who wakes up first: —kira tends to wake up first. he doesn’t even need an alarm, it’s just his internal clock. i definitely don’t think kosaku was an early bird tho and he might’ve even slept through some alarms, but we also know him to be a diligent worker, so his morning routines might be more rushed than kira’s peaceful mornings. i wonder if this was smth kira had to adapt to. i know he’s careful abt keeping his identity hidden, but the small joys of having his mornings to himself and carrying out his routines are part of his ideal quiet life, so i don’t know if he would sacrifice this, even as a cover. he’d be quieter than kosaku as to not wake shinobu, and she wouldn’t even realize that he’d already made coffee by the time kosaku’s alarm would go off

who has the weird taste in music: kira likes queen, he’s as generic as it gets. shinobu’s isn’t exactly obscure either, but i feel like she’d enjoy haruomi hosono (i may be biased with my association bc an old kirashino mutual o’ mine told me some of his songs reminded them of me, so U__U)! i’m thinking abt shimendoka in particular

who is more protective: i’ve said this on an old shipping chart meme, but kira definitely worries more abt shinobu! for the first time in her life, she can be carefree and relaxed thanks to him

who sings in the shower: im getting deja vu bc i swear ive talked abt most of this stuff before but i can’t remember to whom or where. whatever, my specialty is repeating myself for fun <3 i hc that kira has vocal stims, singing included, but he stopped when donning the kosaku identity. but stims are stims, you aren’t even aware you’re doing them sometimes. i can imagine a scenario where he’s humming to himself in the shower and shinobu joins in on the song and it freaks him out bc he didn’t even realize he was doing it

who cries during movies: both of them but for different reasons. shinobu cries if a dog dies in a movie. kira tears up over cinematic romantic period dramas (every day i thank araki for making him a canon romantic 🙏)

who spends the most while out shopping: kira isn’t an excessive spender but he Does only buy the highest of quality items. not necessarily flashy rich clothes or anything, but he likes his ties tailored and his kitchen knives sharp. i do personally want to headcanon shinobu as a bit of a shopper tho, she might not buy the most expensive things but they surely add up. miss material girl absolutely NEEDS to add this teacup to her china collection!

who kisses more roughly: this is more of an early-relationship answer (i struggle to imagine their relationship in the later stages, but f0r has been helping me a lot with that!) but i think they’re actually rly gentle with each other? shinobu might be a little more passionate since she’s gotten no action for 10+ years + she’s in her crush phase, but i dont think she’s rough at all. kira is rough in a clumsy way, idc how suave and experienced he tries to act, he has never known the loving touch of a woman.

who is more dominant: shinobu is more dominant in the assertive, confident sense. she knows what she wants and she won’t hesitate to lead kira to that point. that being said, i don’t think she’s very interested in taking a dominant role. she wants to let someone else take the lead and take care of her. kira is naturally dominant but also has to exercise a lot of restraint as to not go overboard (and shinobu wants to see him go overboard 😔)

rating: 10/10, a top 3 ship for sure. very influential to the relationships i lean towards in media now

I have a few headcanons for those two separately + their friendship/dynamic

Edd:

Edd is absolutely toxic and I love him for it, he's the physical embodiment of gaslight, gatekeep girlboss. he's such a smug little twat I would hug him til he pops(affectionate). he's a memer, loves quoting memes and probably has a tiktok tbh. he's like a theatre kid and a band kid in the body of an art major. he's a cat person, though he loves dogs too, he's afraid of spiders, bugs and rodents.

I also hc he has ADHD, he's medicated but forgets to take his medication places in case he needs it so is almost never on it. he drinks cola because it seems to help him be able to focus when he needs to and it tastes good. lots of his stims are vocal and are memes, but some others include ruffling his hair, hand flapping, foot tapping, jumping, and snapping his fingers.

he's pansexual and possibly polyam though he's more of dipping his toes in the water, not fully sure yet. it took him a while to figure out his sexuality, he went from thinking he was straight, to questioning being bi once Tord came out as such, to finding the term pansexual and feeling it fit him much better. he's got no gender preference though he loves muscle studs all around.

he has super messy curly hair, he never brushes it though he does wash it, in fact he feels uncomfortable with being dirty and washes every day, sometimes even twice or three times depending on the activities he does that day. he has two moles (that I almost never draw cuz I forgor), one on the side of his neck and one on the back of his thigh. he's insecure about both of them but pretends not to be. he is quite confident otherwise, thinking he's the best and putting himself on a pedestal while pretending he's "super down to earth". though one other thing he's insecure about is his weight, he's naturally chubby from genes from both sides of his family but was bullied for his weight for years. he's not super insecure because his ego is ginormous but he likes to imagine himself with a more muscular body(mostly cuz he thinks muscles are really hot). he likes to make fun of his friends(especially Matt) because it makes him feel better about himself. definitely the friend to force hug you when you tell them not to and do stuff like punch you really hard on the arm for no reason.

Tom:

Tom is non-binary, first of all, with they/he pronouns, they mostly use they/them but are cool with and some days exclusively use he/him. they don't necessarily hate being called masculine terms(man, boyfriend, gentleman, etc) but don't exactly love it either, they prefer androgenous terms(person, partner, etc). they're also demisexual, only being attracted to those they have a close relationship with, of any gender really with no preference. they make indie ska music with their own little covers drawn by him in marker. they don't look amazing because he's not exactly an artist but they like the style of them. I obviously headcanon Tom as black and usually I draw them with their canon hairstyle but recently I draw them with their natural hair more, they bleach and straighten it to give it his canon look but takes little breaks Inbetween to let his scalp breathe a bit. Tom is rather short for an adult, being 5"5, at least shorter than all their friends who are at least average height. everyone obviously makes fun of them for this.

Tom definitely goofs off more than the fandom believes, they're a total goofball, a silly goose, a funny lil fella, they just take a more negative and pessimistic approach to situations. they have major self doubt about pretty much everything and make it everyone else's problem. they probably enjoy a good walk around the London streets with their headphones in, taking in the sights and window shopping. Tom is a dog person but Ringo is his favourite animal, she's too cute to resist. they're afraid of taking things too far and being unloved, also geese because geese are horrifying.

their relationship:

Edd worries about Tom, Tom worries about Edd, though they'd never admit that to each other, they both know the other cares about them. Tom does show Edd more affection and open compassion, more than he ever would with Matt or Tord, than Edd does with him. it's not that Edd doesn't like Tom, he just feels sometimes that their drinking can get in the way of their friendship and make things a lot more stressful for Edd. though it could be said Edd takes advantage of Tom's kindness in their friendship, they both poke fun at each other and mess with each other a bit. a little prank from Tom to Edd, a stab in the arm as payback from Edd to Tom. totally fair and balanced (/s). Edd and Tom have been friends since they were incredibly young children, about 4 or 5, since their parents were friends, Edd knows pretty much everything about Tom and Tom knows pretty much everything about Edd. most of their fights aren't serious and usually end in laughter, though the ones that are more serious are usually dropped pretty quickly. they totally gang up on Matt all the time, especially after Tord left and it was just the three of them 😭 dude picked the wrong life to be ginger tbh but secretly they both acknowledge Matt's really hot lol they hate him so much for it. Tom probably also loves cuddling on Edd's stomach while they watch TV, they're very physically affectionate and almost act like a couple, even going to fancy restaurants together, though at least for the time being, they're just friends.

Tommy

He toe-walks. He is a Big Man and toe-walking makes him even bigger.

He repeats words that sound Good (“Baba” for example).

He hums and sings, though this one he really only does when he’s by himself or with people he trusts (so basically Tubbo and Ranboo).

He uses chewelry quite a lot. (Inspired by cc!Tommy saying “I have such active teeth” and other things involving mud that I can’t remember.)

He runs his hands through his hair, especially when he’s stressed or flustered.

He picks at his lips and the skin around his nails.

He also bites his nails.

Leg Bounce ™

Listening to music, of course.

He loves petting and hugging animals, including ones that really should not be pet or hug. He used to run his hands through Friend’s wool often.

He canonically sews!! So depending on his mood he might dive into a six-hour sewing extravaganza or he might just mindlessly string the same pattern for a while.

