How to Plan a Book for Spontaneous Overthinkers - Planning/Writing Tools
Heads-up: This post is a long boi. So I'll start by saying that I am not a published author. However, I have been writing for as long as I can remember and in the past 5 years or so have started taking it much more seriously. After 3 failed Nanowrimo (National Novel Writing Month Challenge) attempts and countless others on my own time, I think I have figured out the best way for me to plan my stories in a way that gives me a set plan without causing me to overthink about planning so writing isn't boring. This first post is literally just on tools I like to use.
Planning Tools
Seeing as how writing is a creative art, a lot of it is left to opinion. So here are my tastes, opinions, and suggestions for writing tools.
Find a Writing Tool You Enjoy: For me this has historically been a typewriter, a fountain pen and a nice sturdy hardcover notebook, or a dip glass pen and ink with a faux weathered journal I got on amazon. For some you may just prefer typing it out on a computer or using a ballpoint pen and a notebook.
If you like typing stuff out on a computer... Google Docs and LibreOffice are my go-tos if you just want a standard writing experience. Google Docs is one you most likely know and lets you store everything in the cloud, but I've noticed it makes my computer run a little slowly and I've had saving issues on multiple occasions since it doesn't have a manual save feature. LibreOffice, on the other hand, is an open-source dupe for Microsoft Office that is completely free, has more features than Google Docs, and lets you manually save. Plus, you'll never have any issues with your Wi-Fi going out and not being able to access your files. If you like being able to do a mix of typing and handwriting, I recommend using OneNote. Despite it being a Microsoft app, it's free and cross-compatible with mobile devices and computers (you do have to manually sync your notebooks sometimes). However, if you use an art tablet with your computer or just a standard touch-screen tablet and a stylus, you can sketch, handwrite, and type all in the same document easily. I use OneNote for most of my planning.
If you like unique or old-fashioned writing tools... Glass or metal dip pens are a fun choice. You do have to do some personal research though based on how you want to write though. For example, I bought a glass dip pen because it had a little bit of a scratchier vibe that I enjoyed and was also better suited for writing in cursive and drawing little doodles when my brain needed a writing break. I got mine on amazon and the brand is called "Freedom of the Starry Sky" It came with a beautiful ink, a carrying case, and a little glass stand to rest the pen on. I don't have any specific recommendations for metal dip pens however. If you want an ink recommendation, however, I use and love the Windsor & Newton Black India Ink, which I got on amazon for about $7. It's great, and its water based so all you have to do to clean the residue off your pen is let it sit in some warm water for a minute and wipe it off.
If you want a typewriter... I am very autistic and typewriters are a special interest of mine so I'll try to keep this brief (spoiler alert, I failed). This isn't the cheapest option by a long shot but I love my typewriter with all my heart so I figured it should be included. Here's my tips: look on Ebay, Mercari, and Facebook Marketplace and try to find one in your budget that is at least mostly functional (my old girl is from the 40s and ribbon doesn't advance but I love her anyway). If you're going to be working at a desk, get a desktop model, but if you're like me and have no clue where you want to type, find one that is portable WITH CASE INCLUDED. Trust me you do not want to be looking for a typewriter case for a vintage typewriter online. Next, determine if you want/need a quieter model. Typewriters will never be silent, but some are made to muffle more noise than others. There is a YouTube channel called Jot and Tittle and they make demos of vintage typewriters where you can hear how loud they are and see how they are to work with. So if you find a specific model you're considering buying, make sure to check there to see if the keys are the right amount of clicky and the write amount of clacky for your needs. You'll also need to find ink ribbon, which you can easily find on ebay. If you have any questions or need to do/have a repair done, I recommend r/typewriters on reddit or finding a typewriter repair shop or other forum online.
Other Things I Recommend:
Random Generators: Whether it be for writing prompts, opening lines, names of any kind you can possibly think of, settings and locations, or really anything, I promise there is a random generator for you. For all things names (locations or people), I use Fantasy Name Generators, but anything you can think of has a generator online if you look.
Baby Name Websites: Sometimes you want a unique but realistic character name and you want to include the meaning or have the meaning of the name be an integral part of the story. If that's you, go to baby name websites. Most of them let you search by meaning or even pick a name you like (for example, a character whose name you like) and find similar names easily.
AI Story Generators: For the love of all that is holy, unholy, or right in the middle, do not publish or post anything written by AI and call it your own. However, if you can't decide how to write a scene or if you need a way to start the next chapter, or anything like that, use an AI generator and EDIT it afterwards. Most of these programs are subscription based or have a free trial or have a limited amount of generations per month, just so you know.
So that's all I have to say on this specific topic, but as soon as I finish this post I will be working on writing the next post on genres and genre expectations using the genres of my own current novel I'm planning as examples, so be sure to check that out if interested. Have a great day and please comment if you have any questions or if you're not going to be an ass. Thanks!

Read All About It
I remember when I was a kid. All we had was black-and-white television and a few channels. There were no video game consoles, no Netflix, no VCRs or DVDs. Sure, I had toys, but you can only play with them for so long.
So my parents bought me books. I plowed through books like a snowblower through a Chicago blizzard. Biographies. History. Hardy Boys mysteries. I just wonder if my love for books, which has continued through to adulthood, would have been different had I been reading them on an electronic device.
We are about to find out now how kids respond thanks to the new Amazon Kindle Kids reader.
Tumblr media
At $109 (and $20 more than the cheapest standard Kindle reader), the Kids model comes with a colorful case as well as access to a collection of kids e-books. It is a pretty cheap device, although it certainly falls outside of the budget of our nation’s poorest. In other words, kids in the nicest suburbs might find this under the tree this Christmas.
I’m not criticizing, because all the cool stuff costs money. It’s just that this might be yet another example of a digital divide that has plagued us ever since the internet, computers, and smartphones came of age. Not everyone gets to play.
As for me, had my parents bought me an e-book device 50 or more years ago, I can only speculate about how much I would have used it. Like everyone else my age, I grew up with both tangible books, and then evolved into a modern high-tech citizen. I have owned three different iPads since 2010 and a first-generation Kindle before them, and I have tried reading books on these handy tablets.
You know what? I didn’t like it. I like the tactile experience of holding a book, of turning the pages, smelling the paper and ink, placing a bookmark when I put down the book to go to sleep. I like seeing books on my shelves. In fact, I rather like lying on the sofa or in bed when I read, knowing that reading is precursor to a nap or turning in for the night. You just can’t do that with a tablet, and I sure as heck don’t want to accidentally fall asleep with it in hand, because it will invariably wind up on the floor.
On the other hand, were the Kindle the only reading experience I ever had, things may have been different. I wouldn’t have a benchmark comparison, and the only tactile experience would be holding the device. If you have not known anything else, is it possible that holding a tablet becomes the de facto norm for an entire generation?
Probably, and Amazon is banking on it.
Of course, you can still buy plenty of tangible books. I spent an hour at Barnes & Noble last night just looking for something to leap out at me (it did). It is not at all the same experience perusing an electronic library and then wishing you could flip through the pages.
I have already done my duties raising two girls. They had both options available to them, tangible books and iPads. One doesn’t read much while the other does, and she actually prefers old-school books. Amazon, though, is doubling down with the Kindle Kids, hoping that it becomes the preferred medium for a new generation of readers. It has provided a product that, while not affordable for all, is still within the reach of many.
I’m just sad they might never experience what it feels like to read a real book, one you can touch, one you can smell. That, for me, is part of the price of admission, the unwritten and unpublished opening and closing chapters that provide context for the words within.
I’ll fight you for the sofa.

