around the coin incident. It carries around his silver coin and just kinda stuck around.
Idol Pikachu and Pawniard have been with Sif since he can remember. I thought a generic cute mon like Pikachu would match with his own generic but cute design while the idol cosplay references his love for stage plays. Pawniard being a mon associated with blades matches with his scissor type, him using a dagger, and his hobby of wood carving.
The Psychic types are all Pokemon Siffrin aquired during the loops and represent aspects of their character that are explored during the events of the game. Beeheeyem is an alien-like Pokemon that can manipulate memories and represents Sif's feelings of alienation and his memory issues. Clefable are associated with space and look up to the sky at moonlit nights yearning for their home, representing his homesickness. And Gothitelle can see the future by looking into the starsky, sometimes grieving when they see their trainer's lifespan. It represents Siffrin's fear of the future.
Pikachu is their main Pokemon. I've also thought about giving them a Klefki which would suit their role as a Rogue but they already had a full team of six and I was pretty happy with the choices.
Mirabelle
Luvdisc, Tinkaton, and Alomomola are all mons that have been with Mira since before her journey. I gave her Luvdisc since it's said that couples who see those would be blessed with eternal love and I feel like that myth is the kinda thing she would be into, given she enjoys romance fiction. Alomamola is here both because it's a healer Pokemon, and because people compare it to Luvdisc a lot. And Tikaton feels like the brand of cute but powerful/menacing that I think suits Mira.
Virizion, Aegislash, and Gallade are all Pokemon that more or less play into her Chosen One role. Virizion she got soon after she recieved Euphrasie's blessing. It felt appropriate to give her a Legendary Pokemon and I decided to go with one of the Swords of Justice since she herself is a swordfighter and the Swords are known as fierce protectors, matching her and her role. I picked Virizion specifically since its known for its speed which feels like a fitting contrast to the King's ability to freeze time plus there's some irony with it being a Grass Type while Mirabelle isn't very good at raising plants.
Aegislash still follows the swordfighter theme and is possibly the mon that embodies her Chosen One role the most, despite Virizion. In the past people who where chosen by Aegislash were to become kings, which again has some irony considering it's pointed out how strange it is that Vaugardians refer to the King as such seeing as it's not a monarchy. But I mostly thought of it from the angle of Mirabelle supposedly being chosen by divinity. I think she either got this Pokemon as a gift from Euphrasie when the house was frozen or a pre-evolved form from a Vaugardian citizen. Additionally Aegislash is a Pokemon from Kalos, which is based on France. And yknow Vaugarde takes inspiration from France too.
Gallade I think was her last Pokemon added to the team. It's kind of a generic heroic and noble Pokemon. It's pre-evolved form can also see into the future matching Mira's strive towards the future and change. I also thought it would be cute to have her match with Isabeau's Gardevoir.
I think Mirabelle's main mon would either be Tinkaton or Virizion. Though I have to say in retrospect I really regret not giving her a female Jellicent because I would happily replace either Tinkaton or Alomomola with one. Like it's a cute Pokemon that's actually really morbid and drowns people. Mirabelle is a sweet and anxious person who surpisingly loves horror books. Why didn't I think of this earlier!! Agh anyway, I also felt it was appropriate to make her the one person to have a full team of six besides Siffrin.
Odile
Hatterene, Lapras, and Mawile are all Pokemon Odile already had before coming to Vaugard. Hatterene resembles a witch, matching with Odile being a mage. It's also a Pokemon that can sense the emotions of other living things, gets overwhelmed by them, and acts aggressive in response which I feel suits with Odile coming across as cold and abrasive and not being very good at feelings. Lapras is here because it's a mon known for travelling long distances across the sea and we know Ka Bue is very far off from Vaugarde. Additionally the species used to be endangered so it might throw in a red herring about what Odile's research is about.
Hatterene and Lapras also both have this imposing regal presence which fits the surface level impression one might get from Odile. Serperior continues this pattern of being regal and imposing but I also put it here for other reasons. I wanted to reflect Odile being half-Vaugardian and longing to connect with Vaugardian culture in her team, so I chose to give her a Serperior which has an obvious french influence with its Fleur de lis patterns. Though I also chose it because it's one of my favorite Pokemon and Odile is my favorite character after Loop and Siffrin 👍
On the other end I also wanted a Pokemon with a clear Japanese ispiration since she comes from Ka Bue, which also has Japanese inspiration. So I gave her Mawile which is based on the yōkai Futakuchi-onna. I also thought it would be fitting to give her a literal two-faced Pokemon since she comes across as rather harsh and logical but genuinely cares for her party and has a soft side.