Tubbo

Tubbo makes random noises or modifies his voice (usually makes it higher pitched or more guttural). He likes to screw with his friends and freak them out with this one (like when cc!Tubbo uses autotune while talking to Ranboo).

He uses stim toys quite a lot. Rubik’s cubes, fidget cubes, tangles, something to keep his hands occupied. He makes a lot of his own toys from leftover building and redstone materials, and he makes toys for his friends as well.

He adjusts his tie as a stim. He picked this up during Manberg and it carried on until the end of his presidency. After he founded Snowchester and stopped wearing a tie, he continued the motion, but now he just grabs onto the collar of his shirt or jacket.

He sings as well, often bursting into song if he hears so much as a word or two from a song he knows.

He pokes/taps the tips of his horns.

He runs his fingers across his scars, since they have a different texture from the rest of his skin.

When he’s stressed or angry, he squeezes his hands into very tight fists and he grinds his teeth.

Ranboo

Ranboo already canonically stims!! Picking up, holding, and placing grass blocks is a common one. Pacing when he’s stressed and enderman noises are also ones we’ve seen. I can’t for the life of me think of any others but I know there’s more.

Raptor hands. I rest my case.

The little “bow bow bow” noises that cc!Ranboo makes when he listens to music.

He just loves listening to music. So much. All the time.

Petting his cats and listening to/feeling them purr. Major comfort for him.

Once again similar to his cc! counterpart, he’s very good with Rubik’s cubes. He once casually solved a dodecahedron in the middle of a Butcher Army meeting.

Ranboo to me seems like the kind of guy who likes “bigger” (more noticeable) stims but is afraid to do any of them.

For the sake of keeping these headcanons as wholesome as I can manage (and believe me, I’m struggling), I’ll say that he does eventually become more comfortable with his stims and he allows himself to do things that are more noticeable (which nobody minds, of course).

Jumping stim!! This can only be done outside or well below the ceiling because good lord he goes high.

Singing, and usually very loudly.

Shouting. Just. AHHHH.

Alivebur

He prefers auditory and visual stims to other types, though there are a couple exceptions.

Watching the sunrise and sunset becomes a favorite visual stim after his revival.

Sparks and small flames are very good as well.

He loves rubbing his thumb against the edges of book pages and flipping the pages quickly (I don’t know how to describe it but it’s a common thing a lot of folks do).

He changes accents at will. If he spends too much time around you your voice will be stolen.

You know that one time Wilbur cheered “yeah daddy Dream” in the middle of lore? The way he swung his arms when he did that? Yeah, that. That’s the stim.

Moving his fingers as though strumming an instrument, humming, singing, tapping, swaying to music, even moving his hands around like a conductor. Tons and tons of music-related stims.

Ghostbur

He likes physical stims much more than Alivebur does.

Raptor hands. Raptor hands my beloved.

Oversized sleeves with raptor hands.

Flappy hands with oversized sleeves with raptor hands.

Popcat stim. He seems like a popcat kind of dude.

Petting and hugging Friend.

Assuming blue is a liquid or powder, he likes rubbing blue between his hands and fingers. If you headcanon blue as being more like a putty, you could say he plays with it as such.

Wilbur’s love of music carries over through all of his iterations, so all the previously mentioned musical stims apply to Ghostbur as well.

Phil

Popcat!! Pop pop pop.

“My name is nugget, I’m a big fat chicken.”

Flapping and fluffing up his wings.

Petting the crows and giving them little head scritches.

Those “boosh boosh boosh” and “bap bap bap” sounds cc!Phil makes when he’s building.

Jack

He changes accents, though it’s often involuntarily. I like to imagine he’s in the middle of some really angsty argument but halfway through his voice gets stuck in a Scottish accent and he can’t fix it.

“What did she say?!” “What the dog doing?” “I don’t wanna slow dance, in the DARK—” “Boy what the hell boy.” …and other memes as vocal stims.

He also sings a bit, though not as often as others.

Niki

I guess it doesn’t necessarily count as a stim, but she totally stress bakes. And happy bakes too.

If she’s not actively baking, she likes watching baking compilations. Cake and cupcake and cookie decorating videos.

Other visual stims too! Calligraphy, soap cutting, and fuzzy animals are some of her favorites.

She isn’t able to, but she really wants to pet Steve. He looks very soft.

She’s gotten permission from Technoblade to enter his Hound Army’s kennel whenever she pleases and pet all of the dogs. They all love her very much and whine when she leaves.

Eret

They sketch random buildings and maps, or doodle on the margins of their proper designs.

I know that echolalia and a lot of other symptoms show up differently in different people, so I had to base this on my own experience, and I have a tendency to echo literally anything, words, sounds, rhythms, anything.

I decided to have this take place in a scenario where reader copies each member individually!

Chrollo

Probably the one who has read up on any and all of your symptoms, since he considers it his responsibility to be educated on your needs

When, after you happened to be sat in a meeting with the Troupe, you began muttering to yourself, he wanted to see if you were alright

As he walked up to after, hoping to speak with you, he was surprised to see you repeating a seemingly innocuous phrase from somewhere in the middle of the meeting

Chrollo would recognize this as a stim, but he wouldn’t understand immediately why you would be stimming something he randomly said

He would be a bit thrown off when your explanation is very simple, telling him that it just sounded right, felt right in your brain

He wouldn’t tell a soul, but a little part of him was proud that you found his voice that nice to listen to that you’d imitate it for fun

He definitely doesn’t mind, and even encourages any stimming in general, since he can see that it makes you happy

Machi

While most of her medical training is in more physical things, after it was mentioned that you were autistic, she decided to go and top up her knowledge of neurodivergency.

At one point during a mission, she murmured to herself to remember a safe’s code, not realizing that she was within earshot of you

Several hours after the mission was over and everyone was celebrating the spoils of victory, she overheard you repeating the code to yourself over and over again

She expressed her confusion to you, reminding you that the mission was over and there was no need for the code anymore

When your response was to tell her that the code simply sounded nice, she would probably get confused for a moment

Machi doesn’t quite understand how some random string of numbers can ‘sound nice’ but she also knows that your brain functions differently from hers

I don’t see her making too big a deal out of it, but she’d actually make a sly comment about how much you listen to her

Other than that, she happy to let you stim as you please!

Phinks

Probably not educated at all about the intricacies of your stimming or any symptoms in general, but he'll never get upset with you, since he understands on some level that it's just how you are

I'd imagine that the way you'd echo from him miiight come from overhearing him death threatening a scared hostage

Definitely spooks him when he hears you mumbling the harshest and longest string of curses he's ever heard

Mostly because you're spitting the words with the exact same tone as he did, and he thinks that you're trying to threaten him

(He doesn't wanna mess with you 😆)

When he finally figures out that you're copying him, he jumps to the next conclusion that you're mocking him

"What? Am I not intimidating to you? I sure scared that scum back there!"

"What are you talking about?"

His face when you explain yourself to him is nothing short of flustered, and he begins profusely apologizing

He gets super caught up whenever he's accidentally ableist, since he wants you to feel safe around him

Once you've cleared up the situation, he actually takes joy in seeing you copy him, and if he gets the chance he'll want to teach you how to be more intimidating

Uvogin

Another case of not really knowing what stims are, but being respectful of them anyway

I mean, man is literally eight feet tall, he doesn't care about whatever weird things anyone else might do

He roars at the back of his throat once, and that's it

When he's walking past you after a mission, Uvo's almost shocked to hear you making a vague growling noise constantly

Since he likes to lean into his animal side a bit more than others, he'll jokingly ask if you're trying to intimidate him, much like Phinks

When you explain to him to you thought that his roar was fun enough to copy, he also takes an odd sense of pride in it

He's not normally a man for any kind of subtlety, but if you actually found his roars pleasing to listen to, he'll see if he can roar at a volume that won't immediately burst your eardrums without protection or distance

If you do a lot of vocal stimming in general, especially imitation of his roars, I can see him taking you out to some mountain or cave or whatever to practice your roar for some fun bonding

Nobunaga

Okay so we know that he spends plenty of time around Machi, so she's probably explained some of the main symptoms of your autism at some point when he asked

But when he sits next to you and hears you trying to imitate the sounds that his sword makes when he charges it with his Nen, he looks at you incredulously for a moment

You may not have even noticed that you were echoing at first, so you'll probably be confused when you see him looking at you

"Oh, sorry, your sword just sounds nice!"