How to Get a Peloton-Style Workout Without Splurging Lisa Whitney, a dietitian in Reno, Nev., came across the deal of a lifetime about two years ago. A fitness studio was going out of business and selling its equipment. She scored an indoor exercise bike for $100. Ms. Whitney soon made some additions to the bike. She propped her iPad on the handlebars. Then she experimented with online cycling classes streamed on YouTube and on the app for Peloton, a maker of internet-connected exercise devices that offers interactive fitness classes. Ms. Whitney had no desire to upgrade to one of Peloton’s $1,900-plus luxury exercise bikes, which include a tablet to stream classes and sensors that track your speed and heart rate. So she further modified her bike to become a do-it-yourself Peloton, buying sensors and indoor cycling shoes. The grand total: about $300, plus a $13 monthly subscription to Peloton’s app. Not cheap, but a significant discount to what she might have paid. “I’m happy with my setup,” Ms. Whitney, 42, said. “I really don’t think upgrading would do much.” The pandemic, which has forced many gyms to shut down, has driven hordes of people to splurge on luxury items like Peloton’s bikes and treadmills so they can work out at home. Capitalizing on this trend, Apple last year released Apple Fitness Plus, an instructional fitness app that is exclusively offered to people who own an Apple Watch, which requires an iPhone to work. But all of that can be expensive. The minimum prices of an Apple Watch and iPhone add up to $600, and Apple Fitness Plus costs $10 a month. Then to stream classes on a big-screen TV instead of a phone while you exercise, you need a streaming device such as an Apple TV, which costs about $150. The full Peloton experience is even pricier. With the economy in a funk, many of us are trying to tighten our spending while maintaining good health. So I experimented with how to minimize the costs of doing video-instructed workouts at home, talked to tinkerers and assessed the pros and cons. Here’s what I learned. The Pros and Cons of Free To start my experiment for working out at home on the cheap, the first question I tackled was whether to subscribe to a fitness app or stream classes from YouTube for free. Both largely provide videos of instructors guiding you through workouts. So I bought an $8 yoga mat and a $70 pair of adjustable dumbbells and turned on my TV, which includes the YouTube app. I then subscribed to three of the most popular YouTube channels that have free content for exercising at home: Yoga With Adriene, Fitness Blender and Holly Dolke. One immediate downside was almost too much content — often hundreds of videos per YouTuber — making it difficult to pick a workout. Even when I finally chose a video, I learned I had to brace myself for some quality issues. In the Yoga With Adriene channel, for instance, I selected the video “Yoga for When You Feel Dead Inside,” which felt appropriate for the time we are living in. The video looked good, but at times the instructor’s voice sounded muffled. Production problems were more visible in the Holly Dolke channel, which has a collection of intense workouts that you can do without any equipment. When I tried the video “Muffin Top Melter,” an instructor in the background demonstrated how to do a more challenging version of each exercise, but the other instructor, in the foreground, constantly blocked her. Then there were the ads. As I lifted weights while following a 10-minute fat-burning workout from Fitness Blender, YouTube interrupted the video to play an ad for Dawn soap. That left me holding a dumbbell above the back of my neck while I waited for the ad to end. Those issues aside, I was able to do all of the exercises demonstrated by these YouTubers, and they left me winded and sweaty. For the cost of free, I can’t complain much. Most important, Yoga With Adriene succeeded in making me feel less dead inside. What You Get When You Pay To compare the free YouTube exercise videos with the paid experience, I subscribed to Peloton and Apple Fitness Plus on my Apple TV set-top box. I did workouts using both products for the last two months. Peloton and Apple Fitness Plus addressed many of the problems plaguing the free exercise content. For one, workouts were organized into categories by the type of workout, including yoga, strength training and core, and then by the difficulty or duration of the workout. It took little time to choose a workout. In both Peloton and Apple Fitness Plus, video and audio quality were very clear, and the workouts were shot at various angles to get a good look at what the instructors were doing. The bonus of Fitness Plus was that my heart rate and calories burned were displayed on both my Apple Watch and the TV screen. In short, paying those subscriptions provided convenience and polish, which led to a more pleasant workout. I concluded that Peloton’s videos were worth paying $13 a month. And $10 a month is reasonable for Apple Fitness Plus, but only if you already have an Apple Watch and iPhone. Making a D.I.Y. Peloton So what about exercise equipment like spin bikes? If you want the tech frills of a Peloton but don’t want to spend on the equipment, there were two main approaches. To go the cheapest route, you can make use of a bicycle you already have. Here’s where home tinkerers can be especially crafty and resourceful. Take Omar Sultan, a manager at the networking company Cisco. He modified his road bike with a few add-ons: a bike trainer, which secured the rear wheel and bike frame and costs roughly $100; a $40 Wahoo cadence sensor that tracked his energy output and speed and transmitted the data to a smartphone; and a heart rate monitor that strapped around his chest, such as the $90 Polar H10. Then he used a streaming device to follow Peloton classes on his TV. “The D.I.Y. setup is 80 percent of the way there” to a Peloton, Mr. Sultan said. The more expensive option was to buy an indoor exercise bike and use a tablet or phone to stream cycling classes via YouTube or the Peloton app, as Ms. Whitney did. The $700 IC7.9, for example, includes a cadence sensor and a holder for your tablet. You could then buy a heart rate monitor and a pair of $100 indoor cycling shoes that clip into the pedals. But if you use your own bicycle or a modified spin bike and try Peloton’s app, you won’t be able to participate in the app’s so-called leader board, which shows a graphic of your progress compared with other Peloton users online. With a D.I.Y. bike, it can also be difficult to figure out how to shift gears to simulate when the instructor is telling you to turn up the resistance — like when you are pretending to ride up a hill. Nicole Odya, a nurse practitioner in Chicago who modified a high-end indoor bike, the Keiser M3i, said there were major upsides to the D.I.Y. route. Using her own iPad, she has the flexibility to choose whatever fitness apps she wants to use, such as Zwift and mPaceLine. It also gave her the freedom to customize her bike, so she swapped out the stock pedals for better ones. “I didn’t want to be locked into their platform,” she said of Peloton. XP-Pen Artist 10S v2
Yeah... that’s a mouthful ain’t it?
I recently got myself a graphics tablet... with a SCREEN!! I’ve been wanting one of those since I knew they existed, but for the longest time only the insanely-priced Cintiqs were available.
Tumblr media
In recent years, it turns out, other manufacturers have branched into screened graphics tablets also--slowly bringing down the price to an attainable level.
I got my Artist 10S for £199.99 from Amazon. Let me tell you how it went.
From the Top
I have done art before. I was half-decent at it when I was around 10 or so. But it’s been a while. I got myself a decent “dotted” sketchbook and started sketching things out in it to run my RPG sessions. That’s really what gave me the bug to get into drawing again. And to actually buy a tablet to do so!
I downloaded Krita, a free Photoshop-like application for artists. It’s super-powerful, once you figure out how it works. But there are plenty of tutorials online about that if you’re interested in checking it out.
...But anyway, Krita has some nice smoothing algorithms you can turn on for drawing with a pen tablet. The pen doesn’t have tilt and rotation detection, but pressure sensitivity works well with Krita and gives me plenty of expressiveness to get on with. And I was pretty instantly busting out some sweet curves!
It was a pretty amazing experience, really--getting to draw freehand while also having the capability of undo, erase, etc. I’m not saying it brought a tear to my eye, but it was a nice moment.  😂
Tumblr media
Config
The tablet has 6 “Express Keys” along the side, which are configurable to key combinations. When you hold them down, that key is held down (this’ll become important later). I currently have them set to things like canvas pan/zoom/rotate, and a couple of other “hold to use” shortcuts.
The pen is somewhat triangular along the barrel, meaning it won’t roll around on your desk. But it’s smoothed out enough to feel just fine in your hand. It has two barrel buttons, though these are only configurable to mouse various clicks and a preset “brush/eraser” toggle (which didn’t work with Krita out of the box). There is no “eraser” button at the other end (like a pencil with an eraser at the other end)... but I’d find that too fiddly and time consuming to flip it around anyway.
The lack of options for the pen is a little disappointing. Things like this are insanely easy to implement in code--as demonstrated by the express key options. So there’s not really any excuse for it other than the company being small, and this product originally belonging to a different company XP-Pen... bought out or something? I dunno. We’ll get onto them in due course.
Oh, a little side note... the configuration app is only readily accessible from a system tray icon (in Windows). This is fine when you first install the drivers. (And then install the updated drivers so the tablet actually works.) But it has a habit of just... disappearing. After Hibernation or Sleep, that icon tends to wander off somewhere.
And all XP-Pen have to say on that score is to give instructions on how to make it appear again--which only works half the time and may require a restart anyway. I’ve since figured out where the config application itself is kept, and made a shortcut to it in my start menu. In case anyone else is having the same troubles as me, here’s the file path: “C:\Windows\SysWOW64\tabcfg.exe”
Tumblr media
Screen
This tablet has a screen! Still getting over that XD
The screen is only 10.1″ corner to corner, which is a little smaller than the average screen tablet such as the Cintiqs. But it’s plenty big enough when it’s sitting right in front of your for actual drawing.
Another reason I pulled the trigger on buying one of these is to get a second screen. I often watch various Youtube videos in the background while I’m playing games and whatnot. I used to prop my Chromebook up next to my regular monitor. This worked fine, but pausing everything when someone came in to speak to me (just a politeness thing I like to employ; nothing sneaky going on)... was a bit of a hassle. And balancing the audio between devices had its own fiddliness (besides the piddly Chromebook speakers not being able to get loud enough for quieter videos).
But now, with two monitors hooked up to the same computer, everything’s a lot easier. I can move windows between screens easily enough. And pausing a video is as simple as moving the mouse over to the other screen and clicking.
Tumblr media
Colour Calibration
However! I am having some trouble with the colours. I was drawing away just fine, a simple cartoon character to try out the shading tools and so on and get used to Krita. Then for whatever reason, I saw the picture on my main monitor. The skin tone was way off--too red for what I was actually going for. It seems the tablet screen likes to give everything a yellow tint--making picking colours pretty tricky.
I’ve tried keeping a preview window open on my main monitor so I can see the “true” colours, but this is really not conducive to a productive work space. Or something ^^
I spend a few days trying to configure the colour management side of things from Windows and NVIDIA (the tablet has back light brightness buttons and that’s it)... but it’s just darned fiddly! I can never quite be sure if it looks right or not--or if both screens at least look similar. All I want is a “click on a colour on the screen, and remove some yellowness from it.” You wouldn’t have thought it would be that hard to do, would you?
But instead I had to use gamma, brightness, and contrast sliders. I think I get brightness and contrast... and I thought I knew what gamma was. But it just never turns out quite how I expect. All I want is a step-by-step tutorial on “First, get your gamma correct across all colours. Here’s how you do that...” And so on and so forth.
There are plenty of test-card images out there, which are a good start. But nothing giving you a list of instructions.
See, if you fix the brightness and contrast, it doesn’t necessarily mean things look right. So then you mess with the gamma and nothing makes sense any more. It seems as though you need to adjust all 3 at the same time to be sure you’re actually making any progress.
I even had a Windows bug where my colours wouldn’t stick. I had to create a new user account (with all the headaches of setting things up all over again) just to fix that issue and make any progress whatsoever!
/sigh/
And this doesn’t even talk about the contrast issues it already has. No matter what I do, it’s too bright in some areas and too dark in others. And with my colours fixed the way they are now, they look closer to my main monitor but not perfect. And they make some things just look a tad awful, across the board.