Lastly she has a Dedenne which I imagine she picked up during her journey with the party. A lot of scientists in Pokemon have Electric-Steel dual types which I wanted to give her since she's a researcher but nothing really fit. Instead she got a Steel Type with Mawile and an Electric Type with Dedenne! Which, by the way, is unlike Serperior an actual kalonian Pokemon so it adds to that theme too. Dedenne also uses its whiskers as antennas to communicate over vast distances and I'm sure she'd appreciate a Pokemon this convenient. Sidenote in the tags of my original ISAT Pokemon team post someone said they liked the contrast between Odile's overall more graceful Pokemon and then there's Dedenne which actually isn't even something I really thought about!
I believe Hatterene would be Odile's main. Other considerations for her team would've been Froslass instead of Mawile, though I decided Mawile fits better, and Delphox which is both a mage and another kalonian Pokemon.
Isabeau
Abra is a Pokemon Isa has had since he was a child. He was a nerdy kid and the third evolution stage, Alakazam, is well known for being intelligent so it fits. Though it still remains in its first stage since Isa hasn't been training it in battle for a long time, but its still important to him and part of his team.
Machamp and Gardevoir are also Pokemon who have been with him for a long time, becoming part of his team not long before he joined the Defenders. Again, Gardevoir matches with Mirabelle's Gallade. It's also a very protective and loyal Pokemon and it's pre-evolved form is rather perceptive of other's emotions. Meanwhile Machamp is a strong physical fighter.
Furfrou and Eevee are more recent additions to his team, joining Isabeau during his journey with the party. Furfrou are from Kalos and used to be royal guard dogs though nowadays they're popular for how much their fur can be styled, which suits Isa's desire to become a fashion designer imo. As for Eevee, which can evolve in many different ways and really suits the whole theme of change, I was actually considering giving him an Eeveelution but Isa is very well aware that he still wants to grow and change as a person so an unevolved Eevee matches him in that. I also just think a simple cute Pokemon like that would speak to his tastes.
I think Gardevoir would be his main mon though I can also see his Eevee becoming one.
Bonnie
Pansear and Slurpuff are both Pokemon Bonnie has had since before the King. Pansear is here both because I really wanted to give Bonnie a fire type and because I always associate it with cooking/baking because I always remember one specific baker npc from Pokemon Black and White that uses a Pansear lol. Slurpuff is obviously a food based Pokemon and again, from Kalos. It also has a strong sense of smell which would be useful to Bon.
Riolu joined the team during Bonnie's journey. It is an active and energetic baby Pokemon which suits Bonnie wanting to play their part in the party but being put on the sidelines by the adults. Something about Bonnie wanting to be strong and Riolu evolving into a strong mon.
Pansear is their main but I can see Riolu reaching that status too. I also thought it would be fitting to have Bonnie have the smallest team.
Loop
Gimmighoul is the one Pokemon they could never get rid of, and the only one remaining from their original timeline.
Mimikyu is meant to be a twisted reflection of Siffrin's Pikachu. A pitiful envious reflection that is in reality much more unpleasant than the real thing.
Celebi is here both because of timetravel and because it lives in forests and Loop always sits under the Favor Tree. Funfact! One of the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games has a plot about time being frozen where a supporting character is a Celebi.
Yamask actually manifest from the ghosts of passed away people. Their mask will show their face as it was when they were still living and sometimes they will look at it in grief.
Xurkitree is here partially because of its design, yes, but also because it can enter and tree-like state. and Favor Tree.
I think Gimmighoul would be their main. Potential Pokemon I considered Blacephalon but I couldn't really justify it beyond "they're goofy so they get a clown pokemon" and giving them a mythical and one ultra beast was enough. plus while them having a full team would be appropriate with their secret boss status, I can hardly imagine Loop really taking care of their mons much, especially not a full team.
okay that w as a lot im gonna go to bed now goodnight. passes out

For giant siren, we've seen an angry guppy Antonio with his glowing eyes. Can I see what a rageful adult would look like. I'm too use to them seeming peaceful, but I'd like to see the Sea monster side of them lol. If ya can, luv 😊
Throwback to when the surface level of Guppy Grotto was raided and a lot of the guppies, specifically toddlers and babies were taken onto a ship. Guess who was one of those?? Mirabel (and Camilo but I digress)
Julieta was not happy lmao

It took me a while to notice that the Encanto gramma predicates them “deserving” the miracle (survivor’s guilt there) on them using their gifts for everyone who asks for help, all day, no rest, and tries to make sure no one in the town ever feels alone or unprotected, but not only is that making the kids feel exhausted and inauthentic and unseen; it’s also making her unable to deal with reality (the miracle faltering); and it’s also probably the reason Bruno felt like his gift was hurting everyone, bc it made the villagers really uncomfortable. At first the way “we don’t talk about Bruno” presents him made me think he was walking around telling people bad news unasked, but then he says everyone kept asking him, they just didn’t like the answers. So the town feeling unsafe around him made abeula feel like they were failing them.