*Cue even further confusion from him*

Completely doesn't get how a sword sounds nice, but kind of has this "You do you, kid" attitude about it

May or may not invite you to listen to his practice and then wait until afterwards to listen for your echoes because he finds it cute

Shizuku

Okay I'm gonna be honest, when Blinky first appeared in show and made that noise, I was taken and kept trying to make the same noise for hours whenever it appeared

"Shizuku, why did you summon Blinky? Is something wrong?"

"What are you talking about? I didn't summon them?"

"Oh that was me, sorry."

Definitely has a giggle about it when she finds that you enjoy echoing her Nen ability

Will summon Blinky whenever you want to 'have a chat' with them

Very openly thinks you're absolutely adorable with it, and it's one of the first things she'll do every time she gets to see you

Shalnark

Honestly, he says everything with such a happy, upbeat tone, anything he says can be copied for fun

His laugh is the best, so you're probably echoing that

He's probably not too shocked when he hears an attempt his own laugh coming from down the hallway, thinking someone's trying to play a prank on him

But he'll be a little confused when he finds you

When you reveal the truth of what you were doing, oh god, be prepared

"Aww, you like my voice that much??"

"You do a pretty good impression of me, must spend a lot of time listening, huh?"

He WILL NOT stop until he gets to see you blush, though if he does overstep and upset you, he'll tone it back down immediately

Might not change anything especially big with his usual way of talking, but will take a moment to appreciate his own voice whenever he catches you imitating him

Bonolenov

THE MUSIC!!

Okay I know that they're mainly used for battle and injuring people's ears, but he definitely has more calm songs that he plays for his friends

When you first hear it, the tunes are so enchanting that you will be humming or whistling it for weeks afterwards

He's sitting and relaxing when he hears you attempting to hum the tune of a sweet lullaby he had once played for the Troupe

It's probably not a perfect replication, since it takes a while to learn the songs he makes, but it makes his heart melt to think that you want to try your hand at his beloved music

When he overhears you, he jumps in to begin gushing about the song you found so lovely

Asking if you'd like to hear it again -  he'd certainly love to play it for you again!

He might seem really overexcited, but he's genuinely happy that he can bring you joy with his ability

Franklin

Took me a moment to think of something for him, but after a while of thinking:

He speaks slowly and calmly quite often, so I can imagine that he can sometimes say things in very rhythmic fashion, which will catch on very quick

You're walking away from a quick chat with him, when he hears you whispering under your breath

Normally wouldn't even make a note of it, but he wants to make sure you're okay

(Definitely isn't worried about you and wanting to keep you safe)

His reaction when you tell him that you liked the way that he said something is a mix between "Oh, that's nice" and "What are you on about"

Has probably the least amount of education on stimming, but also one of the most open to learning, since he wants to do what he can to keep those he cares about safe and happy

Will be a bit put off by the way you seem to copy him at first, but definitely doesn't mind after a while

Silently thanks you for making him take a moment to appreciate his own voice

Pakunoda

Sweetheart hums a meteor city anthem one day, and isn't really shocked when she comes upon you humming it yourself

Since she's looked into your mind with her ability, she knows the way that you like to echo certain sounds, and doesn't mind at all

If she's listening from around a corner or such, she will smile joyfully and quietly wait out of your sight

Unless you catch her in the act, she's actually quite happy to not let you know of presence while she enjoys the thought of you enjoying her culture

But, if you do catch her, she'll probably start gushing to you about the origin of whichever song you wanted to imitate

She wants you to feel happy, however you wish to pursue that, and will absolutely hype you up in any sort of stimming you need to do

Whether you want her to ignore your echoing, or to join in whenever she hears, she's happy to do whatever you ask to keep you happy

Feitan

If he catches you copying something he said in broken language, at first he will assume that you were making fun of him

Not because he thinks that you're mean spirited, just because he's used to people mocking

With most members of the Troupe, he would show no mercy at this point, but since he actually likes you, you get one chance to explain yourself

Once you tell him about why you're copying him, he'll be seriously confused for a moment

Yeah he's never heard the word echolalia before

So you'll have to explain it to him

Probably doesn't immediately get it, but he lets you off the hook for it, since he does understand that you're very different from him and the others

Doesn't really think too much of it once you've cleared up that you aren't mocking him, although he finds it interesting to listen to you talking about how stimming works, even when he doesn't understand half of it

Kortopi

Actually another case that assumes that you're mocking him

He's used to being acknowledged as a weak link in the Troupe, and would get quite internally upset if he thought you were also in on the joke

I can't explain why I think this, but I actually see him as one of the most educated members of the group when it comes to any sort of neurodiversity, since I think he's neurodivergent himself, but he probably doesn't catch on immediately that this stems from your own autism

Wouldn't confront you straight away, but when he does, he tries to be as professional as possible about it

Cue a string of quiet apologies when you explain yourself

Quickly tries to explain himself to you, and you probably bond over how annoying it can be to have stimming misunderstood

Tries his best to let you know from then on that any symptoms you need to express are accepted around him, since he knows that you accept him as well

I do HC that Bubba Sawyer is pansexual and genderfluid! And they use she/they/he pronouns!! But he doesn’t really like. Think much about their pansexuality? Mostly because she doesn’t think that she’ll ever meet someone who will love her (all of her) so why does it matter? yes that is sad and YES I am definitely writing x readers where that is addressed bc. I love him. He deserves much love. I also HC that Bubba is autistic (yes this is blatant projection) and that she has a lot of physical/vocal stims! Like they will flap their hands and do the fluttery hand thing when excited or nervous and are almost always tapping!! Whether it’s her fingers or her feet, she taps bc she likes the repetitive noise.

personally I also HC that Brahms Heelshire is somewhere on the autism spectrum, again mostly due to me looking at him and going “ahaha, I do that!” But his need for a strict schedule to be followed and for there to be no changes to routine (or any guests, which would be Factors Outside of his Control and therefore Not Good) resonate with me a lot. I think that he thinks he’s straight, considering he’s implied to have only had lady nannies, but he’s… Not! One of these days I’ll actually publish some of my male reader stuff and y’all will see more of what I mean. I imagine he’s cis, but eventually very gender indifferent if that makes sense? I know there’s a better term for it I’m just drawing a blank at the moment. I know Louisiana men, and he is a repressed bisexual who firmly believes that he just “can appreciate the male form” or something like that. probably relates to Dean Winchester from Supernatural since the movie came out around the time the show began. I also think that deep down, he’s got some really bad issues with anxiety. And like. Bad claustrophobia. I have Many Thoughts on the Sinclair’s childhood after their parents passed, which will get revealed eventually, but it. Wasn’t good! Not for Bo, at least. Lester Sinclair might not know what it means to be pansexual (because hey, that movie is set in Louisiana in 2005 and you just didn’t really know about that kinda stuff Back Then) but he is a giant pan man. Gender does not factor into his attraction to someone! He really just sort of assumed for most of this life that that’s how everyone felt! But when he got reunited with his brothers and started talking to Bo about this guy down at the gas station he was nursing a crush on, Bo let him know Real Quick that he needed to keep that shit on the Down Low if he didn’t want to get his ass whipped. not that Bo would hurt him! he’s just. Vincent… Vincent Sinclair gives me unlabeled vibes. He is an Artist, first and foremost, then a brother second, and that’s all he is. I think he falls in line with Bubba, in that he definitely isn’t straight but doesn’t really think about it since he knows he’ll never get a partner anyway. and while Bo is down for one night stands and quickies with strangers, Vincent Is Not. He just gives me the vibe that he’d need a lot of time to get emotionally connected to someone before he could become attracted to them romantically/sexually. And it probably doesn’t help that like, anyone who is remotely nice to him would confuse him. Is this a trick??? Is this another prank?? What’s happening. Why are you being nice. Vincent is confused. one day I’ll write some x reader stuff that’ll expand on this, or maybe just a Vincent solo thing where I pick apart his brain.

in my head to account for how she starts acting less obviously autistic after she gets back from pylea, i think she became good at masking before pylea, and then all the stress and trauma caused her to care less about masking for obvious reasons. why mask your autistic symptoms when you’re living alone in a cave for five years in a world where everyone is trying to capture and kill you, and you’re developing ptsd because of it? and then when she gets back home and feels safe and comfortable again, she slowly starts masking again. (though in my personal canon she doesn’t have to hide her autistic traits so much.)