I’m managing, though. Using it for art--at least black and white art--is great, and as long as I focus on the tablet itself, the colours work just fine.
I did contact XP-Pen, to see if they had a solution. Most companies allow you to download an .icc file--a colour profile so the computer can correct a monitor’s output perfectly--but they just straight-up don’t. After 3 workdays of waiting, they told me to use Windows’ built-in calibration tools--which of course I’d been bashing my head against for the past week.
In case anyone else is having similar colour problems, I’ll give you the settings I used to half-fix it. Note that this is far from perfect, but it certainly seems a lot better than it was before, to my eye.
As I have an NVIDIA graphics card, I used their control panel to change the settings to the following values:
Red: 85% Brightness, 25% Contrast, 0.69 Gamma.
Green: 62% Brightness, 25% Contrast, 0.89 Gamma.
Blue: 90% Brightness, 25% Contrast, 0.72 Gamma.
I think the “All channels” part is just an average of the 3 colours. But in case it’s not...
All channels: 77% Brightness, 25% Contrast, 0.76 Gamma.
Tumblr media
XP-Pen
That brings me onto the company itself. From what I understand, they’re a small company out of China? Or maybe the US? Or both? It’s really hard to tell from their website.
But anyway... I can only assume they’re too small a company to really provide decent support for their products. The response time is way too high, considering the price tags attached to their products. And the “shrug” attitude instead of providing solutions didn’t go down well with me.
Now, there are devices out there that calibrate a screen for you. The cheapest I could find is £90, and comes with a single-computer license. And that’s fair enough; most people don’t need them, and the ones that really need them are photography professionals who have to be willing to shell out some cash or produce poor work. But I’d prefer not to have to get one just to use it once and never look at it again.
The thing is, with this calibration thing, XP-Pen saying something very telling to the customer. They aren’t willing to get a calibration tool themselves, use it on a tablet, and make the resulting .icc file available for all of their customers to use--at least as a good starting point. Instead, they insist that each individual customer buys one themselves if they want any hope of getting relatively accurate colours from their purchase.
I may contact them again, to point this out to them. I mean, it may be that my unit is simply faulty and should be replaced... but then it should be replaced.
/sigh again/
Overall
I am happy with using the tablet. The tech is amazing, for the price. But such a lack of support is really dragging down the experience.
I highly recommend getting a screen tablet. If not this one, then perhaps another. Maybe your Artist 10S won’t have this issue at all and it’ll be perfect right off the bat.
It’s so awesome to be able to draw on your screen, and has really helped me get back into art-ing. I can already see improvement in my skill over the past week, through drawing every day after such a long time not drawing at all!

Cable TV Price in Nigeria 2019
Tumblr media
Cable TV is an important aspect of Nigerian society as it is not only a source of entertainment but also a source of learning. Today, you can easily find the antennas or dish of several cable TV operators hanging on the roofs or poles of buildings. The service is also a plus to the Nigerian economy as several foreign operators (like Startimes from China) turn sights to the Nigerian market to invest. In this article, I will review the prices of cable TV in Nigeria and list several popular service providers. I will be focusing on the popular ones only as they are more trusted and provide better services compared to the unpopular ones. They also have better signal strength which makes them a better choice.   History of Cable TV in Nigeria Cable TV has gone a long way ever since the first Nigerian TV station, Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), began broadcasting in 1959. Back in the days, most Nigerians were limited to only viewing local channels like NTA and had to battle with poor signals when the weather is bad. Cable TV was also quite expensive and could only be afforded by the high class and a section of the middle class. Some years later, the first few local and international channels were introduced, but this improvement brought several problems. Most people still had to battle with poor signals and many more were unable to subscribe to these new channels as telecommunication channels were still underdeveloped at that time. The introduction of DStv into the Nigerian market in 1995 marked the beginning of astonishing improvement as DStv stormed the Nigerian market with top quality picture and sound and strong signals to meet the entertainment needs of the Nigerian market. However, DStv slammed heavy price tags on its services which meant low and middle-income earners wouldn’t be able to get access to its service. These set of Nigerians had to turn to local operators and were subjected to poor signals and service. Hope came for Nigerians when Startimes was introduced in 2010. Startimes was the reply to the request for affordable cable TV in Nigeria. They also had a high-quality service and signal strength which made them quite popular in the Nigerian market. The introduction and success of Startimes in the Nigerian market saw the rise of more affordable operators who looked to acquire a large customer base, especially among the low and middle-income earners. Today, almost anyone can afford quality cable TV in Nigeria as these affordable operators keep dishing out several packages to ensure that no Nigerian, irrespective of his/her income level, is left out.   Cable TV Providers in Nigeria The last decade has seen several cable TV providers rise to take their share from the large Nigerian market. These operators mostly follow the same strategy enticing potential customers with promises of more affordable and high-quality service. However, only a few have been able to gain the favour of the market and have continuously retained their position as market leaders. Below, I am going to list these companies, the prices of their decoders, their subscription packages and costs. 1. DStv DStv was the first high-quality TV operator to storm the Nigerian market. Originating from South Africa where it controlled a large market base, the company came with promises that it has kept till date. Today, it still remains one of the best options to consider in Nigeria. This is because it provides access to a large number of channels (186 in total) which is unrivalled by any other operator in Nigeria. DStv also has several packages tailored to suit the need of every viewer. Today, low and middle-income earners can afford to own a DStv decoder and subscribe to its packages.   Prices of DStv Decoders in Nigeria DStv introduced two types of decoders; DStv Explora and DStv HD decoders. While they both provide access to every channel in the DStv directory, one of the decoders posses some features that make viewing a little more convenient. The DStv Explora decoder allows you to record programs, pause/play/rewind shows, rent blockbuster movies, and gain access to the DStv Catch Up feature. Prices of DStv Explora Decoder in Nigeria DStv Explora (with DStv Compact Subscription) --- N54,000 – N56,000 DStv Explora (with DStv Compact Plus Subscription) --- N63,000 – N65,000 DStv Explora (with DStv Premium Subscription) --- N64,000 – N66,000 Prices of DStv HD Decoders in Nigeria DStv HD (with DStv Compact Subscription) --- N10,000 – N15,000 DStv HD (with DStv Compact Plus Subscription) --- N14,000 – N18,000 DStv HD (with DStv Premium Subscription) --- N19,000 – N22,000   2. Startimes Startimes was one of the first few affordable cable TV service providers to storm the Nigerian market. Although it cannot boast of the same picture and sound quality as that of DStv, it is just good enough to attract low and middle-income Nigerians. The TV operator doesn't have the same number of channels or a good number of international channels like DStv, but you will be quite entertained as it has a good number of movie, sports, news, and music channels both local and international.   Prices of Startimes Decoders in Nigeria Just like DStv, Startimes released several decoders which all provide access to every channel the company offers. The differences between the decoders are the picture and sound quality and the signal strength. Below are the prices of Startimes decoders in Nigeria Startimes SD Decoder --- N7,000 – N10,000 Startimes HD Decoder --- N8,000 – N13,000 Startimes 2 in 1 Combo Decoder --- N12,000 – N14,000 Startimes provides one of the cheapest subscription packages which provides you access to all 80 channels in the Startimes directory. Their cheapest package costs just N900 per month and provides you access to 26 channels. If you want to gain access to all 80 channels, then you would have to opt for their premium package which costs about N4,800 per month.   3. GOtv GOtv is a more affordable version of DStv and Multichoice’s answer to the request for a more affordable service by low and middle-income earners. GOtv features some of the premium content you can find on DStv including top sports channels like Supersports. However, you wouldn’t be able to get other amazing functions like the program recording, pause/play/rewind feature and the DStv Catch Up feature on the GOtv decoder.   Prices of GOtv Decoders in Nigeria GOtv Decoder --- N6,900 – N8,000 When buying your decoder, you will be given a setup box which contains your GOtv decoder (with 1-month GOtv max subscription), a remote, an antenna and a setup manual. GOtv offers one of the cheapest subscription packages which is arguably the best and most affordable among all cable TV operators in Nigeria. Its GOtv Lite package provides you access to 25 channels for just N400 per month. This is much better than Startimes Nova bouquet, which gives you access to 26 channels for N900 per month. Its most expensive package, GOtv Max package, will cost you just N3,200 for access to all 75 channels in the GOtv directory.   4. TStv TStv is one of the recent Cable TV operators on the market, and it is fast growing. It is quite unique as it offers a different kind of subscription system, which makes it easier for viewers to subscribe to the service. The company also offers several premium features you can only find in decoders of top operators like DStv. One of such features is the program recording feature, which allows you to record programs and store them in your decoder. Another interesting feature is its pause/play feature, which enables you to pause and continue shows, movies, music and any other channel category of your choice at your convenience.   Prices of TStv Decoders in Nigeria Although the company stormed the Nigerian market with many promises, the fact that it required viewers to install a dish to get a good signal presented some drawbacks. Below are the prices of TStv decoders in Nigeria including the cost of installation of the dish and decoder. TStv Decoder --- N5,000 – N6,000 TStv Decoder (with installation) --- N12,000 – N15,000   TStv Subscription Packages and Prices This TV service provider operates one of the most flexible subscription systems and allocates a certain amount of data to its users. The amount of data you will receive depends on the type of package you subscribe to. This data can be accessed by your phone’s wifi when connected to the hotspot on the decoder. Package Data Price Daily 500MB N200 3 days 1GB N500 Weekly 2GB N750 10 Days 3GB N1,000 2 Weeks 5GB N1,500 Monthly 10GB N3,000   5. Kwese TV Kwese TV is a new Digital Terrestrial TV (DTTV) service provider in Africa and Nigeria. The service launched in Nigeria in 2017 and sought to overtake market leaders in Cable TV. Kwese TV is quite similar to smaller cable TV service providers like TStv, Startimes, and GOtv. As of the time of compiling this article, the TV operator only offers about 50 channels. However, Kwese is quite different from other cable TV operators as it allows you to access content on over 5 devices (like Smartphones, laptops, tablets, etc) when you subscribe to any of its packages.   Prices of Kwese TV Decoders in Nigeria Kwese comes with a satellite dish which makes it more expensive upfront. You will also have to consider installation costs when settling for this option. When buying a Kwese decoder, you will be given the Kwese TV Starter Pack. This starter pack contains a Kwese decoder, satellite dish, installation manual and 1-month access to all Kwese TV’s 50+ channels. You can also buy the decoder only, which would cost less compared to buying it with the starter pack. Kwese TV Decoder --- N6,000 – N7,000 Kwese TV Starter Pack --- N11,000 – N12,000   Kwese TV Packages and Subscription Costs For access to all the 50+ channels in the Kwese TV directory, you will have to pay a subscription fee of N6,275. However, it also offers a flexible subscription payment system. Kwese TV Monthly Package --- N6,275 Kwese TV Weekly Package --- N1,850 Kwese TV 3 days Package --- N990   6. MyTV MyTV is one of the oldest cable TV operators in Nigeria but not among the top 5 when it comes to quality and the number of channels it offers. Nevertheless, it is still a good option to consider. MyTV Decoder ---- N7,000 – N10,000   Where to Buy Cable TV Decoders in Nigeria Different operators offer different means for potential customers to purchase their products.   From their websites Some operators provide an option to purchase their decoders directly from their official website. You can make payments on the website and the decoder will be delivered to your location.   From Dealers Most of the companies have several dealers who sell their products. You can easily find dealers of popular brands in any electronic market or store around you. However, if you are unable to locate one within your vicinity, simply log on to the company's website and locate the "find a dealer" option. You may be required to type in your country and city and a list of dealers within your location will be shown to you.   From Online Shopping Sites Online shopping sites like Jumia and Konga offer decoders for sale. Each online store in Nigeria has its modus operandi; some may only allow you to make payment for the decoder before delivery while others may allow payment after delivery. Visa Exit to Oman ( Bus experience )
UAE has been the 1st, 2nd or 3rd or probably the 2nd to the last place where Pinoys flock to find a better opportunity. With the recent challenge facing the oil-producing countries, there has been a significant change in terms of career opportunities in the UAE. Like most Pinoys who tried their luck in UAE, I am one of those who seemed to have run out of luck and also ran out of time. My 3-month visa has expired without me landing on a job. My relatives advised me to instead of going back to my country, just apply for another long-term visa and try again(and due to the fact that it is cheaper)…only, do better at finding a job.