And! The way Pepa tells her part of the song makes it sound like everything was sunshine at the wedding until he said what he said. But her husband corrects her “there wasn’t a cloud in the sky” to “no clouds ALLOWED in the sky.” And then at the end Bruno said “I could see that you were stressing,” which presumably means she did already have a little cloud when he showed up. But every time Pepa shows a cloud Abuela yells at her. She’s even dressed all in yellow with sun earrings, she’s trying to hard to stay sunny for Abuela. So she revised it in her memory to Bruno causing it. But then at the end when he tells her he wishes she would just feel all her feelings, her husband says “I’ve been saying that” and at the very end she’s dancing in the snow.
And at first I thought Mirabel had no gift but she and Bruno have almost the same gift! He had future sight and she has inner sight—she can see the cracks in the house before they appear, she can see Luisa’s trauma visually as she explains it. And at first she seems more determined than Bruno to follow through on her gift, but by the end she followed the same route as him—she ran off convinced she’d failed them. But bc Abuela had been through it already with Bruno she was able to make a different choice this time and follow Mirabel and let her teach her. I wonder if Abuela had inner sight too, since Mirabel seems poised to inherit the rest of her gift—house and candle guardian. She pretends she doesn’t believe the magic is faltering but then privately admits she knows, so is it bc she can see it too and was in denial? Or she just guessed bc of what happened to Mirabel?
The fact that Bruno saw the future still in doubt means the visions were multi layered anyway. And adjusting to free will as it happened. I love that Bruno’s prophecies are fluid like that. How the meaning shifts in response to what they choose. Dolores takes his prophecy and chooses to go get her man, Isabela takes it and gets new dreams of her own. So it doesn’t hurt them. I love how all of them develop so much more dimension to their gifts when they’re allowed to use it for themselves and not just for service! Selfishness!! It’s so necessary! I think it’s one of the best forms of healing trauma!! Bc our idea of selfishness gets so twisted. i’ve heard some people say they wished they hadn’t gotten their gifts back. They thought it would be more powerful if they didn’t, but I think the point is that the gifts are just who they are, it’s not really about them being magic. The house only amplifies the gift.
We never really get to see Mirabel’s moms inner life, which makes sense because that’s how we are with our parents at that age. But I do wonder if she had any adjusting she needed to do..
Also fascinating how Dolores is the one after Bruno who sees how things are most accurately, and she sees how nobody wants to hear what he sees, so she stays quiet about her perceptions about what she hears and just reports what she’s asked for neutrally, almost mechanically (unless it’s a major emergency, lol). Like Mirabel says Dolores will tell everyone, but she never argued with anyone about Bruno being bad even though she knew it was more complicated than that, she never tells anyone she still hears him sometimes, she reports “he wants five babies” with the barest quirk of her mouth, she never once mentions Isabela’s bf is her dream man even though Bruno told her that would happen years ago. Her verse about Bruno is by far the most perceptive but she almost whispers it. And only tells Mirabel things if she’s asked. It's so traumatic to be the one who sticks out, who can’t hide the gift so it antagonizes everyone. But it’s almost as traumatic to be the one who has to stifle their gift and not to use it nearly to its potential because so they’ve seen what will happen.
It’s SO layered and so dang accurate to how trauma plays out generationally and I’ve rewatched it three times and still keep noticing things and WOW. And Dos Origuitas makes me cry. Bc it’s layered too! It’s not just “you’ll transform through trauma,” it’s “the process of transformation may take you away from the people you went through the trauma with, and that’s ok, you have to let each other go and trust the cocoon and that you’ll find each other again after if you can” and that’s a lot!!!

I Finally Watched Encanto
And it was very underwhelming. I don't get what the hype was about. It was mid at best. The best thing about it was probably the visuals. Oh, I loved the variety of skin tones! Usually, I don't care about skin colour in movies but for some reason, it stood out to me in this one. The intro and outro scenes were good too.
I am not a film expert so I can't convey what made the film fall flat for me. But here are some things that I found lacking:
The music is not memorable and I found it hard to immerse myself in it. I absolutely hated Surface Pressure. Some parts of We Don't Talk About Bruno were nice to listen to but it still wouldn't make the top 10 of my Disney songs list. It's not a song I would sing to myself. I can't even remember any of the lyrics besides the title namesake. I think my favourite piece was the Caterpillar song that played for Abuela Alma and Pedro. Maybe partly because it's in Spanish so I have lower expectations for it lol. Since I barely speak Spanish and all.
The family members kind of felt like plot devices? That just appeared when the plot called for it? I am not sure how to explain it but the main culprit for me was Isabela. She was basically a nothing character who was just there in the background being a prima donna and rolling her eyes. Then once Mirabel supposedly has to confront her, she has all this major development in like 2 mins and finally cracks? Luisa was way better because I saw her insecurities and how weakness made her feel worthless throughout the movie. I don't understand why Cousin Camilo was needed in the movie. His dad was good enough comic relief. I loved Antonio at the start and his relationship with Mirabel. I wanted to see that relationship more in the movie so much. But then even he began to feel like a cheap plot device.