Not well. You see, Edward Nygma is a bit of a bastard in that he is a villain and he's a condescending, narcissist genius. So after a lot of him flirting with her and the like and she started catching feelings, she wasn't happy about it at first.

Is it just a game to him? Is it all going to blow up in her face? But once she starts realizing her he's actually interested and not just messing with her, oh she pines hard. Should they be together? No, of course not but...

She pictures him kissing her hand again as on their first meeting. Laughing at her jokes. Being close and vulnerable. Other things that are too dirty for this blog.

His "gifts" of puzzles and gadgets end up going back and forth through her hands. Thinking of the work he put into it. It makes her face flush.

16. How have your S/Is habits changed since they got together with your F/O? What about your F/Os habits? Any new ones they picked up from/because of each other or old ones they quit for each other?

Belle actually got out of self depreciating comments and jokes about herself in their relationship. He discouraged them and would catch her so many times, it broke the habit. Edward used to smoke every once in a while while working. When he realized she didn't really want to kiss him or be around his space after smoking, he ended up quitting. Mostly. He still smokes one on a blue moon when he's really stressed or cooped up in Arkham.

A lot of what they picked up from one another are vocal mannerisms. Certain turns of phrase. Her words become just a tad sharper and his... softer, when they need to be. She also ended up encouraging stimming and other healthy self soothing/coping mechanisms for him.

Penguin:

So this is where they actually differ a lot. Penguin, due to being treated like a monster because of his short stature and slight physical deformities (depending upon which vers), doesn't really dress up as such.

Belle, however, LOVES Halloween and cosplay and having fun. Loves being spooky and sfx. So imagine this super well dressed man next to a bloodied up horror show. If she offered to do his makeup and help find a fun matching costume, he'd dress up with her. But mostly he's happy to watch her have fun and, if it's a cute or more risqué costume, ogle her just a tad.

OHHHHHHHHHH BUDDY, YOU ARE OPENING YOURSELF TO A WHOLE NEW CAN'O'BEANS HERE

OKAY SO FIRST OF ALL-

(everything else under the cut because there is a L O T )

Butler's human form is predominant(which unfortunately means he does not have a tail :(), but he can make Ender noises/speak Galactic. He's got a bunch of stims and tics, and making the Ender noises is one of them! He often makes them to fill the silence, or in times of high emotion(positive or negative. just imagine a Butler bouncing on his toes while excited Ender chirps keep coming out of his mouth, or he's rambling about something and half of it is layered with Galactic). Following from that, Butler has something that Billiam calls the "monochrome form". If he's under high levels of stress, whatever dark tint of color is in his right side will start spiking into the left side, making his skin darker(and, if he has enough color in his skin from NOT FUCKING OVERWORKING HIMSELF, it can get dark enough to blend into shadows) and spreading from the little black scales on his neck and cheeks and hands(which are already claws, that's why he wears gloves), and if he's really stressed/pissed, little horns are gonna start poking out of his skull and he's gonna be completely gray/black, his teeth are already deadly but they're gonna get sharper and if you look him in the eyes he will s c r e a m and very likely tear you apart if Billiam isn't there to hold him back/calm him down.

Speaking of! Butler very much dislikes eye contact. It makes them extremely uncomfortable and the Ender part is gonna start screaming to attack attack attack and the pupil-slit thing is gonna happen. Unfortunately, he's frozen by the eye contact and cannot move of his own free will, it's all going to be instinct to either get away or attack, if he moves at all. And the moment the eye contact is broken, he starts to calm down and all the screaming in his head starts to dissipate, so he doesn't really get the chance to consciously act on the Ender side's instinct.

NEXT OF ALL, throwing canon out the window and saying BILLIAM AND BUTLER ARE FOUND-FAMILY. The way they acted in the episode is just that, an act. In reality, they actually Care each other Very Very Much and have adopted each other into their respective hybrid groups(i.e Endermen have their hauntings, Piglins have their sounders{that part's not canon to mc but i yoinked it from a fic}). Hubert jokes about how Billiam accidentally adopted Bu as his son, but both Bu and Bi deny this. Hubert also got Liaria and James in on the joke and now these two are being constantly triple-teamed.

ON THAT NOTE Liaria and James know about the Egg. It happened at the tail end of Bu's first masquerade when they started accusing Billiam of committing all the murders, and Bu kind of panicked and outed himself as the killer, he pulled out the knife and everything. Billiam admitted that he knew about this, and showed them the Egg as explanation. Now Liaria and James willingly give up their bought lives to the Egg on the regular(we might get into the lives thing later{it was also something i yoinked from a fic, and then I gave it more explanation}) to keep Billiam and his family alive, but they're not all that affected by it due to not even being near it half the time.

AND ON THAT NOTE, let's talk about Butler's relationship with the Egg! Bad. It's bad. Absolutely terrible, the two despise each other immensely. I like to say they're the closest thing to caliginous that a teenaged hybrid that lived off spite and an ancient crimson demon can be. The Egg's hurt Bu a lot, and honestly that's part of the reason his contempt and fear for it is so high. But that's also part of the reason why Billiam was pulled out of its influence despite living right above it. Because he cares for Bu, a literal child that's suffered severe mental and physical trauma at the hands(well, vines) of the Egg. Honestly? Billiam wouldn't be the way he is now if he didn't have to take trips to the Nether. Short explanation, too much time away from their home realm gets hybrids really really sick. So, about a few months or so after Bu arrived, he had to yeet back there for a week and just told Butler and Hubert to take care of the mansion. And you know what Hubert did, that bitch? He took advantage of both Billiam's absence and Butler's skill and pampered himself while throwing the entire load onto the child. And then like halfway through the week, he got the idea to introduce said child to the Egg, who before then has had no idea it ever existed aside from the crimson red aura around the mansion(it's a whole thing about Endermen and magic but again, another thing I might get into later). He hadn't even attended a party before then. So, yeah, Hubert just left him down in one of the old cells for three days. Didn't even check on him, that bitch. And then when Billiam game back, suffice to say he was PISSED. He may be a rich bastard who causes murders biweekly, but even he has standards, and hurting a damn 7-8 year old child that bad was not one of them. he can't be held responsible for child labor, bu followed him home by his own choice. again, another whole backstory thing

Bu's genderfluid! He usually switches between he/him and they/them, and the direction he nods is a little indicator of which one(up for gender, down for no), but sometimes he uses she/her. Adding on that, due to Weird Enderman Genetics, he can manipulate his hair to grow real fast and likes to experiment with it in the mornings for Maximum Gender Euphoria This means that one day his hair could be barely touching his neck, and the next it's all the way down to his waist. It's a fun little anomaly and sometimes Billiam likes to play with it when it gets longer :3 travelling on the lgbt train, Bu is also ace/aro! This doesn't have much impact story-wise(usually), but it's just a fun little tidbit :3 On other, more Ender notes, he has pretty much all the traits an Enderman does, even if he looks fully human aside from being 6 inches taller than Sir Billiam himself. With the eye-contact thing, I've got a headcanon that Endermen can kind of read minds to an extent if they look into another entity's eyes, but it gets loud and borderline painful if anything but another Enderman does the same. Meanwhile, Bu's about the perfect mix of an Enderman and a Human(later called Players and Villagers depending on their capabilities) to be able to take at least a few seconds of eye contact. He can also teleport! To about the same extent as Endermen, if not a little less. Unfortunately, spending too much time in the void between teleportations(i.e a few hours for him, though an hour in the void is a minute in reality. It's why teleporting happens in the blink of an eye to anyone but the user) has some adverse effects. Bu's either glitched, gotten some sort of void-sickness like a flu but worse, and/or lost large chunks of memory each of the separate times he stuck himself in there for too long. Pure-blooded Endermen have a longer tolerance, but even they can succumb to the void with enough time.