Tumblr media
I asked a few favors from my loved ones to help me out in securing another long-term UAE visit visa (I thank God for their good heart) and one responded positively. My sister reached out to their contacts who deals with travel documents and stuff. There are 3 options that most agencies provide; you got the Airport-to-Airport, Armenia and the Oman exit. (Consult your travel agent for the information of these exit options). The Oman exit was chosen for me because it is relatively cheaper than the two previous packages. There are 2 ways to exit out of the UAE via Oman and that is by bus or plane. So we chose the Bus ride to Oman.  It is much cheaper so it seems (about 1400+ AED more or less depending on your travel agency) than the airplane option. Out of curiosity, I tried searching online about the visa exit via Oman by land but most information available in the internet are people who have cars and they do half of the visa process themselves. Some information I picked up are complaints found in social media reviews of hotels that were used by previous exiting UAE tourist which doesn’t really help. So, this blog will stick only to my experience with the bus ride option. I read somewhere it is called the Oman Visa Run.
Travel agencies will advertise that your UAE tourist (visit) visa can be processed within 24-48 hours (depends on the day it was processed of course especially when it falls close to a weekend or a holiday) no matter which exit you choose. Typical agency information are the cost, requirements, some other information, disclaimers etc. What they don’t really divulge even in their disclaimer (intentional or unintentional, or probably they failed to elaborate or we forgot to ask, God knows) is the possibility that you might get stuck for a number of days even if you get your visa approved within 24-48 hour time frame. Being the cheapest among their package, it consist of a bus ride from Reef Mall to Oman, Omani Visit Visa, UAE Visa processing and a return ride back to Dubai.  They did advise that the accommodation and food is not included in the package. I thought of getting myself some easy to cook meals as I am somehow a bit confident with my agency that I will not stay for more than 3 days in Oman. I did mention the reviews of hotels frequently recommended by travel agencies in Al Buraimi. I must admit, the reviews and complaints does gave me a bit of scare. The fear of being stranded in a foreign country is not something you would wish to be a reality. So everything was set, bills are paid, schedules are given but instructions and directions are not really clear. Other information I got is that the last trip for this kind of exit is Wednesday. I guess the best adventures are those without itineraries so I went with it. I asked what hotel they are recommending for me to stay for 3 days and 2 nights. They told me that Al Buraimi Hotel is where I can stay for 50 AED/day.
I was instructed to come to Reef Mall parking lot in Deira, Dubai on Sunday at 11 am. I did my best to come on time and messaged the agent that I might be 20-30 minutes late.  I am conscious of my punctuality because I am expecting a lot of people who might be waiting for the bus to depart on time. It would be embarrassing if I am the reason why it is being held up or worst be left out. To my surprise, the agent seems to not mind and told me that there will still be final checks to be done after 11am. I arrived at 11:20 am and went to ALL parking lots inside and outside looking for groups of people and buses bound to Oman. I found the group at the outside parking lot on the side of Reef Mall basking in the 40+ degree heat waiting for their ride. I went and ask a few Kabayans about the bus bound to Oman and each of them provided different answers. I messaged again the agent and my sister, to verify if I am in the right place. Turns out, all of the people in the parking lot are going to the same destination but on different routes. One bus will be for those who will take the airplane to Oman and two will be to the Hatta border by bus. We waited for almost 3-4 hours for the driver and PROs sorting out and transferring some passengers to one bus to the other. When everything were all sorted out, We were then provided with Omani visas in our seats.
Oman Visa
Though not all passengers received their documents, we were told that the other visas was at the border and someone will meet us there. We were cautioned about the prohibited items in the border. Medicines other than Panadol and prescription drugs (provided that you can present the prescription) are not allowed in the border and….condoms.
The bus left Reef Mall at past 3pm. The bus ride has its visual perks as you go past sand dunes and mountain ranges in Ras Al Khaima and Sharjah.

Tumblr media
We had to stop near the Hatta border to get the remaining Omani visas for those who did not receive it earlier in Deira. We arrived at the border with the sun barely setting on the horizon. Entering the Hatta border, signs warn all people to not take photos or videos of the border. But being Pinoys, most of us can’t help but take selfies and groupies of the place and no one seemed to care. We stopped and got off the bus to get an exit stamp for our UAE visa and passport. By the way, there is a 35 AED charge for the exit stamp which the driver collected during our stop near the border. Payment for over-staying tourist is also done at the Hatta border. We proceeded to the Omani immigration office a few miles from the Hatta border for our Oman entry stamp. Then we went to another stop just a few meters from the immigration office for inspection of our bags and luggage. The border police also boarded the bus and checked for any prohibited items left and as luck would have it, they did found paracetamol tablets and 3 packs of condom in the overhead baggage bin. The border police asked the person seated on the spot where the items were found. He did admit on bringing tablets because he is not feeling well but denied bringing the condoms. He also thought that he threw the tablets away just before we left Dubai. There were a lot of discussions but due to the fact that the items were found in the bus bin and not in his personal possession, the border police let it slide with a stern warning. A friendly reminder to all Kabayans who has medical conditions needing their maintenance meds, please bring your prescription. The only headache or Paracetamol tablet they would allow is the Panadol brand. Other than that, please do not insist on anything else, lest you want to be turned back to UAE or worst, jail time. Another stop again is where a border police came in and suppose to check our faces against the passport picture. The guy just went in and looked at everyone and that’s it. Then we went on in an almost 1 hour ride to Al Buraimi. The bus stopped on a roadside café and restaurant so we can at least have something to eat. I tried their chicken shawarma for 5 AED. It wasn’t bad and there is no other meat choice anyway. I got used to the Philippine version of shawarma where the only choice is beef but the shawarma here has some good tasting spices in it. After an hour, we continued the journey to Al Buraimi Hotel and arrived at around 11 pm.