How Bruno was handled was unsatisfying. The whole plot about Bruno just felt contrived. Bruno is supposed to be the family undesirable who no one talks about...but Dolores knew about him the entire time? The ending with Abuela and Bruno felt so rushed too. I thought the climax would have involved Bruno more but he just showed up at the end and now everything is ok? Bruno was just a way to show Mirabel how special she was and once that happened, everything about Bruno was wrapped up in a neat tidy bow.
The plot development was poor and felt like a plot in an adventure game. Gave me similar vibes to the plot in The Rise of Skywalker. How Luisa just happens to know Mirabel's starting point. How Mirabel just happens to find Bruno when the dude has been living unnoticed for how long. Even the ending with the butterfly almost made me roll my eyes.
The powers felt underdeveloped. I don't understand the limits of them and why only the Madrigals have them. Well, I guess it makes sense for the family to have the miracle to themselves as a kind of comfort for Pedro dying...like men don't sacrifice themselves for their families nobly all the time. How much weight can Luisa lift? What is the range of Pepa's powers? Mirabel said in her song that her mood affects the weather but the movie mainly shows the weather just affects her individual space. How do they control them? What if someone abuses their powers?
Anyway, its not a bad movie but I wouldn't watch it again. I preferred Coco over Encanto. The family relationship felt more developed and the focus was just on the family members relevant to the plot. The Abuela in Coco was more sympathetic and the generational trauma was way more justified there. Plus the music was better and the plot development felt more organic. I would watch Coco again. Encanto is just meh and seems a tad overrated.

I dunno u sure kill her a lot lol. I wanna see what happens if another family member dies. Would the madrigals just pretend it didn't happen like they do in every Mirabel dies story? Or would they actually care this time because it's not someone they hate? Why DOES your version of the family hate mirabel more than in the movie? Just part of the AUs? Added drama?
I don’t kill her separately a lot, if she dies the rest of the grandkids (at least) usually go down with her, so this is really unfounded to me. And even when Mira (or anyone else) does die the family do care and mourn - you just don’t get to see them grieve because the story follows Mirabel.
I also have no idea which AU we are specifically talking about in this instance. But I’m guessing it’s Reincarnation? Do correct me if I’m wrong.
Reincarnation has to differ from canon for the existence of the film to make logical sense, if that’s what you’re asking. And realistically the family issues wouldn’t be completely solved because Mirabel didn’t live long enough to have her moment with Abuela.

(Some) people ship starboy and asha cause they think it would "fix" asha's personality, they also ship it so they don't notice asha all that much starboy completely over shadows asha, Starboys personality is almost the same as asha's just a lot more childish Uh oh starboy Tripped and Fail?! That's so Funny and cute! Asha is Nervous about her Interview with the king who is know to be attimidating and nitpicky and rude with people who try to be his apprentice? "Ugh🙄" its just a little biased is all i notice that when a adorkable female character is partner up with a adorkable male character the adorkable female character is "annoying" and has "no personality" while the treatment the adorkable male character gets is "lol he's so cute" "lol he can't do anything right we support boy failure🤪" it just sounds a little biased.
This!!! I feel like (some) people just like the idea of Starboy without maybe caring much about Wish in the first place? You can share your own headcanons and concepts without necessarily bashing the source material, it’s something perfectly fine people have done in fandoms since forever lol.
I’m also pretty much convinced that is now trendy to hate on main (especially Disney… Marvel… etc) and so people will jump on any hate train. I swear the whole “Asha has no personality” thing originated from some early review or something and then people started copy-pasting it everywhere without even watching the movie… cause yes she’s quirky and stuff like SOME recent Disney heroines (not all!! Raya?? Elsa???) but people act like that alone makes her a bad or badly written character lol. It doesn’t.
It’s an archetype people like and easily relate to, I’ve seen people being very emotional about relating to Mirabel or Meilin. So I guess that’s also why Starboy gets a free pass for it from people (+ people are more indulgent to male characters than they are with female characters… just saying). Of course it’s a Bad Thing on Asha, because omg The YouTubers said that!! :))

So KH III said there are 7 new lights (well really 6 since Kairi is still a princess of heart) and while I'm not sure what happened to the original 6 the power has apparently passed on. So far we have Rapunzel, Elsa, and Anna and it makes sense they're 3 of the most recent and have been super popular over the years and yeah Rapunzel not being pure light with her story? Laughable.
That being said I'm hoping we see more expansion of the 7 princesses of heart and I have some guesses as to who the final 3 might be.