Bu's also hurt by water, and the first time Billiam really figured this out is when he dragged him to the roof because it was raining and for some reason, Bi really likes the rain. Bu, on the other hand, was hospitalized for a day once Billiam actually realized, "oh, he's burning" Unfortunately, Bu can still produce tears, so he's got some scars on his cheeks and hands from those, Luckily, though! Billiam got him some gloves and a facemask reminiscent of cc!Ranboo to hide those scars because bu's. really self-conscious about them :,D

But also he's got TOE BEANS,

[ahem] So Endermen are basically giant block-holding teleporting cats and no one can convince me very much otherwise. So on the one hand, they have giant hands shaped for holding blocks. On the other hand, T O E B E A N S

So Bu's got beans on the pads of his fingers and feet(which also end in claws with a black gradient because Peak Character Design <3). Billiam likes to hold his hands on the rare occasion he doesn't wear his gloves because mans likes to stim with those toe beans. Meanwhile Billiam himself has nicely-textured hands because of his Piglin hooves and Bu also likes to stim with them, so just. them holding each others hands for mutual stimmage

Bu stims!! He flaps his hands and does thing really rapidly and harshly when he's really high-strung, which doesn't happen often, at least in front of people. Boy's got anxiety so he's had his fair share of panic attacks :,D he just knows how to disguise them so people don't see, but Billiam knows the signs at this point. But he also has a lot of vocal stims/tics, mainly lots of Enderman noises, some popping and a little screechy thing here and there. Sometimes he picks up a sound and then repeats it a whole bunch because it feels nice on the tongue :] there's also these poofs of particles that happen when he's happy, they look like mini purple fireworks and they're like an expulsion of magic, he can feel when they happen and it feels nice :]

[ahemhemhem] So y'know how Butler's an Ender-hybrid? His hands and feet reflect that(along with the ears, the eyes, the height, the abilities, but we're talking about about the hands here). Part of why he keeps those gloves on almost 24/7 is to dull his claws, which are not so much an intentional danger to others rather than an unintentional danger to himself. He's got tics and stims and is very neurodivergent and has anxiety(me projecting? noooo /hj), so he gets very nervous very easily. And one of his nervous habits rather than wringing his hands, fidgeting, and (if really bad)a heightened amount of tics, he tends to scratch at his arms. His claws can tear through the fabric easily, and more than one or two suits have been sent back to the tailors for repairs to the sleeves. However, having both padded sleeves and padded gloves nullifies that, so he always wears them special-made. If he didn't have that habit, he likely wouldn't have the gloves on as often as he does.

Me GHDSFGSHFGS THAT IS A GREAT IDEA Butler insists he can do everything himself, nothing's different about the routine, and then he has a mental breakdown when he tries to make food without anyone else in the kitchen- Cause usually Hubert's there, even if he's making something else. There's at least another presence, and that's the sort of thing that's calming for Bu. But Hubert's off setting up the table for lunch/dinner or something and Butler makes One minor slip-up and spirals from there until he's struggling even handling spice mixing The same thing happened with cookies one time, and both times Hubert found him borderline unable to function because he panicked too much and helped him out of it.

Friend Butler is just curled up in the kitchen, trying to have a quiet panic attack because he can't cause the others any more trouble than he already is, and Hubert is very quietly upset about helping him because he was doing so good at avoiding Bu but here he is again being the only thing that's letting this kid breathe

Me Absolutely

Friend Do you think Bu passes out on him? Like Hubert (probably reluctantly) gives Butler a hug cause those help, and Bu was just supposed to stay there until he felt better, but panic attacks are exhausting and he fell asleep at some point-

Me Oh my gods he would though, especially with the amount of sleep he gets He'd have to try so hard to even stay conscious, much less do things in the manner he usually does, and Hubert just quietly tells him that it's okay to sleep; he'll take care of everything. Hu never forgets that of course Bu's always in danger around him - he has fleeting thoughts and quite often knows how to act on them - but he stands up holding an exhausted child and takes him to his room so he can rest. Butler may want him to stay; Endermen usually want someone around when sleeping. It's the security of having someone watch for nightmares, but Hubert doesn't stay. He has to go back to the kitchen and finish that meal Bu was making. But if he's still asleep by the time Hu's done with everything, he might linger outside his door, listening in for anything bad.

Also, one last thing: Billiam gives Butler a bunch of gold things(including the masquerade mask) because that's what Piglins do with their sounders, they cover them in gold to show they care. And after Bu finding out the reason why Billiam's been handing off a bunch of gold things to him he does not cry, because that would hurt his face, but he does feel quite a lot of things that make him want to because holy shit Billiam feels the same

Some of my roguefort/walnut/etc headcanons because I love to bore my followers 😌 eat up everyboyd

Walnut has autism/adhd, and her special interest involves detective novels and related media, which is why she picked up being a detective. This is also why she refers to clues as if they were people, referring to them as "doing something" or "going to". Autism/adhd is also why walnut hates being treated differently than adults/like a child

roguefort also has autism/adhd and vocal stims, which is why they are shown to consistently speak in a sing-song voice

Roguefort is super chatty but it comes out the most with their persona, regular old them is more shy, but will instantly talk your ear off if you start talking to them first (tho they may strike up convo with you first). Charm and charisma just flow out of them ALL NATURAL

Roguefort is more feminine, as in they love wearing makeup and doing hair. They take walnut and chestnut clothes shopping all the time, walnut isn't that interested but likes being able to buy a bunch of books while at the mall and doesn't mind the suits and other clothes she gets from roguefort. Chestnut eats it up though and loves picking out clothes and makeup with them.

as stated b4, roguefort loves doing hair, and can talk for hours about grown up old people stuff with doing walnuts. They like doing chestnut's too! Walnut doesn't like make-up so they don't make her wear any but chestnut is a willing participant and doesn't mind being roguefort's makeup canvas basically lol

Roguefort and cheesecake both like things like fashion and makeup, so that is how they spend a lot of their time together: going to the mall, chatting, picking out clothes, then going home and doing each others hair and makeup

Walnut and chestnut are siblings!

Walnut is a baby butch 😌 and much prefers wearing suits and other casual clothes, but doesn't care about hair length. Chestnut likes wearing dresses but doesn't mind other options

Walnut is like 9-11 years old and chestnut is 7-9. Roguefort is around 30-35 and cheesecake is the same. The wonders anti aging products will do for you

Roguefort really enjoys cooking and it's one of their old people hobbies. They also take really good care of their hair, skin and home

Roguefort is French Asian, and has a French accent

Roguefort really loves affection, whether it be familial or romantic. Chestnut loves affection from their ren too but affection from anyone makes walnut embarrassed because she's very hashtag grown up

Ok so now for the meat of my headcanons: walnut and chestnut were both homeless, and both of their respective hobbies/jobs are their ways to make ends meet. The cookie world isn't too demanding so this is enough to make them simply SURVIVE. Walnut is more careful and precise so this is why chestnut has worn down clothing and walnut doesn't, his job is more physically demanding than hers. Walnut met roguefort through her job, of course she'd be interested in a well-known, mysterious master thief and would want to be the one to apprehend them, as it would probably pay well enough to help her and chestnut! Roguefort was delighted by her because I imagine they love children :-) so it works out 

And eventually after keeping their eye on her well enough, they find out about her brother, and how they live, and decide to take matters into their own hands and try and help them. Chestnut and walnut don't live at some sort of shelter though, so adoption is very easy as in just find them. Chestnut is delighted by this and walnut is fine with it but being how she's shown to be pretty skeptical at times, she keeps her guard up

Somehow all the small flags don't line up to her: the long blonde hair, where has she seen THAT before? The sing-song voice they put on often, it sounds familiar but she can't place her finger on it, the golden bird cane, such a peculiar thing to keep around (I imagine roguefort wouldn't carry this around in their civilian wear, but it would be easy to see it sitting in one of those umbrella stands). It all seems familiar but she can't seem to piece it together. She eventually warms up to Roguefort (probably called something like blue cheese cookie, because if they went by roguefort in their disguise they'd get caught, as everyone is aware of this name being used for their thievery lol stupid) and all 3 of them form a very nice bond