📷 Al Buraimi Hotel
Tumblr media
Al Buraimi hotel is one of dozen hotels by the roadside of Sohar-Salalah Road in Oman. The bus driver then cautioned us to let the women got off first and the guys went out last. We went to the reception area located behind the hotel. I think this reception area was really for exiting tourist as there is a real reception area at the front lobby of the hotel for real guests. We went in and they took our passports and were asked to pay  on the spot, 150 dirhams for 3 days and 2 nights stay. Receipts can be claimed on the following day. If you’re asking about a refund in case you only stayed for less than 3 days, sorry to disappoint you but there is none. The women were first taken to their accommodations and a couple of hotel staff took us to a room upstairs right behind the hotel. Based on what I read about this hotel, I didn’t really expect much but I was taken aback on how filthy-looking the actual “room” looked like (picture below). Walking inside the semi-lit room, there are about 20 or more bunk beds lined in 3 rows across the room. The room is actually big because it used to be a bar re-purposed to become a makeshift hostel but  it looked like more of a barracks. Looking around you’ll see extension cords sprawled on the sides of the room with gadgets stuck on them. We found a lot of Kabayan guests who are also waiting for their UAE visa since last week and welcomed us inside. One more thing, once you crossed the border, your UAE mobile network signal will no longer be available. Good news is there is FREE Wi-Fi! Bad news is, with about 50 or more people connected to a 3Mbps bandwidth, you cannot expect a decent speed of connection. You can choose to enable your UAE mobile network’s roaming option which I guess is another charge on top of your monthly mobile package. The bathroom is downstairs with 2 showers, 1 toilet seat and 2 urinals which pretty much is a public toilet. Inside the room, cleaners went in carrying pillows, woolly blankets and linens and asked us to pick one of each. Being tired and weary of the whole thing and ignoring the suspiciously looking pillow, bed cover and blanket, I fixed my bed and slept. The room air-conditioning is cool enough but gets colder as the evening passes by.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Waking up, I went outside and took an actual look at the place. Since our room used to be a bar, you would expect a kitchen area but there is none. Some kabayans brought electric pots so we can make our coffees and some brought portable stoves as well. The hotel staffs told us not to cook inside because the room is close to the hotel restaurant and other hotel rooms. Cooking are allowed outside or if you can get to one of the villa’s kitchen. Walking further behind there is a swimming pool at the back of the hotel along with villas where the ladies are staying. I could say the ladies has a much decent accommodation than the guys somehow.  The villa has about 8 to 10 beds, an old CRT TV with cable channels , bathrooms and a kitchen area. As any Arab countries, men are not allowed to the women’s room and vice-versa. Although the policy is implemented strictly during the evening as the hotel staff regularly check the rooms at around 9-10 pm and another inspection at a later time. The policy is relaxed during the day though. When it comes to food, if you have a lot of cash in hand you can try their restaurant for a hefty price. There are also Pinoy restaurant close by with Pinoy menus for prices typically ranging from 10 to 12 dirhams a meal. A few Indian and Kabayans also comes by selling coffee, food, water etc. There is also a McDonalds fast food about half a kilometer from the hotel. There are number of groceries and stores right in front of the hotel across the street if you choose to cook your own food and a fish market a few kilometers from the hotel. There are Kabayans exiters in the hotel who offers to cook for large group for 10 dirhams for 2 meals; lunch and dinner. I opted to go with paying 10 dirhams for group meal since I have no utensils and food at all and I expect to not to stay long.
📷 The permanent guest of the hotel.
Tumblr media
So a day passed and I kept tabs with my travel agency regarding my visa and they are prompt enough to inform me of the progress. I had this nagging feeling of a possibility that I might stay longer than I have anticipated but I still kept a positive outlook that I will be able leave no longer than 2 days. So I made a few friends and acquaintance and talked about their stay in the hotel. I am a bit disquieted by the fact that some of the guys are staying here for more than 4 weeks! With limited resources, that’s one of the few concerns that we noobs of the exit process have. On the 2nd day of my stay and few exchanges with the travel agency, my gut feeling of staying in Oman for more than 2 days became a reality. The bus bound to Dubai is only scheduled on Sunday until Wednesday at 3am. From Thursday to Saturday, even if your visa is already approved and a printed copy can be obtained at the reception, you can only book a bus ride on the next bus schedule (Sunday to Wednesday). There are other alternatives if you can’t wait until next week if you have the money for a ride to the airport. The capacity of each schedule is only for 90 passengers.  My visa was approved on the 3rd day of my stay (Tuesday) and the last bus bound to Dubai (Wednesday) is already fully booked since Monday. I was able to book the Sunday schedule but still have to stay in the hotel for another 3-4 days. I asked for additional funds from my family since the dirhams on my hand will not be enough for my extended stay. There is a remittance and forex also across the street but since your passport is at the hotel reception, you need to come by the office and asked if you can borrow your passport. They asked then for you to come back at 5:30 pm because you will be with a group of people who will also have business with the forex establishment. A hotel staff will accompany the group to the store and you will need to photocopy the Oman stamp and ID on the passport to claim your money. You will receive the money in Omani Riyals which roughly cost about 9-10 dirhams = 1 Riyal depending on the foreign exchange. You will need to return your passport to the hotel staff and get back your receipt from the hotel reception at the back. I checked out on Friday as instructed by the reception staff and paid about 200 dirhams in advance for my extended stay. Nothing much to do but wait.
During my stay in Oman, I generally observe the place, the people and some Kabayans who are working here. Going outside, there are other hotels that is also being used by other Kabayans and foreign nationals to stay and wait for their UAE visas. Transportation differs greatly compared to Dubai. No public bus transport as far I  have observed, just private cars and taxis. The taxi drivers are mostly elderly locals and the car is not equipped with taxi meters. The fare is fixed on 10 dirhams no matter how near or far you are going and I guess that is just around the Al Buraimi town. If you want more variety of fish for your lunch and dinner, the fish market is about 1 km from the hotel via taxi. I am not really an expert when it comes to fish variety but they normally have those big fishes like tuna, salmon, some other large fish I am not familiar with, crabs, shrimps and squids. Groceries and stores in Al Buraimi also stock some Filipino food products as well. I also love the chicken shawarma here that only cost 3 dirhams. No beef options again, though. The only options is regular and spicy (but not hot). It also looks like that most owners and cashier employees in larger stores and groceries are locals. Some of them can utter a few Filipino words and phrases specially the hotel staff and store owners.
Unlike most places in the UAE, Al Buraimi, Oman doesn’t have much buildings and large structures that somehow gives you an impression that this is a rural town with sparse development in some other places. A quick trip to Wikipedia entry for Al Buraimi did verify my observation. Maybe their capital, Muscat may have a different sight but they said it is another long hour ride from this town. I snapped a few pictures of the place around the hotel for a souvenir.  It is generally quiet and the locals we met are mostly nice.
📷 One of the few signs around the hotel.
Tumblr media
Normally, I post a review and rate my experience in hotels, restaurants etc., in Trip Advisor but I thought I will make an exemption for this hotel. Since I didn’t come here for a vacation or any kind of leisure. It would seem unfair to rate them based on my purpose of being here because I didn’t really pay 400 dirhams/day (the lowest actual hotel room rate for a single room) for their amenities. Exiters (if that is a word) use the back facilities of the hotel and 50 dirhams per day isn’t really that bad. Pool use is 10 dirhams and mostly the locals and hotel guests are the ones using it. There is a bar behind the hotel that opens at around 9 pm. This is where Kabayans, men and women, and locals have a drink and socialize. I can’t say much about the bars and what is happening during those hours of the night because I chose to stay inside the room and have a chat with the other guys. Yes, there are other interesting things going on in the bar and some other dark places of the hotel but I guess you can ask the people you know who have been in this place for those stories. But as far as I’m concerned, stick to the policies and prohibition that is implemented to avoid issues, fines and even jail time.
3 days has passed I am ready to go! I wasn’t able to sleep that night and just anxiously counted the hours until 3 am. We gathered up in front of the reception area to check our names in the list. Sure enough I am in the list of one of the bus returning to Dubai. The 2 buses are actually bound to 2 separate border; Hatta and Kalba. I was part of the group going to the Kalba border which is a bit longer ride than Hatta. At 3:30 am we boarded the bus and the passports are distributed to their respected owners. Again, the drive and Omani PRO cautioned us again about the prohibited items in the border; tablets and pills other than Panadol or prescription medicines and condoms. They also advised that the visa copies needs to be neat, not crumpled or folded. They did inspected our visa paper conditions. They will ask you to print another copy if your visa looks like crap. The huge Omani guy and the elder one keeps joking about being “babaero” and “lalakero” to Kabayans they talk to. But these guys were nice and friendly, even the hulking dark one. After filling the bus with petrol and few people returning from a trip to the toilet, we set off towards the Kalba border.
The first stop is near the immigration post for baggage inspection. Thank God, no incident like the first time we went in Oman happened. After roughly about 2 hours of travel, we arrived at the Khatam Malaha port where Omani immigration officers inspects and stamps the passport for exit. We proceeded then to Kabla border and there we queued for eye scan and entry stamp for UAE. It took a while on the entry stamping because there is only one immigration officer doing both the eye scan and stamping of visa that time. After that, it is another almost 2 or more hour journey to Deira and then home sweet home.
These experiences has opened my eyes on a lot of things, like appreciating what you have and do better job in finding work. The stories of Kabayans quest to have a better life here in the UAE and even in Oman. The scary stories of being stranded because of the process gone awry and sadly due to some crooked travel agencies who ran away with their money. I witnessed how Pinoys can adapt to any situation and still have a cheery disposition. Some are ingenious enough to make money while helping out other Kabayans. There are a lot of stories that I could probably tell but this blog is already long enough that it might lull you to sleep. Over all, with my first hand experience despite the bad reviews of the place, I think Al Buraimi hotel is a decent and affordable place to stay while waiting for the visa exit process. You can always choose other packages and agencies and ask them where you can stay, but if you opt to use the Bus ride to Al Buraimi hotel, I hope this blog can at least help you prepare yourself.

Three Opinions on the Rode Rodecaster Pro
The Rode Rodecaster Pro has caught the attention of many podcasters, and some have pulled the trigger. Jim Harold (Paranormal podcast) and Jeff Bradury from Teachercast have purchased the unit. I want to thank Rode for shipping me a unit to play with. Their first impression was amazing.
Is It Worth the Money?