Merida, I feel pretty safe in saying she's a candidate since the term pure light may not have to be like innocence but pure conviction. And Merida is nothing if not steadfast in determination. She'd also be one of the more proactive POH
Moana, she's also pretty recent and her story would not only make a great world but she would make a great pure light. Chosen by the ocean, compassionate and already trying to save her world her heart just so happens to help maintain the balance of all worlds and she doesn't know it? Queen shit.
Finally this one is less likely but imma throw it in anyway and say Mirabel. She's the newest and like Alice not an official princess or in the disney princess lineup. But a repeating theme with all these girls is their dedication to their family's and homes that make them "pure" and counting Kairi this would make of the poh woc which is a plus.
I also realized the last 3 all start with m which is funny but those are my predictions. I wanna see Kairi actually interact with her fellow princesses of heart come on Nomura give it to me!
I think a funny thing they could do would be to include Raya from Raya and The Last Dragon because -while I've never seen the movie myself- I'm pretty sure the place she's the princess of/ the kingdom she was from is literally called "Heart". So she's literally a princess of heart.
Anyway, yeah I agree with those being likely candidates. I'd honestly be surprised if there was no Encanto considering how popular it was when it released. They got Frozen in kh3, I don't see why Encanto wouldn't be put into kh4 for the same reasons lol.

Sallow parents professor positions (My HC/Theory)
I personally think that Sebastian’s dad would be the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor. It makes sense and fits really well. To address those who may bring up the point that Dinah Hecat who teaches DADA at the time of Hogwarts Legacy— lemme put in my two cents.
My HC is that the Sallow parents died when Anne and Sebastian were around seven years old. As Ominis said when he was explaining the Sallow parents death to MC; Anne and Sebastian were too young to have magic. Which means they weren’t at school yet and were (probably) very young when it happened. The Sallow Parents Wiki page also states that they died between 1874 and 1882 which means the twins couldn’t have been any older than eight when it happened.
Dinah Hecat still worked as an Unspeakable in 1878 and we know this from the first DADA class when she talks about the Dragon Skeleton that Sebastian almost knocked down on Leander (lol 💀). Now that would put the Sallow twins at four years old which means their parents could’ve been alive by then.
My suspicion (and HC) is that Dinah Hecat took the position of DADA Professor after Mr. Sallow’s death sometime after 1878, it would make a lot of sense too.
Sebastian always excelled in DADA class specifically and Solomon always called him “his fathers son”, which would make a lot of sense especially if Sebastian’s dad was the DADA professor.
As for Mrs. Sallow:
I have reasons to believe that Sebastian and Anne’s mother would’ve been the potions professor. I dunno why I thought of this but I think it really works. Aesop Sharp was still working for the ministry as an Auror by 1875 so Mrs. Sallow totally could’ve been the potions professor before that and after she died, Aesop got the position as potions professor.
IF this HC somehow wouldn’t work out, I could also see her being the herbology Professor just because Mirabel Garlick looks super young and I doubt she’s any older than twenty-seven.(Or maybe I just suck at guessing ages lol). So either could work, but I favor her being the potions professor over the herbology professor.  Thank you for coming to my TEDtalk.

Hey so guess what I found on TikTok. Someone’s shitty as Encanto hcs. Bitches like these are why people who have hcs without ignoring the plot or the movie still get a bad rap. Yeah I can see even clearer now why Latine fans are upset again but let’s dig into this train wreck.
Tumblr media
Mariano did what?! Mariano would never do that?! Also it’s weird that you have four single girls right there that you could headcanon as a lesbian and yet you pick her. Not that you can’t still have your headcanon it’s just weird. Also, she never liked guys? Then how come the prophecy was of the “man of my dreams”? I’m confused. Was they just comphet. I dunno. I love lesbians with every fiber of my being but not very female character has to be one. Oh wait but it gets worse.
Tumblr media
So Mariano cheated on her for her “tics” that aren’t actually tics but are common traits of Latina women?! Yeah good luck finding a woman who doesn’t “tic” Mariano. Got some internalized racism that you might wanna check out there bud.
Also “she wasn’t having it obvs” so then what? Mariano cheated on her because he couldn’t stand those little “tics” of hers and so she decided to become a lesbian?! That’s not how it works. That’s not how any of it works, but go off Susie.
Tumblr media
“She currently has two girlfriends and they make Mariano jealous all the time lol” Is she really a lesbian or is she just using these innocent women to get back and Mariano Johnnyboy? Do you even know what a lesbian is. Go grab a damn dictionary.
Next is Bruno, which imo is the worst.
Tumblr media
“Gay trans rat man” okay and that’s totes why he ran away. Because as we all know that prophecy of his that he had after Mirabel’s ceremony showed him not being accepted by that hOm0phOOOObIc woman Abuela and running away to protect his identity from her. Right? Riiiiiight? It’s like these people made up a fantasy Encanto in their heads that is all about queer acceptance. Just go watch The Prom. Or The Owl House if you want a diverse movie of a queer Latina.