So like. I feel like Mitzi is a Good Amount younger than the rest of the band like she was in highschool when she joined, the rest of em were all Adults™ and she was a little bit nervous about it because...... ADULTS™

She was just lookin for a place to get her singing voice out there, because ya girl REALLY wanted to perform, and showbiz happened to have a slot open, but she did not expect all of the members to be older than her (although looking back, she realized she probably should have expected that)

It was intimidating at first but Billy Bob and Fatz were just the absolute sweetest and they introduced her properly to the rest of the band because she was like "oh I barely talk to them because I get nervous :(" and the resident dads p much said "aight we can do all the talking for you then, how about that?" And badabing badaboom she's now attached to these two and like honestly who isn't or maybe that's just me but ANYWAYS I feel like the band would become a second home/safe space for her

And I find the concept of Billy Bob being Very Much Straight And Ignorant but trying his hardest to be a good ally SO funny like if someone came out to him he'd probably be like "oh!! I don't understand why you would choose that lifestyle but I respect you!!" not realizing how incredibly stupid he sounds sjkrjh like I don't think he can very easily wrap his head around how people are just. not cishet. so he's like "OH then it must be a choice, right? like you can choose to be gay but you're born straight. Fatz is pretty similar, straight ally and a lil confused but he's got the spirit, you know? He still least knows being gay (as well as,,, m o s t sexualities that aren't straight, although some he doesn't get/know about at all) isn't a choice but he hasn't quite grasped that being trans is also not a choice. He will respect your pronouns to hell and back but by god he doesn't get it,,, he's trying though and he feels very accomplished in himself that he's starting to get the hang of using they/them even though he slips up a lot

The rest of the band encourages the HELL out of these two because they're. Trying their best and making an honest effort which is more than a pretty good chunk of people would give

Rolfe, Earl, and Dook are the reasons Billy Bob and Fatz are trying so hard to understand it lmao

Rolfe took it upon himself to hang up a MASSIVE gay pride flag backstage, being the flaming homosexual that he is, and the rest of the squad quickly realized "oh he's GAY gay he wasn't kidding" because at first they literally thought he was joking as he was actually just being openly and obnoxiously a raging mlm (and like I mean no shade to him this isn't me tryna to make fun of it because my dumb sapphic ass almost crashed my car once because I saw a pretty girl walk down the street. Dook is a non-binary ICON he's a demiboy and goes by both he/him and they/them and probably would have a bunch of pride pins I think,,, I'm not really sure of his sexuality though!! honestly he kinda gives me bisexual vibes but Who Knows . Not me. He has a HELL of a time trying to explain his gender to the rest of the band (except for Rolfe because like. He's a part of the community so he knows) and basically he was met with "so you're just a dude but ✨spicy✨?" and it was like, "no, but I have no idea how to explain it in a way that will make sense to you, so. yes?" And that explanation seemed to suffice for most of them

Mitzi went in knowing NOTHING about what being non-binary was so she asked a l o t of questions about it, which Dook just kinda dealt with answering (he's heard most of it before, and it gets tiring after a while. if you're nb or trans or honestly any part of LGBTQ+ you know what I mean) but he thought it was really sweet of her to be so determined to learn about it and eventually she did get a grasp on it ish, so she was able to understand why it wasn't just ✨spicy male✨ (the conversation pretty much went "well if i was just male, don't you think I would label myself that way instead?" "....oH TRUE!!!") and she ended up a VERY passionate ally, and she'll ask occasionally about how to be better at it, bein a queen as she is 👉👉 also definitely started questioning her sexuality after a while and just went with "maybe bicurious" and Rolfe, Dook, and Earl were all like "ONE OF US, ONE OF US"

Earl has never once spoken about his sexuality in his life, because 1. He's very aware that's an awkward conversation to have with a puppet, and 2. He's aroace anyways, which is basically what people assume even if they don't realize it just for their own peace of mind, because seriously, puppets and any identity that ISN'T aroace creates a really uncomfortable mental image for... Most people, pretty much. So it's not like he ever needed to say anything about it, which is convenient for him because he wouldn't want to say anything either way. not worth the risk of embarrassing himself and making everyone feel awkward

(side note ish though Rolfe 100% came out to Earl first and was met with "I already knew that but okay." Rolfe was mildly offended)

And spEAKING OF EARL he's VERY much sentient but he can't say he's particularly enthusiastic about it because Rolfe has to carry him around everywhere

He can move on his own but it's limited and generally annoying to maneuver around with his tiny body so he just says screw it half the time and stays on Rolfe's arm or hitch a ride on Random Object, but like... Yeah, the majority of the time Rolfe just has to deal with only having one arm available and a puppet directly next to him making fun of him at every possible chance

They high-key have chaotic and unorganized college roommate vibes (like they're actually roommates because... Where tf is Earl supposed to go?? So Rolfe took him in) and idk if this is really like a part of my headcannons or if I just think it's funny so I keep entertaining the idea of it but I think it would be Fantastic if Rolfe had no idea how to cook but Earl somehow did so this idiot is trying to take instructions from a puppet, who can't physically show him what to do, and it's like Hell's Kitchen live featuring a furry and a sentient stuffed animal

I don't know how or why I thought up of this but I cannot possibly imagine him any other way now-- he's autistic and space is his Big Huge special interest, and if you ever ask him about it you have to be prepared to get infodumped or possibly even shown a PowerPoint presentation, because GOD he loves space!!! He wants everyone to know all about it!! He knows not everyone thinks it's as cool as he does so he tries to keep his mouth shut but when someone asks about it he can't help himself and will infodump a LOT, also haha drumming stims go brrrr, playing the drums isn't really a stim but he likes to just take his drumsticks and whack em around in the air and get that good ol Wavy Arm Action (wavy arms is best stim change my mind you can't it's GOOD)

Also i bbbbelieve earlier I reposted somethin about someone else headcannoning that he has echolalia, which I don't really know enough about to say anything on it?? But even if he doesn't have echolalia he'd probably repeat phrases over and over until he gets tired of them (which is,,, something I do lmao, it's either memes I get stuck in my head or things I've heard from various medias I like the inflections in (like one tiktokker I saw was talking about their tourettes and their vocal tics and one of them was "uh oh! Hey! I've noticed that you do these "actor interpretations" for the actors of Dear Evan Hansen. They are all really good interpretations and I wanted to ask if you could possibly do one for all of the Evan actors that you have seen up to this point. I know that I am asking a lot out of you, but I would be very appreciative! Your reviews are so in-depth and I love reading them all!

Just want to say, this ask absolutely made my day! Thank you! I’d be more than happy to do more of these. They’re a lot of fun for me :D This one is going to be more specifically about the different actors’ techniques to convey Evan’s personality, but if you want one that’s more about Evan as a character, feel free to ask! 

Michael Lee Brown - So MLB was the first Evan I ever saw, and he will probably always be my favorite. The biggest thing that stands out with his interpretation vs most of the others is that MLB’s Evan is unquestionably autistic. All the Evans seem to have a nervous tic, but with him, it very clearly crosses into stimming. Constantly moving his hands, toying with his backpack strings or his tie or the cast. Seeking sensory input all the time. Very obviously making his worst decisions when people are yelling, ie. sensory overload. Those are just a few examples out of many, but I think you get the point. I’ve made lots of posts before breaking down why Evan is a better character if he’s on the spectrum, and I truly believe making that canon is the best way to go. What’s also really nice about MLB is that he has faith in people liking him. Some other actors try way too hard to be likable, in fear that Evan’s choices will make the audience hate him. MLB knows that if he clearly establishes Evan as a good but flawed person early on, then by Act 2, he can kind of be a jerk and not lose the audience’s support. And he is a jerk, especially towards Jared, and that makes for a very interesting show. If Evan is always a victim, then it’s just two and a half hours of the world beating up on a kid with anxiety. If Evan is clearly the cause of most of his own problems, especially in Act 2, it becomes so much more compelling, because there’s suddenly much more depth to both Evan and the people around him. Also, his chemistry with Mallory Bechtel is beyond anything I’ve ever witnessed in an onstage pair. I actually think the Evan/Zoe romance is pretty badly written, but they make it work. They look at each other with this powerful, innocent adoration. It’s the sweetest thing I’ve ever seen.