If purchased a four channel mixer a popular mixer is the Behringer Q1202USB is $119
A Mackie Headphone Amplifier is $40
A Jingle pallet can cost you $10 (Backpack Studio on iOs) but you'll need a phone or a tablet
A portable recorder at its cheapest is $119 for a Zoom H1N
The Aphex processing would cost you $345.
Total Price: That would be $120+40+10+120+345 = $635
The Rodecaster Pro clocks in at $599 and you avoid all the cabling all over the place. You don't have to learn about "Gain staging" and if you're using a half decent microphone, you're going to sound great.
Spec Sheet PDF
Quick Start Guide
Jeff Bradbury of Teachercast
9:51 Jeff Bradbury from the Teachercast loves his Rodecaster Pro
Jeff had a situation where he needed to interview someone over the phone and it turned out great.
Jeff points out that if you're using something external for mix-minus, you might hit a snag
He also wishes it came with a Micro SD card. He has worked with it on Skype and Zoom. Jeff is using a Mac
If you're a teacher, check out everything Jeff has to offer at www.teachercast.net
Jim Harold From the Paranormal Podcast
14:21 Jim Harold has been podcasting since 2005 and produces the Paranormal Podcast, Campfire, Crime Scene along with being the author of many books (all available at www.jimharold.com )
Jim loves the ease of use and enjoys having a noise gate to cut out room noise when he's not talking.
He really loves the sound the unit is producing. At the time of the recording, Jim had used it for 4-6 new episodes.
Jim has used a Sound Devices Mixpre-3, and a Zoom L12, but really loves the sound he is producing with the Rodecaster.
Jim also records a show with his wife called Soulmate Stories and it makes it super easy to pull in people who want to share their stories check it out at http://www.soulmatestoriespodcast.com
Jim also hopes in the future there is a way to access recording without having to take the micro SD card out.
Jim is also on a Mac.
Jim also feels that while he doesn't miss having separate tracks for each person, it would be nice to offer this option in the future.
Dave Jackson's Rodecaster Review
First of all, I was blown away by the package that was sent to me from the Rode people. This was my first interaction with this company, and I'm not sure I've experienced such a great first impression.
I love that you can configure this in minutes. You simply pair the unit with your phone and you're off and running. I used it on Saturday for a live show using Google Hangouts and also on a Group Coaching call using zoom.us and while Rode says it's not set up for the USB to be "mix minus" it appears to work.
I like that you can reset the timer if you make a flub and want to start again without stopping the recording.
I love the built-in headphone amplifier (don't miss the 3.5mm on the front if you are flying solo). I have my headphones plugged into one, and my studio monitors into another.
I am having a slight playback issue (I'm the only one of the three using a new Windows machine).
I also hate the MicroSD Card and would love to drag and drop the files to my computer without having to take the card out.
I wish there was a pause button so if something goes wrong you could pause the recording. I also wish there was a pause on the jingle buttons so if you wanted to stop and comment on something and then resume your could.
In my tests using the TRRS cable made myself sound better to the caller, but decreased their volume. The blue tooth option made the caller louder, but I sounded "not as good" to the caller (but still usable)
While  Dave doesn't miss separate tracks (but admittedly he is interviewing podcasters who have decent audio quality) he does wish there was a tad more control over the tone.
A Weird Playback Issue on Windows
46:18 I had a weird playback issue that apparently does not go into the recording. It is somewhat like a "buzz" that only I hear (not the people on the call. As I just recently got my unit and started putting it through the paces I am the only person I know having these issues. I have contacted Rode support to see if there is something on my end. I have found that whatever program I'm using if I temporarily switch what I'm using for a microphone it goes away.
Microphone Shootout The Rode Procaster vs the Electrovoice RE320
52:54 The Rode Procaster has a very warm sound to it. While I didn't have a pop filter on it, but not talking directly into it I had no popping issues. The RE320 has a nice clear sound and really there is no bad choice here. For me, I've been using the RE320 for years. I enjoy the clarity, and the tone doesn't seem to change much if I get close to the mic. The Rode Procaster is $189. The Electrovoice RE320 is $299. If you are looking for the warmth of a Heil Pr40 without the $327 price tag, you might give it a shot. There is a WS2 Windscreen for the Procaster if you want one.
Best Uses Of the Rodecaster Pro
If you are doing a podcast where up to four people are in the room, and you want a very short learning curve through the technology, this is the unit for you. You just need to:
Do your best not to talk over each other (although channel one can be set as the "top dog" with a ducking feature which turns everyone down)
There is no way to tell how much time is left, or how long a jingle will be playing. With this in mind, don't have music you have to "talk up" and then have the music fade in. This would take some practice, or the music you are talking over has to be OBVIOUS when it's time to fade it back in.
With the above items, with a little planning ahead you can sound like an old radio pro in minutes.
So if you have a co-host(s) and occasionally have a guest who wants to call in via the phone - this is THE solution.
How I Managed Live Calls on the Ask the Podcast Coach Last Week
Last week I used the Rodcaster Pro to take phone calls on a live streaming program. I used Google Live (formerly Google Hangouts on Air) for my video. I if you just want audio you can use a tool such a mixlr.com to stream your audio to your audience, or spreaker.com which also will stream audio.
To create a call queue, I use callinstudio.com. I attached my phone to the Rodecaster Pro via Bluetooth, and called my host number at callinstudio.com and gave out the callinstudio.com phone number for the callers. I monitor the calls via callinstudio.com and can add them to the call, or drop them if needed. They came through and sounded great.
Check out this episode!

“I didn’t want to be locked into their platform,” she said of Peloton. i just went to ehealthinsurance.com to look at health insurances for just myself. they have alot of stuff that i do not know what it means like plan type. which plan type should i get: ppo or hmo. next they ask about the deductibles. what kind of deductible would u recommend getting. i have no idea what a dedectible is anyways. they also have a catergory about coinsurance and office visits. if possible maybe you could just log into there as a 20 year old and tell me which is hte best insurance for its price. im really desperate i have no insurance and dont want to take the chances. thank you
How much is renters insurance?
I've lived in several apartments, but none that required renter's insurance. I'm planning on living alone in a 1 bedroom apartment in the Tucker/Stone Mountain Georgia area and several apartments I've looked at say they require it. They have to buy their own health insurance since their employers do not provide it. They want a plan that does the following: max $25 dollar deductible for any visit to a doctor....and then 80% of all cost after that up to an individual maximum cost per person per year of $2000 at which point the insurance will pick up 100% up to $300,000 per person per year. Wouldn't the PPAC (Obamacare) bankrupt insurance companies?
PPAC seems very similar in nature to the Community Reinvestment Act that played a role in the 2008 financial crisis. The PPAC requires insurers to offer the same premium (price fixing) to all applicants of the same age and geographical location without regard to most pre-existing conditions (excluding tobacco use). It also states that minimum standards for health insurance policies are to be established and annual and lifetime coverage caps will be banned. As a business owner, I don't see where the government comes to the conclusion that insurance companies could survive the price fixing and taking on such high risk liabilities. It seems like 2008 all over again, does it not? Wouldn't they get involved in something similar to what the banks did with derivatives since they were forced to take on high risk loans? It seems like the big focus on Obamacare is the part where people are forced to buy insurance. I don't think that is a big issue, the big issue is how can the insurance companies handle this? Am I wrong? I am going to do more research tonight.""

Car hit by uninsured driver - how to recover the costs?
My stationary car was hit by an uninsured driver in March 09. The insurance company made me pay 500 excess and said that this will be fully recoverable as the other driver was at fault. The car was then written off and I was paid the value of the car. In December the other driver was found guilty of driving without insurance, fined and given penalty points. Even though my policy gives me legal cover, it has now been 11 months since the incident and they do not seem to be very active. Also, my policy expires next month and as the claim is still open, the insurers assume that I lost my no claim bonus and quoted me twice as much for the renewal. I'm confused now, is there anything I can do to get my 500 back? I hope you can give me any ideas on what to do. Thanks""

How can one state offer more affordable insurance than another?
If Anthem Blue Cross/Blue Shield can compete nationwide as many others do it is not as though national insurance companies lack competition. So my question is; if every major insurance provider who could provider the greatest value due to economy of scale(greatest risk pool) in this nation how could a small company out bid a large one when faced with risk pools without cherry picking? How could insurance from one state be cheaper than another unless to bypass quality regulations and sell crap insurance?

Car Insurance Help!!!?
I have a Toyota Corolla 2007. About 6 wks ago I got rear ended, the impact sent me over the medium unto uncoming traffic. After all was said and done the car had $6,300 on repairs done. It came out okay but know I have trouble closing the trunk, I really have to slam it and the right side back lights don't really align. I am trying to figure out how much they will give me for devaluation value on the car, I have never done this before I want to make sure I don't get ripped off. Also I am still experiencing back pain from the accident, my primary doctor wants to send me to a chiropractor which my insurance doesn't cover, should the other insurance pay for it? They are not returning my calls, and they just want to offer me $500 for pain and suffering as long as I sing some papers that release the other driver and the insurance from any further responsibility. By the way it was the other drivers fault, she was in her cell phone hit mt at 45 mph from behind and this was her 10th accident in the last 3 mos. Any suggestions?""

I'm just coming up to the end of my first year of driving. My insurance is due on the 12th of December. I was quoted 1700 by my current insurer, which obviously, I'm not paying. I want to pay for my insurance ASAP so can I just put 1 years no claims on the form and put the start date as the 12th? 2. Do I need to tell my current insurer I wont be renewing with them? Are Legal Steroids Effective? See What to Expect
The question on everyone’s mind about legal steroids is, ‘do they work?’ The other question is, if they do, what are the side effects? There are a lot of perceptions and misconceptions about legal steroids and their alternatives, and we’ll seek to address them here. Before we do that, an understanding of the climate around which they exist is required.