Also, Alma dead? Seriously? Tell me you’re white without telling me you’re white.
Tumblr media
Not this again. Next you’re gonna tell me that Camilo is genderfluid with DID too. Sigh. *sips tea*
Tumblr media
*chokes*
They then go on to say “There isn’t much else to say about her”…just the level of dismissiveness and ignorance there. Anyway they also have the lesbian pride flag too but they never mention it, not even once.
And finally my “favorite”.
Tumblr media
Well I agree with this one at least. Finally one that isn’t harmful. I quite like the character I relate to the most having the same sexuality as me! Let’s see what else they’re going to say!
Tumblr media
YASS AMEN SISTAH GO FIERCE QUEEN! I gotta say this is probably the only good one! At least they didn’t make some stupid shit up like—
Tumblr media
“She was scared of coming out for so long because Alma was homophobic and wanted her to be perfect.” Oh wait, never mind.
Also don’t think I didn’t catch you misspelling Isabela you dumb bitch.
Thank goodness the rest of the comments are calling him out or imma go insane.

So I listened to the podcast with the Jared/Charise/Byron interview shared by @madrigaljail and I noted some things said in there! I'll make some comments between brackets sometimes.
You can listen it here!
Powers were often swapped around (Like Dolores having Julieta's gift!!!)
The project started 2 years onto Zootopia
Encanto is a family story different from other family stories
Family is complicated
They didn't know the names at first, they only knew that there will be a bunch of kids and one is ordinary
The backstory of Abuela is the core of the story
The project started fall 2016
They spent months researching
Disney prioritized researches (obviously)
It's not a religious miracle, only a miracle for the family
It's a story of families around the world
Things aren't always fully explained in magical realism, it's open to interpretation and Disney typically never have done that (They talked some times about Magical realism I don't know if they really understood it. I didn't understand Magical realism either when seeing things about it)
The magic in the movie is unique (Really? Maybe)
The antagonist had to be from inside the family so conflict are more nuanced because they all love each other, they're missing each other (Of course! PEPA LOVES BRUNO!)
Isabela is antagonistic toward Mirabel
Not having a villain permitted them to concentrate on the characters
At some point they thought about making Julieta the antagonist (That would have been wild wow!)
They ended up spending a lot of times with the characters and it helped for making the movie (I can understand that.)
It was overwhelming to write the dinner scene because of the number of characters
The song The family Madrigal is super important
Bruno's role on the concept of the family's symbolic role is "The outcasted, the troubled family member"
When thinking about his power it appeared seeing the future and be blamed for that would be horrible for Bruno
First he was 1 or 2 years older but finally it appeared to be better if he was already gone when Mirabel is "experiencing a sort of kick in"(?) (What the heck are you saying Jared?)
They wanted to have Mirabel have the stake "if something doesn't go right with you in this family you can have to leave it" (AAAAAAAAA)
Because it would be a fate worst than death, her biggest fear (Oh my!!!)
No way Abuela didn't come to Bruno to ask him for any danger "I have to protect this family"
The most important thing about Bruno is he loves his family and leaving was the better act to prove it
WDTAB came late in the project
The animals were talking at some point and in WDTAB the Toucan was saying about Mariano "he's hot" (...Bruno is ho*sbaff*)
They hope that WDTAB's demo will one day be released (me too lol, could be funny)
In a version Mirabel was directly going to Bruno's tower
Mirabel is doing all of that to prove her worth to Abuela more than to save her family
Abuela is a complex character because she's the Abuela, she's the matriarch
She's not a true antagonist
She was one of the earliest characters
She was sometimes too antagonistic, and some other times not antagonistic enough
Dos Oruguitas was meant to make audience's heart understand Abuela better and feel her
The scene in the hideout was pretty difficult because you have to shift from a goofy scene to a sad discovery. At some point it was too sad (for example the scene were Bruno is talking to one of his rats I guess)
Waiting on a miracle is that big angsty teensy song where Mirabel is wondering if she belongs in the family
Abuela was 25 when she lost her husband
In the prologue Abuela is telling the story to Mirabel and gives out all of the hard parts, then it was interesting for the story to be retold through a different lens
Again, thank you @madrigaljail for the link!

what are your thoughts on loop and siffrin’s hangout in the tree? it always seemed excessively cruel imo, just to prove that sif dying wasn’t the only way to loop. i feel like there were other ways, so i guess i can’t understand completely understand why they would do it.
had loop not pointed out the party dying or had the party managed to beat the king w/o sif, do you think sif would have still looped? Or at the very least managed to make it to the next day?
Anon. are you my loop. afheiohfe LMFAO I'm just. amused by the question because yeah tbh I don't really like the Loop hangout either. I get critical under the cut, so this is only getting a spoilers tag.