Colton Ryan - I was lucky enough to see the show almost exactly a week after the first time I saw it. Ben Platt was out for those two weeks, and MLB and Colton went on alternating days. So, the second time, I got Colton, and he made for an entirely different show. Much like Michael, a lot of his Evan comes from the physicality, but in a very different way. MLB’s Evan, up until the orchard scene, always looks like he’s not quite sure how to hold himself, and he usually takes up a lot of space. Colton starts out very intentionally making himself as small as possible. Hunched over, eyes on the floor, arms pulled in or wrapped around himself. He also speaks more timidly and quickly, like he wants to get talking to people over with. Sometimes, he even stutters. His Evan is definitely not on the spectrum, but is the best representation of crippling social anxiety I’ve seen. As the show goes on, he grows more confident and his posture gets better, he becomes more expressive, and he radiates this energy that always comes with newfound confidence. When the truth comes out, though, you physically see him wither, right back to how he was in the beginning, and it’s only then that you realize just how much he’d changed. Another interesting element to his Evan that is entirely out of his control is his appearance. An argument could be made pretty easily that Colton is the most “conventionally attractive” of the Evans. He looks like the kind of kid who’d be really popular in high school, and the fact that he’s not gives a pretty clear indication of just how scared and withdrawn he is. And, it makes his sudden popularity and relationship with Zoe feel a little more empty, but (unfortunately) much more realistic.

Taylor Trensch - Poor Taylor was wildly miscast in this role. It’s not his fault, at all. He just wasn’t a good choice. His voice didn’t fit the music style, and it’s painful listening to the vocal damage between his first and last show. He’s also been out of high school for a long time. Where the others were recent college graduates, Taylor has been out of college and living adult life for so long that he seemed to struggle to convey what it’s like to be a teenager. He always acted either too young or too old, and like I mentioned with MLB, he tried way too hard to make the audience like him. Even if it made the other characters’ reactions make no sense, he constantly made Evan the oblivious good guy who smiled his way through every poor decision and genuinely adored his mom and saw Jared as his best friend and put all his energy into the Connor Project. Everyone’s sudden anger at him in Good For You seems out of left field, and there is no satisfaction when his mom apologizes, because it feels like it doesn’t fit. He clearly tried his best, and he seems like an incredibly kind person, but Evan Hansen just wasn’t the right role for him.

Roman Banks - God, I love Roman, and I love everything that comes with his Evan. There’s something so powerful about the Connor Project being entirely made up of black kids, after the original version of the show was so overpoweringly white. As for his performance, he seems to have taken a lot of cues from Ben and MLB, in his physicality and his line delivery, but he did definitely add his own spin on things. His Evan is so sweet and you just want to hug him, always. He’s quiet and shy, but super friendly. That’s the biggest change between MLB and him. He’s a lot nicer and has far less of an edge. But why does it work with him, but not with Taylor?  Well, instead of being cheerful and friendly because that’s just how he is, Roman’s Evan is clearly terrified of not being perceived as nice. It’s essentially a coping mechanism. If he’s nice to everyone, he won’t get hurt. So he feels like he has to be sweet all the time, and when it becomes impossible, he gets frustrated. When he fights with his mom, he’s upset because she’s not getting it, but he’s also not trying to help her get it. I think he works very hard to be so kind to people and feels put-out when it seems like others aren’t putting that effort in. He’s naïve and definitely doesn’t understand others as well as he thinks he does. Something about him, more than any of the others I’ve seen, genuinely feels like a teenager. And this was his debut performance. I would love to see him become the full-time Evan or the alternate after MLB is gone, so he could have a chance to really grow and evolve, because if he was already that good, I can’t even imagine how amazing he could become.

This has been on my mind a lot of late and I am going to talk about it, even though it's hard for me to do so. Maybe, because it's hard for me to do so. I also feel a need to request that people don't use this as a reason to change their opinion of me, or as a reason to change the way that they interact with me. I don't think that that would happen because my friends are good people, but... trauma is trauma is trauma is trauma. *long, drawn out, sigh*

Warning for ablest language, directed at myself. I find it useful to talk about the way I related, am relating, and am working towards relating with my disabilities. I experience internalized ableism because I live in an ablest society, and because of trauma, so it colours the way I look at myself. I am working on it. I am working on it. I am working on it. And I am growing.

I have a diagnosis for something that I wish I could talk more freely about. That it stopped feeling like a weight that I'm choking on.

But when it makes sense, when it's relatable, when it is a clarifying statement or a way to ask for help, I don't say anything. I go quiet. I freeze up.

Something, that was pointed out to me later in life was - /why/ was I bullied? Why was I targeted? I often fall back on - people called me weird. I have always been weird, sinse I was little. I had weird behaviours, weird noises, weird clothes, weird everything. I didn't understand social cues and patterns of speech and had no volume control. I was weird.

But why? What did that even mean?

I struggled in school. I struggled with people. I struggled with friendships. I remember sitting on the bus with my best friend and I asked her if I could tell her something, and she responded with, "Just don't repeat it three times." Once, I was excitedly flapping about a movie I had seen, and my friend grabbed my hands and told me to stop being weird. In seventh grade, folks at my school called me bumblebee and laughed because I liked to wear yellow clothes - somebody once pulled down my shorts because I used to wear shorts over pants because I liked the way it felt, and he decided it meant I was "hiding something."

You see: I'm autistic. Or aspergers. Spectrum. Whatever you want to call it.

I always have been, even if people didn't know thats what it was. But people /knew/ something was "wrong" with me. People thought it was weird that I bounced. People thought it was weird that I repeated things. People thought it was weird that I obsessed over certain topics. People thought it was weird that I dressed in certain ways. Teachers got frustrated with me in classes. Took my chair away because I couldn't sit still. I met with teachers/counselors for school outside of class several times; was pulled from class to be tested by some lady in the library. Nothing ever came from it, but people repeatedly noticed that I was different. So I fell through the cracks.

When it finally came up that I am on the spectrum, it was like breathing, for a moment, while I've been choking for years. The ringing from some noises, the panic from intense physical sensations, the love for some sounds, some touches, became concrete. For a while, it felt so, intensely, validating. Most of the people who know I'm autistic know because I told them during that point in my life.

And then the panic came back.

Because I'm still fucking weird. I'm still annoying. I'm still too excited, too loud, too expressive, too disorganized, too /much/: and yet, not /enough/. I just have a name for it, now - autistic and weird.

And the pride I see people take in their autism and asperger diagnoses is the most upsetting thing, because I want that. I want that so fucking badly. But it catches in my throat every time. When it makes sense, I can't say it, when it's relatable I can't voice it; occasionally, I'll choke out a keyword in conversation, like stimming, or special interest, in some vain attempt to say it without saying it. I don't imagine it is easy for the people who take pride in their diagnoses (or maybe it is), but I wish it wasn't so hard for me. I wish I didn't have trauma. I wish people hadn't humiliated me for my lack of social skills. I wish that I hadnt been raised feeling weird and incompetent.

Because... No allistic can ever understand how satisfying it is to learn something new about their special interest. No allistic will ever comprehend how amazing bricks feel in your hands. No allistic will ever understand the way elation feels when youre bouncing and flapping and vocal stimming. No allistic will understand what wearing happy stim clothes is like. Autism touches every part of my life. And I like many of those parts of myself - and I am learning to like the parts that people have made me feel shame for, and made me hate and hide away. I'm learning to choke out words, learning to say, I'm autistic too, learning to not hide my stimming, learning to embrace this part of me. And learning that if people treat me differently because of it, they aren't worth keeping around.

I'm autistic. And I'm weird. And I'm learning how to breathe.

Re: The Autism Spectrum Thing - I also had a weird moment today where like, I just sat and thought about how society viewed me age-wise? 

This is gonna be a lot of blabber (I mean a LOT) I’ve been just - thinking about stuff. 