Steroids, legal or otherwise
Steroids have been in use for the past 37,000 years, and we’ve come a long way since those ancient days. The earliest recorded use of steroids was in 1700 BC by Greek Olympians. They would ingest large amounts of bull and sheep testicles to tap into the anabolic steroids in them. Though we cannot phantom ourselves doing that in this era, the lengths people went to for anabolic steroids is an indicator of how important they are when it comes to enhanced fitness levels. When it comes to muscles, the body has its natural limit, and so other substances are required to push this limit for desired results.
In a broader American context, steroids are only prevalent in the fitness and athletic subculture. The reason why we know so much about steroids is primarily due to the media and the government’s portrayal of it. In 1990, the Anabolic Steroid Control Act added anabolic steroids to the controlled substances list and thus prohibiting it. Traffickers and users alike were receiving harsh penalties when caught with steroids.
As with many illegal drugs, this prohibition brought about its popularity within the sub-culture and beyond it. People who had never thought of using steroids were now buying into the benefits without considering the side effects.
The central message was ‘steroids give you muscles…’ and the remaining part of the narrative about its side effects would fall on deaf ears. The same logic applies when discussing illicit drugs.
This ban also birthed the industry of legal steroids to bridge the existing gap. There was demand in the market for something that brings premium results but is safe for use when build muscles. In the public arena, stigma against legal steroids is still existent in the public arena.
This negative connotation is due primarily to the portrayal of the name itself by the government and media. Upon hearing the word ‘steroids,’ we often think of a bulky, disproportional man with larger than life muscles.
We imagine them as having a small head, little intelligence, a pile of needles in their gym locker and a hard time when it comes to the bedroom department. In addition to that, they are likely to die from kidney or liver failure. Though these people exist, they account for a tiny percentage of steroid users. Something like in the image below
With the rise of the supplement industry that caters to fitness enthusiasts and athletes, with time, the stigma will fade.
The existing stereotype dictates that only people making a living out of their body’s appearance are using steroids or their legal alternatives. Statistics show that it’s actually men between 25-35 years using them for cosmetic purposes- they just want to look good. You’ll often find that these men are in the educated working class with well-paying jobs that allow them time to hit the gym.
Steroids vs. Legal alternatives to steroids
The reason most people take steroids is to increase their testosterone levels that then increases muscle mass. Steroids have been banned by sporting organizations because they give people an unfair advantage. It does so by making bone fragments stronger and muscle tissue harder. The risks of taking steroids, orally or through injections, lead to more than disqualification at a sporting event. If you are using them to get ripped, it is critical to understand that all illegal steroids have side effects- that’s why they are banned.
These side effects include aggressive or violent behaviors, acne, baldness, elevated cholesterol levels, high blood pressure, heart failure and liver damage. Bodies were never designed to take extreme levels of testosterone.
Pop culture fact: The body turns excess testosterone into estrogen. This reason is why on TV, the bodybuilder on steroids usually has a feminine voice.
The great thing about alternatives to steroids is that they have no side effects. When you weigh the pros and cons of legal steroids and supplements, the smart option is to get the latter.
If your gear was about to malfunction or harm you in any way, would you still go ahead and use it? The same logic applies here. When you put something in your body with no side effects, sleep becomes sweater as you won’t have to worry about an impending body ‘malfunction.’
Do legal steroids work?
Legal steroids have a bad rep. There are so many brands on the market that scam people with fancy hardcore names, flashy advertising and emphasizing the benefits. There’s a neat trick they use; they list all the benefits of steroids, and then say the product will do the same, but with no side effects. No scientific research, just claims. What’s worse is that most never specify what ingredients are in the tablets or powder. Not only do you not know what you’re ingesting, but also whether or not it’s safe for you.
It’s not to say there aren’t good brands out there. With a little research and reading honest reviews, you can get a legal steroid alternative that works for you. Due to the nature of the industry, be prepared to pay more.
Do I need legal steroids?
Check Recent Offers On The Most Reputable Legal Steroids Supplier in USA
Rock hard bodies are today’s standard of beauty. Superhero movies and models for commercials and magazines have chiseled abs to die for and muscular arms and legs. It’s no wonder for years men have been going to the gym to get these physiques, some hoping they’ll one day look like Arnold Schwarzenegger.
These aspirations are admirable, but it would be naive not to admit that those men are getting extra help from somewhere else. This push does not diminish how hard they work. It takes a lot of hours in the gym and following a strict diet- consistently- to have and maintain a body like Dwayne Johnson’s. The extra help, depending on the person, is usually steroids, or a legal alternative to them.
Think about it. It can be quite infuriating to work out like a pro and two months on you’re just a more toned version of yourself. There are two things most people do. Buy steroids, take the pills or injection, and get ripped super-fast.
If you’re the more patient type and concerned how steroids can make you lose a kidney, you’ll probably go for the supplements- this is what most products mean when they say the legal alternative to steroids.
When it comes to making the purchase, you end up getting the cheapest legal alternatives to steroids. A container full of pills or powder with a muscled man or woman on the label is not a guarantee that the supplement will work.
It’s ironic how little we spend on what we put in our body but will pay big bucks to have the latest gear, equipment or even iPhone.
Supplements are not a wonder drug that you pop, go to the gym whenever you feel like and muscles form. You have to put in the long hours at the gym, eat protein like your life depends on it- because it does- and get enough sleep to give your muscles time to heal and recover. Sadly, it’s not that easy to get the muscles of the men you see at your local gym. Supplements is what give the body that extra push to build muscle, burn more fat and give you the endurance to work out non-stop for two hours 5 to 6 times a week.
Quicker results
Let’s face it; the faster, the better. Well, at least most of the time. When it comes to bulking up, no one wants to spend money on a supplement that takes too long to show results. Marine Muscle heard the groans of many and came up with an anabolic and thermogenic legal alternative to steroids that is so powerful that nothing comes close to it in the market. Anabolic is building up of muscles and thermogenic is increasing one’s metabolism to burn more fat. The supplement’s name ‘Marine Muscle’ is a tell-all of what to expect. All their nine supplements have a marine affiliated name which gives you an idea of how powerful the tablets are.
Marine Muscle says that they took more than a decade to formulate the legal alternative to steroids with utmost precision. From their studies, they found six essential ingredients that had been missing on other brands that made them less efficient.
Disclaimer: When discussing legal steroid alternatives, it would be a glaring omission not to mention that Marine Muscle is only available in the US. Word on the street is that it contains ingredients not approved in Europe and the UK. This clarification should not, however, cause panic. The disclaimer on the website states the brand’s products are not intended to prevent, diagnose, treat or cure any disease. This statement is used widely for dietary supplements. The company does, however, manufacture the product under FDA approved facilities.
Is it the right for me?
If you want to:
Build muscle faster than your peers
Increase your strength to marine levels
Increase your metabolism to burn excess fat
Keep a strict workout and diet regimen
Get steroid-like effects without the hustle or undesired effects
… Marine Muscle is for you.  If your idea of a workout is walking to the fridge and lifting burgers to your mouth, then don’t waste your money on this.
Also, if you’re looking for a drug-free of side effects, then Marine Muscle is definitely for you.
What do the different supplements do?
ALPHA: Ideal for cutting and burning fat. It also protects lean muscle, leaving behind a marine physique
COLONEL: Recommended for fat loss and cutting, leaving behind a powerful muscular body. It also helps you maintain high levels of energy and endurance.
DEVIL DOG: Unleash your body’s potential for fast muscle gain, strength, and endurance. Also gives you an energy boost during a new training cycle.
DRILL MASTER: Great for hard gainers and those seeking rapid muscle increase and strength and stamina. It also maintains your muscle during the recommended week and a half break during a training cycle.
ENDURO: Neutralizes weaknesses and fatigue, eliminating excuses. It makes you train harder for longer and recover faster.
GENERAL: An alternative to HGH and rapidly burns fat.
GUNNER: Works full range; for muscle gains, fat loss and strength development.
KLICKS: It stimulates bone growth and increases your bone density, making you taller.
SERGEANT: This supplement is responsible for doing away with your man-boobs.
TROOPER: For muscle growth, heightened strength and stamina power and fast recovery. It also increase your testosterone levels and sex drive
WINGER: The go-to choice if you want a ripped and rock-solid physique.
You are expected to see results in 3-4 weeks, assuming that you are keeping to a strict diet and fitness program.
I’d like to purchase Marine Muscle, what next?
You can go to their official website and place your order. The site is the only place that you can get it. Though a slight inconvenience, a lot of companies with original formulas are doing this for quality control purposes.
The site is very user-friendly and easy to navigate. Instead of reading the labels of all nine supplements to find out what each does, they have grouped them for you in ‘stacks.’ Depending on that you want, bulking, cutting or strength, you can purchase a four supplement combination they’ve laid out for you.
Do I need a prescription?
The quick answer is ‘no’. The ingredients in Marine Muscle puts it under dietary supplements. Each product prescribes the recommended dose for maximum effect.
Who manufactures it?
Wolfson Berg is behind Marine Muscle.  Their divisions of nutraceuticals and consumer products are developed based on scientific studies. They support over 100 brands in manufacturing, consultancy, and private labeling.
Pricing and Shipping
The average price range is $60 – $70 for 90 capsules. The highest priced is Klicks (for bone growth) and goes for $89.99.