I think Siffrin was going to loop then. They probably would have realized what the flash was, or even just realized that the time of day means either the party's made it to the King or things have already ended badly for them, and now they're down a fighter. Siffrin does try to cling to hope at times so I can see him trying to persuade himself that Mirabelle would know the shield, she'd know to shield even if he didn't warn her right??? so maybe they didn't instantly die! but again, they're down a fighter. Even if they win the fight, surely they'd hate him for abandoning them in the final hour. I think he'd give himself a panic attack out of worry and guilt and shame and loop. Loop just hurried it up, probably because they were already hating themself (which, this sure makes it rich for them to try to point out to Siffrin later in act 5 that he's being an ass for saying mean things to the party LOL).
If you want my thoughts. This isn't in the ISAT tag because the hangout is one of the low points of the game for me. It was the "oh, we're just doing shock value now" bit of my first playthrough. I didn't think it made sense then just because how does the party get to the King anyway (even if they can still beat/avoid all the sadnesses without Siffrin and avoid the rock trap/find all the keys because they're like. being more cautious with them gone, they only have a 1/6 chance of correctly choosing the right path on both floors 2 & 3 unless Loop is actively guiding them. Which is an idea I've seen people uncomfortable with, but Loop is purposefully setting them up to die anyway????), and how does Siffrin not realize sooner "hey wait this is going too long what's going to happen to my friends" and panic over that sooner, and nothing in the rest of the game really changed my thoughts on that. Considering Isabeau is right in Loop's potential sight YEAH I FEEL LIKE THEY COULD HAVE COME UP WITH DIFFERENT WAYS OF PROVING IT.
Also iiirc, in my first playthrough I'd already done the Bonnie sidequest of them freaking out at Siffrin and making them loop by this time. I get that the Bonnie sidequest is optional but like. That sure doesn't help with making this hangout feel like cheap shock value.
I think. What I would have liked better. Is if maybe Loop had been trying to do something else and they accidentally established this. Example:
Loop tells Siffrin from the very start they can tell their friends about this and brings the matter up again at act 3 start. Even though it didn't free them from the loops it DID make that one loop better for them when their friends knew something was wrong (they didn't die horribly, for one), so I think they're thinking if Stardust lets everyone in on the full truth, and sooner, maybe they can help somehow!!! Maybe Odile can solve it!!!! 'Why are us two idiots trying to solve this alone!!!' Loop's thinking, and Loop just really, really wants to get out of the loops. So like. imagine a ISAT sus run being a little more similar to a SASASA sus run and Loop specifically baiting them to do that, maybe by suggesting that since they always loop when talking to the Head Housemaiden the loop ends at a certain TIME, this is TIME craft stardust, hurry it up and maybe you'll see something useful besides the roof hm???
What Loop is hoping for: Stardust gets the nice little bit of his family comforting him and getting them to open up a little, they get to hurt themself watching it through them, Stardust realizes 'hey I should talk to my friends' and actually starts telling them about the time loop at the start so they can all work through the information together, they just needed more brain cells on the problem so THEY FIGURE OUT THE GD TIME LOOPS AND LOOP GETS TO BE FREE.
What actually happens: *looks at how the sus run goes in ISAT* also since this is already altering what a sus run requires and how it turns out you could also have Mirabelle on edge and unintentionally taking it out on Siffrin, or Isabeau being horrified if Siffrin finally confesses about the time loops under pressure from Odile and Siffrin assumes Isabeau's disgusted about him hiding this (and not realizing like. Isabeau is actually horrified that his friend's been dying? and trying to handle that alone??? SIF), basically like just make it accidentally turn into a train wreck of a scene for a takeaway of "huh. Siffrin loops back from being upset, too." And then Siffrin is further convinced opening up = always bad and just gets more and more set in I AM NOT BLINDING TELLING THEM.

💝what is a fic that got a different response than you were expecting?
I'm not sure! I guess the first fic I ever wrote, which was it's a heavy lift, really took me off-guard because I wasn't expecting anyone to read it and people did lol
🤍what's one fic of yours you think people didn't "get"?
I don't really have one, although I was really pleased with how many people took Mirabel's unreliable narration to heart in Birds of Paradise and didn't pick up on her being wrong about something in the plot until she herself did.
I have it very easy in my genre. I think if someone fails to "get" a fic that I wrote to be kid-appropriate, that's on me for not writing it clearly enough. I imagine I'd have lots of misinterpreted fics if I was writing, say, explicit romance, or hororr. 🤷‍♀️
🕯️was there a fic that was really hard on you to write, or took you to a place you didn't think it would take you?
Hold on. There's an old image on my computer I have to show you.
Tumblr media
One time I was lacking inspiration and I asked for prompts, and this is the sum total of all of the prompts that people gave to me. I meant to post this when I actually finished the fic they were for, but I forgot about it until now!