So, I’m 26.  I have something of a youthful look to me (I imagine when I start showing visible aging indicators I’ll probably look something like a gremlin in a jean jacket - I’m actually okay with that I think).  I dress for comfort for the most part while retaining some style - and when I say comfort I mean mental and physical comfort.  It feels weird to have only my underwear and one layer of clothes on over it.  Things have to feel right or I have a worse day for sure.  This also means I generally stay away from makeup (and have a more even mix of men’s and women’s clothes in my wardrobe) now that I don’t feel as much pressure to present as feminine.  Sidenote - presenting as femme is not a bad thing at all!  This is just a personal style choice (I do occasionally like doing a bright or strong eye-makeup thing just for fun, but it’s usually worn for a very short period of time). 

To go along with that - my actions and behaviors might not actually fit into what is expected for a person my age.  To be clear, this isn’t some garbage fire mindset about “not being like other girls” or other related bullshit.  What I am getting at are things like stims, vocal behaviors, and how society views women who don’t take steps to present as acceptably feminine (Another sidenote - society will also expect women to present as feminine but then will often mock it at the same time, which is also bs!). 

But I do think there can be some sort of... Infantilizing of people who do not fit into certain aspects of presentation that is expected of their gender?  Or don’t express themselves in a way that is expected socially?  It’s really hard to quantify or explain but I know I’m not the first one to talk about this.  I have retained a lot of the same problems I had when I was younger.  The tendency to not know exactly when to start or stop talking in a conversation (got a lot better at it) - the tendency to not regulate volume as much.  The much-more-than occasional misfire of words in even simple sentences if I am even moderately emotional and Am Not Focused Enough.  I have some visible stims.  Trouble turning thoughts into words and then following through with an explanation (I know that’s a general problem for people but it’s hard not to notice when your coworkers are clearly better at it than you).

And the age thing - this isn’t necessarily a knock at anyone who’s ever misinterpreted me as much younger than I am - like I get it.  You can’t just opt out of society.  And hey, if when I’m at 50 people are still literally interpreting me as a decade younger than I actually am I mean, fuck yeah.  I want to be hardy and strong and keep my fire burning, so to speak.  To be honest most of the time I’m fine with it.  Let’s keep it going till I’m 100.  Shit.   

I just notice that - I mean I don’t communicate a lot of my ideas on things like politics and whatnot very well - in fact it’s hard for me to figure out where I actually stand with people?  Hell, half of my anxiety comes from literally not being able to interpret how people really reacted to what I said (I’m actually really good at reading expressions - but that’s also because I subconsciously view it like a puzzle and will often announce my analysis of what someone’s face looks like out loud to them in the middle of the conversation ‘that expression makes me think that you’re either constipated or really not happy with something I just said’ and feel very happy when I’m correct, though not everyone is comfortable with my attempts to turn that into humor, whoops).  I mean I’ve gotten good at interpreting people in a lot of situations - I like puzzles, and once you have the pieces logged into your memory, it can be fun/easy to interpret said uh, people puzzles. 

I’m sure I’m not doing as bad as I think I am (or I am, it can be hard to gauge the distance between myself and my coworkers), but it’s just... I don’t think it’s an issue that I should just trash or not care about.  Because when you’re interpreted as “not one of the adults”, there is always the possibility of not being taken seriously in your field!  A field that is already vastly dominated by white dudes!  And people without mental illnesses! 

And what the hell is the point of being a scientist if nobody listens to you ever at all?  I’ve got a job to do.  I’m not going to not try to do it.  Sidenote - Earth scientists are a fairly talky bunch.  Problems are often solved together.  If you can’t get a word in edgewise because people don’t see you as on the same playing field as them, well, you see why that’s a problem.  And sometimes it... Does feel like that’s going on.  

Thing that sort of brought this up again for me (it was not really unpleasant at all, it just reminded me of work and stuff) - Waitress at the restaurant I was at with my folks  - I’m almost positive that she clocked me as younger than I actually was (high school?).  Don’t blame her at all.  I’m a little blabbermouth at lunch going on about the new season of Samurai Jack to my dad and making corny jokes, like. She seemed legitimately nice though!  This wasn’t something that upset me at all.  I had a good time.  This was a person who called me “Sweetheart” unironically when I thanked her for food or whatnot (she was also quite cute I think, though I had to go and tell myself ‘this woman is doing her job which she is expected to perform, it would be rude of me to assume in any way that this woman might actually be flirting with me’). 

Final sidenote - there are other ways in which society interprets your age for the better/worse.  I won’t go into it at this point (others can and have talked about it better than I can, especially as a white person), but suffice to say there are plenty of ways in which I have privilege in that area - “othering” in any way (esp. racism) definitely adds to how people are perceived and judged and ultimately how they’re treated (i.e. society/legal system treating black children/teenagers like they’re adults and judging them as such, while treating say, college age white adults as “kids who made a mistake” when they commit crimes, etc).  At the end of the day, people still treat me fairly respectfully (for the most part), I know the same is not true of everyone else.

○ Engages in self-stimulating behavior to soothe, cope with sensory input, and/or express emotion, known as “stimming” by autistic community

○ Visual stimming includes watching moving objects such as water, leaves, or cars, and waving or fluttering fingers in front of eyes

○ Physical stimming includes spinning, jumping, waving arms, flapping hands, swinging, waving or fluttering fingers, flicking or rubbing fingernails, rubbing hands against a surface or texture, bouncing legs, rocking, chewing or sucking on objects, fidgeting with toys, and petting/stroking/twirling hair

○ Vocal stimming includes shrieking, laughing, singing, humming, repeating sounds or words (echolalia), and clicking tongue

○ Auditory stimming includes listening to music, blocking out noise, and listening to sounds

○ Prefers comfortable clothes over stylish clothes, may have a favorite shirt or outfit, may cut tags off of clothes due to sensory issues [Loves fashion but HAS to be comfortable]

○ Has or has symptoms of sensory processing disorder (SPD)  

○ Has a “sixth sense,” notices the presence of people, may dislike standing close to people or standing in front of people

○ Has an odd tone of voice, may speak with an odd inflection, in a monotone voice, with an accent, or too loudly/softly for a situation

Social/Behavioral

○ Difficulty understanding “social rules,” may be unaware of boundaries and personal space

○ Shy and quiet in social situations, may be an introvert

○ Clings to one or two friends, prefers to have a small friend group

○ Prefers to interact with people who are younger or older, little interest in peers of the same age

○ Has trouble keeping up a conversation, whether face-to-face or online, may abandon conversations due to anxiety or boredom

○ As a child, preferred to talk to teachers than peers, may view peers as “boring” or “stupid”

○ Dislikes and avoids eye contact, eyes may wander during conversation

○ Appears rude due to lack of understanding of “social rules,” not making eye contact or using “appropriate” body language, or dominating discussion/reverting discussion back to self. May be blunt and considered “offensive” or “rude”

○ Dislikes “small talk,” prefers to have “intelligent” discussion, talk about self, or talk about a special interest

○ Difficulty understanding social cues such as body language, gestures, tone of voice, and facial expressions, may not be able to read emotion

○ Taught self how to act “properly” in social situations and/or read emotion, may mimic people in real life or on television

○ Conversation and socializing is anxiety-inducing and exhausting, may need a lot of rest and “de-stressing” after socializing

○ Tendency to be bullied, shunned, mocked, teased, or ostracized by peers

○ Tendency to over-share

○ Difficulty knowing when to speak, may interrupt

○ Considered annoying by peers, “unable to take a hint”

○ Sense of humor is “quirky” or “odd,” may not understand typical humor used by peers

○ Excess apologizing [THIS THIS THIS]

○ Difficulty knowing when a mistake has been made, may not apologize

Imagination/Empathy:

○ Escapes through imagination, may have maladaptive daydreaming disorder (MDD)

○ Intense, overwhelming emotions

○ Hyper- or hypoempathetic

○ Highly imaginative and creative

○ May have had imaginary friends as a child

○ Easily distracted, gets “lost in thoughts”

○ Fantasy brings comfort and relief

○ Prefers to play with toys in an “unusual” manner, may spend time setting up scenes with toys without acting out a scene, may line up or organize toys, etc.

○ Prefers fantasy over reality (depends on verse)