Buying the products separately would be more expensive, so the stacks help. Each stack contains and costs:
Bulking: Drill Master, Enduro, Gunner, Trooper ($219.99)
Cutting: Alpha, Colonel, Trooper, Winger ($209.99)
Strength: Alpha, Drill Master, Gunner, Trooper ($199.99)
With these stacks, you buy each bottle for the price of one. Besides, Marine Muscle offers you another stack of your choice for free along with five training and nutrition guides.
The product is only available in the US and shipping is free. You can pay using Amex, MasterCard or Visa, and the products come in a concealed package for confidentiality. You can get a refund if you return unopened items within seven days of shipping.
Notice for sports users
If you’re likely to get a drug test done, share the list of ingredients found at the back of each container with your coach, sports body or doctor. They will be then able to advise on whether or not to use Marine Muscle before testing.
Recommendation
The perception of fitness and athletics is slowly changing, and more people are stepping up to bring back the glory of these industries. Exercise should be an integral part of everyone’s day and those wanting to go the extra mile to make their bodies function in a superior way should be allowed to do so. Granted, this should take place within specific parameters.
Leaving a dark cloud over this industry has birthed a black market which tells young men that there are no better alternatives in the mainstream market. Though products like Marine Muscle are debunking this myth, more still needs to be done.
That said the supplement industry also needs to raise its standards. Promising something and not delivering is sending people back to illegal steroids and reinforcing the myth.
Brands should put time and research to establish what natural ingredients produce optimum results when combined with fitness and diet. If you’ve bought supplements before and have been disappointed before, consider trying Marine Muscle.
It is among the few products in the market that puts a comprehensive list of the ingredients used in a product. A quick search online can tell you all you need to know.
While Marine Muscle products are a bit on the pricey side, they are worth the investment when it comes to your health and goals. They are not anabolic steroids, but they do mimic their results. If you want that marine physique that we all envy, then this alternative to legal steroid is definitely for you.

How to prepare for voice search
Voice search is picking up steam. You can now use your voice to search the web, play music, navigate home, order sushi or get the latest football results. You might think that voice assistants are taking over the world, but that’s not the case – not yet, anyway. In this article, I’ll elaborate on the rise of natural language and voice searches, plus give you tips to prepare your content for these new types of visitors.

What is voice search?
With voice search, you use your voice to perform actions on the web. In the past, people often laughed at voice assistants because they were slow and had difficulty understanding and answering questions. However, the current generation of assistants is on its way to becoming incredibly sophisticated. Almost every type of query is possible just by uttering it. We’re not there yet, though, to become a real asset to people’s lives, these devices and services have to take it up another notch. Accuracy is often still an issue.
But why voice? For one thing, it’s fast; people can speak much more rapidly than they can type. It’s convenient, because you can work hands-free and, most of the time, get instant, relevant results, be it in answer to a question or performing an action. In addition to that, the developments on using your voice as an interface, have resulted in a context-based system that uses many components to give you relevant results.
While the significant strides were made on mobile devices, it is now at home were voice operated devices find their place. Amazon has sold millions of Alexa enabled devices, and there’s no end in sight. Recently, Google went on the offensive with Google Home; it’s own smart home assistant.
A look at the data
If you look at data from Mary Meeker’s renowned annual trends report, you’ll see that the use of voice assistants is on the rise. In 2015, 65% of US smartphone owners used a voice assistant, up from 56% in 2014 and 30% in 2013. The main reason for this growth is the improvement of the technology. Meeker also suggests that Google voice queries were up 35 times since 2008 and seven times since 2010. The last one, in May 2016 one in five searches on Android devices in the US is voice activated. A recent study by Stone Temple Consulting showed that, while people were generally happy with the performance of voice assistants, they’d like them to answer more questions directly.
Why and how do people use voice search?
It might not come as a surprise that people use voice assistants because they’re convenient, especially when your hands are occupied. They’re a breeze to use, even more so for slow typers. Plus, people love getting fast, relevant results and many just plain enjoy the use of this kind of assistant. However, people rather use these services at home or in the car than on the go and at work. There still seems to be a psychological barrier to belt out search queries in a group of people.
Voice searches answer questions
Voice assistants use so-called conversational search queries to get an answer to an individual question. These kinds of queries are spoken in a full, natural language sentence, and the reply is in a whole sentence as well. This is something you have to keep in mind when working on your content SEO strategy. If you ask [What’s the weather in Amsterdam today?], you might get the answer [‘It’s cloudy today, with a slight chance of rain. The maximum temperature is 16C.’] If you’re on a screen-based device, this result might be accompanied by a screen showing you the conditions.

Google Hummingbird
Google made answering questions a priority in its Hummingbird update in 2013. This update was meant to change the way Google responds to queries people write or speak. Since Hummingbird, the context of every word in the search query is taken into account. It’s no longer about the words themselves, but what they represent or mean. If you need a reminder of what Hummingbird encompassed, watch Joost explain it all in this video. Hummingbird had a significant impact on how Google scanned your content. It became incredibly important to structure your text properly.
The 5 Ws
Conversational searches tend to answer the classic 5 Ws: who, what, when, where, why and how. Here are a couple of examples:
Who designed the Golden Gate Bridge?
What do I need for a BBQ?
When did Sesame Street air for the first time?
Where can I get the cheapest pizza in the Bronx?
Why do birds suddenly appear?
 How did Google start?
You see that these natural language, conversational searches encompass more words than our typed searches. These are no keywords, but rather key phrases. If you want to rank for these kinds of phrases, you have to have an answer for these questions. Long-tail keywords play an important part in this. More on that in a minute.
The technology is getting smarter
In the early days, searching with your voice was clunky and error-prone. Many people just gave up in frustration. However, nowadays, voice operated technology is getting smart, fast. Think about it; you can now adjust the spelling of a search query if a result came up with the wrong keyword [night vs. knight]. Searches now take into account what was asked before, so you can ask additional questions to narrow down the results. So, you can ask a voice assistant to find all films by Kevin Spacey. After that, you can bring that down to just the ones he won an Oscar for. Or ones that co-star Morgan Freeman.
Context plays a big part in the recent developments of voice assistants. More and more, these assistants look at the world around you to give you relevant results or actions to take. If you’re at home, you might get different options than when you’re commuting to work. Or if you have a particular app running, an assistant might use that information to make an educated guess about what you are doing or what you might want to do. This is only the beginning; we will see a lot more developments on this front.
Now what?
So voice search changes how we search, and therefore we should closely examine the way we provide our content. If you want to answer the natural language questions people use to search for something, your content is the first thing that needs to be fixed. You need to ask yourself what questions your content is answering at this moment and find out if that aligns with the questions people ask. Is the answer all-encompassing or is it incomplete, thus not satisfying the needs of the visitor? You should also think about the readability; is it easy to understand, scannable and instantly comprehensible?
Take a long hard look at the conversational queries people use to find what they need. Not only look at your data but also check how your competitors are doing and see how they are trying to answer these questions. Use the autocomplete feature in search engines to see which questions often pop up. Put the answers you find in a spot where search engines can easily filter them out. Don’t make it a long winding answer, but get to the point and serve it straight up.

An example of a question answered
Your content and HTML must join hands to respond to questions in the quickest way possible. Optimize the pieces of content you think are valuable for your visitors, plus the ones you suspect people will search for. To illustrate that, we’ll look at an example from Yoast.com. We are continually working on our content to get it highlighted in Google. That’s no easy task, but keep at it and it will work.
Yoast content answers a question directly in the search engine
The content for the featured snippet was taken from this piece of text
In this case, our article on cloaking affiliate links has been optimized in such a way that it can answer the question: [How to cloak an affiliate link]. Google figures out the question and the answer right from the content. In general, it helps if you use short answers, and present it with bullet points. If you use ten or more steps, Google will add a ‘read more’ link to the answer box, likely getting you a higher CTR. Answering questions in this way, not only gets your content ready for voice search but can also lead to featured snippets in Google, like the one below.
Focus on long-tail keywords
To answer natural language questions correctly, you also need to work on your long-tail keywords. Since these spoken questions contain a lot more words than a typed search command [What is the best restaurant near De Dam in Amsterdam] vs. [Restaurant De Dam Amsterdam], you can use these extra words to rank for. It might make it a bit easier to rank higher for the phrases you want to be found for. You’ll also see that searchers will increasingly use terms like [best] or [nearest] to search for relevant results, so that’s something you need to keep in mind.
Another good way to answer questions people may have is by adding a FAQ to your site or optimizing the one you already have. Collect the questions people ask and write a short, but relevant answer. Search engines can directly use these answers to give searchers a valid reply to their voice search commands.
Optimize your page for mobile use
In addition to offering valuable answers to questions people are asking, your page needs to work flawlessly on mobile devices. Check how it functions on multiple smartphones, tablets, and other gear. Is it perfectly accessible on these devices? Is it attractive, fast and easily readable? It is also a good idea to invest in a proper Schema.org implementation because this gives your pages a lot more context for search engines. For instance, you could add Schema.org markup to your review page, so search engines have a valid source to identify your authority. This should all be a part of your mobile SEO strategy.
Conclusion
It sure looks like voice search is here to stay. This brings great opportunities for some, while others might be worried about search engines and digital assistants answering every possible question directly. Should you be worried? Well, that probably depends on your content. If you have high-value content, like recipes, you might be ok. Voice assistants won’t be able to read that recipe for you, yet. If your site offers basic calculation and conversion services, for instance, to calculate the number of teaspoons that fit in a cup, then it’s going to be harder for you to survive in a voice search world.
Regular, content-driven sites, need to be able to answer the question voice-driven searchers are looking for. To get your site ready for the slew of voice-activated searches, you need to think carefully about your content; does it answer the questions people have?