Annoyingly, most of these get referenced to some degree in Rumble Thy Bellyful!, but not that one by @youmaycallmeyourhighness. I wanted to have Alma or someone drop a line in response to Mirabel's interference like, "I knew we should have enrolled you in the Catholic boarding school in the city", and I totally forgot, and now it's too late. Damn.
Anyway, most of the prompts were quite interpersonal, so I took that as a sign to write a drama -- a story that revolved soley around the relationship between Dolores and Pepa framed through Mariano's perspective. Chapter 2 ends with this line--
They had no way, fortunately, of knowing how catastrophically wrong things would go.  It would start with the hurricane, and it would end with the gun.
I had no idea at the time of writing that the hurricane and gun were referring to. I wrote that line specifically because I realised I would run out of steam to write the fic if it didn't have some kind of action/adventure element, so I though it would be funny to trap myself in a corner in that way and find a wacky way out of it.
Thank you for asking :^)

🌻 Omg, Polar Express AU without Cocooned looks so cute! The Cocooned looked cute to begin with, but I'm a sucker for AUs where Mira has a reason to not have a gift or even just gets to have a gift, lol. You said you have a snippet already planned or made for it, so does this mean you have ideas set out for it? Basically, I have QUESTIONS.
How long does it take Augustín to realize that his Christmas Magic is what kept her from getting a Mardigal Gift? And does he ever reveal to Julietta any part of this, such as what he does every Christmas Eve or even just why her daughter doesn't have a gift when he figures it out? I have a thought that he would tell Juli only after she starts freaking out about why Mira has no gift (though in the privacy of their room, because she looks the type to only freak in her bedroom where she can stop being "the strong one").
RIGHT??? I LOVE AUS LIKE THAT TOO. Guilty pleasure tbh. I guess it just gives me the closure the movie never did (except in the one kids book where she DID have a door but shhhhh
ANYWAY YEAH I DO HAVE IDEAS❗❗ I think Julieta was the only one who knew. Agustín might have implied it to everyone else, but since he never explicitly stated it, they just. Assumed he really liked trains and Christmas 😭😭 He told Julieta because she didn't want her waking up on Christmas Eve and wondering where he went 🥸
He does sort of assume she might have it. But it's only ever confirmed when Agustín gives her a silver bell and she hears that stuff. Sure the other kids might hear it, but Miranda heard it the first time. So, he sort does some other things and makes the deduction that yes, she inherited Rojas Christmas Magic and not Madrigal Gift Magic❓❗
Tumblr media
An idea I had was Mirabel did get a room, but she also had a train she could summon (FAR smaller than the Polar Express; think of those trains they have at zoos or amusement parks). Basically she went around as a "conductor in training" and basically gave people rides to where they needed to go. Or just for fun. The trains makes its own tracks, cause magic, duh, but she can go just about anywhere with it.
Anyway, because I never expanded on this au. I never really had many ideas. But as you all know, I'M ALWAYS HAPPY TO SEE YOURS 🗣🗣🗣
A stupid. Joke I had in my mind was Mirabel would always ring the bell. And Alma would be like "what is that ringing???" Implying that she believed in Santa and Christmas lol

Do you think even thought Luisa and Isabela are 2 years apart they would still fight and rough-house with each other? I have lots of cousins that have a 2 year age difference and all of them fight and wrestling and it make me wonder if Isa and Luisa would ever do that….dumb siblings things…
I think the biggest difference is the character of both girls. Like, Isabela strikes me as that person that was a very committed older sister when she was a kid and for some years until Mirabel's failed ceremony, basically.
Luisa was 2 years younger and was quite lonely; I mean: Isabela and Dolores were the same age, and the 2+years age gap is quite big with small children, so I imagine they didn't have much in common at the time.
After Mirabel was born, though, I think all three of them might have been a chaotic trio and there might have been fights and so on, mostly about who's a better older sister to Mirabel and who is more liked by Mirabel lol I can easily imagine them fighting over it and competing with each other, and this getting like, pretty serious. To the point of tears and serious talk from the parents or something.
And then... When Mirabel's gift ceremony happened, I guess they just kinda drifted apart? Like, Luisa decided she would be the strong one because since Mirabel is giftless, she needs extra protection; meanwhile, Isabela got into that perfect persona we know from the movie.
So I think... Their relationship was quite distant and they didn't really fight when they were teens because 1) it seems like something Luisa would avoid at all costs and 2) they weren't close so there wasn't the opportunity to fight lol.
But post-movie girls? Yeah, I think they may have disagreements as they're learning to be close again and to be sisters again, basically. Though it most often ends up with Luisa in tears and Isabela either in tears too or feeling bad for making her younger sister cry and in reconciliation. Until Luisa decides one day she doesn't want Isabela's apologies/everything's fine and Isabela is just set up on actually giving her the apology Luisa deserves.
Hey, that last part is a nice fanfic idea, I think...
